Best wishes on that project, Bishansky.

So I've been engaged in a project to upgrade all of the screenshots on GargWiki with much cleaner, higher quality images. So far, I've done exactly 190... but man, there's just so many left. I have no idea how long this is going to take.

I am well aware that there are other issues and glitches on GargWiki that need fixing, I am hoping that it happens soon. Unfortunately, I don't have an ETA for that. But I am hoping that we'll soon bring GargWiki into 2020.

Greg Bishansky

Hi Mr. Weisman. I have a question for you:

I don't know if you are aware, but in the "Early Warning" episode of Whelmed: The Young Justice Files (back in Oct. 2019) the host quoted you on something you told him in conversation. This is something that used to happen now and then, but lately it happens in almost every episode: "Greg texted me this", "Brandon emailed me that", "Greg/Brandon told me whatever", etc.

So, looking at your 2-year-4-month-and-7-day backlog of 1209 questions, I'm wondering: why are you giving BTS information to this one person while the rest of your fanbase has to submit questions and wait months (at least) or YEARS (worst case and more likely scenario) for an answer???? It must be really cool to be so intimate and chummy with one's idol, and I bet the host feels super important and validated, but this is some double standard bullshit!

Are you aware of this? And if you are, how can you be okay with it? Don't you think this is unfair? You have thousands of fans who support your work whichever way they can, but 99.9% of them have never even met you in person, let alone exchanged emails or text messages with you.

If I make an entire podcast dedicated to kissing your asses, will I earn the same privileges? Will I be able to ask all my questions without a waiting queue? Will I get to hang out with you, have lunch together or exchange personal contacts?

(Originally I posted this on AskGreg, but then I decided I shouldn't have to wait 2 years for an answer, for all the reasons above.)

Jordan

Could someone delete this question of mine, please?
https://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=25119

It starts with "I pity you", but that was because I was writing something else in the same document (a personal story of mine). I'm not saying I pity Greg.

I resubmitted another question without that opener.

Would apreciate if the version that doesn't have that "pity" thing would remain. Thanks!

Don't have much merch. I do have one of the T-shirts Greg gave away at the 2002 Gathering, but it eventually was too worn down to wear anymore, so we made it part of a quilt.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

My Gargoyles merch:

2 copies of every DVD and 2 copies each of the SLG trade paperbacks. I also have 1 copy of each of the SLG comics when they originally came out.

I only have one unusual piece of Gargoyles merch. I have a Where's Waldo style book but based in Gargoyles.

Adam

Chip> Nah, wear it, just bring $5 each for Greg and Chris for your personal licensing fee.

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

I usually just lurk, but...here goes it for me and Gargoyles merch.

Hot Topic Tee...is actually falling apart, don’t wear it much anymore
Many but not all of the Kenner Figures. I’m most pleased with “Griffin Goliath” since that’s the closest thing to a Griff Action figure I’ll probably ever get,
One Applause Broadway
Funko Pop Goliath, Angela, And Bronx (World Tour!)
The SLG Comics
One Funko Pop Demona Keychain (Actually attached to my Keychain)
DVDs, all three volumes.
A couple Gargoyles books.
One T-Shirt that was a gift, but clearly used stolen artwork from Chris Jones never published Joe Books Cinestory cover. (I’m honestly embarrassed by that one, no WAY Chris Jones nor Disney gave permission for the artwork to be used that way, but it was a gift from a family member who knew I love Gargoyles, so it’s a very thoughtful gift nonetheless. I won’t be caught dead wearing it at a con with Chris Jones or Greg Weisman present)
And on the opposite end of that spectrum, I’ve been snagging several of the new “Officially Licensed” Gargoyles tees that have been appearing on Amazon lately. I’ve been very pleased by their existence (I’ve snagged four designs so far) and it makes me happy to get them in the mail and see the Disney logo inside the shirt collar, knowing that it’s a legit merch. (Although one of the shirts has a Marvel logo instead of a Disney one,,,what’s up with that?). I highly recommend you guys hit Amazon and type in “Officially Licensed Gargoyles Shirts” if you haven’t gotten some yet,

Todd> No problem. Be sure and post about them if you come across the others; maybe we can help you track down replacements and/or refresh your memory on the one you've forgotten.

BRAINIAC - I'm not sure what those cards were now. It's been a while since I last saw them, and I can't remember where I currently keep the ones that weren't stolen. Thanks for your kind words, by the way.
Todd Jensen

Since I forgot to mention, I'm currently working on a review of "Her Brother's Keeper" for my blog that I'm hoping will be done by the end of the month. Plus I'm currently binging Clone Wars in preparation for the final season so I won't be covering any more Spectacular Spider-Man until next week.

