Matt- I think that their are two gargoyles that look like Brooklyn. There is the one in the shot with the one that looks like Second, and he is also in a shot where he is swooping over the vikings. Then their is another one that has white hair and what look like sideburns in a close up shot. Looking at all the shots, I think there is about a dozen unnamed gargoyles from the Wyvern clan.

About the Avalon clan, do you think that Greg had picked out the all the names for the clan (not labeling the ones we have seen, just picked out names to use for the rest of them)?

Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

If you include the Avalon Clan gargoyles, I count we've seen approximately 40 individual gargoyles. Of course, many of these are directly related and/or design repeats so it is hardly a random sample. Still, I think it is fairly obvious that web-wings of either type are a significant majority.

And I strongly doubt that Greg has names picked out for many gargoyles. First of all, among the Wyvern Clan, they didn't have names. And Greg didn't assign them background names (like Othello, Sacrifice or Kermit) until he needed to for writing reasons. Though there are a few exceptions (like Hyppolyta and True). And with the Ishimura Clan and others, I doubt he has picked out any names aside from the ones we know and possibly a few that may become relevant one day but he hasn't told us about yet.

Other biological relationships> Looking through Lynati's site (http://gsh.lurkingfish.com/_GargCaps.htm), I can see a few other links. For instance, one gargoyle looks just like Second, except his coloring is different. He doesn't look especially old so I suspect that is Second's brother (Second's father would have to be older than Hudson). Another gargoyle (with the long white horns) has Hudson exact skin and hair coloring suggesting a common ancestor there. Perhaps they are brothers or cousins. There is a gargoyle seen in the series intro that looks like Brooklyn, though I don't know if he is Brook and Brooksbro's father or brother or what. And there is a female gargoyle seen only from behind that has Goliath's skin and hair coloration that I think is Goliath's mother (notice the tattered wings implying advanced age like Hudson). And like I mentioned, a gargoyle that seems to clearly be Kermit's father.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Thats three down and two to go..." -Sevarius, "The Reckoning"

Matt- Looking closer, you are correct. I wonder how common the web wings where among the Wyvern clan? There are three of them among about 20-30 members of the clan we have seen. I also wonder if any other clans have members with wings like these?

Looking at this unnamed gargoyle, I wonder if Greg has names for all the unnamed Gargoyles seen in the episodes? We know the Avalon clan is named for angels, I wonder what if he has picked out names for the ones we have seen? Same goes for the Ishimura clan. Also, does he have "backstage" names for the members of the Wyvern clan seen in "Awakening"?

Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Adam> Actually, I suspect Sacrifice and Lex are more closely related to each other than the other one because his wing type, while similiar is a little different. Lex and Sacrifice have a visable "arm" in their wings, the other guy doesn't. He has some sort of internal rod.

I've also wondered if Kermit is Lex's brother. I think they are closely related, but nor biological brothers. Maybe cousins. I'm pretty sure we get a quick glimpse of Kermit's father in Awakening Part One. Go to this page: http://gsh.lurkingfish.com/Gw_Dead.htm Scroll to the very bottom and look at the gargoyle on the far right. Looks exactly like Kermit with different coloring.

Really, I'm wondering if Sacrifice is Lexington's older sister.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Thats three down and two to go..." -Sevarius, "The Reckoning"

Matt and Comet- Lexington, Sacrifice, and the other gargoyle that Comet provided a picture of are the only Gargoyles we have seen that have that kind of wing structure. Since they are all from the same clan, I think that it is possible that they are biologically related to each other, though I think Sacrifice is more distantly related than Lex and the other one.
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Well, at least I'm pretty sure that "Kermit" is the younger brother of Lexington, and I know I'm not alone with that thought, but who cares. xD

Anyway, I always thought that this Gargoyle could be related to Lex in some way, too:

Ninja> Thanks for the info. A lot of us have actually been e-mailing Disney about that for quite a while now, and always get the same message Johnny got there ("tentative plans"). 2012 only has a few months left, so I'm wondering if/when they're going to release this thing.

Unfortunately, the fans no longer do Gatherings. But Greg Weisman has always been willing to do more if you want to put one together.

Hi,

Dunno if Greg will see this, but just found out that his name is one of numerous creators listed on one of the Amazing Spider-Man 700 covers. I think it's just a variant cover, but still, pretty cool. His name is directly under Paolo Rivera.

Hope that works.

Tim Gillock - [TDG3RD@hotmail.com]

Oh, yeah! I forgot something else. Does any know when the next Gathering of the Gargoyles is? Or the next panel to whatever convention is it?

