Algae> It's going to be a recurring gag that my character thinks that actors who are typecast as villains are secretly evil.
Clancy Brown's just the beginning, wait until I get to David Warner and Tim Curry.

In all seriousness thought, good review. Despite your warnings I didn't find it overly lenghty at all.

Greg B> Awesome, thanks! Welp, looks like I've got my reading list for the next...year. ;)

Algae> Looking forward to seeing what you guys have come up with.

Speaking of changing online handles...Not sure I post here often enough that it really necessitates an announcement, but what the heck: I'm switching to the handle I use elsewhere on the interwebz. I honestly can't remember why I chose to use a different one when I first posted on here way back when, but whatever my reasons I don't feel that way anymore, so...yeah. (And no, there weren't 35 other Chiropters, I just needed to get in a Gargoyles reference somehow. ;))

You guys have you seen this?! https://youtu.be/r3_26h4rxds

Why don't we do the same with gargoyles comics?? #WeWantGargoylesComics!

ROSS> Glad you've been enjoying the Age of Gargoyles. I should warn, I recently simplified my online handle if you're having trouble tracking down an my stories.

There should be a link to my FF.net profile in my tag.

Enjoy. ;)

...Four, I think?

Question for anyone contributing to the interconnected Gargoyles fanfics mentioned last week: is there by any chance a list/reading order of the works so far? I was keeping up with them a while ago, but then I got distracted with other things, and now I'd like to get back into them but I can't quite remember where I left off, and in any event I'd like to skim through the earlier ones just to refresh my memory of what's been going on.

Matthew> Thanks for the link to the second half teaser, I hadn't seen that yet!
Looking forward to seeing Waller again; always liked her brief but memorable appearance in Season 1. And Black Manta vs. Tigress, that's gonna be fun.
Karrin Blue>
I had actually forgot about the mental conditioning done by the Shadows. Considering Tara's youth and that she was kidnapped at a young and impressionable age, maybe all they needed to control her were the right words. And yes, the possibility of her becoming an independent agent has entered my mind. Like I said, I doubt they'll do a complete retelling of "The Judas Contract."

Now I feel I should clear some things up, now you may think that it was a bit of a stretch for the Light to dangle the information about Tara but the Light has always worked under the "all warfare is based on deception" frame of mind. Remember this show is helmed by Greg Weisman, the man who codified the Xanatos Gambit. I mean in season 1 they purposefully leaked the information about a mole to throw the team off and cast suspicion elsewhere. The Light even went as far as attempting to assassinate Forager just to confirm that Nightwing had set up a new team and determine who was a part of it. And as for the clockwork precision, also remember that Vandal Savage knew exactly when and where was the best place to intercept whichever speedster would be delivering the heart. It's been consistently shown that the villains are adapt at planning things out for nearly every possible variable, they have to be when one of their opponents is the world's greatest detective.

Also, I wasn't suggesting that they planted the goggles specifically for Beast Boy. The fact that he used them and was able to escape their brainwashing was an unforeseen circumstance. No, what I'm suggesting is that the night where the Outsiders freed Tara and the other gladiators was at the same time the Justice League and the team (no confirmation yet whether Batman Inc. also participated in the raids) is too well coordinated for the Light to see as a coincidence. That level of coordination implies cooperation. Plus Brion has made it quite clear to Ra's that he was searching for his sister and Ra's is still keeping in contact with the Light, who's to say Ra's didn't feed that little tidbit to his colleagues?

Of course I could be wrong about all of this, but watching Greg's stuff has taught me to adopt a Machiavellian mindset when trying to guess the plot. And as for the notion that Dr. Jace had a daughter? I think it was the wording she used about how she had a little girl once, ordinarily one doesn't use a personal possessive verb when referring to someone else's child.
KARRIN BLUE>
I had not considered that Dr. Jayce's "little girl" was meant to be an allusion to Tara, but it tracks.
Algae
Huh, people think that Dr Jace's 'little girl' was her daughter? I took that to mean she was referring to Tara during her time as DeLamb's prisoner. I'm still doubtful that Tara's working for Deathstroke entirely of her own accord, Judas contract style - I mean, for one thing, we just saw alternate mind control methods in use by the Branchwater syndicate, and in the tie-in comics we saw that Ra's had some sort of mental conditioning control over all the Shadows, including near-washouts like Clayface. If that ability's passed to Slade, then that might have some repercussions. And, that aside, I don't think we can rule out that Tara's playing some other game, or assume that she's 100 percent loyal to Slade - maybe she's trying to play him and establish herself as her own agent, maybe she doesn't care about heroic ideals but doesn't want to dance to the Light's tune either, maybe she explained the entire situation to the grown-ups after she was rescued and they decided to use the opportunity to start feeding Slade and the Light fake intel and useless information. It's all up in the air at this point.

