Why Quit Kid Flash the Hero life
RESPONSE SPOILER. COMMENT NO.
Issue 23 was awesome! I really liked the new depth that was giving to La'gann's and M'gann's relationship
Thanks.
Why doesn't Superboy have any mirrors?
He doesn't want any.
Just dropping by to say that the latest comic issue was aweseome. It was nice to see Tim again. And the character development with La'gaan and M'gann in the bioship had me squealing like a mad pig- and I got a big laugh out of it afterwards when my friends reacted to the scene by basically saying "Wait, he's actually capable of not being a jerk?". I hope to see more of such development in the show itself. And Barbara... you've just reminded me why I love the character so much. Great job.
Thanks. I'm really quite proud of the Players arc in the comic. And Chris and Zac's work has just been stellar.
Wasn't it a bit hypocritical of M'gann to talk about not "focusing on parties" when she was going to a bridal shower, of all things?
It's called irony.
1. Before Impulse left, it was raining ash, but after he left, it wasn't raining ash, and Happy Harbor looked slightly larger. Was this intentional?
2. I know Crash and Mode are Reach terms, but what do they mean? Like, is Crash synonymous to Cool, and Mode/moded similar to Defeated?
1. Happy Harbor looks larger? I didn't notice that at all. As for the rest of your question, it's a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED - in both the show and here at ASK GREG.
Hey Greg!
I started watching Young Justice this summer and can't get enough of it! I've never had cable tv, so I don't watch many shows, but this is the first show that I've been able to say I keep up with regularly. I particularly love the spinoff series, Black Manta's Celebrity Hot tub, and think that CN really should give it another chance. I hope that maybe someday fans will be able to rejoice upon seeing the likes of Lex Luthor, The Joker, or Queen Bee enter that fabled hot tub.
A few questions:
1. Is Beast Boy's hair black or green? The reason I ask is because in the show, it's black, but in the comics and promotional material, it's a slightly darker shade of green than his skin.
2. If Mrs. Martian didn't get woken up by Martian Manhunter in Failsafe, and died by the same beams the other members "died" from, would she herself slip into a coma?
3. I hope I'm not asking something with an obvious answer, but what was Artemis doing during Image? I was rewatching it the other day and noticed she didn't go with the team to Qurac.
4. It's totally fine if this isn't answered, I didn't exactly expect it to, but what's Gar's birthday? Dc has never given him a birth date in the comics and I was just curious. Hope it isn't a spoiler request.
1. I think it's dark green in all of the above.
2. We'll never know.
3. Does it matter? Anyway, hopefully I'll get to tell that story some day.
4. I generally don't give characters birthdates unless it matters in a specific story.
Hi, Greg. I have some questions.
1. Why was Icon erased from the cover and/or erased from the Issues 21 and 23?
1a. You said it wasn't you who erased him. Who was it, and why?
2. Are Icon and Rocket not going to be in the show anymore?
1. I honestly don't know. I was not given an explanation.
1a. The folks at DC.
1b. ASKED AND ANSWERED. (You know, up in question one. Seriously, why are you asking me the same question twice in the same post?)
2. They are and will continue to be in the television series.
1. How old is Catherine Cobert?
2. When was the android T. O. Morrow created?
3. How old is Lucius Fox?
4. How old is Perry White?
5. How old is Kevin Blankly?
1. At the end of Season One, she was 28.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. At the end of Season One, he was 52.
4. Don't know yet.
5. More dead than old.
I just wanna let you and BV know that I'm totally in love you YJ. The hiatus are like being on redrawls and watching reruns is like feeding on scraps from the bin. I ACHE with these longs waits and I can tell you right now I'm going to CRY if yj gets cancelled. Is there still hope?
Stay strong. We're back January 5th.
Why is Brainiac called the Collector of Worlds and not Brainiac?
Are you asking for an In-Universe answer or a behind-the-scenes answer?
What's the best way to support Young Justice, you ask?
BUY THE MERCHANDISE!!! That's right, buy our YJ companion comic (in electronic or print editions). (The advantage there is that you get the bonus of more story and character!)
And buy the Young Justice T-Shirt, currently being offered for sale by Hot Topic:
I've already purchased three myself. (That's right; I don't get 'em for free.) One for me, and one each for my genomorphs. So I've done my part!! Have you done yours?
OH, AND HELP SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
Well, I've finally caught up and cleaned out the ASK GREG queue. We'll plan to reopen the site- at least briefly - when Young Justice: Invasion #23 hits the stands later this month. Then again, when DC Nation starts up with new Young Justice: Invasion episodes on January 5th, 2013.
I'm looking forward to reading your responses to the new issues and episodes - and to Black Manta's Celebrity Hot Tub. (If there seems to be a demand, I might be tempted to write more of the latter for this site.)
But right now... I'm going to take a short break.
Who were the two characters you wanted to include in the bridal shower scene in Satisfaction?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO RESPONSE.
When Kid Flash, or Flash are running places, how do they know if they are going in the right direction? When Impulse was running across states, how would he know what state he's in? Like right now if someone told me to run to New York, New York, and I know it's South, & 6 hours by car, Maybe I could find it, cuz it's so iconic, and…a straight line from where I am. But if I had to find the Yukon, (In Canada…It's hard enough to find on a map) or North Carolina, I wouldn't. So how do they know where they are going without directions/GPS. Have they memorized the layout of the whole country? Stop & read signs? Do they have to take main roads to find where they want to go?
-Can Wally run across water?
- Could he do it carrying someone, or would their ears explode?
- Can Superman run across water?
1. Yes to all of the above, probably.
2. If he's built up a big enough head of steam.
3. I would think so.
4. Run? No. But he can fly across it.
Hello Greg.
I've noticed from both your work in Gargoyles, & Young justice that it seems very hard to affect the future by changing the past. It would seem that time travel can affect events, but not people? Like When Goliath went back in time and tried to talk with Demona, but when she woke up in their own timeline, was unchanged. Same with Impulse, he tried/continues to try to change his future, but somehow Nate still remembers what it was like before?
- Would everyone remember the difference in Barts timeline?
- How does Nate remember Bart, if they both said he would never be back to his time line, & so it stuck in the past?...So would then have never met ?
1. No.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Hello!
Logically Artemis would have had to begin training, or step it up before her death in March.
- How long did she have to decide, & then begin training again?
- When she did decide to go undercover, how/why did she decide on her new weapons? She couldn't just stick to archery, that's a given. So what make her pick her equipment?
-Did she train with Wally, or Dick before their façade took place?
-How many days (weeks?) did Artemis wait before she told Wally?
- What if she said no?
-What month is Artemis's Birthday?
1. You're assuming she EVER stopped training.
2. She's proficient in all the weapons that Tigress uses.
3. To a certain extent, although their regimens are very different.
4. I assume she's trained with Dick on and off for years, but again, see the answer to question one.
5. Tell him what?
6. I'm lost. No to what?
7. I haven't decided. Maybe she should be a Sagittarius.
has robin ever kissed Zatanna well i mean he leaned in first? because we have scene zatanna kiss robin 3 times, but not vice versa.
Over the years? Yes.
Is Happy Harbor's harbor(or haven) an artificicial one or a natural one? I also ask the same question about Bludhaven's harbor as well.
P.s If you don't know. Then I don't mind.
P.p.s Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer my "lucky stiff" question.
1. Yes.
1a. I assume so, but I don't know.
