that funny, i thought i had the correct answer on both those questions, but had others wrong. oh well. not sure why i forgot Delilah, lol. guess i won't be getting a prize.
matt - [Cape Girardeau, MIssouri, USA]

you got two wrong... it was 80 gargoyles split in two and you missed Delilah as a clone. But otherwise, you got the rest right.

yeah, and i never figured out what my score was either. did i get 100%?
matt - [ewoks11@hotmail.com]

Your're right, matt. I made the quiz for HARDCORE fans. Casual fans who frequent this site should be able to get almost all of the questiosns. No, the questions don't focus soley on the 66 Cannon eps. I used what Greg has told us because at the time... well, I don't know why I did that actually... It was two years ago.

I did, however, screw up on the Himilaya's question, as it had two answers, so I changed it, and I made the legs question easier to understand.

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

i did the quiz Battle Beast. you were right some questions were very easy, but some were difficult, or rather, didn't really have an answer. some things were based on things i'm not sure are canon. did Goliath and Co stop at the Himilayas? where did Xanatos go to college? what is Hudson's mate's "name"? other questions didn't make a lot of sense as you had phrased them. you ask how many gargs have no legs, and the obvious answer is 1, Zafiro, but we don't know that, theres many Clans we havn't seen, and besides Greg has said that a good portion of the Mayan Clan's eggs will have no legs.
anyway, interesting quiz, interesting mix of questions. but on questions like the ones i've noted here i don' know how i did...

I found a trivia quiz that I made years ago, for a contest. I am putting up the link again.

http://school.discovery.com/quizzes28/battlebeast/gargoyles2.html

It will be a contest, and the winner will receive a prize. I don't know what it will be, but it will probably be a Gargoyles themed prize. (or something cool.) This quiz is rediculously easy.

So try it out. The winner will be randomly choosen from all 100% entries.

I live about ten minutes (or less) away from Anaheim, CA in Cypress. It's mostly a nice, sunny day everyday so I would wear shorts, but it's been raining lately. Right now, the skies are clear, but if your planning to come to the area, bring jackets or sweats just in case.

"If Oberon can be disabled by the ringing of an iron bell, you'd think an iron harpoon through the chest would have killed him."

I always attributed the bell bringing him to his knees to the fact that his power had been limited at the time. I never thought that Oberon at full power (or any adult Fay, for that matter) would be paralyzed to that extent under normal circumstances.

I'd rather that Greg never revealed what Titania whispered to Fox at all; as he himself has said, the real answer could never live up to our expectations by now.

I love the fact that Greg has this outlet to ramble, especially since Disney doesn't do all-episode commentaries a la "The Simpsons." I never would have guessed that the Iron Clan was supposed to be so big. And I'm amused at the fact that Greg's so amused at Brent's deliverance of his lines as Puck. I have to admit that I love 'em too, but not as much as Greg.

And I love his reference to the Titania/Fox mystery. I still think he should have it engraved on his tombstone or put it in his will that it should be revealed on the fiftieth anniversary of the show or something, if he doesn't live that long.

And ditto goes to Carly Simon's "You're So Vain."

Lord GargFan

wait a sec, didn't Xanatos use one of the so-called mega-sized Iron Clan robots to catch Broadway? the robot seemed slightly larger than usual in reference to Broadway, but certainly not 20 feet tall?
am i getting the facts correct here?

matt - [ewoks11@hotmail.com]

Actually, if you watch the scene where Oberon flys straight down, being pursued by the robots, and Oberon flys beneath the building. You can see the scale of the Iron Clan robots. They are big.
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Gathering 2006]
Come to the Gathering

One interesting tidbit from Greg's "Gathering Part Two" ramble last night: the Iron Clan robots in this episode were supposed to be much larger than the regular Steel Clan. I certainly hadn't suspected that.

(Incidentally, I like Oberon's comment on them, "You gird mechanical men in iron?" It gives a nice sense of a being from the fantasy genre encountering something from a sci-fi genre, and reminds me of one of my favorite aspects of Season One, in the gargoyles' encountering the modern world with such moments as Goliath's description of Xanatos's monitor as "like a living tapestry".)

And Greg also brings up the way that you can actually hear Puck's delight and fascination over the fact that Xanatos chose a lifetime of service from Owen over a wish from Puck, how genuinely intrigued he was that Xanatos would choose Owen/Puck's mundane efficiency over his magical side. (I might add that, in light of how Puck granted Demona's wishes in "The Mirror", Xanatos showed good judgment in picking Owen. Of course, maybe Puck wouldn't have twisted around one of Xanatos's wishes, out of professional courtesy.)

