Um, I don't think "yeesh" is like "yeah" or "yea"
More like groan, y'know?

JJ Gregarius

Yeeesh.
Matt

Or ja.
JJ Gregarius

having several discussions at once never bothered me. What sent me a little over the edge this week was the whole "yea" and "yay." debate. Are we really wasting our lives with stuff like this. Then again, I'm wasting my life by talking about it now, so I guess I'm not much better.

So with the room about to clear and a new week of comments ready to start, I can be like Kermit the frog and say "Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay"

Or is that "yeah"? "yea"? "Ya"? "Yah"? "Yey"?

Wingless

Oh no, it isn't. Someone mentioned that there may not be enough traffic here to justify dividing this forum into threads. I was just saying that there's another forum (not a Gargoyles forum) I go to that also doesn't get a lot of traffic, and the division into threads works fine. Sorry for the confusion.

I often frequent another forum that hardly has any traffic and is divided into threads. It's much more organized, and anytime you browse the ongoing threads, an icon appears next to any thread that's been updated since you last viewed it. So that's an easy way to quickly check whether or not a topic has been updated. Personally, I tend to prefer dividing the forum up into threads, but I will grant that there would be less a feeling of comradary.

As for the problem of needing to be gutsy enough to reprimand long time visitors, I don't like any of you anyway, so I would have no problem being a moderator here.

YES that was a joke. Don't pounce on me.

Arlo
"Yes, I am male. No, I won't have sex with you."

Fear not, I'm still around. I've just been a little busy lately. It's hard to believe that Christmas is just three weeks away. The months since the L.A. Gathering have just flown by.

So is Issue #2 of the comic still due out this week? I need to find a place to buy that.

29 days left before Gathering 2007 pre-registration prices increase (last day is December 31).
201 days left until The Gathering 2007 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee!

Put it this way: I've been visiting here 9 years and the TGS room since it was founded and, personally, I've never once in that time felt the structure hasn't led to good discussions.
Ed

When has responding to several topics at once lead to good discussion? ;-)
JJ Gregarius

I much prefer the non-threaded system myself. You can respond and check over a bunch of different topics at once and it gives a much greater feel of community. It's great.
Ed

JJ> I've often wondered why the comment room is organized as one giant conversation instead of the more thread-based systems other websites seem to favor. But do we have enough people/traffic to justify splitting the conversation into a bunch of little pieces? We're not that busy to begin with.

Well, one gargoyle's interesting discussion is another's all out war. :shrugs:

It would help if we had a way to divide the discussion area into separate threads. Right now, any large discussion can cause most other simultaneous discussions to die or get tangled into an impenetrable mess. This understandably causes grief. Threads help discussions coexist peacefully. They also help people discovering a discussion figure out what the heck is going on.

Another idea would be to organizing these various threads into several topics. There should be, at least, one topic for Gargoyles discussion, and one for everything else("general discussion"). Why an "everything else" topic? It helps people have on-line conversations, allowing them to get to know each other without having to have been to a Gathering first. (In fact, this room should be a virtual, never-ending Gathering, but that's a discussion for another day) The "everything else" topic also helps online friends with common interests (such as news, sporting events, etc.) talk without being yelled at.

Better moderation would help, too, but I think that would go hand-in-hand with the organization ideas above. If you want divert a heated debate between two people elsewhere, you first need an elsewhere. Now, that could actually happen, should a Gargoyles fan discover enough free time, but the real problem with moderation is that moderators must have the courage to reprimand "luminaries" and old-timers of the community. Easier said than done.

JJ Gregarius

Yeah, don't feel silly, Samuel. I was just responding to Jurgan's comment. But he misunderstood the situation because other people misunderstood the situation. So whatever. No hard feelings, and I apologize for my role in the conflict as well.

Anyway, I tried actually talking about something Gargoyles-related like you guys want, but no one else pitched in. :-(

Arlo
"Yes, I am male. No, I won't have sex with you."

