A Station Eight Fan Web Site
GANTROS> I don't think Greg even really has an interest in reading fanfiction. He has mixed feelings on it. On the one hand he's flattered and gratified that people love the series enough to invest a lot of time in it, on the other hand he's a little territorial also. Doesn't like seeing other people controlling the destiny of his characters. I think most fanfic writers can relate when it comes to their own original characters.
But for the most part, he feels that if it keeps the fans interested, then great.

Demonskrye> No, I haven't been able to find a copy yet, it's sold out ever time I go to the store (Fry's Electronics).
On another subject, I've been toying with this idea for awhile now, and wanted to out and say it. We all know that Greg refuses to read any Fanfic so that he can't be sued for taking someone's idea if Gargoyles is ever brought back. I was thinking that someone could get a legal document written up, permitting Greg to read the works of the authors who sign the document without fear of legal action should he ever apply anything, regardless of how derivative, he reads to a future project, be it Gargoyle related or not. It could be signed by a notary to make it official. I figured it could be presented to him at some future Gathering or something. Is this a bad idea? Or am I asking something that should not be explored?

MATT - Yes, we probably need to come up with some better topics. Though that's the problem with a forum dedicated to a series that hasn't had a new episode for eight years. After that amount of time, you tend to analyze every episode to death. :)
Clancy Brown also did the voice of Mr. Freeze in "The Batman", although its adaptation of Mr. Freeze was a lot less interesting than the "Batman: TAS" version (except for the impact that he had on Batman).

I was watching Superman:TAS DVD Volume 1, I was watching the episode "The Way With All Flesh", when I noticed that the "Young Doctor" sounded EXACTLY like Owen. I waited for the credits and confirmed that the Young Doctor was played by Jeff Glenn Bennett.

Fantasy Authors>> I hear Piers Anthony being mentioned. Interesting.
I would like to add that Greg wouldn't necessarily need to find a big-name author for a talented, experienced collaborator. There's a lot of cool stuff below the radar in SF/Fantasy circles, IMHO.

Pheonyx: I got the one you sent to me while we were talking over AIM (on the third), but nothing after that.
Its unlikely that I'll be able to check for any further e-mails after I post this message since I'll be leaving for Nashville in just a few hours to catch a plane to LAX. He passed away the day after we talked. (For those not in the know, my grandfather had a quad bypass two weeks ago. Just after the operation was a success, he got a staff infection which made him very weak. Weak to the point where he needed to be on a respirator to survive. He passed away while he was under sedation.) I won't be getting back until next late Sunday at the earliest. If I do have net access, it will be quite limited for obvious reasons. I know that atleast a couple of you do live in California, but I'm honestly not really feeling up to meeting anyone right now.

I don't know if anyone here besides me watches "W.I.T.C.H." on ABC Kids, but there was an interesting line in this morning's episode that I wanted to share. Blunk (the little green smuggler - though he prefers such terms as "discount importer" or "retailer") mentioned having a jar full of "gargoyle sweat".
I don't think that this was intended as a reference (though if a line like that were to show up in Season Two, I'd probably suspect otherwise), and gargoyles (living or otherwise) certainly are a natural for fantasy series in general, but I still think that it's fun to mention here.

I run Norton Antivirus on all my computers, and my broadband router has a firewall. If you want to scan your computer for spyware, there's a free program out there called "Ad-Aware" that you can download and run. I don't have the link right now, but if you Yahoo or Google it, you can find it easily enough.

Now that, I think I can help you with. There was a promotional offer that I received after installing SP2 from cd from Microsoft and Computer Associates for a suite of computer security devices called eTrust EZArmor. After you install SP2 on the infected computer, the Security Center will pop up on the screen and tell you what is running and what is not, or a good chance something has not been installed. You will find the Antivirus section, and it may say it is not installed, and a link to see recommended software. Click on this and you'll be taken to the web page with the recommendations, and if you see EZArmor in that list, check it out. The offer I had was all subscriptions free for the first year and such-and-such amount for the next, though I can't tell you honestly if you would receive the same offer. But I can tell you that all in all, it hasn't let me down and will be worth every penny once it is time for me to pay for it.
There are viruses out there that will keep you from viewing Microsoft web pages, so if you are unable to view the page, chances are, the source of that problem is somewhere on that computer.

With a spambot, it's more likely that the program just surfs the web looking for pages that are text entry forms for message boards. In which case, changing the filename is not going to matter.