Stanford is one of the most expensive universities in the country. How are Wally and Artemis paying for it plus their apartment?
Stanford also offers needs-blind admission. If you can get in, they'll figure out financial aid for you after the fact.
Assuming Sportsmaster knew about about Wally and Artemis's relationship judging from the scene at the cemetery in "Satisfaction," would you mind telling us how he heard about it and how he feels about it?
1. Yes, I mind. Sorry.
2. I think you can guess.
After season one, I figured Roy's serious personality might have been influenced by his programming. After seeing the original Roy, it is clear Roy has always been like that. Since Jim Harper is also a clone of the original Roy, my first question is this:
1) What is the reason for the personality difference between The two Roys and Jim Harper?
2) Was Jim Harper programmed to be a different hero?
3) In Season one, Jim explained to Superboy that he was Roy's uncle. It seems that this was programmed into him. Was this programmed into Red Arrow? In other words, did Roy know about his "relation" to Jim?
4) If Jim Harper were to pick up a bow and arrow, would he be a good archer?
5) Was Aqualad the only person on the Team who would know where Roy was hiding in the final episode of Season one?
1. You see Roy after waking up from an eight year deep-freeze to find his arm amputated and a clone has taken over his life, and you think that gives you some indication of what he was like personality-wise back in the day? Seriously?
2. Well... yeah... (Is this a trick question?)
3. Yes.
4. Not without any training at all.
5. Do you mean before Aqualad found him there or after?
1) How did Aquaman find out about Kaldur's parentage?
2) How old was Kaldur when Calvin Durham assumed the role of his father? Assuming, of course, Aqualad was born.
3) When did Black Manta assume his villainous role? (This is like asking when did Clark Kent become Superman)
4) Do Black Manta's henchmen know his secret identity?
5) Does the Light know his secret identity?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. IS it like asking that? I'm not sure I agree.
4. What secret identity?
5. See above.
1) What is Black Manta's civilian name?
2) What is the reason for his animosity towards Aquaman?
3) Is there a reason why you gave Black Manta a sophisticated persona? He strikes me as a high class villain, like Luthor. In the comics, he just seems like an angry guy.
4) I gotta admit, Black Manta has a handsome face. Who takes credit for this design?
5) How close were Black Manta and Calvin Durham before Durham's defection?
1. I don't know.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. We played him the way he made sense to us to play him.
4. Phil Bourassa.
5. Close.
How old is the kid that resembles Stephanie Brown and the kid that looks like Virgil Hawkins in Before the Dawn?
I'm not sure who you're referring to. Someone who 'resembles Stephanie Brown'? Do you mean Stephanie Brown? If so, Stephanie Brown is twelve at the START of Season Two. I don't know how old she is by the time we introduced her: twelve or thirteen.
As for 'the kid that looks like Virgil Hawkins in Before the Dawn', I'm not sure why you think I'd have calculated an age for an incidental character just because he happens to look like someone from a previous cartoon show.
sorry about my earlier confusing question, if you remember it.
i checked the unanwered questions and the answered questions, and i can't believe no one has asked this yet.
1)Does anyone besides Roy, Jade, and Lian to an extent know of Roy and Jade's marriage? (I'm ask about if they know about Lian, but that seems too spoil alert - ish
2) Does Sportsmaster know that Roy is Lian's father?
3) When Roy Harper's parents died, why did he live with his uncle?
I'm really sorry if you already seen these questions, but i looked at the unanswered questions and the answered question, using any keywords that could lead up to them, and found that no questions were close to mine
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Uncle?
How old was Jason Todd when he died?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Dear Greg,
First, let me start off by saying that I think Young Justice is one of the best cartoons currently out there. It's so mature and epic and the animation and character design are amazing. I really wish CN would realize what a gem they've got and would start promoting the hell out of it (hm…maybe I should put that on my Christmas list).
For research purposes, I have two questions:
1.Did Young Justice team members who have homes outside of Mount Justice, like Dick, Wally and Artemis, have personal living quarters at Mount Justice as well?
2.Has Nightwing surpassed Black Canary in terms of fighting skills?
Thanks in advance!
1. They had places they could crash, and they kept changes of clothes there.
2. See, now, the Hulk is more powerful because the madder he gets, the stronger he gets. But the Thing can still beat him if he keeps his wits about him.
Dear Greg,
While I lament the fact that we're not going to see more of the delightful young Robin you created in YJ season 1 (because in my humble opinion, he's the best cartoon rendition of Dick Grayson's Robin ever: such an amazing character design, awesome personality and skills and perfect voice actor), I love seeing your version of Nightwing in Young Justice: Invasion. Again, awesome character design there and Jesse McCartney does a great job voicing him. Dick Grayson's obviously grown and matured, but there are still shades of season one's Dick Grayson that I really enjoy seeing. Though he certainly does seem to be becoming more like Batman in terms of the decisions and sacrifices he makes, I like that his leadership style seems more gentle and is geared towards positive reinforcement. He cares about his team and shows it.
Anyway, my question:
As team leader, why doesn't Nightwing go on so many missions anymore? I'm asking because Aqualad, when he was team leader in the first season, accompanied the Team on most missions, but Nightwing doesn't seem to based on what he said in Depths: "After a year of leading this team, I'm peckish for a little action". Is it because the Team's grown so big that most of the time he has to stay behind to coordinate? Because Mal seemed to be doing a good job of that in ep 201 Happy New Year... I'm just wondering because Dick Grayson's my favorite character and I'd love to see more of him. I hope we'll get to see more of Nightwing in action in the second half of the season.
Thanks for putting so much time and effort into interacting with fans!
Can't wait till January! ;)
There's a lot going on. As you've seen he goes on missions fairly often, but sometimes he needs to stay behind. And he rarely goes on 'routine' missions. But you should also keep in mind, that he obviously had ulterior motives for wanting to go on the Cape Canaveral mission - motives that he couldn't reveal, and so had to use misdirection to explain why he was going.
I'd like to ask a few YJ questions that I really hope don't come across the wrong way. They're just a few things I've noticed that may be errors/unclear (or just me being oblivious). Obviously I love the show and the comics, and think you and your team do a great job.
1) In "Bereft", Robin says the soldiers are of the Bialyan Republican Army, but Bialya is a monarchy. Is that an error or was Bialya formerly a republic (or something even more complicated)?
2) In "Common Denominators", after the Cultists abducted Dr. Burr, hitting Robin in the process, Batman asks Robin if he's okay. Robin responds "Feeling the aster. But fine." Shouldn't that be "Not feeling the aster. But fine." or am I misinterpreting 'aster'?
In "Depths", in the scene in the Cave at the end, we hear crying-in particular it sounds to me like male and female crying. Though it looks to me as though Raquel, and perhaps Karen, were crying none of the male characters appeared to be.
3a) Who was crying?
3b) In general, how do you write scenes like this, where you have a number of characters but only a few are seen up close and/or have lines? Does the script detail the reactions for each or is there just a general description of the group's reaction and the details are left to storyboarding/animation?
Can't wait for #23 and the return of the show. Thanks for your time.
1. Bialya is - in theory - a constitutional monarchy, with a democratically elected REPRESENTATIVE government. (Though in practice, it's a dictatorship.) Because of this, propaganda is used throughout Bialyan society, and names don't necessarily reflect truth.
