I meant to do this months ago, but oh well...This past Halloween, I went out as Medusa. Click my name or copy/paste: http://www.sirens-grotto.com/Medusa.jpg You can't tell because I squint too much when I smile, but I was also wearing reptile contact lenses, so my eyes looked more like a snake's. It was fun and I got 3rd prize at the contest :)

Sheltie>You are very welcome! They are so great! The last concert I went to, I saw a new band called "Brother", like Seven Nations they play an different type of rock. They are from Australia. And besides the bass, guitar, and drums, they also had bagpipes, fiddle, and diger-e-dos (spelling is probably wrong). Those are the large wooden instruments from Australia. After Brother, Seven Nations took the stage. Twice they had Brother join them and the mix of so many instruments and the voices was just magical. It was beautiful and perfect. It got better and was a once in a lifetime experience!

BattleBeast>Okay, okay. I wish I could have seen that though

Happy New Year everyone. :)

Todd: You can also usually plug in a pair of headphones into the front of the player (some even have the old-school jacks that were common back in the 80's) and listen to it in stereo that way.

BattleBeast>You sure it was Goliath. Looking at those floats, they are the same ones used at Disney parks around the world for their light parade. Last time I saw it 2 years ago, they had a float of Cheranbog, the gargoyle from the end of Fantasia. It looked very much like Goliath at first due to the color and of course, the general shape. It was neat though. Wings opened and closed. When closed, it looked like Bald Mountain and then the wings opened to reveal him. Click my name or copy/paste: http://chiba.cool.ne.jp/lovelyattack/disney/fantillusion/fanti/chernabog.jpg
That is one from Disneyland Paris I think. The one in Orlango was more purple/gray in color.

Not that I wouldn't love to see a Goliath float, but I seriously doubt Disney would bother with it.

Matt - You didn't try for in 2004 so I had assumed you gave it up. Otherwise, unlike some upstarts, I would have left you that honor. I tried last year, but I posted too soon, by mere minutes. If you want the honor for 2006, show up around December 2005 to remind me and I'll let you have the spot.

Happy New Year, all!

Siren>> Seven Nations came to my high school to push "Seven Nations" back in (oh, geez - junior year, so...) early/mid-2001 and were awesome; I have that CD and "The Factory" around somewhere (or nowhere - lots of my CDs were stolen senior year).

Castle Wyvern>> As Todd said, Greg has hinted that there was a history of construction on or near Wyvern hill, though the incarnation the gargoyles were familiar with in 994 was built between 971-975.

I just thought of something. Some of you may be interested. My favorite band is "Seven Nations". Every heard of them? Unlikely...highly. They are based in Orlando, Florida and are by trade, a local band. But in the past couple of years they have toured the world. Even were on the Olympics several years ago. Seven Nations is comprised of drums, a bass, a guitar, a fiddle, bagpipes, and the voice of an angel. Yes, I said fiddle and bagpipes. They are a mix of rock, folk, and celtic. Some songs are overflowing in celtic sounds and then others are total rock. And Kirk McLeod's, the lead singer, voice is gorgeous. The songs they write are original. Now and then they cover something. I personally think their version of Boys Don't Cry was better then the original. But I know several Gargoyle fans are also fans of celtic music. This is something you might want to look at. Their newest CD, "And Now It's Come To This", is the most rock they've done. Their earlier CDs are more folk and celtic. Their best CD is "The Factory". And Kirk came out with a solo album, it was just him and a piano and let me tell you, it is my most played CD. I listen to it just about every night when I go to bed and then start it again in the morning. I am so obsessed with this band. And if you ever get to see them preform. What wonderful, honest, humble people they are. They will wait around to not just sign your stuff, but talk with you. They are the most approachable people. And they may not have hit Billboard yet, but just about every concert I went to had been nearly sold out. And 2 of them were sold out. And 2 outdoor concerts at art fairs were packed. There is nothing those boys could do that would make me turn away. Click my name to go to their website or copy/past www.seven-nations.com

Todd>So some other stone home then? Perhaps a smaller castle. The gargoyles wouldn't have needed such a large castle for the clan alone.

Looking at DVD Toons, I see Gargoyles is still number one with 53 votes. I hope it continues to rise though. Batman is still not far away.

Greg's indicated that the castle wasn't built until Prince Malcolm and his people settled there (in 971), before which time it was simply cliffs where the gargoyles lived. However, he also hinted that there had been an earlier building there, whose ruins were still extant by 971 (and which were incorporated into the building of Castle Wyvern).

Castle Wyvern>Well Demona said, "These cliffs were are home long before the humans came". Did she mean that Hudson and his clan had been there for many years before the humans came and the castle was pretty recent? Or that their ancestors lived on those cliffs? It deffinetly didn't sound like the gargoyles had the castle all to themselves. It sounded like it was just a cliff and that area was their camp or villiage or whatever gargoyles would live in besides a castle, church, or clock tower ;). I've always been interested in the reason why the castle would be named so. Least story-wise. I recall Greg saying the name sounded good, but I could be wrong.

Todd>I have that book and movie. :) Thanks though! :D

Kristen>Thanks. I've heard that song since it was first released and only just placed it on Goliath a few weeks ago.

