Warcrafter: Do you have a MySpace whose handle is "I am Goliath"? Because if you do, I wished you an early happy birthday. I could probably compare email addresses... or I could just not.

Thank you everyone who said happy birthday.

Funny, Samuel's birthday is in 2 hours while my birthday is in 26 hours. Anyway, happy early birthday Samuel :)

"Human are such easy prey for a gargoyle!"

Early birthday wishes, Samuel!

Samuel: Happy Birthday! :D

I was also thinking of writing a letter to etched in stone-but I have no idea what to say

Purplegoldfish - [skdyragonn at aol dot com]

I want to write an 'Etched in Stone' letter, but I'm not sure what one puts in one of those kinds of letters. Are there questions, or is it just commentary? I've never read comicbooks with reader responses in them.

OT: My birthdy is in two hours! Yey! I'm excited.

ANTIYONDER - That would be an interesting situation, if for no other reason than to see what Castaway's response would be to offers of help from organized crime. On the one hand, I doubt that he'd want to pass up assistance from any quarter, particularly if the people involved had the motivation to get rid of the gargoyles and past experience with them. On the other hand, he obviously wouldn't want his association with them to become public knowledge, for the same reason that he doesn't want the Quarrymen on Halloween Patrol armed!

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

One notable thing about The Quarrymen in the comics, is that a number of them are characters we've seen before, rather than faceless hood (ala TGC). To recap:

Sarah Browne (The Thrill Of The Hunt)
Banquio and Fleance (Lighthouse In The Sea Of Time and Pendragon)
Chaz and Lou (Kingdom)

Are there any other New Yorker that would possibly join up? I thought that Art and Lois (Protection) were involved, but Gargoyle Wiki didn't mention it.

I wonder if Dracon, Brod or any of their men would join up if only to get the Gargoyle out of their way.

Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo,com]

On the subject of Lex & Alex:

I definitely do NOT think it'll go that way. For me, I see Alex and Lex in a brotherly, even godfather sort of way . . . but not after a few years. Right now, it looks like their just in a friends/babysitter relationship.

(Lex is awesome for that role, BTW: while F & X go to town, they have the perfect sitter who just happens to live in the same caslte and who just woke up!)

"The Suspense is Terrible . . . I Hope it Lasts" -- Willy Wonka

Oh, as for the Matrix-Lex-theory: I really don't think so. Gregs revelation that Lex would be gay kinda gave away that it would not be a fantasy/artificial-creature! If it would be the Matrix, that would totally change it.

IMHO, it might be somebody from the world tour or from Avalon. I don't think it is a human... we might see this comming though, probably ny the time Katana shows up... (can't wait fro that ;) )

Brook

So, I juts popped in once again, still waiting for the imports. ;)

And so, not able to wait for the first ALL NEW!! NEW!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!! Gargoyles EP in 10 F********* years, I read some of the spoilers.

WOW!! Elisa breaking up with Goliath is beyond shocking!! I mean, I saw it coming when I read the synopsis for issue3, but after all... just... WOW!! Whilst my favourite character is and stays Brooklyn (yep, poor one. :( ), the fact that Goliath got ditched is absolutely... baffling!! I remember back when first seeing Hunters Moon 3, and finally CHERRING at that kiss!! The moment that took oh so many EPs to happen for the two, and now, she breaks up!!

And, damn, she's even got good reasons!!

I wonder just how Greg is going to carry on this storyline. I remember page-long questions of fans on about the two would, ergh, "get private", if they could have a child, magical or through "getting private", how their dates go etc.etc.etc.pp. Of course, this doesn't mean that the two of em can't get back together, but... WOW, just... WOW!!! What Greg did is brave in every way, and would have been a major leap forward for the 3rd Season!!

Kudos!! Is all I can say. :)

Brook

Good One, PAtrick. Totally fell for it!
Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

Wow, took me forever to catch up. I've been avoiding the comment room until now because I couldn't get the new issue until today. Which I got. And I love it. :)

I know I'm late, but: Hello, Blis! I hope you enjoy yourself here. Everyone here's actually really nice, even if the words they choose aren't the best. I frequently find myself using the wrong words and conveying the wrong messasage.

Anyhow.

***SPOILERS***

I'm wondering if the new character is of some kind of Middle Eastern descent. Persian, maybe. I denno, just a thought. I love how ethnically diverse the cast of Gargoyles is.

It was great seeing Demona at St. Damien's.

Thailog. (can you say, "YES!"?)

I felt so bad for poor Brooklyn. :(

Alex was so cute in his costume. :)

***END SPOILERS***

I'm so happy. Oh, and my birthday is tomorrow! Yey! I'll be 19. :)

KingCobra> Good point. I'm glad too, because the more I thought about it, the more I disliked that combo. I'm kinda hoping it's a gargoyle. Maybe one of the clones. NOT Brentwood though.

Patrick: Well, I was looking for something to say that I normally, in my right mind, wouldn't say on any other day. Best I could come up with.

Another question I find interesting is the one about whether Greg thinks Demona is justified in pursuing her agenda against humans. I myself used to not think so. Then I found out about Rocky VI. So, now, as far as I'm concerned, she can go to town. ( ;

Siren: Interesting video. I especially liked the subtle superimposition about a minute and fifty in.

Harvester of Eyes - [Minstrel75 at gmail dot com]
"Why did Prometheus steal fire, only to give it away? Probably because he was retarded. I'd have charged out the ass for it."

Yeah, theres no way thats gonna happen. I think the person who cam up with that might've read the GargWiki entry on the Trio and misunderstood: "This camaraderie lasted into the 1990's after their awakening, although it began to come to an end after their return to the castle in 1996, as Broadway began to spend more time with his future mate Angela, and Lexington with Alex."

Thats my guess anyway.

I kinda wonder if maybe Lex and Matrix will end up together, though I do think that is kinda cliche: the tec wiz with the technical lifeform... I dunno. Greg has said he wants the Elisa-Goliath relationship to be unique so I think that rules out a human. Who knows where another gargoyle could come from or one of Oberon's Children. *shrugs*

Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Let this mark the beginning of a Golden Age, between all our clans, both Human and Gargoyle!!!" -Macbeth, "City of Stone"

Alex x Lex> where DID that come from? I think the person got the friendship/partnership of the older two mixed up with a deeper personal relationship. But I just can't see that happening; too many lines to cross to get anywhere near the idea of Lex and Alex being in a relationship. Geh!
Asatira

Patrick> I second you about Lex and Alex.

I have to say that I don't see it happening AT ALL. Even if Alex was much older, (like about 18+) I wouldn't see Lex's affection for him going anywhere beyond the 'Best Buddy' stage.

KingCobra_582 - [KingCobra_582 at hotmail dot com]

Fox already voiced her opinion on Alex and Lex: "Aww, you're great with him, Lex." She thinks they are a good couple, how else could you interpret that scene? : )

KingCobra>He probably means in the future when Alex is older.

I still don't get where he got that idea. I always thought Lex had a more big brotherly or even paternal love for Alex. Certainly not the kinda love he percieved. I guess its possible, but I doubt it.

Not sure if someone mentioned this before (I barely read the comments this week because I don't want to read spoilers)

How are Fox and Xanatos going to react when they find out their son is Lexington's mate?

Where is the world did he get that idea from????

SPOILERS

NTRIPY> <<The first panel is a little confusing. Why would X and F have an invitation to their own party on the desk? Or was that an invite they sent to the Pres which he has sent back with his own invite?>>

Proof copy? Ever seen a fancy invitation? They're beautiful, expensive, and they may have just had one on their desk.

<<I'm surprised that Elisa would go along with Matt saying, "My taskforce. My rules." I mean since he's introducing her as his partner, shouldn't it be "our"?>>

Um... she is his partner during their normal shifts. But, he is in charge of the Taskforce. It is his. Nothing unusual here.

<<I also think the girl in the Labyrinth is Elisa, just checking that Goliath does try with Delilah. And Goliath asks Delilah after he picks up Elisa's scent, and realizes she's there watching.>>

Then Talon is a blind idiot. If he can't recognize his own sister. I don't think Elisa would put on a disguise to follow Goliath around to make sure he asks out Delilah. Not her style.

Greg said there was a new character appearing in #3 with speaking lines who was a female. Punk Girl is female, only new character with lines. Obviously, the new character.

Not Elisa.

<<Castaway saying, "no hammers" suggests he doesn't have much confidence in his own men to distinguish between a real garg and a human in a costume. A bit like his inability to distinguish between a monster and an intelligent being.>>

He's wisely trying to avoid lawsuits and more negative attention for his organization. And, the Quarrymen are made up of, well, paranoid people.

And Castaway knows the gargoyles are intelligent. Remember, he was raised thinking they're demons. Also, his hatred stems from his inability to take responsibility for his own collosal mistake. Can't blame himself for shooting Jason, so he blames the gargoyles.

"I'll tell you one thing, if the primates that we came from had known that someday politicians would come out of the gene pool, they'd've stayed up in the trees and written evolution off as a bad idea ... I always thought the opposable thumb was overrated." - Captain John Sheridan

It is so awesome to finally have a new story in my hands, too good.

SPOILERS

The first panel is a little confusing. Why would X and F have an invitation to their own party on the desk? Or was that an invite they sent to the Pres which he has sent back with his own invite?

The colors of the seal change on the next page and the invite now has a red section, weird.

I like the contrast of the panel with the announcer saying, "--but it's not like the beasties can talk, right?" while Alex says, "Doggie!" in a Gargoyles costume.

I'm surprised that Elisa would go along with Matt saying, "My taskforce. My rules." I mean since he's introducing her as his partner, shouldn't it be "our"?

Great to see some new characters as well as Hacker, gotta love Hacker! He's hacking into everyone's operation.

I was disappointed to only see Goliath in stone sleep, but I thought the art for the awakenings was really good.

Brooklyn doesn't get many lines and he didn't used to fold his wings like that unless he was wearing a jacket.

The Illuminati ring changes in appearance from when Hacker shows his F.B.I. id to when he takes it off. First it looks like a triangle with one horizontal line within it, making a smaller triangle with an eye inside. Then, when he takes it off, it seems to have three horizontal lines within it. Could this be Fox's enchanted jewelry?

