Was that a Stephanie Brown missing poster in #25?
Maybe. You might have to ask Chris Jones.
Hi Greg, I'll get to the point. I was re-watching 'Depths' and wondered:
1-When Superboy told M'gann he didn't tell the League about her abusing her powers because he thought he mattered enought to her to make her stop, and she clearly didn't stop untill what happend to Aqualad. Does it mean she doesn't care that much for him?
1a-Regarding her relationship with Lagoon Boy and her ended relationship with Superboy, I can get that she loves them both but whom is she in-love with?
2-At the end of the episode, when Artemis asked Nightwing about he got the Glamour Charm from Zatanna he answered 'We have a history'...my question, and considering there's only 4 eps left to air (at least while I'm asking this questions) is that ALL that will be told about Dick and Zatanna's relationship during the 5 years gasp?
Last but not least, and I bet you get this one alot (apologies for that) How do you feel about the cancelaton of the show? It's certainly one of the very few good showzs on CN (in my opinion) I can't believe it won't get a 3th Season!
Thanks for your time.
1. No.
1a. I think it's clear she's not "in love" with La'gaan.
2. There's a touch more in the comics, but, yes.
3. Not cancelled. Just not picked up. But obviously, I'm not thrilled. Would have loved to have done more.
Hello Greg Thank you for all your work on all your shows. I was watching my Gargoyles season 1 DVDs and I have a question regarding Coldstone. Where did Xanatos and Demona get the gargoyle pieces that make up Coldstone? Did they come with Castle Wyvern when Xanatos transported it from Scotland?
As I recall, yes.
Is Garfield Logan the biological son of Marie Logan?
Yes.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Twenty:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Twenty. This one contained more mythology. The myths are really fun to write.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty-One.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK ONE UPDATE: THE MAP!
Here's yet another of my on-going shameless attempt to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
I'm happy to report that I've just seen the final version of the MAP OF THE GHOST KEYS, which will appear at the front of the book. I absolutely love it. It's gorgeous! I want to frame it and put it on my wall. Heck, I want to take it with me and visit the Ghosts!
C'mon, you know you want to visit too! So pre-order. Go ahead! INDULGE!!! (It's cheaper than a Royal Caribbean Cruise.)
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Nineteen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Nineteen. This one had a few built-in difficulties. First off, it's basically one long scene of people talking around a table outside a fast-food joint. And of course, you want to keep that interesting, even when what they're mainly doing is researching stuff on a cellphone. Plus, because the leads are sitting in a very public place, there were a lot of characters to juggle in and out of the scene, and I wanted to keep that organic and graceful, not awkward and choppy. I think I succeeded, but I suppose you'll all let me know next year.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty.
Hey Greg, I was wondering, since Earth-16 is (apparently) still in the DC Multiverse, and Grant Morrison is doing Multiversity, which will include a full map and profile of all the Universes, have you or anyone on the YJ team been in talks with Grant about the details of Earth-16?
Nope. I'd love to be included, but it hasn't come up.
Were Barbara and Dick each others' first kisses?
For Barbara, yes.
For Dick, well, I guess it depends on how you're defining "first kiss". But Dick and Barbara's kiss in issue #25 of the comic takes place before Dick and Zatanna's kiss in episode 126 of the series. But Zatanna kissed Dick earlier then either of those two kisses in issue #20 of the comic. But it was basically just a peck, so I don't know if you'd count that.
What happened during the time skip with Zatanna and Nightwing?
What history do they have together?
They dated. They broke up. They stayed friends. Close friends. (Etc.)
Hi Greg! Love the show -- especially the 2nd Season. So tense, exciting and AWESOME. For my money, it's the best serial drama on TV...
I was wondering how the season might have been different if you had 26 episodes versus the 20 we got. Would we have had more stand-alones like "Secrets" or are there important lost chapters in your timeline that were deemed to simply be less essential than what we saw onscreen? Not to say that the season feels rushed at all -- I love super-compact storytelling with all kinds of criss-crossing plotlines. I just love this season so much that I wish we had a few more adventures to enjoy!
Thanks for all your great work and I can't wait to see what you're working on next. (P.S. I pre-ordered Rain of the Ghosts -- so excited!)
Thanks for the kind words. And THANKS VERY MUCH for pre-ordering Rain of the Ghosts!!!