2. No, you're right. That's an error. Robin must have been more addled than he realized.
3a. I think only M'gann is crying out loud. At least that's how it is in the script (and in my memory). But I don't have the finished episode handy to check.
3b. There's no set rule.
Why it took 5 years to find what happen in the missing 16 hours?
Why did it take 116 years to fight the Hundred Years' War?
Because that's how long it took.
Was there a time when Karen was keeping her Bumblebee alter-ego a secret from Mal? After all, their Cave designations seem to suggest that there was a bit of a gap between her joining and him getting involved with the Team.
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
But since their designations are in different categories, I don't think they "suggest" anything one way or another.
Does Beast Boy get on all right with Lagoon Boy? Gar seemed to want Conner and M'gann to get back together in "Earthlings", so I'm thinking that he doesn't like L'gaan...
They get along all right, but Gar is in need of consistency in his life. When he met M'gann and Conner they were a couple, so he's still rooting for them.
Why was Rocket omitted from issues #21 and #22 of the companion comic when she had been shown with Zatanna in issue #20, who appeared alongside her in that issue?
I have no comment at this time. Mostly because I honestly don't know why.
1) Did Batgirl know Jason Todd before he died?
2) Did Batgirl know any of the other three mystery Team members from the time skip?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. I'm not sure who you're defining as "mystery" and who you're not.
Is Superboy's birthday really the 21st of March or does he just pretend it is?
It is.
In season 1, M'gann was 48 years old but her age in human biology was 16. What is her age in human biology in season 2?
About 18, give or take.
Hi Greg,
I'm a big fan of the show and I had a brief question that hopefully does not delve into spoilers.
In the Mount Justice memorial grotto, is there any pattern to the size and location of the holograms relative to each other?
More specifically, are the holograms placed in the order they died? I'm not asking when anyone actually died, if that helps.
Thanks for your time!
No and no.
The sizes are all the same relatively, although perspective (and maybe some flawed animation) may occasionally make it look otherwise.
I've got a few questions... hope you don't mind.
1. In the episode Before The Dawn, you know the scene where Batgirl passes Bumblebee to Nightwing and said that he needed to make a fast exit? Yeah, is that really happening in the comics? Cause if it did, I'd like to read the issue.
2. When did Miss Martian started making people into catatonic states? I'm curious.
3. In the episode Homefront in season 1, was Barbara jealous? At least a little spark of Dick/Babs.
Oh, and representing some other authors and myself from FanFiction.Net who likes Nightwing and Batgirl, we are very thrilled that you made Batgirl hold Nightwing's hand. Just that scene, and we're jumping.
1. I don't know what you mean. It happened on screen. Obviously, you saw it. So...
2. On screen, during Season One.
3. Yes.
4. I honestly don't know what scene you're referring to.
Hi, I'd like to ask a few Wolf related questions, if I may.
In the wild gray wolves live for around 8-13 years (a bit more in captivity). Since Wolf appeared to be the leader of his pack in "Alpha Male" (the title being a hint!), that would suggest he was a fully grown adult (3+ years) at the time. That would mean Wolf would be physically quite old by Season Two, but he doesn't appear to have aged.
1) How old is Wolf?
2a) Does Wolf not show his age and/or have an extended lifespan as a result of the Brain's experiments on him?
2b) If yes, is the same true of humans or other animals enhanced with Kobra-Venom?
In this interview (http://www.aquamanshrine.com/2012/09/aquaman-shrine-interview-with-greg.html) you mentioned that Wolf was Earth-16's version of Krypto, and that you considered naming him Krypto. That would seem to imply there is no "real" Kryptonian Krypto. But in "Alpha Male", when KF suggested that name, M'gann said it was taken.
3) Is there a Krypto on Earth-16? If not, what was M'gann referring to?
4) Was Wolf linked into the telepathic simulation in "Failsafe", or was he just in the room?
Thanks for your time.
1. Well, by your own calculations, he's at least eight or nine - assuming we buy into your calculations.
2a. We'll have to wait and see.
2b. We'll have to wait and see.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3a. She didn't SAY it was taken, she ASKED if it was taken.
4. He was not linked.
Mr. Weisman,
In a previous answer you said M'gann gave Garfield his suit and that it is Martian, like her own.
1. Does that mean it can change its appearance like M'gann's clothing can?
2. If yes then can Garfield willingly change the look of his suit?
1. In theory, yes, but in practice, Gar doesn't have that kind of control over it. Miss Martian has basically pre-set it with two forms: his uniform and the collar version it reduces down to when he morphs into a beast.
2. He can change it back and forth from collar to uniform. That's all.
I have two questions about the T.O. Morrow:
1.How old was he when you created your android?
2.In 2016 he alive?
I have two questions about the hawks:
3. How old is Hawkman?
4. Why the name of Shayera is Shayera Thal, not Shayera Hol, since she is married with Kater Hol?
They have children, or protege?
Thanks for your time. I love YJ hopefully have a third and fourth season, and why not a fifth?
1. All this can be inferred by comparing his age to the ages of his androids. If you don't feel like looking up the ages here and doing the math, I recommend checking out the Young Justice wiki, where they have, in essence, done the work for you: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Young_Justice_Wiki
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. By the end of Season One, Hawkman was 39.
4. You're assuming the customs on Thanagar are the same as on Earth?
4a. They have no children, which I'm only answering because it's dead obvious.
4b. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
5. Why not?
1. For green lanterns in general, does the yellow/wood/beavers weakness where rings cannot effect certain things for unexplained reasons still apply?
2. Does the Young Justice comic have looser guidelines than what the cartoon possesses? I ask because a few people asked questions regarding things like character sexuality and you stated your general views on the matter but added that if you pushed these things to be included in the cartoon it would risk being pulled.
So do the same rules apply for both?
1. Beavers?
2. Yes. If anything, I'd say the comic seems a little stricter. But just a little.
Knowing that the Guardians of the Universe exist in Earth-16, how many of them are there?
I haven't counted. More than five, less than twenty.
Surely this would not be a spoiler question, but if it is, I apologize. When Garth and Tula joined the Team, did they wear their outfits from Downtime/ comic appearances, or something different?
They wore the outfits you've seen.
Hello Greg
Just had a few comments I would like to submit, given my love of both the YJ cartoon and the ongoing comic book series. Given the hiatus as of late on the cartoon, I love that I have the comics to tide me over, even more so that there are little instances in them that are unknown otherwise (at least so far) I really love the way the different issues intertwine with each other, as well as the television series. You can really tell all the thoughts and effort you and your team put into it.
As for the television series, I really do love it, though not every aspect of it. I must admit I am not overly fond of the portrayal of Kid Flash, though I am a very biased Flash-family fan. The voice acting is great and I love the animation, plus his characterization in Season One I adored. I just really don't understand why he was given such a short end of the stick power-wise. Again, this may be because I am a big fan of the comics, but it really seems that he was sold short here. I understand you do not like over-powered super heroes and I certainly can agree on that aspect.
However, Wally within the comic books achieved so much: overcoming his own personal emotional barriers, breaking through the limits that his mentor could not surpass, managing to make peace with some of the rogues and maintaining that superhero level while married and raising two kids. (I'll admit I'm partial to the comics where Wally outran death but that certainly falls into the overpowered scenerio)
It just seems like the Wally in Season Two has truly been left behind in the dust, particularily with the introduction of Impulse (though, I do love the way you have handled that character) As much as Bloodlines was an awesome episode, especially given my love of the Flash family, it is almost painful for me to watch. Wally's relationship with Barry is something that ran strong in the comics and I loved the references to it you made in the comics and the cartoon, though briefly. Comic Number 16 remains one of my favorites for this reason. This episode seemed to just rip that to shreds. I really felt for Wally, felt like he had been replaced, especially with Bart's "You don;t have the Allen family eyes." Though, this emotional response MAY have been the point but I digress.
