Here is my question.
I'm guessing that the reason why you guys put WW's age into the 80s was to emphasize
the fact that she's immortal, which was a great move.
I know that Superman is in his 30s on your show, but i've read and seen in multiple portrayals of Superman (like Kingdom Come, DCAU), that while he's not immortal, he has a much, much longer lifespan than normal humans.
Was the reason why you chose not to give him a advanced age, was to emphasize the fact
that inside, he's more human than alien?

I was curious if this universe has a system for dealing with the property damage that comes with the existence super powered heroes and villains, it's always something I end up thinking about watching animated series.

In terms of..
a. Is the league expected to help the general public repair neighborhoods and cities?
b. Is money privately and publically budgeted for expected damages in high risk cities? (The typical home areas of all the different heroes.)
c. Has it ever become an image/PR problem for the league? Or does the status quo put lives before property and accept it as an inconvenience/blame the bad guys?

Based on Beast Boy's flashback in "Earthlings," I suspect that Queen Bee killed Marie Logan (and presumably tried to kill Garfield as well) as revenge for Miss Martian's deceptive actions in "Usual Suspects." Why wasn't Marie Logan and her son put into protective custody in order to avoid further danger from Queen Bee?

Hello Greg Weisman, thank you for this interesting opportunity. I'm a big fan of Young Justice and it's great to see another great DC show around. I'm sorry to say this is the first show by you that I've watched (I should fix that). Snappy writing, fun undercurrent of mystery, and from what I understand is a staple of your shows, not assuming your fans are incapable of following an ongoing plot line.

I love the fight scenes in the show. Very fluid animation; and I enjoy in particular when the "normals" get to cut loose and drop some martial arts on each other. I also find it fun when Superboy gets to utterly wail on people.

Anyways, I have a question that has been plaguing me in recent years. I'm not sure if the answer varies from show to show but here it is. How much say do the writers get in the crafting of the action scenes? Do you guys lay down some guidelines for what must happen in a fight or do you ultimately leave it up to the animators and/or artists?

Well, there's my question that quickly devolved into a multi-question, I'm sorry. But, please, keep the awesome coming man! I hope this show keeps on keepin' on! Six seasons and a movie!

First let me say i really enjoyed the first season of young justice and couldn't wait to see the second season of young Justice!!But i wouldn't be honest if i didn't say that i was surprised and shocked at the changes that were made, the time jump of five years, the focus changing from the seven members from the first season and the big shock, Miss Martian and Superboy breaking up!!

Even those i could see that coming not because they weren't a good couple. A lot of things have turned out to be the same as the first young justice comic book series,you changed the way they get there, plus it seems everybody wants superboy to be with wondergirl like in the comics. As for me, i like Miss Martian and Superboy as a couple and hope they get back together in the future but that just me!! That being said, i did enjoy the first two episodes from season two! My Questions,

1.How tall is Miss Martian in her true form?
2.Did Miss Martian have anything do with Superman finally accepting Superboy?? She seemed to know he was coming!!I guess what i'm asking is did she talking to him.

As someone who is interested in writing episodic stories, I was wondering if you could share your approach on how you write a season for a series like YJ. I remember seeing an image on Brandon Vietti's blog where he had post-it's on a board mapping out all of season 1.

1. Do you start with the season's overall story first, eg. "The Light wants to take control of the Justice League and Red Arrow is the mole who will help them" and then do you just come up with plot points/events that move the story forward and scatter them across episodes?

2. Do you come up character development separately or in tandum with the story? I ask because in my own writing I have growth of some characters mapped out but have struggled to come up with plots to tie that growth in with the overall story arc.

3. If you're able to recall, would you be able to share some of the content on the post-it's from a particular YJ episode?

4. And what are your thoughts on "filler story episodes". My interpretation was "Secrets" and "Performance" were filler, in that they didn't drive the overall season story forward, but did have character development. Do you think it's important in writing for a series to give the audience a break from the story arc at regular intervals?

The DCU has such a long, rich, diverse history, with so many changes so why do some people even come here to demand you need to write something this way or that way? Nothing is written in stone. Boy, it aggravates me when I read people trying to tell creators how to do their jobs.

