GREG'S DENVER COMIC CON 2013 SCHEDULE...
Hey, gang! As many of you know, I'm leaving tomorrow morning for Denver Comic Con. At last year's inaugural convention in Denver, I had a ton of fun with Khary "Aqualad" Payton and Greg Guler. They're both coming back this year, but other guests include Young Justice comic book artist Christopher Jones, Phil "Reach Ambassador" LaMarr, Dee Bradley "Desaad" Baker and Kelly "Cheshire" Hu. And, really, that's just the tip of the ol' iceberg. Check out the website here:
http://www.denvercomiccon.com/
Anyway, here's my schedule for the weekend:
FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2013
ASK GREG LIVE 05:00pm - 05:50pm

We had fun doing this more casually at WonderCon, so here we'll make it official
SIGNING 06:00pm - 06:50pm
Floor Table
I was planning to bring stuff to sell and sign, but I've just been so swamped that I didn't get my act together. But I'll sign (FOR FREE) anything you bring over to my table and wave under my nose (politely). Don't know exactly which table is mine yet, but I'll announce it at ASK GREG LIVE and TWEET it.

YJ MEET UP 07:30pm
Room 104
Chris Jones, myself and maybe a few other YJ types will be meeting up with YJ fans and cosplayers just to HANG OUT and SHOOT the $#!+. Chris and I did something similar at the Doctor Who Conventions, and it was a lot of fun.

So, if you're anywhere near Denver, please stop by! Say hello. If we've met before, I apologize in advance if I don't remember everyone's name. But reintroduce yourself. Eventually, I do catch on! And I want to meet you and say hello!
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Twenty-Four:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Twenty-Four. This was a fun one. Very rich in mythology. I like finding ways to tell (or rather retell) the old stories. I just hope I'm doing them justice.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty-Five.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Twenty-Three:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Twenty-Three. This was the shortest chapter yet, but it took me a while to crack. I think it's cause my head is filled with Star Wars stuff from my new gig as one of the Executive Producers of Disney and Lucasfilm's new STAR WARS REBELS series. But I CAN'T let that happen. The book is due to St. Martin's Press by the end of the summer, and I can't afford distractions. I've had the luxury of being largely unemployed since I started writing it, and now that luxury is gone. But I'm going to have to learn to mentally juggle and make better use of my time.
So, tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty-Four.
So if you've been following me on Twitter - and/or you've been following whatever your preferable source of geek news - you probably already know that I have a new job. I'll be one of three Executive Producers on the new animated television series from Lucasfilm and Disney: STAR WARS REBELS. (I'm typing this from my room at the Skywalker Inn on the Skywalker Ranch! NOW, HOW COOL IS THAT?!!!)
My partners and fellow Executive Producers on the project are two incredibly talented guys, Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg. I didn't know either of them before we got started (except by reputation), but I've already got a mad creative-crush on them both. We're building something truly special here, and I'm very excited to be a part of it. We're all challenging each other to make this show better and better.
Expect great characters, stunning action, humor, arcing and a little romance, i.e. all the things that most of you have enjoyed in my previous series and in the very best of the Star Wars franchise. Expect that. Go ahead. I don't think you'll be disappointed! And if I'm wrong, I'll eat my lightsaber. (I'm getting a lightsaber tomorrow!! YES!)
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Twenty-Two:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Twenty-Two. It's one of the shorter chapters, and I really would have finished it last night - but I was so tired after getting up VERY early, grabbing a plane and spending an intense day in story conference at Lucasfilm, working on my new gig, i.e. STAR WARS REBELS, that when I got back to the Skywalker Inn, I crashed at 10pm. But I'm on an end of summer deadline for this book, so I can't make a habit of THAT.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty-Three.
YOUNG JUSTICE SOUNDTRACK
"La-La Land Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment present the original soundtrack to the Warner Bros. animated television series Young Justice, currently airing on Cartoon Network. Composers Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuistion & Kristopher Carter (Batman: The Brave And The Bold, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Teen Titans, Batman Beyond) fashion an exhilarating super hero score that is every bit as bold, fresh and exciting as this hit animated series. This compilation brings together must-have musical highlights of the show's first season, as well as the second season, Young Justice: Invasion. It's dramatic, action-packed music that makes for a thrilling standalone listen!"
Pre-Order NOW:
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Twenty-One:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Twenty-One. This one's mostly comedy, with a shocking twist/scare at the end. Fun to write, but harder than most. Hopefully, it won't come off as labored when you read it. AND YOU ARE GOING TO READ IT RIGHT? (But first you'll want to read Book One, so PRE-ORDER NOW!)
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty-Two.
So I JUST NOW finished updating the EARTH-16 Timeline. It is exactly 250 pages long.
I hadn't had time to update it much during the production of Season Two - or rather, I was pretty inconsistent about updating it. So since we finished, back in October, I tackled a little bit at a time. And I finally finished. It's the final version of the Earth-16 timeline, until or unless we ever get to make more stuff set in that universe.
It includes (as far as I can tell) everything from both television seasons, everything from the 20+ issues of the comic and everything from YJ Legacy. There's a bit of extra backstory in there too, (particularly Golden Age stuff) that I mostly figured out way back before Season One. And I tossed in some of the characters from the five year gap that were basically defined by what we DIDN'T do with them. But mostly I intentionally left out characters we didn't cover yet. We can always add guys like the Question or Gleek later, assuming we ever get a later. But Brandon and I will figure out where they fit on the timeline if and when.
And, no, before anyone asks, I will NOT be posting it. Even Warner Bros, Cartoon Network and DC don't have it. It's just for Brandon and I. But I can refer to it to answer specific questions, as long as I don't deem those questions to be spoilers.
Hey Greg,
Loving Young Justice and still hoping for some continuation of the series and their characters.
The other day I realized that not only is Mark Rolston a fantastic person to voice Lex Luthor, but he would also be perfect to play the character in a live action role. This is more a question for him than you but, has he expressed interest in possibly playing the role in a sequel to 2012's Man of Steel?
Thanks so much for all your hard work on Young Justice
Not to me. But he has my vote.
Is there a specific reason why you decided to make Wally's only suited up appearance this season (so far anyways), being shown up by Impulse? If you weren't going to make Wally important to the plot at all this season then why did you even bother having him appear in Bloodlines to begin with? Yes I know Wally was a Flash once upon a time, just like Garrick, but he could've easily NOT been in the episode and it wouldn't have affected the plot in the slightest.
I suppose it doesn't help that I don't really care much for Bart Allen (never really have); I feel he came in and "replaced" a vastly more interesting character in Wally. His first appearance reaked of "Hey kids, do you like Kid Flash? Well forget about him because here we have the faster, shinier, and "funnier" character in Impulse." A tactic I felt the show was above, until now. You told us Wally hadn't been replaced in the slightest, no offense but when Bart is the one on the team now and Wally is the one benched, I feel it's a little silly to tell us that when the show shows us other wise.
Why is it that Wally is no longer involved in the plot at all? Yes I know he's retired, but Artemis was retired as well. You guys easily could've plotted out some scenario that utilized Wally's scientific mind to help Dick out, something I think is 100% in character for Wally to do that would get Artemis home faster, "The Life" or not.
After all Wally is one of the original 6, and you and Brandon have stressed over and over again in interviews that the main six would still take center stage. Yet as of The Hunt, Wally has only appeared in 1/4 of the season as a minor presence at best. That holds true for the other five, but Jamie and Bart feel more important this season than Wally does.
I feel due to Wally's lack of presence, the show lost that certain something in it's second season, and those that have taken up his screen time are nowhere near as interesting in my opinion. It's gotten to the point where Wally could take up the Flash mantle sometime in the last 3 episodes and I STILL don't think it would be worth his absence.
Just to be clear, I don't think Wally being slower than Bart is bad, I just haven't cared about the way it's been presented. (Ex.: We all know Superman is superior to Batman in strength, but most writers don't go out of their way to beat that point into the ground like you guys did with Wally/Bart). Nor do I think his feelings for Artemis are what defines his importance on the show, like a poster below does.
However I feel like somewhere along the lines of plotting this season (of the original 6) Wally became unimportant to you guys in the grand scheme of things for season 2. Perhaps that's not necessarily true and that he is important to you guys, but I feel that's the way it has come across.
I don't think Impulse showed Wally up at all. It was Wally and Jay who saved Barry and Bart's lives. Or did you miss that? The fact that we got a little humor out of Wally's frustration and Bart's arrogance doesn't rise to the level you're indicating, at least not in my opinion. Not unless you're looking to see that.
Bart interests me. Wally interests me. We tried to honor both characters. It worked for some. Didn't work for you. I can live with that. But in any case, I don't think Bart REPLACED Wally in Season Two. Wally retired. Bart joined. But so did Arsenal and Guardian and Static. We weren't thinking in terms of a one-for-one replacement. We were trying to honor both speedsters' stories.
And, yes, I suppose we could have plotted anything. We could have plotted that Wally became an out-and-out villain. We could have plotted that he was magically transformed into an anthropomorphic aardvark. None of that felt right. What felt right to us is what we showed you. Now, we would have loved to have had the luxury to give Wally more screen time in Season Two. But there were only so many episodes and so many minutes in each episode. And we had a very specific story to tell. So you get what you get.
