Thanks, Phil, though my guess is those submissions were wrong anyway.

Btw, Greg, I checked and it seems that Graymonk had indeed submitted "Sentinel" for 254 before I did, so that particular point should go to him. You probably made a mistake there because that guess was part of a *huge* list of guesses, all the rest of which were wrong.

Greg responds...

O.K. Aris, on your authority, I'll take the point away from you and give it to Graymonk.

Thanks.

Just to be clear on my previous post, I'm not trying to steal Aris's guesses. He should get credit for them.

Greg responds...

Oh. Sorry. Anyway, their both wrong...

292 is "quiet".

293 is still unanswered.

NEW CONTEST UPDATE

NOTE:

The two contests are now for

1) Who gets the most points for filling in the most blanks.

2) Who fills in the very LAST blank. (Not #525 which has already been filled in, but the last empty unfilled blank, whatever number that is).

We're no longer going to award a prize for reprinting the whole essay filled in. I'll do that (for free) when we're done.

The following blanks still need to be filled:

42, 44, 74, 129, 233, 292, 293, 408, 446, 510, 517, 518, 519

That's only thirteen left.

CONTEST UPDATE

The following blanks remain to be filled:

42, 44, 74, 125, 129, 133, 134, 233, 244, 292, 293, 314, 322, 327, 328, 408, 433, 444, 446, 490, 508, 510, 517, 518, 519.

That's only 25 left out of 525. Very good work, people.

Now the "bad" news. I'm cancelling the second part of the contest, the part where the first person to list the entire essay correctly gets a prize. I apologize, but the whole thing just became unwieldy, and I can't imagine having to go through twenty or thirty of the full-length essays just to find one or two words wrong in them.

Whether or not you think you have enough points to win the other part of the contest, I still urge everyone to keep guessing these last 25 blanks. First of all, I want this monster over. And second, I can't answer ANY questions about 2198 until the contest is completed. And third, well, it's just nice for everyone to be working together to solve the thing.

Thanks,

Greg

2198 CONTEST

233: Heritage
408: Heritage

This one's a long shot, but I'm running out of eight-letter words in the gargoyles-fans.org synopsis of this episode. I continue to be surprised by the importance of "Heritage" (the episode) in the Gargoyles Universe. When I watched the episode, it seemed like just another chapter in the World Tour. Now, it appears that a whole lot of the future revolves around that little island. Amazing.

I should have realized there are no "throw-away" episodes in "Gargoyles."

Greg responds...

nope, no throw aways. But nope, wrong answers...

Soon the time will come when only a handful of guesses will remain - I guess that then a number of people will try to post the entire text so as to win the second prize of the contest.

Since the text's many pages long, and since you *do* tell us which guesses are correct and which aren't, and since the texts will have only one-word variations between them, I think it might be better if you just said that the guy or gal who fills in the last blank wins the second prize - with no need to post the *entire* text.

What do you think? I'm just trying to find ways to avoid dozens of pages of text being posted with little or no difference between them...

Greg responds...

HEY! That's a good idea. I already cancelled the second contest. But will play it this way. One prize for the guy or gal with the most points. And one for the person who comes up with that last pesky answer.
