I read in another post about a Young Justice game. What is this game and when will it come out? Also, where can I buy this game once it comes out or if it is already out? Thank you!

Greg responds...

Young Justice Legacy will be out in September and for sale, I assume wherever video games. Are sold.

Did you have to pitch up Logan Grove's voice when recording for the Legacy game, especially since Beast Boy is supposed to be younger in Legacy than he is in the second season itself?

Greg responds...

Nope.

If Young Justice has not been renewed for a third season, what have you been up to lately?

Also, how excited are you for the new Young Justice video game?

Greg responds...

1. I've just recently gone through all this. Check the archives.

2. Very.

Hello there Greg (you don't mind me calling you Greg, do you?), how you've been?
Well I hope you have been doing well, and working hard on YJ for us fans.
So let me introduce myself, my name is Daniel I'm from Brasil and I LOVE the YJ tv show. As for the comic book, still I haven't had the chance to check it out. But I cannot see why it wouldn't be as great as the animation.
Anyways… with the recent CN's actions and the future listing of DC's solicitations, a lot of speculations have surfaced the web. Do those same speculations harm you or the crew in any way? Note that I don't mean it physically, I mean carrerwise (e.g. the mood in the work environment, the relationship with the bosses… that kind of thing?).
Have you ever thought about, or did in fact pitch in an Earth 16 title for the DC's New 52 (such as the Earth 2 title)? If not, how about it? I imagine that great things would come out of it. :) And what about novels? That would certainly be interesting!!

Greg responds...

I'm not sure what speculations you're referring to. But...

ANYWAY, I suppose this is as good an excuse as any to go through a bit of a chronology.

We finished the scripts for Invasion in January of 2012. So that's when I stopped getting paid, because although I'm a producer on the series, that title and even the responsibilities that go with it were, in essence, a courtesy, based on my experience, I guess. With a guy as talented and competent as Brandon on the job, Warners didn't feel any need to pay me to do the post-production on YJ. They had no problem with me participating, but they also had no problem with me walking away. (Same with Season One, by the way.) (And it was the same at Sony vis-a-vis The Spectacular Spider-Man. In animation, writers often aren't valued all that much once the script process is completed. From the point of view of these companies, I was really just a story editor with a glorified title, who was willing to do what he had to do in order to make the title real and NOT glorified.)

On one level, I probably should have walked away. But instead, I worked for free, helping to post the episodes with Brandon from January to October of 2012. Simultaneously - because I do need to earn a living - I did a number of freelance scripts for various series, including one for Warners' Beware the Batman, plus a Transformers Prime, a couple of Kaijudos, a couple Rescue Bots and a couple of Octonauts. Plus, there was the YJ comic, a few miscellaneous things, and I was also working on revising my first novel, Rain of the Ghosts. Oh, and Brandon and I were also giving free input on Legacy, as well. So I was plenty busy.

In October of 2012, we finished posting episode 220, "Endgame", and on Halloween I moved out of my office on the Warner Bros. Ranch and moved back to my old office in Beverly Hills. By that time, I was done with the comic as well.

During that period, Brandon and I (both separately and together) pitched all sorts of further Earth-16 properties, including (but not limited to) a third season (of course), animated spin-offs featuring Arsenal and/or the Arrow Family, a comic book entitled Earth-16, the Black Manta Celebrity Hot Tub shorts, a direct to DVD movie, etc. Brandon even pitched a YJ meets Scooby movie. Unfortunately, none of these were in the cards.

I'd love to say differently. I'd even love to say I've moved on, but I haven't really. Like many of the fans, I'm still mourning the whole thing, quite a bit. Perhaps even quite a bit more than is healthy. And - because I do need to earn a living - I'm still looking for both freelance work and my next solid gig. (It's been fourteen months without a real job, and it's starting to get a bit nerve-wracking, to be perfectly honest.) But Rain is coming out in December, and I'm hard at work on its sequel. They've both been very rewarding to work on, at least emotionally. (We'll have to wait and see if they turn out to be rewarding financially - but at least the potential upside is there.)

I'd happily do a YJ Novel, but like anything YJ related, it's just not up to me. It's just not a property I control AT ALL.

Hi Greg! Question for you about Roy and Jade.

Was their marriage something they actually wanted? Or was it more for convenience (Jade to change her last name or something)? Or was it a decision that was made because you wanted to bring Lian in but children out of wedlock = bad for the show's intended audience?

