Stephen > Why on earth would you pay $15 for Issue 1 when SLG and Amazon.com are both still selling it for the cover price of $3.50?

My deepest condolences, Battle Beast.

Stephen, the first issue is available at Amazon and SLG for $3.50 plus shipping. I wouldn't pay $15 for it.

TODD -- I'll have to say that the week of the 18th might be a bit of a rough point. That's the week leading up to the release of the final Harry Potter book. That could overshadow anything coming up on the media calendar, if SLG decided to either announce or release the next comic then.

Speaking of which, I found a local comic shop that has the comics avalible for purchase. While the first issue is nearly 15 dollars a pop, I'm hoping to get my copies as soon as I'm through my current financial woes... dealing with a rent increase and loss of work hours isn't fun.

On another literary note, just for those that are interested, my first published novel is finished. "Sin-City Walker: Two of A Kind" has been in the works for the past year, and is now avalaible for purchase through my storefront on Lulu.com. It's been a real labor of love and I hope any who are interested will give it a try and spread the word. The link at my name will take you to my storefront.

Side Note -- Greg especially should take notice. ^_^

In any case, I hope everyone had a good holiday week because of the 4th. Be safe and well!

Greg, thanks for posting that.

I had fun at Convergence this year, and I even met a gargoyle -- at the absolute last event of the convention, a panel about the fair folk, there was a guy in a great gargoyle costume. He looked just like Brooklyn except he was dark olive green, and didn't have the three fingers on each wing. But his wings and mouth opened and closed, he had a wig attached to the paper mache head, it was really cool. He even had three-fingered gloves and three-toed feet, and spiked elbows. And he told me he was at the Gargoyles panel last year, so he must already know about the DVDs and stuff.

I also met Santa Claus.

HoE, the Illuminati knows his intention to become President of the USA, and they are/were aiding him. But John Smith is the only one who knows that Stillson's future actions will lead to the end of the world. But now that the Illuminati influence is gone, he may not become President and the world won't end...for now!

It's a great show. They're in their sixth season right now. The first three seasons are really good, four and five were ok. Six is great so far.

APPLAUSE FIGS> Yes, I do have them... but I havebn't been able to get to the post office, and I probably won't untill tuesday (A death in family is taking my time. Sorry guys.)

That is all I will say.

Thanks for the information, Bishansky. I'm certainly looking forward to the upcoming comics, and am all the more curious now about the #7-9 story.

The 18th and 25th of July (the latter two Wednesdays of the month) will both be good days for #5 to come out, from my perspective. I won't be disappointed if it doesn't come out on the 11th; I'm planning on seeing the new Harry Potter movie when it comes out that day, and it might be a little too much to get the latest issue that day as well.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Tony: I've never watched The Dead Zone. Is the Society on that show aware of Stillson's intentions?

As far as the Gargoyles universe is concerned, I doubt that Duval and the rest of the Illuminati want to see World War III. We don't know much about them, but somehow, I think the end of the world would be counterproductive to them.

"How were we gonna take over the world with a white Michael Jackson, anyway?"

Thanks for that synopsis, Greg. It was a real good read.

HoE, out of curiosity, do you watch the tv show, The Dead Zone? Your post(s) made me think of it.

(Current season SPOILERS of The Dead Zone below)
In that show, the main character's nemesis, Greg Stillson, is influenced by the Illuminati and has reached the status of Vice President of the United States. It is foreseen by the psychic, and main character, John Smith, that Stillson will destroy the world. Then, just recently, the Illuminati representative who was Stillson's main contact to aid him in his rise to power, Malcolm Janus, dies. Now when Smith touches Stillson's hand, he no longer sees the end of the world.

"How were we gonna take over the world with a white Michael Jackson, anyway?"

HoE> The Illuminati is powerful, but I don't think they control so much as they manipulate and influence. I don't think they choose the President, though they may influence who gets to be in the position to run.