I also think the girl in the Labyrinth is Elisa, just checking that Goliath does try with Delilah. And Goliath asks Delilah after he picks up Elisa's scent, and realizes she's there watching.
That's probably wrong, but it seems too weird to me that Goliath would ask out a being that he knows has been programmed and probably doesn't have enough awareness to even know what she is agreeing to.
If Brooklyn hadn't seen Goliath ask her out and then asked her out himself, she probably would have given the same response that she gave Goliath, "If that is your wish..."

Castaway saying, "no hammers" suggests he doesn't have much confidence in his own men to distinguish between a real garg and a human in a costume. A bit like his inability to distinguish between a monster and an intelligent being.

On the second last page Al is talking to the new girl when the alarms sound and he runs off, there is a strange image left in his place, is that just meant to be someone's shadow?

THAILOG!!! Yay, Thailog looks cool and pretty pleased about his, "Trick or treat?" one liner. As someone else mentioned, it does look like he is wearing a mask like the one Xanatos had on his desk, just part of Thailog's joke I guess. And I don't think he has fired a shot just yet, those lasers are from the sites at the top of the gun, not from the barrel itself.

With so many characters involved, this issue felt like The Gathering (but of the first and second races) or City of Stone. It has a lot going on but did not feel rushed and left me hanging for the next iss. Great work, keep it up.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

One other thing about the design of the Great Seal of the United States that might be connected with Illuminati involvement in the Gargoyles Universe.

There were a few earlier designs submitted to the Second Continental Congress for what should go on the Great Seal before they decided on the infamous one-eyed pyramid. Among these was one suggested by Thomas Jefferson that it should bear the image of Hengist and Horsa (since the Anglo-Saxons were believed at that time to be responsible for the concept of representative government). I wonder if Mr. Duval (or whatever alias he went by in 1776) got it rejected in part because of his past as one of King Arthur's knights and memories about the troubles that Arthur had had with the Saxons during his reign (though Hengist and Horsa were both dead by the time that he was born, let alone by the time that he became King).

32, 36>> I'm sure it's something deeper, but my gut reaction was to just look at the numbers themselves.

32+36=68 -- from "Hunter's Moon III," episode 65, you have issue #1, "episode" 66, issue #2, 67, and then this issue, our first new canon, would be episode 68. I wouldn't put any money on that being the explanation, but that was what my first shot at it.

Alex Garg
Remember that there are, in fact, two towers. 2-1 is 1; 1 1, 11. 2-1 is 1, 1 1. And there are 9 members on Silverstien's board of directors: that's 9, 1, 1 -- 9/11. And take 2-1+9/11, and you get 12, which leads us all to the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks: Kyle. . . . 12 contains the numbers 1 and 2 . . . add 1 and 2 with 9/11 and you get 914. Drop the 4 and it's 91, exactly the score Kyle got on his spelling test 12 days after 9/11!

Todd: It could be, but I think there's a similar chance that we COULD find out the meaning of 36/32 soon enough. We'll just have to see - though I think its SO cool we have so many things to question about even after 11 years of being semi-spoiled by Greg!

The Founding Fathers being Masons/Illuminati is classic history/media. It was the focal point of "National Treasure", wasn't it?

I even remember in an episode of the TV version of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" where some baddie was telling one of the Szalinski Family how Thomas Jefferson was ordered by the Illuminati to place their seal on the $1 bill.

As for whether or not this theory will exist in the Gargoyle Universe, don't forget what the Weird Sisters (and Greg) say:

"All Things Are True . . ."

Does anybody besides me think that the Illuminati's "Thirty-six" "Thirty-two" greeting could be the new "What did Titania whisper in Fox's ear" moment? :) (Especially in terms of people trying to work out "Why those two numbers?")

MATT - That's a great observation about the "Trick or Treat" cry. I hadn't made the connection between the two times it's mentioned.

BATTLE BEAST - I've heard about the "Founding Fathers were Illuminati" theory as well. (It certainly would explain why the Illuminati's pyramid symbol looks so much like the one on the Seal of the United States.) Whether it's true in the Gargoyles Universe or not, of course, is something that we'll probably have to wait quite a while to find out.

*****WARNING: SPOILERS****
First off, I have to say that I was more impressed with the coloring in this one. The coloring in the last issue was a huge nit with me, perhaps moreso than the pencils (and it was also based largely off something I heard someone say in either the "Awakening" commentary or one of the other bonus features on the first Gargoyles DVD). I think the coloring in this issue has perhaps, more than the other two, best captured the feel they were originally shooting for with the colors in the cartoon.

Elisa and Goliath have the talk already. Elisa actually brings up some good points. I think it was probably on Elisa's mind, but it had never actually been brought out in the open until now. Seems a little suddent, but Elisa's probably had a lot on her mind of late. I also found the chat between her and Jason interesting. For some reason, I thought Jason knew that the one she was referring to at the end of "Hunter's Moon" was Goliath. But, hey, I've been wrong before.

Something else I'm wondering after reading this. I've heard the theory that the Quarrymen had probably been planned long before we saw them in "The Journey." It carries water, since they seemed to spring up all of a sudden after "Hunter's Moon," and it has been said that Jon Canmore came to the Society. So I'm wondering if the Society had also planned for Bluestone to lead the Gargoyle Task Force. Little theory that came into my head afer I read Hacker conversing with everyone.

And... yay! Castaway's not firing military grade ordnance in the city, or attempting to derail trains. LOVED listening to him talk on the phone. Bravo, Greg. Bravo.

I also liked Delilah's response to Goliath's invitation. Served as a subtle reminder that she was created to be Thailog's pet. Looking forward to hopefully seeing more dialogue between her and Goliath in the next issue.

The last panel was also quite good. Thailog with the dual guns. Also nice to see that I predicted who'd have the last line for this issue.

Also glad to see the cameo from Demona. Looked pretty good, too. Hair's not as 'fro-ish as it is in the SLG Avatar for this room. Little suprised to see the armband back on, too. She must have a drawer full of them or something. ( ;

I picked up "Gargoyles" Issue #3 on Wednesday, but I haven't had time to post a review until now.

*** WARNING! DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! SPOILERS BELOW ***

First off, I have to say that the art has improved. David Hedgecock's pencil work isn't perfect yet, but it has gotten substantially better from where it was at in Issue #1. The new colorist, Dustin Evans, seems a much better match for Hedgecock's work. I felt like I had to stand in direct sunlight to read Issue #2 without eye strain. The coloring in Issue #3 was much more vibrant and, well, colorful.

On the writing side, everyone in the online fandom was expecting big things from Greg Weisman, and I think he delivered. Some flashbacks were included to bring new readers up to speed, but that was handled efficiently and didn't really slow things down. Some random comments on specific points:

Detective Tri Chung and the woman who was talking to Al for two page in the Labyrinth, facilitating the flashbacks... I'll be very surprised and disappointed if we don't see them having some role to play in future issues. The TV show had very few one-shot characters, and with the huge cast that "Gargoyles" already has I have to suspect that Greg isn't going to add more without a good reason.

Agent Hacker and the Illuminati... Matt Bluestone and David Xanatos both hear the society is pro-gargoyle, while John Castaway gets told the Illuminati wants them destroyed. Obviously, someone or everyone is being played. Guess we'll just have to see how this develops.

Xanatos' other invitation... that's the address of the White House on the letterhead at the bottom of the pile on page one. I wonder what kind of Halloween party Bill and Hillary Clinton throw. Catering by McDonalds?

Elisa and Goliath... Looks like a page-wide panel was reused before and after the intermediate scene with Xanatos and Hacker. Elisa sits on a parapet with nothing between her back and the pavement 1500 feet below... pretty brave for someone with a documented habit of falling off tall structures. Poor Goliath... if there's one universal thing that males of any species should know by now, it's that it's never a good sign when the female says "We need to talk." Elisa's line to him, "I realize your options are limited," has to be the understatement of the decade. In fact, just for fun, let's run down the big guy's options:

1) Demona, the crazy ex who has tried to kill him about half a dozen times.
2) Delilah, the hybrid clone of Elisa and the aforementioned crazy ex.
3) Hawt gay s3xx0rz with Lexington or Brooklyn.

So yeah, I'd say Goliath's glowing-eyed response of "LIMITED?!" was justified.

Speaking of Brooklyn... ouch. Nothing like trying to make your move on a lady and having your boss sweep in and steal your mojo. The angst and drama is getting to be so heavy, Lexington might need to set him up with a Myspace account.

Broadway and Angela... they're definitely in that "OMG I'm so in love must hold your hand and be near you every moment" phase. I hope Fox took into account the fact that they are now joined at the hip in selecting their costumes.

Hudson and Bronx's "previous engagement"... others keep saying this means they're going to veg in front of the TV all night, but I'm going to guess it means we're going to see Jeffrey Robbins again.

Thing that made me most happy... Demona gets a cameo and recovers the Atlantean crystal that was inside the Praying Gargoyle for the second time. Not sure what I'm talking about? Come to The Gathering this year and find out.

Thing that made me most sad... big ol' cliffhanger ending and now I have to wait two more months to see what happens next.

Sorry for the double post.

I just rewatched "Revelations". I laughed out loud when Hacker says at the end, "See you again soon..." Eleven years later...!

Okay, just read the comic for the fourth time. God, I love it. Wow. It is so good. I must say, I'm liking the art more and more. It was fine in "Nightwatch" and "The Journey", but in "Invitation Only" I really feel it is getting great, esspecially when I remember the old Marvel Gargoyles comics. I think Hedgecock and Evans are doing a great job, and I'm sure they and the others will continue to improve.

*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!* SPOILERS *!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!
Hey, got a question. Right before Goliath and Brook leave for the Labyrinth, Goliath says, "We must honor our obligations first." What is he talking about, and why do Lex, Angela and Broadway seem upset? Is Goliath talking about their obligation to protect and patrol the city and the others just don't want to miss the party or is something else? And if that IS why, why just go to the Labyrinth? And how does Brook know Goliath wants to head to the Labyrinth? Did Goliath tell him/them?

Anyone else notice the Clocktower still under reconstruction on the second page?

Shannon Muir> Yes, I am from Canada. Are you??? And I do know the adress of the White House... I just missed the invite in the background of Page #1 :/ I saw it last night, reading the comic for the umpteenth time. :) I happen to know a lot more about American History than many Americans do... which puzzles me to no end. (I find American History fascinating. I bought US PResidents for Dummies and American History for Dummies. Both good books.)

Todd> I was reading up on the REAL ILLUMINATI and they say that Ben Franklin and Tom Jefferson were members, and that even GW Bush and Father are ones, too. But that's just a rumour...

