I don't know if you have any interest in action figures at all but... Is it annoying to you that the 6 inch line of Mattel's Young Justice figures got cancelled without anyone getting a Ms. Martian figure? 'Cause, to me, this is maddening, ridiculous and inexcusable. Could you guys send Lobo to visit Matty and hash this out?
Well, since you wrote this, Mattel offered the opportunity to get Miss Martian and Superboy (in his standard costume) in the six inch size via pre-order. Unfortunately, they didn't get enough pre-orders to justify it, so they cancelled the offer. I was pretty bummed, actually. But the fans spoke to their disinterest in the product at that price-point, so there's not much for me to get all Loboish about.
batman shows up all the time in the mount justice
martin manhunters there pretty often too
do green arrow flasha nd superman ever just drop by to check up on there sidekicks?
Flash is more likely to see Kid Flash back in Central City. And as you've seen, Artemis and Green Arrow have regular outings in Star City. But both stop by occasionally. Superman, during Season One, didn't view Superboy as a sidekick.
Ok, my question is about the "death rules" in your shows, AKA the conditions under which you could kill a character off (for example, you said in your Gargoyles' rambles that you could show Othello and Desdemona in "City of Stone, Part 1" because A)the audience already knew they were dead and B)it already knew they'd be back as Coldstone, otherwise you couldn't have personalized the victims of the massacre; you also said that, even though you killed off the Magus in "Avalon, Part 3", you couldn't actually say outloud that he was dead).
So, the question is: under which conditions you could actually kill a character off in Gargoyles, W.I.T.C.H. and Young Justice?
(Ok, fine, I suppose it counts as three questions)
Well, you seem to have already answered your own question vis-a-vis Gargoyles. And I'm not going to reveal anything along these lines for Young Justice.
That just leaves W.I.T.C.H. And I can't remember killing off anyone in W.I.T.C.H. Though we had characters who were already dead.
I wanted to know if Rocket kissed Aqualad on the cheek as a friend or was that the start of there relationship? Personally I hope Aqualad keeps his head clear because being a leader of a team is already enough to worry about. For example Batman has always been solo and he knows its dangerous to be in a relationship because your putting that person your with a risk.
My second question is how old would you say these new teen superheroes your introducing Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl, Lagoon Boy are they all around the same age as the Young Justice team 16-17?
1. Rocket's clearly attracted to Aqualad. Anything beyond that is a SPOILER REQUEST.
2. They range from thirteen (Beast Boy) to twenty (Bumblebee).
Keeping in mind that the first series was set in 2010,
1) What year did Savage start recruiting for the Light?
2) What year the Light fully come togeth (when L-7 joined)
3) What year did Jade leave home?
4) How many years ago was Savage attacked by that bear that scared him?
5) What year was the Justice Leage formed?
Keeping in mind that I've never confirmed 2010 and don't consider the first season to be set in 2010...
1. After the League was publicly announced.
2. Shortly after Savage extended invitations.
3. When Artemis was nine, and Jade was 13.
4. About 50,000 years ago, give or take 20 or so.
5. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Not sure if this is a spoiler request, if so please disregard...
My qyestion is about "Agendas"...what was the Leauge's decision on age for membership...chronology, biology, or simething as simple as legality - the age of aduthood where that person is from?
For instance, Gipsi is a nomad who isnt under one juristiction..how would you catagorize her (I tried to think of a character that I assume you are not going to use...Im not asking if she is GOING to be in the Leauge...just if it were possible under the rules you set).
1. First and foremost, the decision was to take things on a case-by-case basis. Since, living in the world that they do, there are always going to be exceptions. But generally, they decided on the biological/chronological age of 18 as the cut-off.
In the episode when m'gann, wally and superboy go to the halloween party thing, Superboy's logo is showing on his shirt. Was this a mistake, or just there like that?
Just there. He learned on his first day of school that it's no big deal to have a Superman t-shirt.
1)Since Superboy is only half-Kryptonian, is he less vulnerable to Kryptonite than Superman?
2)Speaking of Kryptonite, how rare it is on Earth-16?
