I vaguely recall "Night of the Gargoyles" being one of the books being read to smaller children at the Gathering (another, which I'm more certain on, was "God Bless the Gargoyles", another children's picture book - more poignant, though. In it, the gargoyles once built to guard churches are now scorned and hated by humans and are saddened by it, until a flock of angels comes down to comfort them). Can anyone who's been to more Gatherings than I have (I only attended the 2001 Gathering) confirm that?

Apparently "Night of the Gargoyles" was published in 1999, I would not be surprised if the show had some influence on the story.

When I visited the library today, I noticed a children's picture book in the "books for sale" section called "Night of the Gargoyles" by Eve Bunting. It's a light-hearted story about a group of gargoyles coming to life at night and frolicking about the old building (apparently a museum) where they roost in the daytime. They also have some fun spooking the night watchman (who's probably the counterpart to Vinnie in that world), who tries telling his boss about living gargoyles, but naturally isn't believed.

Having three father doesn't make Thailog much different from other gargoyles, who raise their young communally.

What is odd about Thailog in relation to other gargoyles is that he doesn't consider anyone his mother.

It certainly makes a change to have the Bastard's biological mother be uncertain, rather than the father. (And Greg's made use of the ambiguous paternity with his Bastards - such as Thailog having three fathers.)

So I was recently doing some research on the historical Vlad Tepes for a fic I'm writing and I stumbled on an interesting factoid...

Apparently there is debate as to the identity of Vlad's biological mother. Though his father, Vlad Dracul, was married to Princess Cneajna of Moldavia at the time of Vlad Jnr birth, he was also known to have kept a number of mistresses. Legitimacy was apparently not a requirement for inheriting the Wallachian throne, only that the heir be "of the male royal bone".

Which makes me wonder how well the historical Dracula fits the archetype of the Weismanian Bastard?

Last evening, I posted a mention of a PBS program shortly to air, a documentary about Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, that featured some material about the Stone of Destiny. To my surprise, the program immediately following it (the series finale of "Inspector Lewis") featured a guest appearance from David Warner (the voice of the Archmage).
