I've heard back and forth arguments that Season 3 of Gargoyles is non-canon and that the events do not tie in with the rest of the universe. Is there any truth to that or does s3 tie in with s1+2.

Personally I hope not for the clones sake

The New Knights of the Round Table would have been a very interesting group to see. I think it would have been composed of mostly new characters and multi-cultural. I think we would have seen Griff, the teen heroes from the paper, and at least one of the World Tour characters. It would be really interesting if Arthur managed to recruit a new Child of Oberon and a new New Olympian character.
I think the Redemption Squad would have teamed up with Knights, but I doubt any of them would have actually joined.
The Knights would probably also consist of a few new Gargoyle characters, most likely from England, but maybe one or two from Ishimura as well.

What does that have to do with "Gargoyles"? "The Goliath Chronicles" is not "Gargoyles" ;)

Two years ago when they shot scenes for "The Avengers" in Cleveland, we learned that film productions have code names when it was explained that all the guide signs with "GH" that sprung up around downtown stood for "Group Hug". Two other films, "Draft Day" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" have been filming here for the past couple of weeks, and though I don't know which production it refers to, it has been amusing me as a Gargoyles fan that signs saying "P.I.T. Parking -->" are plastered everywhere.

Greg B- Looking at Terry Chung's page on gargwiki is why I think he looks younger in Bad Guys. I just think the different artists drawings make him look young. Plus, I don't remember sitting me or my brother sitting on anyone's shoulders when we were 12.

I think it would have taken a while for any pro-gargoyle groups to emerge in New York (apart from the clan's slowly growing circle of human friends - which did expand in the comic when Dr. Sato joined it). At this point, the gargoyles are still a frightening unknown quantity, an apparently hostile and violent species of bat-winged "monsters" (and it wouldn't help that so many gargoyle physical attributes are borne by monsters and demons in fantasy fiction, art, and games). From the public's point of view, they aren't a new minority group (though the production team for "The Goliath Chronicles" seems to have made that assumption), just something "other" that's out there, likely dangerous and hostile - and they don't even know what the gargoyles are. Not everyone is going to want to see them wiped out (certainly a lot of scientists would want to study them, especially once word of such unusual biological features as stone sleep becomes public - just imagine what effect that discovery, a phenomenon unknown in the animal kingdom outside of gargates, would have on the scientific community), but very few people are likely to see them as an intelligent and maligned species that they should reach out to. Maybe when the public find out more about gargoyles, that could change, but it would probably have been a long, slow process.

Though the notion of the kind of people who think demons are cool being pro-gargoyle, to the clan's embarrassment, would be fun to see.

That Formspring story about the over-the-top pro-gargoyle group demanding that the humans abandon Manhattan to become a gargoyle sanctuary reminds me of the "Pinky and the Brain" episode where Brain tried a similar ploy with Pittsburg (in this case, making it a mousealope sanctuary). I wonder if that influenced the posters there.

Todd: Great to hear. To me, the great strength of all Greg Weisman shows is how they're written on multiple levels, allowing diverse audiences to tune in and get different things out of the experience.

Usually, this applies mostly to age groups - his ability to write for both kids and adults, without talking down to the former or making the tone inaccessible to the latter. But for "The Spectacular Spider-Man" and "Young Justice," I felt this also applied quite well to comic book geeks and non-geeks.

Those familiar with the source material would get all the little references and in-jokes, deepening their enjoyment of the series. But even those who pretty much just know "Robin exists" can still jump in and understand the characters.

Hopefully he applies the same philosophy to "Star Wars Rebels," because my familiarity with SW lore is rather...lacking compared to my knowledge of Spidey or DC Comics.

Antiyonder: Actually, the Formspring roleplayers pretty much did that exact story, using an extremist interpretation of PIT called the "People for Interspecies Triumph." Among other things they committed terrorist acts against the Quarrymen, and later the rest of the city, and demanded the abandonment of New York by humans so that it could serve as a sanctuary for gargoyles (or as their propaganda called them, "Night Angels").