Thank you! So excited to see YJ back!

Greg responds...

Out of universe, I'll admit there was a little discomfort on the part of some of our bosses about an out-of-wedlock child. Having said that, no one ordered us to marry them off, and ultimately, we felt it worked better for the two, given some of our plans for both Season Two and YJL.

The Coming Deluge - Yet More Ask Greg Guidelines

The Coming Deluge - Yet More Ask Greg Guidelines

So, I truly hope I'm wrong, but I have to admit I'm anticipating a deluge of questions asking for SPOILERS after the airing of this Saturday's YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION finale. I understand the impulse: "The television and comic book series are over, so there's no reason for him to hold back anymore! It means anything and everything are now fair game! He can never say 'SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.' again"

But, see, that's not how I feel about it. So here's why, and here's how that should guide your future questions at ASK GREG:

1. Let's start here: OBJECTIVELY we're not over. YOUNG JUSTICE: LEGACY is due out in the fall, and it will contain new content - a SUBSTANTIAL amount of new CANON story content, based on ideas suggested to Little Orbit by Brandon Vietti and myself, and all vetted after the fact by us, as well, to make sure everything from dialogue to timestamps is consistent with the property as a whole. Now, LEGACY is set during the five-year-gap. So I'm not going to be inclined to answer questions that require me to reveal things that happened during our time skip. And not just Legacy related stuff either, because if I answer some questions about the gap but refuse to answer others, I'll be de facto spoiling. That I will not do, so please refrain from asking questions about the missing five years.

2. If I've learned anything from the long haul on GARGOYLES, it's that things sometimes DO come back. So SUBJECTIVELY I don't feel like we're over either. I still have hopes - however slim - of returning to Earth-16 one day. So there are secrets that I still may want to keep. Particularly about "Season Three". I'm not saying I'll never reveal anything. Sometimes a tidbit here or there helps keep fan interest alive. But I'm not going to wholesale give away the plans that Brandon and I came up with for what happens next. In general, I'm much more inclined to clarify what's already been shown then reveal what hasn't been shown. So try focusing your questions on what's aired or seen print and try to refrain from asking What Happens Next questions. When I feel like revealing something, I will.

3. ASK GREG is NOT a good format for me to tell creative stories. Any question, wherein the answer could fill an entire issue of a comic book or an entire episode of a television series or MORE will not be answered, because I will not short-change a story with a quick response, and I will not tell a story here at ASK GREG. So try to refrain from asking questions that would take an entire issue or episode to answer.

4. Brandon and I have many, many ideas for what happened before Season One, a few still left for what happened during Season One, many for what happened between seasons (including but not limited to Legacy), many ideas for stuff that happened off-camera during Season Two, tons of ideas for Season Three, and many, many, many ideas for beyond Season Three. BUT... ideas minus execution are subject to tremendous second-guessing. So I'm not inclined to give you new content. If I had told you before Season One that Red Arrow was the mole, minus how we executed that plot, it might have seemed quite weak. It's the execution that demonstrates whether or not an idea shines. And frankly, I don't need the second guessing and, well, nastiness that the internet encourages. So that's just another reason to refrain from asking what else we might have planned.

5. I will not lie to you here at ASK GREG, per this post: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?rid=982 . But I also will not state things that I believe to be true if stating those things will pretty much guarantee that I won't ever work in this town again. I have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed and clothe, etc. So you will not see me bad-mouthing companies in this public space. So please refrain from asking questions that would force me to do that. The best you'll get is no response.

6. Keep in mind, I answer questions because I like to be in touch with the fans, and I think it's fun for us all. But that doesn't mean I somehow OWE you an answer. The more entitled you think you are to the answer, (I can all but guarantee) the less inclined I'll be to respond in any useful way. Maybe that's me being needlessly contrary, but I'm just going to admit up front that it rubs me the wrong way. So tonally, try to avoid a sense of entitlement in your questions.

All this is IN ADDITION to the FOURTEEN guidelines already posted here: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/ask.php I'll admit that these six new guidelines are perhaps even more subjective than the previous fourteen, but I guarantee you that we'll all be happier if you stick to them. And the happier I am, the more likely that I'll drop the occasional surprise here and there. Whereas, the more assaulted I feel, the more likely I am to get annoyed and clam up about everything. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Otherwise... thanks for stopping by. Seriously. The dark days at ASK GREG seem to have passed for the most part, and most days I enjoy doing it again. I just want to keep it that way. Thanks.

