I had a suspicion that Issue 2 ould be called "The Journey".

Everyone waiting for the Room to clear? You know it's not like a converstaion has to start or end with the turning of the page. There is a "Last Week's Comments" option. I always read up from whatever I missed. Some of you make it sound like if you enter the Room and it has reset since you last were in it you don't bother to check what you'd missed.

I don't buy a ton of SLG comics now, but putting aside creators who aren't being expected to produce work on a regular schedule, I haven't really heard of anything like this before. It doesn't seem to be happening with any of the other Disney/SLG titles. I really do wish someone on the inside would give us a little info on what's causing the hold up. The book is now coming in three months late if I'm not mistaken. And I worry that the longer the space between issue #1 and issue #2, the more likely casual readers are to forget the book.

Comics: that really is distressing, maybe it was fortunate for Greg to do his version of The Journey instead of starting off with a brand new story..

Lynati: yeah,Jetix isn't exactly my favorite T.D block.. not to mention it drives me insane to watch the end of Power Rangers (which isn't even animated) right before Gargoyles.. I'm just glad after Hunter's Moon 3 and the last half of the Journey I'll be done recording the eps.. until the DVD comes out *hopes*

...or, possibly I can bypass the fact I'm not currently set up to do captures off of VHS by using the CDs someone made me for the later season 2 eps... (I can't wait for the second half of season 2 to come out on DVD, the Jetix logo makes me insane.) I've been meaning to get back to doing this anyway, but requests for specific images/people is much more inspiring than just choosing a character at random.

I just wish that Slave Labor Graphics would explain why they're having all of those schedule difficulties (it could head off the more paranoid speculations), though I can understand why they aren't doing it if to do so, they would have to "rat somebody out".

And I hope that next week they can clear it up once and for all over just when #2 is coming out.

Hey guys!

I've been trying to post a comment for a couple of days now, but my connection is having an attitude problem...

I discovered this place just a week ago, and I can't really believe I never found it before. I'm weriting overseas, from Spain, where the Gargoyles phenomemon only last as long as the show is aired somewhere, which happens once in YEARS. I started to see the show almost 8 years ago, and still think it's the best EVER. So I'm so happy to find you! I can share my obsession over here :D

I've been reading about the comic issues..:( What's with Gargoyles and bad luck? I didn't know there was comics going around. I'll try to get them. Somehow. :D

I've just been on WWW.slgpublishing.com and the New releases page says Gargoyles 3 out in November but the Production schedule page says Gargoyles 2 out in November, so which is which anyway Amazon.com still says September 28th for Gargoyles 2

In the podcast, Greg says #2 should be out in October and #3 in November. I'm assuming the podcast was recorded recently, so I'm still cautiously hoping the comic can get back on schedule...

He also says he's already written the scripts for 3 and 4. It's somehow really painful to know that these scripts exist but I can't see them for several more months. :) Obviously that's true of any book, TV show, movie, etc, but we've been waiting *so* long for new Gargoyles stuff that to know it exists and that I just can't see it is really hard ;)

For those who previously tried to listen without success to the podcast, the technical issue was on their end and has been fixed now.

Be advised you have to get through about 25 minutes or so of their content before you get to Greg's actual interview. But it is worth the wait.

If you have trouble with the podcast, you could try downloading the mp3 file directly instead of streaming from the website. I don't want to post the link here, since I'm sure the website would prefer you use their link, but you can get it pretty easily. (The link on the webpage is to a .m3u file, which is just a pointer to an mp3 file. If you download the m3u file and open it with Notepad or a text editor you can get the mp3 url.)

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the slg website's production schedule page (http://www.slavelabor.com/prod_schedule.html) gargoyles #2 has been pushed back to be released in **November**, not October. I don't want to sound paranoid, but wth is going on with the release date?

Also, Todd, while I'm here, I want to thank you for quoting Ask Greg to answer a few questions to speed up the process of answering questions. 65 questions left from 2004 and 192 questions were asked in 2005.

I think that's kind of another problem of stalled conversation, Todd. Conversation dries up, people start commenting on how there's no conversation, then people start saying it's too late in the week to start a new conversation. If we can't do something as simple as carry a topic from one week to the next, maybe it is time to change the comment room format.

Here's an attempt: If you could have an audio commentary made for any single episode of "Gargoyles", which one would you pick? By "single episode" I mean one that isn't part of a multiparter like "Awakening" or City of Stone". Parts of the Wotld Tour are fair game. Heck, just to make things a little more interesting, I'll let you pick one from Season One, one from Season Two Part One, and one from the episodes that will someday form Season Two Part Two (talons crossed).