P.S: Sorry for the mistakes in my last message. I type too fast for my own good. ^_^' Now if you'll excuse, I gotta send a message to Disney about our favorite stone-by-day-gargoyles-by-night heroes.

NinjaSheik

It's been a long time since I came. I bet none of guys remember me, but sorry I've been MIA. Stuff to do and all that such, but no matter how long time has passed Gargoyles has always been in my heart. Cheesy, I know, but it's the truth, the most sincere way to show that my love for Gargoyles never diminished. Again, cheesy, but hey, I'm a girl and an author. I'm allowed to be cheesy. :P

Anyway, I've been reading through the archives like I do when I visit sometimes, I found this~ http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/archives.php?lid=161

I still hope that Gargoyles Season Two Volume Two will come out some day, and reading that message about those who e-mail Disney made me realize that I should've done the same long ago. With Young Justice, I know (and hope fans out there still remember the good old days when Gargoyles still aired on TV) that some people manage to see similar between the show and Gargoyles.

In any case, I want to e-mail Disney. If there's a chance for us to get the rest of Season Two out on DVD in 2012, then I'm taking it. And hope everyone else does, too. E-mail Disney and disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com send them a message telling them they you and all the other loyal Gargoyles fans out want them rest of Season Two. I don't care about Season Three since it's noncanon, I just the brilliance of Greg Weisman's episodes on DVD so I can enjoy it any time I want.

I care about Gargoyles enough to take this chance. Sure, it could be just a futile attempt from a one girl, but you don't know what you and few hundreds can accomplish if you don't try, right? :) Anyway, I just wanna encourage you guys to the same, so I decided to come here and post this comment.

I've done just that, so... Bye, and please tell others to tell Disney that we want GARGOYLES BACK!

Is the Archmage actually a wizard? Maybe the reason he's so pissy all the time is because he got rejected from WIT.

Yeah, I didn't think he was doing manual labor. But then again, we don't know for certain. And that's true, it doesn't mean the castle was magical, even if magic was involved to make it.
Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Arlo> I doubt the Archmage was simply hauling mortar and chipping stone.

At the very least, he was involved in the planning of the Castle, I suspect. But really, I think his magic was involved.

That doesn't make the Castle magical or anything.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Thats three down and two to go..." -Sevarius, "The Reckoning"

Daka>"Including Robin and Zatanna, who barely know each other."

You didn't watch season one, did you?

Harlan Phoenix

Greg B.> Thanks. One interesting thing to note is that just because he said the archmage was involved doesn't necessarily mean the castle was constructed magically, although that does seem to be a strong possibility.

Daka> One interesting thing to note is that there was a time when the things you describe heterosexual couples doing wouldn't have been considered appropriate for a children's (or any) television show either. Like Matt touched on, homosexuality is just one of the last things that hasn't been accepted yet. Doesn't mean it won't be someday. Everything takes time.

I am going to deviate from the popular opinion here, though, and not blame the network for this. I can see where they're coming from. There are still large parts of the U.S. that are anti-gay, and don't want their kids growing up seeing homosexuality displayed openly, and the network doesn't want to alienate those viewers. A lot of people here seem to expect the network to be their hero in this instance and challenge that backwards mentality, but that isn't the network's job. They exist to earn money from as many people as possible. I'm not defending greedy capitalism, but expecting an entity that's clearly in the business of earning money and nothing else to morph into this Martin Luther King-type figure for you seems rather silly/unrealistic. I think it's time to accept the fact that the real problem is we never should have let society deteriorate to the point that we're letting our television sets teach our children their values for us. If we hadn't done that, this wouldn't be nearly as big of a problem for either the pro or anti gay sides.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Daka> You are not going to find very many who disagree with you about that here.

But, I do think that times are changing, though slowly. It starts with shows for adults, then sitcoms, then shows for teens. Now we have series' largely aimed at children, like "Gargoyles", where the writers might write a character as gay and many of the fans might see it but no actual mention is made. It is only a matter of time before someone pushes this envelope further. And when it happens, it'll be controversial and raise some concerns from some people, but eventually it'll be accepted. One day, it will even be a non-issue. That is how it works. Culture changes slowly, so the more open-minded among us need to be patient.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Thats three down and two to go..." -Sevarius, "The Reckoning"

In response to a question about putting gay characters in Young Justice and the problems with portraying Lexington properly he said this:

"Probably. Things have progressed... some. But almost not at all in anything perceived as children's programming."

