X_x First Knight was a horrible movie, though, and from what little I know, fairly well mangled much of the original story.

Check out "Excalibur." I think that one stays a little more true to the legend (as much as a single movie can), and had some really spectacular costumes. And it has Patrick Stewert. ^_^

I like King Arthur in "The Sword in the Stone" and "First Knight". I do not recommend "Kid in King Arthur's Court" and if you feel like being bored out of your mind watch "Merlin".

Vaevictis: I've got a bunch of suggestions for you.

http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/mainmenu.htm is an excellent rescource for anybody, beginner to Know-it-All. It's got basic background info on most of the big players, magical do-dads, and places, plus links to/info on related medieval/modern texts where they appear.

Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon is a very good, very long, very comprehensive novel adaptation of lots of the elements of the Arthur myth told from the perspective of the women involved (Igraine, Morgan le Fay, Vivian, Gwenevere, etc.). Like most Arthur stuff, prior knowledge isn't a must.

Stephen R. Lawhead also has a pretty good Arthur series out (titles like Merlin, Arthur, etc.).

Unfortunately, the only place to get all the story that's "missing" from Once and Future King is from Malory's Complete Works (Morte d'Arthur). But even that's "just" Malory's version of all of the legends he'd heard/read/found. And it's long. And in Middle English. And boring. (For me, anyway.)

I hope that helps!

Ashana

VAEVICTIS - You might consider Malory himself, though he can be a little difficult if you're not familiar with 15th century prose style.

Geoffrey Ashe has written several good books about King Arthur (and more recently, one on Merlin, which I checked out of the library recently); they focus more on the issue of whether there was a real King Arthur or not than on the familiar medieval legend, but give some good discussion of the legend as well. (He gives a summary of Malory in a book for younger readers, "King Arthur in Fact and Legend".)

There's also a retelling of both Malory and other medieval Arthurian writers for younger readers by Roger Lancelyn Green entitled "King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table". This one I would particularly recommend for "Gargoyles" fans since it's one of Greg Weisman's favorites, and a couple of his ideas for the Arthurian elements of the Gargoyles Universe (such as Blanchefleur) come from its pages.

Greg didn't mention this at "Ask Greg", but today in the Gargoyles Universe, on June 17, 1239, Edward I of England was born. One of his most important activities would include (during his attempts to conquer Scotland) capturing the Stone of Destiny from the Scots and taking it to Westminster Abbey, where it was kept for the next 700 years, and which was how King Arthur discovered it there during his visit to London.

I'm so tempted to shout "GOD IS DEAD" and see what that unleashes. ( ;

Something I have been wondering, though: has Greg ever talked much on what business Lexington goes into? If I had to guess, I'd say it involves software or robotics.

Arg, I'm officially *annoyed*. I got into reading about King Arthur because of Gargoyles, but the only book about it in our house is Once and Future King, and I'm discovering that this is NOT the book to start with for people unfamiliar with the legend. The author assumes that the reader (me) has already read at least Morte d'Arthur. He seems to omit important details, skip chunks of narrative, and generally assume that I know or understand things that I don't. And at key points of the plot he says things like: "Malory already said what happens next, and I don't want to repeat him, so I'll skip this part." and then skips a piece of the story! :(

I really, really need to go to the library and find a different book. Can anybody recommend something intended for those who aren't already King Arthur experts?

Ashana

Asatira-- Given that Odin is reapparing in the world, I strongly suspect that the Valkyries may very well still be around, if not currently active. My knowledge about them is a bit limited, but here's the basics: their task was to gather the warriors who had died valliantly in battle and take them to Valhalla (Odin's longhouse and feasting hall) as Einherjar--in the afterlife they would fight all day, being revived if they were slain, and then drink and feast all night until they were called to fight at Ragnarok. In Valhalla, the Valkyries served double-duty by serving food and drink to the Einherjar. I'll have to look up my sources, but there's popular imagery of the Valkyries riding on winged horses. However, there's some indication that any refferences to the Valkyries riding steeds actually meant they rode on huge wolves. (I really am wondering where I read that, now. Time to go book-diving!) Not sure if Brunhilde is a "real" Valkyrie from the myths and sagas, but I know Hrist is one that's metioned by name (I looked up the names of the Valkyries when I was a QA tester on Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth--Hrist was the only "historical" Valkyrie).

