MATT - Would that be the Schlafly branch?

I'm glad to hear about your donation, though I fear the library might not have kept it; I recently looked up the title "Gargoyles" in the catalogue, and didn't see any sign of the graphic novels, though they did have the Season One and Season Two Part One DVDs. Plus a few books on architectural gargoyles - and a new, intriguing book about gargoyle-like creatures in cryptozoology (the title included a mention of Mothman alongside the gargoyles - from what I've read of Mothman, he sounds like one legendary figure who'd be perfect for "Gargoyles").

CHIP - It's the Cabanne branch of the St. Louis Public Library. (I should add that the St. Louis library on Lindbergh is the headquarters of the St. Louis *County* Library, which is a different entity than the St. Louis Public Library; its headquarters is on Olive Street.)

I COMPLETELY agree (WTF?) with Bishansky... I WOULD KILL for a Rescue Rangers Remastered game... I have both #1 and #2, and I love them to death... two of my favorite games to play as a kid. Also, [I}Darkwing Duck[/I], like Bishansky said, would be amazing. Maybe even Ducktales 2?

This game, Ducktales Remastered, has been a breath of fresh air from all he other crap games developers put out these days. Aside from the Pokemon, Mario Party, Mario Kart and Mega Man games, there isn't much I like.

Sorry for the double post, but:

I've been reading "A History of the World in 100 Objects" by Neil MacGregor (a fascinating book, which I recommend). No. 24 was a set of textile fragments from a place in Peru called Paracas, going back to the 3rd century B.C. They had designs on them depicting a group of humanoid figures with clawed hands and feet, apparently flying.

I wondered whether, in the Gargoyles Universe, those figures could have been gargoyles that once lived in South America (but whose clan clearly didn't survive into modern times; maybe the Incas or the conquistadors wiped them out). They were shown carrying severed heads; I don't know whether (from the Gargoyles Universe's perspective), that would represent hostility towards humans or the local humans' fears that the gargoyles were hostile. Could make a good Timedancing adventure for Brooklyn (assuming that Greg Weisman's read this book, including this section of it).

I'll have to watch "City of Stone" again soon, after my recent rewatching the latter half of Season Two on the new DVD. It's one of my favorite "Gargoyles" stories.

(Which is all the more amazing since usually I don't go for the kind of episode where the protagonists take second place to the antagonists' backstory - but here, I didn't even realize that was going on here until Greg Weisman mentioned that this was why "City of Stone" didn't become a direct-to-video release. Of course, alongside the high drama in Demona and Macbeth's stories that was great in itself, I was already interested in the story of Macbeth - both Shakespeare and history - so I was delighted at discovering that Macbeth was *the* Macbeth.)

How would there be a problem when both Disney and Capcom worked together on DT: Remastered? Actually there is a limited edtion of DuckTales which includes the original game released for the NES.

If you could hit start to skip the cutscenes in "Ducktales Remastered" that would have been better than having to hit start(pause) and then select the skip cutscene option from the menu. It's tedious, annoying, and hinders the flow of gameplay. Also, the quantity of cutscenes is far too many. The designers were given access to the voice actors and went a little too crazy. For example: The Moon - long cut scene to start off before doing anything, walk a few feet, cut scene for the ship to land, climb up rope to the ship, advance two screens, another cut scene! Let me play the game! LOL

@Masterdramon - Hard Pogo was "greyed" out as an option but maybe because easy mode was selected.

I wouldn't say that's necessarily true. Look at the first 3 Tomb Raider games. You can just just hit start and it would automatically go to the next level. No 'Skip Cutscenes' option, just quick cut to black and then loading up the next level.

I can't think of any, but I would guess at least some other games do this as well.

And it's already been stated by Capcom that they may do another "Disney Remastered" video game, if DuckTales sales well. But no hope for Gargoyles Remastered there because this game wasn't made by Capcom but Disney Interactive. I'd bet my money on Darkwing. The Rescue Ranger video game may have been more of a classic than the Darkwing one but imo Darkwing is a lot more popular, especially among DuckTales fans.

Anthony: Not sure exactly what you mean, but I'm playing the Wii U version right at this moment, and Hard Pogo is readily available in the pause menu during gameplay.

And since all the cutscenes are easily skippable and provide more-or-less pure fanservice, I really don't understand why they're getting such heat by certain reviewers.

I hope Rescue Rangers an Darkwing Duck's NES games also get a re-mastering. Especially Darkwing. Maybe this time, Negaduck can be in the game. They added new characters and a new stage to DuckTales, why not?