"Am I speaking Latin again? Silly me, sometimes it just slips."

<Greg chose not to have a fictional president, because - outside of the obvious fantasy elements - he likes to make the Gargoyles universe as close to reality as possible.> Now we just need to figure out why the Illuminati wanted Clinton to have two terms.

Greg also revealed this little tidbit to myself and a few others:

The Jogger is Billy and Susan's uncle. He is their dad's brother (which makes sense given they have the same voice actor).

Comic> "One issue of the comic is about equal to one act from a TV episode."

I figured.

Offf-topic> We got our flyers printed and left one for people to hopefully see at a Steak N' Shake last night. We'll most likely take them to the comic shop, and a couple of other places, soon.

KingCobra_582 - [KingCobra_582 at hotmail dot com]
'Ignore Me!' - Venture Bros.

It has to get approved twice. The script, and then the finished comic itself. Hopefully soon. At this point, I hope it's out in time for San Diego Comic Con.

Here is some more news, straight from JEB's con report, because he takes great notes.

- Regarding the DVD of Season 2, Part 2: No progress, but Greg does know who the new exec to talk to about it is. (Apparently they have a lot of turnover there.) Greg re-emphasized that the comparatively lower sales of Season 2 Part 1 vs. Season 1 hurt the chances of getting Part 2, and probably lost us Disney's attention. And he emphasized that we need to each find 1000 more fans and spread the word...

- Regarding the comic: Issue #5 concludes the current storyline. Issue #6 is a stand-alone story. Issues #7 through #9 will "blow your minds" - something strange, weird, cool and universe-opening. The first graphic novel, which will include issues #1-6, will be released this winter.

- Thailog designed Delilah to be a proper companion, not a mere sex slave - more than a minion, but less than an equal. Her diction has always been better than that of her fellow clones.

- Gargoyles and humans besides Goliath and Elisa have fallen in love, but it's extremely rare. It's so rare there isn't even a cultural taboo against it. Sometime between c. 3000 BC and 2199, there is only one other human-gargoyle relationship - and no, Greg isn't telling.

- One issue of the comic is about equal to one act from a TV episode. Greg admits he's become used to writing for television rather than comics, but he hopes to break that pattern with Bad Guys.

- Greg chose not to have a fictional president, because - outside of the obvious fantasy elements - he likes to make the Gargoyles universe as close to reality as possible.

- It's important that sales of the regular comic not lag due to the pending release of a collected edition. If the regular comic doesn't sell, there might not be collected editions to buy... Greg also hopes to have some bonus material in the trade paperback (including a foreword by Wendy Pini), and possibly also a trade paperback of Bad Guys.

- The TimeDancer miniseries will be a "fragment" from his 40-year trip.

- Judge Roebling's dialogue in the comic is indeed inspired by Foghorn Leghorn.

- Despite Atlantis: The Lost Empire not being part of the Gargoyles universe (due to various contradictions), the Praying Gargoyle still has an Atlantean crystal at its core. Greg would like to use the Team Atlantis characters in an adaptation of the story in comic form, but if he can't, he'll use analogues.

- Bad Guys began with three characters: Dingo, Matrix and Fang. To fill the role of a "hardcase" female character, they almost went with a new character, before settling on Robyn Canmore. Lastly, they figured a gargoyle would be good, so they added Yama.

- In terms of Illuminati ranking, Mace Malone was somewhere in the high 20s before he died. Xanatos has been an Illuminatus for a few years; Greg won't reveal how long Castaway was a member.

- The first six issues of Bad Guys take place in late 1996 to early 1997. They start in 1997, before flashing back to 1996.

- Matrix's potential power level would become an issue in a second series of Bad Guys. Greg actually conceived of this plotline before the first series.

- Yama wants to redeem himself, but the Bad Guys' bosses are still blackmailing him into service, which he resents.

- Eventually, the Bad Guys may meet Jackal and Hyena, but not in the first series.

- Vinnie will appear in Bad Guys.