That is all I will say.

In the words on one of my favorite fictional characters: "Well, I'm back."

I had a hell of a time geting the comic. I had a copy held for me and then it mysteriously wasn't there when I went to get it on Wednesday. Long story short, I got my copy last night.

*!*!*!*!*!*!*! SPOILERS *!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!

My Issue #3 Review, mostly a collection of random thoughts:

- First off, I have to say. I was (and still am) extremely excited to finally have the first canon story in 11 years! Ask my boyfriend, for the last couple days I've been running around the apartment, usually with the comic in hand, saying things like "It's TOO good." and laughing like a kid. I had no idea I'd be this excited. Thank you so much to Greg, the rest of the fandom, the comic staff and Disney. This is wonderful.

- The cover is very nice. Coloring is gorgeous and it is kinda cool having the group "pose" for the "camera. I do wonder, however, why Hudson is all darkly put in the background. It makes him look like he is going to be the villain in this issue or something.

- I noticed that the invitation to the White House states the month and day but not the year. That seems different from most invites, even when the year is understood. I'm guessing Greg didn't mention the year so as not to date the series much and keep it relatively "current". Of course, we sadly don't get a street address for the Eyrie, so I can't send them anything. Pity.

- Okay, Alex is adorable in his gargoyle costume. I was sad to no longer see the winged teddy bear that we saw in "The Journey" TGC episode, but Alex's costume more than makes up in the cuteness department.

- The radio (?) dialogue gives a nice sense of what the mainstream public is thinking about gargoyles. "Infested... monsters... can't talk, right?" Clearly the public is still uncertain what these things are, though the prevailing feeling is negative. "Humans fear what they do not understand." Too true. Also, I know Greg's writing well enough that when I read "So if the creature knocking at your door tonight roars "Trick or Treat", odds are you're safe!" I had a pretty good idea how the issue would end, though I wasn't sure exactly who would be saying the line... or whether they'd be friend or foe.

- The Gargoyle Taskforce. It is so exciting to see this group developed more. Elisa and Morgan are members, which is pretty cool, but we also have Margot and Hacker, so we know there is plenty of opportunity for conflict within the group. Then of course there are the new characters, who knows what they'll be like. Can't say much about Detective Harris yet. Tri Chung makes me think or Terry Chung, though I doubt Greg is gonna reveal the connection there is any at this point. Officer Travanti looks familiar. Is he Morgan's partner, the guy we saw with Morgan in "Temptation"? Are Harris and Chung partners as well?

- Looking at the Gargoyles Taskforce, I can't help but get the sense that Season 3 is going to be a big one for Matt Bluestone. Heading the Taskforce with both his current police partner and former FBI partner as members is interesting. Moreover, I think having him pulled in the different directions (allegiance to Chavez and the NYPD, friendship with the gargoyles, membership in the Illuminati) will really be hard for him, and a lot of fun for us fans to watch.

- As for Hacker himself... well, honestly, I can't help but think about the Weird Sisters. See, when we first saw the Sisters in "City of Stone", they seemed so benevolent, like they were trying to help. They definitely seemed like the "good guys". Of course, we come to find out that things and people are not often so black in white, not in real life and not in Gargoyles. Hacker in "The Silver Falcon" seemed like such a good guy. Trying to help Elisa out and all that. In the beginning of "Revelations" he still seemed like a pretty good guy until the ending, where I began to feel like maybe he had his dark side too, or at least his dark secrets. Now in "Invitation Only", I'm really feeling the same "Is he a good guy or bad guy?" feeling I had with the Sisters. He seems to be yanking a lot of people around. Is he just "following orders"? I dunno, Hacker has me worried now. The Illuminati is up to something, and I don't know whether to feel sorry for Hacker or not.

- Having Jason in the episode was nice. It seems that in a lot of ways he understands Elisa a lot better than Goliath does. I think this is largely a cultural issue. Goliath thinks like a gargoyle. Elisa is like his mate. Jason knows that Elisa is human and has human needs and wants. This is all very heart-breaking. Jason loves Elisa but doesn't feel like he can give her what she wants, and maybe has felt he lost his chance. Goliath loves Elisa and is starting to realize that he may not be able to give her what she wants either "You do not want a mate. You want a husband." Ugh, brutal, Greg, brutal! And Elisa herself may be starting to wonder what it is she really wants in life. It's sad stuff, and I must say that I've never been as interested in the Goliath-Elisa relationship as I am right now after reading "Invitation Only". Can't wait to watch the development. I'm only happy that at least Goliath and Elisa are finally talking about their feelings, even if they might be holding back a little too.

- I remember saying something to the effect of "Poor Brooklyn" when I reviewed "The Journey". I have a feeling I'll be saying that a few more times... Poor Brooklyn. Even before Delilah enters the picture you could see that he is still very distracted by Angela and Broadway. And then this episode really stabs him hard. He goes to the Labyrinth and gets to see Maggie... with Talon and then sees Delilah... and she goes off with Goliath. He must feel that life is terribly unfair. I keep wanting to say, "Stick it out Brooklyn, keep the faith! She is out there... somewhere."

- Demona's first real appearance in Season 3. Nice to see what happened to the Praying Gargoyle remnants, and nice to have the crystal inside be recognized as canon.

- One thing about this episode... it has SOO many characters in it. I have the feeling the reason we didn't see TV episodes with this many characters in it was the cost of all the voice actors, and now the pages are exploding with characters. By the time I was half-way through the book, I was beginning to think I'd turn the page to see Oberon or Zafiro or Nokkar or Dracon! It is kinda fun to have such a big cast in this one though. Gives us a lot to think about. It is fun to see Al again, and fun to see him take a more prominent position in the Labyrinth. I love his omission of Fang when he is talking to the new girl. Who is she anyway? We also hear a mention of Chaz, who apparently is a Quarryman now. Swell. It's a lot of fun to see the Mutates and the Clones. I noticed the weird black teeth are gone from the Clones. A lot of fans actually suspected this would change in time for purely biological reasons, so it is cool to see they have more normal mouths, like Thailog. The cloning must've really weirded up their hormones. All the male clone's eyes glow red and Delilah's glow white. I'm really interested in Burbank. It is fun to see a younger version of Hudson, though I sometimes feel that with the beard this isn't neccesarily visually obvious.

- And finally, Thailog makes his first appearance since "The Reckoning". What is after in the Labyrinth? The Clones? Delilah in particular? Maybe even revenge? I dunno, but I find it interesting that he enters with laser guns blazing. The homeless can't get a break...

The invite to the White House wasn't immediatly clear to me either. I also assumed that Page 1 was a shot of the President's desk or something.

*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*! SPOILERS ENDED *!*!*!*!*!*!*!

Anyway, it has taken me a little time to catch up in here and at Ask Greg. Wow, things are sure busy. This is so much fun you guys. I feel like Gargoyles has just been had a stimulant overdose. It has been a while since the Room has been this busy. Man, this is fun.

Hey, guys. It's nearly 4 AM so I'll make this short. I loved, LOVED the third comic! It's worth an entire decade of waiting for new stories. I'll leave a more thorough review when I'm more awake, but right now, I only have one question...

Blis - <I just don't have a lot of friends who know about gargoyles> You have come to the right place. Take it from a paranoid person, the people in here are honest about what they think and aren't out to kill you. If you can, try to attend the gathering. Nobody will try to rob you blind while there and you'll get to see some of the faces behind the names.

gxb - <Ask Greg is barely open for two days, and the usual dumb questions are pouring in. How do they know?> Greg Weisman mentioned Ask Greg in the "Etched in Stone" section.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

OMG Greg W was responding to my post. OMG. Its cool. Glad he isn't upset at me neither. So it was his choices in the script details for David to draw. Its just to me maybe somewhat, I'm not sure it would've played out like that if it was seen animated. Yes I can understand Goliath's reaction would be like the way it was seen, so I'm ok with it now("Limited!?"). Also from a creative standpoint, I can see the distance between the two as being a creative expression of the situation. Again minor quibbles on my part. I can live with David's art, and I hope I didn't sound like I was knocking his art. Its acceptable for the comic. The new coloring style is making a huge differance on his art, if not complimenting it now. I guess this is my reaction upon a first look read of the issue, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of it neither. Thanks for your posting Greg W.

I got an email today to say the comic was sent. I ordered from Demolition Comics because they are located in Tampa, Florida. I figured they would be the fastest, since they are only a few hours away, lol. I ordered it last night and it was shipped today, so I hope it gets here tomorrow. I'm dying for it now cause I can't even read most of the comments this week without seeing spoilers

I don't think that the President is himself a member of the Illuminati, but I do think that the Illuminati can still do a little "string-pulling" on him when they want or need to. Maybe they went to some trouble to ensure that Xanatos got invited to the White House, but they still not only succeeded, but it's clear that it's something that they very much wanted to happen.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

OK folks. Since I'm ordering from Canada, I figure I'll let you keep track of my order with SLG. I placed the order on Wednesday Evening as soon as I found out the comic was posted at the website. Ordered 3 copies-with shipping costs $21.81(they wouldn't allow me to use the discount code for some reason-maybe because I used one last month). Anyway. Just recieved an email that the order has shipped. I'll let you know as soon as they arrive.

BTW. Vaevictis Asmadi: SLG DOES accept regular credit cards as well as Paypal. Having just gone through the order proceedure again, I saw it, so I knows for sure ^_^. It's a secure website-but again, I know you're comfortable ordering the way you are-gotta go with what feels best. I'm just want to alert you to a faster way to get the comic that's just a safe if you do feel up to trying it.

Phoenician-I think the media is the only way I know it too. But it takes some thought for me to make the connection, I wouldn't know it off the top of my head.

But as a writer, I'm glad media can have some good uses ;)

Shannon: You'd think being a major in Political Science would be reason enough for me to recognize the White House address, but do you know how I learned about it/can always remember it?

It was that Disney film, "My Date with the President's Daughter," where poor Duncan Fletcher asks President Richmond's daughter out (but he doesn't know its HER) and when he asks for her address, she replies, "1600 Pennsylvania Ave."

When he goes to pick her up, he winds up right in front of the White House, his jaw drops and he says to himself, "Well, she played you Duncan!"

Yeah, blame today's media for me knowing the President's address . . . .

Battle Beast - thanks for speaking up! As I recall, you're from Canada right? I was wondering if the White House address reference on the invite might slip by people not from the US.

