These are mostly timeline questions but here goes:

*Issue One and Two

1. In the psychic phenomena triggered by the G-Gnome, the Joker fights the Justice League. How many years ago did this event take place?

*Issue Three

2. The first timestamp in Issue Three was "Infinity Island July 8, 22:14 EDT." Should it have been "ECT" like in the episode "Infiltrator"?

*Issue Four

3. In the last page of the story, Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad were watching a report on Selena Gonzalez. Was the reporter Cat Grant?

*Issue Five

Wally West states "in the 40s and 50s, Jay Garrick is the Flash"

4. What year did Jay Garrick start as the Flash?

5. What year did Jay Garrick retire from being the Flash in the 1950s?

6. How many years ago did Jay Garrick and Barry Allen first meet?

7. How many years has Barry Allen been the Flash?

*Issue Six

8. Is Dick Grayson's deceased aunt the Earth-16 version of Harriet Cooper, Grayson's aunt from the 60s Batman comics and TV show?

9. When Miss Martian tells her story, she mentions Martian Manhunter held a competition to determine his partner. When did this happen?

10. At the end of the issue, Dr. Desmond has Superboy moved into a new containment pod. How many weeks old was Superboy at this time?

*Issue Seven

11. Was that a Richard Dragon poster at Artemis' side of the bedroom?

*Downtime

12. How many millennia was the giant creature frozen?

Greg responds...

1. Four years ago.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

4. 1940.

5. Jay didn't officially announce his retirement until Barry debuted as Flash. But Jay's been in various stages of semi-retirement since 1951.

6. About a year before Barry became the Flash.

7. Ten.

8. No.

9. NO COMMENT.

10. Don't know exactly.

11. Not sure. Maybe. Ask Chris.

12. NO COMMENT.

1. Why did sportsmaster told aqualad about a mole?

2. Why didn't superboy recognized Snapper Carr?

3. Does Snapper Carr have any superpowers?

4. Does Snapper Carr lives in Rhode Island?

5. Can any of the flashes with or without special equiqment run fast enough to travel through time?

6. Has Sinestro betrayed the Green Lantern Corps yet?

7. Was Jim Corrigan the host of the Spectre and is he still the Spectre's host?

8. Who are the people that knows batman secret identity?

9. What are Superman's powers on Earth 16?

10. Why is Superboy and Miss Martian going to school?

Greg responds...

1. Aqualad's wondering the same thing.

2. In his vision, Snapper was a teenager. Now, Lucas Carr is an adult. Superboy just didn't make the connection.

3. No. Do you?

4. Yes.

5. No.

6. No comment.

7. No comment.

8. Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, Dick Grayson, Clark Kent, Princess Diana, Ra's al Ghul and perhaps a small handful of others that I don't feel like revealing right now.

9. Flight, Strength, enhanced Invulnerability, Heat Vision, telescopic vision, microscopic vision, X-Ray vision, infrared vision, super hearing, enhanced speed. That's pretty much it. No super-breath. No super-hypnosis.

10. Teenagers (of their biological age) have to go to school, and their guardians feel its healthy for them to socialize with real kids and learn the same subjects.

Hi Greg I was wondering how many comic book tie ins of YJ do you plan on writing? Do you have a set number or are you going to keep writing issues for as long as you can?

Greg responds...

I'll keep going as long as they'll let me. Typically, companies run out of interest before I do.

sorry, after watching "Targets" it reminded me of a few other questions I have.
1 does Bruce commute from Gotham to Metropolis every day or was there a specific reason he was hanging out there in "schooled"?
2 another city question, Do Philadelphia and New York exist on Earth 16 or have Metropolis & Gotham replaced them?
3 is Mercy a cyborg or an android.

Greg responds...

1. He has offices all over the world. His primary office is, of course, in Gotham. So, no, no commuting. And I'm sure there was a specific reason he was in Metropolis that day.

2. All four cities you named exist. We've seen Gotham (101), Metropolis (105) and Philadelphia (106) already. New York will also appear this season.

3. ASKED AND ANSWERED... but since it's one-word: CYBORG.

Mr. Weismen, I want to first thank you for creating quality programming that I grew up with and for creating Elisa, a strong female figure that matched my own background in terms of race.

1.Would you say that Aqualad is a younger non gargoyle version of Goliath in terms of personality?

2.You revealed Flash’s, Batman’s and Superman’s ages, would it be okay to ask how old is Aquaman and Mera?

Thank you for looking over my questions and I wish you all the luck with current and future projects.

Greg responds...

1. Uh... not really.

2. Aquaman is 29; Mera, 27.

Hey Mr. Weisman! First off love Gargoyles and Young Justice, and I have a couple of questions about the latter...
1 How long have Superman and Batman known each other in this world, were they friends before the league?
2 Why doesn't Superboy want to be leader of The Team?
Thank you for reading :)Kenzey

Greg responds...

1. About ten years or so.

1a.

2. Why would he want that responsibility?

First off, I just want to say how wonderful Ask Greg is. It's so nice of you to take time out of your busy schedule working on the show we love to answer fans questions about them. I'm sorry you get so much negative feed back and rude comment, because you don't have to do this, and we are lucky that you are willing.
I have some questions about Young Justice
1. Do all the members of the Justice League know Batman's secret identity. If not, who knows
2.Who were the founding members of the Justice League
3. Do Bruce and Barry know that Dick told Wally his secret I.D. How long has Wally known?
4. How is Roy supporting himself financially, trick arrows are expensive after all, as are trips to Asia and boat rentals.

Greg responds...

1. No. Not going to go down the list here.

2. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman, Martian Manhunter

3. No.

3a. ASKED AND ANSWERED.

4. Inheritance from his parents and a trust that Ollie created before he lost all of his fortune. At this point, I think Roy has more money than Oliver.

DC HERO writes...

Really quick question hope you it doesn't count as a spoiler. 1. Will Aqualad use any kind of modern weaponry? I asked a question like this a few months back after watching the Green Latern trailer. Basically will he use aforementioned weapons or do Atlanteans stick to ancient weapons and sorcery. 2. Didn't plan on this but who do you like more Aquaman or Namor? I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that The Teams reason for forming is practically ecatepec to the reason the outsiders were formed. They were formed by Batman to do covert missions for the League so none of the Leaguers had to damage their publicity or popularity.

Greg responds...

1. He'll mostly stick to his water-bearers. Mostly.

2. I like both characters. Honestly.

Greg Bishansky writes...

Targets

This is a show that, I swear, gets better with each episode. I've been enjoying the Red Arrow character since the first episode, so I really dug this episode. He had a lot of character development, and while I can't see him joining the team yet, I do think the door is open for it.

Sportsmaster and Cheshire both make welcome returns. And Cheshire is a character that has really grown on me. I love the chemistry she has, not just with Red Arrow, but with everyone. Kelly Hu is doing a magnificent job with that character. So are the writers and animators. She just personifies the sexy badass, and I am eager to see more of her.