I think this is an excellent show. I am just going to add my voice here with some others. I think you should do a Justice League series but based on the new 52 and with the new versions...eg Superman is the social crusader and little brasher and tougher in Action Comics and Justice League. Have you read the new Justice League btw?

Hey Greg! I'm an absolute huge fan of Young Justice. I'm probably the only sorority girl in the national who wakes up every Saturday morning to catch it on cartoon network. You've done a great job reinterpreting the characters of my childhood (I grew up on the DCAU and now I'm an avid comic fan). The thing is I'm also a huge fanfiction fan. I find that it helps hold my attention for the show from week to week, and more importantly through the long hiatuses that Cartoon Network likes to put us through. So here's my question. What's your opinion of fanfiction? And do you support the creation of fanfiction (with nonprofit, no infringement intended stories) of your works?

I really enjoyed much of season one of Young Justice, but I was... disturbed by the Wally/Artemis relationship and its resolution. Though Artemis had many great storylines at the forefront regarding her family, the Wally/Artemis storyline seemed to focus mostly on HIS feelings and not really hers, which combined with Kent Nelson's comments about how Wally needs to "find his own spitfire" gives the relationship a very bitter taste of using a female character and her romantic attention as a tool to aide a male character's growth and/or something to be consumed to make him a better person.

We're never really given much reason to understand what appeal or advantages the relationship holds for her. I mean, the narrative hints/tropes are there and so I suppose there follows an audience expectation along the lines of "two people fight to mask their sexual tension" but I don't think just having the trappings of the trope without examining any kind of deeper emotional connection or commonality works. As it stands, it mostly just seems like they hooked up because That's How These Things Go and we were supposed to cheer for it for those same reasons.

Emotionally, it felt hollow and, frankly, problematic for the reasons I mentioned.

My apologies if this isn't the proper forum for criticism, but this has really been bothering me for a while.

Greg, I'm really sorry about how some of the fans have been talking to you on this web-site. I think that world of comics and animation and sci-fi fandom is populated by a lot of misfits who don't seem to fit in anywhere else. For these people, Young Justice is their happy place, and when you mess with their happy place, they get mad. This is especially true of the "shipping" fans. Mess with Wally and Artemis and they'll bite. I'm not excusing it; I've just been pondering the vociferous reaction of some fans to the changes in Young Justice cast. And I have come to the conclusion that these kinds of fans are not going to go away. This psychological make-up is what makes them fans in the first place. If it is any consolation, you and Brandon have managed to create something that people obviously care about.

2) Paula, Artemis' mom, was once a super-villain. Did she fight any current Leaguers? If so, which ones?

3) M'Gann's brain blast which we saw her use in "Image" is a formidable power - especially since most super-villains (or heroes) don't have a defense against that kind of power. Why doesn't she use it more often? Wouldn't it solve a lot of problems?

4) This is a spoiler request, but it's soooo benign... One of your designers drew this great picture of Wally and his mom at his kindergarden graduation but it was not ready in time to be included in "Coldhearted." I wonder if it still might appear on the show at some point?

I just read a comment there about shows being leaked on youtube. Not taking away from what you creative guys do but I think a lot of the blame should go to how the industry is structured. Taking Young Justice for example, If you live somewhere like America were Young Justice is screened on tv, catch up service on the Cartoon networks website(probably), available for purchase digitally from Itunes or Amazon or on a region 1 DVD, then there's no excuse. But due to international copyright laws that's not the case for those outside of the US, the show hasn't been made available to purchase in any way.

And it goes both ways. There are popular european tv shows, particularly british shows that US citizens want but can't purchase due to the DVD region system. Or if they can they are expected to wait for two-three years possibly, indefinately. Look at Gargoyles. It's only been partially released in the US, there's been zero releases to the rest of the world.

The best way to discourage piracy, in my opinion, is to make content available universally, so people are actually able to purchase the SAME content at the SAME time. If not through DVDS then digitally. I don't know why the entertainment has such a problem with this?