You might be interested in Peter Dickinson's "The Flight of Dragons", which engages in its own speculation about "real dragons". Dickinson hypothesizes dragons as living dirigibles, who grow to the size they do to store enough hydrogen to gain buoyancy and fly, breathe fire as a means of burning off excess gas, and slept on golden hoards because gold was relatively soft and wouldn't tear their hides. It's great reading (I don't know if it's still in print, but any good public library should have a copy).

According to what I've read, the dragon that attacked Rouen was named Gargouille, and was actually slain, not by a knight, but by the local Archbishop, a fellow named St. Romanus, who afterwards placed Gargouille's head over the town battlements (leading to the custom of gargoyle sculptures, or so the story goes).

Haven't been on here in a while.

First off, Happy New Year, everyone!

Secondly, great video Siren! Loved it! Beautiful video. Poor Goliath, though, I just wanted to give the big guy a hug! LoL good choice of song too :)

Thirdly, still don't have the DVD yet. Didn't get it for my birthday or Christmas. Also, out of curiousity when I went to a store I'd look to see if they had the DVD. Best Buy, the Tuesday before Christmas anyway, did not. I looked under Disney and horror and everything, and it was not there. Checked out FYE a few days after Christmas and it wasn't anywhere there either. But I'm gonna find it and buy it - eventually! LoL!

Hope y'all had a great Christmas and great New Year's!

Animal Planet "Dragons"> I second the "looks cool" opinion. I'm a big fan of dragons; I have one tatooed on my right sholder. I doubt that this special is going to come of with anything conclusive about the existance of dragons one way or the other, but it should be fun to see them given the Animal Planet CG treatment, a la "Dinosaur Planet"

Castle "Wyvern"> I've been wondering about the origins of the name myself, mostly after Greg once said "Did you ever wonder where Castle Wyvern got its name?". It's possible that invaders may have mistaken the two-legged upright gargoyles for wyverns from a distance, but that's not much fun, is it? I tend to think the wyvern in question is probably the same as the dragon in the gargoyle expression "By the Dragon!". Since I think we've only heard Wyvern clan members use the term, it could be some sort of local legend or event involving a wyvern that inspired both the saying and the name of the castle. Or it could be a reference to the French legend of the Gargler. (I'm not going to attempt the actual French since I don't have the book in front of me and would probably end up looking ridiculous. But it is very close to "gargoyle".) The Gargler was a rather nasty French dragon who, in place of the usuall fire breathing, had the ability to spew torrents of water from his mouth. Being able to speak to human and being - as I said- rather nasty, The Gargler used this ability to flood towns and villages. To avoid this fate, the villagers had to cough up that favorite snack of nasty European dragons: virgins. The Gargler continued on like this until some knight came along and disposed of him. Because of his unusual ability to flood rather than burn, some people believe the Gargler was the inspiration for true sculptural gargoyles. (Remember, in stauary terms, our guys are really grotesques since they aren't waterspouts. Though I wouldn't want to be the person to try and sell a studio head on a show called "Grotesques".)

Jade> 8O As Hudson would say, "By the dragon!" That looks like a kick-ass special!!! We have to wait till March? Damn! The jury is still out for me on whether dragons existed. As they said in the program, EVERY culture. EVERY continent has dragon folklore. And even the idea of them all finding dinosaur bones and believing them to be dragons couldn't have rung true. What about the eskimos who saw dragons. Describing them in ways that sounded reptilian. Yet this was a culture that was more then likly to have never seen a reptile. How would they know scales? or those bat-like wings? They lived in a land of snow and ice where most of the animals were thick with fur and blubber, not with wings and scales.
Most of the descriptions are similar. They have wings for flight, scaley, reptilian, breathe fire or at least puffs of smoke, very large. The thought that such an animal couldn't take flight is ignorant. Because there are ancient species of bird and reptiles (pteradons) that DID fly and/or glide. And even the fire breathe cannot be completely disputed. Look at the bombarder beetle. It has two chemicals in it's body that are kept seperate until it ignites them and sprays them at an attacker. When they mix, they create small puffs of smoke and burning sensations to it's would-be attacker. If a tiny beetle can have such immense power for it's small size, why not a larger creature. Perhaps it never had fire, but something that simulated the burning sensation of it.

I also like on the show how they have different "species". My favorite has always been the Wyvern. The Wyvern is a dragon without forearms. Instead, like a bat, it's arms evolved into wings. It had backlegs and a tail to help as a rutter when in flight. Which was another reason why Gargoyles caught my interest...Castle Wyvern. I still would love to hear a backstory on why it was named so. I figured it was once a home for a Wyvern or a group of Wyverns. Or perhaps the bones of a Wyvern were found there.

Also Jade, thanks for the compliments. I respect your protectivness on your ideas. I am as well. I rather reveal it and then someone try to copy me, rather then them looking like it was THEIR idea. I am protective over my videos and stories. Especially on the internet...and being lately a surplus of trolls here, it's good to be protective over one's original ideas. :)

Happy New Year Everyone!