I think I've pretty much covered your question already. We NEVER had 26 episodes, so we only built the season for 20. So I can't say for absolute sure what would or wouldn't have been included in the hypothetical situation in which we had six more. But I'm sure it would have allowed for more screen time for characters who got shorter shrift this season. And I'm fairly certain we would have had a Zatanna story and maybe a Red Tornado story.
I recently read one of post about Reawakening and you said that even though some people saw the gargolyes and coldstone, the public still didnt know about them because there was no proof. I cant help but find this funny, because in todays day and age pretty much everyone carries a camera AND the internet in there pocket, so it is far easier to get phsiycal proof of something. So im curious but if you would have done things a little differently if the series had been set in a more recent time?
Obviously.
Mr. Weisman,
First, I find it surprising how Earth-16's Brainiac is neither good nor evil, as opposed to how he is portrayed in the comics and recent television cartoons as an evil character... I guess that means Earth-16's Brainiac had nothing to do with Krypton's destruction after all... What made you decide to make Brainiac so different from all his other counterparts in the DC multiverse.
Second, I felt bad for Superman because he never got the chance to ask Brainiac if anything was collected from Krypton. Do you think Brainiac probably actually DID collect something from Krypton? If so, what are the chances that Brainiac probably preserved the city of Kandor before Krypton's destruction? Would Superman eventually have found out something at some point in time (probably after the events of Season Two)?
Lastly, I'm disappointed that the origin of Superboy's Kryptonian name has not been addressed. Will we find out in the video game, or is this going to be left an open-ended mystery?
1. I went back to the core of the character's original mission. To collect sample cities from multiple worlds. And I ran with that.
2. I think you should look more carefully at the issues themselves. Beyond that, SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. Given enough issues and/or episodes, all would have been covered. Unfortunately, we just didn't get them.
What is the West maneuver?
Check out issue #24 of our companion comic. Or try: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/West_Maneuver
The youngjustice.wikia is a GREAT source for info about the show, and certainly would get you an answer faster than waiting from February to May to hear from me.
But I am curious? How did you hear about the West Maneuver without reading issue #24? And if you read issue #24, why did you need to ask the question?
Hey Greg, not so much a question as congratulations on publishing your first novel, may it be the first of many. I already have "Rain of The Ghosts" pre-ordered on Amazon.
Thank you!!! The more pre-orders and first week sales, the better the odds that the nine-book series will get past the second book!
In "The Fix", Artemis mentioned that someone once tried to teach her Atlantean. Was it Kaldur, Garth or Tula? Or more than one of the aforementioned trio? Were other members of the Team given some lessons too?
<sigh> Watch the episode again. She clearly states that she took Atlantean during her Freshman year at college. (I mean, doesn't everybody?)
In response to an earlier question, you said that Wonder Girl is probably Christian with a "new respect for Amazon Pagan." Just curious, but if her dad is Zeus, wouldn't she believe in the Greek gods? Is Zeus perhaps not actually a god in Young Justice?
You're assuming she always knew her dad was Zeus. Heck, you're even assuming she knows that now.
Neither are safe assumptions. (Though one is safer than the other.)
i do not understand the ending of the young justice comic issue 10.
1.is Captain Adams evil?
No. I'm not even sure where you'd get that idea. Are you confusing Captain Adams with Wade Eiling?
I am kinda confused with this entire plan that Nightwing,Aqualad,Wally, and Artemis has to find out the light's new partner.
1.When did they find out the light had a new partner?
2.Who started the whole plan?
3.how did each person come to be in on the plan?
4. what is the difference with venom and cobra venom?
You've got the whole thing backwards.
They started out to infiltrate and bring down the LIGHT. Finding the new partner was something that came up along the way.
1. Watch the episodes. Sorry, but I'm tired of reiterating stuff that was 100% clear on the series itself.
2. Aqualad and Nightwing.
3. Watch the episodes.
4. Watch the episodes.
Artemis didn't seemed shocked when Cheshire mentioned Lian Harper. How long has Artemis known about her niece, and who else knows about Lian besides the characters that have already been shown to know?
I haven't nailed down an exact date when Artemis learned, but she learned AFTER Roy, if that helps.
An ever-widening handful of people know.
1.Do Zatarra and Zatanna have magic? 2.like are they magical beings or do their magic come from the spells they read?
3.and if so does that mean anyone can read their spells aloud and do what they do?
1. Is this a trick question?
2. The latter.
3. No. It takes training and focus and a certain natural inclination. The spells themselves are the icing on the cake.
1.Did aqualad know Kid Flash,Red arrow, and Robin before they became a team?
2.were they friends?