Hello Greg, my question concerns Blue Devil's coloring. When he first appeared in "Revelation," Blue Devil had white hair and yellow horns. His next appearance in "Agendas" shows him with black hair and white horns, which matches up with how he appeared in the comics. Was there a production error, or was this intentional? I read your interview about "Young Justice" at http://tv.ign.com/articles/122/1223871p1.html last evening. I enjoyed it, but the part that stood out to me the most was your comments on Vandal Savage and his fellow members of the Light as seeing themselves as the heroes and the Justice League as misguided people holding the world back from its proper direction.

That reflected one thought I'd had about the Light for a while (even though I've still only seen the first eight episodes of Season One on DVD, and read about the others on the Internet). Their name had gotten my attention, because the word "light" customarily has good connotations. And their talk in the episodes that I'd seen about "seeing the light" strengthened my suspicions that their goal wasn't conventional super-villain taking over the world, but something more - that these were people with some kind of vision for what the world ought to be like, which they were ready to achieve by any means possible, no matter how moral or ethical those methods were, a kind of "for the greater good" mentality (as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" put it). Your interview strengthened that suspicion about the Light - which will certainly make it a group of interesting antagonists.

In this series as far as I have seen Conner dosen't wear glasses like he did in the comics. He looks the same when he's working with the team as he did when he went to school, s-shield shirt aside. AHHHHHHH! The season 1 finale and season 2 premier just blew my mind.

I smell some serious Greg Weisman subterfuge (or perhaps suprafuge if you ask Robin).

I can remember my tiny heart breaking the first time I saw "Future Tense" on the Disney Afternoon. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Same goes for "Failsafe".

You're not getting me again. I am already preparing myself for this to be an alternate reality (even though I know you've said that is something you avoided in Gargoyles) or something. I may have spotted a small clue that affirmed this in the final scene's time stamp.

Not guessing, just looking forward to enjoying whatever you have in store.

Also, loved the Black Spider cameo. Very clever. Spectacular Spiderman was an awesome show and the new Ultimate Spiderman is GARBAGE. Just really, really bad.

Hi Greg! I looked through the archives and found that you previously mentioned that the first couple seasons of Gargoyles cost $400k-500k per episode to produce.

Assuming the cost of haven't changed dramatically, it seems as though animation is cheaper than the standard scripted network show. Given that, I'm surprised there aren't more animated shows on the major networks, especially with anime so popular in the US now, particularly among older audiences.

I think the only weakness to Young Justice is that it feels like the stories are big enough to fit in a whole hour, but are being condensed to thirty minutes. Again, assuming the cost of animation is in the ballpark of what it was for Gargoyles, an hour-long show doesn't strike me as financially prohibitive.

1. Can you say how much Young Justice costs to produce? A ballpark would be fine if you can't/don't want to give exact numbers.

2. What are your thoughts on the lack of non-Fox/non-comedy prime-time animation? Do you think this is something that can change in the future?

3. Do you think we might one day see hour-long dramatic animation? Did you ever consider making YJ an hour long?

8.) Last but certainly not least, Wally and Artemis’s romance on this show is not only my favorite on the show, but might be my favorite romance on all the show’s you’ve produced. That’s no small feat amongst company like Goliath/Eliza, Fox/Xanatos, Peter/Gwen, Spider-Man/Black Cat. As a Wally West fan (my favorite of the Flashes), you and the YJ crew have also done something I didn’t think possible. Make me want to see him end up with someone besides Linda Park. Not that I wouldn't mind that as a detour, but as long as all roads end with him and Artemis together I'd be happy. I also thought Wally scooping her up before their first kiss and Artemis being fine with it was adorable as well. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t give major props to Jason Spisak and Stephanie Lemelin. Those two have had cracking chemistry from day one Artemis showed up. Whether it's them bickering or in the more tender moments, they deserve just as much credit as you and the crew did for bringing this relationship to life. I imagine it was probably a joy to watch them interacting at the table readings and/or voice recordings. Anyways this one wasn’t a question so much as me giving you and the crew a pat on the backs for creating one of my favorite romances in animation. I look forward to where both Wally and Artemis end up going in Season 2.

Ok, my question is about the "death rules" in your shows, AKA the conditions under which you could kill a character off (for example, you said in your Gargoyles' rambles that you could show Othello and Desdemona in "City of Stone, Part 1" because A)the audience already knew they were dead and B)it already knew they'd be back as Coldstone, otherwise you couldn't have personalized the victims of the massacre; you also said that, even though you killed off the Magus in "Avalon, Part 3", you couldn't actually say outloud that he was dead).
So, the question is: under which conditions you could actually kill a character off in Gargoyles, W.I.T.C.H. and Young Justice?