I went first footing last night for the first time, and got in about 5 this morning. Don't know about anywhere else up here, but in our village after the main party at the hall, groups of folk go round the estates & pile in to an open house for a few drinks, tattie soup & bannocks and maybe some music before moving on to the next, usually winds up with breakfast about 8ish at someone's house. Carries on tonight with other houses, I did have an invite but fending off a flu-bug so kinda had to pass. I have no voice left!

All the best folks

Happy New Year, everybody! Let's hope for 2005 being a great year.

Watched "Re-Awakening" on the DVD last night, the only "Gargoyles" episode in Season One that I hadn't watched on the DVD as yet. (Mind you, I'm also going to have to watch "Awakening" without the commentary at some point.) It's an appropriate episode for New Year's Eve, actually:

1. The wintry setting with all the snow (more snow than we've had in St. Louis so far this winter).

2. The turning point for the gargoyles as they vow to protect Manhattan and all who live in it, having a purpose beyond survival once again.

3. The first battle with Coldstone being in Times Square, the New York site that people are most likely to think of on New Year's Eve.

Happy New Year Everyone!!

When Gargoyles was on here in Australia they skipped a bunch of episodes. I have been trying to download them through Kazza for ages but I either can't find them or when I do its always 'More Sources Needed'. Anyway I was hoping someone here may know somewhere I can get them. Specific episodes I am after are - Hunters Moon Pt3, Mark of the Panther, Grief, The Journey, Golem, Turf and Leader of the Pack.

Thanks for any help.

Right now, it's 37 (Gargoyles) to 22 (Batman:TAS) for best DVD release of the year. We still got a mountain to climb, if nothing else, to show off and have more votes than everything else COMBINED.

Thanks for the adaptor advice, everyone!

2004 has been an interesting year. Of course, from the "Gargoyles" perspective, the big events were the tenth anniversary and the release of the DVD (which led to my learning how to work a DVD player). On a personal level, perhaps an equally big event (if not bigger) was my old grey cat Merlin passing on and Obie coming to my home to succeed him (and I'm very grateful for her presence in my life).

So what will 2005 hold? As the old cliche goes, only time will tell.

Indeed, an adapter would work. Also, if you have a boombox or other type of sound equipment that also takes those inputs, you can pipe the sound through that instead. That might even sound better if the speakers on your TV are of particularly low quality, which they tend to be for budget sets.

I posted my thoughts of the DVD set at Ask Greg, disjointed as they may be. I've been fighting a cold, so I'm still a bit light-headed. x_X

Todd-yes, an adapter is what you need. Just pop by a Radio Shack or local home entertaiment store(maybe a best buy) and ask for a "Y" adapter with 2 RCA Phono Female plugs to a single RCA phono male plug. Should cost you about 3 bucks or so. It will simply mix the stereo audio to mono. Also, explain what you need it for-so they don't screw it up. Some store clerks aren't as on th ball about this stuff as they should be.

BLAISE - Yep, the red plug is dangling, since there's nowhere to plug it in. (And I certainly don't want to get a whole new television set just to have a place to plug in the red plug, either. It'll probably have to be an adaptor - when I learn more about how they work.)

****With a great deal of grunting from beneath, a floor stone pops out of the floor, leaving Blaise to climb up out of the hole. He dusts himself off and then replaces the stone.**** Been without Internet for the past few days--the summer storm in LA, doncha know. I REALLY missed this place.
First a moment of silence for Jerry Orbach. He leaves behind a fabulous body of work. May he always be remembered.

TODD> Does your television only allow ONE of the audio cables to be hooked up? I mean, is there only a yellow and a white plug-in, leaving your red plug dangling? If so, then that's probably your problem.
A while back, I had that kind of TV and 2-out-of-3 connection, and sometimes the sound would be very faint or cut out entirely. Why? Because the DVD has stereo sound that was meant to take advantage of multiple channels through both plugs--if, for example a sound is coming from someone off the right side of the screen, then you would hear it coming from the right speaker, basically. Without the red plug, anything said by someone from off-screen right is a bit muted. Chances are, if you turned your sound all the way up you might barely hear Goliath's "That's enough."
So, it's not a problem with your GARGOYLES DVD or your new DVD player, just the connection.
Me, I wound up receiving a TV with all three slots as a gift. Maybe there's an adaptor you could find.

I might pop in around midnight PST, just to ring in 2005. Until then, farewell. ****Blaise climbs up as though on a ladder (although none is visible), pushes aside a stone in the ceiling, and climbs out through the hole, replacing the stone afterwards.****

SIREN - Thanks, although I discovered that the advice that you were giving earlier was about DVD players - and, no, mine isn't being covered by anything or being subjected to too much heat.

Watched "Temptation" on the DVD; no missing lines, although one or two of Demona's remarks at the Cloisters sound a bit fainter than I remember them on my videotape. One thing that I noticed for the first time; when Broadway and Lexington return to the castle and are heading for the television room where Goliath is reading and Hudson watching TV, Bronx lifts an ear intently as he hears them approach. No sneaking up on this puppy.

Tonight is New Year's Eve, or, over in Scotland, Hogmanay. In Scotland, it's supposed to be good luck for the first person across the threshold (or "first foot") to be tall and dark. Goliath could easily fulfill that role - although I'm not certain that there'd be that many households that would be keen on the idea of having a gargoyle for a first foot!

