MATTHEW - Thanks for the latest review. One of my favorite parts of that episode was Eda saying "Those vegetables aren't going to cook themselves - until I bring them to life", followed by the vegetables, once she animates them, running off in terror instead and Eda saying "Why do I always think that's going to work?"

So I guess it's not just Willow that should switch to druid class.

Watched "Adventures in the Elements" which contains the pretty standard "character lies to make themselves look better for their peers" bit. But I am glad it's not given the main focus and we're not given the standard "character confesses they're not as whatever it was they previously claimed to be and their friends feel shocked and betrayed over it." I actually like that this show dips its toes into classic television clichés but doesn't fully embrace them. Instead skipping that for some fun action pieces or good jokes.

Eda's lessons are fascinating because it brings up thoughts I previously had when Luz first learned her light spell. That she crafts intricate glyphs to cast magic rather than just the plain circles the others (I think they're called witchlings?) do. I brings to mind a more primal connection to magic which does make sense, since old magic fables usually had something to do with nature. Though perhaps Eda could've worded her lessons a bit differently. You don't really build much confidence shoveling snow into your mouth and sticking moss up your nose.

So we pretty much have confirmation that Amity and Luz's relationship has become much better (don't think I didn't see that blush, Amity!) But I also like that her relationship with her siblings has improved somewhat; they're still goofballs but they are more considerate of her feelings even if they still troll her.

So the opening theme likes to show King attempting to lead a legion of stuffed animals, I guess that's easier said than done considering how quickly Private New Guy/Dingdong turned on him. But we also get mentions of him once leading armies, so I guess he really did once was the king of the demons? Which still makes me wonder how he ended up so adorable. Also, I think this is the first time I've seen him with an open mouth.

Favorite Lines:

Eda: Wow, a surprisingly peaceful domestic moment. When will it be ruined?
Luz: EDAAAA!
Eda: There it is.

Hooty: I will be haunted by my actions forever. Hoot hoot!

Just popping in to say -- yet again but it can never be said enough -- a massive thanks to the whole Voices from the Eyrie team. The show has had an amazing array of guests but when I realised Tuppence Macintyre was on I was especially psyched and it was great deep-diving Scottish history. And although many of the anecdotes from both Gregs - about S&P and John Rhys-Davies -- are ones I'd read previously, they tell them so well that they're still a pleasure to hear.

And by the next podcast we'll be in a new era of Gargoyles material. Seems unreal still.

Young Justice 3x04: Private Security

This is the definition of a filler episode. We are getting good character development, especially for Halo. And Dick maturing into the role of a mentor for all these people they saved from Markovia works. But there's just not much here. In particular, there's a mindless sequence of a black gangbanger stereotype who I guess had superpowers trying to steal a bunch of video game merchandise that takes up way too much time. This is the weakest episode of the season so far.

Just found out that there's a kind of gecko called a gargoyle gecko, which comes, from all places, New Caledonia. (Caledonia was the Roman name for Scotland. New Caledonia is a group of islands in the south Pacific Ocean.)

"The Owl House" does have a roundabout link to "Gargoyles", since it has ties to "Amphibia", which, in turn, featured that "Vitruvian Man"-style drawing of Goliath. I can certainly imagine Luz liking "Gargoyles" (since "The Owl House" began airing in early 2020 and "Gargoyles" started airing on Disney +- the most likely way to encounter it in the last few years - in late 2019, she could have just caught it before going to the Boiling Isles).

Mind you, if there are living gargoyles in the Boiling Isles, they'd be different enough from the ones on the show for Luz's friends to be rolling their eyes on just how "inaccurate" the show was (kind of like the scene in "Thanks to Them" [SPOILER] when Luz and her friends were watching "Hocus Pocus" and WIllow and Amity were regarding it in a very critical manner [/SPOILER]). At any rate, thanks for posting about the comic.

It is a little weird that way. I’ve been using it for the new release of Neil Gaiman’s Miracleman from Marvel and it has worked fine. Basically, the issue shows up in your preorder folder. Once the FOC date hits (final order commitment, which is a month before the release date) you can’t change your order anymore. When it comes out, it ships, but it doesn’t seem to ever actually move into your “cart.” Kind of confusing, but nothing to worry about.

By a weird coincidence, last night, they showed the first "Chbiverse" episode (the one with a cameo from Bronx), which included a bit about pizza toppings and a dislike of pineapple in that category.

I've heard about the "Art of Ducktales" book, though I haven't come across a copy yet. It sounds good, though.

And I'm going to have to order the first issue of "Gargoyles" soon (I'll be ordering online, since getting out to comics shops is difficult at present); I'll see if I can specifically order the cover of Bronx chasing pigeons.

Last week, I received my copy of Darkhorse's The Art of DuckTales, which included not only behind the scenes art and story breakdowns for each episode of the 2017 series, interviews with the cast and crew, but also an oversized replica of Scrooge's Number One Dime.

I now just need to find a coin bezel that can house an 1 1/4 inch dime d:

And this is why I disagree with the notion of thinking people can't relate to others of a different age.

I too share Luz's opinion on those who insult shipping when I am present.