I think that a better way of getting the room again would be to say something that's interesting enough to provoke responses from other people reading it; usually what kills the room is when the conversation winds up going into a cul-de-sac where the topic has been (for the time being) exhausted and everyone's said everything that there is to say about it.

The trouble is, I can't think of any new topics at the moment (and with it being Friday evening, it's a bit late in the week to introduce one by now, anyway).

BISHANSKY - Yes, that was what his lawyer said, and his statement obviously wasn't impartial, but after the shock that Dominic had suffered, I think that he probably would have had his sanity affected. (I like the touch of Elisa gently escorting him away from the jutting-out falcon.)

Incidentally, there's a parallel to Mace Malone's practical joke on Dominic in Herodotus, who records that an ancient Babylonian queen named Nitocris had an inscription made upon her tomb that if any of her successors was in great need of money, he was free to take as much of her treasure as he wished from her tomb. Later on, a Persian king (I think that it was Darius I, but I'm not certain) who had taken over Babylon learned of her inscription, was intrigued, and broke into her tomb to get the treasure. What he found inside, however, was no treasure, but another inscription reading, in effect, "If you were not so filled with greed and avarice that you would stoop to robbing the dead, you would never have considered forcing your way into my tomb."

Hmm. A lot of questions answered today. Here's an answer from Greg Weisman that a lot of us have been wondering about:

"Chapter breaks, on the other hand, as much as I would have liked them, were not presented as an option. More than BVHE wanted to pay to include them."

So we didn't get chapter breaks because of costs.

Podcast> OK, I obviously need to clarify things a bit.

A podcast is essentially a radio show that you download to your computer or MP3 player (such as an iPod, hence "podcast". Some are free, some charge a small fee to download each show. Some are done professionally, some are done by amatuers. Some are very good, some are not so good.

I'm not sure how it got started, but the idea that I want to make a "Gargoyles" podcast myself is not correct. In my original post, I talk about how I've been listening to podcasts by MST3K's Mike Nelson where he essentially does the humorous commentary MST3K was known for in pocast form. The upside is because the podcast does not include the actual movie, which the consumer buys or rents separately, Nelson and crew don't need to accquire the rights to the film. What I was suggesting is that the same principle could be applied to "Gargoyles" is Greg Weisman and possibly some of the other cast and crew of the show were to record podcasts commentaries for episodes of "Gargoyles" that didn't get commentary on the DVD. Podcasts often come out at somewhat random intervals, so it could be done whenever Greg and anyone else who wants to join in have the time.

So what I'm asking is: 1) Would this be legal? 2) Would people be interested in listening? and 3) Would Greg W. or anyone else who worked on the show want to do it?

Umm, you might want to re-watch that episode. Dominic was never shown in the episode. That was Mace Malone being led off in cuffs. Also, you might want to re-read what I said. I was saying that he probably WASN'T dead. Also, the bit with Elisa reading the note was a reference to an episode of the A-Team called "Body Slam". :D (Just saw it this morning. Its the one with Hulk Hogan. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0504153/ ) They dug up a metal box that was supposed to be filled with gold bars, only to find a note that says "right property, wrong box".

Greg mentioned at "Ask Greg" that Dominic wound up in a sanitarium (which I find easy to believe; if I'd been looking for a bag full of diamonds for seventy years only to discover that the big clue about where to find them was just a practical joke on the part of the person who had them, I'd probably be suffering a severe mental blow too).

KingCobra: Basically, its some dude in a cheezy gargoyle costume (looks like he cut up a cereal box and put it on his head) reviewing some old-school gargoyles stuff (a coloring book, one of the original comics, and a french comic). Thats the one I linked to. The other one is the same dude reviewing the current issue #1. I haven't watched it yet because I don't even have a copy of it yet and thus avoiding spoilers like the plague.

Podcast: It can be done, however it would require something to actually discuss (like the upcoming comic release, or news on Season 2 vol 2, etc). Otherwise you'd end up looking like this....fool:

As far as Dracon goes, he might be an "underboss" at the very most. Something tells me that ol' Dom is still around somewhere calling the shots. (After all, look how long Mace was able to stay under the "radar" so-to-speak. That, and it was never actually confirmed that Dom actually died.)

Who says that Dracon is even in the Mafia? We know he's a big player in an organized crime syndicate, but no one's ever said it was actually La Cosa Nostra (unless it's been revealed in Ask Greg somewhere I missed, but I don't think so). I always thought that his family had basically come to America with the clothes on their backs and built up an empire from nothing. Of course, they'd probably have other crime families to contend with, but they seem to be pretty much the top dog. Granted, that clashes sharply with reality, but this isn't reality, it's fiction.