Thanks all for the compliments. I personally like the "digging for kyptonite" with Goliath digging through what he believes is his shattered "Angel" :)

Todd>DVDs are not more delicate then a regular music CD, so no need for any Fort Knox lock down. Treat it as you would any other CD. If treated well, they will outlast any VHS tape. :)
I personally abuse my CDs and DVDs. Leave them out of the cases. Sometimes laying them straight on my desk. Very few have ever been damaged. And in most cases, damage is minor. I've seen CDs work with a big crack right through the middle and the only thing holding it together is the label. Also, I notice that CD-ROMs/DVD-ROMS/etc play damaged CDs better then DVD and CD players. I'll have a scratched CD and it skips in my player, but put it on my computer and it sounds perfect.

I just wanted to tell all of you that Gargoyles is a best seller on Amazon.ca! We occupy the 66th position! Click my name to see for yourself!

Siren: I just finished downloading your music video, and I gotta say... it's absolutely beautiful! It captures Goliath's personality perfectly... except for that "funny red sheet" line, of course. ;) Great work! I love your videos! :D

Siren> Great video!

Currently listening to "Angel" by Shaggy, and thinking that that song would make a good gargoyles video... I know of at least one character named Angel (in part, at least at one time).

That is all I will say.

OTHELLO - Sorry, but those "spin-off stories" haven't been written yet. Greg Weisman proposed a number of "Gargoyles" spin-offs to Disney, but it rejected them all. So none of the actual episodes that would have aired on them if they had been made were written down. (And although Greg probably has some good general ideas for what stories would have been told in them, he's deliberately saying as little as possible about them in case Disney changes its mind and lets him go ahead and make the spin-offs after all.)

I should make it a bit clearer as to what form the omission took, in that it wasn't a skip. I saw the actual animation that accompanied Goliath's "That's enough" line - only the line itself was (apparently) silent. It's a line being muted, not a skip.

I store my DVD in the cupboard, though not underneath anything in it; is that a safe place for it, or a bad one? (I've never had any DVDs before this one.)

I remebered how great the show was, and how much of fan i am. I never new, thier was a huge Gargoyle fan base. I didn't even know, about the conventions every year. I thought, i was the only fan out thier, and now i know thier are others.

I'm happy with the way this one turned out. My main gruff is the at times terrible Season 2 footage. But it is all I got. The main line that doesn't fit Goliath here is "in a funny red sheet", but aw well. It's just a metphor anyways ;)

Todd>Being it was just one line that was skipped, it's more then likely to simply be a piece or dust or a hair on the disc. Check your disc before you put it in. If there is dust or hair, just blow gently to get it off. As you use your DVDs and DVD player more and more, you may want to invest in a DVD player cleaner (similar to CD and VHS cleaners in how they work) and you can buy something called DVD or Disc Doctor. It's a little machine that cleans up your DVDs. You shouldn't need either in the very near future as long as you take good care of the player and DVDs. So far, I have only had to clean 2 of my DVDs from my collection of over 200. And had to clean my DVD players just three times total, and I have 4 of them and have had them for about 2-4 years.

Todd: The quote played fine on my end. By any chance, do you have your DVD player sitting on anything hot, or covered by something? If so, uncover it and let it sit for a few minutes to cool off. Otherwise the unit will overheat after continous use and start malfunctioning. (ie: skipping video and audio, or flat out locking up entirely.)

Todd >>> Start up the episode again and fast-forward to that scene. See if it plays right this time, with the missing line. DVD players (at least in my household) have been known to hiccup occasionally, for whatever reason.

I watched the "Awakening" commentaries today. They were pretty cool, gotta say. They didn't bore me like a lot of film commentaries have. There was SOME info that I'd seen covered in the FAQ, but since I haven't gone through many of the Ask Greg archives, a lot of the character insights and fun facts were new to me. Oh and enthusiasm coming through the speakers counts for a lot. It's when the director/creator/writer drones on, sounding like a teacher who's bored with his class, that I fall asleep. Greg is a very engaging commentator though. Hopefully with any Season 2 tracks we may get, more actors and maybe writers will be involved and take a more active part in the commentary.

Vanguard>> In most situations like that, it's more likely you'll get results if *you* commission the artists. Most all the artists I know have enough on their plates that they're not seeking out ideas, so you'd be better served by looking for those who are taking commissions instead of waiting for one to contact you - you'll be waiting around for a long time.

If you thought I shuffled off, I'm posting to let you know I'm still around.

I was around a Tower Records, and my mom and I looked to see if they were keeping Garg DVD in stock. The television section had a card labeled "GARGOYLES" but no DVD! They have a separate Disney section: still no DVD. In the children section, no card but there was a white label visible from the top of one DVD: "GARGOYLES". I put it on a higher rack so it would be in front of the other DVD's on the rack. In another store, I found Garg DVD's in the Disney section with their own displaying spot. I wish I could say every store was thoughtful as this store was.

The complete first season was fantastic. The complex story parts of the second season demands a box set of the entire second season be made. I wish it was here, now. I have 28 episodes from the second season recorded, without a clue to their part of the story arc except when revealed at the start of many episodes.

