Of course, Demona might wind up letting her battle rage get in the way of her planning, even with the Three Keys to Power, and be defeated; it happened with the Archmage, who lost in part because he made such mistakes as keeping Goliath alive to torment for the fun of it rather than simply reducing him to a pile of ashes, and we've certainly seen Demona lose often because her anger gets in the way of her planning.

Well, he obviously saw the great magical value of the Grimorum. As for the Eye, it seems to me that he was unaware of its magical properties until October, 1995and he gave it to Goliath before he had any chance to use it further. But even if he knew its power and even if he had the Gate in his possession, I'm not sure it would've occured to him to combine the three. And anyway, how would he do so? He isn't a sorceror, afterall. I highly doubt he would've trusted Demona to help out with that much power. He isn't stupid. And after his experience with the Eye, I wonder if he'd even want to try. I wonder if part of the reason he so easily gave up the Eye is because he couldn't think of any way to make use of it in a useful way.

I guess it wouldn't matter to anyone other than a practicing sorcerer, but did Xanatos know about the three keys to ultimate power, or care that he once had two of them in his possession?

I'd be inclined to say no, given how willing he was to give the Eye of Odin to Goliath after they saved Fox's life, but that could just mean that Fox's life meant more to him than ultimate power.

I've been following Greg at CONvergence in Minneapolis this weekend. Here's some tidbits from the Minorities in Animation panel he was on:

The Spectacular Spider-Man's Rhino was originally going to be African. Marvel shot him down.

Greg considered the TSS-M symbiote to be female. It could be viewed like a jealous girlfriend and would have eventually given birth.

Greg is pretty in the dark on the DC Universe reboot. It won't (can't) affect Young Justice episodes already ordered, i.e. season 1 and the miniseries.

Greg felt he could be a little more overt about Lexington's gayness in the Gargoyles comics but Disney still kept a close eye.

This is what I learned at the Young Justice panel:

Greg doesn't know the air date for Young Justice episode 10. He suspects September.

Season 1 production update: 10-15 are done. 16-18 are in post. 19 just got back from overseas animation. 20-26 are being animated.

Season 2 production update: episodes 1-3 are mostly recorded. 4's script is done and awaiting notes. 5-10 are in outline.

Young Justice season 2 will launch in March 2012 with DC Nation. Season 1, episode 26 takes place on [SPOILER] New Year's Eve [/SPOILER]. Season 2, episode 1 takes place on [SPOILER] January 1st [/SPOILER].

Young Justice comic update: issues 7-8 are being drawn by Christopher Jones. Greg is scripting issue 9.

Greg hinted that the 6-person Young Justice group (7 with Red Arrow) will [SPOILER] grow to 8 and 9 members [/SPOILER].

Aqualad is a good leader of Young Justice because (among other reasons) he'd been in the military since age 12 before going to sorcery school.

I think Xanatos was too smart to be fooled completely by Elisa, or to stake too much on what she might do. Even from the first time they met, the fact that she saw through Owen's story about the "exploding generator" should have immediately tipped him off that she was nobody's fool.

And it's not like he suffered that much of a setback from the skirmish in the park anyway; if anything, it was a learning experience, and I'm sure Xanatos saw it as such.

If his plans had depended on the gargoyles not finding the tracker or identifying the logo on it, I'm sure Xanatos wouldn't have let them. But his plans are never that simple anyway.

Although hypothetical this does bring up an interesting question. If Xanatos is so smart why did he do something so stupid as to leave his manufacturers logo on his tracking devices? I know the gargoyles wouldn't recognize the symbol but why take the risk. He could have had Owen take a can of spray paint to cover up the logo before using the tracker.

That is potentially true. But what if events happened similarly, but she was unable to identify the manufacturer of the tracking device? Or if it was simply damaged, or whatever. There are lots of ways it "could" have happened.

And yeah, when it comes to fictional universes I typically avoid hypotheticals as well, but I thought this was a particularly interesting one to think about, just because Xanatos is such a badass.

What do you think would have happened if Goliath and company had teamed up with Xanatos? Let's say they still disagree with Demona and her "let's destroy all of the humans" craziness and fight her off, but they DON'T discover that Xanatos faked the theft of the discs, or that Xanatos was using them, preventing the Gargoyles from beginning to mistrust him, removing his motivations to eliminate them, and leading to Xanatos continuing to have them work for him?

What kinds of stuff do you think Xanatos would have had them get into for him? How would other adventures/plots/etc. that were in the show have worked out if they had been working with Xanatos at the time instead of separately from him?