However, none of your other projects have ever disappointed me and given the role that has been building up in Season Two, I am extremely interested in what Wally's involvement with Artemis and Kaldur/Dick's plan will turn out to be. He has not seemed to have much involvement thus far, aside from being connected to Artemis and I sincerely hope that changes but I shall wait patiently and see what twists and turns your team has planned.
That said though, I do like your team's handling of pretty much everyone else. Like I said, I admit to being Flash biased (and given Wally's extinction thus far in the DC Comics 52, I guess I can be a bit over the top with my favorite Flash) but I adore how you have developed Miss Martian and Superboy especially.
Miss Martian's rationalization of what she's doing is extremely intriguing and given her consequences to it in the last episode, I'm wondering what that has done to her psyche and her spirit. You left us very much at a cliffhanger, as your team is so good at doing. You certainly surprised us with the break up within the 5 year time split but I like how Conner and M'gann have still managed to work together. it gives them a lot of props for remaining "professional" and their little interactions away from the others, in particular when they discussed their reasons for ending the relationship, gave a lot of depth and development to their characters.
I also find this version of Tim to very interesting, though he has not said much as of yet. Thank you for not combining Jason and Tim into one character because they really are important separate characters. Most seem too afraid to touch Jason with a ten foot stick, usually making Tim a watered down mix of 90% Jason and 10% Tim. So, I really am interested in what you plan for Tim in this season. His interactions with Dick are intriguing as well, given their brother-type status. When you pulled Batman out of the picture mid-way through, this became even more thought provoking and I look forward to seeing Tim's development and use in this season.
Your version of Oliver Queen is also one of the first I can truly say I like. Usually, he comes off as being an arrogant jerk but I find him very human(for lack of a better word) and realistic here. I especially loved his reactions to the original Roy returning and Artemis' "death." It really put into perspective that he does have a link with his proteges, something that is not addressed a lot. I applaud you and your team for these great character arcs. Given that Artemis is in fact alive, Oliver's realization of this, if it ever comes, will be fascinating to see play out...though I wonder if he knows Red Arrow Roy has a daughter with an ex-villain...
I do have one question; I have looked through the archives and hope that I have not missed it already being asked. If it has, please excuse me for missing that.
Q1: What is your favorite type of villain to create? Some people like power-hungry emotionally neutral, some like physically strong obsessed, some like manipulative, intelligent schemers(those are my personal favorites) and I was wondering if you had a preference to the ones you like to create.
Well, thank you for listening to my ramblings. I truly do love the world you have created for Young Justice and I look forward to learning more about it.
1. My favorite villain is one that acts as a counterpoint to some aspect of the hero.
As for Wally, I like him BETTER because he's doing the heroic thing with less power to back it up. What I like about him is his HUMANITY. I think we've shown that. I don't think "Bloodlines" was a tragic moment for him at all. He wasn't replaced in the least. Rather, he was shown to be part of a grand tradition from Jay to Barry to Wally to Bart. Don't take a stray comment here and there from either Wally or Bart to indicate actual hostility. They tease. It's family stuff.
Hey greg
I wanted to ask on why npbody cared about superboy's birthday besides Megan and Wendy.
Does he have close relationship with their team at all or they are just teammates?
Did superman ever went to his birthday parties?
1. It wasn't about caring, it was about this MASSIVE distraction: ARTEMIS' DEATH. Look, I occasionally forget my good friends' birthdays even when I don't have a huge tragic excuse. So I think his friends can be forgiven for not celebrating in this case. Especially since in the past, M'gann set it up for them, and they were always given a reminder. Besides, you don't know what happened after that scene with Wendy. Others may have wished him a happy birthday later in the day. And finally, you also need to keep in mind that Superboy always claimed to HATE celebrating his birthday.
2. He's close with most of them, especially the ones he's known the longest, i.e. Dick, Wally, Artemis, Zatanna, Raquel, Mal, Karen, Garfield and Barbara. For obvious reasons, he and La'gaan aren't exactly good buddies, and there is likewise obvious tension these days between Conner and M'gann. But Conner gets along well with Tim, Cassie, Jaime and Bart; he just doesn't know them as well. He even gets along about as well with Roy (Red Arrow) as anyone. (And frankly, even the tension with La'gaan is, I think, exaggerated by the fandom. I don't think Conner and La'gaan dislike each other, so much as La'gaan feels like he must compete with Conner, and Conner still has issues with M'gann.)
3. Yes, always. But it's hard to do when you're on trial on Rimbor.
Hi Greg! I'm loving Young Justice so far. Season 2 looks like it's going to be really interesting. I've only got a few questions, most of them about La'gaan. I don't see why he gets so much hate. He's hilarious, and I'm very glad he'll be getting some more character development in the future.
1. How close were Kaldur and La'gaan back when they both lived in Atlantis?
2. What city-state is La'gaan from?
3. What do La'gaan's parents think about him working with the king on the surface? Are they proud?
1. They were friends. Not best friends. Kaldur's best friend was Garth. La'gaan's is Blubber. But they were pretty good friends, when one takes the age difference into account.
2. I haven't nailed that down yet.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
What was Sportsmaster reaction when he knew his daughters were dating two 'good guys'? Does he dislike gingers now?
1. Disgust, I'd imagine.
2. I have to say with a red-headed wife and two red-headed kids, this trend toward dissing "gingers" pisses me off.
In Players Chapter Three, we see Sphere go through a Zeta-tube, designated as 'Sphere, C-01'. I have some questions about the C designations.
1. What type of beings are the C desigs reserved for? Something like pets or non-human(/Martian/Kryptonian/etc)
2. Does Spere have to be... Well, a sphere... To use the Zeta-tube? Like, he couldn't go through in 'Super-Cycle' form?
3. Would it follow that Wolf's designation woulda be C-02?
1. Pets, basically.
2. Depends on the size of the specific Zeta-Tube. Some are bigger than others.
3. It would follow, but that doesn't mean it's true. You'll have to wait and see.
In Players, Chapter Two, on the title page, a character can be seen between Grodd and Black Adam. This character is a yellowish color and looks to be slightly robotic. I can not identify this character. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If we will find out who this is through the actual storyline, feel free to disregard my message.
Thank you.
Okay, for starters, every chapter has two title pages - one near the beginning and one at the end - but from context, I assume you're talking about the first. Secondly, there are also two characters between Grodd and Adam. One is Tommy Terror. But I assume you're talking about the other one. And I don't know the answer. You'd have to ask Chris Jones - and even then I might have to disagree.
Hello, Greg!
1. I know you've been asked about Bart's age several times, but something has been bothering me about the answers you gave, so I hope you'll forgive my asking about it again. Once you said that Impulse is 13 years old, making it sound like his thirteenth birthday has already passed. However, a more recent reply would imply that he hasn't turned 13 yet, as your reply was "Assuming he lives up to the end of Team Year Six, he'll be 13." Can you clarify this? It's caused quite a bit of confusion.