1. That's stated in the show. Yes.
2. Yes. Again, if you watch the show, you'd KNOW that Kid Flash and Robin were best friends, and that Aqualad's best surface friend was Speedy/Red Arrow. And they all knew each other and got along.
Why didn't Martian Manhunter bring Megan when the team went to the hall of justice?
I assume she was who they were talking about when they told martian manhunter that is was good that they didn't bring her and he agreed
I don't think he had quite decided what to do with her yet. He had more or less decided not to send her back to Mars, but he wasn't sure about the sidekick thing. Or if he wanted her revealed to the public.
in the comics Megan tells the team that she won a competition to be Martian Manhunter's sidekick but we later find out that that was false and really Martian Manhunter found that she had snuck into his ship.
1. How exactly did Megan convince Martian Manhunter that she was his niece?, 2.wouldn't he be suspicious of a girl in his ship?
3.is it true that he wasn't really certain that she really was his niece
1. He's psychic. Lying isn't too effective.
2. Initially, but he understood what she had gone through on Mars as a White Martian. And he was sympathetic.
3. No. What's true was that he didn't really know her at all. He has a LOT of nieces and nephews, and considering he's spent DECADES away from Mars, he does not have a personal relationship with very many of them.
If Bart Allan, Flash's grandson got superspeed does that mean flash's children got powers as well?
It seems logical. Plus, didn't Bart say he learned a trick or two from his dad?
How did Dick Grayson think up the name Nightwing?
That's a damn good question. I could write SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT. But the truth is, I don't know yet. It's something I'll need to figure out if I ever get to revisit those years.
How do Jaime Reyes's parents feel about his secret identity as Blue Beetle now that he has gone public as of the end of "Complications"?
Well, he didn't exactly go public. He opened up his face mask and showed that he was human, but he didn't give his name and social security number or anything. You couldn't even see his hair.
Still, I can't imagine they were pleased, can you?
When did Robin reveal his identity to Kid Flash?
When he was ready.
How can Sportsmaster look so young for his age? Are the Lazarus pits involved?
Crusher credits his youthful appearance to good genes and an extensive exercise regimen. Plus he eats right. No pits involved at all. Not even olive.
Was there an element of you fearing that having Donna Troy on the Team in season 2 would be too much like having a female Superboy around?
Nope.
This might be cliche, but what was your favourite thing about working on Young Justice.
Surely as we're all telling you how much this show means to us and has had an effect on us, no one's been asking you about your experience on the show. Since obviously the writer goes through a different experience than the fans.
And thank you so much for creating this amazing show!
You're welcome.
Um... there was a lot to love. I had a great partner, Brandon. I had great collaborators, including Phil and the other artists, Kevin and the other writers, Jamie and the ENTIRE cast (but particularly our regulars), Jho and everyone else in post, Lolita, Kris and Michael. David and so many other great people. They were all a dream to work with. The fan response was frustrating at times, but mostly and ultimately very gratifying. Voice recordings were always fun, but there's nothing like a sound mix when it all comes together. Plus, think of the characters I had the privilege to work on! And I'm proud as hell of the final product.
This just dawned on me...
1. Is the reason you didn't name Brainiac, well, "Brainiac" because that is actually the stage-name of Milton Fine, whome I suppose you are calling the Collector of Worlds was posessed by?
If this is true...
2. were there any plans on using Brainiac-proper eventually?
3. Is the Collector of Worlds from Colu?
4. Is his name Virl Dox?
5. Does he have a son? (I think you know where I'm going with this one...the L.E.G.I.O.N. seem like they would make a perfect fit in the show, as you've done so well showcasing aliens, alien planets, and the politics of the galaxy in general).
1. Huh? Sorry, I can't quite figure out what you're asking here. But the reason I used "Collector of Worlds" was because the name fit better. But we tried to pay homage to ALL of Brainiac's other names.
2. I'm not clear on what you mean by "Brainiac-proper". If you just mean the name, we've already used it. (Then again, maybe you wrote this before we did. In which case, I'm wondering why you didn't wait to ask until after the multi-parter was over.)
3. Have you read the issues?
4. We list many of his names in the comics: Vril Dox; Notlimenif; The Computer Tyrant of Bryak; The Brain of Colu; The Maniac of Yod. Plus Flash mixes up the last two and calls him the Brainiac of Izod.
5. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Greg I can't imagine no new Young Justice. I was really looking forward to another season because I know it would be crazy addictingly (a new word) good.
I was really looking forward to Starfire, since you guys said she's something you're thinking about for a season 3.
