More the latter than the former, since it skews a little older. I found many episodes of it quite entertaining.

So just cause it's leaving Netflix and going onto Disney Plus, don't suppose anyone here is a fan of Sofia the First and/or it's spinoff Elena of Avalon (On plus since launch with the remainder up in 2021)?

Alex> Aside from the flashback stuff, we also had that brief snippet of Demona retrieving the Praying Gargoyle crystal. Though I wouldn't call that a story either.
So I watched the 2014 Radio Play, had never listened to it before (the format's a little confusing honestly, I tried to find the script but I couldn't). I thought it was funny that I guess Vandal Savage is both a high ranking member of the Light AND the Illuminati. That sounds like a lot of work.

But uh, more to the point, it seems like we COULD find out something about what Demona's history is with the Illuminati. I never really even thought about it much before, but she must be at least vaguely aware of them and vice-versa (maybe a former member? maybe a current member? was she the one who introduced Thailog to someone in the illuminati?). Pretty exciting, could be a good Demona story (technically we haven't had a new Demona story since "Hunter's Moon", just the flashback stuff in Clanbuilding).
Phoenician>
I imagine the Ishimura Clan has double security with the clan and the local humans acting as security for the rookery. Loch Ness probably has hiding places as old as the Megalith that they probably take advantage of. As for the others, who knows?
PHOENICIAN -
Technically, Demona's only broken into the Eyrie Building once ("City of Stone"). We don't know as yet whether Xanatos found out about that secret entrance behind the tapestry or not; if he did, he'd definitely have had it blocked up to keep her from getting in that way again (especially since that same story saw the end of their alliance).
Todd Jensen
I know we've speculated in the past on just how aware Demona might be when it comes to other eight clans outside of New York City, but given that (until mentioned otherwise) they each should all have healthy-numbered rookeries set to hatch in spring 1998, I'm curious how well-guarded and hidden those rookeries are (and 'healthy' is a flexible term, all things considered). We know, for example, that its canon-in-training that the Mayan Clan must have a well-hidden rookery, given that those eggs survived even after the clan's recent massacre.

Anyways, if Demona is, in fact, one of these many 'nefarious factions', then I suspect Eggwardo's at real risk not just because the egg is kin, but because the Eyrie Building historically has never been able to keep Demona out.
Oh, ah man, I KNEW there was a reason why that date was sticking out to me (besides Pearl Harbor, as Todd already noted):
My first thought on reading the tease for the new Gargoyles comic was that someone had mixed up the description with one for a reprint of one of the Marvel comics. There was an issue with Demona trying to safeguard a gargoyle egg. Also she was head of a cult of, I think, Chinese martial artists. To quote DBZA Vegeta: "This is so non-canon it hurts.
MATTHEW -
What was the first time?

Vandal Savage's Gargoyles Universe counterpart would most likely be the Illuminati - the same tone of "been around for a long time, manipulating events behind the scenes, and even their name echoing "light". ]/SPOILER]
Not surprising, this wouldn't be the first time a radio play was adapted to canon.
Matthew
Ain't nothing crazy 'bout me but my brain!

From that summary,
seems that the first story may be an adaptation of the 2014 CONvergence radio play, "Recruits" with the Spidey and YJ elements removed.

In that case, the group working to steal Egwardo was Demona, Vandal Savage, Queen Bee, and Doctor Octopus (with Electro, Jackal, and Hyena providing a distraction elsewhere and Black Cat being hired as a freelancer to help finish the other part of the job, that being the theft of the Hand of Valmont). It should be interesting to see who, if anyone, stands in for Vandal and his associates in this version of events. I have my own theories but will hold them close to the chest for now.
"Inside of every demon is a rainbow." - Charlie Morningstar

December 7 this year is one date that'll be living in the good kind of fame rather than infamy.
So everyone's after Egwardo? I can imagine a few candidates - the Illuminati, for example, and definitely Demona - who'd want to raise the gargoyle that hatches from the egg to become a loyal follower, far from the influence of Goliath and his fellow "fools".
PHOENICIAN - Thanks for the alert.
As I mentioned a few months back, I thought, when I saw how the Season Two finale was going, I thought that the shortened third season might work better - that it was clear that the Draining Spell and the Collector's release combined would mean little room for side-adventures - it'd be for "The Owl House" what Bill Cypher's freeing was for "Gravity Falls", the Burning Isles' version of "Weirdmageddon". Then, after the last few minutes of the finale, I thought that there definitely was room for side-episodes after all, in how Luz's friends would handle being the ones stuck in another world. Pity there won't be as much room for that, though the first special might give us a few glimpses of what might have been.
Todd Jensen

Much thanks! A reference to their post-"Clan-Building" expanded membership with "a family of gargoyles at full strength", and
someone's after Eggwardo/Tachi! Oh, no!
Just to be clear, we may never see all 10 covers. Dynamite is only talking about the first 6 covers to the press and they mentioned an approvals process. These might be placeholders that won't ever get released.

