As a hobby I like to study and analyze fights and fighters in fiction and Demona is an interesting case. I'd have to agree with Greg that she's most likely not as strong as Goliath but more agile. One thing to consider is that while Goliath never defeated her in a fight he also carries a lot of emotional baggage when it comes to her and probably would hold back against her in a fight. (Not to mention Disney standards wouldn't really allow for a really brutal fight involving a woman, even if she was a villain.)

Demona's greatest assets behind her gargoyle strengths lie in the fact that she's far more willing to use weapons both modern and ancient in a fight, and shows proficiency with both. Not to mention she has some skill with magic, not to the level as the Archmage or Magus but enough to make her dangerous.

But the thing that makes her the most dangerous is undoubtedly her sociopathic nature that drives her to attempted genocide. Her functional immortality while a great asset also for the most part makes her reckless. Also she heavily relies on her gargoyle strength and weapons and when deprived of both she performs pretty poorly. As shown in High Noon when she transforms into a human and Elisa is able to handle her with basic hand to hand techniques.

This is another example of why she's a foil to Macbeth. Despite them both being immortal, using high-tech and archaic weaponry, and magic, Macbeth managed to grow as a warrior over the centuries to the point where he could match Goliath in a fight despite being an ordinary human (so to speak). Demona on the other hand has remained reckless, arrogant and foolhardy. As shown in Long Way to Morning despite being younger, stronger and packing some serious heat, Hudson was not only able to hold her off using nothing but his wits and an old sword but she failed to recognize that he was stalling until the dawn.

That's my analysis anyway.

BISHANSKY - Yes, the Demona mention helped the initial confusion. :)

JURGAN - That's not the only time Disney did a take-off of the solar eclipse. I've read a Donald Duck comic in which Donald and his nephews went back in time to Arthurian Britain (here based on the historical speculations about the roots of the Arthurian legend, with this Arthur being a Dark Age warlord rather than the familiar medieval king), where Arthur suspects Donald of being a Saxon spy and orders him beheaded. Donald begs his nephews to find a way of using an eclipse of the sun to save his life; they tell him, after checking their Junior Woodchucks Guidebook, "Then you have two options! Get them to pack up camp and move to Madagascar, or stay here and convince them to delay the execution for 237 years, five months, and -" "Never mind," sighs Donald.

JURGAN> Just like Avalon seemed to compensate, I think the phoenix would compensate for Brooklyn.

ZEROFIGHTER> "Hi guys Im a major fan of Demona, but Im curious about a few things"

No wonder Todd confused you with me. ;)

"1. Whats her skill level as a warrior? Like compared to Hudson and Goliath, is she on there level, above? Or who does she compare to someone from Young JUstice"

Elisa referred to Demona (and Macbeth) as two of the greatest warriors that ever lived. Even Goliath acknowledged he had never defeated her in a fight. Hudson acknowledged that he couldn't beat her, all he could do was hope to buy time til sunrise... which he did. It wouldn't help them after "The Mirror". As for how she would compare to someone from "Young Justice", well... who in "Young Justice" are we talking about, exactly? Also, DC and Marvel have such insane power levels already, I feel the power levels on "Gargoyles" are much more down to earth.

"2. Is she as fast and strong as Goliath? Like could we use Goliath feats of speed and strength to scale Demona?"

I find it hard to believe she is as physically strong as Goliath. Quicker and more agile, sure. But we've seen her pick up a boulder larger than herself and throw it fast, hard, and far in "Temptation". And she tore apart and threw a steel gate in "Hunter's Moon Part One".

"3. How strong would that Particle Beam canon she uses be? Like could it destroy a car, or a tank?"

Well, Tony Dracon was able to shoot through a tree and blow up a boulder with a particle beam pistol. One of the small models. Owen mentioned that there were various sizes, styles, and power ranges on the guns. Demona carries much larger models than hand guns, so make of that what you will. In "Hunter's Moon Part One" she did blow up that van by shooting the fuel tank. She also turned up the power to shoot through the car, itself.

As always, make of that what you will.