As for Sportsmaster, well, I still don't know too much about him. But I am told he is a D-List villain in the comics who is really shining in this series. He's intimidating, badass, and I guess I'm eager to see more of him to. And while we're talking about villains, for the first time in this series, two of the DC Universe's A-List villains have finally been formally introduced.

I was really happy to see Ra's al Ghul, he's one of my favorite Batman villains. Oded Fehr did a great job with his voice, even if I'll have to take some time to get used to it. I guess David Warner's voice has just imbibed itself into my brain for that character, that Fehr has a lot to live up to. But I enjoyed his performance and I am eager to hear more of him. I also enjoyed his skills not just as a leader, but as an assassin. With just pure skill he knew Red Arrow was watching his meeting with Cheshire and Sportsmaster and from where. Very cool. This is why he's the master of the League of Shadows.

And then, there's Lex Luthor. Lex is a character I have never, ever liked. I'm not quite sure why, it's like oil and water with me. I've always thought of him as the poor man's David Xanatos, even years before I ever met the character of David Xanatos. I don't know why. That being said, I did enjoy Mark Rolson's performance as Lex, he brought a lot of charisma to the role. Clancy Brown did the same thing for Lex Luthor too, loved the performance even if I still didn't like the character. Will this version of Lex break the mold and make me like the character? Time will tell. But Greg Weisman managed to make me like Venom, a character I've always detested. Again, time will tell.

Also, looks like we can finally, officially, identify two members of the Light. Oded Fehr voiced L-2, and Mark Rolston voiced L-3. May I just say, and I understand that this might be a bit petty, how ecstatic I am that Lex Luthor is not L-1? If these numbers are indeed a rank, then I would have been disappointed if Lex, again, took center stage. That's one of the reasons why the "Justice League" cartoons disappointed me, because they put too much emphasis on Lex Luthor (who already had that in the Superman cartoon that preceeded it) and not enough on a guy like Vandal Savage, who's appearances in "Justice League" really impressed me and who I felt should have been the main antagonist of that show.

The school scenes were pretty fun, although I was wondering why Superboy needed it, or a secret identity at all. But then, knowledge aside, Superboy could definitely benefit from learning more social skills, so I understand it. Miss Martian too, who seems to have learned everything about interacting with humans from a 50's sitcom.

And who is that, voicing the teacher. Hmm... someone couldn't resist now, could he? ;)

BTW, I loved the origin of the Conner Kent alias, and where they all think the "Kent" part came from.

Greg responds...

I needed the money.

1) Is Mercy an android or a cyborg?

2) How did this version of Clayface get his powers? In Batman the animated series, he had a pretty tragic origin, in which he was disfigured, hooked on a special drug, and then forced to have an overdose which transformed him into Clayface. Was his origin on Earth 16 anything like this?

3) How old is Lex Luthor? How old is Ra's al Ghul?

4) Could Brick breathe beneath that foam stuff that Roy shot at him? If so, was he arrested and convicted?

5) Where is Metropolis located? Where is Star City located?

6) Did the Hook kill Boston Brand in this universe?

7) Did Bane spend most of his life in prison, like in the comics?

8) Is L-7 an existing supervillain in the comics?

9) OK, this is a minor detail, but it's kind of distracting. Where did Roy get his Red Arrow suit from?

10) What is the relationship between Marvin and Wendy? Friends? Relatives? Boyfriend and girlfriend? Are they even close?

Here (http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Infiltrator#Trivia) it says:

When Cheshire is about to kill Dr. Serling Roquette at the end, she desists because the creation of the virus is completed. When this happens, Roquette's laptop emits a sound that's very similar to that of Ben's Omnitrix in Ben 10, another Cartoon Network show.

Was that on purpose?

No. Not even sure if it's true.

Hey Greg has it been some time and got a lot of questions. 1. Since Kobra is in this universe does that mean a chance of Checkmate existing in this universe. 2. Has Superman and Batman worked together before the League. 3. Who was that Miss Martian look-a-like in the front of the classroom. Did you run out of character models, an animation mistake, or was that supposed to be the actor from "Hello, Megan". 4. I'm surprised Superboy showed restraint from fighting Mal Duncan just because of Miss Martian. Just really telling me their relationship has gone very far. 5. I just want to comment on the description of episode 11. Does Batman know what he's doing by sending Miss M and Superboy to island of supercriminals. Sure it'll give them some time as if they didn't have enough but isn't that a little too much for teenagers.

Greg responds...

1. NO COMMENT.

2. NO COMMENT.

3. Just another girl.

5. What island?

Hi, Greg! I have a few questions I have been compiling all this time:

1) Will the Ice Family Attack from "Independence Day" be revisited/explained?

2) Will we get flashbacks, a la "City of Stone"?

3) You say you don't like to spoil your own shows, but you revealed here that Marina Sitris would be voicing Queen Be. Wasn't that a big spoiler since she was also voicing L-4? Or were you sandbagging us somehow?

4) Could you give us the titles of the episodes that are in the can?

Greg responds...

1. NO COMMENT.

2. You mean, ever?

3. I didn't reveal that Marina would be voicing Bee. Unfortunately, much as I love her, MARINA revealed that to my chagrin.

4. Yes, I could.

You mentioned before that the timestamps for "Drop Zone" were fixed, however to date Cartoon Network has never aired the corrected version of the episode in all the times that it has been rerun.

1) On that note, does the hard-to-find Young Justice Season One Volume 1 DVD have the corrected version of "Drop Zone"?

2) Was Red Tornado's incorrect bio from "Welcome to Happy Harbor" ever fixed?

Greg responds...

Are you absolutely SURE about that. Cause we spent a small fortune to fix them. I find it hard to believe they're using the incorrect versions.

1. I sure hope so.

2. We couldn't afford to fix that. Drives me crazy, but there you go.

ASK GREG & YJ UPDATE

ASK GREG & YJ UPDATE

Gorebash, Todd and I will be opening up Ask Greg for questions and comments again on September 16th, 2011 - i.e. the day that the next new episode of Young Justice airs.

I would, as usual, ask a few favors...

1. Please check the, ASK GREG FAQ, the ASK GREG ARCHIVES AND the questions in the queue ahead of you BEFORE posting. It only slows down the queue for everyone if I get the same question asked over and over again.

2. To save more time, both for you AND for me, consider asking your question FIRST of the knowledgeable fans at the STATION 8 COMMENT ROOM: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/comment/index.php

3. Resist the urge to ask for spoilers. I'm not going to spoil my own show. So asking only slows down the queue.

4. Please be polite. You don't have to like my work, but you should be able to critique it without being rude. And please REFRAIN FROM ASSUMING that your argument is going to be SO convincing that I will admit that my own work sucks. WE LIKE OUR SHOW. You don't have to, but you're not going to convince me that I don't.

YJ UPDATE
FIRST SEASON
101-109 have all aired.
110 was previewed at Comic-Con and will premiere on Cartoon Network on September 16th.
111-119 are also in the can, i.e. totally completed and ready for airing.
120-123 are all in post-production. Today we previewed the music for 120, and spotted the music for 121.
124-126 are still being animated.