Seriously, everytime I check out this CM, there is some sort of arguement going on, or maybe it's something else. I dont understand what happens in here sometimes so lets just talk about things on our mind. I for one have three:

1. Can anyone believe it's already been almost 6 months since the gathering? Already half way to the next one, yay!
2. Has anyone seen Patrick lately?
3. Just 10 more days till issue 2 of Gargoyles :)

Arlo: I thought you were joking at first, but everyone else was taking it seriously, so I thought maybe I'd missed something.

Matt: For crying out loud, relax! Why is it that there's always someone complaining every time we get off topic or take things a little too seriously? Yes, it's a Gargoyles comment room, but we can't talk about Gargoyles all the time. I get sick of people complaining whenever the conversation isn't to their taste- either ignore the conversation or start a new topic. I also hate when people do the crotchety old man routine about how things have gone downhill, and they were so much better "back in my day."

Samuel: I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not at all put off by you talking and I don't give a rat's patootie if Arlo thinks I or anyone else is cool. "What? I'm saying I'd rather kiss you than die- it's a compliment!" -Aang, from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Well I think we all agree that the Gathering was permanent. But yeah, I think Oberon's children would probably stir up some trouble being mischeivous with the clan. But Katherine's strong. I think she would make herself heard to Oberon before it got too out of line, and I think he would definitely make strict rules protecting the rights of the mortals on the island. He does seem to be fond of them now and all, when he isn't fighting with Goliath.

But more importantly, I do think it's clear that Kaylle cares whether or not I think she's cool.

Arlo

I know that it wasn't being updated for a while, but for how long has the GNC webpage been missing?
Lynati

Ooookay, I thought I had offered something reasonably interesting to discuss as a Gargoyles subject earlier this week. I mean, I don't often come up with creative ideas to offer you folks in here. I'm not really as creative as some of the more regular people that hang around. But I thought I had come up with something reasonably unique for a change, and the discussion is overtaken by a debate over which way to say "yay"?!?

This is pretty sad.

*crawls back into a hole*

Wingless

Which reminds me. I've been meaning to post this.

For people who have been looking at the webcomic. What do you think about it and what could we improve on. (yes getting things done on time is already considered) ;-P

Shara - [jeanie54_2000 at yahoo dot com]

I know that yay is currently an interjection that expresses pleasure or joy. And I know that yea is an affirmation. Beyond that I don't know too much about them... I didn't realise it was a problem though.

According to the dictionary, yea comes from old German, gea, and means yes or thus, as The pony was yea high. Yay also means yes, colloquially, and is also an expression of happiness. It, too, can be used as an adverb meaning thus.

...

I didn't realise that yay, interjection of joy was not a common word. I also did not realise people were going to argue over it, or that it would cause Arlo's opinion of "you guys" to fall. So, again, sorry. And I'm just not going to talk for awhile because everyone seems to get upset over it.

So, Samuel, you're saying that the interjection and the affirmative response are not the same word / spelled the same? Then why did the Magic School Bus have "YEA!!!" printed above the windshield at the end of the stories? I don't think it was voting on a parliamentary motion...
Vid the Kid
Does this font make me look fat?

And to think, I actually thought some of you guys were cool before I witnessed a heated debate over the spelling of "yea" and "yay."

Yeah I never made any snow castles or anything as a kid, but I did push my friend off his sled while he was sledding. And beat each other up and throw snowballs at each other like crazy and then go back to his house for hot cocoa. And throw snowballs on the windshields of moving cars. And a lot of other stuff I'm not entirely proud of.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

I meant "yay," not "yea." "Yay" is an interjection. Like, "hurrah." But, to be fair, yea and yay are related. I think.

Apparantly it's a fairly new word, under the interjection-definition. Because it's not in my superwonderful dictionary. n.n I love that dictionary.

Oh, anyway. The reason I asked, was because I spell it y-e-y, which is incorrect, and it's just my way of being silly. And my friend noticed that another gargoyles fan spelled it that way. So I was wondering if anyone else did it. But apparantly not. n.n

Thanks for the help, though.

It's spelled "yea". Although that (albeit correct) spelling is uncommon on the internet, partially because most confuse it (and some use it) as a shorthand for "yeah".