Just dropping in to confirm I'm still alive, despite the best efforts of college, snow, driving through ditches, and wisdom teeth surgery to kill me!

Also, just a quick comment-- I've been careful to check for the DVD in every store I've been in that might be remotely expected to carry it. So far I've found it in a lot of weird places (ie, in the Family shelf instead of the area specifically reserved for Disney, etc) but I *have* been able to find it in 99% of the places I've checked: Best Buy, Suncoast, FYE, etc, in three different malls in three different cities. In one store they even had one of those little title cards that separate the titles! I was so happy I was tempted to take it ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing sales numbers; does anyone know where we'll find info like that?

I'm working on a new Gargoyles music video. Inspired by a song I have heard for a long time, but not until recently placed it upon one of the main characters. I leave the song and character a secret until I reveal the video. I wish to see if others agree with me on how it fits to the character. There are some lines that don't, but the overall message of the song, it very strongly resembles the character.
I shall try and finish it tonight, but I have to re-record several episodes to my computer to get it done. So it will take several hours just to compile the episodes I need.
Dum-de-dum...watching The Mirror now. To this day, the animation is still some of the best of the series. And of course the story itself was wonderful. And Puck...well what more can I say that everyone else hasn't? ;)

And please, oh please, Disney, give us Season 2, so that I may also make these videos look 110% better. My VHS aren't always the greatest quality. *sigh* So long as the message gets across, that's all that counts, but looks help certainly.

Continuing to gradually watch the episodes on the Gargoyles DVD. Today I watched "Enter Macbeth", and am continuing to notice little bits that I hadn't before, such as:

Macbeth has a portrait of himself in his house.

Goliath and Macbeth's voices have a slight echo during the scene in the mirror maze.

I still have to watch "Awakening" without the commentary, as well as "Temptation", "The Edge", "Long Way Till Morning", "Her Brother's Keeper", and "Re-Awakening".

Gantros>I'll be making a gargoyle costume this year for Mega-Con. This is what I got so far:

Wings: I actually found demon/gargoyle latex rubber wings at a Halloween costume shop this past Halloween. They are red in color but are easy enough to paint with latex and acrylic paints mixed together. It also included a latex rubber tail. The tail has a demon triangle point which I trimmed and was easy to do so. The tail pretty much was flat and limp, so I added wire inside to give it lift and flexability. Also when I walk, it sways and bounces and looks quite natural. Also the wings have one claw at the top and each point at the bottom ends in a nice claw as well. For ears, I picked up "demon" latex ears. These are ears that resemble the goblins and orcs of LOTR. They are very large and cover my entire ear nicely. Unlike the little elf ear tips which are harder to keep down, no matter the strength of your spirit gun. They also have a nice, realistic texture. I have fangs that you simply slip on. You make them yourself to fit you gums and incisor teeth. I can drink with them, but no hot liquids cause they'll melt. I can also eat soft foods with them as well. The foot part boggles my mind. I have tried several attempts at making them but have come up with disasters and ruined a lot of shoes in the process. My gargoyle character I plan for Mega-Con will be fairly easy, cheap, and simply because I am lazy this year. I don't plan to use body paint. My character will be the same color as my skin. For the feet, I plan to simply slip on my Mintonka (spelling wrong) knee high boots. They are very medievil looking, tan in color and match my dress quite nice. My dress I am using is something I have used for years on a variety of characters. From medievil bar maids to pirates. It was a dress I bought at Wal-Mart of all places. I had customized it. I brought the cleavage down quite low and then I chopped up the bottom to shreds. As well as the arms of it too. It will make a perfect dress for a gargoyle warrior.

My daughter will also be dressing up as a garg. We found pre-made scalely dragon wings and tail. She had a medievil outfit from the renn fests we hit, medievil boots as well. And she'll use my elf tip latex ears. :D

I will also say with the hand problem. Claws and stuff. Check online Halloween stores. They sell latex hands that can be repainted. And the hands come in all styles. Many have clawed hands. They are neat. If you do repaint latex, remember to dilute your paint with a touch of water. If you don't have an airbrush, do NOT use paintbrushes. They leave unsightly brushstrokes that are impossible to get rid of. So if no airbrush is available, use a sponge that you can buy at any craft section of Wal-Mart or craft store. Also, mix any paint you use with some latex paint. And not the type you use on walls. You have to get latex paint that is used for make-up. Check Halloween online shops as well as Ebay for it. And for best results, paint a very small area first and then give it 24 hours. After that check out the pain for chipping and peeling. If there is any chipping or peeling, add more latex paint to your mix. For even better results, buy TWO sets of hands/wings/whatever you are painting, so you have a test subject before you know exactly what is the perfect mix.

My review of the Season One DVD is up! Somewhat delayed between my trip to Walt Disney World, a slip on the ice which resulted in me dislocating my kneecap (I'm mostly fine now), and the holidays. I was surprised how hard it was to write this; my boyfriend theorized that it's tough to write about stuff you're really close to and I think that's true. I didn't cover everything I wanted to (most notably absent are sections on the voice acting and music), but I felt it was already running long. But I did cover what the special features are and why the show is so awesomw. And it starts with my very very favorite piece of concept art.

Enjoy!