- Although Greg would love to do more than one comic a month, he can't financially justify it.

- They briefly considered doing a "Gargoyles Classics" title that would adapt television stories into comic form, but ultimately rejected it.

- Disney owns everything created for the Gargoyles comic.

Manage to get a copy of #2 recently for my friend (Already picked up #1, 3 and 4). Since there will be a trade, what are you going to do with the individual comics you've bought? I might see if one of my other friends in the neighborhood would like them? Or my nephew and niece.
Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo,com]

Just got back from "Pirates 3." I was impressed. Considering everything that was going on in it, you could actually follow it. Of course, now my body's going to hate me when I have to be up in five hours, but it was worth it, I think.

I was ordering a sandwich from a cafe earlier, before the movie, and the clerk noticed my Demona T-Shirt. Naturally, I told him about the DVDs and the comic, and his reply was basically, "oh... that's nice." What can I say? I suck at influencing people, unless I have access to drugs, weapons, or both.

"Am I speaking Latin again? Silly me, sometimes it just slips."

BISHANSKY - Good point.

One other thing that I wondered about, though, was this. The current evidence that we have suggests that #7, 8, and 9 will be a single story told in three instalments, the same way that #3, 4, and 5 are. And Greg's mentioned that Vinnie's going to show up in #8, and we know that he's going to Japan, so presumably some of the upcoming story is going to be in Japan. So will there be room enough for Japan and Great Britain (not to mention Manhattan) in the same story? I'm not certain about that.

Still, we should find out in a few more months.

Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

TODD> Ah, but the Stone of Destiny was moved back to Scotland in November, 1996. Greg chose Bad Guys before Pendragon because of his timeline. Since in comics time, we're only a few weeks away from when the Stone was moved back to Scotland, it makes sense.

I think Pendragon is going to start in late 1997/early 1998 based on the timeline.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The 11th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
"Am I speaking Latin again? Silly me, sometimes it just slips."

The main difficulty that I have with the Stone of Destiny being involved in #7 is that I have the impression that it was going to be King Arthur and Griff's responsibility (Greg mentioned that "Pendragon", had it been made, would have had a Stone of Destiny story somewhere). Though it's not impossible that the clan would be involved at some point.

I don't think that the gargoyles would seriously consider abandoning Manhattan either; no self-respecting gargoyle is going to desert his or her protectorate. (And the obvious story-related difficulty of their doing that is that it would mean dropping a lot of the supporting cast, since they're New Yorkers. Even Elisa would have to be written out in that case, since she'd definitely stay in the city and in the NYPD.) Though I wonder if a couple of the younger gargoyles might find leaving to be a tempting possibility.

Well, I put up two Gathering fliers up at work, one in the cafeteria, and one around the office near the copier room. There aren't a lot of young people who work there, but there are a lot of old people -- old people who probably have kids they can spread the word to. It's a long shot, but it felt good hanging those fliers up.

I traveled to Williamsport today with my friend, Dan, to "Americas Most Wanted Collectibles" which not only has collectibles, but is also a huge comic book store. I gave the owner, Joe, one of the fliers and he said he would hang it on his door. That one felt real good. I hope to see it there next week.

I have to admit I didn't get the first few issues of the comic and wasn't planning on it since I hated the artwork so much but after hearing Greg at the con I've decided to go ahead and get them. Either way, I was planning on getting 5 especially after I heard about Karine drawing it.

Matt> Sounds interesting. I'm just glad they're able to continue the story finally, even though the wait is killing us. ;P

Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

So, I was reading the teaser for Issue #7: The Rock:

What's a gargoyle to do when Xanatos is on the job for the Illuminati; Coldsteel's in town; Thailog's breaking in new assistants, and Macbeth needs a favor? Well, what else can you do except... ROAD TRIP!!!! As Goliath and Elisa attempt to repair their relationship, the rest of the clan contemplates a change of scene. But how far should they go to save a slab of stone? And why is Fox buying new shoes? Find out in CLAN-BUILDING, Chapter 7: The Rock.