Yeah, snow is really what makes below-freezing weather worthwhile. When I was younger I used to love making snow forts and sculpturs.
Not that anything I made was very good, but whatever.
But the really weird thing is that it is hardly even below freezing around here, most days. It's almost creepy, it's so abnormal.

Vaevictis Asmadi

The weather here persists in being on the warmer end of things. It's a little cooler today, but not exactly what I'd consider December weather.
Asatira

Eh, I miss the snow. It was the only thing that made Winter worth it. It hasn't snowed here in like five years.

"The point is kinda moot though since Katharine vowed to not use the bell against Oberon or his people, and I think she would be true to her word."

Wouldn't matter if Oberon broke his end of the bargain. Their agreement not to use the bell was in exchange for his allowing them safe haven on Avalon. It probably wouldn't be near as effective with him at full strength, or on Mab, for that matter, but it might be a good weapon if some of the Children (*cough*WeirdSisters*cough*) started acting up.

We don't know for sure how big Avalon is. They seemed to travel it pretty well in both Avalon and Ill Met..., but maybe there are big sections still unexplored.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Do we know that Avalon is, in fact, that tiny? At times, it seems fairly large.

I think the Bell wouldn't be able to kill Oberon in his powerful state, though I'm sure he'd hate it. Keep in mind an iron harpoon to the chest didn't kill him at full strength. The point is kinda moot though since Katharine vowed to not use the bell against Oberon or his people, and I think she would be true to her word. Whatever happened to the bell anyway? Is it still on the Island. It could certaintly prove useful when Mab returns to the Island. It would be rather ironic if the Bell that nearly killed Oberon was the only thing that saved Oberon's rule. It would also be cool that the Honor Guard would end up saving the Children from Mab despite their lack of magical power.

Matt - [O'Fallon, Missouri, USA]
"Toilet out of order. Please use floor below." - Sign in public restroom stall.

Still, the purpose of the gathering is up in the air, at least to me. And can mortals and fey learn to get along on such a tiny island. Especially when the fey leader is such a hot head and hard to control. Tom & Katherine gave away their right to use iron on him - or for that matter, would the Iron bell even have the same effect on him with him at full power? He was at reduced power when it worked the first time.

Geez, I'm rambling again. All these thoughts running to me afte not having watched an episode in over a year. Goes to show you how much the show has become a part of me. Damn you Greg! :-) Just kidding. I love my inner Gargie side.

Wingless

I'd say it's pretty clear that the Gathering, if not permanent, is at least for quite a while, given how resistant Puck was to returning.

"What? I'm saying I'd rather kiss you than die- it's a compliment!" -Aang, from Avatar: The Last Airbender

These are good questions. What was the point of the Gathering and how long will it last? Are the Children supposed to remain on Avalon now or can they come and go?

I wonder, is Oberon's Law of non-interference even valid on Avalon? Katharine, Tom and the Avalon Clan abandoned the mortal world and are the honor guard of Avalon. Are they even considered mortal in the casual sense anymore? Perhaps, because of their status, they Children can do what they want. Though I'd say Todd made a good point about harrassing them would be an affront to Oberon himself.

Interesting.

Happy Birthday, Kythera!

Today is also St. Andrew's day - which is relevant to a Gargoyles comment room since he's the patron saint of Scotland.

WINGLESS - Of course, Oberon's Law would forbid the Third Race to directly meddle in the lives of the Avalon clan. On the other hand, that's never stopped them from finding loopholes, so maybe the Avalon gargs could be in for some trouble. On still the other hand, now that they're Oberon's honor guard, any tricky schemes directed at them could be seen as an affront to Oberon himself, so I suspect that the Third Race would have to tread carefully here.

Wingless> That is a very interesting scenario you've put out there. I can see Katharine and Tom standing up to Oberon, with Gabriel and Ophelia, if not the whole clan for some unknown reason, standing up to them.