Hmm... it was a mediocre game, but "Gargoyles - Remastered?" They could easily get Keith David and Marina Sirtis back for it. And, if DuckTales re-mastered is any indication, they could add way more characters as cameos.

I went to look for the PS3 version of Ducktales but couldn't find it... so I downloaded it, and damn is it fun!!! Very cool trowback to the old game, which I had played many many many many many years ago.

This remastered version is fun... I love the cut scenes, every one of them, and the fact that they got the original voice cast back, including 91 year old Alan Young!!!

I've only passed "The Amazon" but I'm having a blast! I hope they reso #2!

I wonder whether Demona would have conflicted feelings over Goliath's death. It's possible that, deep down inside, a part of her still longs for him, even if they could never realistically get back together (I remember that Greg said that Demona "*thinks* she no longer wants Goliath's love" - emphasis mine); indeed, she was clearly delighted when she saw how vengeance-driven he'd become in "Hunter's Moon Part Two".

Certainly, if Goliath was killed by humans, I can imagine Demona being torn by fury over humans having slaughtered another gargoyle with delight at an opponent gone, some buried grief over the death of her ex-mate (though she'd never admit it), and hope that she could exploit this to turn the rest of the clan (or at least, Angela) against humanity.

The rest of the clan's deaths (apart from Angela, of course), she'd be indifferent about. If Thailog died, I suspect that she'd be ready to celebrate (even if she wasn't the one who killed him). Maybe the same with Delilah, whom she probably looks upon as an abomination for combining her DNA with Elisa's.

Oh, sorry for the double post, but I thought I'd mention that my boyfiend and I just got back from a vacation in the Smokey Mountains. On our drive back, we drove through Pidgeon Forge and I spotted the hotel/convention center we had all been at for the Gathering in 2007. It was closed and appears to be under massive renovation. Wind Ceremony> I think Demona would object to Elisa's Wind Ceremony just out of principle. She'd find something wrong with anything concerning the detective, I'm sure.

But really, how much does Demona even care about Wind Ceremonies anymore? She didn't give one to her shattered clan in 994, she dismissed the idea of the Wind Ceremony when True suggested it in 997 and we've seen nothing to suggest it has been important to her since. Actually, she has tried to kill other gargoyles many times.

Just one more example of Demona having lost the Gargoyle Way. Shes becoming more human all the time.

@Todd, I was wondering how many chapters Book 2 was going to be as well. Book One is only 19 and like you said Book Two is on 33 going on 34.

Greg Weisman's biography at Amazon.com wrote "Gargoyles" in all capitals, something it didn't do for any of the other shows he worked on (except "W.I.T.C.H.", and that was probably because its title was an acronym). A good sign of respect for the series.

I got a chance to play it on my friend's Wii U.

Likes: graphics, music, nostalgia factor, little changes from the original
Dislikes: Too many cut scenes, have to play with the GamePad, little changes from the original, easy pogo

I meant to try the hard pogo, but I didn't get a chance to. Also, you can't switch to hard pogo in the Wii U version while you're in the game. I'm guessing it's listed in the pause menu because you can switch in other versions.

There are infinite lives/respawns when you have the game on easy. Also on easy, when you get hurt, you only lose half a heart. When you change the difficulty level you get a finite number of lives and when you get hit it takes a full heart. I'm not sure the difference between normal and hard. I think hard may be a little faster paced at certain parts.

My recommendation - play it at a friend's house or wait for it to decrease in price. I've witnessed the game crashing on people when watching them play on Twitch. Also, when my friend beat the game it crashed on him.

Battle Beast> PC (steam), XBox 360, PS3 and WiiU. It's a download-only game and cost 15$. It's a very short video game, only takes about 3 to 5 hours to beat it the 1st time. But it has a nice replay value and you can unlock lot's of artwork, concept art... Even from the original TV series. I'd suggest watching some gameplay footage first.

According to Greg's latest update, the second book in the "Rain in the Ghosts" series has at least thirty-four chapters (he just finished Chapter Thirty-three, and will start on Chapter Thirty-four next).

I wonder how long it'll be when it's completed, though we don't know the average length of the chapters.

Battle Beast: It's out for digital download now on the Playstation Network, Wii U eShop, and Steam. A retail version also came out today for the PS3. And it will come to Xbox Live Arcade on September 11.

All versions, as far as I know, cost $15.

Currently playing through the Wii U version myself. Speaking as a guy who never played the original, it's pretty damn fun.

Come to think of it, according to the Gargoyles Timeline, Jackal, Hyena, and Wolf's big fight with the clan at the end of "Clan-Building" was in January, though on the 10th (in 1997, the full moon in January fell on the 23rd).