Phoenician> Indeed there was (and it was still listed as available at the last event): http://www.convergence-con.org/wp-origin/uploads/2013/11/2014-CVG-Merch021.jpg

There was also an Gargoyles-based shirt for the Geek Partnership Society's Project Lighthouse, a charitable group affiliated with CONvergence, that used a certain quote you're likely familiar with. And yes, both are in my closet.

In addition to those, I have the comics & trades, all three DVD sets (my S2V2 is the Disney Movie Club version), the shirts for the last two Gatherings (which I attended), and one of the many (un)official t-shirts which was a collectible gift (and is way too small for me anyway). I also have a lot of autographs on the DVDs and comics (the only autograph on any of the trades is Wendy Pini).

I also downloaded the source code for the Gargoyles video game when it was made public some time ago if that counts (along with the early prototype of the cancelled SNES version). I'm tempted to do something with that one of these days, though it has to be non-commercial, obviously.

Todd> Sorry to hear about that loss. Any idea what sort of cards they were (I presume they weren't Skybox)?

After last evening, I remembered a few other pieces of "Gargoyles" merchandise I'd had once but forgot about. In 1997, I sent a letter to Disney about the upcoming end of "Gargoyles", and they sent me three "Gargoyles" cards. I forget what one of them was like, but the second was a large card showing Goliath standing on a building and, on the back, some promotional text, and the third was one of those cards where the picture changes if you tilt it a certain way, changing from Goliath in stone sleep to Goliath bursting out of his stone shell.

My apartment was burglarized in 2007, and since I never saw a couple of the cards after that, I think they were stolen. It's been a long time since I thought of them.

I still have my DVDs and the Gathering VHS box (which I got autographed by Greg) lost the attached board game years ago. I also used to have a few action figures like Broadway and Brooklyn with the motorbike.

"A copy of every DVD release (so I double-dipped on the two different releases of Season Two, Volume Two), the three Slave-Labor Trade Paperbacks, plus the corresponding twelve issues that were released."

I should have listed those, of course I have all of that, too. Including both S2V2 releases.

"A Gargoyles pin from the Disney Store's 12 Months of Magic, courtesy of the 2009 Gathering (and hoo boy, while googling in an effort to figure out its age, this might be the most rare/valuable thing I have)."

Got it! I need to look into how much it's going for.

"But, my favorite prize in my haul is a Goliath READ Poster from the American Library Association. I really need to get that framed one day. :)"

Awesome! I have two Goliath posters, myself. I'll have to photograph them.

I also have an animation cel of Demona and Brooklyn at the Cloisters from "Temptation". I am shopping around for more cels. Some day...

My Gargoyles Merch:

A copy of every DVD release (so I double-dipped on the two different releases of Season Two, Volume Two), the three Slave-Labor Trade Paperbacks, plus the corresponding twelve issues that were released.

The 1995 Kenner Steel Clan and Bronx (but without the silly flying contraption it came with, lol). Other Kenner figures I used to have included Hudson, Broadway, Xanatos (gray armor), and a couple Goliaths, but in all honesty I'm not sure where they are, though I'm positive I never gave them away, I should dig them up . . .

A Gargoyles pin from the Disney Store's 12 Months of Magic, courtesy of the 2009 Gathering (and hoo boy, while googling in an effort to figure out its age, this might be the most rare/valuable thing I have).

The only other vintage items I've collected as an adult is a complete set of the SkyBox collector cards as well as a Panini Sticker book (no stickers, I'm afraid). Oh, and the four Danglers from Applause that I converted to Christmas Tree ornaments (really wish the rest of the Manhattan clan got included).

I have both Hot Topic's original Goliath T-Shirt from 2008 and their black tie-dye Gargoyles T-Shirt from 2019. Relatedly, I bought and still have the 2008 and 2009 Gathering convention T-Shirts (2008 on discount, but I love that one in particular, I really wish I made it to the Chicago Gathering, when in a few years time I was regularly visiting the city at least once a year while my kid brother attended college there). Was there a 2014 shirt for CONvergence? Can't remember at the moment, I feel like that would have been a natural souvenir.

Closing up, I've nabbed every figure Funko Popped out in 2018 (and in lieu of a better quality picture, they currently serve as a photo on the corresponding GargWiki page d: )

But, my favorite prize in my haul is a Goliath READ Poster from the American Library Association. I really need to get that framed one day. :)

BISHANSKY - The same. (The lions' cage, to be precise.) It also called Owen "Mr. Owen".
Todd Jensen

TODD> Is that the one that ends with Xanatos being locked in a cage at the zoo?