I think it is likely the reference to "The Rock" and "a slab of stone" has to do with the Stone of ZDestiny being moved back to Scotland. I think Macbeth's favor comes into this too. Who wants to bet the Clan is in fact considering relocating back to Scotland?
I also think Coldsteel is going to be involved with Thailog somehow.
As for what Xanatos is doing I have no idea, but I wonder if Fox is buying new shoes for Alex who is growin quickly, hahaha.

This wait for Issue 5 is rough... I mean, the other Issues the wait was hard cuz I wanted the new material so bad... this wait is hard because I already know what is going to happen, I just have to keep my mouth shut, ugh!

@Siren and CrzyDemona- Nikki just posted the results last night at the Gargoyles forum. Here's what she said:

"Hey guys!
Here's our list of winners for the Music Video Contest. Congrats to all! They were all wonderful.
Unfortunately, there weren't really enough votes and entries to deal with second and third places, I think. So we just have overall winners.
Action - "The Awakening" by Victoria
Comedy - "Gargoyles Femme Fatales" by Siren
Drama - "Demona's Stupid" by Booncy
Romance - "The Price of Vengeance" by Lily Allison
Best of Show - "Gargoyles Femme Fatales" by Siren

I think that's how it went. Pretty positive, but I'll double check myself in the morning.
I'm working on a final mailing list update and a G07 winner page that'll include this too. Prize ribbons and such are all being sorted, checked, and getting ready to mail off. ;) "

I thought most of these videos would walk away with something, it was just a matter of what. Though I am a little suprised my Price of Vengeance beat out my Lay Me to Sleep (though that's probably because I liked the one more than the other.. LMtS had better/more intense/complicated editing, but Vengeance had a cool storyline so.. *shrug*) Congratulations everyone!

Now I've got to make cool little banners to identify the winners in the Gargoyles Music Video Database (yay for pretending like I know how to make graphics.. at least Gargolyes has so manyu beautiful stand alone images/etc you do't need to be particularly skilled).

I didn't enter the raffle for that on purpose. The last time I played mini-golf was December 2006, and I remembered why the last time I played before that was four years prior. I have a better handle on anger than I did when I was sixteen, but mini-golf still infuriates me. The government has put something in the rims of those holes. My boyfriend and I just saw Transformers... It was definitly Michael Bay which means I was pretty bored a lot of the time and occasionally rolled my eyes. But on the other hand, it was clearly one of his better movies and had a couple fun parts. Very confusing at times, but the story was fun when he'd slowdown and let people talk, just wish there had been more story. The ending climax was a big plot hole. I dunno. I tend to do things on the downlow, rather subtle, but I do plan to do my part. I talked with the comic store owner I go to and he was happy to put up any advertisements for the comics in his store. I need to look around, but plan to put up flyers (if I can) in the Hastings nearby, and in the other bookstores that sell graphic novels (most of the year, I'm in a college town, so I may be able to get away with it, but not sure. The content for those tend to be more events). I'll gladly download and print out some flyers to put out for the Dragon*Con if they have a table available for that. That's all I have right now, just my little bit of help.

Just came back from watching Transformers. Ive only watched like 12 episodes of the tv series but pretty much new the plot. Anyway, even the movie was pretty original and barely had anything similar to the tv series, I really loved it. If a movie can be made for Transformers then it can definitely happen for Gargoyles. Lets just hope it wouldnt be directed by Michael Bay or Uwe Boll. :)

As Greg said at the Gathering, the show would reach nearly 1,000,000 people per week, and those people are still out there; we need to find them, sure, but throwing out a net into random waters and hoping for a catch here and there isn't going to cut it. If you really want to get the word out effectively, try local animation clubs, comic book stores, or other conventions, places where enthusiasts of shows in the same vein as Gargoyles -- if not Gargoyles itself -- are **likely** to be found.