Well, I certainly could facilitate if Greg W. ever expressed interest in doing such a thing. I worked on a fairly short lived animation radio show with a co-host who I never met in person, thanks to the wonders of computers. Right now, I'm really just wondering if people think it would be feasable, legal, and worthwhile.

Well, I've now taken a peek at the Wikipedia article. There is a link cited, but it's Amazon, and we all know how reliable they are when it comes to comics. I checked out Amazon's listing for issue #2, but I couldn't actually find a date. I went to the source and checked Slave Labor's website (click my name or go to slavelabor.com). If you click "What's New" under "Features" on the right side of the main page, and click on the latest Production Schedule, you'll see a list of what SLG has coming up for comics. Unfortunately, "Gargoyles" is not listed among the comics with a hard release date. It is, however listed under Future Release subject to change for October. Weirdly, issue #3 is listed as a future release for November, though this may just be wishful thinking or an oversight in updating the release dates.

Long story short, there's a small chance issue #2 will come out in September, but I'm guessing Slave Labor would know if it was going to be coming out that soon. More likely, we'll see the new issue next month.

Id there any reason why no one has said a word one way or the other about my suggestion for a "Gargoyles" commentary in podcast format? It's not that I'm looking for a pat on the back. Are y'all sure you're using "trivialize" in the correct way? The episode "M.I.A." didn't seem to trivialize the Battle of Britain to me. Unless there's another definition of "trivialize" out there that I'm not aware of, the Battle of Britain was not depicted in "M.I.A." as some event of little importance.
If an episode of any show, including "Gargoyles", was centered around the events of 9/11 and treated them with the seriousness they deserve, how would that episode trivialize 9/11?

As for any of the characters Matt mentioned coming to their end during 9/11, I fail to see any logical reason as to why that would happen. Peter Maza's been retired from the force for some time, and all the others are on the night shift and most likely would have been asleep when it happened. So they would not have been near the WTC when the planes crashed into them. And they probably wouldn't have been in the group of first responders that entered shortly after it happened, since weren't the first reponders just FDNY and EMS personnel (I don't remember the exact details of the immediate aftermath)?

He's got to at least be a Capo. I don't think he's a Consigliere, they typically act as advisors to the Boss. He may be an Underboss... typically the second most powerful position in the family. The Boss typically controls it all, but I don't think Tony is a Boss. I think Dominic Dracon may have been.

BTW, Glasses will never hold any of these positions beyond Soldier. To become a Made man in the Mafia, one must be Italian Catholic.

I have it on DVD, got it at a convention (shhhh!).
It stays pretty true to the pilot we all know and love, except the total lack of Angel, that's the biggest difference. The girl who played Willow in the original pilot, she really wasn't that good of an actress, least for the part. Maybe I'm just so use to the Willow I've known for 7 seasons that I can't see anyone else playing her, but it was an interesting thing to see.
Oh, and the vampire dusting was just bad...as in, looked very very low budget. But for its faults, WB saw all that made it great....the characters and story.

FMA movie: I've seen it and I enjoyed it. Admittedly, to understand the backstory of what is going on in the film, you do need to know what happened in the last 3-5 episodes. It's still enjoyable without, but would be good to know.

Here's a question: I've been watching "WITCH" and "Eureka," and I've been enjoying both. I'm not sure what is it about this season of WITCH, but I've enjoyed every episode I've been able to watch. I like how the plot is going; it's still pretty linear (facing Nerissa), but there's a lot more ensemble development, the characters seem much more fleshed (except for Caleb, IMO). It seems more intense.

"Eureka" is just proving to be a fun, lighthearted series. I know it could take itself more seriously, but I rather prefer it this way. And it's fun watching the love-triangle between Carter-Alison-Stark.

The way you described Outlaw Star sounds interesting, and I'll give it a chance if I ever come across it in any medium, be it on TV or DVD or even manga form, but I'd probably be apt to buy something like the complete FMA series on DVD or something first. And, unfortunately, no, I've never seen Firefly/Serenity. Are they good?

At least Greg most likely won't have to worry about how to handle September 11 in the comic for a long time to come (and I'm glad that I'm not the one who's got that responsibility).

On a lighter note, last night, the WB (as part of its big goodbye before becoming the CW) reran a few pilot episodes of its old shows, and I got to see the pilot of "Buffy" again. A lot of fun still (I particularly get a kick out of the scene where Cordelia learns the hard way why you should never be mean to someone who knows a lot more about computers and computer programming than you do). Definitely a way of bringing back happy memories.