I was neither drunk nor hungover THIS weekend. Next weekend will be a different story since my best friend BJ will be tying the knot. Poor bastard. Not really, Jess is a really great girl and she's real easy to get along with. It's going to be a blast next Saturday.

Sorry, I don't know much about Valkyries except that some are hard to kill in Castlevania games if you're at a low level.

Looks like things are calming down. I was so tempted to call on the drama llama a few times.

Anywho, for a quick little discussion before the board clears, I was wondering about Valkyries. I was specifically thinking of Wagner's "Ring" saga, but namely of Brunhilda. I'm going to check the archives and do some looking around the net, but I was wondering what others think. They are part of Norse mythology. Do you think they may still be active or exist in the Garg universe? Brunhilda was real?

Tony> "I don't want to see two male gargoyles kissing."

Tony, like I said already, we're NOT GOING TO SEE IT. Lex's relationship is, unfortunately, not AT ALL going to be explicit. Which means there will most likely be NO mate-style kind of affection between Lex and his mate (whoever he is) that we will see. At all. I believe this to be the case b/c Disney would never allow that.

That's all I have to say on this, and it's getting old. Can we please get off the subject?

(Q1)is that something that you think shouldn't appear in media (on television, in movies, etc), just as much and in the same contexts as heterosexual couples? (Q2)Is there any reason why homosexual displays of affection (kissing, hugging, holding hands, etc) should be purposely hidden from view?

(A1)If I had control of ALL media, I would not show it because I don't like it. I also don't like looking when doctors operate on people and they are all cut open. I know it needs to happen to save people's lives, but it doesn't mean I want to see it. I also don't like watching people die on the beach during D-day so I can watch a documentary or "Saving Private Ryan" while I grimace or my stomach turns, or I can avert my eyes.

Since I do NOT have control as I said in my FIRST post, that we are along for Weisman's ride, then again, I don't want to see two male gargoyles kissing. I don't want to have to avert my eyes when reading a comic about characters I love.

(A2) No. I just don't view that kind of media and I'm not looking forward to homosexual displays of affection in something I love, i.e. Gargoyles media.

Therefore, since I don't agree with Lex's life choice, aka lifestyle choice, aka journey, then I'm not looking forward to homosexual displays of affection in something I want to look at and read - the Gargoyles comics. Like I said in my first post, I'm not getting off the ride that Weisman is taking us on, nor does it mean I will or have to enjoy it.

"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." - R.E. Howard

Okay. So I'm curious as to the reasoning behind this. Just curious, and trying to understand where you're coming from, and possibly the whys.

"(1)Who's to say he won't be the exact same Lex we're already acquainted with, just plus one "friend" we see on-camera now and then? (2)Will it really disturb you that much if you see him holding hands with or hugging his mate? (3)Out of curiosity, did Goliath and Elisa's kiss make you uncomfortable, or seem too intimate for public viewing?

(1)I am saying IF he isn't the same Lex then I don't support it. (2)Disturb me? No. Make me uncomfortable, yes. (3)No, it made me smile. Plus, it was a female and male kissing."

So if it's a heterosexual couple (who may or may not be having sexual relations), that's fine? But if it's a gay or lesbian couple kissing or hugging on the screen... I'm not saying whether or not you should feel uncomfortable or not because I think anyone has the fundamental right to feel uncomfortable about something, but my question now is--regardless of whether or not it makes you, personally, feel uncomfortable--is that something that you think shouldn't appear in media (on television, in movies, etc), just as much and in the same contexts as heterosexual couples? Is there any reason why homosexual displays of affection (kissing, hugging, holding hands, etc) should be purposely hidden from view? Other than the current state of, in my opinion, misguided hostility towards homosexual couples, that is.

