SPOILER NASTINESS
Hello,
I've given the ASK GREG moderators permission to DELETE any question that refers to or spoils episodes of Young Justice that have NOT YET AIRED in the United States.
Personally, I think it's bad enough folks are spoiling things FOR THEMSELVES, when they will soon be able to see the episodes in English and at a decent quality within a matter of a few short weeks. (And the blame-Cartoon-Network excuse holds ZERO water for me, as these people are still CHOOSING to view episodes ahead of schedule. No one is holding a gun to their heads.) But the fact that they are spoiling things for folks who are trying NOT to get spoiled is just outrageously obnoxious.
I'd like the ASK GREG queue to be a safe place. I NEED people to be able to read the queue to see if someone ahead of them has already asked the question they're intending to ask. In fact, I've pretty much DEMANDED that people check the queue before asking a question, so forcing them to check something that will spoil their enjoyment of the series is flat out unfair.
Thus the deletions.
And this is all beside the fact that asking a question HERE at ASK GREG to get an explanation of something in an episode that wasn't understood because it was not in English is, well, IDIOTIC. At the length of the current queue, it'll be months before I get to these questions, and the episodes will air here in the U.S. in a matter of weeks. So by the time I get to these questions, the answers will no longer be required - so all that is really being accomplished is that folks have found yet another way to bog down the queue. In fact, this practice is SO idiotic, I'm having trouble believing the questions are being asked with any sincerity. It seems more like a demonstration of power. Trolling, pure and simple.
Either way - whether this is due to naivete or trolling - please just STOP. Please.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday, March 17th) Cartoon Network airs YOUNG JUSTICE episode 21, "Image". It also repeats on Sunday morning. (Check local listings for time.) You should really check it out. Big doings, trust me!
Also, Brandon Vietti and I will be at WonderCon in Anaheim tomorrow. We have a signing at the DC Booth at 4pm and a DC NATION panel at 5pm. Major SPOILERS happening at the panel. And I KNOW how much you crazy kids love spoilers. So stop by!

What inspire you to make a new character like Aqualad; in addition, how was he overall fit in the DC universe in your perspective?

"Well, there were many inspirations. Cal Durham, obviously, but also the Arion series which demonstrated that not all Atlanteans are Caucasian. There was the need for further diversity in the series. And the fact that Garth was dead in the comics (at least for now) and had, in any case, left the name 'Aqualad' behind to become 'Tempest'. So it felt like the name 'Aqualad' was up for grabs. We liked the parallel universe notion of the Road Not Taken for the two characters, leading to an Aqualad /Tempest team-up. It all just seemed... right."

"Our Aqualad, i.e. Kaldur'ahm, was completely created and designed BEFORE Geoff started in his new (now not-so-new) position at DC. So our version of his backstory and wardrobe, etc., all pre-existed Geoff's involvement. The version that he went on to put into DC's main universe, i.e. Jackson Hyde, was completely HIS adaptation of Kaldur (with help from an artist whose name I'm unfortunately blanking on at this moment). And we had NO involvement with that version at all, beyond providing Kaldur as inspiration and providing EXPLANATION of how his Water-Bearers work. The only element we really collaborated on was the identity of both versions' father."

"I'm very ambivalent toward fanfiction. On the one hand, it's very gratifying. I've created something that has taken on a life of it's own. That people like enough to invest their time into and create anew. On the other hand, I have a territorial instinct that exhibits a kind of knee-jerk negative reaction to seeing other people controlling the destiny of my characters. (That's the main reason why Goliath Chronicles was so painful for me to watch.)
For example, I know that TGS is doing their own TimeDancer spin off. That's very cool, but somebody mentioned (though I don't know if this was the final word) that they're not naming Brooklyn's son Nashville, because they think the name is silly or because they hate country music or whatever. I can't help resenting that. (I know it's not rational, but I'm trying to be honest about my emotions here.) I haven't explained the Nashville name. I don't intend to explain it yet. Obviously, I have no intention of making Brooklyn into the next Garth Brooks, but I'm not in the mood to go into my reasons yet. But when someone else decides that GREG THE GARGOYLE MASTER made a misstep regarding the name of a character, I bristle.
But going back to the first hand, I have to acknowledge that once a thing is created and sent out into the world, it no longer belongs to the creator, but to the interpretations of those who received it. If a fan believes that Gargoyles were created by fey sorcery, then to that fan they were, no matter what I might say to the contrary in a comment room. Fanfiction is the ultimate example of fans interpretating (and extrapolating upon) what they've seen."

Episode 20 of YOUNG JUSTICE, i.e. "Coldhearted" airs tomorrow (Saturday, March 10th) on Cartoon Network and repeats on Sunday. Check local cable guides for times.
Please do check it out. It puts the spotlight on Kid Flash, and I think it turned out great.
