It was also the will of fate (or it could be argued that it was). As it was the Phoenix Gate that initiated the loop of the Archmage rescuing himself and which in turn brought him to the sisters to rescue him. He did it because he saw his future self do it.

The sisters could simply have been following what was fated to happen.

Aldrius

Greg W I believe, also confirmed before that revenge wasn't the only reason for them to follow the Archmage. Following his commands afterall allowed for them to be on Avalon (as they were banished).
Antiyonder

I wonder if we caught a glimpse of the "Grace" aspect at the end of "City of Stone" when the Sisters talk Macbeth out of killing Demona and Demona into giving Xanatos the access code. Yes, they had ulterior motives, linked to the "Fate" and "Vengeance" aspects, but maybe their reasons were more complex beneath the surface.
Todd Jensen

Weird Sisters definitely are one of the more arcane characters, I could watch a series reboot I think u cant expect it to stay the same after 15 years but definitely is hard because you have to capture the ehart of the original series
Andres - [escodr3s at yahoo dot com]
Andres

Remember the three aspects of the Weird Sisters. Grace; fate; and fury. We've seen fate and fury ascendent, but we have yet to see the grace. Greg also said they have a "tri-part mission."

So yes, something else is up. We still don't have their full story.

Demona likes Buffalo Wings.

In any case, I'm not sure the Weird Sisters were ever really out to kill the Manhattan Clan. The Avalon Clan, sure, but it doesn't seem like they have any issues with the gargoyles in Manhattan.

I wonder who would have gotten top billing for the writing if the "Weird Macbeth" story had been made - the scriptwriters who handled the "Gargoyles" portion of the story, or Shakespeare?
Todd Jensen

Weird Macbeth> We also don't really know how much of a "threat" trapping the gargs in a play would be. The one most at risk seems to be Hudson, who was supposed to play Duncan in the play, but he dies off stage so maybe that's not an issue.

I always thought it was telling that the original name of the episode was supposed to be Puck's Macbeth, since "trapping people in a play" seems far more like something Puck would do than the Weird Sisters. But I expect there were good reasons for the change.

Supermorff

Dragomir> Can't answer on why they would risk Oberon's wraith, but there was one particular story which was planned before Season 2 end.

The story was a 2 part episode titled "The Weird Macbeth". The story would have The Weird Sisters trapping them in the Shakespeare story Macbeth.

Algernon's comment about Norman Osborn: One of the neat things about Dark Reign is that it gives Osborn the chance to expand his horizons beyond tormenting a twenty nine year old who still lives with his mom.

Here's a question I wanted to Ask Greg but hopefully you guys may be able to answer...Now that the Weird Sister's plans to get revenge on the Avalon Gargs have been foiled and Oberon has returned, are they no longer any threat to the Manhattan Clan or Demona and MacBeth? I mean, with Obi declaring peace with the gargs and everything on the island being under control it doesn't seem like they could seek payback even if they wanted to...Would they risk Oberon's wrath to seek the Manhattan Clan's death once more or is everything said and done? They really have no need for Demona or MacBeth anymore anyway if they aren't going after the gargoyles anymore (plus they removed the spell of control they had over them as part of being allowed to go by Goliath).
Dragomir

<Greg> Right, I understand.

B. We could point you to the answer from the archives.

Take care of the remaining questions? Is that why the Ask Greg Weisman thing also says that the last update was dot dot dot?

It says the last update for Ask Greg was on Jun 4 at 4:31 P.M. I visit the latest respones for the Ask Greg questions and the last person to ask a question to Greg was in November.

NinjaSheik

NinjaSheik> Because he wants to take care of the remaining questions and he's busy, but a word of advice.

Make sure that you ask your question here first in the event that someone else could answer. And please make sure that the question hasn't been answered before. Much of the flood of questions could have been avoided if previous posters took those precautions.

I wanted to ask this for some time now since I came to Station Eight, but why isn't Greg Weisman accepting anymore questions for his "Ask Greg"?

