I'm sorry to hear about Peter David's passing as well. I knew him best as the author of a book called "Knight Life", which imagined King Arthur's return to the modern world - and here, running for Mayor of New York.

****Blaise walks into the Room with smoke rising from the sides of his head.**** It seems my ears are burning.

DEMONA ISSUE 3 SPOILERS>
Oooo, nice find, Algae! I've read a lot of Lovecraft, but I've missed some of the rest of his circle (August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, etc.). Nice to learn of this one, and surprised I hadn't learned of it before as it is very much right up my alley. The name of the title character is surprising for both first and last name (as others have commented about the other "Renard" in the show). I took my handle from the name of Merlin's master (teacher) in some versions of the Arthurian myth, but I wonder what Smith's inspiration was. I also wonder if Blaise Reynard is actually the Warlock mentioned in the preview blurb, or if he will be a separate character.
On a more somber note:
MATTHEW FEDORA> My condolences to you and your family on your loss.

****Blaise bows his head and walks out.****

Sad news indeed. The incredibly dark Spider-Man/Daredevil story "The Death of Jean DeWolff" is excellent.

Sad news. Legendary comic book writer Peter David passed away. He was a writer on the first three seasons of Young Justice but is probably best known for his work on The Incredible Hulk.

It'd be really tempting to
have the magician in the story speak about animating the gargoyles through ancient Atlantean magics - maybe even the Praying Gargoyle, to tie in with its depiction in "The Last" - crafted by the legendary Klarkash-Ton (an actual nickname of Clark Ashton Smith, which appeared in the writings of Lovecraft and his colleagues, and depicted under that alias as a high priest in Atlantis)
.

Thanks for the research, Algae and Todd. Sounds like we found the source material! I've started reading it!

And I can't help wondering
what our own Blaise will think of the man's name
.
Todd Jensen

Thanks, Todd, it's good to be back.
Actually, my first thought on rereading the story yesterday after you pointed out the Clark Aston Smith connection was that Blaise Reynard might be a distant ancestor of ol' Halcyon.
Thanks for posting, Algae. It's great to see your posts again.
I'm all the more certain that "Demona #3" will be based on "The Maker of Gargoyles" after rereading it. For one thing, both stories are set in the year 1138. I doubt that's a coincidence.

I assume that the warlock whom Demona and Angelika encounter will be the counterpart of Blaise Reynard, though I imagine his name will be altered at least a bit; the "Reynard" part, of course, stands out from a "Gargoyles" perspective.
Sorry for my own double post but I realized too late that I should have added a content warning for
implied sexual assault
to the below link.

I usually only lurk here nowadays but
as a Weird Horror buff, I'd feel remiss if I didn't follow up Todd's post with a link to the original CAS story...

Sorry for the double post, but I've found
the likely source for Vyonnes, and the story in the upcoming issue. Clark Ashton Smith, a colleague of H. P. Lovecraft, wrote a horror story called "The Maker of Gargoyles", set in a medieval French town called Vyones, and featuring architectural gargoyles that come to life through dark magic. Presumably "Demona" #3 will be a hommage to this story.
We've now got the solicitation for the third issue of "Demona".
And it debunked one of my speculations about the mini-series, that Demona and Angelika would head east from Constantinople to Japan at the end of "Demona" #2 - a theory inspired by the "Vikings in Japan" exhibit in "Demona" #0. Instead, they're now in a town in France (apparently the comic's invention, since I googled "Vyonne" without getting any results), in a story featuring animated stone gargoyles. It'll be interesting to see how those differ from the regular gargoyles we're so familiar with.
Thank you again. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring the room down with my personal life.

On an unrelated note, Casually Comics did an in-depth look into the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode written by Greg, ""Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster!" Goes to show even before he was helming Young Justice, Greg has been one of the few writers willing to cover the multiple generations of the Flash.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Matthew.

Thank you all. This is a tough time for the family but we're trying our best.
My immediate plan is to reread Rain of the Ghosts and then rewatch The Owl House. Basically stay active or distracted for the time being.

My condolences as well to you, Matthew. And again, thank you for sharing a lovely poem with us that definitely matched your sister's interests. It was a fine way of honoring her memory.

My condolences too.

Thanks, Todd. Not sure why I put that last bit in spoilers though.

Sarah was my eldest sister and we lost her last evening. She's a sweet and gentle woman who loves Halloween, Disneyland and animals of all kind. That poem was just something I had to write to process the news.

MATTHEW - Thanks for sharing that poem with us - a very sweet one, given its Halloween-ish setting (and posted in May).

Little black bat, you fly so high,
There’s nothing holding you down, no world only sky.
When you catch the breeze the flapping is no chore,
The sky and the moon and the stars are yours.

Little black cat, you venture to and fro,
And everybody wonders just where do you go?
Jump into the shadows where no one else can see,
It’s such a great big world and you wander free.

Little spooky ghost, flitting through the night,
Passing here and there, and giving us a fright,
But you’re never mean or nasty; it’s always in good fun,
The laughs are filled with love and shared with everyone.

Though the world seems scary, and the night seems long and dark,
You’ll find so many friends who will always find a lark,
And when you find these friends, whether below or above,
Even the dark and spooky can be filled with love.
I love you, Sarah. I'll miss you so much.