Not Being Released from the Quest>>
Thus arises the question: could Goliath and Elisa be "called" away from Manhattan, if need be?

Also, this reminds me of a thought I had a while ago: if TimeDancer was out of the question, could Brooklyn, feeling useless and disconnected in Manhattan, heed the adage that "Avalon takes you where ye need to be" and go on a quest himself?

as for the skiff sinking or not sinking, i dunno. someone should ask Greg about it and see whether he changed his mind... of course maybe the skiff sinks WHEN the people abandon the Quest. Arthur perhaps intended to stay in London, and so the skiff sensed this and sunk. Goliath and Co. intended to stay in New York, so the skiff sank.
in any event, you could always get another boat and say the spell and start another quest, right?

i found it VERY interesting that "The Reckoning" was originally intended to be a two-parter! probably would've changed a lot. added a lot more.

matt - [ewoks11@hotmail.com]

Not to change the subject on everyone, but I had to write this down now so I wouldn't forget to do it later. About a year ago, I touched on the idea of writing gargoyle-themed Law & Order fanfics, one for each series. I was watching an episode of SVU when I had an idea for a gargoyle themed SVU story. The vixtims in this 'episode' are not from the Manhattan clan, but are female Chinese gargoyles whose clan has been forced into slavery by Chinese Triads or risk annihilation. Basically, the atrocity for the story is that the females who are attractive by human standards are forced to cater to certain Triad clients taste for the truly exotic.

The reason for SVU's involvement is that in post-Hunter's Moon Manhattan, the Triads decide to exploit the association of Gargoyles with Manhattan now has to expand their previously exclusive and secret trade. SVU, while busting a Triad brothel discover a secret room with two statues, and that's as much as I got so far. I'm still debating on whether writing as a scripted show in the Gargoyles universe (meaning the whole scene is just that, a scene), or to make it an actual event in the Gargoyles universe (meaning, it is really happening).

Other fanfics on the drawing board are your typical Quarryman propaganda plots.

Gantros
"As with all things, darkness falls for thee..."

Goliath and Co. Never abandoned their quest. They though Avalon released them, so they never bother to go back to the skiff. They were home, and that's where they were gonna stay. They didn't realise that the quest was still on going. They thought it was over.
Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

As far as the skiff sinking. What we see on screen is the only real canon at this point. So, on the skiff, Greg is allowed to change his mind if he wants.
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Gathering 2006]
Come to the Gathering

That does bring up an interesting point. A quick search of Ask Greg shows that he has stated, many times, that the skiff sank. This latest ramble is in direct contradiction to that (unless Goliath sank the skiff himself out of frustration or something).
StarCreator

My assumption was that Avalon had sent them back to New York to stop Oberon, and then the skiff sank, as did Arthur's, indicating that Goliath et. al. were sent back to New York to stay, because Avalon wanted them to remain in New York and fight the continuing evil there. Given Demona's upcoming plot to destroy the world, the Quarreymen threat, and the doubtless many other threats coming to them soon, I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that New York would remain "where they need to be."

"A preposition is something you should never end a sentence with. This is an affectation up with which I will not put." -Winston Churchill

One interesting tidbit in Greg's ramble on "The Gathering Part One": since Avalon hadn't actually released Goliath and Co. when it sent them to Manhattan, but did so rather to stop Oberon from kidnapping Alex, it meant that Goliath really abandoned those Avalon missions by deciding to stay in Manhattan afterwards. It reminds me of how, when I first saw "The Gathering", I was wondering briefly whether Goliath and the others would have to get back on board the skiff after all at the end and continue their travels; fortunately, they didn't have to. (And that would be a pretty cruel thing to do to them, too, so soon after they'd finally gotten home - it'd be as if you were just sitting down to a delicious meal and somebody came along and took all the food away.)
Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

I think Margot would fall somewhere between the likes of Senator Kelly and J. Jonah Jameson. As an assistant District Attorney, she has more more political power than a newspaper publisher, but not as much as a U.S. Senator. Someone like Jameson, however, is much more able to influence public opinion in a big way.

