This isn't a question, but a word of encouragement.
Whatever happens in the future with a return of "Gargoyles", I'm very much interested and looking forward to getting back into it.
I don't care if it's comic books or TV. Having anything new is all that matters, whatever form it may be. So, I'm glad to know that you haven't and won't give up on it, and that there might be more on the way.
It's been a while since I watched the show, but I just got it on DVD since the rest of season 2 (finally!) was released.

Greg responds...

I think it holds up pretty well, as do the SLG comics. I'd still love to do more. I've never given up, and I won't start giving up now!

First of all, I wanted to say I'm a huge fan of your work on the shows Rebels and Spectacular Spider-Man. Now, I wanted to ask what was the reason behind Eddie Brock's look in Spectacular? I always thought he stood out from the rest of characters somehow. I'd greatly appreciate if you could go as in depth as possible. Thanks for giving us such masterpieces and have a merry christmas.

Greg responds...

I'm really not sure what you mean. He was designed by Cheeks Galloway, just like all the major characters. What seems different to you?

Will the complete young justice timeline be revel if all future seasons of the young justice you Mister Greg plan for the show to have are produce ?

Greg responds...

Never. Cuz we'll never run out of ideas for future seasons, and the timeline is constantly growing. Right now it's 694 pages on my desktop computer and 609 pages on my laptop. (I have no explanation for the discrepancy. It's the exact same document. My desktop is much older than my laptop.)

Hey Greg!

I am one of Gargoyles fans and I think that it is timeto make a movie. I know you have talked about it already but there is something else I would like to propose. We should collect as many signatures as possible for gargoyles to return and also collect sigantures for the live action movie. Would you be interested? I think that we as fans could push Disney to do something about it, to show them that we really deserve a live action movie of Gargoyles. I am not asking if it is possible. I am asking if you are with us?

Greg responds...

Well, I'm not sure how to answer that. I'm all for it. But, no, I guess I'm forced to admit I'm not with you. Cause I do not believe it's the correct approach to accomplish your stated goals. Petitions mean nothing. Vote with your wallet. And that means subscribing to Disney+ and binge-watching Gargoyles over and over and over. That's the best way to get more Gargoyles material of ANY kind.

Hey Greg, just wondering your opinion on the last Jedi? The response is polarizing and me personally, I loved it aside from a few scenes where I'd edit out a line of dialogue out.

Greg responds...

God, it's been awhile now. I seem to recall there's a lot I liked about it. I had some problems with it, but most of my issues were really just extensions of my issues with the previous film's set up.

I liked Rose a lot.

not sure if this is asking for spoilers, given i have no idea how far your plans for how you would feature the gargoyles version of atlantis in story, but here goes.

How far did the atlantean empire stretch in the gargoyles universe before the continent fell into the sea, and was the continent located west of africa like the the original legends go, or was it somewhere else?

Greg responds...

No spoilers. Sorry.

Hey Greg,
I hope all is well~ <3
I just finished The Spectacular Spider man and I can't sleep anymore, my heart aches because of how the show was left off, especially when I enjoyed it so much. It just fills me with negative emotions every time I look at one of Disneys Spiderman cartoon shows knowing well enough that it won't ever be as good as Spectacular Spiderman. I know I won't get any closure no matter what I do. But I do have questions.
My few questions are:
1) How much of Spectacular Spiderman did you write after the end of season 2?
2) Were any of season 3 of Spectacular Spiderman episodes animated?
3) Will you ever work on another Spiderman animated series? Or any other marvel super hero cartoon show?
I just want to add that the way Spectacular Spiderman was created, it was amazing. The character development, the fight scenes, the drama, and of course, the theme song. They were all just perfect. I enjoyed the series greatly but anxiety kept getting stronger every time an episode ended.

Thank you so much for The Spectacular Spiderman, it was great~ <3

Greg responds...

1. None. We had plans. But we wrote no scripts. Did no real work.

2. There were no Season Three episodes.

3a. I'd love to, but it's not up to me.

3b. Ditto.

Thanks for your kind words.

Hi Greg! I'm a HUGE fan of YJ (Congrats on Season Three, sorry if we bothered you too much about it!). I have two questions, but I'm only really expecting one answer.

1- Does Wally West have ADHD? He has a few signs of it (obvious hyperactivity, hyperfocusing on science, often acting immature, sometimes not understanding things, being very impulsive, etc) and I see at lot of myself in him as a person with ADHD.

Greg responds...

1. I'm not qualified to make that diagnosis. But I'm not against the notion.

2. What was the second question?

Hi Greg! I'm so excited for Season 3, can't wait to see what you create!
I've got two questions for you:

1) For how long had the original team known Robin I/Nightwing's secret identity as Dick Grayson by the time Season 2 started?
2) Did Roy know Robin's secret identity in Season 1?

Thanks and good luck with production!

Greg responds...