SECOND SEASON
201 is shipping to Korea at the end of the week.
202 is in timing.
203 is in storyboard clean-ups.
204 is waiting for board notes.
205-206 are in storyboard.
207 records tomorrow.
208-210 are all in script.
211-220 have been approved into production. Brandon Vietti, Kevin Hopps and myself spent the last week (including Saturday) breaking the last six episodes (one per day). We are pitching the arc of the season to DC, CN and WB this Wednesday. Assuming that goes well, we'll have our first writer's meeting to assign 211-214 on Thursday. I have beatsheets completed on 211-216. Have to write up the beatsheets for 217-220, but I've got all the beats on index cards, so it's just a matter of finding the time to transcribe them into a document.

That's it for now. See you all on the 16th of September!

I am loving Young Justice so far. The art is just phenomenal. Especially those underwater flowers in Downtime. Please pass my compliments along to the artists for the show. They're doing an amazing job.
The only bummer so far is not knowing how long before the dreaded hiatus comes to an end. My inner fangirl is so depressed, but we shall continue to wait it out. (I get like this whenever one of my shows like Psych and White Collar go on break, so don't take it to heart.) Besides, it's only making me look forward to when new episodes start airing again.
Which brings me to my question about future episodes. I know that in the comics, Superboy discovers that he has tactile telekinesis and it becomes one of his most used abilites. Assuming he still has TTK in Young Justice and that you are able to answer my question at this time, how far into the future will it be before this ability comes out? And will their latest "souvenir" play a part in this or is that a seperate thing entirely?
Thanks for the awesome show so far and taking the time to answer all of our questions.

Sorry, no "tactile telekinesis". It's not one of Superman's powers.

Second, I have questions. Two, actually.

1. Because there are two Green Lanterns on the Justice League in YJ, I can imagine that there would be a few communication problems, so, what are they called?? Are they referred to by their first names, even in the field? (or whatever the correct term would be...)
2. This is...kind of a strange question. Does Superboy even know how to use the tv? Because, M'Gann asked if she needed to turn something on for him...and...yeah.

Thanks!

1. It's a fair question. And their first names are used often. But it's all on a case by case basis.

Rob writes...

Greg,

Not a question, just a few comments that I've been meaning to write since I first started reading this message board.

First of all Thank You! Thank you for making programming that is appropriate for children and still fun for adults. Thank you for Gargoyles, possibly the greatest cartoon of all time. I am 26 and I still record the late night showings on my DVR and watch them as a reminder to be noble even when it is not to my immediate benefit.

Thank you for hosting this site. It is incredible to me that you still answer Gargoyles, Spectacular Spiderman, as well as YJ questions. I know you must get frustrated with all the fishing questions, but it means more to me than I can express that you have given a forum to keep interest in Gargoyles and SS alive, even though the shows have been canceled.

I am so glad to learn that you are finding success with YJ. I've been excited to read about the toy line and the plans for the "Invasion" miniseries. If there is anyone who deserves this kind of success, it is you. Especially after the heartbreaking losses of your previous projects. I have also enjoyed some of the interviews regarding YJ that I have seen on Comicbookmovie.com and I hope that perhaps your success with YJ will give you a platform to pursue new projects in the future (or maybe old projects... I know... but a guy can dream).

A final thank you for all of the above, but particularly for all of your effort to keep producing quality programming even though I know your efforts in the past have not been met with near the acclaim they (and you) deserve.

Keep fighting the good fight and I know that your long time fans (me included) will continue to support you in your future ventures.

Most Sincerely,

Rob

Greg responds...

I wouldn't exactly call my previous projects "heartbreaking losses". That puts the whole thing in too negative a cast. In general, those were very successful projects - that simply ended before I could tell all the stories I wanted to tell. Doesn't that sound nicer?

And acclaim isn't really the goal. It's nice and all (most but not all of the time), but it's the work itself that gets me up in the morning. I can take or leave the acclaim. And the acclaim I have is plenty, believe me.

But thank you so much for the kind words and sympathy.

Greg responds...

The idea is that, yes, there were heroes back in the 1940s, but that most retired, died, went underground, etc., long ago and that there was a fallow period without super-heroes until Superman showed.

Hi there, I've just been reading about CN's new DC Nation programming block that they're introducing and a couple of sites are saying that the block will be launched with a 10 episode spin-off miniseries of Young Justice called Invasion. I realise that more than likely you won't be able to (or indeed WANT to) go into any details about it, but I was wondering if it's something that you're directly involved in? I ask because I can't see how anyone else can fit a TEN episode arc into the tight-knit chronology that you've got going on in YJ. It also occurred to me that Invasion might just be the last ten episodes of the main show marketed as something different by CN (wouldn't be the first time). Anyway - the show is incredible, one of the best superhero shows ever, as far as I'm concerned.

1) Is Green Arrow and Black Canary 'together' in this version?
2) And why do Megan's eyes sometimes glow different colors? Sometime they are red, and others it is white, or even green. Does each color signify something important?

PS: Megan is my absolute favorite character and I love the way you portray her. I do my best to ignore all the Megan haters out there.

2. This question might sound silly: In YJ, whenever Bruce Wayne buys something does he always pay with cash? I asked because that internet celebrity "Nostalgia Critic" (Doug Walker) gets very annoyed everytime he hears that "Bat-Credit Card".

3. Have you heard that there is another Batman cartoon series on the way?

1. Depends on one's interpretation of the character.

2. I'm not sure what a "Bat-Credit Card" is. But I assume Bruce Wayne sometimes pays with cash, and sometimes with credit, like any rich guy.

Now to business: I’m working on a theory as to the identity of the Light.

In the episode Fireworks the character Blockbuster is the main antagonist. This is the episode where we’re introduced to L-1 and L-3.

In the episode Drop Zone Sportsmaster is the main antagonist. This is the episode where we’re introduced to an uncredited member of the light who (I believe) has a Spanish accent.

In the episode Infiltrator the League of Shadows (specifically Sensi, Cheshire and Professor Ojo) are the main antagonists. This is the episode where we’re introduced to L-2.

In the episode Downtime, Black Manta is the main antagonists. This is the episode where we’re introduced to L-5.

In the episode Bereft, Psimon is the main antagonist. This is the episode where we’re introduced to L-4. Now my theory is this: There’s a relationship between the Main Antagonist of the episode and the identity of the member of the light who appears in that episode. Am I correct in my line of reasoning, or am I off base?

Greg responds...

Both.

I don't know if you're crazy. I don't know what the captions said. We're not responsible for them. And on past series I've worked on, they've been known to ... well, contain the occasional error.

I saw that someone asked a question involving the information given to us on 3/22/11 specifically this quote "Cartoon Network has also announced a special 10-episode Young Justice mini-series dubbed "Invasion," spinning out of the popular animated series, set to air either late 2011 or 2012. Further details are expected."

Some of my questions are
1. I was wondering what does spinning out of the series mean?
2. Is this just a major arc of the television series?
3. If it's not will it feature the Young Justice team as the main protagonists?
4. Are you directly involved in this project?
5. Is it going to be related to the plot of Young Justice?
6. Will we receive new episodes of Young Justice while this series is airing?
7. Will this count towards our 26 episode season?

