Hello,
Today you answered my questions about the beasts of the Xanadu clan & weather the Lach Ness clan were amphibious, & that those would be good questions to ask the biology panel at the Con.
Unfortunatley, due to financial constraints I will not be able to attend...but by the time you recieve this question the Con will probably be over.
Were those topics discussed at all? And if so, did you come to a conclusion?
You also said in your post that you were leaning toward the Xanadu clan having incorporated all types of beasts. If you have since made a final decision, and that is what you've concluded, does that mean there is still hope for the London clan beasts, or did they die out before the Xanadu clan had a chance to save some?
Thank you.
I can't remember if that was discussed. And if we came to any conclusions, I can't remember that either.
I haven't reached a firm conclusion yet, but even if I did, that would fall into Spoiler territory.
Hello Mr. Wiesman,
I have been reading the archives and I have a couple of questions regarding the more obscure Gaegoyle clans:
1) Youve mentioned that the Xanadu clan exists to protect the Beast lineage. My question is, are their Beasts all from Chinese stock, or have they incorporated other "breeds" (so to speak) into that gene-pool? Basically, Im asking if they all have the same basic appearance, or reflect all types of Beasts.
2) You also once said that the Lach Ness clan were aquatic in nature. Does that mean that they are truly amphibious (like frogs), or can they just hold their breath for long lengths of time (like dolphins)?
Thanks.
1. Leaning toward the latter, but haven't made a final decision yet.
2. Likewise, I haven't decided, though again I lean toward the latter.
These might both be good questions to bring up at the Gargoyles Biology and Culture panel this July at CONvergence. There are always some actual biologists in the room to advise me.
Almost every gargoyle clan we've meet in the show or that you've us about protects something. The Guatemalan clan protects the rain forest. The Loch Ness clan protects the Loch Ness Monster, the Manhattan, London and Ishimura clan naturally protects New York City, London and Ishimura respectively. And the Avalon clan protects Avalon while the Labyrinth clan presently protect the homeless of New York.
1. So what does the New Olympus clan protect? Mount Thanatos? The whole of New Olympus? Or have they abandoned their duty much like the London clan when they lost Griff(since you did say they were isolationists)?
2.What does the Pukhan and Xanadu clans protect?
3.What exactly do New Camelot and New Wyvern clans protect?
4.What abou the Queen Florence Island Clan(after they've been freed from their stasis)?
5.What about the Notre Dame Clan?
1. I think they have become too insular. It's something I would have made an issue of, given the chance.
2. Pukhan Clan is more interested in protecting their concept of justice. Xanadu Clan protects the endangered Gargoyle Beast species.
3. New Wyvern is very traditionalist. So they protect Wyvern and it's surroundings. By contrast, New Camelot is very internationalist.
4 & 5. Haven't gotten that far in my thinking yet, but at the least they'll protect the Island and Paris, respectively.
How many gargoyle clans were there when the show was ended?
Do any of the other Avalon gargoyles join Angelia in the real world?
1. In 1996, the following clans were extant (although some were far from healthy in numbers):
Avalon
Ishimura
Labyrinth
Loch Ness
London
Manhattan
Mayan
New Olympian
Pukhan
Xanadu
2. Eventually, others would visit. But I don't immediately see anyone else taking up permanent residence outside Avalon.
Is Xanadu the city from the Coelridge poem?
City?
When did you decide there were gargoyles living in New Olympus and Loch Ness?
When did you decide there were gargoyles in Xanadu and Pukhan?
When did you decide that there was going to be a gargoyle clan in New Camelot?
When did you decide that Paris, Queen Florence Island and Wyvern were the sites of future clans?

We know that the gargs in China have contributed to the dragon legends there did any gargoyle beasts contribute to it considering some of them like the one in Ishimura looked very much like dragons?
You don't know that at all, though it's a reasonable assumption, as is your one about the beasts.
Thanks to matt and Phil we know that gargoyles in China are dragons so my question is were they the only source that inspired the Chinese dragon legends cause the dragons of Chinese legend are more like the Children of Oberon than gargoyles since they were worshipped as gods of the seas, capable of changing shape and underlings of the Chinese gods?
You've overstated what you learned from matt and Phil.
We now know what the gargoyles in the the Loch Ness and Chinese clans look like care to tell us what the gargoyles in the Korean and New Olympus clans look like?
Large chipmunks.
And by the way, you don't know what you think you know. You just have a better idea.
looking over the 2198 contest, I saw this frase wich caught my attention: "Fu-Dog is a gargoyle beast bred by the Xanadu Clan in China", it only caught my attention because I've seen in the comment room that there's a gargoyle clan that breeds garg beast, so my questions are:
1) Does the Xanadu Clan breed gargoyle beasts?
2) If they do, is there a specific reason for it, what I mean is do they have a specific job for those gargoyle beasts?
3) or is it that they have by chance a large number of gargoyle beasts?
Thank you for hearing me out
1. Yes.
2. They are protecting that species from extinction. And training them as companions and guardians.
3. Not by chance.
