Hello,
I'm new here, and this is my third question. I want to just say hello to you Greg, and to say good luck towards the future hope of new Gargoyle shows. (Though I know getting new ones to air is going to be difficult. But If you love this show as much as I do, I know you'll try to do something.) (And, If, or when you do, Greg, I would advize you to hire back those people that got fired, not to be rude or anything, but the animation in the Goliath Chronicles stank, horribly, and the story lines, though the morals were great, stank.)
Sorry about that, just had to voice my mind. Well, I'll just have to live with the present Gargoyle shows. But to get to the point I'd like to know if all the Gargoyle shows have been put on video. I know of two. I've omly seen one though, and it was missing a lot. If you don't have them all out, I, personally, think it would be a good idea to do so, detail for detail too.
:-)

Greg responds...

Way back when, the first season was released on video. We're expecting a DVD release of that same first season (but uncut) this coming fall/winter.

Whether or not the second (or even third seasons) are released will depend on sales of the first DVD, I'd imagine.

hello my name is Pete or as my friends call whitewolf. the question i was going to ask is that i have seen all the gargoyles shows on toon diseny and have there's a lot of deleted sceens and that i own the moive and there's a lot taking out why is it that in the show on t.v. is the whoole thing and not bits and pices? Oh one more thing well gargoyles be out on dvd soon.

Greg responds...

DVDs should be coming out this fall/winter.

Toon Disney makes edits based on their own Standards and Practices.

The video of the "movie version" of the pilot was edited down for our world premiere. Disney Home Video chose to use this edited piece rather than the full five-part pilot.

Hey Greg your the best, I got two questions.First i was wondering is toondisney airing all the gargoyle episodes that were fully created?Second is if not are any episodes available for sale that aren't shown on toondisney?

Greg responds...

Toon Disney, as I understand it, rarely airs "Deadly Force". That episode was available on one of the original VHS tapes that Buena Vista sold. It's not that easy to find anymore, but hopefully we'll have a DVD coming out this year...

i have only one real important question...and that is, when will the entire gargoyles series (season 1,2&3) finally be available to purchase on DVD. and i'm hoping it's packed with extra goodies like possible drawing outtakes, behind the scenes, animation reels and much, much more?!?

Greg responds...

Season One is supposed to be released sometime in the fourth quarter of 2004. My guess is that other seasons will ONLY get a release if the sales on Season One merit that release.

Is there anywhere I can find the episodes of gargoyles on DVD?

Greg responds...

Not yet. But look for them in 2004.

Do you Have the gargpyles movie (with the journeys and adventure until they are accepted by the people in NYC)out on video. email me at blangford@oasisonline.com

Greg responds...

As I've stated many times, I do not respond directly to people's e-mail addresses. That could easily get out of control and would largely defeat the purpose of this forum.

To answer your question, here, is difficult, only because your question is fairly unclear.

The first season of Gargoyles was released on video years ago. Those videos can be difficult to find now, but they're out there. The second season and the Goliath Chronicles has never been released.

Disney Home Entertainment is planning to release the first season again on DVD in 2004. Subsequent releases will obviously depend on the success of this first DVD release.

Not a question- just a comment:

I saw a notice on SciFi.com that the latest Starship Troopers DVD was coming out (February). I took a look at it and the other three on Amazon.com. They are a fangirl's ideal! Episodes + lots of comentary (from recognizable names :) + behind the scenes. Now if I could only afford them... oh well, next career.

Still, somebody must be in a profitable profession. If "Amazon.com sale rank" means what I think it does two of the DVDs are among the ~50 and ~60 most common ordered things today. (or were in February)

Between that and noticing Disney has put a little link next to some of the Gargoyles tapes to say "I'd love to see this in DVD form" I think things bode well for a DVD release here too.

Greg responds...

Things bode very well, as the DVDs are scheduled to be released in 2004 to coincide with the series tenth anniversary.

And I think those Starship DVDs turned out great. I highly recommend them. (And I get no financial benefit from doing so.)

Dear Mr. Weisman,

While Disney would never sell the rights to Gargoyles (not that I would want them to anyway), would they potentially sell the DVD rights? The majority of anime titles end up on DVD due to companies buying the DVD rights. While Gargoyles is not a foreign property, there is precedence for this occuring with North American releases as well. For instance ADV aquired the rights and subsequently released Season 3 of Mainframe's Reboot on DVD. Thus, would it be possible to convince another company of the value of Gargoyles that would in turn buy rights for a period of time from Disney to put the series on DVD? It looks to me like it would be a good situation for Disney since they would get money out of the deal (and potentially a cut of the gross, etc.) and they still retain the rights to Gargoyles.

Greg responds...

This is highly unlikely... and hopefully unnecessary, as Disney Home Entertainment is planning to release the first season of Gargoyles on DVD in 2004. Release of subsequent seasons are obviously dependent on the sales of the first DVD release.

I am a Gargoyle fan... This site reminds me of my childhood when I used to watch gargoyle on TV after school.
Do you know any way I can watch them again? I mean the whole series...
Thank you.

Greg responds...

Toon Disney, for now.

Otherwise, hold tight for the DVDs. The first season is supposed to come out next year to conincide with the series tenth anniversary. Other seasons will follow depending on sales.

Or if you're really impatient, you can contact the fans and see if someone will make copies for you.

Who-hoo! An update, thanks Greg!
Onto the questions:
1) Will we ever see the Gargoyles episodes collected onto DVD? I would love to own the collection and think that it could possibly lead to more Gargoyles toons, as a Direct to Video thing maybe?
2) What projects are you currently working on?
3) As an aspiring cartoon creator can you give my any advice on who to contact or how to break in to the business?

Thanks!

Greg responds...

1. Disney tells me that the DVD of the first season will be released sometime in 2004 to coincide with the series' tenth anniversary. Further releases will obviously depend on the sales of the first release.

2. I'm in development on a number of potential projects, but nothing definite. My current paying gig is for Platinum Studios, where I'm writing a bible for their entire Universe.

3. Where do I start? How about referring you to the "Animation" achive here at ASK GREG, where I've answered this question before.