One thing I could suggest in that aspect would be to bring up Gargoyles with fans of the following animated shows:

Max Steel
The Batman
W.I.T.C.H.
The Spectacular Spider-Man

As Greg has some good involvment with those shows. Heck, for any Spider-Man fan who might be looking forward to the upcoming cartoon, show them Gargoyles as an example of the producer's previous work.

I saw Transformers last night as well. I enjoyed the crap out of that movie. Yeah, it definitely wasn't original Transformers. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. It was really a very outside-looking-in take on Transformers - less emphasis on the character of the Autobots and Decepticons. If you're looking for classic interactions like Starscream on Megatron "curse your sudden, inevitable, and hopelessly incompetent attempts at betrayal" routines, you'll be disappointed.

Me, I didn't mind so much. It made for a fun action movie with nice nostalgic touches. I didn't go in expecting art or a direct continuity lift from old school transformers, so I wasn't disappointed.

If I was a fan and didn't know about this site, the only way I'd hear about the Gathering would be the comics if advertising was allowed. Or is it a provision outlined as part of paying for the use of the Disney license that doesn't allow them to advertise in the comic medium?

Papering cars is so NOT a good idea. I'm short on gas money but as soon as I have some to spare I'm going to make a run out to the bigger comic shop near me with some fliers. I'll also put some up around campus since, unlike most colleges, mine's got a lot of non-traditional students who sometimes have more cash to spare. Also does the gathering have a presence on myspace? I mean one specifically for the con. That's an idea as well. Also Livejournal/Greatestjournal/Facebook/InsaneJournal/I know there's more out there but I'm blanking on their names right now. There's also firefox extensions like StumbleUpon (which I already added the gathering main page to) and other similar tools that we can hook into as well.

To be effective, any advertising done on behalf of the convention really needs to directed towards areas that will be receptive, like comic book stores, college bulletin boards, and other conventions. We want to make GOOD impression, not randomly spam... and that applies to what we do online as well as what we do out on the street.

Most people don't even read anything they find left on their car. I know I don't. Most people will also get ticked if they see someone touching their vehicle. So yeah... not a real good idea there.

Video game stores may allow fliers too. Maybe not EB Games, but small businesses may allow them. I'll also see if the local magick shops will allow me to hang them up. As in Pagan magick, not Cris Angel magic :) They will probably let me put them up there.

TTT - I'd like to advise against doing something that is going to get the convention into trouble. You paper a bunch of cars, someone gets ticked off, they call DISNEY and bitch to them about DISNEY'S flyer. Then DISNEY looks us up and gives us a Cease & Desist order and we are DONE.

Please ASK if you can post flyers first. Thanks!

Alex Garg >> I'd volunteer to distribute flyers at Convergence, which I attend every year, but 1. I won't be able to print it at my house and 2. I think there are rules at Convergence about getting permission to put up posters. There is a table however, where they put flyers for various conventions, where I might be allowed to add them. But that would require a printer. And ink, colored ink, etc. is expensive. Art they black&white or color?

Getting out there and spreading the word is obviously something we need to be doing, and I'm glad to see a lot of enthusiasm, but spreading the word randomly is a bit of a waste of energy. Sticking flyers under people's windshield wipers, for example, doesn't guarantee that we'll come anywhere close to our target audience. We need to focus ourselves on places where our message has a better chance of being received.

Like I said in my post last week, I am more than happy to give you flyers so you can distribute them in your area, just send me an e-mail. Our flyer as it is currently designed not only mentions the Gathering 2008, but also the comics and the DVDs.

Also, if you attend any other conventions regularly, please let me or anybody on the staff know as we might then look into advertising options to make sure we have a presence there, if not press you into service for handing out flyers.

Again, it's great to see so many people interested in spreading the word about the Gathering and the Gargoyles property, but let's do it in a way that we'll get our message to the people who will most likely be receptive.