We can like or not what other people think, but we cannot judge anyone. You dont like it, fine, keep it to yourself, ignore it, whatever, but attaking others opinions, doesnt matter how wrong or crude them may seemed, its just as bad.
I particulary dont like seeing anyone kissing soundly in the middle of the street. Ashana: It's an interesting question. I guess it depends what Disney allows, though if it's treated in a similar manner to the Broadway/Angela subplot which seems to have evolved organically in the background without ever being a vast, I can't see anybody could have much of a problem.

Certainly, I think any attempts to reign it back because it's a kids' series (any more than you'd reign back a heterosexual relationship) would be disappointing and retrograde -- and quite unnecessary.

In the UK, 'Doctor Who' has a recurring character who is clearly bisexual. Omnisexual even -- a sort of swashbuckling Don Juan of the 51st century, a time where life is so diverse that "categories" don't carry weight any more. At one point, he kisses both the male and female leads goodbye when it looks like they're going to their deaths -- not in a sexual way, just in an entirely equal way. 'Doctor Who' is the BBC's flagship show, goes out early evening and is huge with even kids as young as 5. It definitely wouldn't be allowed to get away with, for example, some of the explicit violence and blood 'Gargoyles' has glimpsed on occasion. Yet the character, Captain Jack, is vastly popular with kids, as is the actor who plays him. Because the character is so fun and loveable, nobody seems to have batted an eyelid at his sexuality.

I imagine Lex's relationship will probably be for life, in the gargoyle way, but I see no reason why 'Gargoyles' shouldn't pull off the same with a character who's already popular.

Why are we discussing these AGAIN??!!
I will say only one thing: Scientifics have a theory that has been proved aready, guys. There are two types of homosexuality.
One of them is a mental sickness caused by a traumatic experience with the oposit sex. There is a lot of cases in wich a person becomes guys after been abused in childhood or womans who becames lesvians after a rape. In these case, it is considered a mental sicknes and can be "cure" with pshychiatrist help.
THEN there is another case, wich is caused by hormones. These case of homosexuality is NOT considere a SICKNESS. Its just the way some people are born.
Sexual atraction is a primal instinct. It cant be choose as a child cannot choose not to fear dark. Its just something we have incorporated withing us.
Some people have different opinions, and they have the right to express them, however, without been attacked. That would made us all bigots.
Im guy myself, i havent choose it, its just the way i am. I dont like man, but i do like woman, as you Tony like woman and not men.

Well you ALL misunderstood me, so sue me. I guess I better try harder to be more clear next time. But to assume such an asinine notion of sexual orientation being a choice is just ludicrous to begin with so don't hate me for your false assumptions and misunderstanding before ASKING me to be more clear.

I'm not backpedalling. It may appear so, again, because of the misunderstanding of my first statement in my first post. Before I even could speak you were all the judge and jury and threw the book at me. For shame!

homophobe (noun) - a person who hates or fears homosexual people

I don't hate or fear homosexuals. I have worked and I talk to people who are homosexuals and I do not hate or fear those people.

Anyway, there is no case to help, just voicing my opinion. Obviously voicing an unpopular opinion gets your chastised and cursed at. I wonder how many other Gargoyle fans got scared away from the unwelcome behavior when an unpopular opinion had been voice. For shame again!

"...who cares whether or not TiniTinyTony "approves?""
Exactly my point, again, made in my first post when I said, "But my opinion doesn't matter..." so nor does my approval.

(a)So you think it's OK to be gay, as long as they promise never to kiss or hug the person they love? (b)It's OK as long as they agree to be lonely, single, and celibate their whole lives? (c)I guess hugging our parents of the same gender is obscene too, right?