1. There's been no scientific study.
2. Rare.
Hi Greg. I just wanted to say that I know how frustrating it can be working on a show that draws from so many years of comic book mythology and has so many diehard fans. You can't please everyone and those who are not pleased seem to be the most vocal. That being said... Young Justice is AMAZING. You have managed to make so many characters in the DC Universe (or is that Nation?) that I once thought of as superfluous or one-dimensional... utterly fascinating. Auld Acquaintance was an amazing ending for the first season and I can not wait for Young Justice Invasion. As I said, I know some people aren't pleased with things like Zatanna being young enough to be on the Team , the addition of Icon and Rocket or there being 3 Green Lanterns on Earth simultaneously, etc. But DC (like Marvel) exists in a Multiverse and this is YOUR reality. The rest of us are lucky enough to get a peek at it. So... get on board or get out of the way!
Thanks. Maybe that should be my new catchphrase: Get on board or get out of the way! (Yeah, I'm sure THAT would go over big.)
My question is about Aquaman...now I have never been oneof those "Aquaman's powers are lame" guys (in fact I contantly chastise my nephew for saying so), and I have been an avid advocate of not giving him the old Superfriends "water bolt" power in the comics...simply because it didnt make any sence given what was already estabolished about the charicter & Atlantis
My question is...why havent you given him this power in your show...now it seems to make less sence not to. If some or most Atlantians can use "hard water" magic, why cant he know just that one "trick," so to speak?
He's not a sorceror, and you have to be one to some extent at least to have that power.
In REvelation, when Artemis said "I feel naked, and not in a fun way." what did that mean exactly? Oh, and in Bereft, when Kid Flash woke Artemis up, he said something about a 10 foot thing. What was that supposed to mean?
1. It's not fun to have no weapons in the middle of a fight.
2. There's an expression, "I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole."
Anything beyond that is known as a double entendre - something that works best in the eye of the beholder.
First off, I dearly love the show; I've stuck with it ever since January of last year, and I'm really glad I did! Liking the characterizations, the shoutouts and in-jokes and other little details put in there to show that, yeah, you and your guys think about all of this and enjoy your work. And I gotta say that my favorite ship is Wally and Artemis, so I'm pleased with developments there and looking forward to seeing where it goes!
But this is a question site, and I do have some serious questions, mostly on Zeta-Beams, the Watchtower and other Space Tech, being a big space and sci-fi geek:
1. First off, who invented the Zeta-beam tech that's so omnipresent in the series? Is it a native Earth development or an alien import?
1a. After invention comes development: who built the Zeta-beam network (almost certainly WayneCorp, but just checking)?
2. Since there's a usable and practical teleportation system available in the setting, is there any non-hero use of the system (or potential plans to open the system to civilian use)? If not, is there some aspect to the system (like high energy costs) that makes it cost-prohibitive on a mass scale? Or does the Justice League prefer to keep the competitive advantage to themselves?
3. Next up, the Watchtower; gotta start with the basics here: How do people--especially Earth-based astronomers--*miss* seeing an orbiting station the size of a major office building?
4. Assuming that they don't miss it, that argues that the Watchtower isn't alone up there; has Earth-16 started developing a space industry (like we're doing now, with the new company Planetary Resources) with space stations, asteroid mining, solar energy stations, etc.?
4a. And given that energy costs for launchers are the primary prohibiting factors in orbital development and that there are many heroes capable of orbital lifts (Superman, Capt. Marvel, the Green Lanterns, just for starters), has NASA and other organizations and companies asked them for help in getting things to orbit? (Several millions dollars for a one-use rocket that could explode if someone did the math just a little bit wrong, or a nice but smaller check for the Justice League... hmm... decisions, decisions... :) )
And that's it for my questions; I want to say thanks to you for taking the time to look them over and maybe answer them (I recognize that they're a bit oddball compared to your usual fare :D )
1. On Earth, it was discovered initially by Dr. Erdel.
1a. STAR LABS in concert with the Justice League with a grant from the Wayne Foundation.
2. No. Not at this time.
2a. Yes. Also it's extremely dangerous to have multiple networks going.
2b. And that too, at least for now.