You say "you and Brandon have stressed over and over again in interviews that the main six would still take center stage," but I don't think that's an accurate statement. I believe I gave at most two interviews where I said something to that effect. But it's largely been misinterpreted - or rather over-interpreted. The story took center stage in Season Two. (I've stated THAT "over and over" ad nauseum.) That was intentional. You may not like it, but that's what we were doing. What I have been trying to say all along is that we still see our core original six characters as extremely important. Some, in Season Two, got more screen time than others. That was defined by story. Superboy was big in the first half of Season Two, and not so big in the second half. Artemis barely appeared at all until Episode 207, etc. But despite that, we made a real effort to honor the stories of those six. And I believe we did that with Wally. (I'm also not sure why you were writing this before seeing the end of the season.) Now, I'll hazard a guess that you didn't like the way we ended Wally's story either. But we'll never please everyone, obviously. We have to do what we think works and hope that enough of our audience agrees that the series is a success.
As for the notion that Wally became unimportant to us, you've missed the boat entirely. If that's the way it came across to you, I'm sorry. But Wally was always extremely important to us, and his presence even in Season Two is not defined by screen time, but by WHO HE IS. And I think our ending proves that point. Wally West, Kid Flash, is a hero.
Hi, I love Young Justice and my favorite character is Arsenal.
So,
1. Did he get any therapy after getting discharged from the hospital, or just train nonstop?
2.Was he only on the team for two missions or were there any smaller missions that he went on?
3. Did Luthor and the Light just have him on ice for eight years? Did they control and utilize him for any of their covert missions?
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. Ice, ice, baby.
1)who were Artemis's grandparents? Do you ever plan on revealing them in the show or the comic if the show gets picked up later on?
2)I was reading a Birds of Prey comic in which Cheshire claimed Senator Bob Pullman was her father. Does he have any connection to the Crock family on earth 16?
1. Maybe someday.
2. I believe it was later revealed that the Senator was NOT Cheshire's father. I still claim that Sportsmaster is/was. (At least, pre-New 52.) No one can prove me wrong.
Hi there Mr. Greg!
Love the show and I'm hoping it gets picked up for more seasons.
My questions are:
1. Why did you replace Wentworth Miller as Deathstroke? I thought he had a great voice.
2. I love the animation and the fight sequences do you use a fight choreographer for those?
Thanks for your time.
1. Wentworth wasn't available.
2. We beat up storyboard artists. (Just ask 'em. I'm sure they'll confirm.)
1. How is it possible that Jason Todd be Robin in the five year timeskip with Tim already as Robin in season 2? Its impossible, Dick is 13 in season 1, the minimum age for him to become Nightwing is 17 meaning he just became Nightwing in yj legacy which means jason should be robin in legacy instead of tim as jason becomes robin after dick becomes Nihtwing but it isnt and means jason cant fit in those 5 years of dicks age and tims fast becoming robin. Can you please explain this mess?
2. I heard you had dick grayson be robin in season 1 because you said it be unjust not to have him as robin... and yet its completely unjustified not to have jason todd as robin, you did the thing that you werent goin to do to dick and applied it to jason. Why? Why not have jason as robin in invasion instead of tim?
1. I love how YOU define for me what the minimum age is. I love how you STATE unequivocally that it's impossible. Anyway, it's not a mess at all. It's all been very carefully worked out on paper. It tracks. Just because I haven't chosen to explain it doesn't mean it's a mess or impossible. And I'm still choosing not to explain it, because (a) I didn't love your tone and (b) it's a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. You're choosing to interpret my words the way it suits you. What I said, is that neither Jason nor Tim's origins make any sense without Dick there first. We were starting with the first sidekicks, so we needed to start with Dick. ON TOP OF THAT, Brandon and I also felt a strong affinity to Dick as the original teen sidekick, and felt he should have a place on the Team. But Invasion was taking place five years after the end of Season One. We had to honor and be faithful to that timeline. So we miss Jason and skip right to Tim. But we honor Jason in dialogue and visually. He's still a significant presence. Heck, Brandon directed Red Hood. You know he matters to us.
In the last YJ comic issue, it appears that Marie was under Queen Bee's pheromone influence. Is Marie bisexual or a lesbian?
Yes.
Dear Greg,
Just wanted to say, love the show, big fan! I have just one question: in Complications, Cheshire told Artemis that she only wanted vengence for her death, because she was mad Artemis didn't get to babysit her niece, to which Artemis didn't seem shocked. Does this mean Artemis is already aware of Lian and Roy's marriage to her sister? Was anyone in the Team aware of the whole Roy-Cheshire relationship or is it well known by now?
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
2. It's well known by now.
Do you prefer the longer opening sequence back in most of season one or the shorter one with just the title?
Well, I prefer the long one - but not at the expense of episodic content.
Hi Greg, love the show.
I was just wondering if that after season 2 finishes will we be allowed to see the timeline you have been keeping and if we'll be allowed answers to some questions you have deemed spoilers so far e.g. Jason Todd's age
1. Absolutely not. Only Brandon and I get to see that timeline.
2. Mostly, no. If it's a spoiler, it's a spoiler. And I've already stated my reasons why I'm not going to spoil. Check the archive.
3. As for Jason Todd, I will say that at the end of Season One, he was eleven.
Dear Greg,
Got a chance to watch Complications, & man that was good! First off, Roy was amazing, loved him surviving the depths of warworld, & saving the runaways in the nick of time. I was kinda freaked out when Lex gave them a 'fatherbox', I guess you guys are going with the idea that New Genesis has mother boxes & Apokalips has father boxes? Anyway, I am further confused by the light's overall plan. Although Gordon going off on the Reach was great. Looking forward to next week!
Glad you liked it!
Hi, my questions are related to the the comic book because is not quite clear what´s going on with Dick Grayson´s sort of "love" life.
It is somehow clear that he is looking for a relationship with B.Gordon so then, 1) why the whole Bette and Zee situation? (issue 20) I´m pretty sure you have your reasons but I really will love to know why, only if it´s possible, of course.
And finally since I became a fan of Dick/Zee as a couple I have to ask 2) around what time did the two broke up and under what circumstances they did and how they feel about it now? And again all this is because the kiss in issue 20 makes things quite confusing.
By the way, sorry if my question has already been asked, but if it is I will happily search for it in the Archive.
After reading the final issue my dream of seeing Dick and Zee together....died mostly because I´m not too fond of Dick/Babs since they are canon in most comic books and animated movies, but in general it is an AWESOME show full of suspense and Lex Luthor. I really enjoy it and thanks for it. Hope we get to see more of it in the future.
I'm not sure what to add beyond what Barbara and Dick discussed at the end of issue #25.
Dick's in love with Barbara, but she doesn't believe he's ready to settle down, and she's probably right. So he had a one-night stand with Bette that might develop into something more. And he's had a relationship with Zatanna that dates back at least to the end of Season One. (And, no, I'm not going to SPOIL the details of that relationship here.)
Dear Mr Weisman,
I have a question about the character you wrote called David Xanatos. As you know, he was a manipulative Machiavellian mastermind always trying to win at everything. It was started first when he was dating Fox that he didn't love her at first. So here is my question, while the cold David Xanatos was dating her, did he have any feelings of intimacy towards Fox when they first had intercourse or did he have intercourse as a way to keep her in his hand on the metaphorical chessboard he called life? What I'm saying is basically, when he had the birds and the bees with Fox, did he just do it for his own gains in the future? Did he enjoy it at all?
I don't think of David as cold. And I'm not sure he didn't love her from moment one. The trick was getting him to admit that what he was feeling was love.
And frankly, I think David enjoys pretty much EVERYTHING he does. So sex with Fox? Yeah, I think he had fun.
Long time reader, second time poster, ...
So you have commented in the past that at some point the characters take a life of their own and begin to write for themselves and dictate their actions (rather than you, as a writer trying to force it). Building off that premise ...
1) For Young Justice, is there any character that took a story in a direction other than the direction you were initially envisioning? (i.e. maybe you weren't expecting a story arc to go one way but one character's presence just shed a new perspective on the situation that took the arc in a new direction (or at least new side trek) than originally planned) If so, who/how/when?
2) was there any character (of the primary cast anyway) that took longer (even if just by an episode or two) to come in to his (or her) own in terms of taking a life of his own? if so, who?
as a general comment, i really am enjoying all the characters and their design, stories, and growth. so a thank you to you and your team for all the enjoyment i've gotten (and continue to get) out of YJ/YJ:I/YJ comics :)
incidentally, the same is true for Gargoyles and Spec. Spidey (i still watch dvds of those shows - as recently as this morning - and STILL get enjoyment out of them - the same is not true of many other shows)
1. I'd say that was true of nearly all the major characters, but especially Aqualad, Artemis, Wally, Bart, Superboy and Miss Martian.
2. Not that I recall. Screentime helps, so some of the characters that didn't appear as much may not have grabbed a hold as firmly. But you also need to remember that we had way more stories for EVERY character than we had the opportunity to present in either the comic, t.v. series or video game. So they may be more alive to us than to you guys.