(a)No, I just don't want to see it. (b)No. I want gay men to have gay sex I just (i) don't want to hear about, (ii) don't want to see it, (iii) don't want to be a part of it. (c)Totally incorrect. Family members hugging is very beautiful and natural. But you don't have sexual relations with your parents. Gay men have sexual relations.

Thank you for your attention. I'll be here all night.

"This gives me an idea! Propaganda! Used correctly it could be as deadly as any weapon in my arsenal..."

Tony-- I think what sparked this is that your first post implied that you think Lexington's orientation is a choice--by saying you "don't approve of Lexington's future life choice." Emphasis on "LIFE" not "lifeSTYLE." The first time I read that, I sure as the tides thought you meant that being gay is a choice, and you disapproved of Lex's "choice" to be gay. Now you're saying it's his future "lifetsyle" you disapprove of? You sound like you're backpedaling mighty hard. And worrying over how he'll express himself in the future because it MIGHT offend you? That DOES sound mighty homophobic, sir.

Even if you MEANT "lifeSTYLE," that still doesn't help your case. We don't even KNOW what Lexington will be like when he's older, and yet you're already disapproving of whatever choices he makes? That seems totally assinine, if not homophobic. Who's to say he won't be the exact same Lex we're already aquainted with, just plus one "friend" we see on-camera now and then? Will it really disturb you that much if you see him holding hands with or hugging his mate? Out of curiosity, did Goliath and Elisa's kiss make you uncomfortable, or seem too intimate for public viewing? (Pardon my sarcasm, there.)

Being gay doesn't automatically turn you into a flaming queen. It's not some kind of contractual behavior we have to agree to uphold and maintain when we submit proof of queerness and apply for rainbow bumper stickers. ;P And even people ARE fabulously flaming and express themselves that way (as long as it doesn't get violent or interfere with how they're required to behave and treat customers while on the job), who cares whether or not TiniTinyTony "approves?"

Gotta love TiniTinyTony's attitude. It's okay to be homosexual, just not act on it. So in other words, be celibate. Niiice. Would love to see any heterosexual person live a life of celibacy that isn't a priest(in fact I know a few priests that couldn't live up to that either). It is NOT a choice or a lifestyle. You are who you are. Pretty sad when people can't live and let live. Even sadder that others have to hide in fear of revealing who they are because of what others might think or how they might react.

It's ok, Asatira. You don't have to agree with my opinion or POV. But I guess I'm coming off as a bigot or something which I am not.

My former co-worker Brian that used to work at Target with me is gay. Yet, he behaves like he is straight. He doesn't talk like the guys on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". He's a great person and very intelligent. He gets angry very easily, but that's just his personality, not because of his sexual orientation.

So the way Brian chooses to live his life - I approve of and it doesn't bother me.
If he came into work talking about how he made love to his partner last night - that would bother me.

And conversely, he wouldn't want to hear about my sexual relations with a woman, right?

I really don't know how else to explain it.

Certainty? In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes. - Benjamin Franklin

"Nobody chooses to be what they are. It's just part of who they are."

Yes and no. I can choose to dress up like a fireman, but does that mean I put out fires? No, because I'm not a fireman. But if other people see me dressed up like a fireman, they are going to assume that I'm a fireman. Yeah.

It's my choice to live my life the way I am, the way I was born, but ultimately it's society who says, "That guy is straight" or "That guy is gay" or "That guy is a fireman." Do I agree with that? No, but what choice do I have? It's the labels that society puts on us. So Lex can be whatever he wants to be, but he was given or will be given the label "homosexual" later on in life.

So,

1) I would appreciate not being attacked for my opinions. I've very open minded and would like to discuss your opinions as well as my own.
2) I believe that straight or gay is not a choice, but your lifestyle is a choice. If you don't understand that, then we're not on the same page.