Also agree with Anne Boonchuy from Amphibia with the no pineapple on pizza rule. Mind you I don't care for pineapple at all, but especially not on pizza.

This is the part of writing publishers don't want people to see.

Watched "Sense and Insensitivity" today and man did they have fun with the whole famous author franchise bit.

One thing I rather liked and was not expecting was for the blatant self-insert style that both King and Luz have going for them would be so well received, well for King anyway. Then I remembered that Twilight and The Mortal Instruments exist so it's a good reminder that reality is often stranger than fiction. I can only hope that our publishing companies aren't controlled by an evil tuatara.

The other plot with Eda and Lilith was fun, gotta give that mapmaker credit for honestly thinking he could just suck the life out of two incredibly powerful witches. The dynamic the two of them have is pretty nice. It's a standard responsible sibling/foolish sibling thing and judging by her school record, Eda's been the foolish one for some time. At the same time I do like that the two of them still care for each other and Lilith's main concern is Eda's curse. And that's there's enough respect between the two of them that neither really wants to force the other into their way of life.

You know King really rocked the author look with the jacket and scarf. Shame he lost that with his position. Which brings up another thing, King's desire for power followers. At this point we still don't know if he's an actual king of the demons or someone with just high expectations. If the former, I'm curious on how he seemed to fall so far and ended up so cute and adorable. And if he's always been cute and adorable, why he's so intent on being the king of the demons.

Favorite Lines:

Piniet: You wrote Ruler's Reach together. So if you don't want her crushed, you'll write together again. Oh, don't give me that look. Some of the best books were written in literal "crunch" time.
Luz: That's a toxic mentality that contributes to burnout and unrealistic expectations!

Oh, and there was a Donald Duck animated series a couple of years ago called "The Legend of the Three Caballeros" which had Donald and his fellow-Caballeros going on adventures involving various myths and legends. One episode had them meet King Arthur (whose character design was modeled on that of Richard the Lion-hearted in the Disney animated "Robin Hood"). They also got involved in the moai statues of Easter Island, the Nazca Lines, and the Roman gods (I've read that they were originally going to make it the Norse gods - and that episode did give a prominent role to a tree clearly based on Yggdrasil - but Marvel protested).

Disney also did a loose adaptation of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" in the late 70's (called "Unidentified Flying Oddball" in the U.S., "The Spaceman and King Arthur"), which updated the Yankee to a NASA engineer accidentally sent into Arthurian Britain, with Kenneth More as King Arthur.

And Don Rosa did a Donald Duck comic called "The Once and Future Duck" which had Donald similarly catapulted back in time to Arthurian Britain, though here based on the theories about a historical Arthur - with Arthur as the villain. (It drew, in particular, on two theories about the historical roots of the Arthurian legend. The first identified him as a British king named Riothamus, who was fighting the Visigoths in Gaul around 470. The second claimed that the Arthurian legend was influenced by a set of legends from central Asia about a band of heroes called "Narts", brought to Britain by a people from that part of the world called Sarmatians, whom the Romans had brought to Britain as mercenaries; Rosa, naturally, worked in a "Narts of the Round Table" piece of wordplay.)

Oh yeah I didn't specify that starred point in my first post. I forgot if Welker's character in TCWTS was named fully in the credits, but he responds to said name when Dean Higgins of Medfield College is going through students he hopes to expell for the school budget.

Also maybe not the most known VA while around, but Norman Alden had some known roles like Kay in The Sword in the Stone. Wonder how many King Arthurs Disney owns anyway. The have their 60s film version, Gargoyles' version and any from Marvel or Simpsons.

Also another role from Alden being Aquaman for the first two Superfriends seasons. Even reprising him for some Cartoon Network bumpers including one with the Powerpuff Girls.

A role in live action many likely recall would be Lou Caruthers from the 50s cafe from Back to the Future and couldn't make sense of Marty wanting a Tab or Pepsi Free. Also Tom Wilson's very minimal role. A Biff Tanner or something.XD

The only examples that really come to mind are Rob Paulsen's brief appearance in Spaceballs and Rodger Bumpass in The Running Man. The latter of which he was playing a television announcer role so even then he was primarily working with his voice.

1st with some unrelated trivia though with a relevant individual.

Asked a while back if anyway recalled seeing actors mostly involved in voice work in a live action role with more than a blink and miss.

My example being Frank Welker as Henry Fathinger* in The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. Friend of the lead character Dexter Reilly and is on his team during a televised competition.

Well not prominent in either past 97 was a Carl Steven. Mostly did acting and voice acting in his youth. A movie role he had was Tommy Pervis in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids as the on operating the lawnmower.

But he had a pretty decent role in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo as the young Fred Jones. Not pretty bad. Funny two given the next bit of trivia.

Namely he played a 9 year old Spock in Star Trek III which as some of you probably know especially due to the wiki mentioning such is Frank Welker providing the growls to an older Spock in the same movie.

Oh and as an aside Welker did special vocal effects for Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Plus the neighbor, Russell Thompson Sr. played by Matt Frewer which is when I first saw anything with him.