3. Thanks.
I loved your Spectacular Spider-Man TV series. It was far by the BEST interpretation I've seen of Spdier-Man in any of the movies/Televison
1. have you seen The Amazing Spider-Man? Did you notice the little elements they used from SpecSpidey? Like the satchel and the blue shirt? What are your thoughts on that?
2. Would you work on a Spider-Man or a MARVEL show in general again?
1. I don't know if it's fair to cite the blue shirt. I mean, it's a blue shirt. You might as well say "shirt". Even the satchel is pushing it. I did notice little things that seemed to come from our series, but the operative word is SEEMED. Everyone is working off the same source material, so the notion that two groups of creators might independently come up with similar approaches makes a lot of sense.
2. I'd love to. I love those characters. All Marvel has to do is ask.
If the glamour charm is Zatanna's, and she came into contact with Artemis for any reason, would she be able to see Artemis under her disguise, seen as it's Zatanna's spell that changed Artemis. Or would she see Tigress like the others can?
She'd see Tigress. Zatanna's not immune to magic, not even her own.
Who originally came up with the plan for Kaldur to go undercover? Nightwing or was it Kaldur himself?
Kaldur himself came up with the original notion. But they planned it together.
I was just watching Satisfation agian, and my curiosity was peaked. Is there anyway to learn how Crispin felt about playing not only Red Arrow, but Arsenal and Jim Harper as well. I know NOlan voices SUperman and Superman, but it's easy to do 2 characters I've watched Batman enough to see that with the Justice League two part episode A New World. Three Characters, one with a totally different personality from the other.
One other thing, there should be no coinsidence that Jim could be Red's twin, is it possible that Jim is actually a clone of ROy with the real jim harper's memories?
You'd have to ask Crispin how it felt, but he's hardly the first voice actor to play three or more characters in an episode.
Jim (Guardian) and Roy (Red Arrow) are both clones of Roy (Arsenal). Jim does not have the memories of the original Jim Harper (i.e. the Golden Age Guardian, Roy's Great-Grandfather), but then again, Jim never thought he was the original Jim Harper. He THOUGHT he was that Jim Harper's grandson and namesake.
If someone made a show involving anthropomorphic Gargoyles would that 1: bug you or would you be interested in seeing it. 2: would having anthropomorphic Gargoyle characters in the show open them up to a lawsuit by the Walt Disney Company
1. I'm sure it would bug me. Which may not be fair, but there it is.
2. That's for Disney's lawyers to decide.
What is the permanent home for Lian? Are her parents living together now?
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Did Asami run away from her home when the Reach capture her? why did she run away?
No, she ran away long before the Reach captured her.
As to the why, that's a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
So, I just made a connection in my mind from YJ, and I would like to have it confirmed or denied. Was the toxin used on Psimon also used on Ugly and Whisper in Salvage?
Yes. Although, I tend to think that Sportsmaster used a stronger - less safe - dosage.
Considering that Arsenal was able to- defeat a cyborg with a laser cannon using only 1 arm, and (albeit with a weaponized prosthetic- that was low on power) avoid a small army of Reach soldiers in a space station the size of a small moon for like a week- would you say Ollie does in fact "train em well"?
Yes, I would.
I think Ollie's a really good guy. Not perfect, but good. He can be dense sometimes. He's not Batman, but he does very well with what he has. And he feels things intensely. He allows himself that.
As I have fallen in love with the Runaways, my questions shall be focused on them.
1) Ethical issues of their treatment at Star Labs- there are consent laws and various other examples of red tape that meant that Star Labs would need parental consent, along with the teens', in order to perform experiments. Was consent given, or did Star Labs keep the teens illegally?
2) How aware was the League/team of what was happening with the teens in Star Labs?
3)Relating to Tye's comment in 'The Hunt' about Nightwing only asking them to join the team then; why didn't Nightwing ask them if they wished to join the team earlier? (I can see some reasons, such as lack of control, but lack of experience shouldn't inhibit them as the team is partly to train teen heroes).
Thank you for your time!
1. Consent was provided by Eduardo Dorado Sr., Shelly Longshadow, Virgil's parents and Nate's foster-parents. Asami refused to provide any information about her background, beyond her name and the obvious fact that she was from Japan.
2. Yes. Keep in mind, the kids were being rigorously tested, but they weren't being tortured or experimented upon. It was far from ideal, but all concerned thought it was a necessary evil.
3. Nightwing may very well have asked them to join the Team as a matter of course, when Wilcox felt he had conducted all the necessary tests to make sure their powers weren't a danger to themselves or others (i.e. outside the kids' own control - as Nate/Neutron's had been).
I loved seeing the closet full of board games at Wayne Manor.
1. Was this in your script, or was it Chris Jones' idea?
2. Did the games belong to Dick, or were they from when Bruce was a kid? Or some combination of the two?
3. Do Bruce, Dick, and Alfred ever have time to play all those board games?
1. It was in my script.
2. Alfred bought them all.
3. Yes.
Just a quick Queen Bee/ Bialya question- Bee, of course, presents herself as a monarch and I believe you've previously stated that if asked she'd describe Bialya as a constitutional monarchy (but that just about anyone else would call it a straight-up dictatorship). So is she the actual, hereditary monarch of Bialya, or is that propaganda she uses to make her regime look more legitimate?
A little from column A; a little from column B.
1. Is the reason for Jeff Bennett voicing T.O. Morrow and all his (male) androids a shout out to Star Trek? I know Brent Spiner played Data, his "brothers" and their creator.
2. What made you and your team decide to interpret Mongul and Despero the way they appear in the series? Despero is a galactic gladiator rather than a tyrant and Mongul isn't pure evil or petty as he tends to be portrayed.
1. Not particularly. Although it probably springs from the same impulse.
2. Despero has been so many things over the years, that we felt we had the freedom to make him what we needed. As for Mongul, my first exposure to the character was his original Wein/Starlin appearances. I believe we were consistent with those.
With the appearance of Dr. Cross in the series, I was curious about Dr. Mid-Nite. Does the original Dr. Mid-Nite, Charles McNider, exist in Earth 16? If so, was he ever part of the JSA and All-Star Squadron?.... and how long did he serve?
1. Yes.
2. Yes and yes.
3. He joined the All-Star Squadron upon its formation in December of 1941. Then in 1945, when the A-SS disbanded, he joined the Justice Society of America and stayed a member until it disbanded in 1951.
Regarding Dexter, I still think Deb poisoned herself. I think having Hannah admit it was her was the actual red herring.
Hannah took the blame because Dexter had already betrayed her. What's done is done. Dexter wouldn't have believed her even if she said the truth. Why even bring it up?
She was already planning her escape. She doesn't need Dexter's help or acceptance. Now that she escaped, I'm guessing she will get revenge on Dexter, and when Dexter finds out about Deb's deception, it will be a turning point in the 8th season. You think this is plausible or do you think I'm reading too much into it?
P.S. I loved the season, but I would have liked to see a little more development on the fact that Debra helped Dexter kill Jordan Chase. Dexter should have brought it up every time she complained about his killing.
That thought has crossed my mind too.
Hey Greg a timeline question or threerather.
1. You have detailed timelines for Young Justice and Gargoyls, do you do this for everything you do even when you havent built the universe from scratch like in your Captain Atom comics or WITCH?
2. When did you start this trait?
3. You have time and time again noted that YJ has no "canon year" and that 2010 worked for Year Zero as a math thing. So does that mean season two being in 2016 by that reckoning was a coincidence?
1. Not everything, no. I have a Captain Atom timeline from way back, but I'm sure it has no relevance to current DC continuity anymore. I don't think I ever did a WITCH timeline in the strictest sense, but I did make an effort to keep track of the backstories, etc.
2. In elementary school.
3. Heh heh heh.
Peter David was kind enough to forward this link:

#2 out of 25. Not too shabby!
Dear Greg Wesiman,
1. I am a super super fan of most of your shows, only being fourteen my favorite is Young Justice by far it has captivated me into the world of DC Comics (I still like Marvel better :) ) in all seriousness what can we do to stop the Weisman curse, because it is there.
2. This is not really a question but still thank you for all the fan service I really do like Blue Beetle randomly taking off his shirt it makes my Saturday Mornings awesomer.
1. There is no curse. Please DESIST from advancing that rumor. There are specific circumstances behind the success - or lack there of - of every series I've worked on. MOST series don't last forever. I've had good runs of varying length on a number of shows. That's it.
2. You're welcome, I guess.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
"The Hunt" was a good episode. Here are my thoughts about the episode and a an unrelated question
Thought #1 - I was happy that the Reach were seemingly exposed for their true intentions. Still, with Godfrey, I 'm still a little unsure. I'd imagine that Godfrey is probably some undercover agent working for Apokolips, but I'm going to wait and see.
Thought #2 - Thanks to Arsenal's behavior, he's off the Team and with the Runaways. I suppose the only good thing he's done is tell the Runaways about what Lex did to him and the true purpose of the rescue mission. I hope he doesn't do anything crazy…
Thought #3 - I'm glad that Nightwing and Miss Martian are dealing with their mistakes and I'm glad that Miss Martian is not angry at Nightwing about the whole undercover assignment that Kaldur and Artemis are doing. Still, I wonder how everyone might react if Nightwing eventually confesses the truth to everyone?