1) Did Batgirl know Jason Todd before he died?

2) Did Batgirl know any of the other three mystery Team members from the time skip?

Greg responds...

1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

2. I'm not sure who you're defining as "mystery" and who you're not.

Surely this would not be a spoiler question, but if it is, I apologize. When Garth and Tula joined the Team, did they wear their outfits from Downtime/ comic appearances, or something different?

Greg responds...

They wore the outfits you've seen.

Hello, Greg!

1. I know you've been asked about Bart's age several times, but something has been bothering me about the answers you gave, so I hope you'll forgive my asking about it again. Once you said that Impulse is 13 years old, making it sound like his thirteenth birthday has already passed. However, a more recent reply would imply that he hasn't turned 13 yet, as your reply was "Assuming he lives up to the end of Team Year Six, he'll be 13." Can you clarify this? It's caused quite a bit of confusion.
2. Is Wally still on good terms with his parents in Invasion?
3. The next two are rather silly, but I am really curious: What are Tim, Cassie and Gar's best subjects at school (I'm assuming that Tim and Cassie go to actual schools while Gar gets homeschooled by Snapper)?
4. Would you mind arranging the newer heroes [namely, Tim, Cassie, Gar, La'gaan, Jaime, Bart and Roy (Arsenal)] from shortest to tallest?
5. This question is partly inspired by the fact that Legacy is coming up. Do you have any opinion on video games as a monde of storytelling as compared to cartoons or comic books?

Thanks for your time. Invasion has been awesome so far (I don't think I've ever been so emotionally invested in a television so before) and I can't wait to see more!

Greg responds...

1. The thing you need to keep in mind is that with very few exceptions (only Superboy, Nightwing and Kid Flash come to mind), I haven't assigned actual birthdates to most characters. I know what year they were born in relative to Season One, a.k.a. Team Year Zero, but I don't have a month or a day for them. So I can only answer how old they are at the end of a given year, since in theory their birthdays could be anywhere from January 1st to December 31st. AND... I don't want to create spoilers by saying that such-and-such will be X years old at the end of the year, when that seems to imply that him or her will MAKE IT to the end of the year. I refuse to guarantee that. With Season One characters, I have it a touch easier. The Season is complete, so the audience knows who survived and who didn't. No spoilers involved. But Season Two characters are more difficult. Now, normally, I could just say that character Y was X years old just prior to the start of Season Two, i.e. just prior to episode 201, i.e. at the end of Team Year Five. But this creates a particular difficulty with Impulse, as he wasn't present in this era at the start of Season Two. So I can't use that trick. And again, I don't want - at this time - to nail down a specific date of birth (month and day). Since Bart didn't arrive in Team Year Six until February 28th - and since I don't know when his birthday is - I honestly don't know how old he is during Season Two. He might be twelve, or he might be thirteen. By the end of Team Year Six, he will definitely be thirteen - assuming he SURVIVES. And, again, I won't guarantee that. I hope that clears it up.

2. Yes, why?

3.Gar is homeschooled by <ahem> Mr. Carr. Anyway, I don't know. It's not that it's too silly for me to know. I just haven't given enough thought to it.

4. I don't have a size-comp handy, I'm afraid. But it seems clear to me that La'gaan is the tallest of that group and that Gar is the shortest. Bart is probably the second shortest. Jaime's probably the second tallest, but Tim and Cassie are about the same height. As for the original Roy... I just can't remember off the top of my head.

5. I have very little experience with video games. But my experience working with Sharon Scott and the folks at Little Orbit has been extremely positive, so I'm all for it when it's done right.

When Tempest and Beast Boy were on the Team at the same time (so around the time of Legacy), did any of the characters joke about how similar their first names are and/or have a "Not you, the other Gar" type moment?

Greg responds...

It's Gar and Garth. Not Gar and Gar. I'm not saying there was never any mis-speaking, but it's not like you can't hear the difference between the two words, so the kind of joke you're suggesting wouldn't play. And certainly, during missions they'd be using Tempest and Beast Boy anyway. But if there was a way to milk some humor for it, we'd try to find it.