And another question on this same page Young Justice is listed under returning shows does that mean that you got picked up for a second season?

The page that spawned all these questions can be found here: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/news.php/news.php?action=fullnews&id=994

First of all, I must say, I am absolutely in love with Young Justice. I was kind of skeptical about it at first, because I thought that it would be another Teen Titans and I'd never really read the comic books, but now that I've been watching it, I love the characters, their weird personalities and the team as a whole. It's the best thing on TV, right now, in my opinion. It's mine and my friend's favorite thing to watch, at the moment. I'm kind of upset about the hiatus though.

Anyways, I was watching the episode Downtime and I was wondering, where does Aqualad live? I mean, at first I thought that he lived in Atlantis with Aqualad but the whole plot of the episode was about how he didn't spend enough time there and his conversations with various Atlanteans show that he hasn't been home in awhile. So, I was just wondering, does Aqualad live on Earth somewhere with, like, a foster family or something of the like? It's just a question that's been on my mind for awhile.

Absolutely love the work you are doing on Young Justice, just had a few questions about ideas and concepts created and dealt with by you and the rest of the YJ staff.

1. How do you find a balance between what you want to write, what DC will let you do and fandom desires and expectations?

2. The episode "Denial" reveals the existence of Justice Society and posits a superheroic history that is beyond the scope of the show; are fans to assume that the Young Justice universe follows the events of the main DC universe unless otherwise noted?

3. As Young Justice takes place on Earth-16, do you feel the freedom to alter and erase events from the main DC universe to fit your particular vision?

Greg responds...

1. The only consideration is what Brandon and I thinks works best for the series. DC isn't telling us to do anything, and they have been great partners, who have not restricted us at all. As for "fandom desires and expectations"... well, you need to keep in mind that the fans aren't monolithic. Some want X. Some want Y. But ultimately, Brandon and I are huge fans of all this stuff ourselves. So the best and only route that makes any sense is for us to passionately meet our desires and expectations, and then cross our fingers and hope a majority of our viewers agree.

2. No. One should assume nothing.

3. I wouldn't use the word "erase". But, in essence, yes.

I've been watching Young Justice since it first aired and I must say that I'm impressed. Even though it's not quite like the original comics it has a certain feel to it that makes it likeable and unique.

I just would like to know if I'm the only one who thinks that during the episode "Downtime", Superboy had this grim face all the time while watching television. Kinda sad, hahaha.
Are you going to keep the backstories as in the comics? I will not spoil, but I would like to know if Superboy will get his human name. That would be awesome.

You guys are doing a really great job. Disregard what others say, this is not at all like "Teen Titans". There are no really obvious anime references like the show used to, which was kind of annoying, and it is actually action packed.
The romances are kind of rushed too, but I can handle it given all the romance there was in the comics.

Keep up the awesome work!

Greg responds...

Thanks.

Hi, I searching and didn't find this asked, but if it was, please excuse this!
1. I really don't have a problem with the Robin in YJ being Dick Grayson, but I'm wondering why is it that the developers picked Dick and not Tim Drake? I guess I was just looking forward to Tim since Dick got to be in Teen Titans.

2. In the episode Bereft, there is a quick flashback when M'gann is regaining memories of a white cheerleader who looks like M'gann (except white, not green) and says "Hello, Megan." Who is this girl? My friends and I speculate that the girl is from a TV show and M'gann emulated this girl's form and mannerisms (except becoming green to match J'onn) to fit in on Earth. This, though, implies that this isn't M'gann's true form (white martian, perhaps?) I know you don't want to spoil anything or give things away, but I thought I'd ask anyways.

Greg responds...

1. <sigh> I'm fairly confident this was asked and answered before, but - briefly: Tim's origin makes NO SENSE without Dick preceding him. And since we were doing EARLY days of Earth-16, it just made way more sense to go with Dick. The (I think arguable) notion that Dick was in Titans played no role in our decision. Neither did the (even more dubious) idea that it was somehow Tim's turn. Our cast was not in any way dictated by other series. We didn't chose to include or disinclude characters because of other shows. We just tried to do what was right for OUR series.

Hi Greg,
I'm in love with Young Justice, just one thing has been bugging me. Martian Manhunter is my all-time fave superhero, and I couldn't help but notice that in 'Bereft', his name was pronounced way differently than earlier in the series. In previous series I've always heard it as & pronounced it 'Zhawn' but heard M'gann say 'Juh-on'. Was this simply an oversight? Did I imagine it? Am I simply being too nitpicky?
In any case, great job on the show. I have high respect for everyone working on this; it's pure gold. Every DCAU series before has been great in their own way, but YJ is definitely executed in an overall better way. Kudos!

Greg responds...

In our series, he's ALWAYS been J'onn, with a slight glottal stop after the J, which is how we interpret the transliteration. (I mean, why put the apostrophe in there at all, if it's not going to be honored?) Not Zhawn, which I know is how his name was pronounced in the JUSTICE LEAGUE series. Different series, different interpretations, different choices.

I'm not bilingual.

Superboy speaks many, many languages, including (but not limited to) English, Spanish, French, Korean, Arabic, Russian, etc.

Aqualad speaks English and Atlantean, and can get by in Ancient Greek and Modern Greek.

Miss Martian speaks English and Martian. But she also has the ability to translate psychically.

Kid Flash speaks English and some high school Latin.

Artemis speaks English, Vietnamese and French.

Robin speaks English, and can get by in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, at least.

Bereft- greatly enjoyed
A few things I noticed...

1-Artimas continues to remind me a bit of Cassandra Cain, in this case her relationship with her father. Additionally, with a 6 months time frame, her (annoyed) assumption that she was meant to kill Kid Flash and and her complete none recognition of her costume, I assume her current lifestyle is a recent and complete change from what came before. (How recent is what surprises me.) Has she been with her mother less than 6 months?

2-Wally, without his memory, seems to default to something a little more gallant. He hits on Artimas far less and genuinely reaches out to her with help and companionship. He also seems far more professional as befiting finding yourself solo and confused mid mission. (He barely pesters M'gan at all. On the possibly more negative side it could be read as he latches on to the first pretty girl. I perfer to think he is just less of a horndog and more in tune to the folks around him when he forgets to keep up his reputation.)

3-M'Gan was green 6 months ago, and refers to J'ohn as her uncle. Seems to be pointing at a populated Mars and her not being a White Martian.

4-M'gana and Kon are jsut plain sweet together.

5-I recognized the voice o the member of The Light and I heard in advance who Marina Stirtis is cast to play- possible spoilers. Doesn't bug me- I can take or leave The Light at this point. I'm sure that will change as things go on.

...one of the clips shows Aquaman with longer hair than he has on the show right now, am I right to assume that as time passes some characters appearances might change, or was the design changed or something?

Greg responds...