I was so hoping to ask him a few questions I need for my story, and to find out more to his up-coming works.

IS is because he's working on Young Justice, or he just quit doing it?

NinjaSheik

Rebel> The New Olympians was originally developed by Bob Kline.
Supermorff

I'd give an organ to see the Dark Ages made into a show. That would be amazing. I absolutely love medieval mythology, Hudson and Malcolm heading the cast would be great to see, as well as a younger Goliath and a host of other characters that we haven't even met (thanks to Hakon). New Olympians wouldn't be as high on my list as TimeDancer, 2198, or possibly Pendragon, but I'd still love it. The main thing keeping it lower on my list is the fact that we wouldn't see as much of the cast that we already know and love so much, and it'd be a bit foreign for the most part. Still, it'd be great.
lvl_27 Cubone
Does the sky need a name? Does the river?

Oh, I wouldn't mind seeing a New Olympian comic or show (it would be a good way to reintroduce the gargoyle franchise), I just wish one of the two main characters planned for it was a gargoyle, or else something that can't be easily mistaken for a garg. OH, I also love the idea of a Dark Ages TV show, which would be an even better way to relaunch Gargoyles since we'd see some of our fave gargs back in medieval Scotland, before the Vikings wiped out the bulk of the clan (including a less evil Demona and a bunch of new garg characters).

And yes Greg, I DID buy the comic u_u

Dragomir

I wonder if Greg (or whoever originally conceived of The New Olympians) has given any thought to re-pitching it. It's a solid idea, and one that I think I'd enjoy watching a show about, whether or not we ever saw any Gargoyles.
Rebel

And "The New Olympians" has the additional advantage that it's based on a concept familiar even to non-Gargoyles fans: classical mythology. You don't have to have seen the show to get the concept: a hidden civilization of the descendants of the gods and monsters of classical myth decides to make contact with the modern world.
Todd Jensen

Dragomir> Keep in mind that The New Olympians was actually created and pitched before Gargoyles. When Greg and co. were doing the World Tour they decided to fold the Olympians into the Gargoyles universe.

Personally I think the fact that The New Olympians concept is so self-contained makes it one of the best prospects for getting a Garg related series back on the air. They could pretty much introduce it as a brand new franchise and then start gradually adding Gargoyles elements once it becomes established.

Algernon

I wouldn't mind seeing "Dark Ages", given my fondness for the Gargoyles take on the Middle Ages. Though I suspect that any television revival of "Gargoyles" would have to be on cable, which I don't have (and am unlikely to get any time soon; too many pushy telemarketers prejudiced me against it).

For continuing the present-day story, I'd prefer the graphic novel format.

Todd Jensen

<<I heard the Slave Labor Garg comics were canceled...Very sad to hear that )8>>

Were you buying it?

Greg Bishansky
Demona likes Buffalo Wings.

In regards to the New Olympians, will there be any gargoyles as part of the main cast when and if the comic ever gets going? I heard the Slave Labor Garg comics were canceled...Very sad to hear that )8

I remember reading about this character called Sphinx and I loved her design but...Found her looking too much like a Gargoyle or a Mutate to NOT be one or the other (she's apparently pure New Olympian...nothing wrong with that of course, but I kinda expected to see a gargoyle as one of the main characters in a Gargoyle Spinoff series)

Dragomir

I don't mind seeing new characters, just as long as our favorites Gargoyles are still alive.

I really do hope Greg Weisman will continue the Gargoyles series in the comics. There's so much we can learn from them, and so many unanswered questions!

NinjaSheik

Greg mentioned before that several new people were able to enjoy the comic despite lack of familiarity with the show, and that he wrote a certain way to take precaution.

For instance, Sevarius makes an appearance at the end of Bad Guys #2, whom of course the new fans won't recognize. But that's ok, because the next issue gives us the essential details on him.