JURGAN> Marina was unavailable for "The Journey" so they re-cast Margot with Tress McNeil. Same with Castaway. Scott Cleverdon wasn't available, so they brought in Alan Cumming.

I'm sure if Marina was available, she'd have kept the role.

I mean, Jeff Bennett is allowed to voice more than one character.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Gathering 2006]

Wasn't Margot at some point played by Tress Macneille? I thought that Sirtis did her voice when she was an incidental character, but Macneille took over when she became a major character in TGC.

BISHANSKY - Thanks. I will confess that I'm not familiar enough with "Spiderman" to know about that side of Jameson's career. And I agree that Margot's not likely to be providing any support to the gargoyles' adversaries (it would certainly be scandalous for an Assistant District Attorney to be doing that sort of thing).

Weird thought: if Demona gets incensed enough about Margot's anti-gargoyle remarks (which will be getting more publicity than anti-gargoyle remarks from your average New Yorker, because she's a public official) and decides to go after her personally, Marina Sirtis would have really earned a paycheck for that episode - if it had ever been made!

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

TODD> I think comparing Margot Yale to Senator Kelly is a lot more fitting than J. Jonah Jameson. Jameson was responsible for a few of Spider-Man's villains. Specifically the Scorpion and then later, the Spider Slayers. Though, later on, when he was blackmailed with this info by the Hobgoblin, Jameson chose to write a public confession in his newspaper rather than let the Hobgoblin extort him.

Margot is obviously a politician, though she genuinly fears the gargoyles, I don't see her funding or creating super villains.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Gathering 2006]
Come to the Gathering

Since I'd gotten rather fond of Macbeth from "City of Stone" on (I probably even began to warm to him in "A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time"; anybody who could talk about King Arthur and Merlin the way that he did can't be all bad), I was pleased to see his final appearance in the series (to date) be one where he was supporting the gargoyles. Though he really ought to watch his temper when debating with Margot.

One thing about Margot; "The Journey" alters her considerably. Up until then, she was just another New Yorker who kept on running into the gargoyles. Now she's become a "civilian adversary", with a function (or the potential of a function) similar to that of, say, J. Jonah Jameson in "Spiderman" or Senator Kelly in "X-Men" - somebody who doesn't actually take on the "super-villain" role and battle the protagonists personally, somebody who's on the right side of the law, in fact, but who also dislikes the protagonists and fervently opposes them, if in a non-violent fashion. I wonder if Margot could wind up, in some ways, as even more of a thorn in the gargoyles' side than the Quarrymen or the Pack, if not in quite the same manner....

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Well, Macbeth is an honorable guy. He knows about gargoyles, and what they're like. He's worked with them. He'd speak his mind on the issue. Doesn't mean he's now best buddies with Goliath and the Manhattan Clan.
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Gathering 2006]
Come to the Gathering

Given that Demona's used just about any situation she's had to turn Gargoyles against humans I'd expect her to try and manipulate the situation. Maybe try and rally those clans who would listen to her. Use the Quarrymen to achieve what she never could, unite the Gargoyles.

But your definately right, Todd. She, just like Jon, would probably hit that point where her seething vengance turns those that initially ally with her against her. So you have Demona and Jon being essentially the same focal point (with certain similar flaws) for each side.

--

I like seeing MacBeth stand up for the gargoyles in "The Journey".

Through the first season and early into the second he probably falls into the "bad guy" category. Then the Demona issue crops up and it's no longer a MacBeth/Gargoyles thing it's a MacBeth/Demona thing (as it always has been, but we didn't know that before). So what is the MacBeth/Gargoyles (sans Demona) relationship?

I don't think the Gargoyles really know what to think, except that whenever he's around, bad things get to happening. Elisa seems a little more cavalier with her feelings and probably just outright doesn't like him. I think MacBeth probably respects the gargoyles and maybe even sees them as closer to him than the rest of the human race. What I mean by that is nobody except Demona can begin to understand what MacBeth has gone through. MacBeth is probably alone, like Demona, and probably an emotional wreck, like Demona, with a very tough and walled up exterior, like Demona. But maybe he sees the Manhattan clan, and what they've gone through, as perhaps being closer in experience (in terms of being isolated, suffering devastating losses, etc...) than any other human on the planet.

So when MacBeth is there in "The Journey" sticking up for the clan, is he crossing over into "good guy" territory. Or does he have some other motivation behind it, like trying to diffuse a situation that might turn beneficial for Demona.