Some characters' appearances may indeed change, but that's not an example. The Aquaman with longer hair was development artwork, not final production artwork.
__
1) Hmmm I just checked it wasn't artwork that was shown it was an actual clip, the whole league standing side by side looking at the team and then it cuts to Batman who starts saying something and in that clip Aquaman has long hair...

2) Anyway that's all great, character appearances might change one or more main characters will die and and actual timeline you do spoil us fans with all this great stuff.

Though I do hope you guys wont make it a comic book death cause I hate those...
I mean why kill a character in the first place if your gonna bring him back, don't get me wrong I do love the characters and it's gonna be sad to see them gone, but that's the point, you make us love them and then when we least expect it you kill em off making us feel all sad and the like.

3) Again anyway, last thing I just kinda have to ask, if by the time you read this it's been answered here, just ignore it.

Is that Sphere thing an existing um... character in the dc universe? or is it someone/something new created for the show?
I haven't been able to find anything on him so I'm guessing created for the show but I'm just curious.

Greg responds...

1. I know. And that clip was a test, done with DEVELOPMENT ARTWORK. It doesn't count.

2. I NEVER said "one or more main characters will die". I'm not saying they won't either. What I said, is "No one is safe."

Hey Greg. My name is Will, and Young Justice is the first of your shows I have come across of which I am thoroughly enjoying, and I have a few questions about it.

1. I presume the case with having DC characters in an animated show, is that they have to be approved. Now, I am not asking for names, but how do you go about having a 'character aproved'? Now, let's use Robin for example. In the early stages of production when you decided you wanted Robin, what happens? Also let's say you wanted to use Miss Martian, but she was not approved. What effects these outcomes?

2. In the episode 'Infiltrator', there is a member of the League of Shadows known as 'Black Spider'. Now with your work on 'The Spectacular Spider-Man, I couldn't help but think that this was a reference to Spider-Man. Am I correct in saying that?

3. Do you ever look back at the 'Young Justice' or 'Teen Titans' comics for inspiration?

4. After the airing of episode 9 'Bereft', there is a small break where repeats are shown. Why is this?

5. How did the idea of the 'Young Justice' TV series come about? Was it an idea you had? Were you approached about the idea?

6. It hasn't actually been confirmed in the series, but the team, is it called 'Young Justice'? Or is it nameless?

7. Last of all, not sure if you are allowed to answer this, but what have you had most fun working on in your television career?

Thanks so much for your time to answer the questions, I really appreciate it. I am thoroughly enjoying YJ, it has exceeded all of my expectations, and fingers crossed for a season 2! Funnily enough, I am also the creator of the Young Justice Wiki, and since your comment about confirmed canon on the Gargoyles wiki, we have taken it on board, and improved it greatly.
Thanks again, Will.

Greg responds...

1. The reasons for an approval or lack there of, have to do with various legal, strategic and financial issues, which I am NOT privy to. When we began Young Justice, we asked - more or less - for everyone. The entire DC Universe. And that's pretty much what we got. There were, at the beginning of the process, a handful of characters that were declared off-limits, and - because I've admitted this previously - I'll acknowledge that one of those was Wonder Girl. Since then, all restrictions have been lifted.

2. Black Spider is an existing DC Character, who has been associated with The League of Assassins in the comics in the past.

3. We did, yes.

4. You'd have to ask Cartoon Network.

5. Sam Register suggested it to Brandon Vietti and myself. We ran with it from there.

6. It's called "The Team". Young Justice is ONLY the title of the series. Not the name of the Team.

7. Probably Gargoyles, still. But I've had a great time on Roughnecks, W.I.T.C.H., Spectacular Spider-Man, Young Justice and even the occasional freelance assignment.

Hi Greg,

I've been reading through the archives, and came across some comments you made about Lexington's sexuality, and how you wouldn't have been allowed to reference it on television (even implicitly). I was just curious if, over a decade later, restrictions on this subject matter had changed at all?

ie. IF you determined that a character on Young Justice was gay (and BTW, this is all theoretical... it's not my sneaky way of asking if any gay characters will appear) do you think there would still be the same sorts of restrictions?

If I am right about this, I like the way you have chosen to show the other side of the orignal dynamic without superboy being evil of course.

The YJ theme song and the visuals are very cool. Were there other versions of either the theme or the visuals that you had? What sparked the decision to have scenes from an episode in their respective appearance?

Also, the flashback in "Bereft" hinted that Megan might've picked up her catchphrase from a TV show. Or was she perhaps on the show? ;)

Is Aqualad the only Atlantean to use Water Bearers, or is it part of his maturity as an adult, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly? The Queen didn't use Bearers at all.

What sparked the choice to have the Atlantean speak in "Downtime," and who created it? Was it hard for the voice actors to do?

Greg responds...

It was Brandon's idea to use scenes from the episode in the middle of the main title. I was leery of the idea, as I don't like spoilers much, but Brandon and our editor Jho Reyes always manage to find great images that tease without spoiling.

Aqualad is considerably less advanced magically than Mera. He requires the tool; she does not.

The Atlantean was a challenge for everyone. But I think it turned out well. The idea was mine, in keeping with what Brandon and I have done with the REALITY of foreign languages in the series as a whole. I figured it should be some variation on Ancient Greek, and contacted Aris Katsaris, a Greek Gargoyle fan in order to get his help for both the translations and the transliterations. Figure that anything we got wrong... is because Atlantean is an unknown dialect of Ancient Greek.

Hi Greg. Some of my questions may cross in to "spoilery" territory. Sorry if that happens.

1) Regarding "Schooled" ... I noticed that Amazon only duplicated the League's powers one at a time is that how his power works, or can he use their powers all at once?

2) Is there a limit to the types of powers that Amazo can duplicate? For instance, could he duplicate magic-based powers like those of Zatara and Captian Marvel?

3) Speaking of Captain Marvel... As a huge Shazam fan I am often annoyed by modern interpretations of the character which often depict him as either 1) a second rate Superman, or 2) a mentally retarded six year old. Can you comment at all upon Young Justice's depiction of Captain Marvel?

4) My favorite cartoon from the 80s, Dungeons & Dragon, clocks in at 24 minutes. Young Justice seems to be 21 minutes long. (Do I have that right?) Why are the episodes so short, and is there anything we can do about this for future seasons?

Greg,

First of all, I'd like to say I'm a huge fan of your work since Gargoyles made my young mind snap from "short attention span" to "give me more character-driven serial fiction!" during the Disney Afternoon days (jeez, I'm old...). When I heard you were doing Spectacular Spider-Man, I knew I was going to be in for a treat and while the show only got two seasons, DAMN were they exactly what I needed out of a Spider-Man show.

