If BOOM! is starting another Darkwing Duck comics line, that's huge news. As I recall, Disney seemed to lose interest in licensing their properties around the time they were buying Marvel. BOOM! was interested in pursuing Gargoyles at the time, but Disney stopped responding. If BOOM! starts up Darking Duck, could Gargoyles be on the way?

My guess is they're continuing the comic series that BOOM! started in 2010. A new TV show would be awesome, but I doubt they can make it for next year. I think no one could think of anything to say after Harlan and Greg's exchange, which, by the time it was ended, summed things up for now. The best way to keep the room going is to have posts that encourage responses rather than posts which say everything you can say on the subject so that there's no point in commenting further on it. (Kind of like the difference between the endings to "Hunter's Moon" and "Angels in the Night".)

Pardon for double posting, but it's worth noting, Loren, that the post you link doesn't indicate Weisman doesn't recognize the term "Lost Race." He's very specifically questioning the Zeroth name (as am I, must be before my time) and is probably opting to just not answer the question. Your quest for its origins may play better with that read in mind; nothing about the link seems to indicate he's unfamiliar with the term "Lost Race" at that point in time.

So I stumbled across mention of the 'Lost Race' for the first time, but it's left me a bit confused. Because while the Wiki links to a few of Greg's answers about them, I can't seem to figure out where/how they were initially hinted at.

Presumably the notion preexisted the question, but where? Greg later OKed the "Lost Race" label in a September 2000 post, and answered several questions about them.

But where does this aspect of the mythos originate? In some dialogue in an episode? In an earlier comment from Greg himself?

Some people are natural risk takers (hell, Philippe Petit tightroped across the Twin Towers). Xanatos doesn't strike me as being paranoid... and both plans did work out for him.

Keep in mind, he didn't break a sweat when being held over the edge of a skyscraper... and don't say he had a means of surviving, you don't know that.

Xanatos really seems to like pulling the gambit where he stages an attack on a target, but in actuality wants the attack to fail for the sake of his other plans. See "Her Brother's Keeper" or the Stone of Destiny story.

But in each of those cases, the execution seems rather lacking. Jackal and Hyena were flat out told to kill Xanatos, and they came very close on more than one occasion. It seems like an absurd amount of risk, especially since the reward for the plan's success is rather small.

In the case of the Stone of Destiny, he sent a Steel Clan, an Iron Clan, Coldsteel and Coyote. That's a ton of firepower; it seems that it was only by a bare margin that they didn't manage to steal the stone outright.

1. During part one of "The Gathering" episode of the Gargoyles series, there was a hooded figure and another male figure standing next to the two cyclopes where the Children of Oberon were paying fealty to Oberon himself. I know they were most likely Children of Oberon, but who are they exactly?