Alex Garg - [fiatnox at gmail dot com]

Vaev> How about pointing them to the comics? That's much less expensive, and allows for people to save up to get the DVDs. And if people can commit to saving something as small as $5 a week toward a DVD set, it won't take that long to be able to afford them either.

Sing it Gore!

Another example is that there are people out there who have fond memories of the show. After Laser Tag last Monday, we went over to Wahl-Greens for sodas, and this old lady behind the cashier's desk asked about our con, and when we explained it was for "Gargoyles", she got excited, had very fond memories of the show. We called Greg over, he talked to her briefly about the comic and DVDs and she said she would buy them for her grand children.

They're out there, that story is a prime example, we just need to reach them.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The 11th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
"Am I speaking Latin again? Silly me, sometimes it just slips."

SPREADING THE WORD: The best thing for all of us.

Why?

Lesson by example. I have personally experienced, and heard similar stories from many others, where the subject of Gargoyles, the TV show, is brought up. And the person or people I'm talking too always have the same reaction: "Oh yeah, I remember that show. It was awesome. I loved that show."

People loved the show. People remember the show. People are not aware that the show is out on DVD. People are not aware the comic series exists. Disney has done next to nothing to promote either. What we have to do is promote the show ourselves. Make the rest of the world aware these things exist. That will help spur sales and, in turn, get Disney to react and produce the second volume, produce foreign language versions of the DVDs, promote the DVDs a bit to help sales, and so on.

Petitions are old trick. They're virtually meaningless. We've probably had between 20 and 50 of them specifically showing support for Gargoyles over the last 10 years and they prove worthless. Disney is a for-profit company. They listen to money. Petitions don't make money. Spreading the word about the DVDs and the comics to help boost sales WILL WORK _IF_ enough people buy the DVDs and the comics.

When Greg says at the Gathering (and he's said this every year for at least the past 3) that each one of us needs to tell 1,000 people about the show, the DVDs, etc... he's not kidding, he's not exaggerating. That's the honest truth. 100 people tell 1,000 people and that's 100,000 people. If even 10% of those 1,000 were to pickup a copy of the comic we'd see a more than significant increase in comic sales. That, in turn, could spur further increases via word-of-mouth and perhaps spark interest in the DVDs and boost those sales as well. At which point Disney, raking in a few extra bucks than they were last year courtesy of this 14 year old TV show, will be motivated to release volume 2 and who knows what else.

The big problem with the DVDs is the cost. You're asking people to plunk down 20 bucks for season one and 40 bucks for season 2, volume 1. 60 bucks. That's a huge investment for a casual purchase. That's probably why sales were slow on volume 1.

With the comic book it's more like 4 bucks. A person is more likely to put down 4 bucks for a casual purchase than 40. I think the comic book is the best place to focus attention. Get people interested in the current story so they keep buying comics and, eventually, are motivated to purchase the DVDs.

Issue #5, I think, is a great spot to bring people on. The book is going to look amazing. The story arc ends with a bunch of twists that keep the reader interested and looking towards issue #6. I think any fan of the show who even barely remembers the premise of the TV series will still be able to come in at issue #5 and not be lost from missing the first 4 issues.

But 1,000 people? How the hell do you reach 1,000 people?

Through the internet. You're probably into other things besides Gargoyles. Warcraft perhaps or similar MMO. Maybe some forum or message board that carries similar interests (sci-fi/fantasy/animation/etc.). Surely there's a million and one anime and comic boards out there. I'm sure some of you are involved in these places. So start a thread. Be honest. Pimp the book. Tell them Gargoyles is far from dead and, honestly, it's about to get a lot more exciting than anything you ever saw in the TV show.

Create or post to a blog. Myspace. Facebook. Etc. Create a fan site with your own thoughts about the show, the episodes, the comics. Ever see the cardboard gargoyle do his reviews on the comic? (http://powet.tv/category/animation/gargoyles/) it's silly, but unique and fun and different. It's a great way to help promote the book.