Also, for those who haven't seen them and are interested, here's the current display of custom figures (with some officials mixed in): https://66.media.tumblr.com/45e684e7fe980188bc6cebb68a34a31e/c47801e1078c58bf-f3/s1280x1920/978e1f7e881fb2841c50adad6ee3acc7303928b7.png

My "Gargoyles" merchandise is confined to the DVDs and the Slave Labor Graphics comics. (I used to have a little booklet that told a "Gargoyles" story and let you stamp pictures of the characters into the scenes, but I donated it to the 2001 Gathering.)
Todd Jensen

Ninth!

In an effort to liven up some discussion here, what do you own in the way of Gargoyles merchandise?

I have all of the 3 inch PVC figurines as well as the larger Applause figures. While the Kenner figures aren’t the best, I used to have all of them and most got lost in a move. But they still have a charm to them, sure they’re not like the better sculpted and super articulated figures of today, but there’s still a charm. I still have the Demona and recently acquired (again) the armored Xanatos… the red version, naturally. And I just purchased the Stone Armor Goliath on ebay… again, I used to have one and I still think that’s the best of the Goliaths. I plan to slowly acquire the rest… at least one of each character, I don’t need the weird variants. I do have the Kenner castle, which I use on my shelf of custom figures as a backdrop.

And, of course, I have all of the Funko Pop Gargoyles save for some of the stone variants. Goliath, Hudson, Brooklyn, Broadway, Lexington, Angela, Bronx, and Demona. Plus the Demona and Goliath key chains. I purchased a second Funko Demona and she’s on my desk here at work.

I have the Electric Tiki Goliath statue which is still a beautiful piece despite some of the chips the thing has acquired over the decade.

Not to mention all of the various Radio Play scripts across multiple Gatherings. I have a printed copy of an older version of the Series Bible (not the finalized version that’s already there) where Bronx is referred to as a Gargoyle Dog rather than a Beast, and Derek Maza is the oldest sibling with Elisa as the middle child (wouldn’t that have changed their dynamic?)

I also received a Gargoyles press kit for Christmas that dates back to 1994 and 1995. Very cool.

And finally, my growing collection of custom action figures that I’ve commissioned from Anthony’s Customs Demona (who was recently re-done with a new paintjob, new wings, tail, gun, and an entirely new head sculpt), Goliath, Elisa Maza, Angela (in her SLG outfit), David Xanatos (business suit), Fox (Pack costume), Macbeth, Hunter (Robyn Canmore in her Redemption Squad uniform), Thailog (in full armor!), and Shari (the SLG comic). I mixed in Applause Hudson, Broadway, and Kenner Lex and Bronx since they are in scale. My next commission will be Brooklyn to fill that hole… after that, who knows? Xanatos’s armor, a Steel Clan robot, the Weird Sisters, Owen Burnett, Upgraded Jackal and Hyena are on my list. We’ll see.

Greg Bishansky

8th, I think.

Hi Mr Jordan,

I have a question for you.

Did you know that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

Did you know that the people in this CR already answered your question AND told you that Greg would NEVER answer it here because of your sense of entitlement?

How can you be okay with this?
Are you insane or just stupid? Is it both?

MASTERDRAMON - I'm glad you're enjoying it. And, yes, those commentary breaks were some of my favorite parts in the book, too.
Todd Jensen

Mary Jekyll, Diana Hyde, Beatrice Rappaccini, Catherine Moreau, Justine Frankenstein...and let's not forget Mrs. Poole!

Todd: As indicated by my count, I picked up Theodora Goss' The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter over the holidays and have been making my way through it on my lunch breaks, based on your recommendation in this Comment Room a few months back.

Just over halfway through the first volume, and I just wanted to thank you for pinging such a delightful piece of literature; one I'd likely have never heard of otherwise. Reminds me a lot of the first Anno Dracula by Kim Newman, in terms of sharing the same general "let's throw all the Victorian literature in a pot and have funsies with it" spirit, but with an enjoyably extra-feminist bent.

Easily the best conceit of the novel, however, is its framing device: being written in real-time by Catherine, with the narrative stopping frequently to include commentary from the leads as they dispute her take on certain events, ask each other questions, or just insert some swearing (in Diana's case). It makes for a wonderfully unique reading experience, and one I'm having difficulty putting down.

Two thumbs way, way up. If you have any other recommendations for literature with a similar "feel," I'm all ears.