But then again I wonder how many people in the US would recognize it either. Hey, I went to FedEx to submit something to the Library of Congress and they had to ask if it was a Residence or Business...

I'll have to see if that comic shop will start a pull list for me for "Gargoyles." I'd been planning to get at least two copies of #3, so I'll be talking to them anyway to find out if they're going to order more.

Jurgan: When I read the comic the first time around, I first saw the invitation as if it were on the President's desk, like the President just opened the package, read the invitation to X's party, and simply placed the invitation atop of it.

But now looking at it again, I realize that makes no sense, seeing as the panel shows an eye mask that Xanatos and Hacker later play with.

And then I go and make a double post. D'oh! Sorry, but I just saw this from Battle Beast:

"I still don't HAVE A CLUE where you guys see that David is off to the White House. Is it something Greg mentioned before?"

Look at the very first panel of the comic. Under the invitation to Xanatos's party is a letter from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. That's the address of the White House, so we are to assume that that is the "other inviation" Hacker was referring to.

Blis: Glad you decided to stick around. It really doesn't matter what time you post. Posts stay visible until the end of the week. That's what's great about message boards- you can have conversations whenever it's convenient for you.

I will give you one word of advice, though. If you have a lot of things to say, we prefer that you say them all in one post, rather than making several small posts. It helps keep the conversations flowing smoothly. It's not an official rule, so there's no way you could have known, which is why I'm telling you now. I'm not mad or anything, I just thought you'd like to know for future reference.

Hey gang! I know you've been waiting for MY thoughts on Issue #3, so here we go:

I set up a file at a local Comic shop. #169. I ordered TWO copies. One to read, the other to keep minty fresh.

Read it all the way through once, and then again.

First impression: I didn't love it.

I liked it A LOT. A LOT. But I didn't love it.

It was better than I thought it would be. I didn't sissapoint like I thought it might. People have been hyping it for a long, long time, and I thought it might let people down. It didn't, I see.

Artwork: Very nice. LOVE the first pic of Demona. VERY nice.

Shot of Morgan surprised about Elsa's "boyfriend". Nice.

Thought the Mutates looked nice, save one small shot of Maggie. Overall, looked great!

Xanatos: Something about him. Sometimes he looks weird, sometimes normal. Still, I don't mind.

What was with that weird talon mutating thing? looked like some weird expanding foam insulation thingy goin' on. ???

Nice to see Thailog. Looked good!

Story: I was shocked that Elisa Dumped Goliath, to be sure.

Liked Morgan asking her out. Nice touch.

I still don't HAVE A CLUE where you guys see that David is off to the White House. Is it something Greg mentioned before?

LOVED Alex in his Garg Costume.

LOVED the way Castaway kept calm about not having Hammers that night.

Also like how Brooklyn is so love lorn, he's practically sick that there are no females for him. He'll get his.

And Hacker. Good to see him.

Nice to see Demona pick up the crystal from the Praying Gargoyle.

CONS: Some artwork is off, but that is to be expected. It's not gonna be perfect, and I am just happy with A NEW STORY! (You take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em all and there you have...)

The whole issue felt like there was a lot of material crammed in, but spaced out very well. Everyone was given a shot, from hacker to the clones to jason and his brother.

A lot of material was covered, but unlike SW Episode III, where Lucas crammed in everything into the final film, this once spread the cheez whiz out more.

Over all, great first new issue! They can only get better, and judging by the way this one turned out, the next issues will be Just as good.

THANKS GREG!!! :)

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

Gargoyles need not apply.

Todd: I disagree that Xanatos's invitation to the White House supports the notion of the president being an Illuminatus (or working for them). If anything, the fact that Duval had to "go through a lot of trouble" (I don't remember the exact quote) implies that they do not control the president.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Hellboy: Blood and Iron> Sorry for the double post, but I was just checking the Ask Greg latest responses. In answer to the comment Greg makes in response to Gantros's question, I'm pretty sure Oliver Trumble is original to this movie and hasn't appeared in any other "Hellboy" stories. As Greg pointed out, some people who worked on "Blood and Iron" were at least aware of "Gargoyles". (I think some of them worked on the show, but I wouldn't want to swear to it.) So Xanatos's design may have been an influence. But I doubt it was meant as an in-joke for any "Gargoyles" fans who might possibly catch the movie. Trumble is somewhat similar to Xanatos in character: a well-to-do gut involved in the stuff of myth and legend and trying to use it to his own ends. However, he's considerably less intelligent than Xanatos in his dealings with the forces he unleashes, and it comes back to bite him.
Demonskrye

Greg W.> Thanks for the tidbit about your end of the process on the comic. I'd love to hear more about how much instruction you give on what the art should be; not so much so that I know where to assign blame for stuff i don't like, but just because I'm curious about how the process works. I pose the question on "Ask Greg" assuming the queue doesn't get out of hand.

That being said, my issues with the art remain the same, no matter who made the call. My problem with Elisa and Goliath's discussion is mostly the posing on Goliath. I understand why Elisa would be standing so far away from Goliath. I think it's reasonable that he'd be pretty ticked at her describing his dating options as "limited". (She is being a little insensitive, kind of acting out of her desire to end the relationship and have them both move on.) But the way Goliath looks when Elisa tells him it's over, well, it just doesn't say "Goliath" to me. I can kind of imagine how he would look in that situation: head bowed and turned away a little, eyes shut tight, maybe even gritting his teeth slightly, like what he's hearing is physically painful. What we got just doesn't feel right to me.

Of course, if you think it looks right, then my argument doesn't hold much weight. You likely know Goliath better than almost anyone. And even as I'm writing this, I kow that you guys are the creators and you should do what you think is best, not what's going to please every single fan all the time.

Again, thanks for the info. I'll try to make a point of refering to "the art" in more generic terms most of the time, rather than assigning choices I feel are bad or good to one particular person

Demonskrye

* SPOILERS *

I've been recently wondering if "Genesis Undone" in the Goliath Chronicles was the new production team's "adaptation" of the Double Date story now beginning in the comic, in the same way that "Runaways" was its adaptation of "Timedancer". Both stories involve Thailog and the Clones, and even have a character (Talon in Greg's story, Sevarius in "Genesis Undone") calling out "Send in the Clones!" Of course, I suspect that we'll all be preferring the comics story to "Genesis Undone" - are doing so already.

One thing that strikes me about the scene where Goliath and Elisa are having their big talk is that Elisa's actually sitting on the tower battlements. I can't help but feel amazed by that. If I was standing on the top of a castle which is in turn mounted on top of an enormous skyscraper, I wouldn't even dare go anywhere near the battlements! I'd probably be clinging for dear life onto something solid in the middle of the tower.

Incidentally (as I commented last night while revising the Illuminati entry for GargWiki), Xanatos's official invite from the White House, and Hacker's indication that the Illuminati were responsible for it, have made Matt's theory that even the President works for the Illuminati seem more likely.

Hey gang,

Thanks for all the kind words about issue #3. It's very gratifying that (generally, at least) you guys are enjoying this first foray into new material. You can't know how terrified I've been that you'd hate it -- or worse find yourselves indifferent to it.

Not that I want to respond to every minor criticism, but I do feel the need to clarify things on one point. My scripts are very detailed and specific. David is pencilling what I ask him to pencil. I WANTED distance between Elisa and Goliath on the tower. I wanted Goliath to get angry with glowing eyes in that one panel. Now, you don't have to like these things, believe me. And you don't have to like Dave's art, though I do. But please don't blame David (or in the coming months Nir or Karine or Gordon) for MY storytelling choices. That just wouldn't be fair.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

Fox, Gargoyles #3 came out this Wednesday at the comic book store market. So if you have a comic store nearby, see if they have the issue. What I must stress, is if you do have a store near you, that you should actually subscribe to the Gargoyle comic, through that stores file or pull box subscription service for customers (unless that store has a minimum number of titles for this service, maybe is another question). I mean your guaranteed to get it, and you wouldn't really have to pay additional fees like shipping & handling from these other choices that I'll list. Plus you'll be another reader who's supporting the title by ordering it. In the end (not to sound gloom), its the print number that counts. If you don't have these stores around, then try these other alternatives to get it through Slave Labor Graphics themselves at this link:
http://www.slavelabor.com/product-exec/product_id/503/nm/Gargoyles_3
or http://www.Amazon.com site to order, to my knowledge it isn't available to them yet, but should be soon, if not some short or longer while for them to recieve their copies to sell. Amazon has a deal with SLG for its Disney comics to be sold through them. As said earlier you'll be paying S&H fees. Hope this helps.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

To celebrate a new canon story, I finally finished an old video I've been working on for months.
The song is called "Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self".
When I first heard this song I thought instantly about "Vows". That was about 4 months ago, since then I've worked on and off this one.

It pretty well sticks to Vows plot, but throws some City of Stone, Hunter's Moon, etc into it. Future Demona goes to show Past Demona what the humans did to her. Of course she doesn't see that SHE is respondsible for it. But Past Demona is horrified with what she sees for her future. Demona shows her the massacre, her betrayl of Goliath on Awakenings, her destruction of stone humans on City of Stone, and her attempted murder on Goliath and Hudson in Long Way Till Morning. Future Demona thinks she is doing herself a favor, but it only proves to make her past self realize what unspeakable horrors await and what she will cause one day.

If no one wants to be SPOILED on Gargoyles #3 don't read this POST.

