There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

The Geek Partnership Society, a geek culture nonprofit in the Twin Cities, held an awesome Gargoyles-themed room party at Anime Detour this weekend: https://picasaweb.google.com/gargoylesnews/GeekPartnershipSocietyGargoylesThemedRoomPartyAtAnimeDetour02?authuser=0&feat=directlink

They said they're planning an encore at CONvergence.

Pirates are almost always more democratic. So it is no surprise if Canmore had anything to do with Democracy.

Well, Parliament back then would have been simply the nobles and leading bishops, rather than Parliament in a modern sense. I don't know when the notion of non-aristocrats in Parliament got started in Scotland, but it began in England in the latter half of the 13th century when Simon de Montfort invited some merchants from the leading towns to Parliament in 1265 - and even then, they probably just sat near the back and listened while the nobles made all the decisions, and I doubt that the Scots started on it earlier.

King Canmore, champion of democracy!

I recently bought a book called "Brewer's Britain and Ireland" at the local used bookstore; it's filled with entries on every notable place in Britain and Ireland, and all the history and legends connected with them - an utter delight.

One of the entries was about Forfar, a town in Scotland (Angus, to be precise, thirteen miles from Arbroath - where Macbeth and his associates took the Stone of Destiny after the 1950 Christmas theft/recovery), which was, among other things, said to be where Canmore presided over a major Scottish parliament (the book gives its date as 1097, but that must have been a typo; Canmore died in 1093); the town even has a street named "Canmore Street".

After reading that last part, I had a creativity demon of Canmore Street's sign getting periodically vandalized, always at night, and to the bewilderment of the local police, whoever or whatever demolished it must have been immensely strong and left clawmarks gouged in the walls and pavements in the area. Then someone says that he saw the vandal at work one night - a monster with batlike wings, red hair, and glowing red eyes to match - and is immediately asked "You saw it on your way home from the pub, right?"

Sf Debris has done some reviews of Gargoyles before and they've always been quite good (as well as pretty funny), the same can be said for his latest review of Deadly Force. Check it out:

I have nothing more to say...So why am I still talking?

This is not the place to ask questions to Greg Weisman.

But to give you a serious answer, the implants would most likely turn to "stone" since things a Gargoyle considers their own generally do this.

Question to Mr. Weisman:
If a female Gargoyle decided to get a boob job, would the silicone also turn to stone during the day? I was wondering about this, because the breast implant could be damaged if it's surrounded by stone and damaged implants are a serious health issue.

I am totally serious!

ALGERNON - Maybe. It was just something I found myself wondering - whether in the original version, Castaway and his followers didn't attack the passenger train, and possibly even dropped out of the story (or close to it) after the bomb trap in the beginning.

The attack on the train does have a "What was the guy possibly thinking?" tone, of course; Angela and Bronx (the only gargoyles whom Castaway thinks survived) are both in secure custody, so the "gargoyle threat" is apparently over, and there's no longer any need for the Quarrymen to continue (at least, if it really was about protecting the city from the "monsters" as they claimed, but don't believe, judging from the nature of their traps and Castaway's boast that he knew the gargoyles would come to the aid of people in danger). Apparently Castaway had fallen victim to one of the biggest super-villain mistakes out there - "It's not enough that the hero gets defeated; I want to kill him personally. I want the pleasure of ending his life myself." (All that they needed to complete that would be Castaway making it clear that he'd kill any of the other Quarrymen who killed Goliath, for depriving him of that longed-for moment - but I doubt that would have made it past S&P.)

Sometimes, Todd, I think you put more thought into TGC than any of the actual writers did.

Please forgive me for bringing up the "Goliath Chronicles", but I recently found myself wondering something about "Angels in the Night".

We know that the original ending for this episode had the gargoyles giving up and running away, with Elisa changing her name and moving to Chicago with Goliath and Brooklyn and Lexington setting out on their own world tour, and that, fortunately, Greg Weisman talked the new production team out of taking that route. I recently wondered whether this original version included Castaway's attack on the train, or whether that only was added in after they came up with the new ending. Since the purpose of the Quarryman attack seemed to be to ensure a happy ending for the gargoyles (by exposing the Quarrymen's true nature as simple thugs - which "The Dying of the Light" and "For It May Come True" should have done - and revealing the gargoyles as protectors), I suspect that it was written in once they came up with the new ending.

Of course, we'll probably never know the truth; the new team who worked on the stories for "The Goliath Chronicles" probably didn't care enough about the series to remember what they did on it, and Greg Weisman had too little involvement to talk about its "behind the scenes" (and finds it painful, at that).