Actor Jerry Orbach, longtime star of the 'Law & Order' television series, died from prostate cancer on December 29, 2004, his manager told a New York City radio station. Orbach, 69, earned a reputation as the quintessential New Yorker through his work in films such as 'Prince of the City' and 'Crimes and Misdemeanors.' He was also 'Lumier' in Beauty and the Beast for Disney.

Battle Beast:> Digital cameras/camcorsers have both a "Digital" and "optical" zoom. "Optical" zoom is what you get on every zoom camera. On a digital camera the "digital" zoom acts an an extention of the standard "optical" zoom. It takes over after the optical zoom is at its max. But it zooms in on the pixils so the resolution degrades the tighter you go. It's like zoming in on an image in Photoshop.

Watched "The Thrill of the Hunt" on DVD; I've taken a while longer to watch the Gargoyles episodes on DVD that don't have commentaries to them, since I've seen them before, but I've got to admit that it's certainly great to see them with such a clear picture (as opposed to my videotapes of them).

I still think that this is (despite the seriousness of Lexington's hero-worship experiencing a big letdown) in many places, a very funny episode. The parts that still stand out to me are the Pack's live appearance with the comically over-the-top (almost Sevarius-style) announcer with such lines as "Oh, no, it's the Evil Ninjas", and when Billy and Susan show up eagerly asking the Pack for autographs just as they're about to finish off Goliath and Lexington (with wonderful expressions on Fox and Hyena's faces over such timing).

A few other things about the "Awakening" commentary that I forgot to mention:

1. One portion of it that amused me came during the point where Greg and Frank were commenting on the gargoyles' first fight with the commandos and Frank calls Greg to his "Nice mask" line that he had almost missed in the excitement.

2. There is one place in the commentary, in Part One, where I do disagree with Greg in his interpretation of one of Goliath's actions, when Goliath sends the trio and Bronx down to the rookery. Greg commented that here Goliath was in the wrong and Demona (for once) in the right, when she protests that it was the humans causing all the trouble and yet he's punishing the gargoyles for it.

In fact, I've always sided with Goliath on this decision of his. Lexington, Brooklyn, and Bronx were fighting back - understandably, of course - but still it struck me as inadvisable for them to do so. After all, the reason why the humans in the castle treated the gargoyles so badly was because they were afraid of them, and the reason why they were afraid of them was because gargoyles appear threatening to them; they're bigger than humans, stronger, have claws strong enough to dig into stone, could easily tear apart a human to shreds. Charging at the humans with eyes glowing and a lot of growling and snarling is only going to reinforce those fears, and escalate the situation. So I'd definitely look upon Brooklyn, Lexington, and Bronx's response as extremely inadvisable, and requiring some discipline.

(Where I do view Goliath as in the wrong was sending Broadway down with them, since Broadway wasn't taking part in the scuffle but peacefully eating at the time; it was a bit like a kid getting detention at school for merely being in the same room as some other kids who were getting into mischief. On the other hand, Goliath's action saved Broadway's life, so I'm not inclined to criticize him that much over it.)

I figure if I'm going to only go to this convention once, I'm going to go all the way. That includes cosplaying. I'm currently designing some costume pieces with emphasis on realism. It's all in my head right now but I've come up with some pretty good ideas and would like to share them with you to see if you might have suggestions of your own:

1.) Brow ridges: Basically have a rigid head band with horns on it. My design is wraparound ramlike horns, think Coldfire's horns but pushed together over the brows and wraps like a visor to point to the back. This will hold one's hair up in a a spiky, anime-like style.

2.) Tail: segmented pieces of plastic pipe cut so each segment can pivot on an XY axis. The segments eventually become smaller. the base is strapped to the tailbone (just above the buttocks) with a belt harness to hold in place. the tail is wrapped in swimsuit fabric. The light elasticity will allow the tail to "slither" with standard body movement, adding to realism.

3.) Hands: Custom made latex glove made from a homemade mold. Glove extends to elbow to include elbow spurs. Mold can be made by using Plaster of Paris on arms, and placing modeling clay over arm castings to make garg hand gloves. simply paint and trim gloves

4.) Feet: Ths one I'm still having trouble working out. The only solution I've come up with so far is to have something akin to high heels and stilts with heavily weighted false toes to keep from falling backwards. But that doesn't seem practical.

5.) Wings: hard rubber or plastic tubing shaped into the wing frame. Hinges will allow them to extend or fold across back, opening with bicycle brake lines hidden in tubing and pulled by rings attached to a belt, which coould then be held in place by hooks on the belt. Again strapped to back using a harness of some kind.

The harnesses could be hidden by baggy/loose clothing, and reduce the need for makeup to a minimum.

Kathy: (Travel expense figuring) It might seem confusing.. but it really isn't. I've got it all down in an Excel spreadsheet. :)

DPH: (experience) Yes... need experience to get a job in order to get a job... shall I confuse everyone even more with this unending paradox...

Sales, pushiness, et al...: I don't think I'm the type that will push something onto someone. I give them the info, then hope they can make a decision based on that. The only bias they get is their own. BUT... if I'm able to know what they plan on using the product for, or whatever.. then I can more easily identify what will fit their need/desire.