They met their end soon after their leader, Lacunae Rahdon, offered herself as a test subject for Sevarius finally attempting a human-gargoyle mutate - renaming herself "Raksha" in the process. When she attempted to do the same to a large crowd, however, Demona intervened and quite literally ripped her to pieces for "pretending" she was worthy of being a gargoyle.

PIT largely died off after that arc, though more recently it has resurfaced as part of a larger organization called "The Demon's Talon" - a cult that worships Demona as a goddess. Its current leader is Jade, born Khulan Borjigin, who is (among other things) the daughter of the Formspring version of Iron Man archvillain, the Mandarin.

The dynamic of the Manhattan Clan and the more moderate "Friends of Humanity" being caught between the extremes of the Quarrymen and PIT, and trying to navigate a safe middle ground for their allies, made that arc a real treat for me. And now that both PIT and the Friends have been bought out and secretly subsumed under the Talon...well, the story definitely isn't over.

Adam> Can't really say that PIT would end up in Gargoyles, at least not in the fashion that they were depicted in TGC.

And I have to again bring up some good speculation on how such a group could work. As mentioned before, The Quarrymen from what little we saw of them in the comics aren't going to be a simplistic villain group as they were onscreen. Major example is Castaway trying to present a positive image for public support.

So to contrast with a less villainous take on an anti-gargoyles group, you'd want a pro-gargoyles group made of people who are well destructive and the last kind of people that the clan would want to represent them.

Has anyone tried a fanfic with this incidentally?

Antiyonder

Sorry for the double-post, but does anyone else think Terry Chung looks a lot young in Bad Guys than he does in Masque? To me he looks about 11 or 12 in Masque, but in Bad Guys he looks 7 or 8? What do you think?

Sorry, should have been "Masterdramon".

By a neat coincidence, one of Greg's answers today at "Ask Greg" mentioned some preliminary work on the Arthurian elements in the Gargoyles Universe for his timeline, but still only as index cards; apparently he would have moved them into the main timeline if SLG had kept the "Gargoyles" license long enough for Greg to do the "Pendragon" spin-off.

MATT - I also like the idea of Arthur's knights being from around the world rather than just Britain, for the reason you cited. (Though Malory indicates that the Round Table was a bit more cosmopolitan than you might have thought. Not only were Lancelot and his family French, but it also numbered a few Saracens such as Sir Palomides, who were apparently from the Middle East, and a Hungarian knight named Sir Urre. Malory's sources also report that another knight of the Round Table, Sir Sagramor, was the nephew of the Emperor of Constantinople.)

I'm a bit cautious about the various "World Tour" heroes (apart from Griff, of course) joining Arthur's modern-day Round Table, though; they have their own protectorates, which they might not wish to desert.

MASTERDAEMON - Yes, the public library has the DVDs of the early episodes (at least) of "Young Justice: Invasion", and I look forward to seeing them.
I'm curious to how I'll handle the time shift, which I understand was extremely controversial with the viewers.
I did think that one of the best features of "Young Justice" was that it was accessible to someone who has only a general knowledge of DC Comics. For example,
I'd never heard of Guardian before I saw the opening two-parter, but I got who he was; a super-hero, not part of the Justice League, apparently, but known to its members and their proteges and respected by them, and clearly a good-hearted and reasonable guy, who has to be mind-controlled to help out the darker activities at Cadmus Labs.
Rebel> "Probably pretty good. Though I think Claw has already found his place--I'm with Matt in thinking a mutate like Thug is more likely."

You've got a point there. Also, Thug is a bit less developed as a character then Claw, so making him (Thug) a Knight could/would change that.

Matt- I think their was an episdoe of ST:TNG where a planet was like that and they tried to steal the kids from the Enterprise. And interesting thought you have, though. I guess when Greg said that their is still cloning going on in 2198, I never thought of that. I just assumed that the Labyrinth clan would have numbers enough to bread like Gargoyles.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Yeah, I think that between 1997 and 2008 the London Clan will decide to go ahead and cautiously permit each mated pair to go ahead and produce a third egg. I think Staghart and a few other London gargoyles will take some of these eggs to boost the numbers of the Manhattan Clan (which explains why Artus' egg will not be the only one in the 2008-2018 Manhattan rookery), but I also think that during that time frame the London Clan's secret will be revealed to the world and it'll be a little safer for the Clan to grow a bit.