But to play the devil's advocate, on which shows could stand on their own:

1. Dark Ages: It's a prequel, so there won't be any baggage from the main series.

2. Gargoyles 2198: Takes place long after most of the original characters pass away. And since Alex's capture prevents Owen from transforming back into Puck, there will be no need to explain his true nature right away.

3. New Olympians: This was intended for a series long before Gargoyles and providing that it's incorporation in the Garg Universe doesn't change the story plans, it could work on it's own.

Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]
Algernon's comment about Norman Osborn: One of the neat things about Dark Reign is that it gives Osborn the chance to expand his horizons beyond tormenting a twenty nine year old who still lives with his mom.

<I suspect the animation style would be different and I bet we'd lose many of our favorite voice actors, but I could deal with it.>

The animation style I can deal with, but...I don't think I could deal with the voice actors. It's just...It doesn't feel the same. I mean, once I hear voice of a certain character and that voice fits, I want that voice actor to keep reprising his/her role.

I'm used hearing the voice actor, and I think that voice actor is a part of the character it's playing.

I can't explain, really...I guess what I'm saying is that I'll be sad.

NinjaSheik

If Greg were involved, I wouldn't mind a reboot. Granted the first two (three?) seasons would basically be re-telling us stuff that we (as hardcore fans) have seen before. But that's okay. If the series lasted beyond that point, then we'd get to see new material. I could sit through two or three seasons of re-tellings of Gargoyles stories if it meant a chance at new material once it's done.

I suspect the animation style would be different and I bet we'd lose many of our favorite voice actors, but I could deal with it.

Rebel

I agree. Dark Ages would be the perfect choice to start a new series with, before moving onto Brooklyn's TimeDancer. However, it wouldn't hurt to make a few episodes from Bad Guys. I would like to hear Yama's voice again. I miss him.

Pendragon might follow up after the whole TimeDancer thing, since none of the main characters are in, but I love King Arthur and Griff.

Gargoyles 2198 would have to follow somewhere after TimeDancer episodes, if they want to make a new season. The way I see it, if they're going to make a series, TimeDancer must go first, because Gargoyles 2198 have part of Brooklyn's adventures in it.

However, the whole talk about the series thing seems unlikely. Don't get me wrong, I want Gargoyles back as much as the next person.

I hope when and if they will start a new series, the graphics in the show will be sharper and newer, since the cartoon was made a long time ago and now they can advance the graphics into a newer and sharper format.

Like Inuyasha for example, see how the series first began and the grpahics became sharper with all the new seasons.

Anyway, how long has it been since Bad Guys been out? 3 years, since I think it was released in 2007?

NinjaSheik

Dark Ages would work, but I think a new Gargoyles 2198 TV series would be fantastic. It'd have mostly new characters and settings so people wouldn't necessarily feel like they're missing anything.

But I don't think backstory would ever be a problem for Greg. He's very good at juggling multiple audiences. He could certainly write a new Gargoyles show that starts in 1997 and is welcoming to new viewers as well as appealing to hardcore fans. After all, in the very first episode, Gargoyles flashed back 1,000 years before the primary storyline. It thrust the audience into a complicated backstory from the very beginning and slowly revealed additional snippets of meaning over the course of the series. Complicated backstory is the nature of Gargoyles and its appeal.

Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Kinda slow, so I'll toss out some comments.

News of the return of Thundercats doesn't really encourage me as a Gargoyles fan. Maybe it's because I'm very specific about what I want. I don't want a reboot or a new version of the series (that's what Thundercats seems to be). I want a direct continuation of the original series. And I don't see that ever happening as an animated series for a couple of reasons:
1) It's been almost fifteen years since the show ended. They can't continue where they left off; they'd have to do too much catching up.
2) What to do with the comics. If they were interested in a continuation and not a re-boot, would they continue the show from where the comics left off? Not likely. Should they re-tell Clan-Building in animated form? If so, how could they adapt it (the Stone of Destiny story would have to be told completely differently)? And would that make the comic book version of the story less canon in favor of the animated version?