Pearl Harbor was almost 65 years ago, and there aren't that many people left who saw it as it happened. 9/11 was only five years ago, and thanks to the mass media of the modern age, there aren't that many people who didn't see it live on television as it happened or a replayed shortly thereafter. I think it's safe to say that 9/11 will continue to be talked about by a lot of people for a good time to come.

Basicly if you watch the show Firefly or serenity, it was the cartoon version of that in some way. The pilot episode is very similar to that show, which is why some people compair the two. Joss weldon refuses to talk about the two being similar so I still wonder about that one.

Basicly you have a rouge pilot in a space ship and a really wierd crew of people. and a crazy lady they find in a suit case and a really kewl ship they find. Its a good anime. It has a bit of westren Gun shoot out flair in it.

They sell the entire collection of dvd's now for I think 30 dollers. It has like 50 episodes so it's worth the buy.

Im a big cartoon collector. Hhaha I am after the talespin cartoons now. I have the ducktale dvd's Thoughs brought back so many memories.
I remember as a kid running home from school., Must watch ducktales and talespin, must watch my gargoyles :P

The Twin Towers were not hit because they were the tallest buildings. They were hit because they were a symbol of our economy. Located in the financial center of the city. The WTC, Wall Street, the Stock Exchange. All of that is there.

The Eyrie Building is privately owned and the corporate headquarters of an eccentric billionare and his mega-corporation. As such, it is not the symbol the Twin Towers were.

Greg B: Damn, those were funny. Do they have beer in the Special Hell? If they do, I want to come too. And dipping into last week for a second, I just have to say that to me, the greatest crime that has "Alien" in its name is "Alien: Resurrection." Much as I like Jeunet's work, that entire movie was an inexusable atrocity. Unless you're like me, and see the "Alien" movies as a trilogy and not as whatever the hell they are now.

As far as Sept 11th and Gargoyles are concerned, since time moves in a very linear fashion in the Gargoyles universe, if god-willing the comic runs long enough, they will come to that date eventually. But beyond that, I don't know. It will be during the daytime, anyway. But something that I do wonder: which would be a more ideal target for terrorists in the Gargoyles universe, the Twin Towers or the Eyrie Building?

If you haven't, or you have but don't have it on DVD, I highly recommend going out and buying a copy or two (to share with your friends or whoever). I bought a copy at Best Buy last week for $20.

Let me just clarify that it is the best $20 I've ever spent.

Definitely one of the best anime movies ever made.

I dunno, it is all of this stuff that makes talking about Sept. 11th in terms of Gargoyles (or any terms really) so hard. Perhaps it'd be best if the event is not mentioned in the Gargoyles Universe, but a big part of me feels that that is avoiding something that shouldn't be avoided. I suppose since the Clan would be sleeping through the event, a storyline could always just pick up on them waking to discover a disastor has occurred while they slept. Maybe you could just say there was major loss of life without outright telling the audience that Sept. 11th just happened. If viewers want to see that as what happened, fine, if not they could assume something else happened in the GU. Just a thought.

Whoa, I did not say that. I was just trying to explain my perspective to King Cobra there. Believe me, I know it wasn't just a New Yorkers thing. I have friends all over the country who were hit hard by 9/11. I'll admit, I was a little offended by Cobra's suggestion to use 9/11 to kill off characters he doesn't like. But I got over it.

I probably shouldn't get into it, but here's my 9/11 story. I lived in Westchester County for most of my life. In a medium sized suberb right next to the Hudson River, about 40 minutes north of NYC. Later that day, I went to a friend's house, which was high on a hill with a beautiful view south down the Hudson river, and you could see the smoke from the attack rising in the air.

For the next few weeks every where I went, there were candle light vigils. There were funerals. There were funerals even when no bodies were recovered. Two weeks after 9/11, I went down into Manhattan for the first time since the attacks, and I went down to Ground Zero. I will never, ever forget it. Pieces of debris much bigger than my house. All the dust, and dirt, people still scrambling to get it cleaned up. And the stench.

I am not trying to trivialize the affect it had on the country, as I said, it hit us all hard. I was just trying to explain where I'm coming from, and maybe I'm wrong, I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I think I may have a different perspective on the tragedy than someone who lives in, oh, let's say, Salt Lake City.