Brainiac: Oh, right. I guess I read that too fast, and maybe I thought Todd was saying he'd wake up during a solar eclipse? Who knows. Anyway, I've never read Connecticut Yankee, although I do remember the Darkwing Duck parody, where he had tried the eclipse trick a day early and had to stall for twenty-four hours.

I do wonder how timedancing would affect Brooklyn's sleep schedule, and how long it would take to adjust when landing in a new time period.

Jurgan, read what you quoted again very carefully along with what Todd had in parentheses after the portion you quoted.

Sorry I liked the look of the Avatar for Xanatos and red is one of my favorite colors

"Brooklyn would certainly have to rule out using the "eclipse gag" to save his life during his Timedancing, given that he'd be in stone sleep during a solar eclipse."

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't, given that stone sleep is based on day/night cycles, not the actual presence of light. Remember how "jet lag" affected them and they were still asleep hours after sunset?

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

KARRIN BLUE - Thanks. I'd vaguely heard something about that, but didn't know the details.

ZEROFIGHTER - Would you mind changing either your color or avatar or both, please? The combination of red print and Xanatos's avatar looks like Bishansky's posts; for a moment, I thought your post was his, before I saw your username. That makes it too confusing.

I'd assume Demona's more or less in the same "weight class"

Business as usual...

Hi guys
Im a major fan of Demona, but Im curious about a few things
1. Whats her skill level as a warrior? Like compared to Hudson and Goliath, is she on there level, above? Or who does she compare to someone from Young JUstice

2. Is she as fast and strong as Goliath? Like could we use Goliath feats of speed and strength to scale Demona?

3. How strong would that Particle Beam canon she uses be? Like could it destroy a car, or a tank?

That would be Arturia Pendragon, aka 'what if King Arthur was secretly a girl', from Fate/stay Night.

MASTERDRAMON - Who is that person the link leads to? (I'm not enough of an anime expert to identify her.)

Ninth I...think?

Matthew: Ooooh, delicious. I'm already in this for the long haul (pre-ordered the first year of DC Universe thanks to the bonus 3 months included, so I'm basically paid up for 15 months minimum one way or another), so as a "customer" I've been mostly pleased by all the info today, both on new and legacy titles. The selection of digital comics available on launch day is especially appealing.

That clip takes the cake, though. Not at all surprised that's the direction they went with
Babs, considering it essentially allows them to have their cake and eat it too; spotlighting her unique, affirming, and iconic turn as Oracle, while comfortably slotting all the...messy details into the time skip.
Todd: Heaven knows how he'd react in the mid-2000s, where a Google search for his own name would turn up at least half the images looking like this version of the King of Knights:

Sorry to interrupt this Arthurian discussion. But we just got a new clip for Young Justice:

I suspect that Arthur was focusing on the books written about him in the Middle Ages (the one specific book we see in that pile was Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur") rather than the more recent works like Twain's, though who knows? (He'd probably be even more shocked by "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".)

Brooklyn would certainly have to rule out using the "eclipse gag" to save his life during his Timedancing, given that he'd be in stone sleep during a solar eclipse. (A lunar eclipse, on the other hand....)

Todd Jensen

We know from Clan Building, Chapter Eight: Rock & Roll that Arthur was doing research on himself, and I can easily believe that Mark Twain's novel might have been one of the books he read.

Maybe that was one of the books he was thinking of when he said "All things are true... Few things are accurate."

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

I'd like to imagine Arthur himself came across this story during his travels, and was more than just a little bit confused and indignant over how he's portrayed.

Seventh.

TODD> If someone in the cast hadn't read "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" at the very least, I'd be fierce disappointed.

Algernon
It will suffice.

Sixth.

I watched the re-aired Ken Burns documentary on Mark Twain last night on PBS, which was narrated by Keith David. I'd forgotten that he was the narrator until I heard his voice at the beginning (or I'd have posted about it here yesterday), but that got me wondering whether Goliath has ever read any of Mark Twain's works, as he has Shakespeare and Dostoyevsky.

I take the fifth on whether or not I have as yet had time to partake, but regardless, since you brought it up about a month ago, Paul...