3. Cloaking tech courtesy of the base's previous owner: the GLC.
4. No.
4a. No.
Hi, Greg. I have two hopefully-non-spoiler questions for you regarding Zatanna:
(1) Is she a vegetarian on Earth-16?
(2) Is she or has she considered becoming a Dianic Wiccan on Earth-16?
I'm mainly curious because these were two relatively small, but still meaningful aspects of her character in the comics that I thought would be interesting if they carried over into a story of her teenage years.
As of the end of Season One:
1. It seems not, since she helped prepare the turkey. But maybe she didn't partake?
2. No.
I will try to keep this from becoming a spoiler-asking question, hopefully! Though due in part to the⦠specificity, I donât know how successful this will be.
You mentioned before that there was undoubtedly going to be (at least one) lgbt character on the show. I wonât ask who, as spoilers, but I guess thatâ"the ending of the first season really threw me, in a sad way. A sudden parade of heteronormativity at the end of a show season where I had a lot of hope that there might be an lgbt relationship acknowledged by the writing hit pretty hard!
I know that one person does not control all the creative decisions of a tv production by themself, but I guess I wondered if a canonically acknowledged lgbt character was still a thing that WILL happen. Because it is well and good to say âundoubtedly they exist,â but ultimately never acknowledging that within the show does lgbt kids no good! Because saying something like, âobviously chances are someone on the team is lgbt,â is actually really meaningless to us lgbt people if that part of their identity is never shown or confirmed. It just continues to make us invisible in the mainstream media (particularly kidâs media) while still playing up having some diversity, and that does hurt.
Okay, I'm pretty sure I NEVER said we were going to acknowledge an lgbt relationship on the show. I'm quite certain that we would not be allowed to on television. NOT ALLOWED. I don't know where you got any other idea. I've been pretty consistent about how I FEEL about this. I think it's cowardly. But I've also admitted that I'm complicit in that cowardice, as I know that if I insisted on bravery - and remained adamant - I would at best be overruled and at worst FIRED. And I need my job. I'm not proud of this, and I'm not happy about it. But that's the current situation. I imagine it does hurt, and I wish I could ameliorate that pain. But at this point in time, I cannot. I'm sorry.
Instead, what I've tried to do is write the characters consistently in the hope that someday things change and that some subtleties put in place now will help in their own small way to inch us forward. I also hope to have more freedom in the YJ companion comic, as comics have a history of being more progressive in this area. But we'll have to see. I'm afraid that for now, that's the best I can do.
Sportsmaster is sometimes credited as Crusher Crock, but his wife calls him Lawrence.
1. Does anyone other than Paula call him Lawrence?
2. Which one does he prefer?
3. Has he ever gone by just Larry?
1. Various parole officers?
2. Crusher.
3. Ever? Maybe.
Hi Greg, My brothers and I love young justice, its probably one of our favorite shows right now, so thank you very much for making it.
We were wondering, why does Robin have a black and red costume like Tim Drake, and not his usual Red and Green costume? I saw a preview poster from a while back and his sleeves and pants were green, i don't know if that was just fan made, but I would really like to know. Thank You so much for your time. :)
These were decisions made mostly by Brandon Vietti and Phil Bourassa. You'd have to ask them.
Hey Greg. I have a few questions about Young Justice which is an amazing show.
1.Is Superboy affected less by Kryptonite because of his human DNA?since Superman passed out in Auld aquiantance when Robin brought out Kryptonite but Superboy didn't.
2. Does Miss Martian have any extra white Martian abilities that Green Martians don't have?
3. Is it true that Martians age slower than humans because of Mars' distance from the sun?If this is true, are Miss Martian or Martian Manhunter affected in any way when on earth?
4. Since Sportsmaster was defeated by Artemis in Usual suspects, will he be sent to Belle Reve?
1. Both were equally effected, but before Robin put the kryptonite away, he put a Cure-Tech chip on Superman's neck. That's what caused Superman to pass out.
2. There are no differences in abilities between Green and White Martians.
3. No.
4. It's somewhat moot by the beginning of Season Two, five years later.
1) Was it mandated that Blue Beetle had to appear in season 2?