I just wanna tell you we are not giving up, we will always support Young Justice and make Cartoon Network air these episodes one way or another.
Hell, why don't you just go to another program?
Thanks for the amazing shows, Greg. You've been obviously told this before but you've got some talent. Cartoon Network obviously doesn't see it. It's their loss.
Um, I get along pretty well with the folks at CN. I really think the decision had less to do with me than with overall trends and the current version of conventional wisdom and economics than anyone at all thinking that YJ was a bad show.
Hey Greg, in War, I was curious as to why Blue reacted the way he did in the end RIGHT AFTER Cassie kissed Roy.
Did the situation trigger some more biochemical things going on that made him attack right then and there? I mean it could've been another time with the whole team. Who knows, I'm probably over thinking it.
& is there a reason why Blue knocked out everyone except Wonder Girl?
You're WAY over-thinking it. Blue Beetle was not in control of his own body. The scarab was under complete Reach control. They wanted the Crystal Key, and that meant they had to make their move at that moment to keep it. Plus it was the perfect opportunity to take out the entire Team. It had NOTHING at all to do with Cassie giving Roy a peck on the cheek.
I saw this quote and immediately thought of Superboy and Miss Martian.
"If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you won't give up. If you give up, you're not worthy. ...Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for."
Do you agree?
I don't actually. So let's break it down.
*My wife is amazing, and getting along with her was easy from the first moment we spoke together.
*I suppose it depends what one means by "easy", but by any definition easy does not mean that it won't be amazing.
*Is she's worth it, it's good not to give up - unless she's made it clear that she's not interested. Then you should give up and move on. Or else you're a stalker.
*If you give up, you might indeed be unworthy. But this SO depends on the circumstances. You might be the better man for giving up.
*Truth is, NOT everybody is going to hurt you - not in a significant way. You'd definitely be better off with folks who don't hurt you.
*No relationship is perfect, but if you're actually 'suffering', then I'd have my doubts that person is worth it.
Basically, I don't believe in the kinds of absolute statements this quotation is making. (I'd be nearly as suspicious if it said the exact opposite in the same absolutist manner. Nearly.) Worse, I think the statement suggests a romantic view of love through conflict which is antithetical to my actual personal experience.
Instead, here's my advice: The best lover/spouse/etc. you can find is one who is also your best friend. And friends don't make friends suffer. Or drive drunk. Etc.
1. How was Nathaniel Tryon (Neutron) captured by the Reach? 2. Was Nathaniel a Runaway like Tye and Eduardo?
3. What is Nathaniel's general backstory up to his kidnapping?
1. He was a runaway.
2. Yes.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
I would imagine Wally and Jade (Cheshire) have had a little contact because she is Artemis' sister. How do they get along?
Cautiously on his part. With amusement on hers.
Dear Greg,
Saw Complications, & dang! First off, I liked Slade getting more development, ever the schemer. And Megan was amazing this episode, single-handedly masterminding her escape & possibly gaining two new allies in the op. And man I'm happy to see Kal back to normal. But what I'm intrigued by was the end, when Dick used his detective skills to realize Scarab & B'arrzz. Man do I pity them when he gets a plan together.
Pass on my praise & I eagerly await the next episode!
Thanks! Hope you liked it!
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Eighteen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I'm on a bit of a roll. It's flowing pretty easy for now - but I really don't want to jinx it. I just finished writing Chapter Eighteen. It has some complicated visuals in it, so I hope I brought the imagery to life.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Nineteen.
Hi Greg,
I was wondering in the final episode of SSM (final curtain) was that really Norman Osborn at the airport? I am so sad that the series never got it's third season it was such a good show, but because it was cancelled that cliffhanger will never be resolved.
Yes. (Were you REALLY in doubt?)
Some questions about SpecSpidey...
Did you have any plan to reveal the origins of A)Hammerhead's... well, hammer-head
B)Tombstone's durable skin
c)the Venom symbiote?
A. Nothing specific, but I know exactly how it happened, and it was in fact hinted at in "Accomplices".
B. Not confirming or denying that he has that.
C. It came from outer space.
Hi. I realize that the companion comic book has been cancelled. Is there a possibility of some sort of a re-launch under a different title? It would give you a chance to tie up loose threads, and there might be a larger audience for it now that the show has been cancelled.
That was my thinking when Chris Jones and I pitched doing a book entitled "EARTH-16", but DC said it didn't fit their plans. Oh, well.