I don't know if New Camelot will be founded quite yet, but if so, some more gargoyles and eggs will certainly head that way. The Mayan Clan will have their hands full of hatchlings.

As for the Labyrinth Clan, I have a theory that the rapid maturation process made them sterile and they will realize this soon. Somehow, they will begin cloning themselves (and probably mixing their DNA to make hybrid clones ala Delilah). So they'll start popping gargate clones out of tubes and each batch will be a "rookery", rather than a clutch of eggs. The cloning and the habits picked up from Talon and Maggie and the Labyrinth humans will probably cause them to be very aware of their parentage. All of these cultural differences helps to explain the seperation between the Manhattan and Labyrinth Clans over the years, not to mention the Delilah of 2198.

I also think that when Arthur founds his new Camelot, I think around 50 gargoyles from the London clan could join him. Since the clan is so large, I believe they have the capacity to not only start a new clan, but replenish several other clans (the only known with small numbers are Manhattan and Mayan, although the Labyrinth clan is small, I don't think many non clone/mutates will live there).

Yeah, I couldn't help thinking Dingo would make a good knight one day, but I didn't mention him because we don't know how long the Redemption Squad (or at least the original lineup) will be around.

I also think a New Olympian will join, but probably not Taurus (who, like Dingo, seems like he'll be plenty busy enough in his own spinoff). Maybe one of Boreas' sons. For the same reason I left out Terry Chung.

Matt- I was also thinking the members of the Redemption Squad could make good knights (Once they find their redemption, although I think Yama would go back to Japan). If the director is an advisary of the Illuminati, then King Arthur would be a natural ally.

KingCobra582> Griff as one of Arthur's Knights isn't only a given or likely, it is canon. We saw him become knighted in "Pendragon".

I think as part of Arthur's new role on this "larger stage" will be to take knights of more diversity and international heritage. Griff being a gargoyle is a good first example of this (though we don't neccesarily know that Arthur didn't have any gargoyle knights in the Camelot days). Beyond Griff, I think that Nick "Natsilane", Rory "Cu Chullain", Fara Maku, Tea, Taurus, Beth Maza and Thug are all interesting possibilities. Maybe even Gunther Sturluson after he gets a little older. Probably a lot of Arthur's Knights will be new characters, however. Characters we meet in the Pendragon spinoff.

Ok. How about this. I was looking at the timeline over on gargwiki and I noticed that between the end of season 1 and the start of season 2, around 6 months go by without anything happening. I know this is probably because of the real life span for the seasons, but what do you think everyone was up to? Do you think anyone was going on? Do you think Greg has ideas for what happened inbetween seasons 1 and 2?

There aren't that many movies or television series directly involving Arthur ("Gargoyles" doesn't count, since it featured Arthur as a sort of guest star, though "Pendragon" would have if it had ever been made) that I'd recommend; a lot of the movies struck me as more "medieval pageantry" than a serious attempt at telling the story (though "Excalibur" had some good moments, and I think that the Disney adaptation of "The Sword in the Stone" did a good job of explaining Arthur's ignorance about the Sword in the Stone's true nature, a plothole in Malory). As for television series directly featuring King Arthur, the only one I'd recommend (and it's borderline) is "The Legend of Prince Valiant". It's based on the comic strip rather than directly on the legend, and so Val and his friends (invented characters) are at the center, but it does include King Arthur, Merlin, Sir Gawain, and others as major recurring characters; the opening credits even gave Arthur and Merlin "regular status". (And, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, it includes a few "Gargoyles" voice actors, including Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Arthur and Tim Curry as Sir Gawain - for a change, Curry got to play one of the good guys.) "The Legend of Prince Valiant", incidentally, also features an episode called "The Crossbow" which is almost a medieval version of "Deadly Force".