Happy Birthday Kythera ^_^

Had a thought today. It may have been covered before-so forgive me if I missed it. Concerning Oberon calling his children back to Avalon. Was this to be a permanent thing? Was he doing this just for a celebration? What was the purpose of the Gathering if they were not to all to stay on Avalon? My concern in all this is the havoc all the fey will cause with the Avalon Gargoyles. I can see them being used as pawns in their games. Figures like Raven and Anansi could very well prey on members of the young and somewhat naive members of the Avalon clan. I can see Goliath possibly having to return to intervene and maybe having to negotiate some rules with Oberon(if that is even possible to do) to how his children are permitted to interact with the clan. It hasn't been talked about much just how the Avalon Gargoyles would get along with the fey now inhabiting the island again. Would make for a few interesting stories I'm sure. Do you think you'd see Kathrine standing up to Oberon if the fey were mistreating her "eggs"? Any thoughts?

Sadistic Cow> lmao That was a wonderful mental image. :)

Matt - "Maybe Gargoyles were the first beings to pull Santa's sleigh. Hehe."

Now that is a thought that gives me some very bizarre mental images. Would the gargoyles pulling his sleigh have names? If not, how could he yell, "On Prancer!" and so on? And if they did have names, were they the reindeer names we currently know?

I can just see an enormous butch of a male gargoyle with jingling bells on answering to, "On, Vixen!" It gives me a weird fluttering in my stomach. Though that may just be a feeling of absolute horror and fear. o.O

Though I, too, would like to see what Greg W. would do with Santa Claus in the Gargoyles-verse. For all my imagination, I don't know how he would pull it off and make it fit - and that mystery would be fun to see done.

On the comic - I personally don't care that it's late. It's unfortunate that it is, and by such a large length of time, but ultimately as long as it comes out at all I'm happy. I noticed the same trend when I worked for a pizza company taking orders; as many people who were enraged that it was late (and by enraged I do mean enraged; it's bloody shocking just how upset people get over pizza!), as many really didn't care as long as they got it.

On Disney - Bah! Business is business. I don't know a darn thing about the business world, but I imagine it's something like politics: the stupid things get the most attention and are fought over like rabid coyotes desperate for a chunk of that big ol' tasty moose, and the important things are buried like scat.

'Course, with my limited knowledge of politics and business, and my obscene lack of understanding of both, I'm probably wrong. Still, that's what it looks like to me.

I'll just be content that there's new material coming.

Samuel - Don't ya hate it when your brain decides to fart at you like that? ;)

It's me and you against the world. So when do we attack?

I'm going to check the archives, but that's one he's managed to keep the info on pretty small.

"Concerning Santa Claus, maybe the Garg-verse Santa Claus won't be the Coca-Cola one. The modern Santa Claus is derrived from political cartoons, or newspaper comics, I forget, from around the American Civil War, the colours of red and white were given to him by Coca-Cola. n.n He's based on a candy-shop owner. Anyhow, maybe he'll be the more miserly Santa Claus who resembled a pope."

Sigh, this old chestnut. We had this same story come up a couple years ago, and so I'll say again that Coca-Cola did NOT invent the modern image of Santa Claus, including the red and white colors. They helped spread it, but it was already the most accepted version of Santa Claus by the time Coke started using it in their ads. Click on my name for a full history.

I tried to write a story about how Santa Claus would fit into the Gargoyles universe last year, based on what little is known about the historical St. Nicolas. I never finished it, but the idea I had was that Nicolas was basically a spoiled rich kid until he met a gargoyle and learned about protection, which in his mind translated to charity. I couldn't figure out a way to really fit gargoyles into it in a significant way, and with time catching up to me I eventually just gave up on it.

I've sometimes wondered whether Season Two Volume One might have sold better if it had been under a different title - say, "City of Stone and other stories", or something like that. What I mean is - could many potential buyers have decided to pass it up because of the "Volume One" part, thinking "I'll wait until the whole thing comes out first"?

SLG updated its production schedule page yesterday, but it isn't listed under "What's New". Gargoyles issue #2 is the only thing left unknown under December. (Not that I believe slg's website)

I had a discussion with html teacher about which is better: no website for a company or a website with bad info from the company. The former is preferred.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

I'm not sure I buy into this, but I've heard it suggested that bootlegs can actually be beneficial to a cause such as ours. The theory being that if bootleggers are doing tons of business selling (for example) Gargoyles episodes, Disney will take notice and understand that there is a market for them. They would realize that they could themselves be raking in all this money that's currently going into the pockets of illegal bootleggers. The end result being that Disney would put out an official release to meet market demand that was previously only met illegally.