2. Is Wally still on good terms with his parents in Invasion?
3. The next two are rather silly, but I am really curious: What are Tim, Cassie and Gar's best subjects at school (I'm assuming that Tim and Cassie go to actual schools while Gar gets homeschooled by Snapper)?
4. Would you mind arranging the newer heroes [namely, Tim, Cassie, Gar, La'gaan, Jaime, Bart and Roy (Arsenal)] from shortest to tallest?
5. This question is partly inspired by the fact that Legacy is coming up. Do you have any opinion on video games as a monde of storytelling as compared to cartoons or comic books?
Thanks for your time. Invasion has been awesome so far (I don't think I've ever been so emotionally invested in a television so before) and I can't wait to see more!
1. The thing you need to keep in mind is that with very few exceptions (only Superboy, Nightwing and Kid Flash come to mind), I haven't assigned actual birthdates to most characters. I know what year they were born in relative to Season One, a.k.a. Team Year Zero, but I don't have a month or a day for them. So I can only answer how old they are at the end of a given year, since in theory their birthdays could be anywhere from January 1st to December 31st. AND... I don't want to create spoilers by saying that such-and-such will be X years old at the end of the year, when that seems to imply that him or her will MAKE IT to the end of the year. I refuse to guarantee that. With Season One characters, I have it a touch easier. The Season is complete, so the audience knows who survived and who didn't. No spoilers involved. But Season Two characters are more difficult. Now, normally, I could just say that character Y was X years old just prior to the start of Season Two, i.e. just prior to episode 201, i.e. at the end of Team Year Five. But this creates a particular difficulty with Impulse, as he wasn't present in this era at the start of Season Two. So I can't use that trick. And again, I don't want - at this time - to nail down a specific date of birth (month and day). Since Bart didn't arrive in Team Year Six until February 28th - and since I don't know when his birthday is - I honestly don't know how old he is during Season Two. He might be twelve, or he might be thirteen. By the end of Team Year Six, he will definitely be thirteen - assuming he SURVIVES. And, again, I won't guarantee that. I hope that clears it up.
2. Yes, why?
3.Gar is homeschooled by <ahem> Mr. Carr. Anyway, I don't know. It's not that it's too silly for me to know. I just haven't given enough thought to it.
4. I don't have a size-comp handy, I'm afraid. But it seems clear to me that La'gaan is the tallest of that group and that Gar is the shortest. Bart is probably the second shortest. Jaime's probably the second tallest, but Tim and Cassie are about the same height. As for the original Roy... I just can't remember off the top of my head.
5. I have very little experience with video games. But my experience working with Sharon Scott and the folks at Little Orbit has been extremely positive, so I'm all for it when it's done right.
I know by now the original members of the team all know Dick's identity, but do the newer members know?
Some do, some don't.
I feel horrible post three back to back, but I forgot to include a link to an article I found when I was looking up stuff about the comic rumor.
When I first read about the comics ending, my research led me to: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/young-justice-comic-canceled-tv-show-implications.html
I'd seen the article, but I still can't comment at this time.
I'm sorry to post back to back, but I notice a couple of mistakes.
The website is Fanfiction.net and I meant to say that I'd hate to see the series end.
I got the gist, but thank you.
I was reading some stuff on fanficion.net and there is a rumor going around that the YJ tie-in comics will end after February. I have several online friends that are upset by this rumor, but so am I, YJ is the first series of comics ever that I started collecting and have every one so far. I'd have to see the series end after the five year gap is filled in. Please, if you can, is there any truth to this rumor or is it just that, a rumor.
What is Black Lightning's civilian identity?
What are my options?
How old is Black Lightning in Season 2.
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Well. I've been trying to look at things like the designation's numbers and such. I believe to have figured out the whole designation list for the Justice League designation list but not the whole Team list so here are my questions:
1.Please confirm if this is correct
Justice League Designation's:
01. Superman
02. Batman
03. Wonder Woman
04. Flash
05. Hal Jordon
06. Aquaman
07. Martian manhunter
08. Green Arrow
09. Hawkman
10. Hawkwoman
11. Zatara
12. Captain Atom
13. Black Canary
14. John Stewart
15. Captain Marvel
16. Red Tornado
17. Doctor Fate
18. Atom
19. Plastic Man
20. Icon
21. Red Arrow
22. Black Lightning
23. Guy Gardner
24. Blue Beetle
25. Zatanna
26. Rocket
Let's start with this:
Why would I confirm or deny this?
Why should I confirm or deny this?
I've already stated - more than once - that I wasn't going to reveal designations but let the revelations flow naturally from the series and comics (and the video game).
Why would I change my mind now when we still have plenty more episodes and issues (and the game) still to come?
The whole thing is a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
When Tempest and Beast Boy were on the Team at the same time (so around the time of Legacy), did any of the characters joke about how similar their first names are and/or have a "Not you, the other Gar" type moment?
It's Gar and Garth. Not Gar and Gar. I'm not saying there was never any mis-speaking, but it's not like you can't hear the difference between the two words, so the kind of joke you're suggesting wouldn't play. And certainly, during missions they'd be using Tempest and Beast Boy anyway. But if there was a way to milk some humor for it, we'd try to find it.
In the episode Before the Dawn, was the big bad Blue Beetle of the future played by Eric Lopez, or by someone else?
Eric.
As more and more teenage superheroes join The Team in Young Justice, would it be safe to say that the members of The Team treat each other more as if they were family to one another instead of just treating each other like mere fellow teammates?
I'm not sure what the "more and more" part has to do with that equation. "Family" is a metaphor in this situation anyway. So the answer is both.
I hope this isn't taken as an insult...but I really appreciate how the women are designed in Young Justice so that they're not all "flawless" looking. The reason I can't get more of my girl friends into comic stuff is because they feel like they objectify women by making it all about their appearances and not about their strength as heroes. However, in Young Justice, the characters are still beautiful but in their own individual ways and not the cookie cutter fan boy fantasy way. Was that a conscious effort?
To the extent we've been successful at this, I'm going to say yes. But not just with the female characters. With the male characters too. And to be fair to most comics, I think the cookie cutter works both ways there too. Women aren't the ONLY characters being idealized.
Hi! This really isn't a question but more of a praise session. Thank you so much Mr. Weisman for your work with Young Justice. The show, like Gargoyles, has kept me at the edge of my seat every week and leaves me begging for more. Keep up the good work and best wishes.
See, you just fed my ego and assuaged my insecurities. Thanks.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
I understand that since Young Justice became a part of the DC Nation Block, you decided not to use a 20 second intro during Season Two, as it was normally done for the majority of the Season One episodes. If you had been able to use a 20 second intro for Young Justice: Invasion, how exactly would the sequence have gone in comparison to the 20 second intro that was used in Season One? In other words, what would the differences have been between the two openings?
Thanks,
CGYJ
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
I have some questions regarding the "Artemis" death timeline. It seems to have progress rather quickly.
She "dies" late in the night on the 19th of March, early in the morning of the 20th it's revealed that she's alive, and on the 21st Wally takes her mother to her "grave".
It just all seams really fast. I mean REALLY fast.
Now given that Artemis was taken under the wings of Oliver/Green Arrow and Bruce/Batman I can see a monument/grave marker being put up in her honor that quickly; but what dose Artemis' mother think happened to her?
I mean she's not dead so what proof was her mother given that she died other than the team and the league's word?
Was she shown a body that was a stand in for Artemis?