Watched the final seven episodes of the first season of "Young Justice" on DVD this afternoon, and liked them.
Of course, I'd already learned all the secrets from reviews posted here and at "Ask Greg" - like who the mole was - but it was still fun viewing. A few things that stood out to me:

COLDHEARTED: Another Shakespeare allusion from Greg Weisman, I suspect, having a girl named Perdita in a story set in winter - though "The Winter's Tale" wasn't literally set in winter. I did wonder, though, about school closings being announced for November 11 - they'd be closed anyway, for Veterans' Day. And, of course, the shot of the hospital at Seattle shows the Space Needle in the background, the time-honored tradition of including cities' best-known landmarks in "establishing shots". ("Gargoyles" did the same, with such landmarks as a lot of New York ones - such as the Statue of Liberty - the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey in London, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame in Paris, the cathedral with the Brunelleschi dome in Florence, and the Opera House in Sydney, among others.)

Liked the touch about Wally thinking at first that the little girl died because he stopped to fight with Vandal Savage.

IMAGE: The scene with excerpts from "Hello Megan" on videotape was hilarious - particularly the names of the producers. Also, a hint that the Light have some sort of alliance with Darkseid - which apparently wasn't done much with in Season Two, though I don't know for certain - but please don't tell me. If it wasn't used in that season, it might have gotten into Season Three, if there'd been one.

AGENDAS: I remember comments that past versions of Lex Luthor (such as the one in "The New Batman/Superman Adventures") would be no match for Xanatos, but this one is an exception; definitely cunning and ingenious, particularly how he manipulates Superboy. Including those patches, which seemed like a drug analogy. Trust Greg Weisman to give him that "magnificent bastard" treatment.

I'd read about the Justice League deliberation scene, especially the bit where both Green Lanterns repeatedly, vehemently, and unitedly reject any proposal of a third Green Lantern on the League, which I thought was funny - but the part I laughed at the most was when they were talking about it not being a good idea to have children in the League, and Captain Marvel looks nervous.... And trust Batman to have figured out Captain Marvel's true identity.

INSECURITY: Favorite moment there was the TARDIS cameo. (It's probably a coincidence that Red Tornado's civilian identity was named "John Smith", a name that the Doctor assumes in "Doctor Who" whenever "the Doctor" isn't enough.) Plus the spider-assassin at the start being done as a Spiderman parody - and no doubt a reference back to Greg Weisman's work on "The Spectacular Spider-Man". And the bit where Wolf, instead of warning Superboy and the others if Red Tornado comes back early, curls up and takes a nap - I laughed out loud at that part.

PERFORMANCES: One of the highlights: the allusion to "The War of the Worlds". And the ringmaster figuring out "Dan Daring"'s true identity, with the family feeling between him and Robin. (I assume that "Dan Daring" was a reference to an old comic-book hero I'd vaguely heard of called "Dan Dare" - though all I know of him is the name.)

USUAL SUSPECTS: A good summing-up of the secrets arc, with Superboy, Artemis, and Miss Martian all coming clean about their secrets, on their own. And Luthor continuing to show himself to be almost an "Earth-16" counterpart to Xanatos, in his remark about "Contact my attorney".

Great touch about Red Arrow being the mole all along - a case of "the best disguise for a mole is a mole-hunter". And he didn't even know.

AULD ACQUAINTANCES: Good season finale. The Light had given the feeling about being after something more than conventional world domination, and I liked how they did it, with Vandal Savage's conviction that a team of super-heroes protecting the human race was actually a bad idea - keeping them in the nursery and preventing them from making progress through the disasters they had to face and their own errors.

Black Canary damaging Red Tornado's alternate body was probably one of the most disturbing moments in "Young Justice".

Neat touch about Zatanna trying to remove Dr. Fate's helmet and regain her father, and failing.

I laughed again at Red Tornado's comment about how some human customs still baffle him, when the team all have their kisses at the end.

I really liked the progression of the year in this series. Too bad that we won't get to see that - I assume - in Greg's next series, since "Star Wars" is set in a distant galaxy rather than on Earth - and no doubt on a lot of planets, each one with its own orbit and seasonal cycle different from the others. We might get some of that in "Rain of the Ghosts", though.
Rebel> "I have my doubts about Constance being one of Arthur's knights. I'd love to see it, but she has responsibilities as the second-in-command of the London clan and I doubt she could leave the clan for long trips unless she wanted to relinquish the position."