I really just want a job in theatre.. but we don't necessarily have theatres around here hiring... we don't even have the theatres.... I'd start my own business.. if I had the money to. And an idea that'd work.

:)

I don't think they know squat about their products. Sadly, the best 'computer' store in my city is Office Depot, unless I want to drive 30 - 60 minutes to go to my capital city.

What amazed me was able to stand around 30 freaking minutes looking over printers . . WITHOUT a sales agent coming by. If I'm casually looking, I'll spend 10 minutes max in a department. If I spend 20 minutes, I'm seriously debating about what to buy. If I spend 30 minutes, somebody better find the guy who gets money off of sales commissions and bring him to me so that guy can get a fat paycheck.

Patricia - < just trying to get a job so I have something in terms of experience.> The old catch-22. Well, my type personality is such that I can't do sales (not pushy enough).

Gargoyles-related trivia note for today: December 28, 1065, was the date of the dedication of Westminster Abbey - where, over nine hundred years later, King Arthur and Griff would meet for the first time.

Last night I watched some more of the Gargoyles DVD. To wit, "Deadly Force" (my kitten Obie sat up when Cagney started meowing), and then the extras of Greg's original pitch and the Gathering documentary.

One thing that stands out to me about the original pitch was that, even though "Gargoyles" had by this point switched genres from comedy to drama, the art still had a fairly comedic look about it. To be precise:

1. The picture of Goliath reading back in the 10th century, while seated on a few smaller gargoyles to keep them from running off and getting them into mischief (that's one way of doing it, though they clearly didn't seem too enthusiastic about the idea).

2. Goliath and Elisa on a subway train with Goliath concealed by a lot of thick clothing - but even so, the other passengers are still staring at him. (I admit that I can't imagine Goliath doing that in the finished version; even when the trio don their costumes for Halloween in "Eye of the Beholder", he's contented with his regular look.)

3. The definitely comical portrayal of Bronx as chewing on fire hydrants (he actually seems to have become semi-anthropomorphic there).

And I've got to admit that the picture on the DVD is really a lot clearer than on my old VCR tapes. Now I'm eagerly awaiting the Season Two DVDs.

Chameleongirl>> I've been to some 'industry' cons (for students)... I should've chatted withthe National Geographic people and the AP phototgrapher this summer... but oh well.. I was inspired by the AP Photographer to not be afraid to put an artistic spin on a photo (though I had been doing that for a while... ok, 6 months or so.. ok, a year. Or more. hah.) I've just been lacking on taking photos... :( I seem to fall into the "Good artistic shot of a news story" more than "Good newsworthy photo with an artistic flavor"... then there's what the editor wants: Clear photo showing content. Ugh.

Wow.. tangent, sorry. lol.

But yeah, I've been to some cons... one is a smaller version of 'the other' con in Vegas. I hope I get to go to the smaller one again in Feb... hopefully I'll get some info (though by that time it should be relatively LATE. woo. But maybe it'll give me insight into fine tuned details.. heh.)

One thing I found out in figuring out costs for Vegas.... Plan A (Fly two trips) costs roughly $430 a day. Plan B (Fly one trip) costs roughly $210 a day. Plan A costs roughly $165 less than Plan B. heh.

The Gathering alone would be right at $908.. the other con is $1226. heh. Actually.. that's 2 in one.. cause there's another even going on that weekend that I'm trying to get to. lol. So it's like 1 extra night, 1 more day than the Gathering. heh :)

I've got the things split up (I might split off the third event's costs and see it by itself...) so I can see, given how much $ I have, lets me know what I can and cannot do.

:)

Re: Best Buy for job: I was thinking about applying there for a job.. I mean, why not.. The Shack didn't like the hours I could work.. now I have new hours, but still similar.. maybe I can get a job there (BB). But right now, they've got workers from the holidays... and they will cut down the workforce in Jan or Feb.. sooo.. yeah. :S

Hello everyone,
It's been quite a few years since I've posted here. I'm actually posting because I've got some Gargoyles figures for sale. These are custom painted figures of Elisa as a Gargoyle, Delilah, Brentwood, Malibu, and Hollywood. They all turned out very well but I just don't have room to display them anymore. I also have Angela and Thailog but I'm not quite ready to let go of those yet. :) Anyway, let me know if you're interested. I can send you pics anyway if you'd like to see them.

I finally did it. I went out and bought a DVD player. It took me a little while to learn how to set it up (since I'd never operated one before), but I did so and watched some of my Gargoyles DVD this afternoon: "Awakening" with the commentary by Greg, Frank, and Keith on, all five parts of it.

(I will confess towards a slight nervousness in operating it; I often feel a bit uncomfortable when using a piece of technology that I'm not familiar with, since I keep on fearing that it'll act up. Even today, I still get a bit nervous on the Internet for fear of some computer glitch disconnecting me permanently, or a virus on the loose. This is why - for me - books will never replace computers; you don't have to worry about all the pages in a book going blank because of an electronic error. Certainly learning how to operate the menu and special features took a little while.)