My question - Which possible character(s) from Marvel Comics would be similar (in terms of background, abilities, etc.) to your interpretation of Arsenal (the real Roy Harper) and why?
Thanks for taking the time to read this posting.
CGYJ
Though I'm happy to read your responses to our episodes, and I don't mind answering questions, PLEASE, PLEASE stop giving me essay assignments.
Why would I be able to answer this any better than you?
Artemis seems a little unhappy with her false death, the disguise and all the situation she is in, mainly because she liked the life she had with Wally. Then, if she is so unsatisfied, why did she accept this mission and put all her happiness of a normal life in risk?
I am not complaining. I am loving the episodes, but I wanted to know what she had in mind when she accepted the mission.
I think she STATES her reasons at various moments in the series. At one point, you literally get to hear her thoughts on the subject. I don't know what else I could add to that.
Hi Greg! I was wondering, does the fact that Red Arrow's house (that we see in 'Salvage') looks a lot alike Red Hood's in "Batman: Under the Red Hood" hold any significance, was it a coincidence or is it spoiler territory? Thanks!
Do you mean Red Arrow's Washington D.C. apartment, which was the same one he was using in "Auld Acquaintance"?
I don't recall if it was reused or not, but if so, I'm sure it was done to save manhours.
Were there other superheroes that existed in the Spectacular Spider-Man universe? Like, Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men etc.
In theory, yes.
Not the Avengers, not yet. (If you mean as a team. Some of the individual members existed.)
The Fantastic Four were in business.
The X-Men had also not yet been formalized as a team. Though Professor X had recently opened his school.
I've answered this in more detail previously. Check the archives.
I loved The Hunt! It was so good to see the runaways again, and Arsenal was awesome throughout the episode... though I do have a small problem with the scene with him and Nightwing...
I'm not saying Dick was wrong to take him off the the Team- he and Karen had good points. As much as I love the character, Roy doesn't always hold the Team's best interests at heart, and would have probably been a huge liability if he'd been allowed to stay on the Team in his current mental condition. My problem, however, was with how Dick decided to handle the issue- in front of potential teammates and allies (he ended up alienating the runaways) and basically letting a loose cannon with severe PTSD walk about in the open. Arsenal has serious issues and needs help, and isolation probably isn't going to do him any good. Pardon my rudeness when I say this, but did no one think of giving him counselling or something of the like before letting him join the Team?
You're assuming that no one thought to counsel him beforehand, but I've already addressed that. Check the archives.
As to Nightwing's timing, I think it's clear he made a mistake. It happens. He's under a lot of pressure, and sometimes people under pressure make the wrong call.
where did Demona's tiara come from?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
I just recently became aware you worked on the series 'Disney's Bonkers', which I spent many teenage afternoons watching. First off thank you for whatever contribution you made, I enjoyed that show. I haven't seen the showing years, but knowing your love of Shakespeare, I'm kinda surprised you didn't have a character called off. Dogberry. ;)
I helped develop Bonkers in my role as Director of Development at Walt Disney Television Animation. That is, I helped develop the original Bonkers/Miranda series, i.e. the episodes that wound up airing last, after the Bonkers/Piquel episodes. But I wasn't the producer or even a writer on the series, so I didn't name any characters.
In the comic issue #7 Artemis tries to be a hero on her own
1.Why is it that before Artemis became Green Arrows protege her costume matched his?
2.Is it just a coincident that she choose green?
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
2. No.
1) Did La'gaan know Jason Todd?
2) Did La'gaan date anyone before M'gann?
3) How did he come up with the name Lagoon Boy?
4) In the comic, YJ#14, Aqualad said that La'gaan, Blubber, etc. were former classmates. But they were a wide range of ages. La'gaan was 12 at the time, was he at the same learning level as Kaldur? Basically what I'm wondering here is if they were actually in the same class or Kaldur just meant they were fellow pupils at the Conservatory.
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. Ever?
3. His own real first name inspired it. Plus he saw Creature from the Black Lagoon.
4. Fellow pupils, though they may have had a class or two in common.
Hi there! Greg I have a little request more than a question for you...and since you could easily answer me that you could but won't do it, I would like you to see it as a challenge;
Could you describe how would it be the last scene of the last episode of Hello, Megan? Please??? And thank you :)
No, I'm sorry. But I don't know it off the top of my head. So I'd have to figure it out, and I don't figure out that kind of stuff lightly. So it would take time. And I don't have that time. And, as I've said here before, I'm not looking for Ask Greg posters to come up with CHALLENGES for me. It's incredibly presumptuous, for starters, and it puts me in the awkward position of having to write up something like THIS, which makes me look like a jerk for not rising to your challenge. Thanks.
I'd like to congratulate you on finding a publisher for "Rain of the Ghosts" and getting a publishing date established. I'll be looking out for it in the bookstores come early December.
I remember hearing that that story was a radio play at one of the past Gatherings; presumably it was something you conceived of on your own rather than something you were put in charge of, like "Gargoyles" by Disney, since you're able to submit it to publication.
I wish you all the better since I've written a fantasy story that I'm hoping to find a publisher for (I found once a few years ago, but it didn't work out); alas, I can't recommend it to you when I do get it published, since the Arthurian legend (and other legends, such as Norse mythology) plays a major role in it, and I remember you said that you're keeping away from modern treatments of that so that they won't contaminate your vision. But it definitely makes me appreciate your joy in getting your story published all the more.
Thanks, Todd.
Rain of the Ghosts was originally created (by me) when I was in development at DreamWorks Televsion Animation. The series was developed with a team of great individuals, including John Skeel, Lydia Marano and Jon Weisman. We sold it to Nick, and I wrote an hour pilot. (And it was that pilot that we did as a radio play at the second Gathering.) Then the deal with Nick fell through, and Rain sat on the shelf for a while.
But I couldn't get it out of my head, so I went to Jeffrey Katzenberg, and he agreed to let me have the publishing rights. And I wrote a novel. And I tried to sell it. And I failed.
About a decade plus passes, and I was done with Young Justice, and I decided to revisit Rain. So I did a rewrite and sent it out again to my managers and to an acquaintance who is an editor at St. Martin's Press. Three weeks later, they bought it, as well as the second book in the nine-book series. It's very exciting. And I'm just having a blast writing the second book.
Hello Mr. Weisman,
Sorry to hear about Young Justice not being renewed for a third season. I really enjoyed its entire run, just as I enjoyed the two seasons your previous shows were given. I look forward to the next two we get as well.
I'm kidding, of course; I certainly hope you get more than two seasons in whatever project you work on next. It is frustrating, however, that shows of the caliber that you produce are consistently robbed of a longer run. No matter what happens in the future, I know your fans can rely on you to give us some quality entertainment.
On that note, consider your book bought, by the way. I very much look forward to reading it.
My question to you is this: Have you gotten a chance to see the film Cloud Atlas? I ask mainly because Keith David has a few supporting roles in it, which i found very enjoyable. From my own family and friends' reactions to it, I'd say it is rather a "hate-it-or-love-it" film, but I liked it, and I'd think you might, too.
Thank you, and good luck.
I didn't see it. I did read the book some time ago. There was a lot I loved about it, but a few things I had problems with. Enough that I didn't run out to see the movie.
Why was Mal living in the Cave? Doesn't he have his own place?
He didn't at the time Mount Justice was destroyed.
As for why... how about FREE RENT and NO COMMUTE.
Jaime's house looks like it's from a nice upper middle class neighborhood. Does his dad still own an auto repair place on earth-16? What does Mrs. Reyes do? Does Milagro exist on earth-16?
I also noticed that Tye lives in an area almost opposite of where Jaime lives. Was this contrast made on purpose?
I'm not going to go into details about characters we have not yet been introduced to. Let alone whether or not they exist on Earth-16. It's all SPOILER REQUESTS. NO COMMENT.
We did want to contrast Tye and Jaime.
Was that a Stephanie Brown missing poster in #25?
Maybe. You might have to ask Chris Jones.
Hi Greg, I'll get to the point. I was re-watching 'Depths' and wondered:
1-When Superboy told M'gann he didn't tell the League about her abusing her powers because he thought he mattered enought to her to make her stop, and she clearly didn't stop untill what happend to Aqualad. Does it mean she doesn't care that much for him?
1a-Regarding her relationship with Lagoon Boy and her ended relationship with Superboy, I can get that she loves them both but whom is she in-love with?
2-At the end of the episode, when Artemis asked Nightwing about he got the Glamour Charm from Zatanna he answered 'We have a history'...my question, and considering there's only 4 eps left to air (at least while I'm asking this questions) is that ALL that will be told about Dick and Zatanna's relationship during the 5 years gasp?
Last but not least, and I bet you get this one alot (apologies for that) How do you feel about the cancelaton of the show? It's certainly one of the very few good showzs on CN (in my opinion) I can't believe it won't get a 3th Season!
Thanks for your time.
1. No.
1a. I think it's clear she's not "in love" with La'gaan.