"Let this mark the beginning of a Golden Age! Between all our clans, both Human and Gargoyle!" -Macbeth

I'm not a scientist either, but I know that when my pituitary gland secretes hormones the end result is that I am attracted to women.

I believe that living a straight or gay LIFESTYLE is a choice. Being a straight man I know that I enjoy the company of women in intimate situations. Also as a straight man I find it disturbing and disgusting seeing two men embrace. So seeing two male gargoyles embrace would probably be quite as disturbing.

I'm not homophobic. I've worked in retail for a few years and I've worked with gay people and they are just normal people and cool to talk to and be friends with. But as long as I don't have to see them being sexual, then that's fine with me. I'm sure they don't want to see me being intimate either. So as long as Lexington's relationship is implicit, then I should be fine with it. Kind of like Batman and Robin, you know something was weird, but you just didn't talk about it.

In other words, it's Lexington's choice to prance around like a ballerina and talk about shoes and clothes, or he can continue being the Lex we know and love, and he just hangs out with Eric, his lover, a lot and that is that.

TiniTinyTony
Certainty? In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes. - Benjamin Franklin

TTTony> Did you choose to be straight? Just wondering. At once point did you decide to sit down and say, "I guess I'll be straight." It's funny cuz scientists are not entirely clear on what makes a person gay, but at the same time, they havn't figured out what makes a person straight either.

So you won't be seeing anything like that. He'd be introduced as Lex's 'friend' and we'd be in a position to draw our own conclusions.

Hmmm, I didn't realize Lexington goes into business only three years after the clan moves back into the castle. I always thought it was later. And as far as revealing his lifestyle in the comic is concerned, people need to learn to relax and start recognizing the real definition of obscene.

Warcrafter - Congrats!

Greg - Wonderful. Priceless. Now I have a picture of Demona and Thailog on their private boat, lounging on deck chairs, and drinking margaritas under the light of the silvery moon. ...and great, now that I've written that, "under the light of the silvery moon" is on the radio in the image.

KingCobra, etc. - Since Lex has plenty of time to learn about his orientation and find his mate, given his young age and Greg Weisman's tendency to draw story arcs out...anyone care to speculate how that particular storyline might get handled in all that time? Since I heard about Lexington's sexuality, I've wondered about how it would get to develop onscreen/page, given the...enforced heterosexual norm of "children"'s media. I'd put the question on Ask Greg, but that would just be silly: "Hi, Mr. Professional Writer, now that you've told us about this unpublished plotline, would you please describe in detail how it will look when it's published? And while you're at it, could you ask JKR if Harry dies in the seventh book?" In any case, I do hope we get to see it eventually. I mean, er, Lexington's love story, not Harry's death.

Ahem. That was much longer than I intended. I shouldn't let me write after 11pm, I get long-winded.

2198's Nick has an ancestor that's born around early 21st century who is adopted. That's the answer Greg gave me in Montreal. He said it probably didn't mean what I thought it mean. My thinking was, of course, it's Goliath and Elisa's adopted kid. And I'm sure that Greg knew that's what I was thinking.

The 2198 contest (http://s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?rid=149) indicates 2198 Nick is blood related to the Maza family and (I assume) Nick/Natsilane's family from Heritage (although this is not 100% obvious and Greg didn't want to make it obvious (http://s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=8088)). If this is the case, all we know is there's a kid of blood relation to 1996 Nick's family or the Mazas that's going to be adopted. The hows and whys of this are many and speculation is near futile without any further information.

I'm having problems separating the two issues: how does the Maza name and bloodline continue through to 2198 Nick and who is the adopted ancestor. I want to put them together and they are probably two completely separate issues.

Oh man, Greg is an evil man--more questions and no answers! Heh
Lex starts a business...hmmm. I wonder if the other gargoyles will take part in it? Maybe the gargs will be able to make their own money.

Gotta be a pretty big crisis for the clans to come together--and right before September 11th...not a a good year.