Personally, I think it's very hard to take an existing fictional universe and deal with a recent real event and not have it feel gimmicky or trivializing. One of the big problems with putting an event like 9/11 in a world of realistic fantasy (the comics Spider-Man comes to mind as a fictional universe that actually did take on the Septemberr 11th attacks), is that the history of the property may trivialize the real life event. September 11th was one of the worst things to ever happen to the US and continues to effect us to this day. But in the world of Spider-Man or Gargoyles, there may be far worse disasters in the past or future. For a lot of superheroes, cataclysmic events happen every couple of months. As for killing off an existing character, it's a double edged sword. You either do it and feel like you're downplaying the real lives that were lost, or you kill none of the regular cast and make the audience feel like this is a distant event, largely unrelted to the characters and story that they're following. "Gargoyles" never dealt with current events in New York or the rest of the country while it was on TV. I don't see anything really positive that could come of dealing with them now.

Killing off characters one doesn't like in a 9/11 story is kinda bad taste, I mentioned those 4 cops cuz I think they'd be the most likely to perish, though I understand Greg B's point that it could be seen as trivilizing the actual deaths of that day to have fictional deaths.

In any event, I politely disagree with Greg B on one thing: September 11th was a national tragedy, we all experienced it. Some people it hit closer to home than others, but it is so much more than just a New Yorkers thing IMHO.

And, Cobra, no offense, but as a New Yorker, and someone who had experience with 9/11 much closer to just reading about it or watching it on TV, I think it's pretty disgusting to suggest using it as a means to kill off characters you don't like.

A nice idea you suggested, Matt, showing the clan as being helpless (since 9/11 happened during the day, they'd be unable to do anything anyhow.), but I don't think the aforementioned characters would die, at least not in Greg's universe. I think it would be more feasible that the Mutates (Talon and Maggie, anyhow) would die. Being mutates and thus awake during the day, they'd have a better chance of doing something about it while it's happening then the clan would.

Of course I'm just speaking from the POV that I really despise Maggie and kind of hate Talon as well, but, from the perspective of continuity, I don't think anyone would really die. As unrealistic as that would be, Greg W. still has plans for all of these characters, from what I've seen, so I don't think any character deaths would take place in the near future.

I thought of something recently....

If any of you happen to be fans of MST3K, you may have stumbled across RiffTrax (linked to my name). Mr. Mike Nelson continues the MST3K tradition of poking fun at movies that very much deserve it. (The most recent film to get the treatment is "Crossroads" with Britney Spears.) How do they get around the fact that copyrights for such movies are very expensive? Simple. No movie included. You, the consumer, rent (or buy, if you like wasting money and shelf space) the film to be riffed. Then you purchase the MP3 for said movie from RiffTrax, which does not contain any snippet of the film itself, other than a few pieces of dialogue read by voice without form Disembodio to help you keep the track synched up. Load the MP3 into your preferred MP3 playing device, start the DVD a playing, follow the MP3 instructions to get the two synched up and there you be. You get an enjoyable hour or two, Mike Nelson and crew get a couple of your hard earned dollars, and the movie rental place and film studio get you to shell out to see a film that you might not give the time of day to otherwise. (I, unfortunately, have seen "Crossroads" without the benefit of humor commentary, and I do not reccomend it.

So what does this have to do with "Gargoyles"? Well, think about it. We never did get that commentary on "Deadly Force", which was supposed to happen, but ultimately was cut in favor of finishing out all 5 episodes of "Awakening". If anything was recorded, it's the property of Disney and not likely to be heard unless they decided to release it. But what if Greg decided to do a new commentary, or do one for a completely different episode? I know, we have the episode rambles, but audio commentaries cold reach a bunch of people who aren't stopping by the site and looking through the Ask Greg archives. And if, say, a couple of voice actors, writers, and other crew members were to join in, we could get any number of new fun tidbits. With net phone services like Skype around, it's increasingly possible to put together a podcast on the cheap. Of course, the big potential benefit would be people seeing the pdocast and picking up the DVDs to listen to the commentary.

Now I'm no expert on anything I'm talking about here. So this could be a completely stupid idea with big gaping technical or legal problems. But from what little I do know, it seems like it might be something worth trying out. Round up som "Gargoyles" show alums, record a fun commentary, throw in a plug for the comic, and you may have a pretty cool new form of advertizing for the "Gargoyles" franchise.

Thoughts? Comments? Tomatoes?

Are we at a point yet where it is okay to discuss Gargoyles and the events of Sept. 11th? I'm guessing we are.

I'm one of those people who think that in a few years Greg W should attempt a Sept 11th/Gargoyles story in the comics. I think showing the Clan as being entirely helpless to the events would be really cool. The thought has crossed my mind that perhaps Elisa or Morgan or Chavez or Matt Bluestone or Peter Maza should die.