I know there isn't anything he can do about it (well not much without risking getting fired I'd imagine) but I can't believe that straight characters are allowed to form couples, fight over each other, make out all at once (season 1 finale of young justice), including Robin and Zatanna who barely know each other, and yet a gay character can't even be portrayed. What message is this sending kids exactly because it doesn't seem like a good one.

Daka

Since the King Arthur of the Gargoyles Universe was the familiar King Arthur of medieval romance rather than a post-Roman "dux bellorum" or war leader (though his hair-style looks more Celtic than High Middle Ages), a stone castle in 10th century Scotland isn't too out of place.

(For that matter, in the comic book's depiction of the Battle of Rathveramoen, we have a few knights wearing closed helms more appropriate for the 12th century than the 10th.)

Here's the problem with most fanfic writers: they seem to think Dominique is a second life. It isn't. Demona spelled it plainly in "High Noon." She's a gargoyle. Dominique is just a tool to help her in her goals. She'll use the form because she changes into a human, whether she likes it or not, but Dominique is not another life for her.

I didn't know the Archmage was the one who built the castle, or that he used magic to do it. Where is that in the archives? I didn't see it under Archmage or Castle Wyvern, although I skipped rambles/This Day In Gargoyles Historys.

Does that mean Castle Moray was also constructed magically? Because that one's even more inaccurate than Wyvern.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Jurgan> That was the depths below the Archmage's Cave... though given how extensive they were it wouldn't surprise me if some of them stretched all the way to Castle Wyvern or nearly so.

Yeah, I think the Captain and Hakon were haunting the whole general region, both the episode and Greg's comments strongly support this.

I'm not sure if their haunting or the Archmage's assistance in the building of the castle factored into the Coldtrio's survival, but don't get too excited about that. Afterall, look at Coldstone. Look at the stone pieces. That is all that is left from THREE gargoyles. Barely enough to complete half of a body. And what is left is generally the thicker stuff. Torso and legs. The wings are completely artificial. Very little managed to survive the centuries. And I wonder if the awakening spell actually caused some of the fragments to revive and reassemble a bit as well. Keep in mind that the spell did enable the stone to flex and move as if flesh. Some change in the fragments had to take place for this to happen.

This is a good time to mention that what bothers me most about Coldstone is his hair. Why is it flowing, white hair? I wish it had been stone like the rest of Coldstone is. (The same can be said for his stone eye and his tongue and teeth.) It would've been much more visably interesting and clear if all of the stone had remained stone. Of course, maybe Xanatos and Demona devised a wig for him for some reason.

Anyway, it is one of my wishes for the series that Coldstone would've been ALL stone (plus the cybernetics).

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Thats three down and two to go..." -Sevarius, "The Reckoning"

We already know there's magic at Wyvern, because of the... whatever it was that was under the castle where Hakon and the Captain were ghosts.
Jurgan - [jurgan6@yahoo.com]

Arlo: One thing to consider is that we know Castle Wyvern was partially assembled using magical assistance from the Archmage...hence its periodical inaccuracy.

One thought I've had for a while is that there might still be some amount of "magical residue" saturating the castle from that initial construction period, which could've accounted for some amount of protection toward its inhabitants (or rather, their remains) from the elements.

It's a good question, though.

Masterdramon - [kmc12009@mymail.pomona.edu]
"We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow..." - Led Zeppelin

So something occurs to me when reading the archives on Coldstone.

On this post: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=9965 Greg seems to confirm that the pieces of three different gargoyles Coldstone was made out of were taken from Castle Wyvern relatively recently, and not kept by Demona over the centuries. The GargWiki entry on Coldstone here: http://gargwiki.net/Coldstone takes this further by saying it was Xanatos, not Demona, who had retrieved those pieces, which again, points to a relatively recent acquisition of them, implying that they were just lying there, untouched over the centuries.

But how is this possible? Okay, Castle Wyvern is said to be haunted, so no one wanted to go near it. But were the Captain and Hakon actually haunting the castle? From what we saw, it only looked like they were haunting the Archmage's lair, or had they been haunting the general area? That's the only way I see it being plausible that no one ever took advantage of the opportunity to take an abandoned castle that was just sitting there for centuries. It would have been like having the chance to own a free mansion. Who would pass that up?

