DisneyDVD> I know I will be buying at least 2 copies of any Gargoyles DVD that Disney releases. Maybe more, depending on the MSRP. I'm still not very excited about the Disney dvd tho. When I see pictures and a content listing, I'll get excited.

DPH> I sent the package via USPS. I've not had any major problems with them in the past. UPS guys here are about the same as in your area. There's one that delivers to my workplace about 3 times a week. That guy is a major jerk. He does get a signature, but he likes to set the packages down somewhere other than where the person signing is. I always stroll over and inspect the boxes before I sign.

I tested out your discs and they are fine. Like I said before, I had to cut and paste one episode. I can list how to piece it back together in an email, if you like. Or, you can just set it up in a playlist for media player.

I ended up using a different image for the latest dvd I created (city of stone parts 1-3). It is on the weblink if anyone is interested. I used white text writing and it showed up quite well against the blue lightning.

Well, I'm off to work on the next disc. Later folks.

Finally a light at the horizon:

Kryptonite Android writes...

With Disney's current obsession being the Direct-to-Video market have you considered approaching Disney about doing a DTV Gargoyles movie or continuing the series as a three part episode/movie. To bad your series couldn't be bought out by WB, at least they support their productive shows, ala Batman Beyond and X-men Evolution, with numerous airings. Also has there been any discussion regarding putting the Gargoyles Episodes out on DVD. I know that I would love to own the entire set of all three seasons (even the Goliath Chronicles) but it doesn't seem Disney has any interest in producing these. Any chance you could help the fans see some new Gargoyles DVD's? Thanks!

Greg responds...

I have approached them about this subject as recently as last year, and they are not currently interested in releasing an original Direct to Video.

As I've mentioned recently, Disney Home Entertainment is planning to release a DVD of the first season next year (2004). If the first DVD sells well, then they'll bring out more. And if they sell REALLY well (AND I MEAN REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WELL.) then I think they'd consider doing an original DVD release of new gargoyle or garg-related material.

Hmmm... sounds like we have a lot of Geruillia buying lying before us in 2004!!!!!

TODD> Pigeons are the rats of the sky. They carry many diseases in some cases. So, by ridding the city of these "rats," Golaith and Co. would be "protecting" the city... not from crime, but from disease.

Matt - <if its bad service (from UPS or FedEx) its almost certaintly a local problem. > I know it's a local problem, but it affects how anything is delivered. I've had stuff that was supposed to require a signature get dropped without a signature. Oops. What exactly does one do when the local people don't follow directions? Like I said, if they dropped something off and I didn't sign for it, who's fault is it if I don't receive the item? Would it really kill the delivery service to give somebody 5 minutes to answer the door or leave a note saying the item needed to be picked up? Please don't tell me there is a quota for number of items to be delivered per day.

Re: UPS - As far as UPS, Fed Ex, and whatever else goes, I don't think they need to get a signature for every package they deliver. Personnally, I like UPS alot. Everything I order comes on time and it isn't banged up or mutilated in any way. Usually when something comes Fed Ex out here it's late and messed up. All depends on who runs it in your area, I guess.

Re: Outfoxed - The first time I saw it I missed all the Xanatos/Fox stuff except for Fox's call to Vogel, so her being Renards daughter and being pregnant came as quite a surprise. When I finally saw the entire episode it made much more sense. As far as Renard lecturing Goliath and not being shocked or intimidated or whatever, it didn't surprise me as it seemed to fit right in with his character of an old man who's in contral and seen it all and done it all. He actually reminded me of my grandparents.

Thats all.

Yeah, I've had the same problems with them here as well. Problem is they're pretty much the only game in tow. The local FedEx is a thirty-minute drive from where I live.

Matt - <i work at UPS...... > I don't care. Where I live, they don't give good customer service. They'll drop off a package without bothering to see if anybody is home. Especially since I don't live within city limits, I'd suspect a signature to verify I got the delivery or I could turn around and claim it never made it to my house. I don't care if UPS sues for saying that, but, frankly, I haven't had good service from them.

I was reading the paper this morning and came across an odd little news story where somebody was employing hawks against the pigeons in New York as a means of keeping the pigeon population down, but the plan ran into problems when the hawk went after a chihuahua instead. That got me wondering about another creativity demon:

What if somebody tried to get the gargoyles to go after New York's pigeon population? Admittedly, I doubt that Goliath would be that interested in going along with it since he'd consider the clan's regular work of foiling crimes and protecting the Manhattan citizenry more important than intimidating pigeons, and it would probably only be feasible after people stop seeing the gargoyles as a lot worse than the pigeons. But that would certainly be amusing. (I wonder whether a lot of pigeons at the clock tower and Castle Wyvern must have wound up as nervous wrecks after hanging around the statuary past sunset too many times....)

When I first saw "Outfoxed" (it was one of the last I saw for the first time), I thought it strange that Reynard just started beratting Goliath without batting an eye about what he is. A lot like what Todd mentioned.

Hi folks.

This would have gone with the discussions about City of Stone, but I'm gonna ask anyway. I just finished part 3 and am ready to make the dvd for the first 3 parts. I'm a little stumped about the menu image tho. One that really works well is a pic of Demona standing in front of a full moon. It's from part 4 and I would like to have an image that comes from one of the episodes on that dvd, so I don't know if I want to use that one or not. Another thing is that I think of City of Stone as Macbeth's story just as much as Demona's. I would like to get a pic with both characters in it. I got one right when the spell is cast, but not sure if I want to use that one. I have one more that is right after the spell is cast. Both characters are looking at each other: Macbeth surprised (and maybe a little horrified.....he DID give up his youth...) and Demona having a smile on her face (maybe thinking, I got what I wanted who cares about this guy). I'm leaning towards that one right now. I have it linked to the web site on my name. Are there any other images from city of Stone 1-3 that ya'll think would be good?