I hope to see Morgan have a *complex* relationship with the gargoyles, not strictly pro or anti. Sees their protective nature and has a good working relationship with them, but a personal grudge against Goliath over Elisa, maybe, or wants to accpet them, but sees too many "problems" that they cause for law and order, etc. In any case, I'm excited to see the dynamic of the Gargoyles Task Force play out.

Pondering clues left by Greg.

Lex's business? Gotta be something related to computers, probably some kind of online business that affords him the opportunity to work without having to meet with people in person.

A crisis that brings 4 clans together? Maybe a regional thing? Map out the locations of the clans we know about and see if maybe 4 (and only 4) share a specific region of the world. Earthquake, volcano, or tsunami maybe? Probably more than likely that the Manhattan clan run into serious trouble and call upon those clans they've already met (Ishimura, London, Guatemala, and themselves). Avalon?

Lex's journey? Interesting that he's _continuing_ the journey. Why'd he stop? When did he first start? My gut says this is more of a personal/spiritual thing than anything else.

Anyone else go and look up Hardicanute? The amount of history and mythology that Gargoyles touches upon is massive. (Glad I'm not responsible for keeping track of it all.)

While searching through AG found this bit (http://s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=482) where Greg mentions if he were writing Gargoyles stories again in '99 they'd probably be different than in 2007. (I'm guessing that entry was written in early 1997). Kind if interesting given where we are now.

MATT - Yes, I was surprised that Greg Weisman mentioned all those events in the future of the Gargoyles Universe (future from the perspective of where things presently stand in the comic). Lexington going into business, Obsidiana visiting the U.S., four clans coming together because of a crisis (which takes place in 2001, but since it's dated June rather than September, clearly isn't *that* crisis), etc.

Antiyonder> I don't think it makes much difference at this point. When the DVD first came out, we would suggest Amazon, as sales there would move the DVD immediately up their sales charts and get it more attention. The one benefit of online retailers is that they're more likely to have the DVD, whereas the brick and mortars are more of a crapshoot.

I'm going to go with a conjecture and say Emma of Normany and Princess Elena are at least half-sisters, both sharing a common father.

According to http://www.robertsewell.ca/normandy.html , Richard married second to Gunnor of Crêpon. It is quite probable that Richard and Gunnor had some of their children prior to Richard's marriage to Emma of Paris (960 - 962). Richard and Gunnor married after Emma's death, thereby legitimizing all the children.

There's the theory. Therefore, Princess Elena's age at the time of Vows is a potential indicator of who her mother is, specifically is she's older than 15.

Todd, please help!>> I'm catching up on Ask Greg. (I glance at it at work, but can only really get in depth periodically at home.) Anyway, in Greg's brief history lesson on Hardicanute and Edward the Confessor, he mentions that Emma of Normandy is Princess Katharine's aunt. Knowing very little about any of these people, I did some research on wikipedia. I think I understand the real history now, but were does Katharine best fit in? Is there an obvious answer I'm not seeing, or are we limited to conjecture?

(Although I address this to Todd, our resident expert on Medieval British Royalty, any other suggestions or clarification would be appreciated.)

What amazed me about Garg Video guy this time is that he didn't know who Judge Roebling was. Geez..Like he's supposed to be a Garg fan right? He didn't know Roebling performed Xanatos and Fox's wedding?! That's why he knew Goliath. Then again, we covered that point in here recently. Sorry, was just catching up on the "AskGreg" stuff, and noticed he said something to the effect of:

"When a comic store owner says "I doubt I'll have any by the end of the day," I can't help but wonder, "Then why didn't you order more?"

At my local shop, which isn't a chain or franchise store, my man tends to get stone-walled by some distributors because he under-orders on "the big titles" they're pimping in favor of what people actually buy. For example, when the world went crazy for Civil War and 52, he was ordering back-issues of "Invincible" and trying to keep "Runaways" stocked because that's what we were buying.

