Just a silly question:
I've noticed that you haven't put your 'thank you come again' or 'TYCA' at the bottom of the G2198 contest entries. Why exactly?

Greg responds...

nope

but for old time's sake:

2198 CONTEST

074: rookeries

Actually, it kind of makes sense that the really "easy" blanks would be the hardest to fill. Stuff like "Nicholas Natsilane" we can find by looking through synopses of old episodes. Our knowledge of Gargoyles gives us a basis for deducing these. But figuring out the last five is more about a knowledge of Greg Weisman than a knowledge of Gargoyles. There simply aren't as many clues to these as there were for some of the others. We just have to try to guess what words you would use given the number of letters in the word. And we know a lot less about you than we do about the show. It could be a while.

Greg responds...

Yeah. That's o.k. I was stunned by how quickly MOST everything else fell. I thought this contest would last months and months. So now maybe it will, but only because of five words.

Oh, rookeries is wrong.

Greyphoenix guessed:
446: immediate

Here's a contest update.

The following blanks remain unfilled:

74
129
293
446
510
517
518
519

Only eight left, though it seems like people have really slowed down on guessing. The funny thing is that none of these are particularly series-specific. I never would have predicted that any of these would have been the last to go. Some of them, frankly, seem kind of obvious to me, but of course, I'm coming from a very different perspective. In hindsight, that last set of three may really be tough because there's less context.

But anyway, keep at it. I want this over with.

Hi Greg,
A While back, you mentioned that One of the reasons Xanatos essentially stopped trying to make his own Gargoyles, is that Thailog kind of Scared him. Another response showed that a lot of the thoughts, morals and ethics of Thailog were based upon what Xanatos fed him in the maturation chamber.
Is this enough to say that Thailog, is almost a reflection of Xanatos' mind/attitude? (that is, prior to his marriage and family.)
Is that why Thailog Scares him?

Thanks

NEW CONTEST UPDATE

NOTE:

The two contests are now for

1) Who gets the most points for filling in the most blanks.

2) Who fills in the very LAST blank. (Not #525 which has already been filled in, but the last empty unfilled blank, whatever number that is).

We're no longer going to award a prize for reprinting the whole essay filled in. I'll do that (for free) when we're done.

The following blanks still need to be filled:

42, 44, 74, 129, 233, 292, 293, 408, 446, 510, 517, 518, 519

That's only thirteen left.

CONTEST UPDATE

The following blanks remain to be filled:

42, 44, 74, 125, 129, 133, 134, 233, 244, 292, 293, 314, 322, 327, 328, 408, 433, 444, 446, 490, 508, 510, 517, 518, 519.

That's only 25 left out of 525. Very good work, people.

Now the "bad" news. I'm cancelling the second part of the contest, the part where the first person to list the entire essay correctly gets a prize. I apologize, but the whole thing just became unwieldy, and I can't imagine having to go through twenty or thirty of the full-length essays just to find one or two words wrong in them.

Whether or not you think you have enough points to win the other part of the contest, I still urge everyone to keep guessing these last 25 blanks. First of all, I want this monster over. And second, I can't answer ANY questions about 2198 until the contest is completed. And third, well, it's just nice for everyone to be working together to solve the thing.

Thanks,

Greg

This one's a long shot, but I'm running out of eight-letter words in the gargoyles-fans.org synopsis of this episode. I continue to be surprised by the importance of "Heritage" (the episode) in the Gargoyles Universe. When I watched the episode, it seemed like just another chapter in the World Tour. Now, it appears that a whole lot of the future revolves around that little island. Amazing.

I should have realized there are no "throw-away" episodes in "Gargoyles."

Soon the time will come when only a handful of guesses will remain - I guess that then a number of people will try to post the entire text so as to win the second prize of the contest.

Since the text's many pages long, and since you *do* tell us which guesses are correct and which aren't, and since the texts will have only one-word variations between them, I think it might be better if you just said that the guy or gal who fills in the last blank wins the second prize - with no need to post the *entire* text.

What do you think? I'm just trying to find ways to avoid dozens of pages of text being posted with little or no difference between them...

Greg responds...

HEY! That's a good idea. I already cancelled the second contest. But will play it this way. One prize for the guy or gal with the most points. And one for the person who comes up with that last pesky answer.

As for 254, it is indeed Sentinel, but I have Aris getting the point for that, not Graymonk. It's possible I made an error. It's a very complicated contest, but I've tried to be careful. Is it possible Graymonk listed the wrong number and/or mispelled the word and/or gave his answer after Aris?