1. I'm not going to lock down an exact date in this forum until we've made a decision in a story.

2. No. Just Wally.

Random question: you've discussed religious affiliations of a few characters in the past right? I was wondering: of the original team, (Dick, Wally, Kaldur, Conner, M'Gann) how many believe in God? Of those who do, what are their religions? Thanks!

Greg responds...

Dick is maybe agnostic?

Wally probably believes in God. He comes from some kind of Christian background. Maybe Methodist.

Conner is probably an Atheist.

Kaldur and M'gann believes in gods (plural).

Lately I've been thinking of a villain trope that is decades (if not centuries) old. The maniacal laugh or the evil laugh. When used properly, I love it. When not, it can be hammy, over the top, and out of character.

Several of the villains you've written over the years have used it, and many haven't.

Off the top of my head, Thailog comes to mind first. And I wouldn't want Thailog without it. Granted, I sometimes wonder where he picked it up. It definitely wasn't from Xanatos. And while Sevarius might be hammy, I don't recall him doing it.

Hyena also has a maniacal laugh, and given her name (and personality) it definitely suits her.

The Archmage had a maniacal laugh.

Demona laughed maniacally three or four times. But it's not a trait we normally associate with her.

And let us not forget the Green Goblin in "Spectacular Spider-Man". I think he was the only villain on the show to have one. Likewise, I recall Nerissa doing it on "W.I.T.C.H." at least once.

The Joker aside, I do not recall any of the villains on "Young Justice" doing it. Any of them. Maybe I'm misremembering, it's been a while since I watched through the show, but I am struggling to remember and coming up blank.

Which leads to me to ask. Is the maniacal laugh a dated relic? Especially as we expect supervillains to be more sophisticated in our dramatic fiction, superhero or otherwise.

For example, in "Transformers", the classic Megatron used to laugh maniacally all the time. All the time. More modern takes on Megatron have done away with the maniacal laugh.

I love it, don't get me wrong, but should villains still be doing it. If we ever get more "Gargoyles", I definitely want Thailog to continue doing it. But, had Thailog made his debut in the year 2017, would I still want him doing it?

You have gotten the chance to create your own great supervillains as well as write many of the classic and iconic supervillains. Right now, what are your thoughts on the villainous laugh?

Greg responds...

I haven't exactly studied this issue.

I use it when it feels right in terms of character and situation. Obviously, some characters have more of a sense of humor about what they do than others.

Not all villainous laughs qualify as "maniacal" in my book either.

I would never outlaw the practice, but I think I do use it sparingly, both to avoid silliness and to make it special if and when we do use it.

1. Does magical "affinity" in Young Justice mean that your body can better handle the strain of the mystic energy being channeled through it?

2. If that's the case then does that explain why Giovanni and Zatanna can cast spells without a conduit? Because they have such a high/strong magical affinity?

Greg responds...

1. Among other things.

2. Didn't you JUST ask this question. Why are you asking it again?

Dear Mr. Weisman,

I am a fan of your work who frequents this forum and has studied your work thoroughly. I was looking for information to further my understanding and therefore enjoyment of your work on Young Justice. I tried to find the answer to this question but I could not find any response. I am really, really not trying to nit-pick here but this is something that has been bothering me for a while now.

You were once asked "Do you regard Young Justice's magic as following the same "rules" as Gargoyles's, or did you right it differently?" your very cool response was " More or less." In the Gargoyle series it was necessary for human sorcerer to use a "conduit" in order to generate or summon the mystic energy necessary for casting spells. In contrast The Third Race, who were magical beings, could generate mystic energy of their own, but not without limit.

I understand that Klarion and Dr. Fate are magical beings, that can channel mystic energy from another plane of existence into our world through a physical "anchor." Wotan, Felix Faust, and Blackbriar Thorn are all sorcerers that have lived long enough to figure out a way to general/summon/channel mystic energy without to much trouble and the Atlanteans summon/generate mystic energy via their mystic skin icons that also assist in channeling these energies.

1. My question is how is it that the Zatara family members, Giovanni and his daughter Zatanna, are able to summon mystic energy without the use of a conduit? Wizard used a magic wand and Giovanni used a wand on several occasions is season one but Zatanna is constantly casting spells seemingly with words alone.

2. Are they using a conduit we cannot see?

3. Are they somehow magical in nature?

4. Are they somehow just so talented and physically strong that they are able to endure the bodily strain of conducting mystic energy through themselves without a conduit like The Magus did on Avalon? I would think that that would be extremely exhausting even considering they're younger than The Magus was at the time of his death.

5. Could you please explain magical "affinity?" At this point I am running off of the assumption that it means natural-born talent for magic.

I just want to know what's happening. I'm sorry if the magical beings question counts as a spoiler, but I think it is valid in this case.

Greg responds...

1. He's using the words as his conduit.

2. Yes. But you can hear it.

3. Watch Season Four.

4. See above.

5. Largely, yes.