I've read the questions posted and have sat here making sure I won't ask an *eye-roll*-worthy one or something that will inspire the "no comment"-of doom, so here goes:

Gargoyles and Young Justice both have a family quality to the teams of characters that are our protagonists. We're introduced to a small band of 6-7 heroes by the writers and over the course of adventure after adventure we the viewer comes to feel as much as a part of that "family" as they do with each other. My question is (and I am in NO WAY fishing for spoilers or hints or what have you) what are your feelings on shows that expand these bases down the line? I remember, for example, that when Avatar added Toph her initial episodes didn't seem to gel with the audience I was viewing the show with and it felt like (to us) that the character didn't fit into a narrative we'd become accustomed to, yet by the end of the season (and this was our fault for not trusting the writers), Toph was a great piece of a larger cast that grew organically. Do you feel that adding, say, Angela as a new member of the Gargoyle family can hurt the narrative established with an audience burned time after time by artificial 90's cartoon storylines or does the idea of getting to add, say, the Wonder Twins (again, not fishing hence why I use these guys) offer up an opportunity to you as a writer for a left turn in the plot that you get to have a "trust us, we know what we're doing" stance with your audience?

(man that was a huge run-on senence...)

second question

When you and Brandon were mapping out the season (I saw the great behind the scenes video from SDCC), what was the best ah-ha moment (related to something we've already seen, not a spoiler or fishing trip) that you as a team came up with? Mostly I'm just looking for an anecdote about working as a team, you could even be vague and pronouny.

Third and final quesiton

You've now gotten to work on Marvel's Spider-verse, and the entire DC universe. I've noticed that in both cases you've gotten to go your own way on certain characters you've gotten to use (e.g. Silver Sable was a villain on Spider-Man with a relationship to Silvermane). Which comes first in cases where this occurs? Do you riff on story ideas and go, "we need a psychic badass" and then go, "let's use Psimon, but let's tweak him a little" or do you (or someone on the team) say, "Man, we REALLY need to use Abra Kadabra and I think I know how we could do that!" Since both shows have shown you dipping into a huge pool of characters, what about a character makes them a "semi-blank canvas" character that you can take as an opportunity to fit within your storybeats versus a character that you feel is fully-formed and just needs an artistic tweak to fit your plot?

Again, thank you so much for this board, your time, and this show. You've contributed so much to quality animation and, I hope you see the compliment here, but when I and my friends push Gargoyles on to newbies, we usually describe it as, "It's like the Wire, but with Shakespere, monsters, and the NYPD"

Greg responds...

1. I don't see how expanding the cast ORGANICALLY hurts the narrative.

2. I don't know that we had a single "Ah ha!" moment on YJ. But when things are working, they just begin to come together.

3. We've worked it from both directions. Ultimately, we ALWAYS try to be true to the spirit of the character - though sometimes we are intentionally introducing the character at a pre-classic stage. Silver Sable is a perfect example. We had long term plans for her that would have eventually brought her closer to the Sable from the comics. But we liked this backstory for her - and connecting her to Silvermane helped preserve the coherence of our universe.

I searched through the archives and didn't find anything, but I hope I didn't miss anything!

First, I'd just like to say great job on Young Justice! I'm really liking all of the characters so far. You've done a great job making them all into people you can relate to, and I like the way they are developing. I can clearly see that they are growing- and all their flaws are not just there for no reason, they are all well rounded characters. Red Arrow is my prime example- I already liked him from the beginning, but I could see why people thought he was just angry. Then you put in his speech at the end of 'Infiltrator' ("Don't hurt my friends") and I like him a lot more. He's more than just 'the angry one'.

Anyways, I was watching 'Bereft', and the way Psimon made them all forget through the team's psychic link fascinated me. It got me thinking. How does their mind link work, exactly? Do they have to specifically project thoughts, or do subconscious thoughts also get through? Is there some level of empathy involved (M'gann felt when Superboy was in pain) and if so, would only M'gann be affected or would everyone feel it, if they were linked up? Also, how much control do the others have over the link? If this will be explored in greater detail later on in the series, feel free to ignore my question. Thanks!

Greg responds...

M'gann's mindlink only projects conscious attempts at communication. It's a very surface-level connection.

Hi Greg, I want to ask some questions of Young Justice.
1. In Kirby's original DNA Project stories (the origin of Cadmus) Guardian is a clone of the original Jim Harper who was killed in action-- a creation of "The Project". There is a reference to this during "Fireworks" when Dubbilex refers to Guardian as "brother", a term he usually reserves for other genomorphs. So is Guardian a clone.
2. Mark Desmond become "Blockbuster" by Blockbuster serum developed through a combination of genetic research and strange blue ice crystals by Cadmus. Is he a "Genomorph".
3. Mammoth was infected with Kobra Venom(combination of Blockbuster serum & Venom) and was permanently transformed into a super strong monstrosity. Is he a "Genomorph".
4 I saw all YJ 9 episodes, when is the next episode realeasing.
5 Are new characters joining YJ core team. I would like to see Wonder Girl, BeastBoy, Zatana and Raven in the team or at least in the show.

Greg responds...

1. "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT."

2. No.

3. No.

4. Not sure.

5. "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT." Except, I've already admitted that a couple more characters will join the Team by the end of the season.

Greg,

So I watched Gargoyles as a kid, you know on Disney channel at two in the morning, and needless to say at that time I didn't really appreciate it for everything that it is. It seems that in the past few months after I found someone with the full episodes on DVD, that all I've been able to do in my spare time is watch them, I also ordered the comics as soon as I realized they existed! Anyway, I wanted to know if you had any future plans of trying to continue the story? Or if anything is in the works? I am sure this is an entirely redundant question that you are terribly sick of asking. I have seen it asked before but a while back, so I figured I'd give it another go, I compeletely understand if you don't anwser!

I also want to say that I am really starting to get into Young Justice! A few years back when Teen Titans was cancelled I almost fell over from shock, but YJ definatly surpasses TT by far!

Greg responds...

Nothing is currently in the works, I'm afraid on Gargoyles, but I haven't given up - and I have plenty of ideas to continue if given the opportunity.

Who's in on the secret that Wally knows Robin's secret identity?
Does Robin realize he knows?
Does Robin know Wally's?
Will we find out how Wally found out either in the comics or the show?

Greg responds...

1. Wally and Dick.

2. Yes.

3. Yes, though that's not as big a secret.

4. Maybe eventually, but it's not that complicated. Dick told him.

So when it comes to defeating criminals, is the young justice team willing to take the lives of criminals if their teammates or those they are trying to protect are in danger?

I noticed in 'bereft' that miss martian used her powers to smash two planes together. Were there not pilots in them? Even artemis started shooting explosive arrows at superboy and she technically wouldn't have known if he would have withstood that. Its also pretty clear that red arrow has killed to protect the scientist in 'infiltrator'.

Greg responds...

Those weren't planes, they were drones. They weren't even big enough for a human to sit in them.

As for the rest of the examples, you mentioned, I think you're assuming a LOT. But we left things ambiguous on purpose.

Hi Greg,

I just noticed something while rewatching "Downtime"; Tula, Garth and Queen Mera's tattoos only become visible when they are performing magic, but Kaldur's tattoos are always visible on his arms. Why is that? Is it because he has darker skin, or does he have a different kind of Atlantean tattoo than the Queen and his two best friends?

Greg responds...

It's because he dropped out of Sorcery school before he got to their advanced level.

What was the reasoning behind Roy naming himself Red Arrow? He seemed to be wanting to distance himself from Green Arrow & the League, yet Red Arrow is a closer to Green Arrow's name than Speedy is.