If that's the case then it had to have received it's instructions from someone who has visited here in the past. Changing something just a hair bit slightly can throw it off completely. Let's say, change the name of the input field, currently it's cmntadd.php, to cmmtadd.php, makes a big difference. Any computer would say that the file has been changed or moved or flat out doesn't exist simply by changing that 'n' to an 'm'. Of course that would mean the program's operator would have to come out of hiding, and look for the change. Keep changing it like that periodically and whoever it is will probably give up and bugger off.
One thing that hasn't gone unnoticed...
...Not quite as active now than it was in the past.
Anyway, click on my name to see what I came across tonite. No, you haven't slipped into a wormhole in time, although that would be nice...

Spambot>> "Online poker" is the result of a program designed to place spam on message boards.
New venues for Gargoyles>> As I have said before, my favorite venue would be novels. However, unless Greg has experience writing novels (I'll have to check his resume), I'd sincerely plead for him to collaborate with an experienced fantasy/SF author.
Can anyone think of some sort of trial project that could convince Disney and publishers that there is some money in a Gargoyles novel?

Online Poker is most likely a spambot. A real person would have realized after the first attempt that this forum doesn't support inline clickable hyperlinks like forums such as ezboard do. So once a week we will get a little clutter. But that's okay. This time of year, a little kindling for the fire is nice to have.

i'm way over it now, and i appreciate your apology, but actions speak louder than words. stick around the Comment Room and play it cool like you have for the last few days and i don't think any fans are gonna have any problems with you. everyone in here has different opinions and its great to debate those opinions, but don't be a troublemaker. thats just silly.

"Brian> I was looking for a February ____, 2005 date (fill in the blank). Now that that whole fiasco from last week is over, I don't think that Greg would die of heart attack if he came in here. So, any actual dates?"
Sorry. I do not recall what he said the possible date was. I'm not able to answer that.
Wouldn't surprise me in the very least if he already did. I know that may be a dumb joke, but I feel I have something I really have to spill. Since the whole thing started here, I think here is the best place to put it.
I've just come to realize that the whole fiasco is an end result of my own pig-headed arrogance more so than what little of everyone else's that was contributed to the pot, including the rabbit trails and sidebars created from the whole Lexington ordeal in the beginning. For being a fan of the series I have to admit that I blew it bigtime, not only for myself but the rest of the fandom as well. Come to think of it I don't think Greg would think too highly of it either. For years I've had a dream of it coming back, and it's always been "I want to see it back as this" and "I want to see it back as that" stating my own views and blowing off all of the other ones. And if that isn't enough I look through the Ask Greg archives, question and pull this big nasty prank on myself and even worse I bring Matt into it...
It's just not cool. I've been a fan of the series for nine years now and I haven't to this day ever wanted to let it go. I wouldn't be surprised in the least despite being one of the biggest fans of the series, I could very well be the one with the kill switch.
Once history is written it is final. I cannot change what has already happened nor can I stop the fans of the series from hating me, including Matt, Una, Mr. Sobotka, and anyone else I don't yet know about though they already know who they are. I'd like to try to fix it but I don't know where to start.

Siren: oh you'd love those anime conventions, from the pictures i've seen and the stories i heard, it's alot of fun. There's people there in all sorts of costumes, dumb and really good. You should try going to a visual-kei con aswell, that's one of my first priorites. I think they have smaller die-hard cons in california and las vegas. A big one is sakura con, i would think gargoyles would fit right in. The only bad thing is it's not anime, it's american animation. But nontheless would still be fun, many people would end up asking questions and give the series a much needed boost.

Sorry for the double post, but if Gargoyles could not come back as an animated series, I would love to see it one of 3 ways...
A monthly comic written by Greg, as well as the other writers of the show. Perhaps having guest writers. Like Michael Reaves. I would also love to see Joss Whedon or Michael Turner take a stab at it.
A graphic novel, which is pretty much the same thing as the comic, but perhaps it comes out quarterly, thus having much more story for one book.
And lastly, novels. Just your regular run of the mill ones. Like they do with Star Trek and Star Wars. It wouldn't have pretty pictures, but we all know what they look and sound like, so it really doesn't matter if it didn't have pictures to go along with. Thus is the point of a novel.
I do wish Disney would allow Greg, Michael and other writers to do something with it.

