Ross: That, and the main question ("Why'd you do the Time Skip?") has already been addressed ad-nauseam by Greg W. A post with one repeated question and two non-repeats still violates Guideline #2. So it's at my discretion to delete it already.

Combined with the arguable breaking of Guideline #13, yes, I will probably end up deleting this one when I get to that point.

Mm. That question is, at the very least, straddling the line of challenging Greg to acknowledge how correct the questioner is about his/her criticisms.

I was going to comment, then decided that you pretty much covered it already. Then I decided to post the comment anyway:

The difference is surely that Vandal has known the Leaguers attacked Rimbor for 5 years and had all that time to build connections. Batman has known for a few months, and has spent much of that time on trial.

Supermorff

Right, but that's missing my point a little. He's casually sitting safely in a trial held by a culture of anarchic, constitutionally corrupt savages in a seat of privilege next to another powerful galactic leader.

I'm not saying that Savage having the advantages he does isn't within reason, because I do buy it. I am saying that I can see the logic of someone wondering why someone on the Justice League (especially Batman, given his reputation and position of authority in season 1) wouldn't also have impressive connections and/or contingencies.

I don't think it'd be easy to argue, what with the sheer size of the galaxy and so many other factors, but I CAN see the logic. I don't think YJ's writing would be above it, but the reasons it DOESN'T go the route of super Batgod detective make perfect sense as well.

Harlan Phoenix

Harlan: To be fair, Vandal doesn't really need to be "absurdly prepared" to attend the trial on Rimbor.

He has Boom-Tube tech. He just needs to use it.

Matt> I think the Batman comments have a vague legitimacy. Not REALLY (because, yeah, it's a big galaxy), but it's not like Young Justice doesn't dabble in that sort of "Batgod" writing. Vandal Savage is basically the meme version of David Xanatos as proliferated by a post-TV Tropes pop culture fandom culture. If Vandal Savage can be absurdly prepared to the point of casually attending the Rimbor trial with his home dizzle Mongul, why CAN'T Batman also be so prepared he'd have some sort of contingency if someone used HIMSELF as a weapon?

That's not to say that I think the Batman complaint is right or that I think Vandal's a bad character. When he showed up in Revelations, I thought he was the perfect choice for the villain. Young protagonists, bad guy is the ultimate adult and, likewise, he doesn't really NEED to be anything else than a powerful man seeking to assert his authority on a young Earth. That's thematically perfect. And I don't think the Batman complaint is right because I'd only want that sort of perfect planning Batman if he was intended to be a major mentor in Invasion who ALSO provided some sort of strife to the Team and prevented their effectiveness in some way. If he ended up being a misguided antagonist asserting his authority.

But Invasion didn't go that direction, and I don't think it should have, so there's no real need for Batman to be as effective as Vandal or the oft-referenced "Batgod" of the DCAU (a character I also happen to really like). But I DO see the logic in wondering why Batman's intelligence, combined with vast Justice League resources, don't match Vandal's...especially since the first season established both as the main authority affecting the Team at large.

Harlan Phoenix

Harlan Phoenix> Ha Ha! No kidding.

I find it interesting and, well, confusing that "Very Confused" has decided to come here to Ask Greg NOW with these comments. If he/she stopped watching months ago, why come here now?

And his/her comments are kind of bizarre. Where would Batman and/or the League even know where to start when it comes to the missing time? I mean, they theoretically could've been anywhere. And it's a damn big galaxy, as we are learning this season.

And Superboy and Miss Martian's breakup is hardly a shock given what she was doing and was trying to do to him. People break up all the time for much less, especially young people. I can totally see her doing that and I'd balk if that didn't cause some serious relationship issues between them.

Bardolph> We've seen no indication that he is performing like a circus fire-breather. It seems to me that he is actually producing the fire himself, not simply spitting a fuel and using a flame.

It also occurs to me that we can't be sure that Mistress Quickly is moving at superhuman speed. Maybe she is just very fast, but not supernaturally so.

Gee whiz, a stupid Young Justice question?

Stop the presses, everybody.

Harlan Phoenix

Here's a post I'll probably regret, but it's directed at "Very Confused" who just posted the following in ASK GREG.

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=18579

More specifically this little chunk of their complaint:

"It just doesn't make sense! I mean really, Batman wouldn't take that long to figure out what happened to him in his missing hours! Also, the reason for Connor and M'gann breaking up is kind of silly..."

1. Because Batman is not omniscient, even the world's greatest detective can take YEARS to solve a case. Despite how other cartoons and some comics depicted him, he is not Batgod. He doesn't already know everything.

2. Miss Martian was mind raping people and then tried to erase Superboy's memory of her doing it. At best, that's a severe violation of trust... and trust really isn't the only thing that's violating. It's hardly a "silly reason" to end a relationship.