So my question is why didn't he just keep the Speedy name, or name himself Arsenal, or you guys make up a new name for him to go by?

Greg responds...

How does "Arsenal" make any sense in this context? And, frankly, how did "Speedy" make any sense ever? (Okay, okay, I know the answer to the latter. But in a world with Kid Flash, it just smacks of both immaturity and confusion at this point.)

And I don't think Roy wants to 'distance' himself from Green Arrow as much as he wants to be treated as an EQUAL. Hence, Red Arrow.

Hi Greg. I just had a few questions about the time line and one that’s a little more thematic.
1. When was the Justice Society active?
2. We’ve seen Doctor Fate was a member is it safe to assume that Jay from the episode downtime was as well?
3. The League was founded seven years ago how long of a gap was there between the disbanding of the Justice Society and the founding of the League?
4. How long have Superman and Batman been active as heroes. I ask because you’ve stated they’re in their early thirties and I was wondering what age they where when they started fighting crime.
5. Young Justice are essentially child soldiers something that was commented on by the light during the closing of the pilot. My question is do you plan to deal with the implications that carries or is it just an unintentional subtext that came out of writing a show about young heroes?

Greg responds...

1. 1940-1951. Although, there were years during the war when the Society temporarily expanded to become the All-Star Squadron.

2. Yes.

3. Do the math.

4. Twelve years ago for Superman. Eleven for Batman. Each was 21 the year he started.

5. Both.

I dunno. Up to a point, sure. We've all got that swimming around in our heads. But it also just made sense given the circumstances.

Another Rumor to Squash

Back from San Diego Comic-Con and was thrilled to see the outpouring of good wishes and thanks on the internet for us. But...

Someone seems to have spread the idea that our panel went poorly and that the fans who attended were rude to us.

NOTHING could be further from the truth. The panel - to my mind - went EXTREMELY well. The response to episode 10 seemed great, despite the fact that I think many in the room had seen it already, and we had a fun (if brief) Q&A after. Plus Miss Martian (and some other dude) brought us cookies. We then had a fun signing and press interviews. All full of praise.

I'll admit that ASK GREG has occasionally been inundated with a bit of rudeness, but that's at least in part thanks to the relative anonymity of the internet. In person, at the conventions, the fans are just terrific!

So thank you,

STAY YOUNG!

STAY JUST!

San Diego Comic-Con 2011

Well, I'm here!

I've so much work backed up from Oregon, ConVergence and being sick that I may spend an unfortunate amount of time holed up in my hotel room, nose to grindstone (grindstone = laptop), but if YOU are here, there are a few places you can find me:

Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:30am - 12:30pm, I'll be signing Gargoyles TPBs at the SLG Booth (#1815 - across from the DC Comics booth). Stop by and say hello!

Sunday at 10 am, Brandon Vietti, character designer Phil Bourassa, Danica McKellar (the voice of Miss Martian) and myself will be appearing at a panel for YOUNG JUSTICE in Room 7AB. We'll be screening an episode, followed by a Q&A.

After that, from 11:15am until noon, the four of us will be signing some VERY cool and unique (and even spoilerish) YJ giveaways at the Warner Bros. Booth (#4545). So again, stop by and say hey!

We based it on what we knew of it, which was mostly a handful of proper names. We extrapolated from that. Whether that makes it "gibberish" or well-thought out "gibberish" is subject to interpretation.

Hey Greg,
This is not so much a question but more a little feed back on how much I'm enjoying Young Justice. I simply love it and I can't get enough. The stories are second to none and everything just flows so nicely. I especially love the little details that go into it. This show is clearly being made with lots of passion and talented people behind it. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out.

Now the main thing I wanted to bring up here was your Brother, Jon. I wasn't really familiar with any of his prior work but the episode "Infiltrator" truly blew me away. This episode had it all. I loved the dialogue and just the whole entire pacing of the script. It was so well done and I hope there will be more scripts from him in the future. Please make sure he knows I enjoyed it very much :)

As always, Greg, keep up the great work. You and your team definitely have a winner on your hands.

P.S. The comic tie-in is also great. For anyone who hasn't picked up the new YJ comics then please do so. It's a fantastic read and it's all in continuity with the show.

Greg responds...

Thanks for all the kind words. I'll pass on your praise to Jon, who is indeed writing multiple more episodes for us.

Hey Greg, I have an awkward question for you. I was wondering just how "risque" you guys are allowed to go on Young Justice. In the pilot when Miss Martian is shapeshifting and turns says boys are harder to mimmick, Robin says "You won't fool anyone with THOSE." Embarrassed, she slinks down into her seat, ignoring the comment about her, uh, "lung area."

I ask mainly because other shows on Cartoon Network such as Total Drama Island, Adventure Time, and Clone Wars have a notice they are TV-PG before they start. I looked it up and PG-TV covers

The TV-PG rating may be accompanied by one or more of the following sub-ratings:

* D for some suggestive dialogue
* L for infrequent coarse language
* S for mild sexual content
* V for moderate violence

I then thought that with Superboy and Miss Martian's budding relationship, and them both living alone at the base, with only Red Tornado as an occasional visitor, we may get some implied humorous "hijinks" later down the road.

Thanks for your time!

Greg responds...

I think you misinterpreted the line. "Those" referred to the two transformations, i.e. Robin and Kid Flash.

But a double entendre is a double entendre - if only in the mind of the viewer.

Hey Greg. I am so far loving Young Justice especially the Maega and Superboy moments, but i'm really mad that what happened between Superboy and Miss Martian in the cave in the episode "Downtime" is still not answered. I was hoping "Bereft" would answer it, but the scene was cut off. Is it a really important plot point or will it be answered in the comic book spinoff.

Just to say that I think that Superboy pobably heard Red Tornado and just sat back down or they did kiss and that would explain his concern for her safety.
Anyway, can't wait to find out.

Greg responds...

They haven't kissed.

How exactly did the memory recovery work in "Bereft?" I know that Miss M had to personally restore Superboy's memories, but it seems like the others were starting to remember on their own. Did Psimon just cut off their access to those memories instead of erasing them? That seems to be the only way they would be able to regain them so quickly.

Greg responds...

Yes, exactly.

SO WHERE HAVE I BEEN? Updates & Debunks

Hello everyone,

Haven't posted here in a while, and since I did a bit of message board lurking this morning, it seems to have led people to believe all sorts of odd things, so...

Where have I been?

Well, in early June, my family and I went to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon.
We saw seven plays in four days. Six of them (Henry IV, Part Two, The Language Archive, To Kill a Mockingbird, Julius Caesar, Love's Labours Lost and Measure for Measure) were just stellar productions. Everyone was great, but I'd like to particularly single out Susannah Flood in both Language Archive and Mockingbird, Dee Maaske in Mockingbird and Michael Winters as Falstaff in 2HenryIV.

Coming back from that, I was understandably swamped and didn't have time to post.