But even if the Captain and Hakon were haunting the general castle area (and didn't it look like the Archmage's lair was a ways off from the castle in "Long Way to Morning?") how is it that those remnants of the slaughtered gargoyles haven't succumbed to the elements by now? Yes, other castles from medieval times have survived until today, but they were mostly inhabited and maintained, were they not? Or at least, if they were abandoned from time to time, it wasn't for a full millenium? And the slaughtered gargoyle remains aren't actually stone, they're technically organic matter, which tends to decompose over time.

Okay, we saw in Awakening Part II that the living but always asleep clan's stone forms are still the same, so maybe gargoyle-organic-stone matter decomposes at roughly the same rate as actual stone, or even more slowly. But they were also intact, and thus had their own solidity to protect them from, say, a huge gust of wind blowing them against a wall and shattering them to dust, blowing them off into the wind to be forever lost during a severe storm or tornado. The same can't be said for the smaller, broken-up pieces of the shattered gargoyles.

I'm just not seeing how those pieces would still have been there after all that time. But at the same time, even if Greg were to change what he's said (which is certainly his right, since it hasn't been established in canon material yet) I also can't see how Demona would have kept those pieces over the centuries, or why she would have bothered to do it, having no idea that someday, technology might enable her to bring those gargoyles back to life. When she's crying over their remains in the flashback in "City of Stone," there's no indication that she takes them, and she's not carrying any sort of bag that she would have been able to carry them in. When she returns after Goliath & crew have been turned to stone by the Magus' spell, we again don't see her give any thought to taking those remains. Sure, she could have come back at some point in time, but what would her motivation be?

Any thoughts on how those pieces survived?

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Adam> I think Zafiro and Turguesa probably were leader and second before the massacre. Goliath and Brooklyn were always going out on Patrols, usually leaving Hudson behind. I think this wold also be true for the Mayan clan. The leaders received the pendants so they could protect the Green.
Brack

Unsurprisingly, I really enjoyed the SF Debris "City of Stone" review. A lot of great points. Some of it is stuff that has been discussed over the years a lot, but, as usual, there were a few things I had never thought about before. One thing he pointed out that I really liked is how he contrasts Demona's thoughts on age and leadership from "Long Way to Morning" (where she felt "Hudson" should step down because he was getting older) and "City of Stone" (where Demona, though getting quite old herself, refuses to even consider stepping down for a younger gargoyle).

I also had a few laughs. Like when Macbeth is crowned on the Stone of Destiny and the caption says "Safe!" or the pronunciation of Gruoch.

Yeah, that site has had quite a few interviews with notable people from Sierra On-line's history. The reason they interviewed Gary Owens is because he was the narrator for a couple of games in the Space Quest series, which was one of the popular Sierra quest-games, and one of the series whose authors have gotten a successful Kickstarter finished. But yeah, he's a notable voice in animation, having done Space Ghost and others. I think he was the narrator for most of the old Hannah Barbara cartoons like Huckleberry Hound and El Kabong, etc.

My all-time favorite line from him is probably "But Huckleberry Hunter wasn't as dumb as he... uh, er, well he had some other ideas."

Arlo> Ah shoot, I knew I forgot something important tonight. Well, I'll listen to the recorded version while I'm at work in the afternoon.

As to Kickstarter, I don't know how well that would work. I know there have been a few issues with certain projects recently and I believe basically asking for donations on behalf of something else rather than going into a direct production creates some legal issues. Still, Kickstarter has been a GREAT indicator of the rising sense that a full-blown nineties nostalgia boom is coming.

I have a question about the Mayan clan. I don't know if this have ever been brought up before and I would like to ask Greg. My question is, where Zafiro and Turquesa leader and second of the clan when the rest of the clan was destroyed? Or was Zafiro leader and the old second killed so he picked Turquesa to be the new second, or was Zafiro second and the leader killed so he took over leader and appointed Turquesa to be his second. Any thoughts?
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

So I just got back from watching a live podcast by Lori and Cori Cole, the authors of the Quest for Glory series that Brainiac and I have mentioned a couple of times on here. A lot of the authors of the old Sierra quest-games have been starting Kickstarters to make their own computer games lately, and with fan support, they've been able to generate upwards of $500 grand for each project. Like Gargoyles, these were things that only had a small fan-base across the web, but once fans spread the word that the original authors were back at it, huge amounts of money started pouring in from people who remembered the old games.

Someone should really suggest to Greg that he and the Creature Comics crew open up a Kickstarter of their own to see if they can raise enough money to license the comic rights from Disney themselves. I know there's also the issue of not having experience in the production and distribution of comics, but maybe they can get someone on board who does have some experience in that field and wants to help out.