(Click my name for a link to an article (over a year old) that lays out this argument in relation to Disney Theme Park videos and Song of the South.)

You'd think Ebay would bother to have rules against this sort of stuff. They don't seem to have any rules against selling stolen artifacts, either, because they keep showing up on Ebay.
Vaevictis Asmadi

What aggrivates me is that Disney has torn down a lot of music videos and members who posted music videos of their movies. I understand, there is a copyright infringment issue but...
1.) They are not the actual movie, per say. But rather are very editted down. They go from being a 1-2 hour movie with dialoge, musical numbers, and music score, down to a 5 minute video without the original dialoge (least for a majority of videos) and new music.
2.) The videos have no value on the market, legal or illegal. No one sells fan music videos.
3.) There are a lot of people who actually post actual clips from movies, even entire movies cut up into 10 minute intervals...and yet, many of them remain untouched.

All this really bothers me. Disney spends so much time lately on YouTube, they aren't fighting the REAL piracy. It would be like the cops just busting the kids for having illegal drugs, but never going after the suppliers...thus the problem is never solved.
Frankly, music videos are free commercials for movies, IMO.

I've reported these sellers to both Disney and Ebay(when I found bootlegged copies on the auction site). Its because people choose to buy bootleg over the official and LEGAL versions that we haven't see Season 2 Part 2 come to DVD. I wouldn't give that guy a bent penny for those DVDs. I want to support the show by buying the official DVDs...as any TRUE FAN would.

I wondered why disney didn't go after them yet thehey seem to go after everyone esle who even *look* like they are copying off their work even though it's harmless (like that school who made beauty and the beast t-shirts awhile back for their graduation if I remember correctly)

I'm sorry to hear about Dave Cochrum; it's always sad when good creative talent dies.

Concerning Santa Claus, maybe the Garg-verse Santa Claus won't be the Coca-Cola one. The modern Santa Claus is derrived from political cartoons, or newspaper comics, I forget, from around the American Civil War, the colours of red and white were given to him by Coca-Cola. n.n He's based on a candy-shop owner. Anyhow, maybe he'll be the more miserly Santa Claus who resembled a pope.

Also, I'd like to apologise for being so... argumentative. I hadn't realised I was being so belligerent until I reread all the posts. So, I'm sorry.

And on another note entirely, does anyone know anything about the Chinese clan, other than the name of the location and the fact that they "breed" gargoyle beasts?

Geeez, there are some people in here who really love to bitch... about everything... it's getting old. *shrugs* I'm not naming names, but anyone who reads this and thinks I'm talking about them is probably right. Everyone just calm down. It's a comic. It'll come out when it comes out, or it won't. Stop whining about the delays or the art or the communication issues. Everyone wants this comic to succeed, okay? Lets be grateful for what we have. Most of the series on DVD, Greg being a great fandom leader and working again on new Gargoyles material, an popular annual convention, and now a comic book series. Sure, there are issues. Shit happens. But, really, I'd say we may be in a Second Golden Age for the Gargoyles fandom. Lets not waste this time bickering among ourselves and complaining about glitches and insignificant details.

Just get out there, be a good Gargoyles fan, and SPREADTHE WORD!!

Hmmm, some people must have vastly different definitions of the word "defensive." Ah, well.

Todd: I too wonder what Santa would look like in the Gargoyles universe. I'm actually working on something now that involves a Santa-like figure, and physically it's a combination of characteristics from the Dickensian spirit, the religious figure of Saint Nicholas, and the secular figure of Santa Claus. I personally think it would be cool to see Santa on a horse.

"Yeah, I'll buy one or two copies when they do, but it won't be the end of the world if no more get released."