Got and read issue #3. I liked it. I actually wished the comic was double sized so we don't have to wait so long. Greg writes in a very solid linear way. It all leads up to something. My only problems is the fact that I've never seen half the animated series (eventually forgot to watch it back then, and the dvd's didn't go that far) , I didn't know that the one lady character in the labriynth was a new character. I know nothing about that FBI agent Hacker, was it? Or the Illuminatti connections. I don't know about the Illuminatti situation at all. I thought Castaway died in the other comic (may need to look back on it)? But I thought it was funny about him saying "don't attack, wear masks, no hammers" along those lines. Didn't really know Elisa had men in her life. It was nice to see the Mutates too. I really liked the brief flashback panels, about the Mutates and the clones. The latter of which I knew nothing about. Those types of little things Greg puts in helps fans like me who aren't to snuff on the shows history. And then theres Delilah. Who is she? I think shes a clone from what I've heard before, but from whom (I'm thinkin this may not be a hard guess)? But never the less despite my handicap on the familiarities, I think the comic is good. My brother watched the show with me back then, and he too is reading the comic as well. He likes it too.
Now the only problem is the art. Again I think all of us have our own opinions on Hedgecocks art, but certain panels to me didn't seem to make light of their situations.
The one plus: I loved the colors now. Its more 2D cartoon traditional coloring, and is really brighter to look at. Unlike the dull & dark hazed colors that seemed to exist in the previous 2 issues.
- The discussion between Goliath and Elisa. Two or so panels show them doing this serious talk, why was he in a really mad, freaked out state? I mean to the point his eyes were lit? I don't think he would've been like that in such a discussion. Unless he's really upset about the physical differences between them and is offended? Still IMO a little too exagerated for such a moment.
- Same scenery, why were they at opposite ends of the tower roof in such a discussion? I thought they should've been within close proximity, like a few feet.
- When the Gargoyles are in the tower they are looking around and yet we have Brooklyn's eyes all without pupils, again meaning that he's mad about something? Or was this an oversight on the artist? Yet these were the previewed pages seen on the net, and I never thought anything about this til now.
Really liked the turnover where Goliath needs to ask Delilah for a date, yet Brooklyn wanted to do this with her. Never new about Delilah or Brooklyns feelings for her in the first place. So it was neats to see things aren't picture perfect for all the characters.

Now I've no idea if this is what Greg scripted to David to draw out, or was he allowed to interpret things the way he see's it, but I felt those panels were wrong to some extant and is probably a minor quible on my thoughts of this issue. Great twist on Thailogs arrival through use of Goliaths DNA entry recognition. Can't wait for the next issue.

Wow, I was totally blown away by Issue #3 since I got my copy of it yesterday.

I, too, am wondering who the new character is and also happy to see the Mutates again and I can't wait to see what happens in the next issue given the unexpected cliff-hanger at the end of this issue.

Blis> Welcome to the Comment Room! Sorry you didn't get a response earlier. Guess we're just a bit overly caught up in the excitement about issue #3 coming out. Got your copy yet?

In case you didn't know (and please ignore this if you already do), the comment room functions rather like a message board, in that people check it, read what's happened since they last posted, and make a new post. The chat room has live discussion with immediate responses to whatever you say. You seem pretty clear on this already, but some newcomers don't realize that the comment room is not live chat and responses don't come right away.

This is, as others have said, a nice group of people. If you've got questions or thoughts or comments on "Gargoyles", they'll be happy to listen and respond.

Blis: Welcome to the fandom! Sorry no one said anything sooner- I guess we missed your comment. The best way to get into the fandom and make friends here would be to just jump in and start talking. Hope you stick around!

I've got my comic, and I've read it twice. I'll write a full review later, but I can't now because I've got a lot to say.

Oh, also, hypothetically, you know what would be really funny? It would be hilarious if some troll were to come in here and claim that we'd somehow "destroyed" Gargoyles. Considering that the brand new comic came out yesterday and we're now entering a new Golden Age of Gargoyles, anyone who made a claim like that would look like an enormous jackass.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Blis -- welcome to the site. You might note that the chat room often has people in it, particularly in the evenings, as well. Sometimes you have to say something and you'll stir up a few lurkers. And you'll find LOTS of people who like the show here.

You know, just as an observation -- I've been involved fandom (in general) for a long, long time. And I keep coming back to Gargs fandom -- have been for more than a decade now. It's just a great group of people. *randomly hugs people*

Leva - [leva at firefox dot org]

Blis - Heh, you couldn't find a better place to find people who love gargoyles...or are at least crazy about them. We've had a few new people coming to the room of late like yourself. Then there are those like Todd, Patrick, Blaise, Matt & others who have been hangin' around here for 5 to 10 years. Now that we've got new stories in the form of the comic book, there's lots to talk about so feel free. Join in.

I've yet to put my review on Ask Greg, but I did want to say what I loved about Issue #3:

(takes copy out of plastic . . . )

****SPOILERS****

I love the invitation by the Xanatos family . . . I don't know, I just think the Eyrie Building rocks.

Alex is so cute in that costume (I'd love my kid to have one of those . . . heck, "I" want one of those!)

I do have a feeling Tri Chung is related to another Chung we may know one day . . . .

Love the clarrification that it's Officer Morgan Morgan.

Love to hate Margot for being so "Margot-y" -- wonder what Brendan's doing??

Hacker is . . . wow. Cool to see him doing an Illuminati job of his that isn't just throwing Matt on wild goose-chases.

And I do agree: Matt doesn't seem to trust Hacker at all.

I'm curious if Jason is using his English or Scottish accent when talking to Elisa? Hmmm . . . .

Love the enchanted jewelry line -- Fox is such a great match for X.

Owen rocks, even though he's in just one panel.

I wonder where I can get a ring like Hacker's?? (and no, I won't visit the Hotel Cabal to earn one!)

I love the symmettric (sp?) panel of Goliath and Elisa when talking about their relationship.

I love that little kid in the Labyrinth with the Superman "G" shirt. Wonder what that stands for?? :P

Love the whole flashback scene, and I know I'm going to be losing alot of those points in the Contest we had a couple of weeks ago . . . .

And finally, I enjoyed the more intelligent Castaway, as well as the surprise Thailog.

****END SPOILERS****

Again, LOVED THE ISSUE -- May can't come soon enough!

-> dph:
I don't think any mathematically-significant properties of the numbers 36 or 32 will provide hints at their meaning in the comic. It may be an obscure literary reference, but I doubt it. And I'm pretty sure those are the only cases in which Wikipedia would help. I'd say that odds are, the meanings were assigned somewhat arbitrarily by someone in the organization, and can only be revealed in the comic itself later. On the other hand, if I were going to create a list of code numbers, it would probably be based in binary, which would mean the meaning of 36 might be related to the meaning of 32 and the meaning of 4.

****Blaise pops back in, holding the new comic.**** After all the crap that happened at the start of the week I figured I owed it to myself to at least get this baby when it came out (also I wanted to know for certain if it was the "Double Date" story or not). Well, fortunately I had just enough on credit.
So, without further ado...

THE FIRST NEW STORY> Picked up mine at the Golden Apple comic book shop on Melrose and La Brea. Had a bit of difficulty finding it, though. When I picked up Issue #2, it was shelved in the "Alternative" section with the rest of Slave Labor's titles. This time, it was in the "Kid's" section. I was kind of miffed about that, but oh well.
******************SPOILERS**********************

--One thing I can definitely say about "Gargoyles"--I don't mind when it proves me wrong. I am of course referring to the upcoming "Double Date" story that will probably be in the next issue. This issue laid the pipe for it.
I had wondered how Elisa would go from the one "date" in THE JOURNEY to breaking up with the big G. To me, it seems that the two major catalysts for Elisa's decision to break-up with Goliath (though they've only REALLY officially been together for a few DAYS) are 1) Morgan's asking her out on a date (and calling it such), and 2) Jason's little statement, "You need to be with a man who can give you everything you've ever wanted!" And we know that isn't quite Goliath.
--I love the opening spiel (on the radio?) where the announcer jokes about how to tell "real" gargoyles from people in costumes. In a way, I found it a bit outrageous how easily people assume the "beasties" can't talk.
Still, I have to say, it makes perfect sense that a gargoyle would be the most popular costume at this time (and Alex's costume is cute).
--The new "Gargoyle Task Force" where we've got at least TWO new faces. I'm wondering if the other cop--Phil Tavanti--might not be Morgan's partner from several episodes of the show. I'll also be very interested in the way Matt handles things--especially with Margot watching him.
--Hacker and the Illuminati. Manipulators of even the master manipulator (Xanatos). Like Todd, I love the way he changes his story with each visit. It's interesting to compare and contrast his..."scene partner's" reactions to him--Matt is clearly unhappy (and slow to use the "address numbers"), Xanatos seems amused (even when he finds out he's off to the White House), and Castaway is just pleasant and quiet (after all, they are his benefactors).
I also wonder at the significance of the numbers, and the fact that Matt/Xanatos/Castaway greet with the higher number, while Hacker responds with the lower number. Frankly, I was surprised that Castaway responded with a number at all--I know he's involved with the society, but I didn't know they made him a full member!
One last thing: I loved Hacker's hand tightening on Matt's shoulder when he repeated, "don't be coy."
--I loved Goliath and Elisa's discussion, and got a good laugh from Goliath's reaction to Elisa's "I realize your options are limited." Yeah, they're limited all right--to one (unless you want to count the genocidal maniac on the next page).
--Great walk-on (or "glide-on") for Demona.
--I thought the reintroduction for the Labyrinth and the Mutates and Clones was very well done. I recognized Al immediately. The "new kid" looks fascinating. I wonder what her story is (probably a runaway or something). For that matter, I can't help wondering who her VOICE would have been.
Knowing Greg, I really should have seen the "SEND IN THE CLONES" bit coming. Even then, the panel itself is a bit strange (the clones actually look like they're about to attack). It's also fascinating, in the next panel to compare and contrast Brooklyn and Malibu (maybe it's an art thing, but Malibu has a bigger snout).
I actually like Al's backstory-telling. It's well done, we get some nice panels (I particularly liked the one with Sevarius where half of his face is seen through a glass container of liquid and thus looks distorted and practically demonic). I also noticed Al stopped short of mentioning Fang. He also never mentioned Xanatos by name--just called him "rich dude."
--Let me just echo, along with several other people, poor Brooklyn. He was actually going to ask Delilah out and Goliath (unknowingly) shuts him down! Actually, this is another thing I kind of expected--Brooklyn attempting to hook up with Delilah, I mean (not Goliath doing it at the same time, though).
--I haven't seen the two TGC episodes featuring "the other" Castaway for several years now, but this version does seem to have some sense. He probably would love to give the go ahead to use hammers (and damn the humans stupid enough to dare dress as those evil monsters), but he knows it would be better in the long term to avoid that. In a way, this makes him more dangerous.
And count me as another who thinks that the "Chaz" mentioned is Fang's former crony from KINGDOM. Heck the guy Castaway's talking to on the phone is probably the other crony from the same episode (with the moustache, cap and shades).
--And I KNEW Thailog would show up at the end and have the last line (and a pretty good one, too). Great reveal (and a chilling final close-up). Did anyone else notice that he isn't actually firing those two big guns he has? The lasers are actually aiming lasers.
--One thing that struck me about this episode--er, issue--is the way that Greg fills in on all the necessary backstory, but doesn't try to explain everything. Demona appears, but her name still hasn't been mentioned in the comic thus far, and prior to this we've only seen her in a brief "flashback" panel. And only those of us "in the know" realize the significance of the crystal. Nor is Castaway's being Jon Canmore revealed, or his relation to Jason. In fact, there's no indication Jason even has siblings, and no hint to his exact crimes (or the legacy of the Hunter, for that matter) is brought up. WE know the answers, sure, a good many of us were there from Day One of the series. But thinking of how a "new reader" might look at this, I find Greg's craft to be very well done here.
--If I have any big complaint in regards to this issue, it's only that I have to wait at least two months for the next one.