Siren and CKayote > Don't forget to take flyers! The latest one can be found by clicking my name! Or at the G2005 website under Promote Us!
Chameleongirl > Thanks! That's the ticket. You can also leave reviews at Ask Greg unless they've closed the queue or at Amazon.com. Both are places that Disney execs are aware of.
Dan > Buena Vista knows exactly how many units they've shipped and to where. They get sales unit figures, store inventory levels and reorder and return data. Patrick is right, the only thing registering a disc does is let the marketing minds know where to send more junk mail to.
And with that happy thought... let me add one more. Do you have a business you want to promote? Do you have a webcomic or other site you'd like to drive more traffic to? Do you just want to tell the world how much you like Gargoyles? Then advertise with the Gathering of the Gargoyles! That's right, we are offering space in the 2005 program! Siren: I'll have to go then. Wear my gathering 2005 T-Shirt.
Todd: Maybe as a Paperback RPG? Don't watch the continuation of the series, live it yourself!
Stick all the basic info about the series up front, include Greg's Gargs enclyclopedia on a CD with a link to the Ask Greg archive.
Then chapters on play in both modern + medievel settings. A chapter on what Greg had 'next' for the series and the spin-offs. And ending with a chapter on using the most well-known fanfic universes - Christine Morgan (with her permission of course), TGS, a few others.
Brian- I have yet to see CGI that properly captures the 'dark' feel of the series, but if they could do it without it being prohibitively expensive, I'd wouldn't have a problem.

I've bought a lot of CDs and DVDs in my day, but I've never heard of "registering" them before. I don't return the "registration" cards from other products, either. The only purpose of that is to data-mine so they can get you on a mailing list. All you truly need if you have a warranty issue later is your dated cash register receipt or shipping invoice. As for the "Gargoyles" DVD sales, I would imagine the numbers they're going to look at are the ones reported by the retailers, not how many people have "registered" the DVD with the marketing department.

Kristen: Here is what the Gathering staff posted recently in regards to DVD feedback.
"After ten long years, Disney has released Gargoyles Season 1 to DVD. They've done a good job with it. The packaging and presentation live up to the product.
So, let's tell Disney how we feel about it!
Take ten minutes and write them a nice thank you letter. Even a postcard will do. Keep it short and sweet - this isn't the place to take them to task for sending you on a retail scavenger hunt to find the disc. Most importantly, tell them how much you look forward to the release of SEASON TWO.
Here is the address:
Buena Vista Home Entertainment
Department CS
Burbank, CA 91521
(This is the address off the disc.)
Thank you."

I don't know about CGI for "Gargoyles"; something about it has always made it seem (in my eyes) more appropriate for a primarily sci-fi series as opposed to one which, while mingling several genres, is primarily fantasy (in light of the nature and origin of the gargoyles). Though the two "Shrek" movies did form an exception....

Anyone else going to Mega-Con at the end of the month? It's located in Orlando, FL. Click my name for more info.
I'll be there, dressed as a gargoyle. As will my daughter. I also have a surplus of Gargoyles trading cards. I plan to hand one out to each person we come by. Just trying to keep the show alive and remind people that may have forgotten. Tell them it's on DVD now. Mention here and so on and so forth. I need to finish painting my wings tonight. I have latex rubber wings that look great. They come red though and I am going for something a little more natural for me. I plan to attend as an American Indian gargoyle :D I'll post pictures when I get back and all. But if you are in the Orlando area that weekend, attend!

I'm not throwing comic books and the other media suggestions off, but although this has been talked to death for years, why wouldn't CGI work? Sure, it's more expensive to pull off, but what can you really do when all of your other animation options have either been exhausted or went to the crapper?

I always fantasized that Gargoyles would come back on ABC during prime-time hours and as a TV-G/TV-PG "family" show, rather than a children's animated series. I think that all of the voice actors would come back, because they haven't really done anything recently, and it's really easy to do remote animated voicing (even Frakes could do it while directing a movie!).
Any news on a date on when they're getting together and deciding on Season 2's DVD? If they decide to do it, it would be <radio interference> One small step for the us, <radio interference> one giant leap for the series.
Pardon the corny joke, but...

This is my first post ever in here, but I just wanted to give Wingless a hug. Your mom is definitely in my thoughts. Just keep thinking positive and you'll get through this. I know you don't know me, but if IM me (on mascubanana) if you ever just want to talk.

Wingless > You and your mom and family are in my thoughts and prayers. I know how it feels to have a close family member (my younger brother) to have such a serious illness and have to be hospitalized. It sucks big time, I know. But hang in there.
If you need to, go ahead and email me. I'm always there to lend an ear, and a shoulder to lean on.

TODD> All stuff I've thought about. Really no way to know, because the television business is constantly changing its standards.
I do think Greg and the crew could easily work around such things though, they're smart, talented people. They'd know what they have to do.
I don't know who said Cartoon Network would be a good home for Gargoyles, but that's not true at all. CN is run by Time-Warner I believe... Disney's big competitor.
The best place would be if Toon Disney became the network that Cartoon Network is now... unfortunatly it's not available in many areas just yet (happens a lot, was the same with CN for a while). Then they'd be able to afford budgets for many new shows, like Cartoon Network can now. Wasn't always like that for CN, it was all re-runs once a time too.
We'll see. A show would be ideal because I want everyone back, not just Greg. I want Frank Paur back, Michael Reaves back, Keith David back, Marina Sirtis, Jonathan Frakes, Salli Richardson... this list could go on.
But comics would be an ideal second choice.