I think now that we've gone down that path, the only realistic way the original series could continue is in comic book form. And that's not a bad thing.

As for an animated Gargoyles series, if someone did want to bring the property back to life, I think it would be best to go with the Dark Ages spin-off, since its a prequel and there's no pre-existing baggage or complicated backstory to explain.

Your thoughts?

Brooksbabe> Thanks for the author-tip . . . As it would turn out, I probably won't be trying to read the Purgatorio and the Paradisio until later this summer (and I'm continuing my hiatus from A Thousand & One Arabian Nights) as I just recently got wind that Roddy Doyle's final book in The Last Roundup -- The Dead Republic just came out, and I'm rereading the first two in the series (A Star Called Henry and Oh, Play That Thing) before I go buy the new book.

I first read parts one and two in the Last Roundup series four years ago and I've been anxiously waiting for the third, so once I'm done with Doyle's Irish epic, I'll definitely look into finding the Allen Mandelbaum translation ;)

There is no Gathering being planned for 2010. Last year's convention in L.A. was the last for the foreseeable future for the organizers of The Gathering of the Gargoyles.
Patrick
"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." - Willy Wonka

There won't be a Gathering for 2010. 09 was the last one, sad to say. I was actually pondering a Gargoyles movie today. Hopefully some marketing could be done of the DVD's (resulting in part 2 of season 2 FINALLY), maybe a toy series, and of course, the comic. I doubt it'd resurface as a show, but who knows? I'm pretty sure Keith and Thom would definitely want to be in on it, and Ed's always been reliable about voicing. (Plus, he voiced my favorite character in the show, and the main character for a movie that literally changed my life).

My question is what format would it be in? 2D would be cool, but we've seen it before, and it's not really thriving at the moment. I doubt it's in Disney's interest. 3D would be interesting, and would be great if done right. Live action with prosthetics seems a bit old fashioned nowadays, but doable, but I'd prefer CG over it. Live action could be cool, but they'd have to be CAREFUL. This is of course if there's ever a movie planned anyway.

Maybe someday,...

Yeah, I know, Antiyonder. It's just that...Well, I miss Gargoyles. That's all. I wish the next comic will come out soon...

Oh hey, does anyone know when's the next Gathering for 2010?

NinjaSheik

NinjaSheik> For the time being, there's no incentive to air Gargoyles at an earlier time in the day. The show is over a decade old, it's not popular or even moderately well known.

If there was a Gargoyle movie, it might prompt Disney to air it at viewable hours, but even then that doesn't mean it will be so.

Antiyonder

I hope so, Algernon. It totally sucks that Gargoyles only shows on Disney XD, in like three in the morning!

I mean, how is like anyone suppose to watch in three in the morning? It's so stupid...

NinjaSheik

NinjaSheik> I know for a fact that Hasbro is working on a live action Jem & The Holograms movie. If freaking Jem & The Holograms can be revived after over twenty years of being little more then a animation history footnote, then by Marduk there's hope for Gargoyles yet!
Algernon

Wouldn't it be great if they made a real Gargoyles movie?
NinjaSheik

NinjaSheik> Just depends on if they are occupied with other jobs should the hypothetical event happen.

But as for ones keeping busy, aside from Marina Sirtis' role as Queen Bee (Young Justice), theres (as I'm aware of):

- Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star (Spongebob Squarepants)
- Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs (also Spongebob Squarepants)
- Diedrich Bader as Batman (Batman The Brave and The Bold)
- Cree Summers as Storm (The Super Hero Squad)

Antiyonder

It's good to know that Gargoyles voice actors are keeping busy. You think they'll reprise their roles if Gargoyles decided to make a new season or movie?

I'm not saying it'll happen, I'm just wondering.

NinjaSheik

Incidently, Despero was another character voiced by Keith David, to be voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson later. Granted Kevin voiced the character in another continuum (Batman The Brave and The Bold), but an small interesting coincidence nonetheless.