"I'll tell you one thing, if the primates that we came from had known that someday politicians would come out of the gene pool, they'd've stayed up in the trees and written evolution off as a bad idea ... I always thought the opposable thumb was overrated." - Captain John Sheridan

I bought #3 today, and enjoyed reading the first new canon "Gargoyles" story in ten years as well.

* SPOILERS *

A lot of fun things here. Agent Hacker's interaction with Matt, Xanatos, and Castaway was a lot of fun, especially the way that his claims about what the Illuminati's agenda is towards the gargoyles keep on changing. I suspect that he's lying on all three occasions. (I'm certain that he's lying about the Illuminati wanting "the complete destruction of the gargoyles"; they're not that wasteful.)

I'm intrigued by the "36" "32" greeting as well. (At first I thought it was the identification numbers for Matt and Hacker, but when the same numbers were used for the meetings with Xanatos and Castaway as well, I changed my mind.)

I wonder if the "new character" in the Labyrinth really is new; there's something about her that makes me suspect that she's Elisa in disguise. Her glum look at the end and "It's not that - " line particularly help (she'd certainly be concerned for many reasons at seeing Goliath going off with Delilah - at even meeting Delilah at all).

Does anybody besides me think that Greg was having some fun with us by having Elisa speak to both Officer Morgan and Jason Canmore in the same issue?

Other tidbits that I enjoyed:

Alex in his gargoyle costume (it definitely provokes an "awwww!" response).

Matt saying that the Gargoyle Task Force should not go "all medieval in the city" (an appropriate phrase, given the origins of Goliath and his clan).

Bronx and Hudson having a "previous engagement". (Which shows good sense on Hudson's part; as I said before, I don't think that it's a good idea to let Bronx on the loose at any event which is likely to have a buffet.)

Xanatos's invitation (or summons) to the White House (I'd like to see what unfolds there).

Demona recovering the crystal from the Praying Gargoyle's remains.

Talon shouting "Send in the Clones!" (Don't you just know that somebody was going to say that?)

Brooklyn's response to Delilah (Strike Three! Fortunately, because of Katana, he's not out yet after all).

Castaway displaying much more common sense in handling the Quarrymen than his "Goliath Chronicles" counterpart did (and, yep, I think that the Chaz he mentions is the one from "Kingdom", especially since Greg Weisman mentioned his suspicions that Chaz and the other guy joined the Quarrymen).

Oh, and speaking of "Kingdom", I liked Al's role here as well (and was amused when he left out Fang's name in his backstory account - too bad that Fang wasn't within earshot to comment on it!).

A very enjoyable new issue. I'm looking forward to #4.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

What SPOILER-y is this?

Got my copy from my local comic shop. We have a subscription box there so my copy was waiting for me and there were a couple more on the shelf. (We had stopped my Newbury Comics earlier, but I didn't see any copies. Could be that particular store sold out of what they had, but Newbury's been dialing down their ordering or indy comics.)

To get the negative stuff out of the way first, I am still just not feeling the artwork. Hedgecock remains inconsitent at best. Some panels look fine, but a lot of them have weird proportions on characters, facial features that are too big, too smal, or just out of place, or storytelling choices that are just kind of bad. I feel like the unfortunately artistic low point of the issue is when Goliath and Elis are having their "talk". The next to last panel on page 10 is pulled too far back to read Goliath's expression and youcan't tell anything from his body language. And I'm afraid Goliath's reaction to Elisa breaking up with him looks more like he's going to puke than anything. It's just not him. The thing that really drives me nuts is that Greg Guler and Stephanie Lostimolo give us art on the cover that's so much better than what's inside.

But enough negativity. This is, after all, the first new canon "Gargoyles" story in years and there's a lot to like here. Though I'd kind of hoped we'd get to see the rest of the cast in costume this time around, I'm still looking forward to it next issue, and Alex's outfit was a nice teaser. I'm also curious to meet the rest of the Gargoyle Task Force and find out what they really think about their new jobs. I'm definitely thinking Morgan is going to be Elisa's date for the masquerade, given Jason's current state of injury and handcuffedness. I only caught what Demona was up to on my second read-through. Must be fun for those who have seen/heard what exists of a certain episode of a show that never happened. It was nice seeing the clones again, though I wish there was some way newcomers could magicly know the whole Labyrinth and its residents story without us losing two pages to recap. Hacker and the Iluminati are going to be interesting to watch. I just hope it isn't too much for new readers to follow. Due to the solicitation summaries and whatnot, Thailog's appearence wasn't to surprising, but I can't help but winder if anyone was on the recieving end of his lazer guns. Hedgecock seems to enjoy drawing him, and well he should.

But of course, the big story here is Elisa and Goliath. And most of my worries on that front were put to rest. Though I wish we had a slightly better sense of how much time was passing between this issue and "The Journey", I still felt Elisa's reasoning held up. The influence of what Morgan and Jason tell her helps a lot. In light of this, I think her bringing another date to the masquerade is to tell Goliath (and herself) "I'm serious about this. It really is over between us." Kudos to Greg W. for making this read so well. I had my doubts, but Elisa's character still feels true.

Here's to an on time and awesome issue four!

Gargoyles #3 - A review

******** SPOILERS *********************

Well, that was certainly a let down. Fox getting all weepy, she was so out of character. The real Fox would kick ass and take names, till she found out where her son was. And Pat Doyle was the most pointless villain I've ever seen...

... whoops, this isn't "Ransom"

The first new canon story in eleven years, and I enjoyed every page of it. I have not been this excited for a comic book in a long time, and I read a lot of comic books.

Clearly part one, and thus some set-up needed, and having to remind readers who the Clones and the Mutates are and where they came from. But, understandable. Very understandable.

I loved Martin Hacker in this issue, playing everyone, telling everybody what they want to hear. Matt, of course, does not seem to trust him at all.

Castaway has a nice appearance here, behaving sane and not like a raving lunatic, as many in the fandom seem to think he behaves as 24/7. I'll blame TGC for that. Here, he was rational, cool, and wisely giving an order for the Quarrymen to be unarmed this night.

BTW, is that the same Chaz that was one of Fang's flunkies in "Kingdom"?

Already knew Xanatos would be visiting the White House thanks to the solicitations, should be interesting to see what he's up to.

Jason's cameo was very welcome, and I'm ruling him out as Elisa's date. Morgan actually asked her out, Jason is handcuffed to a bed and obviously bitter. Hope to see more of him.

Goliath & Elisa - The emotional meat of the story. Their talk did not disappoint. Elisa was nothing but reasonable anr realistic. This is not like dating and hoping for a future with someone of a different race and/or religion. Goliath and Elisa are different species. It would not make sense if she wasn't having second thoughts.

Nice cliffhanger ending, with Thailog bursting into the Labyrinth, guns blazing. Makes me all the more eager to read #4... gotta wait till May.

Poor Brooklyn, having to watch Broadway and Angela make nice, and then try to work up the nerve to ask Delilah out, only for Goliath to beat him to her. Though, the way Goliath looks, he'd probably have preferred to let Brooklyn have her.

"Thirty-six", "Thirty-two". That's gotta be a reference to something, I just know it.

And, Demona. Great to see her again, she's always been my favorite. Even if it's only for one page, and with no dialogue. Aw well, I'm hopeful we'll see her again very soon.

I re-read issues #1 & 2 last night in preparation for today's big event. "The Journey" had never been one of my favorite episodes, mostly because it signalled the beginning of the end. I enjoyed the story much more this time in its new context as a "season premier".

Hey, it looks like it's time for my lunch break. I'm off to the comic store!!!

Well, looks like I've missed a lot. I'll try to keep this current.

I'm on Greg B's side with this: the relationship between Elisa and Goliath should be complicated. I really liked the way it was handled in "Hunter's Moon"

I also hope to get my copy of #3 on Saturday, when the comic shop gets it on on Friday (can't make it on Friday), along with the Fire Rodan plush I ordered as an early birthday present to me.

Good for Keith, though I'm going to skip that movie, too. I like plenty of dumb things, but this movie doesn't have any of my favourite Transformers in it (and I mean that literally, not in the "they're not the real character because they're writing him wrong" sense), and something about turning Transformers into a huge live-action blockbuster seems wrong to me.

Also, while Vaevictus was posting his thoughts on later season 2 episodes, I was experiencing them for myself, some for the first time, others from years ago. Access to Gargoyles on my local TV stations was extremely sporadic, so while I've read a lot of material on these episodes, I was until now a newbie in the sense of never seeing the actual episodes.

While I have no desire to the movie, because Michael Bay is a hack, I am glad that Keith is part of another high profile movie.

I bought Happy Feet. I love that movie. They also included two scenes in the special features that they finished after the movie was released. One is a cute scene between Memphis and Baby Mumble and the other is a little dedication to Steve Irwin. He was originally cast as an albertross. I think the scene should have remained in the movie as it gave Irwin a more Irwin-moment than the elephant seal one that we know in the movie now, but I am grateful they included it as a bonus feature. But its a pretty bare bones DVD for an Oscar winner. No commentary even. I bet a 2 disc special edition will be out in time for Christmas

While we're all eager about the comic coming out tomorrow, something else came out today that people here may be interested in: the Oscar-winning (Best Animated Feature) "Happy Feet" is now on DVD. If you missed this one in theaters, you should definitely check it out. It's a charming, incredibly entertaining movie that slips in a powerful and timely message. Don't miss it.

Jurgan: "The Illuminati has a purpose for the Quarreymen, but I don't think a scheme this size is about anything as base as revenge. They strike me as far too pragmatic for that."

Yeah, I'll have to agree with you: I think my past that thought developed because I just recently saw "Revelations" and that line from Malone was still hovering in my head:

"If I waste a gargoyle, it'll be a black mark, no doubt about it. But if I let Goliath become the first guest to EVER leave the Hotel Cabal -- that flushing sound you hear will be my 75 year pension going DOWN the drain . . . ."