2. There's a touch more in the comics, but, yes.
3. Not cancelled. Just not picked up. But obviously, I'm not thrilled. Would have loved to have done more.
Hello Greg Thank you for all your work on all your shows. I was watching my Gargoyles season 1 DVDs and I have a question regarding Coldstone. Where did Xanatos and Demona get the gargoyle pieces that make up Coldstone? Did they come with Castle Wyvern when Xanatos transported it from Scotland?
As I recall, yes.
Is Garfield Logan the biological son of Marie Logan?
Yes.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Twenty:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Twenty. This one contained more mythology. The myths are really fun to write.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty-One.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK ONE UPDATE: THE MAP!
Here's yet another of my on-going shameless attempt to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
I'm happy to report that I've just seen the final version of the MAP OF THE GHOST KEYS, which will appear at the front of the book. I absolutely love it. It's gorgeous! I want to frame it and put it on my wall. Heck, I want to take it with me and visit the Ghosts!
C'mon, you know you want to visit too! So pre-order. Go ahead! INDULGE!!! (It's cheaper than a Royal Caribbean Cruise.)
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Nineteen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not too much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Nineteen. This one had a few built-in difficulties. First off, it's basically one long scene of people talking around a table outside a fast-food joint. And of course, you want to keep that interesting, even when what they're mainly doing is researching stuff on a cellphone. Plus, because the leads are sitting in a very public place, there were a lot of characters to juggle in and out of the scene, and I wanted to keep that organic and graceful, not awkward and choppy. I think I succeeded, but I suppose you'll all let me know next year.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Twenty.
Hey Greg, I was wondering, since Earth-16 is (apparently) still in the DC Multiverse, and Grant Morrison is doing Multiversity, which will include a full map and profile of all the Universes, have you or anyone on the YJ team been in talks with Grant about the details of Earth-16?
Nope. I'd love to be included, but it hasn't come up.
Were Barbara and Dick each others' first kisses?
For Barbara, yes.
For Dick, well, I guess it depends on how you're defining "first kiss". But Dick and Barbara's kiss in issue #25 of the comic takes place before Dick and Zatanna's kiss in episode 126 of the series. But Zatanna kissed Dick earlier then either of those two kisses in issue #20 of the comic. But it was basically just a peck, so I don't know if you'd count that.
What happened during the time skip with Zatanna and Nightwing?
What history do they have together?
They dated. They broke up. They stayed friends. Close friends. (Etc.)
Hi Greg! Love the show -- especially the 2nd Season. So tense, exciting and AWESOME. For my money, it's the best serial drama on TV...
I was wondering how the season might have been different if you had 26 episodes versus the 20 we got. Would we have had more stand-alones like "Secrets" or are there important lost chapters in your timeline that were deemed to simply be less essential than what we saw onscreen? Not to say that the season feels rushed at all -- I love super-compact storytelling with all kinds of criss-crossing plotlines. I just love this season so much that I wish we had a few more adventures to enjoy!
Thanks for all your great work and I can't wait to see what you're working on next. (P.S. I pre-ordered Rain of the Ghosts -- so excited!)
Thanks for the kind words. And THANKS VERY MUCH for pre-ordering Rain of the Ghosts!!!
I think I've pretty much covered your question already. We NEVER had 26 episodes, so we only built the season for 20. So I can't say for absolute sure what would or wouldn't have been included in the hypothetical situation in which we had six more. But I'm sure it would have allowed for more screen time for characters who got shorter shrift this season. And I'm fairly certain we would have had a Zatanna story and maybe a Red Tornado story.
I recently read one of post about Reawakening and you said that even though some people saw the gargolyes and coldstone, the public still didnt know about them because there was no proof. I cant help but find this funny, because in todays day and age pretty much everyone carries a camera AND the internet in there pocket, so it is far easier to get phsiycal proof of something. So im curious but if you would have done things a little differently if the series had been set in a more recent time?
Obviously.
Mr. Weisman,
First, I find it surprising how Earth-16's Brainiac is neither good nor evil, as opposed to how he is portrayed in the comics and recent television cartoons as an evil character... I guess that means Earth-16's Brainiac had nothing to do with Krypton's destruction after all... What made you decide to make Brainiac so different from all his other counterparts in the DC multiverse.
Second, I felt bad for Superman because he never got the chance to ask Brainiac if anything was collected from Krypton. Do you think Brainiac probably actually DID collect something from Krypton? If so, what are the chances that Brainiac probably preserved the city of Kandor before Krypton's destruction? Would Superman eventually have found out something at some point in time (probably after the events of Season Two)?
Lastly, I'm disappointed that the origin of Superboy's Kryptonian name has not been addressed. Will we find out in the video game, or is this going to be left an open-ended mystery?
1. I went back to the core of the character's original mission. To collect sample cities from multiple worlds. And I ran with that.
2. I think you should look more carefully at the issues themselves. Beyond that, SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. Given enough issues and/or episodes, all would have been covered. Unfortunately, we just didn't get them.
What is the West maneuver?
Check out issue #24 of our companion comic. Or try: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/West_Maneuver
The youngjustice.wikia is a GREAT source for info about the show, and certainly would get you an answer faster than waiting from February to May to hear from me.
But I am curious? How did you hear about the West Maneuver without reading issue #24? And if you read issue #24, why did you need to ask the question?
Hey Greg, not so much a question as congratulations on publishing your first novel, may it be the first of many. I already have "Rain of The Ghosts" pre-ordered on Amazon.
Thank you!!! The more pre-orders and first week sales, the better the odds that the nine-book series will get past the second book!
In "The Fix", Artemis mentioned that someone once tried to teach her Atlantean. Was it Kaldur, Garth or Tula? Or more than one of the aforementioned trio? Were other members of the Team given some lessons too?
<sigh> Watch the episode again. She clearly states that she took Atlantean during her Freshman year at college. (I mean, doesn't everybody?)
In response to an earlier question, you said that Wonder Girl is probably Christian with a "new respect for Amazon Pagan." Just curious, but if her dad is Zeus, wouldn't she believe in the Greek gods? Is Zeus perhaps not actually a god in Young Justice?
You're assuming she always knew her dad was Zeus. Heck, you're even assuming she knows that now.
Neither are safe assumptions. (Though one is safer than the other.)
i do not understand the ending of the young justice comic issue 10.
1.is Captain Adams evil?
No. I'm not even sure where you'd get that idea. Are you confusing Captain Adams with Wade Eiling?
I am kinda confused with this entire plan that Nightwing,Aqualad,Wally, and Artemis has to find out the light's new partner.
1.When did they find out the light had a new partner?
2.Who started the whole plan?
3.how did each person come to be in on the plan?
4. what is the difference with venom and cobra venom?
You've got the whole thing backwards.
They started out to infiltrate and bring down the LIGHT. Finding the new partner was something that came up along the way.
1. Watch the episodes. Sorry, but I'm tired of reiterating stuff that was 100% clear on the series itself.
2. Aqualad and Nightwing.
3. Watch the episodes.
4. Watch the episodes.
Artemis didn't seemed shocked when Cheshire mentioned Lian Harper. How long has Artemis known about her niece, and who else knows about Lian besides the characters that have already been shown to know?
I haven't nailed down an exact date when Artemis learned, but she learned AFTER Roy, if that helps.
An ever-widening handful of people know.
1.Do Zatarra and Zatanna have magic? 2.like are they magical beings or do their magic come from the spells they read?
3.and if so does that mean anyone can read their spells aloud and do what they do?
1. Is this a trick question?
2. The latter.
3. No. It takes training and focus and a certain natural inclination. The spells themselves are the icing on the cake.
1.Did aqualad know Kid Flash,Red arrow, and Robin before they became a team?
2.were they friends?
1. That's stated in the show. Yes.
2. Yes. Again, if you watch the show, you'd KNOW that Kid Flash and Robin were best friends, and that Aqualad's best surface friend was Speedy/Red Arrow. And they all knew each other and got along.
Why didn't Martian Manhunter bring Megan when the team went to the hall of justice?
I assume she was who they were talking about when they told martian manhunter that is was good that they didn't bring her and he agreed
I don't think he had quite decided what to do with her yet. He had more or less decided not to send her back to Mars, but he wasn't sure about the sidekick thing. Or if he wanted her revealed to the public.
in the comics Megan tells the team that she won a competition to be Martian Manhunter's sidekick but we later find out that that was false and really Martian Manhunter found that she had snuck into his ship.
1. How exactly did Megan convince Martian Manhunter that she was his niece?, 2.wouldn't he be suspicious of a girl in his ship?
3.is it true that he wasn't really certain that she really was his niece
1. He's psychic. Lying isn't too effective.
2. Initially, but he understood what she had gone through on Mars as a White Martian. And he was sympathetic.
3. No. What's true was that he didn't really know her at all. He has a LOT of nieces and nephews, and considering he's spent DECADES away from Mars, he does not have a personal relationship with very many of them.
If Bart Allan, Flash's grandson got superspeed does that mean flash's children got powers as well?
It seems logical. Plus, didn't Bart say he learned a trick or two from his dad?
How did Dick Grayson think up the name Nightwing?
That's a damn good question. I could write SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT. But the truth is, I don't know yet. It's something I'll need to figure out if I ever get to revisit those years.
How do Jaime Reyes's parents feel about his secret identity as Blue Beetle now that he has gone public as of the end of "Complications"?