Or did she just take the word of the team and the league that her daughter was gone and didn't ask to see her?
It just seams odd that she wouldn't ask to see her daughter's body; though given how she "died" (in the line of duty) I don't see them going through a M.E. even if she really had been killed.
How are hero's that die in the line of duty taken care of anyway? Getting a death certificate issued without revealing that they were heroes?
I'll admit it all happened fast. But what makes you think Paula didn't see a body?
As for death certificates, I haven't actually given it much thought. But that doesn't seem too difficult a problem to surmount.
I've noticed in La'gaan's design, he has lots of markings all over his body. The ones on his arms and the two on his head are fins of a sort I'm guessing, right? But the ones on his shoulders , chest and legs, are those markings or tattoos? Also, is the middle one on his head hair?
His tattoos are all invisible except when he's using his powers. So I assume you're talking about his natural markings. He has no hair, though he has fins that look hair-like, I guess.
I'm really glad you included Tim Drake but so far it seems like he serves no purpose in the show...as I'm writing this half the season has passed and he's had maybe 10 lines and they've all been mission related. I mean, you gave his special relationship with the Super Cycle to Superboy, his friendship with Impulse to Blue Beatle, I don't see that brotherly relationship with Nightwing they had in the comics, he lets Batgirl take charge, and we haven't even seen him speak to Batman at all. At certain times in Before the Dawn it was so awkward that he didn't say a word. It left me wondering if you have to pay the voice actor $1000000 a word or something...Hopefully this has changed by the time you answer this :) Other than that this has been yet another awesome season of an awesome show and I hope there are going to be many more
Not everyone is a lead. Tim is a supporting character. That's just how it is. He's not the only one either. I don't truly agree with your assessment that he's had nothing to do, serves no purpose and has said only ten mission-related lines. I assume even you know you're exaggerating for effect. I think we have shown his relationship to Dick. I think we've hinted at other things as well, and will continue to do so.
His voice actor doesn't cost us anymore than any other voice actor - and I'm sure Cameron Bowen would agree with you that Robin doesn't get to speak enough - but he does cost money, so if he doesn't have much to say in an already crowded episode, we will reduce, say, one or two lines down to zero to give us some budgetary breathing room.
I suppose we could have simply not introduced him, but our timeline dictated that he'd be around by now. And we thought it would be more fun to have him around as a supporting character, with potential to become a lead in time, than to leave him out entirely.
I know Beast Boy is young, but does he really know what Megan does to people like Aqualad or the Kroletean? He seems to be rather innocent.......and not as likely to be called a psycopath as Megan
No, I don't think he knows.
I'm confused here. If the years on the timestamps as indicated on Young Justice issue #20 are correct, then it seems that the entirety of Season One took place during Year Zero. The present day events of the issue indicate that 2015 is Year Five. If that is true, would Season Two technically be Year Six in 2016? Also, If Young Justice: Legacy takes place one year before Season Two, would that be Year Five or Year Four?
As I've said before, all attempts to LOCK in a real world year are fruitless. If it pleases you or other fans to regard Team Year Zero as 2010, I can't stop you, and it should fit most (though not necessarily all) calculations.
But, yes, all of Season One of Young Justice takes place during Team Year Zero - except for the occasional flashback and the last couple minutes of "Auld Acquaintance, which take place during the early hours of Team Year One.
Season Two, i.e. Young Justice: Invasion (with the exception of the occasional flashback and the occasional flashforward to Bart's home era), all takes place during Team Year Six.
The action - though not all of the backstory - of Young Justice Legacy, all takes place during Team Year Five.
Why couldn't Miss Martain or Psimon sense each other in Beneath like they did in image
Ultimately, they did. But keep in mind in "Image" she was looking for him, and the very act of that registered. In "Beneath", neither were expecting - let alone searching - for each other.
what the Scrab mean that Wonder Girl triggered biochemical changes in Blue Beetle's Body?
It's hormones. He finds her chemically attractive.
Why do you make Tim Drake so quiet? Do you interpret the character as being shy or is he just reserved and serious? He's my favorite DC character of all time by the way, thank you for including him; like actually him with his personality and not the "Timmy Todd" they had in New Batman Adventures (though that show was pretty awesome too). It's the only place I get to see the character now since the New 52 butchered him...
He's reserved and serious and maybe shy also.
Hi Greg,
Can i say you're quite unlucky because first you're show Spectacular Spiderman was awesome and critically acclaimed then it gets cancelled and left on a cliffhanger (which people got so upset and frustrated) and then young justice is on hiatus when it gets better and better. Why does bad things happen to things that are going good?
Dude, if I only knew...
Okay, I really want to know what is going on here. I mean another hiatus?! This is the best animated show in years and they just keep putting up hiatuses? It's not okay, dude. What if they decide to cancel it? I wouldn't bear it.
You know, this show really makes me happy. It's the best DC animated show yet, seriously. You and your team do an amazing job and you give it that DC Comics spirit I love.
I'm a huge fan of the show, ever since I saw it for the first time. And you know, I always said that your show gave me the feeling that it could even bring Jason Todd. And it did, there's no way you can deny something we all saw.
I just, I don't know, if you only knew how mad I ma right now...They can't do it. This show is big. Bigger that Teen Titans, bigger than The Justice League or Justice League Unlimited. Almost bigger than Batman Beyond. They shouldn't do that.
I just, I just wanted to congratulate and thank you for the fact that you created the best animated series ever. Being a fan since I was little(I'm 15)l, and not seeing one good animated series made me mad, but your show has it all. And with all that I'm sure that we'll see in Invasion, well, it's just perfect.
Not to mention that your characters are amazing. I love Wally and the way he is portraied. And thank you for bringing Artemis as his love interest, I never liked Linda, anyway. And in Invasion, let me just tell you that Bart Allen was the best gift ever. He's one of my all time favorites, and I really love the way he acts. It's just perfect.
Well, I hope that the show will come back on Cartoon Network soon and that it will last for at least 5 seasons(it's an ordrer).
Thank you for all!
PS: Please don't reply this just with a boring "Thanks" or something,I'm curious to know what you are thinking about the hiatus.
I'm sorry, but I have no comment on the hiatus, beyond what I've already stated here:
Hi Mr.Weisman!
I just wanted to start off by saying that regardless of the sudden hiatus and some of the negative feedback the show got around the beginning of season 2, You are doing an excellent job on Young Justice! I can't even fathom the right words to explain how highly I think of this show, but basically it's the most intelligent, entertaining, and well thought out show I've seen, animated or not. As I'm constantly busy and stressed quite often, this show provides me a moment to submerse my mind into something I fully enjoy. I look forward to this show every week and I have to say I was literally heartbroken when I found out that "Before the Dawn" along with DC Nation entirely was postponed until January. I'm not sure if you've noticed but this fandom has your back! Since I'm not aware of the real reason for the abrupt hiatus, I haven't mouthed off to cartoon network or anything, but I'm doing everything in my power to support the show. I bought the episode on itunes, signed the petition (which is well past 10,000 signatures!), I watch both Sat. and Sun airings on both the East and West networks, and buy the comics whenever I can on comixology. And this I suppose leads me to my first question:
1) What can we as a fandom and individually do to support the show in the most respectful and effective way possible?
