I once came across a saying about translation being a form of betrayal (I can't remember the exact phrasing). This all sounds like the kind of thing that must have inspired that saying.

Unlikely, given that while the game is old enough, the meme didn't go viral until early 2001 and somehow, I don't see Oberon being that familiar with video games in general, much less legendarily poorly-translated ones.
Yes, I know that's not the point.

Now I'm picturing Oberon attacking the Eyrie Building shouting, "All your base are belong to us!"

Ross, that's awesome. Thanks for sharing. My favorite part (I literally laughed out loud):
Then, during the rest of the game we live in Manhattan!
Some advocate night!
Download Gargoyles!

Ten!
So I was playing around on Google Translate, and decided to put the Gargoyles opening narration through a few rounds. Here's what I ended up with:
More than a thousand years ago superstition "brand.
It was a dark period. Fear world.
This year was downloaded Gargoyles.
Stone warriors night,
We have been betrayed promises protection
Sindhu Rock Millennium Magic game.
Then, during the rest of the game we live in Manhattan!
Some advocate night!
Download Gargoyles!
...Gargoyles has become Yu-gi-oh, apparently.

MATTHEW - Yes, I've noticed both.
The D'Aulaires' "Norse Gods and Giants" (the first book of Norse mythology that I read, and still one of my favorite) made the ninth world Gimle, a sort of post-Ragnarok Heaven - but they're the only ones who took that approach.

If going by the Marvel adaptation of Norse cosmology the ninth would be Svartalfheim, home of the the dark or swarthy elves. In modern interpretation it's often combined with Nidavellir due to the common interpretation that dwarves and dark elves were the same.
By that same reasoning Niflheim is often combined with the Norse Hel or Helheim because in one of the stories Odin cast the goddess Hel into Niflheim where it became her and the dishonored dead's dwelling.

Asgard, Midgard, Vanaheim, Jotunheim, Nidavellir, Alfheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, and whatever the ninth world was (the Norse myths don't agree on that last one, and I've decided not to cast my vote on it).