--

Do you suppose Goliath and crew have ever once stopped and tried to imagine what Demona and MacBeth must have gone through over the last 1,000 years or do you figure it's more of a "is bad/is good" evaluation and that's it.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Gathering 2006]

Interesting question about the other gargoyle clans' responses. I think that it would be a case-by-case business (particularly given how the Gargoyles Universe works), though there'd obviously be much concern about the consequences of Jon Canmore's outing. It's certainly only going to be a matter of time before the humans start wondering "If there are gargoyles in New York, maybe there are gargoyles in other parts of the world as well."

Mind you, the "outing" would have to have taken place eventually; the gargoyles couldn't have continued to remain a secret much longer, not in view of everything going on in Manhattan. Even if Jon hadn't outed them, somebody else most likely eventually would. (If anything, given all the crime-fighting that the gargoyles did, often in front of the would-be victims of the criminals that they foiled, it's amazing that it took so long for them to be outed.)

Of course, Goliath does bear some of the responsibility, in that it was his going after the Canmores in a vengeful rage that led to their broadcast. (Of course, he didn't know what the consequences would be - and Jon has to bear his share of the responsibility for exposing them. I've sometimes thought that his broadcast was even worse than any of the things that he did as Castaway, because at the time that he aired the broadcast, he knew that the gargoyles weren't the evil monsters that he would later on believe them to be when he was leading the Quarrymen.)

Demona would certainly see the situation with mixed feelings; on the one hand, her species is in fresh danger, but on the other hand, as Bishansky said, she can exploit the situation to convince her race to join her in wiping out humanity. (Though in practice, knowing Demona, she'd then proceed to unwittingly undo her efforts through her vengeful fury, which would most likely wind up alienating any gargoyle that was tempted to join with her, as happened with Brooklyn in "Temptation".)

Perhaps the gargoyles' one hope is that not all humans out there are responding with hatred and fear (though the ones that aren't are outnumbered by the ones that are), and that, if Vinnie's behavior in "The Journey" is any indication, Castaway's own extremism could wind up getting many humans to start rethinking the "extermination" approach towards gargoyles. (Which reminds me of my little creativity demon about "What if the real reason why the Illuminati helped Castaway set up the Quarrymen was to subtly battle anti-gargoyle attitudes by placing the war against gargoyles under the command of a man whose hatred for the species was so intense, who would be so ready to stoop to anything to achieve his goals of killing every last gargoyle on the planet, that he'd wind up opening humanity's eyes to the ugliness of his goal?")

He would have had permission to delete your question, which is certainly an idea masquerading as a question, whether or not that was your intent. (And Matt your parallel to the Demona WWII metaphor is faulty.)

Those are the RULES as they currently exist. We all know they are far from perfect. The plan is to eventually do a major overhaul of the whole site, including the rules. We're basically waiting on Gorebash to have enough real life time to get that done. And until then, I've asked Todd not to delete or approve ANYTHING.

So for the time being, I think we'd all be better served if three things happened here in the comment room...

1) Lay off Todd. He has a difficult enough job dealing with parameters that he did NOT set without people ragging on him over choices he has to make.

2) Todd, I personally think it's a miscalculation to air your thinking on ASK GREG here. You're inviting comment. And frankly at this stage, you don't want it.

3) If any of you, Todd included, see a question in the queue at ASK GREG that you can answer in the comment room, go ahead and answer it. Editorializing is unnecessary. We want to welcome new people, not scare them off or make them feel dopey. But help is always welcome. first off, i want to say congrats to Spen for noticing the no tv/diamond exchange woman was the same. its not a big deal, but it is kinda cool to discover another minor New York human character after all these years. i'm amazed no one noticed it sometime in the last 10 years. good eye Spen.

Heritage skiff> i can't remember, did we see Goliath and Co leave the island on the skiff? if not its possible they left on some other boat and got a new skiff back on Avalon. probably more likely they had the island's residents repair it though.