Great line by the way.

So yeah, thoughts confused -- the Illuminati would be more vengeful at Malone, and not necessarily a whole species of gargoyles.

And Siren and Asatira: I'm just so giddy I can't help THINK about Gargoyles, which inevitably leads me to speculation (though not to a scary extreme) -- bless you guys for having it the other way around.

Asatira

Maybe I am one of the few people, but I am really not spending a lot of thought on what #3 will be like. I'm just just happy its less then 24 hours away. My excitment outweighs my speculation.
Siren

Matt: I think Morgan represents a genuine choice for her to have a normal life, whereas Jason is always going to tie her back to the world of the gargoyles. I think it will be Jason though because there's more symmetry. Jason has been kind of pitched as like a human version of Goliath in some respects; Delilah is like a gargoyle version of Elisa in certain respects. (And to Delilah, Goliath is like an available version of Thailog).

I don't find it especially peculiar that Goliath and Elisa would come crashing down to reality and that Elisa, of the two, would be more cautious. But we'll have to see how it plays out rather than assuming from things that have been said.

At any rate, I'm going to absent myself from the CR until I've read #3 to make absolutely sure I'm not spoilt. Luckily, I've been able to find a comic shop which can get it for me within a couple of weeks as opposed to a couple of months. Everybody, enjoy, er, G-Day!

Ed

Todd: Very interesting point about the Q-Men. The Illuminati must have known it was inevitable that, in a city the size of New York, eventually the gargoyles' existence would become public. Had it not occurred on its own, they could have given matters a push. On the other hand, Greg has said that Jon Canmore approached them, and not the other way around, so the Q-Men project may have launched sooner than they expected. I assume that they knew the gargoyle "threat" would create some sort of group of bigots and the Illuminati planned to approach them at that time, but Jon's offer was too perfect to pass up. That may mean, then, that they never intended to turn it over to someone so unstable, and the Quarreymen may someday come into conflict with their benefactors.

Phoenician: "Looks like the society really didn't like the fact someone actually left the Hotel Cabal AND drove Malone to insanity/death."

I doubt that has anything to do with it. The Illuminati has a purpose for the Quarreymen, but I don't think a scheme this size is about anything as base as revenge. They strike me as far too pragmatic for that.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Antiyonder: Thanks for the heads up on this Saturday! I've been looking forward to this ep of KP since Steve Loter teased about it last year, but now I'm even more excited knowing this is a Greg ep.

Todd: Interesting bit on the Illuminati/Quarrymen as well. Looks like the society really didn't like the fact someone actually left the Hotel Cabal AND drove Malone to insanity/death.

Phil: Good point on Chavez as well -- A good chunk know about the Gargoyles and she's seriously out of the loop. Elisa and Matt are fully aware and allied -- Derek Maza, a former cop is NOW a gargoyle himself, and Peter Maza, her former boss, knows of them since Arizona and arguably since he knew about Talon. If Morgan is the one on the date (and if it is the date), yeah . . . it will be intriguing to know when she'll find out the "full story." Wonder how she'll react.

I just called my secondary comic shop, and they told me I should be able to just stop by and grab my issues of Gargoyles and 24L Nightfall with ease. Oh happy day!

VA: Hope Amazon doesn't take too long for you . . . .

Phoenician - [theoneandonlyphoenician at yahoo dot com]
"The Suspense is Terrible . . . I Hope it Lasts" -- Willy Wonka

If it is Morgan, I seriously doubt that Elisa will tell him that she's in love with Goliath but is trying to get over him, that gargoyles don't normally date, that Delilah is a clone of her and Goliath's ex-wife, etc. I mean, even without the species issue, soap-opera stuff like that could scare people away!

I think she would only tell him that Goliath is a friend and he's going on a date with a female gargoyle.

Anyway, since I'll be ordering from Amazon, which may take a few weeks or even a month or so, I'll have to skip out of the room until I've got ahold of the book.

Cheers, everyone.

Blaise> Of course, Greg has always said that everything in ASK GREG is subject to change, so I am willing to admit the possibility that this COULD be the "Double Date."

Well, Vinnie was given a new last name in the comic, so we already saw an example of Ask Greg info subject to change.

I see I have an evil twin in this room (Ozzie Arcane). He even watches Captain N too.

Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]

In anticipation of tomorrow's big event, I just went back and re-read the Ask Greg archives about the Halloween Double Date. The hints we've heard about issue #3 seem to mesh with the hints we've been given about that story, so I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing the beginning of it tomorrow, continuing on into #4.

Greg's either a genius or just lucky (or both), but the information he's revealed is just the right amount to tease without spoiling the story. We know enough to be interested, but there are still questions that need to be answered. If I didn't know anything about the story, I wouldn't be nearly as excited as I am. Tomorrow I might have to call in sick to work...

My opinion on the Jason/Morgan question: At first, I had thought that Jason would be the best choice for Elisa to date. They already have an attraction to each other and I'd love to see his interaction with Goliath. But as others have said, he's a criminal, and it's only five days since his injury which seems a little too early to be going out.
Then there's Morgan. He does not seem to have much chemistry with Elisa. And although he's encountered the gargoyles several times, he hasn't had personal interaction with them and is presumably unaware of Elisa's relationship with them. That's a lot to have to explain all at once.
But as I thought more about it, from a storytelling point-of-view Morgan is ideal. As Elisa fills him in on what he needs to know, Greg is also giving new readers the backstory they need. So my prediction is that we'll see Morgan.

But with Matt and now Morgan in the loop, I'm curious how much longer it will be until Chavez finds out.

Phil - [p1anderson at go dot com]

What I meant was my bank checking card.
Vaevictis Asmadi

Blaise > I'm so sorry to hear what happened! I really hope that you get reimbursed somehow. I once had my credit checking stolen and once I reported fraud all the fraudulent charges to it were dropped by my bank.

Todd > You have a good point about the Quarrymen. Where did all that stuff come from? It can't be the Canmores, they thought Demona was the only "demon" left, so they had no real reason to start an entire mob.

Double Date > Another thing to consider is that if Elisa picks Morgan, she has to first tell him all about the gargoyles before taking him on a double date that includes Goliath. Unless Greg has changed his mind and it isn't a double date, but only two separate dates on the same night. Goliath and Delilah go gliding around while Elisa and some guy stay out of sight in a restaurant somewhere. If not... Elisa would have some explaining to do with Morgan. And she'd have to be very certain he wouldn't squeal to Margot or the Captain or anyone else.

Vaevictis Asmadi

Did Greg ever actually say that the Double Date would take place after years of pussyfooting around? (And even if he did, the "years of pussyfooting around" might include the period between "Awakening" and "Hunter's Moon" as well.)

One thing about the Quarrymen that I'd like to see explored at some point in the comic is this. The evidence is that Castaway holds his big meeting and sets up the Quarrymen just a couple of days after the events in "Hunter's Moon" (the city's still clearly reeling from the discovery that the gargoyles actually exist). Now, it's obvious that that wouldn't have given anybody enough time to make all those uniforms and hoods, and certainly not enough time to design and make all those electrified hammers, not even with the Illuminati involved. So the most likely explanation is that the Quarryman equipment had all been made before the events in "Hunter's Moon" and was just waiting for the moment when the time was right to set up an anti-gargoyle organization.

It would certainly explain, by the way, why we don't hear a peep out of the Illuminati for the rest of the second season after "Revelations". They were quietly building up to their next big plan regarding the gargoyles.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Purplegoldfish:The previews did say "scattered clan." Maybe everyone's all over the place.

I can see it now Hudson and Bronx at Jeffery Robbins House. Lexington stuck with Alex somewhere. Brooklyn probably gets fed up with seeing Broadway and Angela together, goes off somewhere and has a confrontation with the Quarrymen. Angela and Broadway are either getting romantic somewhere or going after Demona.

Vicky82 - [Vickyfanofwwe at aol dot com]

Here's my take on it:
I do think this is the Double date story-it's Halloween, Goliath and elisa have a talk, and there's a setback in their relationship. That's basically the prerequisite of the Double date story that Greg has been describing all this time.

I do think elisa is being cruel, but I don't think this is totally out of character for her. I think that she is so caught up in her own emotions, her own sadness and denial, that she fails to see how much she's hurting goliath. She has been shown to have a selfish streak. I just hope that in #3, in the pages we haven't seen before the preview pages, there's an indication of why she has the sudden change of heart, and anti-epiphany I suppose.

Also, how do we know for certain that elisa and goliath are going to xanatos' party? They could be going to the block party again. The previews did say "scattered clan." Maybe everyone's all over the place.

Purplegoldfish - [skydragonn at aol dot com]

I'm a fan of "Star Wars" but I can't stand Jar-Jar Binks. I'm a fan of "Star Trek" but I couldn't stand to watch "Enterprise." I love Phil Collins and Elton John but I still wonder WTH they were smoking when they agreed to sell themselves to Disney. I think I'm entitled to be a "Gargoyles" fan even if there's one or two things in the canon or soon-to-be-canon that in my opinion make little sense.

"When you work with handcuffs as long as I have, you pick up a few tricks." - Elisa Maza, "Double Jeopardy"

****Blaise walks into the Room through an open door, his normally red robes a drab grey.**** Two days away from a new story...so why am I depressed? Maybe because money's so tight I might not be able to pick up the new issue this Wed. (and so will be avoiding spoilers like the plague). Then, too, there's the fact that I'm now a victim of identity theft--someone cleaned out my checking account yesterday (there wasn't much to get, though--I'm in my "starving artist" phase). My credit union will probably reimburse me once the report is filed, but it's going to take a week at least.
That reminds me...

KINGCOBRA_582> As bad as my situation is, I at least did not have a gun shoved in my face. This is a bit belated, but I'm glad you made it through all right.

THE NEW STORY> I will read this...eventually. I'll just have to see what this week holds for me.
However, I will say this (again)--I am still not convinced that this is Greg's "Double Date" story. The way Greg described it, this was supposed to take place after "years" of Goliath and Elisa "pussyfooting around" the question of their relationship, and was to act as the catalyst for them to permanantly get together and stay together. It just doesn't seem like we're there yet.
Of course, Greg has always said that everything in ASK GREG is subject to change, so I am willing to admit the possibility that this COULD be the "Double Date."
But I won't be surprised if it's not.
And while we're on the subject...Jason. I just find him the more interesting choice right now. Although...if Jason is a "human version of Goliath" ( and Elisa feels that way about him at all) then she might decide to go with Morgan.