Sorry for the double post. I forgot to address Todd's question.
Todd> I think that Gargoyles, at this time, would be more apt to find a home on Fox, the Cartoon network, or even Spike TV. I don't think it would actually air on any of the non cable networks at this point. But that just me.

You and your mother are in my prayers, Wingless.
So, I've watched the first disc of Gargoyles Season 1. I watched Awakening 1-5 with the commentaries, and found them to be amusing (Gummi Bears was an inspiration? I remember that show, LoL!)
Anyway, I'm definitely glad I got the DVD. Let's hope they get Season 2 on DVD as well!! :)
I remember reading here on the comment board that there's Disney or somebody you can write to about the DVD, so it encourages the P.T.B that Season 2 will sell. Where can I do that?

Re: Marvel universe. I believe the gargoyles would be treated with the same fear and hatred that the mutants are, and depending on the scientist who classifed them, they could end up like the Neo, orliving in hiding, or like the Genoshians and stuck in slave worker camps. Sorry, I'm going by the comic itself. I liked the movies, but I don't think it was inheritly true to the comics story.
However I do believe it is one of the best comic adaptations I've ever seen. Now, how the franchise is going to survive now that Fox fired Bryan Singer has yet to be determined.

There might be room for an animated show sometime in the evening hours. Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill have all done alright. It would work better for the serious nature of the show and allow for somewhat more adult/mature themes.

WINGLESS - Your mother will be in my thoughts.
Question for this week: Does anybody besides me think that, if "Gargoyles" were to return, it ought to be in a different format than an animated television series? This is one thing that I've sometimes wondered of late, given a few changes since it went off the air:
1. It'd be difficult to find room for it on television. The Disney Afternoon no longer exists, and there's scarcely any room for animation in syndication any longer.
2. Even more seriously, Disney's closed down the animation studios that it used to make "Gargoyles", and the television animation studios that it now has go for a more "conventional cartoony" style - which works for a comedy series, but would look out of place for a serious drama-adventure series like "Gargoyles".
3. There's also the fact that S&P is a lot stricter these days (Greg himself has brought this up, commenting, for example, that the S&P people these days would never allow them to make a story like "Deadly Force"). All of which means that the climate for "Gargoyles" as a television series is no longer as feasible now as it was in the mid 1990's.
Therefore, I find myself wondering if a "Gargoyles" revival should be searching for a different medium. A comic book, say, or a series of novels (if Disney could be convinced that such things would be economically viable). There'd be the loss of the significant talent of the voice actors, of course (which would itself probably mean some different directions for the series, since some of Greg's ideas - such as bringing back the Archmage for "Avalon" - were inspired by hearing them do their performances), but there might be some advantages. For one thing, there'd be more room to explore such issues as humanity dealing with the revelation of "gargoyles are out there" and gradually learning that the gargoyles are intelligent beings rather than mere wild animals.
At any rate, that's something that's occurred to me. What do you think?

Wingless: My heart goes out to you and your family, almost the same thing befell my mom. She has contracted grave(?) disease.
They found cracks in her liver, she was completely yellow a month ago. She has gained some weight back, but her liver will only work on a 90 percent capacity. Were trying to get disability for her, but it's been tough lately, my father got fired from his job, and i can't find work. I don't mean to be depressing or anything, just saying your not alone. Just keep your chin up, things will work out for the both of us, for the better:)

Vertigo: That wouldn't be the main fact, heated discussion from both evolutionists and creationists would erupt. Besides those two, it's categories and sub-categories. I wouldn't see humans destroying them in this day and age, only arguing on who's right and wrong.

Putting them in the same universe leaves me a little cold. But the Marvel Universe is so diverse... gargoyles would be treated as gargoyles, mutants as mutants. I doubt it'd be all that different at all.

5th! :D
Now to start a topic totally different from last week's....
Given the events shown in the X-Men movies, how do you think the Gargoyles would've been treated if the two universes were the one and same? Would they be treated as 'mutants', or a seperate species?

Not sure what number I am-but not too concerned this week. I know this isn't garg related-but I've seen others do it in times of crisis-so I thought I'd try too.
Just was wondering if you all could all focus some positive energy my Mom's way. She(Joan) is in the hospital after undergoing emergency surgery last Monday. She's in critical condition and is also fighting a severe case of
C difficile(that's Clostridium difficile for those who aren't medically inclined). That alone can be fatal-add to that the surgery she underwent and being week from not being able to eat properly for about 3 months.
If you could keep her in your thoughts the next few days-it would be appreciated.
Thanks Garg peoples *leaves hugs*