Clan outing> a very interesting topic, glad you brought it up Gorebash. its a good time to try to clear something up. did or didn't the London Clan effectively come out at the end of MIA? i mean they revealed themselves in front of a bunch of human strangers in London, Greg has said that ending changed everything, and i believe it. the Clan most likely didn't reveal their true numbers or the location of the Clan Estate, but Londoners certainly know they exists, right?
anyway, as for Manhattan and other Clans i doubt Goliath would do anything to reveal the existence of other Clans. he would keep their actual numbers secret for safety reason. i can easily see someone (maybe Pack Media Studios) eventually holding a major press conference with Goliath, Hudson, maybe the whole Clan, telling the world who and what they are, and that they are no threat. something similiar to the "Broadway Goes to Hollywood" gig. can you imagine the ratings on that show!
anyway, when such a media appearence happens 5-10 years after Hunter's Moon, i suspect that is when other Clan's will start announcing their presence. i have little doubt that London will be the first or close to, but Ishimura will almost certainly be the last, Greg W has implied that in his ideas for G:2198, and i think that makes sense. Ishimura is a small, peaceful village of secretive and isolated humans and gargoyles, its not in their nature to become a world-wide focus. they would certainly know how media-circusy the Japanese would get and wouldn't want to destroy their simple lives.
the Loch Ness Clan is also unlikely to come out. they seem far too secretive about their lives and the life of the Monster. they may fear their revealed existence will verify the monster's existence and put it in jeopardy.
hard to say what the Pukhan and Xanadu Clan's will do, cuz we know so little of them.
New Olympus is anyone's guess, and Greg has hinted that that situation will be complicated.
Labyrinth Clan will probably in most human's minds simply be considered a part of the Manhattan Clan as a whole, and thus their coming out fate is not likely to differ from Goliath and Co.
i can see the Mayan Clan coming out maybe 10-15 years after Hunter's Moon. the media will love clips of a small Clan struggling to raise a bunch of gargoyle kids.

back to the question though, i don't think any of the Clan's will really be upset at the Manhattan Clan for coming out. i think it's pretty obvious that the way they came out was not an intential step on Goliath's part. the Clans most likely knew that eventually one of the Clans was going to be discovered, they couldn't hide forever. i think the Clans will most likely be quite sympathetic to the Manhattan Clan's troubles. it seems that Kai, Griff and Zafiro were all somewhat surprised that other gargoyles were still alive at all, so perhaps the Manhattan Clan's coming out will make them aware of other Clan's for the first time and give them some hope.

i mean, before the World Tour did ANY Clan in the world know of any other Clan? i doubt it. so why would they even think of a stay-low-policy if they felt they may be the only Clan left? they were staying low for their own survival and privacy. if a Clan on the other side of the world wants to reveal themselves, i doubt they feel too threatened and probably at worst felt sorry for them and wished them luck with the humans.

just my take, sorry for the ramble.

Some might resent it. Not all. Nothing in the Gargoyles Universe is monolithic. But, considering the panic it caused in NY and the rise of the Quarrymen, I don't see too many other clans holding press conferences any time soon.

On another note, with the gargoyle species being outed and this wave of fear and panic and guys in hoods with hammers, if it helps anyone, it helps Demona. The Quarrymen are the best propaganda she has to convince other gargoyles that humanity is a threat to them.

Keeping a low profile would be in any species' best interest when the rival species most likely to do them in outnumbers them by about twelve million to one. Of course, the weight of numbers won't get any better as time goes on, and once one clan has been "outted" in a very public fashion, the cat is pretty much out of the bag on the big question of whether or not gargoyles actually exist. For the other clans, the question then becomes whether they have more to gain by continuing to hide and inevitably being "discovered" by an eager cryptozoologist, or whether they'd be better off revealing themselves on their own terms. Clans like Ishimura and London, who already have human allies, would probably be more inclined to take the latter course. Clans like Loch Ness, meanwhile, might be more likely to take a "wait and see" approach.

Do you suppose the other clans around the world will come to resent the Manhattan clan for getting outted?

I mean, while it doesn't seem to be any kind of official "gargoyle" policy, they do seem to try and keep a low profile. So once Manhattan's crew gets outted, now the world knows about Gargoyles and possibly other clan get outted becasue of it? Perhaps even hunted by the hunter or hunter-esque groups out there (quarrymen).

Which got me thinking. The Manhattan clan really didn't seem to have a specific "stay low" policy. Except in Awakenings or right there after does Goliath tell the trio to not be seen while they're out around town. Since then the only person who seems interested in keeping the gargoyles on the down low is Elisa.

I mean, before they wake up in NYC, the guys back at Wyvern had no problem being out in the open and living with humans. The Japanese clan still live with humans. The UK clan (at least Griff) seemed to be friendly/comfortable with humans.

So maybe none of the clans care?
