Better throw in a Happy Birthday too before it becomes belated.

Thanks, Bishansky!

(And I don't consider it "belated"; it's still August 20th.)

Happy belated Birthday, Todd! Thanks for all of the edits!

ALGERNON - Thanks. A bit early, but taking into account the time difference. (Maybe I hadn't been paying enough attention, but I hadn't realized before now that you live in Ireland. I should have spotted that sooner, in light of your comments on Irish mythology in "Gargoyles" with Rory and Molly.)

Since it just turned midnight here in Oirland, I wanna wish a happy b-day to our resident Arthurian Todd Jensen...

Hope it's a guddun, my friend.

Algernon
I guard your death

Masterdramon> Correct! Suppose that one wasn't so hard, what with the poem structure and everything, but hey.

When I was translating that one, I got a few other amusing results:

"Macbeth his youth doth offer here" at one point became "Macbeth's teenager is here." Hmm... Was Luach messing with the Phoenix Gate or something?

And "By their acceptance are they consigned" became "By their acceptance they are shipped." Oh, I'm pretty sure that happens with or without their acceptance...

Ross

Across the mists of space and time,
we pose this covenant sublime.

Macbeth his youth doth offer here,
to make this one a force to fear.

While she with fang and claw and wing
doth swear sweet death his foes to bring.

By their acceptance are they consigned
unto each other's fate designed,
forever and eternal bound,
and each the other's pain resound.

"Try me." - Samus Aran

All right, last one.

"In the garden and the village time
We promise to pray for you.
Here is a little Macbeth girl,
Do not be afraid.
When they build parts
His death was to kill the enemy.
Distribution of propagation
All other features,
Always and forever
They were all hurt."

Ross

I suspect that gargoyles must find humans looking upon each other as outsiders, "not one of us", for having different-colored skin incomprehensible. Look at the multitude of hues that different gargoyles in the same clan bear.

Goliath's and Elisa's discussion in "Awakening, Part Three" is certainly relevant nowadays.

"I see no walls to guard this city. How do you protect it from invaders?"
"Well, our biggest worries aren't from outside; they're from inside."
"That, I am all too familiar with."

Matthew> I've sometimes found myself imagining certain people showcased on the news recently being tapped on the shoulder, turning around...

"Is that any way to treat your neighbor?"

Griff, Leo and Una fighting actual white supremacists on screen is a satisfying mental image these days.

Ross

I was reading a "Doctor Who" graphic novel from Titan Comics today, in which the Doctor and his companions were after a living gargoyle (actually, a human who'd been transformed permanently into a gargoyle - long story). In the opening scene, they encounter a young woman who's also investigating the gargoyle; she wears a red jacket, a black t-shirt, and blue jeans. The jacket was a different style than Elisa's (a bit closer to a winter jacket), but the similarity was still close enough that I wondered if the artist intended it as a reference.

At the risk of bringing politics in, I'm deeply upset over what has happened in Charlottesville this weekend. Gargoyles taught me at a young age the futility and self-destructiveness of hatred and I'm thankful for that.

Todd> Yep! Or, more specifically, "Dormiatis dum castellum super nubes ascendat!" With that one I just put it from Latin to English back and forth a couple times. Don't know why it became a question instead of a declaration.

Here's a new one:

"The trumpet, not a great calm. And, of course, are you in trouble? You are sons of sail."

Ross

I still haven't figured out the third one (I'll have to reread the Slave Labor Graphics "Gargoyles" comics, if that one's from them).

For the fourth one - "Till the castle rises above the clouds"?

A little hint for the last one: despite what the translation says, the original quote is in fact not from a Gargoyles story told through the animation medium.

Also, here's another one for today:

"Then lie on the rise in the castle?"

Ross

Todd> Right again!

Last one for tonight, might be a little harder:

"Ha ha. This is a cool weekly cartoon."

Ross

"A gargoyle can no more stop protecting the castle than breathing the air".
Todd Jensen

Todd> You got it!

"I can not breathe the air to prevent the security of the telephone."

Ross

"Pay a man enough, and he'll walk barefoot into Hell."

(I still find it amusing that that line's followed immediately by a close-up of one of the workers walking - though in shoes.)

Oh, and eighth.

Seven!

So, I've been doing some more playing around with Google Translate, and just for fun thought I might start a little game. I'm going to put various Gargoyles quotes through various languages, then post the results. See if you can deduce what they were originally!

Let's start with probably a fairly easy one:

"You are not going to go around the school's barefoot and hell to pay."

Ross

Yes, we know it is. The episodes are cut. The only way to see the uncut episodes is to buy the DVD's.

Also, The Goliath Chronicles are terrible. I am required by law to say this.

Five.

Ok, do you know, that Gragoyles is streaming in amazon.com?

There is Goliath chronicles too.

CakS

Two plus, times, or to the power of two, again.