2 )I've been really interested in buying YJ merchandise like tee-shirts and iphone backgrounds, for a while. I've seen some around online, but seeing as I think they're fan made I haven't cared to purchase any of it as I don't think the profits would benefit the show. And I know purchase of the toys are encouraged, but as a 17 year old girl without younger siblings around, I have no use for them (and I've never seen any in stores regardless). Is there any talk of producing miscellaneous merchandise, sort of how Regular Show, Adventure Time, and other DC titles do through stores like Hot Topic? Seeing as Young Justice has quite a lot of older viewers, I think this would be a good idea.
Thanks for your time. I just really wanted to know the best ways I can support the show and hopefully do my part to help Young Justice get back on air and a season 3
1. I honestly don't know anymore. But there are some obvious things: WATCH IT. Even the reruns. BUY MERCHANDISE licensed from the series. Buy it on iTunes, I guess. Buy the DVDs. Sending respectful correspondence to the networks can't hurt, I wouldn't think. Buy Happy Meals (or the like) when they have a YJ promotion. Etc. Buy the video game when it comes out. Buy our companion comic book.
2. None that I've heard about.
Dear Greg,
First let me say that you and your team are awesome! YJ is one of my favorite shows ever!!!
I have three questions:
1.) Did you plan from the beginning that Artemis would take on her role as super-villain Tigress.
2.) Whose your favorite new character from this season.
3.) In episode "Before the Dawn" Shimmer melts some metal with her hands...what's this power called?
1. Well, I'm not sure we planned it literally from Day One, but we figured it out pretty early on.
2. I don't have one.
3. <shrug>. Transmutation, maybe?
I noticed Icon was removed from #21's cover. Did you do this or did someone else?
Me? No.
In Bloodlines was Bart's apparent interest in Blue Beetle foreshadowing?
Well, if you remove the word "apparent" from your question, then you don't even need to refer to it as foreshadowing. He was objectively interested in Blue Beetle - now you know why.
But I guess from a behind-the-scenes standpoint, it was laying pipe or 'foreshadowing'.
Did Ted die in that explosion at Kord industries?
Yes.
Quick question about The Light and The Reach; how long have they been partners?
Long enough.
Did Stephanie Brown really appeared in the YJ ep. Beneath the Depths?
Yes.
Why do Nightwing and Robin wear sunglasses, while Batgirl doesn't wear any?
Batgirl, like Batman, wears a cowl - not a small domino mask.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
I don't know if you sometimes surf around the internet during your free time, but I wanted to let you know that it's been crazy since DC Nation was pulled off of Cartoon network without warning.
Here are a at least two things that I know that have been happening:
A. A Petition to Bring DC Nation Back A.S.A.P. - Apparently, someone started an online petition sometime after the announcement that DC Nation was coming back in January 2013. It seems that that the massive negative response to this announcement is what prompted the petition in the first place. From what I understand, the petition is trying to go for at least 10,000 people to sign this petition online. I believe you can find on Young Justice Wiki and from what I've read around the internet, I think that the people who doing this petition find it extremely beneficial if you and your co-workers gave your signatures to this petition. The fans are angry, and that's understandable.... since the press release info for the latest Young Justice DVD DID SAY that Season Two would be all done by December.. I guess the loyal fans of the show just want to see everything run the way that they are originally supposed to be...
B. Theories going about on why DC Nation was removed - This was the most insane part of it. On Young Justice Wiki there was a blog that mentioned three theories about what happened. Of the three, the most ridiculous two that I've read are about the possibility that DC Comics lost its rights to Milestone-related Characters (like Static) and that the presence of Stephanie Brown on your show had something to do with DC Nation being temporarily removed from Cartoon Network. This appears to be ridiculous, and I'm sure you'll agree with me on this. Considering the genius of you and your co-workers into putting this parallel DC universe together and how you plan things WAY in advance, there is no way theories like these would be true.
Thanks for hearing me out. I just wanted to let you know what's been going on.
CGYJ
Uh... thanks for the update.
A. No comment.
B - Yes, theories about any particular characters - all already approved - being the reason why DC Nation (i.e. both YJ and Green Lantern) were pulled are ridiculous.
I was fairly amused, and a little happy, to see Stephanie Brown get a guest spot in the latest episode. Were you and the rest of the production team planning to introduce Steph for a while or was it a 'lets toss her name in to be nice' moment thing?
I won't ask if she'll become a regular as Spoiler or not, but I really hope she does get more time, Steph needs some love right now.
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Thanks Greg for the Amazing episode of Before the Dawn my favorite of the second season sadly because they take DCNation. I see it on itunes sorry if that affect the ratings I am so angry at CNN at this moment.thanks for all. my little brother was crying yesterday when I told him about Dc Nation being out of the programming.thanks again.
You're welcome.
I noticed that after Impulse explained to Blue Beetle about the future, he starts to say that this was the REAL reason he came back to the past, but then he quickly corrects himself and says that it was the MAIN reason he came back to the past. Based on Impulse's statement, does that seem to suggest on some level that Impulse is admitting that he may know that multiple factors/key events in history are what leads to the "Reach Apocalypse" as he so calls the event?
I'm not confirming or denying anything that hasn't already been established on the series, for example the fact that he ALSO went back in time to save Flash and cure Neutron.
In Satisfaction Oliver had his own bunker with a Zeta-tube. Does the Batcave have it's own Zeta-tube as well?
Yep.
Do you feel like each episode more or less features one character more than the others?
No. Some do this. But most have a mix.
In "Before the Dawn" how is Tim Drake able to see through his sunglasses when it's night-time?
Probably the same way I can see through my ski goggles in low light.
Very, very sorry for CN's abrupt stunt. Hopefully, they either had a good reason for doing this or they'll have the heart to give us back Young Justice before 2012 ends. Anyway, thanks to iTunes, I watched "Before the Dawn" and there were so many absolutely fantastic things in this episode. But there was one thing in particular that touched me and that's Bart's attitude towards Blue Beetle.
I mean, wow. Yes, it's pretty clear that in the future, Jaime is actually just another one of the Reach's victims. He would never do something so plain awful. But it would be very, very difficult for most people to be able to get past that. That little flashback to Bart's future suggested that he's always been enslaved, mistreated and threatened by Blue Beetle. And in cases like these, some heroes would try to pull the whole "the need of the many exceeds the need of one" shctick, but not Bart. He wants to help save Jaime AND the world.
He could have very easily awaited for the scientist to extract the Scarab and kill Jaime then done something about it. It seemed to me like letting him get killed now might help prevent everything that went wrong (or at least, what went wrong because of Blue Beetle), but he rushed in fully determined to save Jaime, actually upset that someone was trying to hurt Jaime. Actually concerned for Jaime.
Bart has gone past understanding that isn't Jaime's fault, but he's easily and very readily forgiven him and grew to care for him right away. And even though he's keeping some extremely heavy secrets from the Team, he's still trying to fix things the honest, heroic way- by fighting for the innocent.
And just, wow. Bart's been in what? Four episodes? And I already love him like it's nobody's business. There are many other characters in this show I adore (there's a special place in my heart reserved exclusively and permanently for the original six, for instance), but this is the quickest I've grown to love one of them. Hell, this is the quickest I've ever grown to love a character, with the arguable exception of Heath Ledger's The Joker, but that was more love in the sense that he was a stellar character. I love the Bart you guys have given us for being a stellar character AND a stellar human being overall.
Really, wonderful job! Hope to see more of this sort of dynamic between Impulse and Blue Beetle, as well as more of my other favorite relationships and characters. Keep up the epic work and here's to many more future seasons!