A slightly spoilery blurb for the new comic series: https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/OCT220542
Landon - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Diamond has populated their online catalog with due dates for all 10(!) covers of Gargoyles #1: https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/Series/148123-GARGOYLES (click 'Show Variants' to see them all), including a $100 aluminum cover. So some comic shops may be able to preorder now. This article: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/disneys-gargoyles-a-vicious-circle-on-next-weeks-previews-cover/ shows Gargoyles as the featured comic on the cover of that catalog, which is great news as it raises the visibility for the comic to shops. The article says the catalog will be available in comic shops on September 21st. I guess the preorder availability date depends on your local comic shop and when they update their pull list service, but I suspect we can preorder within a week.

December eh? I know what I'm asking for Christmas.

Ain't nothing crazy 'bout me but my brain!

December 7th. An actual date! Jalapeña, this is not a drill.

I've been contemplating a proper rewatch of the series and reread of the SLG comics, but with a date that can now be anticipated, I can start pacing myself accordingly :D

Oh, and for fellow Owl House fans -- October 15th!

Gus: "I always forget you're there." Hooty: "I forget I'm here toooooo."

Probably they have only the characters from the TV show on the covers for familiarity's sake, while still wanting Brooklyn's look to be up-to-date for accuracy. So we should expect to see Katana, Fu Dog and Nashville, and also Coldstone and Coldfire who rejoined the clan in the last issue.

SHANA - We don't know for certain, but given that one of the covers revealed yesterday showed Brooklyn looking like his post-Timedancer self, probably.

I discovered a page (can't find it now, though; I came across it on the local library's computer earlier today) that showed three pages (without dialogue; I don't know if they'll be that way in the finished version, or if the speech balloons will be added in) of what's presumably the first issue.
Elisa and Matt are pursuing a few crooks in a car; the gargoyles swoop in and pull the bewildered crooks out of the car, with Lexington then landing in the driver's seat and taking over the steering wheel.
Does anyone have any idea if Greg Weisman will be including Katana, Nash, Food Dog, etc in the new comics?

I've been enjoying the 'Young Justice: Targets' tie-in comics as well, especially all the amazing variant cover art from various artists. It's been a treat. I will say though that
the flashback-memories at the end of every issue seem very pointless. None of the Green Arrow/Perdita stuff is different from the Green Arrow Showcase that Greg made way back when, so why waste valuable pages on something we've already seen in detail? The Red Arrow one was new information, so that one was okay, but I wish they either emphasized the differences between the Showcase and Earth-16 more or had chosen a different story to have for the memories entirely. I know it's not complete yet and we might see some differences in the next two issues, but it still feels like a wasted opportunity
. Overall though, I am greatly enjoying the premise behind Targets and sincerely hope the comics can continue even if the show cannot. Fingers crossed!

"Inside of every demon is a rainbow." - Charlie Morningstar

Matthew: The impression I got was that the entire mine is full of Kryptonite, and Perdita just took a chunk as proof of concept to inform the Justice League without alerting nefarious forces.

Given that Kryptonite in Earth-16 is rare enough that Hawkwoman can reasonably consider the League to have accounted for all known sources in the galaxy, an entirely new deposit would be a gamechanger for the Light.

Masterdramon - [kmc12009 at mymail dot pomona dot edu]
"Inside of every demon is a rainbow." - Charlie Morningstar

The latest issue of Young Justice dropped yesterday, so once again, some quick thoughts on "Foreign Affairs."
So all these different schemes were because Perdita had a piece of kryptonite that was discovered in a mine Vlatava. And that kryptonite is being used to power Metallo. Interesting that he goes by Juan Cordero instead of John Corbin from the comics, also interesting that he shares the name with the 19th century painter.

The revelation that all these other events were just red herrings is interesting. But if this was all about getting ahold of some kryptonite, it'll feel really...small in comparison to other Light schemes. We've got two issues left so there's plenty of time for a secondary goal to be revealed.