Well, no, few things are actually the end of the world. But I for one would be really, really disappointed after all this. I loved this show. And I know it's a miracle we're getting comics at all, but it would break my heart if all we got was one (and not even a *new* one at that).

I'm not surprised it's not coming out this week. That seemed a little too good to be true when all other indications said next week or later. But I have to have faith it's coming out eventually.

In the meantime, maybe we could stop with the "I-told-you-so"s and the "I've-been-reading-comics-forever-so-I-know"s? The truth is that none of us really knows until we hear from Greg and/or SLG. All we can do is speculate, albeit some of us with perhaps more background knowledge than others.

Kaylle

Matt & Warcrafter> I'm not complaining about the delays because I truly couldn't care less about whether or not they even come out. Yeah, I'll buy one or two copies when they do, but it won't be the end of the world if no more get released. But, it is a legitimate complaint when issue #2 was supposed to be out in August and the latest word is last week of Nov or into Dec.
Sure, it's just another week. Then next week, oh, something went wrong, it'll be one more week. And then, maybe next month. But why should we complain? After all, this is the first new material in over a decade. And then, gee, we're having trouble, maybe another month. (SLG: Look, everyone who wants Gargoyles is more than willing to wait longer. We can focus our efforts on other projects.) Well, it looks like it might make it to stores next month... Now it's 2 years later. All those, it's just another week/month, after all it's been over 10 years... really start to add up.

Ed (from last week)>"SLG is a small company. Now Gargoyles and Tron at least are much higher selling than the rest. That incurs extra costs to produce and distribute enough copies to meet the higher demand."
I'm confused. If they planned to print, say, 2000 copies, how would a higher demand than expected cause them to be unable to print the planned 2000 copies on time?

Matt - [St dot Louis, Missouri, USA]

Allright folks, I've explained this before, but I guess I need to again. I've worked in the comics industry for over 8 years now, and been a participant in it my whole life. I work month in and month out for Antarctic Press, and have done work for Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, Archie,Avatar, and many many other comic publishers... And this is how the industry works, accross the board.

Approcimatley four months in advance, publishers put together their chedule for what they have coming out in four months. So, it is December next week, and so publishers should be figuring out their April schedule at that point. (And the REALLY good companies are actually much further ahead than even that... But that pretty much only applies to Archie and Dark Horse, EVERYONE else, including Marvel and DC, really suck at this despite how long this has been the deal...)

So four months in advance, impending schedules are sent to Diamond for their catalog. IN THEORY, any books being being solicited at the point, should be finished, four months in advance. But this is basically, NEVER the case Every publisher always cuts its close on the deadlines. (Tho there are exceptions, its more the rule that books are finished last minute) But in theory, four months in advance, when books are solicited, they SHOULD be done.

Diamond then assembles and prints their monthly catalog, which is then sent out to retailers. This process takes about a month, so retailers recieve their catalogs about 3 months before a book comes out. Retailers look through these massive 300 page catalogs, and judging from ads, cover images and text, and requests from those that visit the store, decide on what they think they can sell, and make their orders.

These orders are then processed through diamond, and this process takes about a month and a half.

So a month and a half before a book is supposed to come out, the publishers get numbers of orders from the retailers, and that lets them set the print run. If everything is going smoothly and on schedule, and the books were done 2 and ahalf months prior like they were supposed to be, the publisher then goes to press, knowing how many copies of the issue they need to print, and copies of the book are made. From the printer, the copies then go either to the publisher, or to Diamond. Diamond then ships out the copies, and this part of the process takes 2-4 weeks, depending on the printer and the shipping.

So, if all goes well, the books come out exactly on time. This of course, almost never happens. Artists take too long t draw a book, or a writer has 12 other projects to work on, someone gets in a car accident, someone is just lazy, stuff happens. Very often, and I mean, VERY often, by the time a publisher gets numbers for a book, due to a stacked schedule and being behind in previous months, sometimes the issue that is due to go t print at that point has not even been started yet. Yes, even though a book was solicited 4 months in advance, sometimes, production on it doesn't begin until after its due. It happens. A lot.

because of this, Diamond Distibution keeps retailers up to date with their website release, and also physical paper copies. Diamond bases their expected release date on when the publisher TELLS them to expect it. Usually, the website does not list anything until a book is at the Diamond warehouse and within the shipping system, and thus, almsot guaranteed to be out within the next two weeks.

