THanks, Ross! Really glad you liked it.

And, yes, a review on Amazon would be most welcome! I'm told they make a huge difference, and there are still (as of last night at least) none up there!

Greg Weisman

Welp, just finished Spirits of Ash and Foam yesterday. I'd like to put up a decently-sized, well-written review at some point, but quick, initial thoughts?

Well, I liked Rain of the Ghosts. I loved this.

When I finished reading Rain for the first time I was intrigued for more of this series. Now I'm actively excited for it. I'll try to articulate my thoughts and leave a review on Amazon or somewhere soon, because I am now convinced on more than just Greg Weisman's name power that this is a series that deserves attention. If you haven't checked it (or Rain of the Ghosts) out yet, I give it a strong recommendation.

Now bring on Masque of Bones!

Thanks, Del! I like the word flight, so I'll stick with that. And yes, Todd Jensen, I can just hear Hudson saying, "Must you humans name everything?"

Whew, my story is posted now. I would appreciate any feedback or comments. ^_^

Not to say that wouldn't work for a story, but you should realize what you're doing. :)

According to Wikipedia, http://goo.gl/SeYA1a - "The tradition of using 'terms of venery' or 'nouns of assembly'--collective nouns that are specific to certain kinds of animals--stems from an English hunting tradition of the Late Middle Ages."

I looked that up when I wondered why there's no term for a group of humans. We're not hunted animals in that sense. Creating a term of venery for gargoyles might be a bit ghoulish and ironic considering their relationship to humans and hunters over the millennia.

I have an image of Hudson wondering why humans need to come up with special terms for a group of gargoyles (beyond "clan") at all.

Hufflepuffs are really good finders

Animal groups range from being aptly named to outright bizarre. Case in point: an army of caterpillars, a mob of kangaroos, an unkindness or storytelling of ravens.
Personally I think a lurking of gargoyles would be a good name.

@Bailey You could maybe go with flight. A number of different birds, and butterflies apparently, are called a flight when airborne. Clan would probably still work in most cases, as historically a group of gargoyles gliding together would most likely be from the same clan. It's also possible that they would simply be called gargoyles, no matter whether they were airborne or not.

<<Since gargoyles have wings and are smart, like owls>>

Actually, that's just a myth. Owls aren't smart... at all.

I like gaggle myself, gotta love alliteration.

Interestingly, the name for an animal group can change depending on whether the group is on the ground or in the air.

Obviously, on the ground, it's a massacre of gargoyles.

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

@Bailey, you can search the archives, but personally I didn't see anything after a quick search. Maybe you can use herd, band, horde, or colony, whichever sounds better to you. Since gargoyles have wings and are smart, like owls, you could go with a "parliament". :)

Hello! I'm a long time Gargoyles fan, first time poster here. I met a bunch of people at CONvergence two weeks ago. Shout out to Kaylee, Momosa, Idril-fay, Bowie, and Lynn. It was awesome to hang out with you all!

I'm *almost* finished with my first Gargoyles fanfic, and I have a silly question. I asked Greg on twitter, but he couldn't remember. ;-P

What do you call a group of flying Gargoyles? A flock? Gargoyles aren't birds, so I assume there's a different name for a group of Gargoyles. It can't be "clan" because the Gargoyles could be unrelated.

Greg thinks he's answered this question before, but can't remember what the answer is.