2) Why did you pick Lagoon Boy over Garth as a Team member/ally?
1. No.
2. Our feeling was that organically, Garth would have joined and left the Team, all within the five year gap.
A couple of questions on Qurac and Bialya
* I noticed on the map in Image, they look like Syria and Iraq. was this deliberate?
* Are they Arabian or North African countries?
* I've seen Dhabar in a comic once, but not Al-Qawiya. Was it always Bialya's capital, or did you make it up? What does it mean?
1. No.
2. Both.
3. Both names came from DC's oeuvre. I don't know what - if anything - it means.
Great job on the season finale! There's some imagery there that'll give me nightmares for a while yet... I have a question about Roy and the wonderful Mr. Crispin Freeman, who was a really great choice to play a really great role.
1. Was Crispin Freeman told about Roy's role in the plot? Did he know from the first episode that Roy was both the mole and a clone, or was that reveal kept from him until the relevant episodes were recorded?
1. Honestly, I don't remember. It'd be a good question to ask Crispin. (Is there an ASK CRISPIN somewhere? Cuz if not, there should be.)
what was carlos brothers name in performance, and who playd him and carlo?
We never named Carlo's brother, I'm afraid.
I'm fairly certain that Nolan North played them both. But my Season One scripts are boxed, and I can't check to make sure.
Hey Greg, loving Young Justice so far, so keep up the good work! I just had a few questions in mind that I hope aren't simply in the annoying "no comment" territory as they mostly pertain to the choices you and others involved have made as opposed to just spoilers.
1. Was there ever discussion to use Tim Drake or Jason Todd instead of Dick Grayson for Robin? Personally, Grayson is my favorite, but I'm a huge fan of how you've incorporated some Drake-traits into him. This is probably my favorite incarnation of the character in any medium that I've seen!
2. I LOVE the inclusion of the ranking system for the teams. Who decided on which people should be ranked above others (outside of the obvious Superman-1, Batman-2, etc)? Was that a subject that caused a lot of debate amongst the writers?
3. I'm curious...I can see why Vandal Savage, Ra's al Ghul, and Lex Luthor are in The Light, but why the others? Queen Bee seems to be getting quite a bit of screen time for someone a little out of the mainstream. Was the choice of using people like her, Brain, Sportsmaster, and others that are frequently showcased just a matter of the writers/producers really liking those characters or is there a plan set in motion?
4. What was the design process of Riddler like? His look is quite different in some ways than what I was expecting.
Thanks in advance. I'm really looking forward to Invasion and what comes after that as well!
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED. (And what hasn't been answered is a SPOILER.)
2. It's not a ranking system. Designations are based on the order of entry into either the League or the Team, etc. So, no, no debate. Cause it's objective not subjective.
3. Both, probably.
4. Same as with all our characters. Brandon, Phil and I talk. Phil comes up with something brilliant. We either love it instantly or ask for a few minor tweaks, and then it goes to final.
On the team right now who is the best hand to hand fighter? 2. What's Wonder Woman's relationship like with her immediate and biological family? 3. Does Superboy know anything about Krypton? 4. Artemis grandparents were they good people or were they similar to her parents? 5. Back when the team was in Biyala the Light mentioned they had a new partner does this mean their new partner was joining the group of seven or did it mean they have a new business associate
As of the end of Season One...
1. Probably Robin, I guess, if you're being a purist. But if you take weapons and powers into account, I'd say Aqualad. And Artemis is no slouch either. But they're all learning... thanks to Black Canary.
2. Whom did you have in mind? (You know, that isn't a backdoor spoiler request.)
3. Not much.
4. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
5. The latter.
Do Martians have to consume physical food? i am curious because
1. telepathy is the main form of communication therefore they rarely need to open their mouths
2. in TARGETS M'gann took a bag lunch with her to school
Yes.
Since Klarion is a L.O.C on Earth-16 does that mean-
1. he is not from the WitchWorld ?
2. he cannot be killed, only banished back to his home dimension ?
3. he did NOT turn his parents into mice and feed them to Teekl ?
1. All things are true.
2. Well at any rate, he can't be contained.
3. No promises.