Thanks.
In Satisfaction, what was Captain Cold's bank robbery had to do with that episode?
Life goes on.
Greg,
By the time you answer this question, it may be a moot point, but I figured I would ask:
You've made your opinion clear on people watching "leaked" or subtitled episodes of YJ. How do you feel about people watching "Before the Dawn" on iTunes before it was broadcast?

Praise for "Before the Dawn"
Wow! What an awesome ep! This show just gets better and better! You just have to get a third season!
I was SO relieved and excited when I heard on the net that the ep was on iTunes. I downloaded it right away! And it was AMAZING to say the least.
Nice to see when a girl's deductions are right on the money! Well 85% right.
Don't know if the rest of the season will be released on iTunes in the coming weeks, but if we all do have to wait until January for the rest I think I can handle it now. ^_^. With all the hype that you and your amazing team had heaped up for this ep I was just desperate to see it and so was everyone else.
But in any case when it dose come back to air in January I will DVR it (don't know if that counts as a rating) and watch it on the CN West to help out with the ratings to keep them up just in case DRV recordings with an off TV don't count. Everyone should. It would be sad if CN says that Young Justice won't be renewed for a third season after it comes back due to low ratings because everyone downloaded it from iTunes and then didn't watch it air on DC Nation because they're mad at CN and have already seen it.
Hopefully the money that iTunes brings in from this will catch CN's attention and they'll see what a MaJOR mistake it was to pull DC Nation from the schedule until next year. They'll see just how many people wanted to see it; since no one was able to see it on TV the number of downloads should give a good picture of the number of fans out there (those with Internet access and the funds to pay; {which if they don't CN still has created an unfair situation} but at 2 dollars even I was able to buy it and I'm always broke! ^_~.)
Maybe this will give hope for a third season too? By us buying it off iTunes without seeing it on TV first should show just how much we want it to stick around.
Umm... Now a question:
(1) What dose "on mode" mean?
Is that like hijacked? And dose it have any relation to when someone from Bart's time says that they're feeling the mode?
Once again to you and your team:
Good work!
Now after that's been said back to watching it all over again!
Depends who's talking. To the Reach, it means that everything is functioning properly, but to the humans of Bart's era, if things were functioning well for the Reach, that was bad news for the humans. And so to them it was always better to crash the mode rather than feel it.
I was wondering if Batgirl was the leader of the rescue mission or if the mission had just played out in a way that she had to take more charge in it.
She was a squad leader with Robin and Bumblebee.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
So I found out on Young Justice Wiki that "Before the Dawn" was viewable on iTunes for people who use it. I guess whoever was able to watch it that way was able to download it on the internet for people who can't watch it. Good thing too. It was a crazy, action-packed episode! Here are my thoughts below (even though the topics of discussion are not in order).
A. Miss Martian, Aqualad, and Artemis - By the AllSpark, M'gann, what have you done?! Serious, I don't know exactly what she did and I don't know if Aqualad is catatonic or not! Plus, having Artemis just arrive to find out what Miss Martian did, I wonder is she'll really become a bad guy for real? I really do hope Aqualad will be okay in the episodes to come. As for Miss Martian, I think her actions will probably get her expelled from The Team for sure.
B. The Pieces Are Coming Together - A part of Bart's past shows that Blue Beetle was in turned to the dark side in 2056. So the reason he came back was simply to save Blue Beetle from becoming evil? Somehow, I think there's more to it than that. There may be other factors involved that lead to the apocalypse in 2056. But at least Bart formed a friendship with Blue Beetle to make sure nothing bad happens.
C. Stephanie Brown on Earth-16 - Yup, I should've known we would meet the next "member" of the Bat-Family. After all Earth-16 does its best to closely match pre-Flashpoint continuity. No other words need to said…
D. Godfrey and the Reach - I sensing a Reach-Apokoliptian collaboration on the horizon if something like this is going to happen. Beyond that, it makes me wonder….
E. Static on Earth-16 - He may not have used his powers yet, but I wonder what was the meaning of having him around to watch the other heroes get beaten around by Black Beetle? Hmmm… Maybe this moment is supposed to make him realize that he needs to become a hero later on… I don't know… I bet something special is being planned for him. Here's to hoping to see more of Static…
Thanks for hearing me out on my thoughts.

Not going to confirm or deny any of your assumptions.
Greetings, Mr. Weisman!
I'm a Gargoyles fan writing all the way from Puerto Rico.
Anyway, just dropping by to ask something:
1) Is it just me or is the neck in Derek/Talon's shirt (the one he wears after his mutation runs full cirle) very closely designed after the neck gauge in Xanatos' exoframe (the tubes and buttons David uses to remove the helmet)?
2) Is there any particular reason why Talon wears a brooch-like object around his shirt neck, again not dissimilar from the gauges and other machinery in the exoframe?
3) If so, what's its purpose: is it something like a marker, a badge of authority or something of the sort, something more practical, like a moneyclip or a transmitter, or just decoration, like Demona's tiara and jewelry?
1. I can't picture it, but I think it must be just you.
2. Again, I just don't recall. But I'm fairly certain that we weren't trying to make a conscious visual connection to Xanatos' armor.
3. I'm guessing decoration.
Why the decision to use the name "Black Beetle" for the Reach character based on Dawur from the comics? In the comics, "Black Beetle" was the name of a completely different character.
Yes, we know. But we felt for Earth-16, that this was the way to go to keep our universe clean, straight-forward and understandable.
1. Why were the Reach so interested in Beast Boy's powers? He is but a mere human with martian DNA after all. If they want to weaponize his abilities so much, why not just go to Mars and abduct EVERY SINGLE PERSON there? Mars is full of people with these abilities while Earth is full of people who "might" have a meta gene. Why not just test Martians?
2. DC is rumored to be having legal trouble about using the milestone comicbook characters. Is this true? Will it affect the portrayal of Icon, Rocket and Static on the show?
3. There is a trailer for the show going around featuring characters like Black Beetle, Static Shock, Deathstroke and others. How do you feel about trailers spoiling future episodes? Obviously a lot of trailers do this, but do you agree with the practice?
4. Why didn't the Earth-bound leaguers accompany the team on their high-priority mission to recover the abducted teammates? It seems like Aquaman, Captain Atom, Zatanna and Black Lightning would have been a huge help against the Reach. I can't come up with a reason as to why they sat out on this one.
5. Assuming the Big Bang Explosion has been completely written out of Earth-16 and Static has been christened with a new origin story, are you still hypothetically able to use characters such as Hothead, Gear and She-Bang? I'm not asking for spoilers here, just asking if you are able to use them.
1. Okay (a) for all you know they are testing Martians, but (b) you're entirely missing the point. What's interesting about the Earthling meta-gene is its flexibility. Most other species wod not adapt to Martian transfusion by gaining shape-shifting powers.
2. I don't know.
2a. No, as to Icon and Rocket. As for Static, Spoiler Request.
3. My first impulse is always to withhold. But I understand the commercial need to tease in order to help market the show, and with that in mind, Brandon and I cut most of the teaser trailers ourselves with Jho Reyes.
4. One reason: Nightwing.
5. What's done is done.
This is not a question but simply a statement. After the way cartoon network cancelled the new episodes of young justice, i wish there was someway you could move your show to a different channel. One that treats its shows better.
And what channel is that?