Well, that's it from me. I've got to head back to RL and juggle my bills to try and stay afloat. I'll be back once I've finally read the NEW GARGOYLES STORY! Until then, farewell. ****Blaise quietly fades from view.****

Barracuda makes a good point about whether Elisa would even attend Xanatos's party. The thing that had occurred to me is that Xanatos is currently rumored to be sheltering the gargoyles, though so far nobody has any proof. Under such circumstances, I wonder if it'd be that advisable for Elisa, as a member of the NYPD, to be accepting an invite from someone who's likely to be under scrutiny at the time. Not as bad, perhaps, as going out with Jason Canmore after he aided and abetted in the attack on the 23rd precinct police station, but still the sort of thing that Internal Affairs wouldn't be too happy about. (For that matter, she'll have to make certain that not too many people notice her visiting the Eyrie Building in a regular or semi-regular fashion.)
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

From Elisa saying "I feel the same way" to dumping him to going out one a date with someone else (the last two points in the same night mind you) is cold, and it reflects poorly on her as a character. This isn't about making characters right or doing good all the time, it's about what we believe Elisa would do from what we know of her through 65 episodes. She didn't seem scared after the Quarrymen incident, just more sure of her relationship with Goliath than ever IMHO. I hope this isn't the infamous double date that Greg has been alluding to for a long time, since it seems way too soon for Elisa to even attempt something like this. And isn't Jason still in the hospital at this time? He was run through with a laser beam. I doubt Elisa is even going to this party of Xanatos', but I suppose we'll have to wait for Wednesday.
The Barracuda

Greg B: <Characters who are right all the time, and always do good are... unrealistic.>

Funny you should mention that. Not long before Goliath and Elisa have their talk (at least, not long in the timeline of the universe), what did we see Goliath doing in "Hunter's Moon"? Taking turns that some might not have been expecting.

PATRICK> "Elisa's pretty cold if she gives Goliath the "We have to talk," dumps him, and goes out on a Halloween date with Morgan all in the course of 12 hours time. Just my two cents."

Of course, Goliath and Elisa's relationship isn't the Lovey Dovey Sugar Coated Candy Land that most fanfics make it out to be.

It took Elisa 65 episodes to acknowledge that her feelings for him exist. They attempted a date, which obviously went badly. And, well, he's a different species. Some people have issues dating outside race and religion. I mean, seriously... this is outside species. She has a lot to think about. How much of a future is there with him? Does she want kids one day? Because Goliath won't be able to give her any. What would her family think?

We'll find out on Wednesday, but I don't think she does this to be cold, or even to hurt him. Hell, I think she's trying to convince herself more than anything else that it's impossible. She's scared. It's only natural. And Elisa has always, always been a very guarded person.

People do stupid things that hurt the ones they love all the time. And I'm glad Greg seems to be taking this in a more realistic direction. Too many fanfics just have them jumping into bed, or declaring their undying love. Yeah, we last saw them canon-wise ten years ago, we've had time, but they've only had a few days at most since "Hunter's Moon Part Three"

They will get together, we know they will. But, it shouldn't be easy. And if Elisa comes off as cold, well... I'm glad the characters are flawed. They don't always do the right thing, make the right decision, and actions have consequences. Characters who are right all the time, and always do good are... unrealistic.

Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

Gary S. writes...

Dear Mr. Wiseman:

What became of the new hunters right after the end of Gargoyles' 2nd Season? I mean did Jason and her sister went to jail for destroying the police station? Was their other brother responsible for creation the Quarrymen? Did the Quarrymen forced Jason to use his technology on the Gargoyles? Did Jason became a civil rights activist or what? I hope I'm not asking to much. I'm just curious.

Greg responds...

Jason went to a halfway house where he could rehab and serve out his sentence under some semblance of restriction.

Robyn was coerced into leading the Redemption Squad (aka Bad Guys).

Jon changed his name to John Castaway and became the founder of the Quarrymen.

Jason would be the subject of Jon, Robyn and Elisa's on-going interest -- as he personally struggled to redirect his life.

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=4544

I have to imagine, then, that Jason has been precluded by the state of New York from going on a date with a detective of the NYPD. As such, I put $10 down on Morgan being Elisa's date.

As for the date, I personally prefer Jason but it will most likely be Morgan. Jason would add a lot more emotional weight to the story because he's in love with her. But it's kind of hard to imagine him going to a party a few days after being shot through the spine

I've never seen any romantic chemistry between Elisa and morgan-they just seem like casual friendly coworkers. But since she's going on this date to prove to herself that she should find a human boyfriend, it doesn't really matter who she goes with since the outcome would be the same.

I actually think that Matt bluestone would be an interesting candidate for her date, storywise. I wonder if Matt is aware at all of elisa's feelings for goliath?

Cool, thanks HoE, I'll check it out.

Also, I have a favor to ask everyone. I already have two videos in mind for the music video competition for this year's Gathering, but wanted to see what you guys think I should enter. The oldest videos I have, the ones with poor VHS quality video are currently being remade with DVD quality video, so don't rate those ones on video quality please.

Fastest way to see all my Gargoyles videos is to go to www.youtube.com and in the search window type "sirengarg gargoyles" it will bring them all up, so you don't have to search for them. Please post what two you think are my best and thanks all in advance.

I sure hope it's Morgan. I understand that Jason is probably higher up on Elisa's list, but a. I don't like the character, and b. if he's not still under arrest for bombing a police station, then New York went brain-dead overnight. I'm really, really hoping that Greg depicts the NYC law enforcement as having some brains and being able to notice things like giant airships and blown up cathedrals, and that these characters don't just hop out of jail overnight and go back on the street as if nothing happened. I trust Greg generally to tell a good story, though.

By the way, where is it even said that Jason and Robyn are under arrest? Is it in #2? because there's nothing about it in Hunter's Moon or #1.

Siren: You noticed that too, eh? Raph's always been my favorite, anyway, so I couldn't complain, either. I actually reviewed it:

Hmmm, I should have looked into this sooner. Turns out my local comic shop doesn't carry the comics either. Guess I'll have to order #3 on the internet too... My local shop is called "Comics and More". For the past few years they really should have been calling themselves "Trading Card Games and More" instead.

Has very little to do with Gargoyles but I saw TMNT today. Great movie! It focuses mostly on Leo and Raph. Splinter's overall look and voice just didn't match up, so it took getting use to. If Gargoyles had the biggest chance to make it to big screens, I think a full CGI movie may be it. It would be cheaper then live action...Disney likes cheaper. But I couldn't help but keep thinking "This would be so cool if it was Gargoyles", lol

Who said Morgan and Peter Maza are friends?

Ed> Thats interesting. Why do you want it to be Morgan? Why do you expect it to be Jason?

Chameleongirl> Peter Maza still is on the force. We know he was once Maria Chavez's boss.

Thanks for the info Ed.

Only ten years older? That's nothing.

How old is Morgan ?
Greg responds...

By the end of 1996, Morgan was 37. So if he's alive today, he's @43.
Response recorded on March 28, 2002

Elisa is 27 at the same time, so Morgan is 10 years her senior. Not that much at their ages.

I'd like the DD to be Morgan. I expect it to be Jason.

Ed

Officer Morgan always struck me as an older man (not oldold, just older than Elisa). He was also friends with her Dad while he was still on the force.
He just doesn't give off the 'date' vibe.

Hmmm . . . for me its just hard to see Elisa having a date at all with Morgan, only becuase from how I remember the show, he just felt like a really good, loyal co-worker -- almost like a brother to her.

But that's how I feel. in the end, I know Greg will make it awesome!

Greg B.> Well, I always throught he looked at least 5-10 years older. I could be wrong, though. I've never read any fanfic that suggests this. I was just going by physical appearence.

Morgan always struck me as being 40-45.

And maybe you're right about the age thing.

KingCobra> Since when is Morgan much older than Elisa? Find me an example from either the show, or from Ask Greg. Don't cite fanfic.

And even that aside, I don't think an age difference is any reason not to date someone, unless they're a minor.

I can see Elisa double dating with Morgan, b/c she has more contact with him than with Jason, but I don't really see her taking it too seriously. It could possibly be a means (however subconsciously) of making Goliath jealous.

Plus the fact that he's much older then her.

I tend to agree with you Greg. I've always leaned towards Jason over Morgan myself, but I think Morgan is more likely for the reasons you stated.

Of course, it has been awhile since Greg W has talked about the ole Double Date story and maybe he came up with another angle on it. Afterall, the jason or Morgan thing was always just canon-in-training.

Didn't Greg say there would be a new character showing up? Of course, I think he said it would be a female... I think...

Okay, with less than 48 hours till the next issue comes out, and since it's most likely the Double Date, who do you think Greg finally chose as Elisa's date? Jason Canmore or Officer Morgan?

While I am definitely hoping for Jason because I like him more than Morgan, I think I'm leaning towards Morgan simply because #1, he has less baggage than Jason for a story that already sounds really crowded. #2, Jason was just shot a few days ago, and is probably still in the hospital... and still under arrest.

Only a day old, and already this week seems... dead.

I may have induced another fan into the fandom. He seemed interested in the Gathering, and I gave him a couple of Gargoyles site URLs, including this one. He even drew a artistically gifted-but imperfect rendition of Goliath (He hadn't actually seen the show in years.) on a napkin, which I plan to keep.

I remember seeing a screenshot of Gargoyle Girls years ago. It has two girls with pointy ears, fangs, and cheezy wings and tails. I never bothered to look for that one. It looked like something the government would use to torture prisoners.

Here's another scene that should never appear in "Gargoyles".

Xanatos, Fox, and Owen realize that they're going to have to supervise Alex's play dates more closely after they discover the way that he plays "Duck Duck Goose" with other children, as in:

ALEX: Duck

SOUND EFFECT: Poof!

CHILD #1: Quack, quack!

ALEX: Duck!

SOUND EFFECT: Poof!

CHILD #2: Quack, quack!

ALEX: Goose!

SOUND EFFECT: Poof!

CHILD #3: Honk, honk!

Thought I'd get your opinions on this again since I got no responses last time...
a couple weeks ago I saw "Hellboy: Blood and Iron" on Toonami. The ignorant business man looked like a clone of Xanatos, except he talked in a kind of southern accent and was pretty ignorant of the danger he was in. Did anyone else notice this similarity?