At any rate, the commentary's a lot of fun (though I should warn people that they give away a number of things about the series as a whole during it, including Owen being Puck, so you should watch "Awakening" with the commentary off if you're just getting introduced to "Gargoyles"). Many of the things brought up in it are familiar (how it used to be a four-parter but was expanded to a five-parter, the debt that "Gargoyles" had to "Gummi Bears", "Hill Street Blues", and Shakespeare, Salli Richardson being the model for Elisa's appearance), but a few were new to me:

1. When we get a glimpse of the "Alice in Wonderland" statuary during the scene where Elisa's being chased by the Xanatos Goon Squad, Greg comments that Elisa, in coming into contact with the "secret world" where living gargoyles exist, has gone "down the rabbit hole" just like Alice.

2. When discussing how Demona's eyes glowed red, unlike the white glowing eyes of Goliath and the other gargoyles, Greg and Frank remarked that it was originally because she was the villainess, but then realized that this was inappropriate since a major theme of the series was not to judge by appearances; therefore, glowing eyes should not change color to reflect that their possessor was evil. So they decided that the red glow came from her being a female gargoyle, and gave Angela the same quality when she was introduced in Season Two.

3. They confirmed a suspicion of mine that Demona's line about "a thousand years of solitude" was a little hommage to Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

I haven't seen any of the other 8 episodes on the DVD as yet, or the Gathering documentary and the original pitch; I'm saving those for another occasion. But it's great to finally get to see the DVD - and it's certainly much clearer than my old tapes.

I'm thinking of going to the Gathering this year... but that depends on how much money I am making pre- and post- graduation (College, yay!)

Seeing as there's another con thing that starts Aug 3... I'd be in Vegas for either 11 days straight, or for a break in there (there's 2 days where I could be home... )

Everything I'm figuring I'm figuring I'd be in Birmingham (living there, too) sooo heh.

I just want to travel.. I love it, and adjust to it really well, but I haven't been able to do too much (mostly driving trips.. that wind up being a day).

Anyways.. yeah.

Oh.. for 2 cons (minus con expenses, like registration, etc) it'd cost me... over $2,000... with the con expenses, I'm looking at $500 more. heh.

I know the second con'll have a Hoover Dam trip, a Stratosphere deal, and a visit to NYNY, to walk across their Brooklyn Bridge. heh. There's other stuff, but I can't remember much (plus I don't have it HERE, it's all in my dorm room). Though.. since that one's being held at the Riviera...... I'd get to see other stuff around anyways. heh.

Yes.. I AM insane. heh. This is allll wishful hoping... seeing as I'm trying to get to Dallas for the end of my Spring Break... heh. :\

Enjoy my ramblings >_<

Phoenyx > Hello fellow Tennesseean! Gatherings are great fun. They tend to include random nonsense, sleep deprivation, nonstop talking jags, hilarity, random meals, hi jinks and everything else you might expect when friends who only see each other once a year get together. Don't worry if you don't know anybody at the outset, by the end of the weekend you'll have at least half a dozen new chat buddies and probably a couple of pen pals.

For more information and to hook up with other con virgins, head over to the G2005 site ::click:: I'd suggest you peruse the Forum. You can post wanted ads or answer other people's seeking roommates and travel buddies. Ask question of the staff or hang out on The Strip.

We're working on a full slate of events for during and after the convention. In fact, the staff is headed for Las Vegas next weekend, to check out the sights!

Don't delay, registration rates go up January 1st. So get a start on your New Year's resolution to quit procrastinating and register now!

Okay yall. forgiv e me. I kinda haveta vent. I sprained my wrist on Christmas day. I slipped on the ice trying to make sure my grandma didn't. It's a good thing I'm not left handed. Grumble grumble. Okay, venting done. I got not one but three copies of Gargoyles on DVD for Christmas. PLus the fact that I had already gotten my own Copy off of Amazon. My crazy family appearntly never talks to me about what I already have. Sillys. Oh well. It's a good thing that I knwo other people who like the show. I'm regifting folks!! Te he he. Sorry. I just got to work and, for some reason, I am a little giddy.
Um, does anyone else notice how the animation style changed around the "Enter Macbeth" Ep? Or was that just me? I just thought that the style changed fromt he beautiful smooth animation to more jerky movements. Feel free to correct me if my though is erroneous.

VANGUARD - Well, there aren't any now (since they're not on the "currently existing clans" list at "Ask Greg"), but there could have been gargoyles in Russia in the past, in light of Goliath's remark about how there were once clans all over the world. But we don't know the details. So far, the only thing that Greg's said regarding Russia in the Gargoyles Universe (as best as I can recall) is that he had plans to eventually introduce Baba Yaga into the series, though without mentioning the context. (Though that ought to have been fun to see, though not too much fun for the gargs; knowing Baba Yaga, she'd want to find out, like Hyena, whether gargoyles taste like chicken.)

Sorry for the 2x Post:

Third :)

Nice to be back here.

Any news on sales figures and Disney's plans for the future yet? I'm so anxious. Greg said that Disney wanted the DVD to succeed and had an advertising budget. Based on that, the budget must have been $10 and the expectations is 15 copies. If that is true, and I pray that it isn't, then congratulations!--a second season DVD is on the way! :)

And to that spammer(s):
Get A Life--This is for FANS of the show.

(Puts Alex into laser-secured playpen and sets security system.)

Dare to return, B.D.?

I hope not.