Well, he didn't exactly go public. He opened up his face mask and showed that he was human, but he didn't give his name and social security number or anything. You couldn't even see his hair.
Still, I can't imagine they were pleased, can you?
When did Robin reveal his identity to Kid Flash?
When he was ready.
How can Sportsmaster look so young for his age? Are the Lazarus pits involved?
Crusher credits his youthful appearance to good genes and an extensive exercise regimen. Plus he eats right. No pits involved at all. Not even olive.
Was there an element of you fearing that having Donna Troy on the Team in season 2 would be too much like having a female Superboy around?
Nope.
This might be cliche, but what was your favourite thing about working on Young Justice.
Surely as we're all telling you how much this show means to us and has had an effect on us, no one's been asking you about your experience on the show. Since obviously the writer goes through a different experience than the fans.
And thank you so much for creating this amazing show!
You're welcome.
Um... there was a lot to love. I had a great partner, Brandon. I had great collaborators, including Phil and the other artists, Kevin and the other writers, Jamie and the ENTIRE cast (but particularly our regulars), Jho and everyone else in post, Lolita, Kris and Michael. David and so many other great people. They were all a dream to work with. The fan response was frustrating at times, but mostly and ultimately very gratifying. Voice recordings were always fun, but there's nothing like a sound mix when it all comes together. Plus, think of the characters I had the privilege to work on! And I'm proud as hell of the final product.
This just dawned on me...
1. Is the reason you didn't name Brainiac, well, "Brainiac" because that is actually the stage-name of Milton Fine, whome I suppose you are calling the Collector of Worlds was posessed by?
If this is true...
2. were there any plans on using Brainiac-proper eventually?
3. Is the Collector of Worlds from Colu?
4. Is his name Virl Dox?
5. Does he have a son? (I think you know where I'm going with this one...the L.E.G.I.O.N. seem like they would make a perfect fit in the show, as you've done so well showcasing aliens, alien planets, and the politics of the galaxy in general).
1. Huh? Sorry, I can't quite figure out what you're asking here. But the reason I used "Collector of Worlds" was because the name fit better. But we tried to pay homage to ALL of Brainiac's other names.
2. I'm not clear on what you mean by "Brainiac-proper". If you just mean the name, we've already used it. (Then again, maybe you wrote this before we did. In which case, I'm wondering why you didn't wait to ask until after the multi-parter was over.)
3. Have you read the issues?
4. We list many of his names in the comics: Vril Dox; Notlimenif; The Computer Tyrant of Bryak; The Brain of Colu; The Maniac of Yod. Plus Flash mixes up the last two and calls him the Brainiac of Izod.
5. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Greg I can't imagine no new Young Justice. I was really looking forward to another season because I know it would be crazy addictingly (a new word) good.
I was really looking forward to Starfire, since you guys said she's something you're thinking about for a season 3.
I just wanna tell you we are not giving up, we will always support Young Justice and make Cartoon Network air these episodes one way or another.
Hell, why don't you just go to another program?
Thanks for the amazing shows, Greg. You've been obviously told this before but you've got some talent. Cartoon Network obviously doesn't see it. It's their loss.
Um, I get along pretty well with the folks at CN. I really think the decision had less to do with me than with overall trends and the current version of conventional wisdom and economics than anyone at all thinking that YJ was a bad show.
Hey Greg, in War, I was curious as to why Blue reacted the way he did in the end RIGHT AFTER Cassie kissed Roy.
Did the situation trigger some more biochemical things going on that made him attack right then and there? I mean it could've been another time with the whole team. Who knows, I'm probably over thinking it.
& is there a reason why Blue knocked out everyone except Wonder Girl?
You're WAY over-thinking it. Blue Beetle was not in control of his own body. The scarab was under complete Reach control. They wanted the Crystal Key, and that meant they had to make their move at that moment to keep it. Plus it was the perfect opportunity to take out the entire Team. It had NOTHING at all to do with Cassie giving Roy a peck on the cheek.
I saw this quote and immediately thought of Superboy and Miss Martian.
"If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you won't give up. If you give up, you're not worthy. ...Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for."
Do you agree?
I don't actually. So let's break it down.
*My wife is amazing, and getting along with her was easy from the first moment we spoke together.
*I suppose it depends what one means by "easy", but by any definition easy does not mean that it won't be amazing.
*Is she's worth it, it's good not to give up - unless she's made it clear that she's not interested. Then you should give up and move on. Or else you're a stalker.
*If you give up, you might indeed be unworthy. But this SO depends on the circumstances. You might be the better man for giving up.
*Truth is, NOT everybody is going to hurt you - not in a significant way. You'd definitely be better off with folks who don't hurt you.
*No relationship is perfect, but if you're actually 'suffering', then I'd have my doubts that person is worth it.
Basically, I don't believe in the kinds of absolute statements this quotation is making. (I'd be nearly as suspicious if it said the exact opposite in the same absolutist manner. Nearly.) Worse, I think the statement suggests a romantic view of love through conflict which is antithetical to my actual personal experience.
Instead, here's my advice: The best lover/spouse/etc. you can find is one who is also your best friend. And friends don't make friends suffer. Or drive drunk. Etc.
1. How was Nathaniel Tryon (Neutron) captured by the Reach? 2. Was Nathaniel a Runaway like Tye and Eduardo?
3. What is Nathaniel's general backstory up to his kidnapping?
1. He was a runaway.
2. Yes.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
I would imagine Wally and Jade (Cheshire) have had a little contact because she is Artemis' sister. How do they get along?
Cautiously on his part. With amusement on hers.
Dear Greg,
Saw Complications, & dang! First off, I liked Slade getting more development, ever the schemer. And Megan was amazing this episode, single-handedly masterminding her escape & possibly gaining two new allies in the op. And man I'm happy to see Kal back to normal. But what I'm intrigued by was the end, when Dick used his detective skills to realize Scarab & B'arrzz. Man do I pity them when he gets a plan together.
Pass on my praise & I eagerly await the next episode!
Thanks! Hope you liked it!
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Eighteen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I'm on a bit of a roll. It's flowing pretty easy for now - but I really don't want to jinx it. I just finished writing Chapter Eighteen. It has some complicated visuals in it, so I hope I brought the imagery to life.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Nineteen.
Hi Greg,
I was wondering in the final episode of SSM (final curtain) was that really Norman Osborn at the airport? I am so sad that the series never got it's third season it was such a good show, but because it was cancelled that cliffhanger will never be resolved.
Yes. (Were you REALLY in doubt?)
Some questions about SpecSpidey...
Did you have any plan to reveal the origins of A)Hammerhead's... well, hammer-head
B)Tombstone's durable skin
c)the Venom symbiote?
A. Nothing specific, but I know exactly how it happened, and it was in fact hinted at in "Accomplices".
B. Not confirming or denying that he has that.
C. It came from outer space.
Hi. I realize that the companion comic book has been cancelled. Is there a possibility of some sort of a re-launch under a different title? It would give you a chance to tie up loose threads, and there might be a larger audience for it now that the show has been cancelled.
That was my thinking when Chris Jones and I pitched doing a book entitled "EARTH-16", but DC said it didn't fit their plans. Oh, well.
Even though at first Bart was only interested in Blue Beetle because of his part in the Reach apocalypse, did he genuinely grow attached to Jaime? Or was that all part of him keeping a close eye on Blue Beetle to prevent a disastrous future?
I think it's clear that they are legitimately friends.
O I forgot about another question I had: What is Martian Manhunter's new human biological age equivalent in 2016? We know Miss Martian's was 16 in 2010 and 18 in 2016, but for Martian Manhunter we do not know. (I am one of the frequent editors on the YJ wiki).
For all Martians, I take chronological age and divide by three and then I round up or down to the nearest whole number. I figure you can do the same.
I just wanted to say how much I like this show. You and the people working on this show have created a well structured, interesting story. I hope you get that chance to continue on to a season three.
As far as question, are Bart's parents alive in his time line?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
First of all, let me say that I am a big fan of you show YJ and I loved TSS while it was on. Watching season 2 I noticed the sheer amount of characters that are now on the show that you juggle. I read an interview in which you mentioned that the core 6 characters from season 1 are your main characters. But that doesn't really seem the case. Wally, for example, doesn't even seem a supporting character since he's almost completely MIA this season. Did you make a conscious decision from the beginning to shift focus away from the original characters or did the story just shape that way while you were writing it.
Another question regarding story, even though Wally is retired, wouldn't he come out of retirement when the world was threatened with destruction by Mongul in 'War'.
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED. Here mostly: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/youngjustice/backstage/interview12.php
The World's Finest: I personally believe that, even with the growth of the cast in the second season, Young Justice is still about the original core team introduced at the start of the first season. Would that be a correct statement to make?