Well, when you put it that way, I have to admit that does make sense. Being second-in-command would make it a little difficult for her. However, as you pointed out, she could relinquish the position, if only for the period of time during which she'd be gone.

"Griff seems like a given."

Agreed.

"A part of me wants to say that Staghart and Lexington wouldn't join up, because generally a gargoyle wouldn't voluntarily leave his/her clan for an extended period of time, but Angela proves that sometimes they do, so who knows?"

Again, although this would be up for speculation, (much like my last post) I have to agree.

"At the time that Lex goes on his journey, I'm wondering if by that point maybe he's feeling a little out of place with his clan because everyone except him has (or, has had) a mate."

It is a possibility there, but only Greg W. himself could really say for sure, and given his mentality on things like this, he's more likely not to give anything away. Still, I can't help but think that, if Lex's journey isn't KOTRT-related, then something will happen to him to make him take this journey. Uncertain if it'd be something severe or if he just simply wanted to have time to himself. Still, though, I like to picture him spending time with the KOTRT. Who says Lex is ALONE on his journey? Greg W. never did.

"I'm sure there are some human or robot knights as well. Arthur would need a couple of warriors available in the daytime."

You make a good point there. Given the number of humans against automated intelligence, Arthur's daytime recruits would most likely be of flesh and blood origin.

Adam> I can see King Arthur bringing Griff on as a knight, given how well they have worked together in the past. There's a friendship there between the two, which would indicate (to me anyways) that Griff would be the first knight to join in.

Assuming Griff requests for back-up from his clan, Arthur could request Staghart and Coco next. Because, again, he'd worked with them in the past, though not to the same level as Griff. Also, it would be a good way to develop their characters a bit more.

Lexington would be the next potential candidate. On the very real probability that Arthur wouldn't just want to make a new group of KOTRT (Knights Of The Round Table), but make a modernized version of KOTRT that relies on technology (tracking systems, modern weaponry, etc.), who better to have on your team then a technological genius? Greg W. has also said that, in the future, Lex would 'continue his journey' but did not go into detail about why or where. This scenario of Lex being a member of KOTRT could feasibly explain his 'journey'.

Also, Lex would get to spend time with Staghart and we all know he'd be down for that. LOL.

Lastly, I could see MacBeth coming into play. Not as a full-time knight but as an occasional ally for when the situation calls for it. He did promise as such to Arthur at the end of 'Pendragon'.

Ok. Seems kind of slow in the comment room, so I am going to post a couple of discussion topics, both of which are about King Arthur.

1. There are serveral movies and tv series depicting the King Arthur mythology. Which ones do you like and would recommend someone watch.

2. Within the Gargoyles Universe, I think King Arthur will eventually have a new round table with new knights. Who do you think would make good knights and who would you like to see be made a knight? I have always thought that a pre-timedancing Brooklyn would make a good knight.

Warners has burned me with some titles of late-promising content that wasn't there. I'm not comfortable buying without knowing for certain.

KingCobra582, well I heard that the S2V2 DVD is one of the DVDs you have to buy at regular price, so $19.99, and they charge $1.49 to ship to me. And then whatever it costs to ship to your place, plus handling, like the cost of the envelope and such, and then I just charge $1.00 extra for things like using tape, and just for my time. I think that fair. So if you live in the U.S., I would think the total would be under $30.00 for sure. (I am willing to ship outside the U.S. too.) I am thinking of ordering five copies, it will fulfill the requirements of the agreement to the movie club and I'm sure I will be able to sell them to people. I already know that 3 will be taken if you decide to order one from me. So I would really only have two more left to sell. If more then two more people want to buy more from me, I will consider getting more copies from the club, if I can.

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being SEVEN ages.

Number 6 and in total agreement with Chip about those episodes. :D

Be warned, however: in order to attain such a glorious deal, you will be required to purchase FIVE Disney Club DVDs in total. So plan ahead!

First in the name of S2V2!

Though I suppose that should have waited until the next position in the count...

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!