Personally I hope Aqualad keeps his head clear because being a leader of a team is already enough to worry about. Hi Greg. I just wanted to say that I know how frustrating it can be working on a show that draws from so many years of comic book mythology and has so many diehard fans. You can't please everyone and those who are not pleased seem to be the most vocal. That being said... Young Justice is AMAZING. You have managed to make so many characters in the DC Universe (or is that Nation?) that I once thought of as superfluous or one-dimensional... utterly fascinating. Auld Acquaintance was an amazing ending for the first season and I can not wait for Young Justice Invasion. As I said, I know some people aren't pleased with things like Zatanna being young enough to be on the Team , the addition of Icon and Rocket or there being 3 Green Lanterns on Earth simultaneously, etc. But DC (like Marvel) exists in a Multiverse and this is YOUR reality. The rest of us are lucky enough to get a peek at it. So... get on board or get out of the way!

First off, I dearly love the show; I've stuck with it ever since January of last year, and I'm really glad I did! Liking the characterizations, the shoutouts and in-jokes and other little details put in there to show that, yeah, you and your guys think about all of this and enjoy your work. And I gotta say that my favorite ship is Wally and Artemis, so I'm pleased with developments there and looking forward to seeing where it goes!

But this is a question site, and I do have some serious questions, mostly on Zeta-Beams, the Watchtower and other Space Tech, being a big space and sci-fi geek:

1. First off, who invented the Zeta-beam tech that's so omnipresent in the series? Is it a native Earth development or an alien import?

1a. After invention comes development: who built the Zeta-beam network (almost certainly WayneCorp, but just checking)?

2. Since there's a usable and practical teleportation system available in the setting, is there any non-hero use of the system (or potential plans to open the system to civilian use)? If not, is there some aspect to the system (like high energy costs) that makes it cost-prohibitive on a mass scale? Or does the Justice League prefer to keep the competitive advantage to themselves?

3. Next up, the Watchtower; gotta start with the basics here: How do people--especially Earth-based astronomers--*miss* seeing an orbiting station the size of a major office building?

4. Assuming that they don't miss it, that argues that the Watchtower isn't alone up there; has Earth-16 started developing a space industry (like we're doing now, with the new company Planetary Resources) with space stations, asteroid mining, solar energy stations, etc.?

4a. And given that energy costs for launchers are the primary prohibiting factors in orbital development and that there are many heroes capable of orbital lifts (Superman, Capt. Marvel, the Green Lanterns, just for starters), has NASA and other organizations and companies asked them for help in getting things to orbit? (Several millions dollars for a one-use rocket that could explode if someone did the math just a little bit wrong, or a nice but smaller check for the Justice League... hmm... decisions, decisions... :) )

(1) Is she a vegetarian on Earth-16?
(2) Is she or has she considered becoming a Dianic Wiccan on Earth-16?

I'm mainly curious because these were two relatively small, but still meaningful aspects of her character in the comics that I thought would be interesting if they carried over into a story of her teenage years.

I will try to keep this from becoming a spoiler-asking question, hopefully! Though due in part to the… specificity, I don’t know how successful this will be.

You mentioned before that there was undoubtedly going to be (at least one) lgbt character on the show. I won’t ask who, as spoilers, but I guess thatâ€"the ending of the first season really threw me, in a sad way. A sudden parade of heteronormativity at the end of a show season where I had a lot of hope that there might be an lgbt relationship acknowledged by the writing hit pretty hard!

I know that one person does not control all the creative decisions of a tv production by themself, but I guess I wondered if a canonically acknowledged lgbt character was still a thing that WILL happen. Because it is well and good to say “undoubtedly they exist,” but ultimately never acknowledging that within the show does lgbt kids no good! Because saying something like, “obviously chances are someone on the team is lgbt,” is actually really meaningless to us lgbt people if that part of their identity is never shown or confirmed. It just continues to make us invisible in the mainstream media (particularly kid’s media) while still playing up having some diversity, and that does hurt.