For some reason whoever he's dealing with won't let him order larger quantities of the Garg issues on their first printing, or what have you.

Just as a sort of side-note, since the AskGreg stuff is closed for the moment: I totally dig the almost "Grotesque" look for Goliath, but some of the perspective needs a bit of work and the colors still get muddy. I've decided because of issue #4 that an official dream of mine (because I'm a Comics nerd) would be to get Joe Madureira to do a Goliath pin-up. I'm not that big of a Joe Mad fan, but the exaggeration he hit the Turtles with would look absolutely amazing on the Gargs, in my opinion.

Alas, it's only a pipe-dream.

Morgan: I don't believe he would be join the quarrymen-he seems to much of a nice guy for that. Though now he could cause problems (if he finds out about the gargs) since he works closely with Elisa and he knows far more than she probably wants him to. I tend to think he would come to accept them and maybe E/G. Anyway, I can't see how it could be that big a surprise that Elisa is friendly with the gargoyles. I mean, how many times has he seen her at the site of a crime where crooks were tied with steel poles? He has to realize they're on their side at least.

Adam: That's a good point, I had thought about that once after first seeing the episode a long time ago. When you think about it, Goliath sticks out from any normal statuary that day. He's alone just standing on an apartment balcony, and facing inwards-not a normal pose for a garoyle statue. I wonder if Castaway gave the order to search out and destroy not every gargoyle statue, but ones that kind of stick out or seem out of place.

Third race ruling> hmmm. I'm sort of siding with VA in that our mythologies give a certain amount of credence to the third race, if not out right ruling, then at least being very influential in the early lives of human civilization. I think a number of societies probably reached a point where the Third race eventually decided or were forced to take a more discrete role, but I don't think they completely lost power. From what I recall of the members we've seen, only a few seem all that intent on ruling or dominating, and even those tend to be regional goals. So while they could, they probably wouldn't. Especially if you consider the current level of iron in use amongst humans.
Asatira

Arguably, back when the gods ruled over humanity openly and were worshiped, they were dominant. After all, they got to play with human lives like toys (if you believe the stories in Greek Mythology, anyway). It seems that only in the historical times (maybe starting 1000 BC or something) have humans had the world to themselves, with the non-intervention law and the discovery of iron.
Vaevictis Asmadi

Third race dominating the planet? Maybe after 2198 after the aftermath of the Space Spawn. Other than that, I just hope Weisman gets to Pendragon before SLG calls it quits.
Tony

So, I was thinking about the sentient races of Earth. First we had the so-called Lost Race who lived and seem to have dominated the Earth for a time. Next to evolve were the Gargoyles, which for a time could be found throughout the world. Now we are in a time when the next oldest race, Humans, rule the Earth.

I wonder if Greg plans for a time in the future when the Third Race will dominate the planet...

Just a thought.

:| I liked that Anaconda movie... But not the first one.

Anyhow. Yeah. I see neither Ms. Yale nor officer Morgan joining the Quarrymen. But I think it would be an interesting twist for a friend of Elisa's to have a grufge against the gargoyles. And of course, Margot provides us with a nice legal enemy for the Gargoyles, not a street gang member. I don't know. We'll just have to see where the series goes. :)

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but while out to see 'Ocean's 13' with the family this weekend, I saw a trailer for 'I am Legend', starring Will Smith. Gantros
"As with all things, darkness falls for thee"

Sorry for to posts so close, but I'm a bit surprised no one looked up some of the other odd events on the TDiGUH timeline.

"As every mysterious place, there is some legends.
The most famous is this story of the key keeper of the val de grace, Philibert Aspairt, who wanted to discover the treasure of Chartreux's monks. He decided to enter the former quarries on day of 1793. Nobody heard of him before 11 years. In 1804 the quarries general inspection found a dead man in it. The keys he was wearing identified him... Philibert Aspairt was burried in the same place he was found, and its grave is in the picture."