Greg Weisman: Not exactly. I would say that the original core Team was more of a priority than some of the new characters. But fundamentally the second season was plot-driven. I don't think we sacrificed character, but characterization would have to come on the fly in service of the larger story. Season One was about us weaving a tapestry to introduce world, characters, conflicts, etc. Season Two had a single driving story (on multiple fronts) and the characters that have been emphasized - or at any rate received the most screen time - were the ones that the story required. So early in Season Two, you see more of Superboy - but less of him in the second half. On the other hand, Artemis barely appeared in the first half-dozen episodes, but her role became quite important, starting in episode 207 and forward. Blue Beetle, as a creation of the Reach, was obviously going to increase in importance as the season progressed and more and more of that connection and its accompanying dilemma were revealed. And because we only had 20 episodes in Season Two, rather than the 26 we had in Season One, I think it's fair to say that certain characters got shorter shrift than others. But the goal was never to give everyone equal time, but rather to make the most of what time we had to offer. I suppose one could make the argument that certain characters didn't need to appear at all, i.e. the fewer the characters, the more screen time there would be for those that made the cut. But (a) I'm not sure the audience would all agree on exactly who should make that cut, and (b) we had fun with every single character for as much or as little time as we could afford to give them. (I wouldn't choose to cut Wonder Girl just because her only big episode was "Beneath".) So instead, we just tried to be true to our continuity and introduce the characters that we felt would be there five years on. If some of those Freshmen - and even some of our Juniors and Seniors - didn't receive equal time with everyone else, I can live with that.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED. Who said he didn't? Lots of heroes were helping with the destruction caused by the Warworld's mere proximity to Earth. And if Dick had wanted him to join the Team for the raid on the Warworld, he would have come along too. But Dick didn't ask.
So, about Complications (which was an AWESOME episode, by the way)...
1)How did Crusher and Jade manage to find the Manta-Flyer?
2)Sportsmaster calls Deathstroke by his first name: does this mean that they are old friends/old partners/old something?
3)Speaking of Deathstroke, can you confirm that his full name is Slade Wilson?
4)How old is Deathstroke?
5)(This isn't directly tied in with the episode, but hey, since I'm here) How many years ago Aquaman and Manta fought for the first time?
1. Sportsmaster had contingencies in place before he risked any split with the Light.
2. "Friends" might be pushing it, but they've clearly worked together before. Just ask Ted Kord. (Ooh, sorry.)
3. Yes.
4. By the end of Season ONE, Deathstroke was 47.
5. I have not nailed down a specific year for that yet, but it was LONGER ago than the conception of Kaldur'ahm.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Seventeen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Seventeen. I like the ending of this one too. It's cheeky.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Eighteen.
When Miss Martian was wearing the inhibitor collar on Black Manta's sub, why didn't she revert to her White Martian form?
Her shape-changing abilities had been shut down by the collar. She was locked in to her current form.
In Young Justice issue 20, why didn't Dick Grayson want Bette Kane to see Artemis Crock and Wally West on his laptop?
I think it was more he didn't want them seeing her. He's a gentleman.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
"Complications" was an amazing episode. I guess SOME good news came out of it, after all…
My thoughts about "Complications":
A. Blue's Attempt At Lying and Nightwing's Private Investigation - So the Team members that went to Warworld were taken somewhere and Blue lied about the circumstances of what happened. I'm quite surprised that Arsenal wasn't pointed out as a potential suspect, given that he was the only one that managed to escape… Blue might have briefly fooled Nightwing, but luckily our favorite detective didn't completely buy into it. I'm glad he was able to quickly figure out what happened, but I hope he somehow manages to connect it to Green Beetle (who still hides his true intentions) … Also, the pissed-off expression he gave at the end of the episode was priceless….
B. Aqualad's Recovery - Now if it wasn't for the abrupt cancellation of the tie-in comic and the limited episode count, I would have REALLY liked to see how the recovery process of Aqualad's mind went down. Seriously, I did NOT expect Aqualad to already be recovered and to be in mental conversation with Miss Martian, but I'm guessing that he probably forgave her for what she did to him (given that this was not shown at all). Even though he is no longer the leader of the Team, he does his best to somehow coordinate a plan to keep his friends and himself. While I'm glad he's back in the game, it's sad he's still stuck doing his undercover assignment. Well…., it's better than being stuck in a catatonic state, right?
C. Too Many Close Calls! - Aqualad nearly gets himself killed trying to explain the truth to Chesire! Artemis nearly gets killed by her father! And then Miss Martin stops the madness in the nick of time. Then there's the thing with Deathstroke trying to catch Miss Martian again…. I practically lost count as to how many close calls there were!
D. Black Manta's Aggressive Behavior - So Manta's soldiers set a bomb on the door but he blows it up early with his men caught in the blast?! Is Manta normally like this with his soldiers?!
E. I Still Have A Bad Feeling - Now I know this was not mentioned in any way in this episode, but I am still concerned about Psimon. He was placed in a catatonic sate for weeks and the time it took to recover Aqualad's mind DID in fact took weeks. If Psimon recovers, it's bad news for Artemis and maybe for Aqualad as well. There is a contingency plan for this inevitability, right?
Thanks of taking the time to read my thoughts.
CGYJ
B. I think Miss Martian and Aqualad's reveleation was shown. In the "Fix".
D. No. Not at all. But concern for his son trumped their well-being.
E. The contingency was called Tigress, who made sure Psimon STAYED catatonic until after "Summit".
1. How much power does doctor fate and klarion possese.
2. Could klarion take on the whole justice league by himself, not including doctor fate.
1. Plenty o'
2. Sure. So could I. So could you. Don't know how well we'd all fare, but we could take 'em on!
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
I just read your ramble posting about John Wells, which was quite interesting. You said he was the one who provided research on the DC universe for you and all the other people who worked on the Young Justice TV series and comic books.
Research-wise, is the source material that he uses only comes from pre-"Flashpoint" DC Comics continuity, or does he also uses source material from The New 52 as well?
Thanks for taking the time to read this posting.
CGYJ
As I've stated AD NAUSEUM, we were all DONE before New 52 started. So his research came from before that. But that wasn't a policy decision or any kind of value judgement. New 52 simply didn't exist yet. It's a function of schedules. (HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I SAID THIS?)
Why was Wentworth Miller replaced by Fred Tastaciore?
Wentworth was no longer available to us, but Fred did a great job, don't you think?
1a) Why did you use Cassie Sandsmark before Donna Troy when you made a point to use Dick Grayson before Tim Drake and Wally West before Bart Allen?
1b) Why haven't you at least acknowledged the existence of Donna (if she's around) this season like you did with Garth when Kaldur went back to Atlantis in season 1?
1a. We had planned on introducing Troia as someone who joined AND left the Team during the five year break. But for reasons already stated here, it didn't work out.
1b. We had planned to. It didn't work out.
Was Queen Bee's design based off of Marina Sirtis? I see a slight resemblence.
No. She was designed long before we cast the roll.
I really gotta know, in Season 1, The Joker tried to kill every one present with Joker Venom when the Injustice League surrendered. While it would seem like he didn't care if he died as long as he killed everyone, Joker is immune to the deadly gas in the comics. Was he really trying to pull a genuine "Taking you with me"? Or is he immune in the YJ canon, and planned to make a getaway once the venom killed everyone?
I like it ambiguous.
Oh, no I just heard that Legacy may be pushed back until October. I hope that everything's okay, since the last interview I saw said it was basically done. Not really a question, but just a note saying I am really, really looking forward to it, and I hope it's going really well!
Last I heard it was September.
I have a question about Gargoyles 2198, specifically Demona going into space with Nokkar, Zafiro, Guardian, and LXM-1057. I suppose this doesn't count as a spoiler request.
How would Puck's spell of transformation work when there is, effectively no sunrise and sunset?
How could it NOT count as a "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT."?
Hi.
How does Superboy and Superman's relationship improve over the 5 year gap? Like, do they spend time together or something?
Among other things, yes.
When one of the Green Lanterns uses the Zeta tubes and the system announces their arrival/departure, how does it name them? Does it just say, "Recognized, Green Lantern, [number]" for all of them, or does it call John and Guy by their real names since their identities are public anyway?
It just gives their nom-de-guerre (i.e. Green Lantern) and designation.
How do you guy's come up with the sound effect's for the show? Like for example Black Canary's cry?
The great team at Audio Circus, led by Otis Van Osten, creates our sound effects.
AND BIG NEWS, our sound mixer CARLOS SANCHES was just nominated for an EMMY AWARD for the sound mixing on the YJ episode "Bloodlines"!!!!
Why do you make it so hard to hate Black Manta? I know he's evil and all but...from what I've seen so far he's kind of a good dad
Everything's relative. Pun intended.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
Here are soem questions that I wanted to ask you in regards to Deathstroke.
1. I'm going to guess it's a no-brainer that Deathstroke's real name is Slade Wilson. That said, has he served in the U.S. military on Earth-16, and if so, what is his rank (being that it varies in various media that shows his character)?
2. If I remember correctly, one of Deathstroke's unique abilities in the comics was being able to use 90% of his brainpower (in comparison to the rest of humanity, who can only use 10%). Does this hold true on Earth-16 as well?
3. In the comics (specifically pre-Flashpoint), Nightwing was Deathstroke's nemesis and Green Arrow caused the loss of Deathstroke's right eye. On Earth-16, did this version Deathstroke have that same connection with the Earth-16 versions of Green Arrow and Nightwing, or did things happened differently?
4. What weapons and martial arts would you say Deathstroke is most proficient in?
5. Is there anything you can share about Deathstroke's family on Earth-16?
Thanks for taking the time to read this posting.