Anyways, I sort of doubt that that information about Tara was planted - it would pretty much have to mean that Deathstroke timed his entrance to be when they landed on the island, that they prepped Cassandra to ask about Tara ahead of time, and that they knew - somehow - that Garfield would try on a pair of goggles intended for Perdita, and also somehow not fall under the mind control, or die trapped in the illusion, and that the League would plan their raid for that one specific night when Tara was on the auction block, and that someone would notice that one item in one spot out of probably hundreds of depots might have been Tara and then pass that onto Team Exiles. There's way too many moving parts unless they've already got another agent inside the League to keep them updated and steer the heroes in the right direction. Usually the Light's plans aren't built to account for everyone's choices, they're made so that no matter what choice the heroes make, at least one of the Light's goals will be accomplished. My guess is, Slade originally meant for Tara to be bought by and infiltrate a Court of Owls, uh, nest? flock? whatever - and spy on them in preparation for the group to be subsumed into the Light.
S3 ep.13-True Heroes
You know back in season one we had a full blown ghost story for the Halloween episode, and now we've got a trapped-in-the-house-pursued-by-a-stalker story. Makes me wonder what they'll do if they ever revisit October 31st. Also got a hint of a backstory for Dr. Jace, I guess the reason she's so motherly towards the Outsiders is because she lost her own daughter. Another little detail I missed at first, though Halo seems to entirely be a new person she still seems to keep her old live's religious code about not showing her hair in public. And I'm still left wondering what remains of Gabrielle Daou and what's made up of the Mother Box. Honestly though if I had one complaint is that I felt that Victor struggling with his Father Box impulses could've been a longer character arc for him. The way he's now been permanently cleansed seems a little to quick and neat.

And we've got a meta-human fight club. When I heard that this season was going to be about meta-human trafficking I figured we'd get a story like this. Masked spectators (wearing Court of Owls styled masks, what does that mean for the future?) watching a modern day gladiator games. Makes me wonder how many other "fight clubs" like these exist, and whether the combatants are lucky enough to merely be sold to the highest bidder or whether these games go to the death.

Nice touch for Brion to question what they know and how they know it and Black Lightning to ask whether they're working with the League. That little bit of suspicion shows that Brion's showing some caution and not just rushing in on hints and rumors, nice bit of growth. Though I do wonder if BL starts to question the convenience of this shared information like that "tip" and the fact that they were apparently "given" the Bialya job.

And for the big reveal. As I predicted Tara isn't under mind control and seems to be working for the on her own free will. I imagine we'll get a proper reveal for her motivations later on. But that does bring to mind something else. As of this point we've already had two adaptations of "The Judas Contract," once done by the Teen Titans cartoon and once by the New 52 style movies. I sincerely doubt they'll do another adaptation like the others (considering Beast Boy's already in a pretty healthy relationship with Perdita) and it's not Greg's style to do complete retellings of other works or at least not without some variation to the story.

But all of this brings up a rather scary implication (and no I'm not talking about the implication that Terra and Deathstroke are a couple like in the comics). Rather the Light has most likely known that the Outsiders were searching for Tara since the incident on Infinity Island and that Ra's is still communicating with his former colleagues. And then there's comment from Bane about how no one gets in or out of Santa Prisca without him knowing, and that same mission where Batman learned where Tara was being taken. I have this suspicion that that little bit of information was dangled out and the heroes took the bait. And the Outsiders managed to rescue Tara using information gathered by Batman Inc. on the same night that the League raided the rest of the meta-human depots? They pretty much have all the information they need to confirm that the three teams are in contact with each other. And now with the connection made between the Goode Goggles, Granny Goodness and the trafficking, there's the chance that Bruce Wayne may use his position as a business partner to Goode World to get in even further, and since the Light is well aware of the League's secret identity they'll probably expect that.
Honestly, something in my gut tells me that Tara being a mole for Deathstroke is just the tip of the iceberg, and that all of our heroes may be walking into a trap.
And now to cover the second half teaser as seen here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FYG64GeDx0

I promise this will be shorter.
Well it looks like Beast Boy's definitely coming back on the team. And not only that but Amanda "The Wall" Waller's back and leading the Suicide Squad. Not only that but it sounds like she's figured out some of the inner workings of the hero's secret cooperation. Plus it's good to see some of the fallen members of the Light back. Especially Black Manta after season 2.
TEN. (feeling countdown-y)

Wanted to also bring up that after having a bit of an itch to do some Avalon-calendar math (something I've never really done before -- I've usually just deferred to the real numbers-experts around here, so when I finally did, I made an effort to confirm my numbers with 2001-era posts, particularly those asked by Aris Katsaris back in the day), but next summer, not this (i.e., July 2020) will be the one-year (Avalon time) anniversary of the Oberon's Gathering.

We still have a 25th anniversary for the series to celebrate in some form in 2019, but I don't know, it's cool that next year we also have a pretty unique excuse to get-together as well (especially since the two-year mark on Avalon won't be till 2024).