In my experiance, and I check the list religiously ever week on Wensdays, (because its my job to do so, as well as hit up the comic store on Wensday when new books come out) Diamond is pretty damn accurate usually. Very often, the worst that happens is, a book comes out BEFORE they say so by a week, because it shipped uickly or to certain areas. (Viz mangas almost always arrive here a week BEFORE the Diamond lists say so, for instance.)

Of course, Diamond deals with THOUSANDS of comics, novels, games, figures, posters, wallscrolls, mini-busts a month. So obviously, every now and again, the list will be innacurate or make oversights. This is usually however, due to shipping troubles, or the publisher giving an innacurate shipping date. The most recent and biggest example of this was Civil War number 4, which Marvel dropped the ball on and it screwed their entire schedule and pissed off a lot of people, because Marvel DIDN'T TELL ANYBODY. The Civil War issue was supposed to come out a certain date, and then the day before they announced the book (and their entire line) would suffer a massive delay. That was a problem on the publisher's end.

So, miscommunications can come from a variety of places. The publisher, Diamond, or the shipping comanies, or even the printer. But Diamond is really pretty damn good about it. There's a reason theyre the ONLY comic distrubutor left. (10 years ago there were several other big distrubutors and Diamond wasn't the only game around, now, they are.)

Of course, if this all sounds ludicrous and crazy, consider this. Books and novels, are scheduled 8 months in advance, and are usually finished ahead of time. Music CDs are schedules about 6 months in advance. Video Games are schedule 12-18 months in advance. DVDs are scheduled way in advance, Disney has their schedule of classic aniamted re-releases planned TEN YEARS in advance.

I could go on and on about this, but I think thats enough explanation for now...

Robby

Surprises me that no one mentioned this, considering that Greg W. worked in comics before . . . but, word came to me last night that Dave Cockrum -- one of the more influential writers/creators for both Marvel and DC -- died this past weekend due to complications of diabetes.

Dave was in part responsible for the revival of the X-Men -- starting back with GIANT-SIZED X-MEN #1, and more specifically with the creation of characters like Nightcrawler.

We fans will miss Mr Cockrum's talent and vision. He was one of the greats, surely.

Rest in peace, Dave.

With December almost here, I find myself recalling Greg Weisman's mention of how he'd planned to do a story featuring Santa Claus in "Gargoyles", and I'm still curious as to just how he'd have done that. You've got to admit, it's difficult to imagine the guy in the red suit fitting into a relatively dark and serious adventure-drama series, as opposed to a "cute and quirky"-style cartoon. Of course, before "The Mirror" came out, we probably had a hard time imagining a mischief-loving faerie trickster like Puck showing up in "Gargoyles" either. Whatever the case, I hope that Greg gets to tell that story in the comic, eventually.

I don't think we can reliably assume anything about why the book was pushed back a week from Diamond's stated ship date. Keep in mind that SLG's site had the comic coming out in December for a few weeks, which would indicatethat they knew it would be coming out next month before Diamond did. I do not see this as eing a problem, since before the Diamond shipping list came out, we were expecting issue #2 in December. This seems more like a minor flub than another real delay. Barring any more unforseen problems, we're in the home stretch on issue #2.
Demonskrye

Okay, comic has been pushed back a week, I checked Diamond's lists:

http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/expected_120606.txt

Which means, SLG probably failed to deliver the second issue to Diamond's printers on time. This happened with issue one too, as I recall.

Hey everyone!

The German gargoyles-fandom is getting international ;-)
2007 is now the third year in a row that we (that means some dedicated fans) plan, organize and print a Gargoyles Calendar. 2007th's calendar is a special one because this year, many well known international artists contributed to it!

The calendar is a complete non-profit project and only exists to keep the spirit of the gargoyles alive.

Calendars are now available!
If you're interested please have a look at the calendar's website for more info on the participating artists, a small preview and ordering details.