Next, I went to Minneapolis for the always great ConVergence convention. I did about thirteen panels. Some of which, like Gargoyles and Spider-Man and Young Justice, I felt qualified to be on. And some, like Dexter and Galaxy Quest, my only qualification was being a fan of whatever we were talking about. This was my third ConVergence, and it continues to be the best run convention I've ever attended. And now that the Gathering of the Gargoyles is no more, it has become my FAVORITE convention to attend.

Returning from ConVergence, I then got quite ill. In fact, I'm still home sick today. (Home sick as opposed to homesick, clear?)

So THOSE are the reasons I haven't posted. Nothing nefarious.

Next topic: YOUNG JUSTICE UPDATE.

We have aired episodes 101-109 (i.e. Season One, episodes 1-9).

(Yes, episode 110 accidentally was posted on Cartoon Network's website, but I'm going to pretend that never happened.)

Episodes 110-115 are in the can, i.e. they are completed and ready to air.

Episode 116 awaits only the final on-line, i.e. the final review of the episode. This has been delayed ONLY because I've been out sick this week.

Episode 117 will have it's sound mix on Friday. (I hope to be back at work by then.)

Episode 118 has been edited and work progresses on scoring and sound effects.

Episode 119 is ready to begin post-production.

Episodes 120-123 are being animated in Korea.

Episodes 124-126 are in layout in Korea, while we finish the final color models here in the States.

Episodes 201-202 (i.e. Season Two, Episodes one and two) - Are fully recorded and are in storyboard. (201 was written by me. 202 by Nicole Dubuc.)

Episode 203, written by Kevin Hopps, is almost fully recorded. We have one actor left to pick up, who has been out of town. It is also in storyboard.

Episode 204, written by me, will record this week. It is also in storyboard.

Episode 205 - Brandon Vietti, has turned in his draft of the script. I have to read and edit it.

Episode 206 - The outline, written by Peter David and edited by me, went out Monday for notes, which are due tomorrow.

Episode 207 - Kevin Hopps turned in his outline, which I need to read and edit.

Episode 208 - I'm writing this one. I'll start the outline, after I've edited the outline to 207.

Episode 209 - Jon Weisman turned in his outline, which I need to read and edit.

Episode 210 - Kevin Hopps is working on his outline.

We do NOT yet have a pick-up beyond episode 210, but our bosses have told us to start blocking out episodes 211-220 in anticipation of one.

Episode 211 - We've broken this story. I still need to find time to write up the Beat Outline, though I have it all on index cards.

Episode 212 - We've got the basics of this one down, but we (i.e. myself, Brandon and Kevin) still need to finish breaking the story.

Episodes 213-220 - We've got a very clear sense of the arc and what things need to happen, but we haven't started on these yet.

NEXT TOPIC: DEBUNKING YJ RUMORS

False Rumor #1: YJ IS A GREG WEISMAN PRODUCTION
Everywhere on the Internet, all I see is that YJ is Greg Weisman's show. That's just blatantly false. This is a VIETTI/WEISMAN production. Just as Spectacular Spider-Man was a COOK/WEISMAN production and Gargoyles was a PAUR/WEISMAN production. I am not, nor have I ever been, a one-man show on ANY project I've EVER worked on. EVER. And in particular, on YJ, it's extremely unfair to Brandon to leave him out of consideration. Brandon is heavily involved in every aspect of production, INCLUDING SERIES DEVELOPMENT AND STORY. He's been right there with myself and Kevin Hopps breaking every single episode. It's been a team effort from day one. Many of the series' best ideas came/come from Brandon. And this is aside from the fact, that of course, Brandon can write - but I cannot draw, which arguably makes him MORE important to the production than I. I am exceedingly proud of this series and my own work on it - though certain very vocal fans seem to think I shouldn't be - but that doesn't change the fact that Brandon and I are a team.

False Rumor #2: YJ WAS RUSHED INTO PRODUCTION
Another blatant misconception. Look, Brandon and I are both perfectionists. Neither of us would deny that we'd LOVE to have more time on each and every episode. But that's not the same as being rushed. Let's make a comparison: on Spectacular Spider-Man, I basically had one week to develop both the series and the entire first season. Then Vic Cook came aboard, and we raced to get into production in less than two months. Brandon and I had seven months to develop the series, break the first season (which granted had twice as many episodes as the first season of Spidey) and head into production. The show isn't and never has been rushed. That's not to say the schedule isn't tight. But we haven't aired a single episode that wasn't ready to air. And we won't.

False Rumor #3: YJ ISN'T AIRING NOW BECAUSE WE'RE REWORKING EPISODES BASED ON INTERNET CRITICISM
This is my favorite. I love it the most because the first person I saw who posted this rumor also said that I'd deny it. So here I am denying it, which of course serves to PROVE that he or she was correct, see? Let's be clear: for better or worse, this series is COMPLETELY unaffected by internet criticism BECAUSE of schedule. Everything of any significance was set and DONE before even the pilot movie aired last November, so we couldn't address fan concerns even if we wanted to. And, honestly, we don't want to. We don't in part because there is way less consensus than some people seem to think. For example, for every post I see expressing hatred for "Hello, Megan!", I see a post that likes it. And personally, I like it. Brandon likes it. So why would we change it, even if we could? In fact, even Season Two is moving forward more or less disregarding "fan" criticism. Brandon and I always had very clear ideas for what we wanted to do in Season Two (and even Season Three, should we get one) and those ideas haven't changed. As with every series I've co-helmed, all we can ever do is write and produce to OUR OWN passions - and then just cross our fingers and hope enough people share our passions to make it a success. Anything else is doomed to failure, because if we're not passionate about it, it'll show in the work, and then no one will like it. And just to make it clear: WE LIKE OUR SHOW!! Doesn't mean you have to - but don't try to tell me I don't.

So why aren't we airing new episodes now? That's a fair question that I don't have an answer for. After all, we have six unaired episodes in the can, with four more on the verge of completion. It's a Cartoon Network decision. Some fans have argued that they shouldn't have started airing ANY episodes until ALL episodes were in the can. But that too is a decision above my pay grade.

My best guess - and that's all it is - is that CN will air new episodes - starting with 110 ("Targets") - in September. The good news is that the later they wait, the more weeks they can go uninterrupted by reruns. I do know that Season Two (i.e. "Young Justice: Invasion") will begin airing as part of DC NATION in March of 2012. And by then ALL of Season One will have aired. So do the math.

People have asked me if I'm bummed about losing momentum by this delay. But the thing is we've ALREADY lost all momentum. So as long as they PROMOTE us whenever they finally do start airing us again, then pragmatically I'm good. Yes, I'll admit to a certain level of frustration in that I want our stuff to get out there, but if CN has a plan to make the most of the episodes, then more power to them.

Anyway, I think that's it for now. I'll get back to answering questions on ASK GREG as soon as I can find the time. (But keep in mind that San Diego Comic-Con is fast approaching. Note: Young Justice has a panel scheduled for Sunday, July 24th at 10am, with a signing to follow. I'll also be signing Gargoyles comics (and whatever else anyone might want) at the SLG Booth from 11:30am to 12:30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (July 21, 22, 23).