The sad fact here is Disney isn't about to help outside of filling a time spot on Toon Disney to run episodes. We can discuss various means of promoting the book and the show, but that does nothing. You just have to get out there and do something. Stir up interest outside of places like here where you're preaching to the converted. Otherwise nobody will know about the comic book. They won't know about the DVDs. And a large audience of potential fans (and, to Disney, customers) will be lost.

And to be brutally honest if we don't do something soon we risk losing the book itself when the license comes up for renewal. But... if the sales improve and the comic really takes off then you're going to not only get the continuation of the show you want, but you're going to see spin-offs too. And who here doesn't want to see Timedancer? I mean it's Brooklyn's freakin' wife. The guy who gets shafted at every turn finally has his day. But that'll only happen if we're here 16 months from now going strong.

It's all up to us.

How many people attended G'07? Can we organize an event for G'08 where we would all go out, door to door, in Chicago and pass out flyers to spread the word? Maybe we could even go to a parking garage or parking lot of a business or college, and paper the cars? Good idea? Bad idea?

Heal. Teach. Discover. Serve.

Anonymous> What good would spreading the word do? Ummm... considering Disney didn't advertise the Gargoyles DVD at all, I think spreading the word would be a good thing. During the Gathering's comic book panel (which turned into Gargoyles Marketing 101, which I loved, so full of ideas), Greg asked everyone to tell 1000 people. Not all of those 1000 will buy it, but it's a good start. I think a lot more people enjoyed the series that are not actively part of the fandom. I'm sure some people will complain and say they don't know that many people. I know I sure don't. But if you give it some thought, 1000 people is nothing. Print out the DVD cover with the link to Amazon (or the comic cover, or the G2008 poster, they all help!). Stick it somewhere where people will see it; community bulletin boards, college union corkboards, comic book stores. Anywhere that will allow it. And that alone might get you 1000+ people that read it. Easy! You can also go to forums (but not this one, don't preach to the choir!). One that you have already established yourself on, that might be fantasy/sci-fi/Shakespearean/Disney related. Just mention how passionately you feel about the DVD/comic/convention. Depending on the size of the forum, you can easily get 100+ people to read it. Or make a fashion statement! Make a gargoyles t-shirt and put the address for the DVD/comic/convention on the back. I guarantee people will say, "hey, I remember that show". That's your chance to tell them how awesome the DVD is. Be creative! If everyone really does tell 1000 people, just imagine what the fandom can do.

What would spreading the word help? I tried, many people don't even remember the series.
Getting the current DVDs in other countries is problematic, the German episodes seem to be out on YouTube to boot (and currently the "I should get everything for free"-mentality is at the top) and we don't exactly have the potential consumer base the US has. We don't have big Anime or Comic conventions where we could easily attract potential likeminded people (we are currently seeing an uprise in Anime and Manga interest, but you don't want to see how the broadcasters answer that interest). The culture of Comics and Cartoons at least in Germany is barely developed (Common clichee has it, that's either stuff for little children or mindless sex and violence).
The last time Gargoyles was seen on TV was in 1999, it isn't even up on Pay TV, which still is something rather foreign to common mindset.

None of the Broadcasting stations are really interested in it, the TV culture isn't there, we don't really have Cartoon Networks (about two hours of so called Cartoon Networks on early Sunday). And I can't really think of a channel whose image Gargoyles would fit.

I think the country mostly like to make a difference would be France, maybe Britain. France is generally known for its Anime and Cartoon culture, but there aren't all that many people there (the US has five times as many inhabitants). Disney tried to get the DVDs out in the US with minimum money with more potential customers, I don't think they'd go through all the trouble and extra work needed to bring Gargoyles out elsewhere only to make little money. They are unwilling to do so for the second volume of season two, why should they do it for other countries. Other countries for the most parts are just some little extra money brought in, after the US laid the groundwork.
Other countries don't seem to be far better of in the animation department, the people are mostly interested in the new stuff or have fallen out of interest.
The US has a fanbase that has been strong for the last ten years, with convention and everything. There isn't such a continuity in other countries. Many foreign fans capapble of English just attached to the English fandom, the rest more or less got left behind. The US fanbase is organized rather well, you can spread the word of "Everybody, buy on such and such day" and really reach fans, the aren't such centralized institutions for other countries (if anything more than little isolated fanpages even survived to this day). I wouldn't even know where to spread the word that there even should be a campaign.