Even though at first Bart was only interested in Blue Beetle because of his part in the Reach apocalypse, did he genuinely grow attached to Jaime? Or was that all part of him keeping a close eye on Blue Beetle to prevent a disastrous future?
I think it's clear that they are legitimately friends.
O I forgot about another question I had: What is Martian Manhunter's new human biological age equivalent in 2016? We know Miss Martian's was 16 in 2010 and 18 in 2016, but for Martian Manhunter we do not know. (I am one of the frequent editors on the YJ wiki).
For all Martians, I take chronological age and divide by three and then I round up or down to the nearest whole number. I figure you can do the same.
I just wanted to say how much I like this show. You and the people working on this show have created a well structured, interesting story. I hope you get that chance to continue on to a season three.
As far as question, are Bart's parents alive in his time line?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
First of all, let me say that I am a big fan of you show YJ and I loved TSS while it was on. Watching season 2 I noticed the sheer amount of characters that are now on the show that you juggle. I read an interview in which you mentioned that the core 6 characters from season 1 are your main characters. But that doesn't really seem the case. Wally, for example, doesn't even seem a supporting character since he's almost completely MIA this season. Did you make a conscious decision from the beginning to shift focus away from the original characters or did the story just shape that way while you were writing it.
Another question regarding story, even though Wally is retired, wouldn't he come out of retirement when the world was threatened with destruction by Mongul in 'War'.
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED. Here mostly: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/youngjustice/backstage/interview12.php
The World's Finest: I personally believe that, even with the growth of the cast in the second season, Young Justice is still about the original core team introduced at the start of the first season. Would that be a correct statement to make?
Greg Weisman: Not exactly. I would say that the original core Team was more of a priority than some of the new characters. But fundamentally the second season was plot-driven. I don't think we sacrificed character, but characterization would have to come on the fly in service of the larger story. Season One was about us weaving a tapestry to introduce world, characters, conflicts, etc. Season Two had a single driving story (on multiple fronts) and the characters that have been emphasized - or at any rate received the most screen time - were the ones that the story required. So early in Season Two, you see more of Superboy - but less of him in the second half. On the other hand, Artemis barely appeared in the first half-dozen episodes, but her role became quite important, starting in episode 207 and forward. Blue Beetle, as a creation of the Reach, was obviously going to increase in importance as the season progressed and more and more of that connection and its accompanying dilemma were revealed. And because we only had 20 episodes in Season Two, rather than the 26 we had in Season One, I think it's fair to say that certain characters got shorter shrift than others. But the goal was never to give everyone equal time, but rather to make the most of what time we had to offer. I suppose one could make the argument that certain characters didn't need to appear at all, i.e. the fewer the characters, the more screen time there would be for those that made the cut. But (a) I'm not sure the audience would all agree on exactly who should make that cut, and (b) we had fun with every single character for as much or as little time as we could afford to give them. (I wouldn't choose to cut Wonder Girl just because her only big episode was "Beneath".) So instead, we just tried to be true to our continuity and introduce the characters that we felt would be there five years on. If some of those Freshmen - and even some of our Juniors and Seniors - didn't receive equal time with everyone else, I can live with that.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED. Who said he didn't? Lots of heroes were helping with the destruction caused by the Warworld's mere proximity to Earth. And if Dick had wanted him to join the Team for the raid on the Warworld, he would have come along too. But Dick didn't ask.
So, about Complications (which was an AWESOME episode, by the way)...
1)How did Crusher and Jade manage to find the Manta-Flyer?
2)Sportsmaster calls Deathstroke by his first name: does this mean that they are old friends/old partners/old something?
3)Speaking of Deathstroke, can you confirm that his full name is Slade Wilson?
4)How old is Deathstroke?
5)(This isn't directly tied in with the episode, but hey, since I'm here) How many years ago Aquaman and Manta fought for the first time?
1. Sportsmaster had contingencies in place before he risked any split with the Light.
2. "Friends" might be pushing it, but they've clearly worked together before. Just ask Ted Kord. (Ooh, sorry.)
3. Yes.
4. By the end of Season ONE, Deathstroke was 47.
5. I have not nailed down a specific year for that yet, but it was LONGER ago than the conception of Kaldur'ahm.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Seventeen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Seventeen. I like the ending of this one too. It's cheeky.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Eighteen.
When Miss Martian was wearing the inhibitor collar on Black Manta's sub, why didn't she revert to her White Martian form?
Her shape-changing abilities had been shut down by the collar. She was locked in to her current form.