Click my name for the picture. There seems to be a lot of legend surrounding what Aspairt was actually doing in the catacombs, some of it involving political intrigue. Supposedly, no one with the surname "Aspairt" is around anymore to shed light on the story, so it remains a mystery. At least as much of a mystery is how it rleateg to the Gargiverse.

Demonskrye - [<---Philibert Aspairt's grave]

I thought there was a specific mention somewhere to the Quarrymen destroying statues all over town. Or maybe it was just a mention of vandalized statues, but not who destroyed them.
Vaevictis Asmadi

DEMONSKRYE - Greg probably mentioned St. Columba because of the Loch Ness Monster element. His dates for Arthur's reign in the Gargoyles Universe are 500 to 542, a little too early for St. Columba, so I doubt that the Arthur whom Columba knew could be anything other than a namesake.
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

I have to go with Vaevictus on this one, even though I'm sure Todd probably didn't mean for that to sound the way it did. I also think that Morgan seems too much of a straight cop to wind up with the Quarrymen.

For that matter, I can't imagine Margot being a big fan of the Quarrymen either. Despite her dislike of gargoyles, she still works for the DA. So I don't think she's all that crazy about a group of people in masks taking the law into their own hands.

On a different note, I had some friends over for dinner last night, and afterwards we wound up taking my Gargoyles DVD off the rack. Turns out one friend hasn't seen it in about ten years, and the other actually hasn't seen it, period. As we hang out over the summer, we're probably gonna be watching the whole series. Should be interesting.

Sorry if someone already mentioned this, but I was just getting caught up on Ask Greg and noticed that the "This Day in Gargoyles' Universe History" (which should really have an acronym like "TDGUH" for comment room use) and noticed that two days ago was the anniversary of St. Columba's death. Todd probably knew this already, but I had to check Wikipedia to learn that the "Vitae Clomuba" contains the earliest recording of the name "Arthur" in a British document (though the reference is apparently to a Socttish prince, not King Arthur as we know him). Columba is also credited with taking on the Loch Ness monster. Isn't ealy Christianity fun?

Which, if either, of these events he is important for in the gargiverse remains to be seen.

Demonskrye

VAEVICTIS - Yes, you're right. Though, at least in the comic, Castaway's wary enough to make certain that they don't go armed when they're out on Halloween. (He probably also takes suitable precautions to make certain that they don't go about mistaking architectural gargoyles for gargoyles in stone sleep and smashing them - the Quarrymen obviously don't need getting hit with lawsuits over property damage.)
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

What do you mean, they *are* a vigilante movement.

I don't know if Morgan will instantly become a clan ally. I mean, from his point of view, gargoyles were an urban legend, that turned out to be real, possibly dangerous monsters. On top of that, the woman he likes was in a relationship with one of those inhuman creatures for two years. I don't think he'll join the Quarrymen or anything, but I can't picture him being an ally right away.

So...who else thinks Morgan is going to find out why those gargoyle "costumes" look so real? In the teaser for #5, it implies that someone will find out the gargoyles' secret. So I'm guessing Morgan will. It would be nice for the clan to have another human friend. But let's hope he's on their side--since if he finds out about Goliath, he'll know that Elisa is more than "just friends" with a gargoyle. I tend to think Morgan would keep their secret safe, but then again, we don't know him that well enough to know exactly what he would do, not to mention he will be spurned by Elisa for a gargoyle.

A brief GargWiki announcement.

We've recently had a terrible spamming problem. Similar to the one at Ask Greg. Because of this, new users must be given sysop priviledges in order to create or edit entries. This is just a precaution to keep the trolls and spammers out. Everyone who signs up (who's not a troll of spammer) will be given sysop priviledges.

Right now, all non-spam users are in the process of being given sysop priviledges. If you have a username and can't edit... rest assured, within the next few days, you will be able to.

With that out of the way, who saw the final episode of "The Sopranos"? I thought it was brilliant and satisfying.