"For every two dozen Phantom Menaces, there is a Return of the King. For every two-bit Shyamalan, a Stanley Kubrick is born. For every poor soul who groans during an Adam Sandler-funded Rob Schneider vehicle, there is a child crying life-affirming tears when Bambi's mom is shot. Somewhere out there, a film student is finding out what Rosebud means for the first time. A man is pausing as Fredo prays the Hail Mary on a boat over Lake Tahoe. A woman grasps her heart as Bogie's love flies off into the foggy night. All it takes is one moment to change a person. And that one moment... no matter how fleeting... is worth a thousand Transformers."

Count me as another who likes the idea of the Tazmanian Tiger as a future member of the Ultra-Pack. It fits nicely; a guy named after a pack animal, a thrill-seeker, and who was introduced fighting Dingo. They might bring the thylacines into the Ultra-Pack as well; the Ultra-Pack would probably want them now that the gargoyles have two beasts instead of just one. (Presumably beefing them up so that Bronx and Fu-Dog don't render them extinct all over again.)

Or Bardolph is just skilled. Like a circus fire breather.

Bardolph's fire-breathing skills may be a chemical trick in my opinion, although I'm not sure. I have a feeling his burn scars are directly connected to his ability, but have no idea how.
And Mistress Quickly's super-speed... don't really know how someone could do this without magical or technical help, maybe she's a halfling, a cyborg or something.

Comet

Tazmanian Tiger is the perfect new member for the Ultra-Pack.

I hadn't thought about Mistress Quickly, but that is a pretty cool idea and makes a lot of sense.

And all of it makes me wish to see a Ultra-Pack versus Redemption Squad battle. Epic.

And speaking of Falstaff's gang, I don't think we ever discussed their abilities. Points, Pistol and Doll seem to be ordinary humans with exceptional skills, but Bardolph and Quickly seem almost superhuman in their abilities. Where/how did they acquire the ability to breathe fire and super-speed?

I don't know, I can hardly imagine anyone else joining the Redemption Squad at this point... it seems so well-balanced and fitting as it is now...
I like the possibility of the Tazmanian Tiger joining the Ultra-Pack, though.

Matt> I'd actually be totally down with Pal Joey.
Harlan Phoenix

Generally, I think a former Illuminatus would be a likely candidate...but I'm not sure who. It may well be a character we haven't yet met.

I also think the "Clone Wars," whenever they occur, are likely to produce a candidate or two.

MATT> Ooh, I like this question. One theory I saw on TVTropes was that Mistress Quickly would join the team. Possible, maybe. I dunno. On formspring, both Sandman and Silver Sable joined... but that so doesn't count.

Hmm...

This is tough.

I'll say Mistress Quickly. She's already in their custody.

Here's something:

If a new member was to join the Redemption Squad, who would you want it to be and why?

I'll admit that i have not put too much thought into how I'd answer it, but I think about whenever I read Dingo wondering if Thug is right for the team.

I suppose they would have to have been some sort of villain or antagonist to fit the theme.

What about Tea, the werepanther? Or Helios, the New Olympian? No, no. Pal Joey, definitly Pal Joey.

Speaking as someone who stumbled on this forum relatively recently (was aware of the tGS site but not really this forum) I thought its been really nice to be able to talk with other garg fans (since I don't know any IRL). And there's been some interesting discussions to watch.

But at the same time, its pretty obvious I've stumbled on a well established group, and therefore it seems like a lot of topics have already been hashed and re-hashed so....

FTBM

Yes, that's true. But I do think that we seem to exhaust the topics so quickly that we run out of things to say. As I've mentioned before (probably more than once), our posts seem to be more like "Angels in the Night" (winding things up so that it's difficult to continue them) than like "Hunter's Moon" (opening new doors).

Hufflepuffs are great finders

Well, closing it would mean that also no new people can post... the fandom is quiet enough, and I'm happy to have this little place here... where people with actual knowledge about this topic post.

And if a new fan appears, which happens from time to time, and the comment room is closed, they would be very disappointed.
*sigh* Oh my, it's so hard to find the right words for what I want to say...

Comet
Double, double, toil and trouble. Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

I think much of the problem is that practically all the posts we make sum up the subject so much that there doesn't seem any point in writing anything in reply.

Maybe it's time to retire the comment room, until we have more discussion topics.

I just wanted to say thank you for all of your hard work and dedication Mr. Weisman. Many of the shows you worked on were shows that made my childhood great and ones I miss terribly. Thank you so much for the work you do on Young Justice, one of the only shows worth turning my television on for nowadays.

Brainiac: Well, while the delay is a shame (if not an unexpected one), I'm happy to hear it's coming to Wii U.

While I have both a 3DS and Steam, I prefer console gaming whenever possible. Especially for plot-heavy stuff like this.
