Karrin>
Seeing Mera tackle that pillar of fire on her own reminds me so much of "Downtime" when she handled nearly all of Manta's troops solo. And cemented my position that she was the most badass person in Atlantis, bar none.

The crystal-like dimension during Klarion's reality trip brought to mind when Superboy X-rayed the magic residue of the king's murder. Makes me wonder if that dimension is somehow connected to sorcery of some kind.

And yeah, they've been hinting at Zatara biting it for so long that a good fake out where Nabu or the Helmet is damaged beyond repair and it's the Lord of Order that ends up sacrificing himself instead.
Merry Christmas to the Comment Room.

Merry Christmas! And wow, what an episode!
So that's what's up to with the bus. There's definitely something going on in that crystal dimension, but I wonder if it might be foreshadowing a different hero later on? It kind of reminded me of Herald's alternate dimension in Teen Titans '03 - although of course Mal is well and accounted for now, but there must be some other heroes that could be from desolate alternate dimensions. I also loved the motorcycle/skateboard joke - normally Klarion's mixups don't work for me, but that one was great.

I'm more than a little worried about Gar, too - it's good he's getting out of the tower, but he seriously needs help, and that 'we have to surrender' sure didn't fill me with hope.

I liked seeing the heroes respond all over the world! I love it when we see that kind of thing happen, and Madame Xanadu makes a great mission control. Plus I love seeing who teamed up (or not - shout out to Mera for apparently holding down the pillar of fire in Atlantis all by herself) with who - Etrigan and Blue Devil! Terra and Red Tornado! Worldwide catastrophes like this are great for odd pairings. I'm also very interested in the JL Reserves idea - and interested to see which heroes might decide to go to that rather than move to the League, or who might be asked to join.

Also... I wonder what's being foreshadowed with Mary. The power drain, I mean - is that setting up that she can draw power from people in general, and will use that to save the day somehow, or will she break her promise to Khalid and Traci? I'm hoping the former, but I'm not ruling anything out.

And speaking of foreshadowing - yeah, Zatara doesn't expect to make it out of here. Is it weird that him saying it outright makes me expect that somehow he'll survive? That might be wishful thinking - like, wanting to see Nabu decide to sacrifice his existence and save Zatara, at the very end - but still, I might as well entertain the hope. After all, part of what went wrong here is that they focused everything on Nabu, so maybe he needs to give his strength to the others to beat Child? Human ability to tip the balance, sort of thing.

I honestly... didn't really like this one. It was kind of spinning it's wheels a lot. The Zatara flashbacks didn't really reveal much about his character we didn't already know, and a lot of the rest of it was just chasing Child from location to location. It didn't really set up anything for the finale of this arc. The bus gag is actually kind of hilarious, but as a gag probably went on a little too long.

I don't really have much else to say about it honestly. Really did just feel like it was biding time.

Am I being too harsH? Is there something I missed?
He who hesitates is poor, Nabu.
So here's my thoughts on "Og Hitrof Dna Reuqnoc!",
Well, they sure didn't waste any time showing off why The Child is far worse than Klarion. She already looks like she wants to beat his kill count. Seriously, after the Reach trying to destabilize Earth's magnetic field and and practically splitting Roanoke in half, this whole situation has got to be an ecologist's worst nightmare.

Wow, so that whole bus constantly in danger wasn't just a recurring gag or simply a recycled peril for the heroes to rescue but Klarion bouncing around time and space looking for the Sentinels. I really never saw that coming. Those kids and that bus driver are going to need a crap load of therapy after traveling on the Chaos Magic School Bus though, also wonder how they're going to get back to ten years ago. Time travel is such a headache. Still, I wonder about that one scene where he didn't see any heroes at all and what that could mean. He briefly passed through Apokolips and Barda so his power to seek out heroes was still working, but what could that have meant?

So instead of just foreshadowing that Zatara isn't going to make it through this arc, we have him spelling it out that he's certain that he won't make it. And he's making damn sure that Nabu at least passes on his story to Zatanna. There's something sad about Zatara's tale as well. He spent so much time worrying that he was abandoning his family during his performances and crime fighting, and Zatanna often wanted some time away from him because she felt overprotected. And they didn't really land on the same page until Doctor Fate stole Zatara's life away. Still, this does bring an interesting point to things. Kent Nelson looked like he was searching for a proper replacement to Doctor Fate, which he could've done with Zatara. But instead he helped prepare him the life of a crime fighter and proper sorcerer, and even helped step in during long stays away from his family. Makes me wonder how serious he was about finding a host for Nabu and how much he was just trying to help other spellcasters like himself live their best lives.
Ah thanks Karrin. So the Adhan huh? That's something I've heard in film and tv before, but not as quiet and soothing as the one depicted in this episode. Which I suppose was the point.

Oh wow, the site doesn't like Arabic at all. Well, it's
Allāhu akbar, ašhadu al lā ilāha illā -llāh, ašhadu anna Muḥammadan rasÅ«lu -llāhi
.
That would be the adhan, the Muslim call to prayer.

Which translates as 'God is greater, I bear witness that there is no God but God, I bear witness that Muhammed is his Prophet', which of course is the Shahada, the oath that's one of the Five Pillars of Islam. (Or, well, the last two thirds are. The first isn't part of the Shahada to my knowledge.)
A happy solstice to all and to all a long night!
So I was rewatching "Teg Ydaer!" because I wanted to look back and try to examine some of the deeper religious connotations I missed, like the fact that when Zatara gives the Lord's Prayer the Latin translation is whispered in the background. More credence that he and his family are practicing Catholics.
I'm still don't know the deeper meeting of the chant that helped Kahlid out of his insecurity but I did discover that he uses the traditional Arabic greeting As-salamu alaykum, Wa Ê¿alaykumu s-salam "Peace be upon you, And peace be upon you too." As well as the fact that he uses the uncorrupted version of jihad, his struggle to describe his work to balance being both hero and doctor. A man of science, faith and magic.
Yes, it's winter solstice, which means that gargoyles are awake longest at this time of year. (At least, the ones in the northern hemisphere, but since thee aren't any surviving clans in the southern hemisphere, it's a moot point.)