DPH>> Success! I have finished your discs and will be sending them tomorrow. I had to cut a paste a little, but all the info is there. I do apologize for taking so long.

Now that I finished one give-away, I'm thinking about doing another......I'll reveal the details soon...if anyone is interested, that is ^_^

i remember me and a friend of mine in GRADE SCHOOL! talking about Fox being pregnant. we tried to think about what he/she would turn out like and figured he/she would end up being a good guy cuz we thought it would be crazy if X and F raised him/her to be evil or whatever and wouldn't make for as good of tv anyway. i remember thinking that maybe young Xanatos will be inspired by Elisa Maza to become a cop and even thought that it'd be cool if he/she was partnered with Broadway (the first Gargoyle cop). guess this was one of my early creativity demons..

DPH - Yes, I believe that that's quite probable, given Renard's mention of "one of Gen-U-Tech's abominable creations".

I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, since I haven't re-watched "Double Jeopardy" yet, but I've got to agree that Thailog's first scheme was definitely audacious. Arranging his own kidnapping and ransom, no less. (But not too surprising, given that he was learning the art of being a scheming, Machiavellian antagonist from a man who arranged an assassination attempt upon himself.)

I just recently re-watched "Double Jeopardy". I didn't really appreciate all work that Thailog went through with his planning until this viewing.

Saw my tape of "Outfoxed" today. One bit that I still find mildly amusing (even if I'm probably not supposed to) is the scene where Renard is lecturing Goliath about integrity. The reason why I found this amusing is that Renard is encountering a strange-looking bat-winged "creature" that looks as if it shouldn't exist outside of a work of fantasy fiction or art, and proceeds to speak to it as if it was an ordinary human about accepting responsibility for its actions (even comparing Goliath to every employee whom he'd ever fired for lack of responsibility). I wonder how many of us would think of doing that if we were to meet a gargoyle, or some other mythical creature, for the first time. I'd probably be too astonished at discovering that such a being existed to even think of doing such a thing.

I remember being surprised by the end where it turned out that Fox was Renard's daughter (I didn't even pick up on the significance of his name being Renard during the first viewing, though I get it now). I wonder how many people were expecting that. (Of course, another clue alongside the name "Renard" is the way that Xanatos and Fox were talking about Renard during the judo match scene; Fox's "He'll manage, he always does" indicated a level of familiarity that you don't generally have for somebody who's just another business rival.)

I liked Vogel's response to initially seeing Goliath ("On our tail, sir, we have - well, I don't know what we have"). Judging from how much calmer Renard was about Goliath's arrival on the scene, he obviously must have found out enough about Goliath from the reports that he had received about the initial Cyberbiotics attacks before "Outfoxed" to "get used to him", so to speak, and be able to view him as a potential future saboteur to be prepared for rather than a "What on earth is it?" (We know from the dialogue after he captures Goliath that he initially believed Goliath - and presumably the other gargoyles - to be something produced by Gen-U-Tech; I wonder if he'd gotten wind of Sevarius's Mutate project?)

I wonder, for that matter, how many people were surprised by Fox's pregnancy being revealed at the end? (I know that, first time that I saw it, I was very interested in what Xanatos and Fox's child was going to be like - though I certainly wasn't expecting what we wound up getting in "The Gathering".)

DERNHELM - The only connection between Gargoyles and the LotR movies (which I assume was what you were referring to, rather than the book - which obviously couldn't have any "Gargoyles" references in it since it was published in 1954-5) that I can think of is that John Rhys-Davies (the voice of Macbeth in "Gargoyles", of course) played the part of Gimli in the movie, and also supplied the voice of Treebeard.

Todd - I'm not sure how far the amnesia goes, I don't live in the states and only caught about three episodes while visiting Vermont this summer. From what I could tell people forgot just about everything except language, literacy and how basic bodily functions worked but managed to reconstruct a lot of their technology by reading manuals and books that survived the whatever it was that erased their memories.

Generally I don't care much for anime, but I loved "Big O." I haven't seen it in a long time, and I only saw maybe the 12 or so episodes that aired on Cartoon Network.
I don't remember it ever being revealed how everyone lost their memory. If I remember correctly all of the people just forgot their past one day, so I think it was something similar to what happened with Nokkar.

I was looking at imdb today, and it says that there was a reference to Gargoyles in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. I don't remember it, does anyone else know what it was?

Hey all,

Big O> I can't stay up that late, but I did tape it and I did a double take on the scene in question. The one on the left looked uncannily like Brooklyn, the one on the right looked a little like Goliath and a little like Othello. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed.

Thanks, Graymonk.

So, was this mysterious amnesia one that caused people to forget *everything*, or was it more the sort that causes you to simply forget your past while retaining general knowledge (like what Nokkar did to Elisa in "Sentinel")? And has it been revealed yet in the series as to what caused it, or does that remain a mystery?

10th!

Todd- The "Big O" is an anime series that I believe was created by several of the people who animated "Batman:TAS." It is about a man named Roger who acts as a negotiator between criminals and legitimate citizens in a city where thrity years ago everyone mysteriously forgot everything they knew. Roger investigates various mysteries and perodically uses a mysterious giant robot called the Big O to fight other giant robots that pop up. It's a neat noir/sci-fi series with some interesting ideas.