As I see it, the US DVDs were the shot other countries had at getting the series out in their countries. That's why I bought the DVDs, to support sales in the hopes of maybe having a chance of getting a German version of the series (which I would prefer, I like the German synchro and would like to have it right next to the original on DVD).

As for gaining support for the DVDs from other countries, all we'd need are some good fansubbers. I know nobody outside of the anime industry keeps track of fansubs to see which series should be dubbed and released where, but that would at least get people watching, and maybe some clamor for alternate language releases.

I wasn't just talking about spreading the word about the DVDs in other countries. Just because they aren't readily available doesn't mean word about the series itself can't be spread. I'm sure it's probably broadcast somewhere other than the US and if it isn't, well that's a gold mine right there.

ethangilchrist >> And heck, what about spreading to other countries?
One, there are no other language versions currently available (some people might not understand English, and the English voices aren't really the voices heard in many other countries). Two, exports are somewhat of a hassle and more than a hassle for the average person (technically DVDs that haven't been check by the German version of the MPAA can get impunded by the customs office when the are imported into Germany and credit cards aren't all that common in Germany - something usually needed with import shops). Three, those discs are Region 1, average people in general don't even know what the region code is, much less how to work around it. Four, those discs are in NTSC, many other countries (especially in Europe) use PAL and SECAM (so either you are aware of that and have the proper equipment to display that or live with a bad white and black picture).

The only way foreign countries could help support the DVDs is if they get their own DVD versions, and given the way the whole DVD thing was handled in America (more or less the biggest market for those DVDs), that's very unlikely.
I don't think these DVDs would do that well in other countries and the initative would have to start with Disney in our case.
(Some Anime have managed to get a DVD release practically from small publishers and lots of unpaid fan work, but I think the liscences for Gargoyles and the local language versions would cost too much - and many people would expect the language versions they saw on TV to be present one those DVD sets.)

(I imported both DVD sets and hope that we'll get the second part of season two somewhen in the future.)

TODD >> When you say he correctly described it, does that mean he predicted fireworks?

Vaevictis Asmadi

Incidentally, for those of you who checked Greg's "Today in the Gargoyle Universe" post for July 2 this morning: he's correct about the United States declaring independence from Britain on the 2nd of July rather than the 4th. The Second Continental Congress did indeed declare independence on July 2, 1776; the reason why we celebrate Independence Day on July 4 is because, while they agreed on the idea of independence, they wanted to put the Declaration of Independence through Edits first, and it took them a couple of days before they were pleased enough with the wording to make it official. (John Adams, writing home about it to his wife Abigail, believed that it would be July 2 that would be commemmorated as Independence Day by future generations; he described the celebrations accurately, but was off by a couple of days.)

I assume that Greg included this event in "Today in the Gargoyles Universe" because of the speculations that the Illuminati had some connection to the Founding Fathers (assisted by the Illuminati's symbol being a pyramid with a fiery eye at the top).

What about people like Lex's future mate and Goliath and Elisa's descendants? I would think they'd figure into the equation as well.

As far as we know: Goliath, Hudson, Bronx, Broadway, Angela, Lexington, Brooklyn, Katana, Nashville, Tachi, Fu-Dog, and Artus. Coldstone and Coldfire may also be members by this point. Some of these members might be dead... and some other members may have joined. Brook and Katana may have had a third egg hatch at the same time as Artus, also in 2032, there is at least one egg in the rookery which will hatch into Gwenyvere.