And the full moon in January is called the Wolf Moon, which could mean a Pack attack in winter.

The other full moons:

FEBRUARY: The Snow Moon or Hunger Moon.

MARCH: The Worm Moon.

APRIL: The Pink Moon.

MAY: The Flower Moon.

JUNE: The Strawberry Moon. (Perhaps mutant strawberry plants attack the clan then, and Brooklyn comments, "They're right; genetically-modified foods *are* getting out of hand.")

JULY: The Buck Moon (let's hope Staghart doesn't have an evil twin somewhere) or the Thunder Moon.

SEPTEMBER: The Harvest Moon.

Tonight is the night of the Sturgeon Moon, a nickname for the full moon in August, just as the full moon in October is called the Hunter's Moon. Let's hope that Goliath and his clan don't have any run-ins with giant sturgeon this night. :)

At the end of "Blink" (the episode that introduced the Weeping Angels into "Doctor Who") there's a sequence where the camera shows lots of statues while the Doctor's repeating his "don't blink" warning by voice-over, and one of the first of those statues is a gargoyle.

(Though this scene was fun to write, I don't think "Doctor Who" would be that compatible with "Gargoyles" - even aside from their being owned by different properties - since the past can be changed in "Doctor Who", though it's not easy - or advisable. One arc even involved a set of time-cracks which completely wipe out of existence anything that falls into them; it ceases not only to exist, but to have ever existed, and is wiped from everyone's memories (apart from time travelers like the Doctor). I have a strong suspicion that almost everyone who read this last part is now fantasizing about dropping every copy, negative, and script for "The Goliath Chronicles" down one of those time-cracks. :) )

Two Quarrymen climb to the roof of a building somewhere in Manhattan, in the late afternoon. "I saw them here," says the first one.

"Are you sure they're gargoyles?" asks the second Quarryman, looking at the statues on the rooftop. "They look way too human, and the wings are feathered, not bat-like."

"I've heard that there are gargoyles with feathered wings over in London," says the first Quarryman. "Maybe some of those monsters came over here. Besides, I know that those statues weren't here yesterday. What else could they be but gargoyles?"

"Then we'd better act quickly, before they wake up," says the second Quarryman. "It's almost sunset."

Both Quarrymen raise their hammers, ready to smash the statues. But they blink for a moment.

The hammers fall to the ground with a thud. The Quarrymen have disappeared. But the angel statues have not. They still stand on the roof - but in not quite the same positions and poses as before....

Yeah, Goliath receiving a Wind Ceremony makes the most sense. I think Greg said Elisa receive one, too.

As for Demona... as a joke, I once wrote her reaction to Elisa receiving a Wind Ceremony. It was... about what you'd expect.

Here's the problem with most fanfic writers: they seem to think Dominique is a second life. It isn't. Demona spelled it plainly in "High Noon." She's a gargoyle. Dominique is just a tool to help her in her goals. She'll use the form because she changes into a human, whether she likes it or not, but Dominique is not another life for her.

I think Goliath would be more likely to have a Wind Ceremony; he's still a gargoyle, not a human, and making peace with the humans shouldn't mean the gargoyles becoming "humans with wings" (I can imagine Greg Bishansky having a lot to say on this subject).

I do suspect that Elisa would get a Wind Ceremony when she died, but because she was part of the clan, and the gargoyles saw her as such. (I'd like to see Demona's response to that. If nothing else would drive her up the wall, that would.)

Has anyone played DuckTales: Remastered? I really like that game and it's amazing they got all the voice actors back, even though some of them are like over 90 years old! I hope this sells well for Disney/Capcom and makes Disney see some money in their Disney Afternoon properties... well deserved money...

Now back to Gargoyles...
We know Goliath dies before Gargoyles 2198. And we know Gargoyles hold wind ceremonies when one of them dies. Now Goliath likely is the most influential and respected Gargoyle when it comes to the Humans <-> Gargoyles relationship and he'll probably set the first steps to peace betweens Gargoyles and Humans. Do you think Goliath would consider a "human funeral" (which doesn't exist because funerals are different all over the world, but you get the idea) for himself? Wouldn't this be the ultimate proof that he really wanted Gargoyles and Humans live in peace, even after his death? Imagine that funeral broadcasted on TV worldwide. Elisa gets a wind ceremony, Goliath a human funeral? But then I wonder: Where would his grave be? How would they keep it save from desecration?

The again... Burning and spreading the remains of dead humans is not that unusual either. I've seen some funerals where the ashes would be spread with the wind and into the ocean...