And jeez, Match didn't look good back in 2015 and he's looking even worse here, which I didn't think was possible. I almost want this poor creature put out its misery at this point.
Thanks for the link, Landon.

I got a particular kick out of the last cover, with Bronx and a couple of dogs chasing an alarmed-looking cat - with a couple of just as alarmed pigeons flying away. (It reminds me of one of my crazier "Gargoyles" creativity demons, an encounter between the gargoyles and the Goodfeathers from "Animaniacs". Now that would be the Goodfeathers' worst nightmare.)

Well, that seems to answer whether it picks up right after "Clan-Building".

Phoenician - I haven't done a pull list or bought floppies regularly since the last Garg releases, so I'm out of practice. This is the site I've been refreshing: https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog You can see they still have the catalog for November releases and orders are due by the 18th. Then on the 18th or the 19th, Diamond will update the page with the October preorder catalog for December releases. I think by then, comic shops should be able to order for December. Hopefully we'll then get a clear picture of all the Gargoyles comics coming out this year as well.
Landon - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Landon: I was JUST asking my local comic shop Monday if they were able to order the new comic and able to add it to my pull list, but I guess I was literally two days early, lol. Will have to go back ASAP.

I see there's talk of the December Previews Catalog, but I don't see a date yet. Remind me: There's typically a two-month difference between a cover date and a release date, right? So does this mean we're expecting the first issue around December or sooner/later?

Also, they're really hiding Brooklyn's other eye, aren't they? d:

The Gargoyles #1 covers are out! https://bleedingcool.com/comics/dynamites-disney-gargoyles-comics-covers-includes-previews-catalog/

If I'm reading that right, they're saying issue #1 will have at least SIX variant covers! I'll have a hard time not buying all 6.

Do Lois and Iris have complicated pregnancy while having superhuman babies inside their wombs?
Dr. Elisa Schwartz
Dr.Schwartz MD OB GYN

Greg Weisman concluded, from his own time on "The Batman", that Ellen Yin's resemblance to Elisa was coincidental. (At least, nobody else on the production team brought up their dressing in similar outfits to him.)

I once saw a "Doctor Who" comic, though, in which the Doctor (the Christopher Eccleston version, I recall) was looking for a living gargoyle in England and encountered a young woman also searching for it; she initially dressed in a style close enough to Elisa's that I wondered if it was intended as a "Gargoyles" allusion, but later on switched to a different outfit.

Todd Jensen

I remember "The Batman" had a character that was obviously based on Eliza. But non-Greg shows that remind me of Gargoyles? I'd have to put some thought to that.

I think that people who enjoyed Gargoyles: Bad Guys - Redemption will be interested in Dark Matter. Aside from the amnesia element in Dark Matter, it has a similar premise and comparable character archetypes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Matter_(TV_series)

It was the first space opera on Syfy after a four-year drought following Stargate Universe. And although it only reached three seasons (like Babylon 5, it was planned with a five-year arc from the beginning), it wasn't cancelled due to poor ratings. It was the second-highest-rated non-reality series on the network at the time. In fact, the LA Syfy office resented that it was performing better than several Syfy Originals, since it was licensed from Prodigy Pictures in Canada so they couldn't profit off merchandising or international distribution, and the person in the NY office who'd been greenlighting it had gotten another job. So we have here a show that was cancelled for being too well liked.

First! Here's a question: what things in non-Greg Weisman shows have reminded people of Gargoyles or his other work?
B
B

Continuing from last week. I do think that Spectacular Spider-Man has the tightest story of Greg's three main series, and mostly I think has to do with how much material that's available. Gargoyles had its own history based on two fictional species and how they interwove with our history. Young Justice pretty much has the whole DC's universe to call on and certainly makes use of it.

Spec Spidey was confined to the Spider-Man universe and I think the limitations of that actually helped flesh out that universe more than any other Spider-Man adaption. You have Peter and his own story but the supporting cast was also given episodic focus and short, medium or long arcs.

Most of the plotting and scheming took place in season 2 with the various criminal factions trying to get a leg up on each other, which I think makes sense. As for the humor, well comedy is subjective but I rather thought the jokes were pretty clever and funny. And everyone got the chance for a joke, like here:

Peter: Boss, I'd like a word...
Jonah: How 'bout "scram?" Or two words, "scram kid." Or seventeen! "Get out of my office in two-point-three seconds or I'll staple you to a flagpole!"
Peter: ... H-how did you count so... never mind.