CGYJ
1. His name is Slade Wilson. Everything else you're asking is a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. No. Because that notion that human beings only use ten percent of their brains was always baloney. It's an urban myth and just flat-out untrue. So Deathstroke may have found a way to utilize his brain more efficiently, but I'm not going to base a super-power on science that starts out bad in the first place.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
4. All of them. (Or what you see is what you get. Whichever answer you prefer.)
5. Yes. But can and will are two different things. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hi Greg! I just want to thanks you and the crew for the amazing work on Young Justice, I really hope we'll be able to see more.
Anyways, I just want to know where was Zatanna during "War" ? I know we saw Dr.Fate and I was under the impression that Zatanna would more than likely always want to keep an eye on Fate since it is Zatara in there, so why didn't she protect Fate while he was protecting Earth?
Thanks again!
And how exactly would she have done that in the vacuum of space?
Figure, like most of the League, she was busy rescuing people from the gravitational repercussions of Warworld being so close to the Earth.
Youve said before that Captian Atom has metal alloy skin, not a shell. So is he as anatomically correct as a Ken doll or something?
And shouldnt he be wearing some pants? If all the silver is his skin, it lloks like all he is wearing are boots, gloves, and a symbol on his chest, which leave NOTHING to the imagionation...exept what happened to his genitalia.
Can he even have any more kids if he wanted to?
The metal covers his private parts and his toes by subconscious choice. The not-a-shell statement was in response to being asked if he was a Wildfire-style energy being beneath a metal shell. He's not. He's a fully organic human being beneath an alien metal coating.
Dear Greg,
Finally watched last weekend's YJ, and man, The Light continues to confuse me! I mean, did Vandal tell Mongul about the Reach to stop them or to help the, I cant figure it out!
Moving on to not-so-confusing stuff, I loved the bickering between Mal & Karen, that was great. And I loved Mongul, excellent to hear Keith David again. But Beetle at the end, damn! We knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it suck any less.
Glad we kept you guessing!
In your latest response to a question quite some time ago (tangent: you must be really busy. I hope thats a good sign), you said so far nobody has asked Batman to use the wrist mounted holo-computer cave tech.
And Bumblebee was using what looked like the same tech in 'War', so was she the first one to ask?
Also, nobody ever having asked implies Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) didnt use it either. Did he invent something better? Because, Ted NOT using ANY kind of nifty gadget he could get his hands on, especially if all he had to do is ask, just seems wrong.
I haven't tracked this. The tech is available to all members of the Team and the League.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, BOOK TWO COUNTDOWN, Chapter Sixteen:
Here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.): http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
Since there's not much to report about the first book now, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND book in the Rain franchise, which should come out sometime in 2014.
I just finished writing Chapter Sixteen. I like the ending of this one. It's chilling. Maybe even a little sick.
Tomorrow, I'll start on Chapter Seventeen.
I know you dont like hypotheticals, and if I asked who would win if Lobo, Despero, & Mongul were put into a three-way cage match I would get a response about a fight between Hulk & the Thing. Now, I never read Marvel, but that response seems spot on & thought through...it makes me wonder why you dont answer the actual questions with that kind of simple but logical reasoning, that doesnt give a definative conclusion, but still offers a clear comparison of each's strengths/weaknesses in relation to one another.
I understand that any fight is situational, and if Despro was wearing a patch on his third eye, or Lobo was caught unarmed (as if), or Mongul had the flu, any one of those thigs would offer vastly different outcomes...but none of those things were part of the question, so there is really no reason to consider them in the answer. For example, your Hulk/Thing response itself would be rendered illogical by any number of "what ifs"...like, "what if the Thing was being mind controlled" would negate him keeping any kind of wits about him...but that was obviously not part of the imagionary question, so the point is moot.
And I know your not going to tell a story on this forum...but the Hulk/Thing example answers such a question (if it were ever actually asked) without telling a story.
So my question is...did you come up with the auto response of the Hulk/Thing, or did you get it from somewhere else?
You write that you know I don't like hypotheticals, and yet then you try to make an argument for why that shouldn't matter to me.
I'VE SAID IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. These "Who would win?" questions flat-out do not interest me. And if it doesn't interest me, why would I bother answering? Simply because someone asked? Entitled, much?
As for where the Hulk/Thing thing came from, it's simply the classic version of the question going back fifty years or so. It's evolved here at Ask Greg as a stock response, like "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT." or "ASKED AND ANSWERED".
1a. When you are working on a series and have to deal with a story bible or design document, is it inclusive of scripts and detail or just an over view.
1b. If they get to large is it common to separate them into their own documents? ex. A document for characters biographies and another for plots/timelines.
2. When changes are made to either a script or story bible do you use strike-through until it is finalized or simply delete the content?
3. When I am working on story boards or scripts I try to make characters actions be causality based and driven by their personality, moral alignment and available options. Is this similar to how you create your story lines?
4. How can I make characters engaging and direct through dialogue in scenes that are relaxed?
5. What is your going rate for projects and would you be interested in working with Mark Crilley or Luaren Faust?
1a. Most series bibles are written in advance of scripts. Mine TEND to be very thorough, including plans for stories, etc. But, no, by definition, it does not include all the details included in all the scripts. I try to update/revise the bible as we proceed. But by that time no one's looking at the darn thing anymore, so keeping the bible on track is a luxury and a low priority and almost always falls by the waysid. I'm not sure what you mean by a "design document".
1b. For a television series that doesn't seem like something that would ever happen. Years ago, I did do the bible for the entire Platinum Comics Universe, and that was so long that I did split it into multiple sections.
2. See above. But I tend not to use strikethrough very often. I tend to just revise.
3. Yeah, pretty much.
4. Get in their heads. Be clear what they want. Be clear on the difference between what they want and what they know they want. HEAR THEIR VOICES.
5. I'm not going to tell you what I get paid. Sorry.
5a. I'm always interested in collaborating with talented folks, but I'm not going to get specific about any individual.
1. Are you using Mongul the 1st or his son for the show?
2. Does the no green lantern on a Reach planet also include Alan Scott?
1. The first one. I won't even confirm whether or not there is a son.
2. Potentially. Kinda moot now.
Did Zatanna when she first met Robin in the episode Humanitylike him at first sight? Or did her likeness develope over a certain period of time?
I noticed how awkward she looked when he rambled asking her if she was joining the team, but never really expressed any discomfort when he flirted with her throughout the rest of the season.
Thank you for your time. :)
I'm gonna say both.
Hi Greg...Me again...
I just wanted to say that thus far "War" has made it to be one of my favorite episodes. I really felt you went all out for this episode. So many characters, so much battle sequence, a deepening plot with the Light and the Reach, a lot of fun with Karen and Mal (Why did you go for guardian instead of the Herald?), really interesting sequence with Blue Beetle, amazing emotional outpouring from Arsenal, and of course Keith David! (How cool was it getting back again? Did you guys talk a lot about Goliath and Gargoyles?) I still rack my brains trying to figure out how you will solve this...All I can hope is that with so many heroes down, Wally will be making a big comeback (well at least that's my biggest hope for the rest of the season).
I really wanted to know, was part of War World inspired by the Death Star/Star Wars?
Anyway magnificent job. I'd keep writing praise, but I'd run out of room. This was terrific!
Guardian fit our continuity best. And, frankly, I think he's a stronger, more iconic hero. Herald never really did that much for me.
Keith and I are friends, and our families see each other socially every once in a while. So I don't need a recording as an excuse to talk old times. But it's always great to see him, and it's always great to have his amazing talents on any show I produce.
As for the inspiration for The Warworld, you'd have to ask its creators, i.e. Len Wein and Jim Starlin. They also created Mongul in the same two-parter (DC Comics Presents #27-28). We got Warworld from those comics, and if you take a look at those issues, you'll see we used Warworld in very much the same manner as it was originally presented.
Is it true YJ is getting cancelled when S2 ends? I really wouldn't want it to whether this is true or not. This series is unbelievably amazing, I was never really that into superheroes until I watched it for the first time. I'm 14 and I watch this show religiously (haven't even missed the ruruns!). I started drawing and making my own superheroes because of this show, which was my first influence. I now dream of working in animation and I already made a story about an archer superhero. I was very influenced by this show in plot structure (if that's what it's called), diversity, and art style (mine looks like a comination of YJ and classic Disney movies xD). The point is, I REALLY don't want to see this show, that's so amazing,go so early. :C (P.S. Sorry for my poor wording, I don't speak English too well.)
Thanks for the kind words. Good luck pursuing your goals. I hope this is just the start for you!
We know that Impulse is B-23, and Arsenal seems to have been the next one to join the Team (going by "True Colors"), so is Guardian (Mal Duncan) B-25?
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Though I don't know WHY you would have thought Arsenal joined before Guardian, when you saw Guardian with the Team BEFORE Arsenal.
Hola Mr. Weisman,
While I love that the first time I've seen El Paso or a Texan superhero in fiction is on your show, I was wondering if Jaime is the only character in Earth-16 from the Lone Star State.
Thanks for your valuable time
Obviously not, since you've already seen Tye Longshadow, Shelly Longshadow, Holling Longshadow and Maurice Bodaway.
