Hey Greg,
I've got another question that has been eating me up.

What ever happened to the Gnomes. After the episode "Agendas" we never saw them again. Did things ever work out? Or are they still enslaved by Cadmas.

Greg responds...

Nearly all the genomorphs are still in Cadmus. How "enslaved" they are is debatable, I suppose.

Well, here it goes.

"Young Jusice: Invasion" is ending in a few days--way to state the obvious--and to be honest, I'm sorry to see it leave. I've looked forward to watching this show every Saturday--and then, later, Sunday--and it's become part of my weekend. I honestly never thought that I would get this attached to a show, but it appears that I was wrong.

Your show is, well, amazing. I used to watch "Gargoyles" when I was younger, and it was just...well, great. And then, when I heard that you were working on a new project, I was psyched. And I wasn't disappointed--"Young Justice" is probably one of the best DC cartoon shows that I've ever seen, and I've seen a ton.

You managed to put your own portrayal on characters that we had already seen, already knew, while making them recognizable and enjoyable. It's one thing to write characters that are of your own creation, but it's another thing entirely to write characters that are of another person's design.

Your--and Brandon's--work is just...amazing. Really. I've had yet to see an episode that I haven't liked, and I'm sure that the finale won't disappoint, either. Again, I'm sorry to see the show go, but I'm going to remain optimistic and hope that it'll come back, one day. (I'm looking forward to the finale, but--at the same time--I'm not looking forward to it. Does that make sense?)

...Sorry for the rambling message, though I'm not sorry to tell you how much I love your show.

Again, fantastic job.

Greg responds...

Thank you. Really.

you said i one of your previous answers ''who said any thing about being cancelled'' can you elaberate? also
1) do you have any plans to sell the show to another channel so it may continue?
1a)if not then why not?
2)currently the rateing for the show averaged at 1.9 million+ what numbers did you need for season 3 to get a green light?
3)is the online petitions (one numbering over 31000+ votes)and tweet trends akeing a difference in picking up the show for season 3 by cn or any other channel or helping in any way for the show continueing?
4)if season 3 isnt an option will we at least exspect a dvd film like TEEN TITANS TROUBLE IN TOKYO to round out the shows ending

thank you for your time, youve made great shows now and in the past and look forward to your next

Greg responds...

1. That's not up to me, but it seems unlikely, as that would mean that they'd be selling to a competitor.

1a. Keep in mind that Young Justice is the product of three divisions (DC, CN, WB) of one company: Time-Warner.

2. I don't know that it was that simple, ever. The biggest problem we had was not our ratings, which were inconsistent and influenced by a number of factors, but the lack of the success of the toy line, which paid for the series.

3. Doesn't hurt. But the best way to vote is with your wallet. A good showing on Young Justice Legacy would definitely help.

4. I don't think you can 'expect' it. Brandon and I would love to do it, but there seems to be no interest at this time.

This isn't a question, but I felt I had to write about this. I just saw your post about the site 'kickstarters' and I just want to assure you that I, at least, would DEFINATELY throw money at any of the three shows you mentioned (Gargoyles, Spectacular and Young Justice). Initiatives like that, where audience and creator 'cuts out the middleman' have always been my vision for the future of entertainment. Your shows in particular would have top priority for me.

Greg responds...

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I think Veronica Mars is proving the exception to the rule. Studios don't seem too anxious to go this route with properties they own and control.

1) Did you have any unused story arcs for the tie-in comic that involved the Justice Society of America or the All-Star Squadron?

2) On May 5th, 2012, you revealed there was at least 7 major characters that the staff wanted to add to Season 2 but there just wasn't any room for them and they were saved for the comic book and/or a potential Season 3. Did any of these 7 appear between Issue #16 Common Denominators and Issue #25 Players Part 6?

3) If the answer to 2) is yes, who were they?

4) On July 18, 2012, you hinted a Wildstorm character was included in a 'stealth way.' Was this in Young Justice season one or in season two?

5) Young Justice had 179 name characters in season one and 145 in season two. Could you please post this list of name characters in a series of Ask Greg rambles (for example 1-50 in one post, 51-100 in a second post and so on)?

Greg responds...

1. I have unused stories for just about everything.

2. Can you link me to that 'reveal'? Was I saying seven total or seven in addition to what you saw? Do you have candidates from those issues of the comic or are you just trying to get answers without having to read them? Three of the characters we had wanted to include but could not - and which I've already revealed - were Troia, Lieutenant Marvel and Sergeant Marvel.

3. I don't think the answer is yes. But my memory isn't what it used to be.

4. One.

5. Maybe, if the mood strikes. It doesn't at this moment.

If you had to choose, in your opinion, who do you think is the most iconic character of the original Young Justice team in season 1?

Greg responds...

Um, well...

I guess it would be either Robin or Superboy. Artemis was pretty obscure. Miss Martian almost as. Aquaman was a new iteration. As for Kid Flash, well... he's just not quite as prominent as the other two.

Hey Greg, congratulations on an excellent two seasons. Hopefully there's more to come. Here are a few questions I've been pondering:

1) Can Black Manta breathe underwater without his armor and helmet? Is he Atlantean?
2) During season one it seemed Artemis relied heavily on her bow even though she was good hand to hand; in season two it seems she is extremely adept hand to hand. Does most of her skills as Tigress come from training with her father? Or training with Black Canary? Or both? Maybe she was training during her time retired? I guess what I'm really asking is if she always this skilled at fighting even in season one and we just didn't really see it?
3) Will we ever find out what happened to poor disgraced Ocean Master/Aquaman's child/Tula? Is there a connection?

Thanks for the time!

Greg responds...

1. No.

1a. No.

2. Her father's training acts as her base, but back in the day when he was training her, her size made his hand-to-hand training less effective. Canary's training enhanced Crusher's and leaned more toward what she could do in hand-to-hand DESPITE her size. I think she was a skilled fighter when we met her. I think in Season Two, she's MORE skilled.

3. Ever? I hope so.

3a. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

4. What are the different functions of Robin's circular Birdarangs and the ones that are similar in appearance to Batarangs?
5. Do Black Manta's missile launchers have different functions when they are on different shoulders?

Greg responds...

1. It's blue-black in color - with a yellow rimlight - so it depends on the ambient lighting of the scene.

2. The latter.

3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

4. They have much in common, actually. But obviously batarangs are larger and have more mass, so are capable of a greater impact. In addition, some birdarangs have explosive and other capabilities.

It wasn't about "could". We didn't want to. Sometimes we had to though. For example, no one we could find quite fit the Terror Twins slot. So we created them.

Were you at any point seriously considering killing off Red Arrow in "Auld Acquaintance"?

The reason I ask is because the source of the title, in the phrase 'Should auld acquaintance be forgot' from 'Auld Lang Syne', carries that sense of "We'll never forget [the person in question]", and I don't have much trouble envisaging an ending to season 1 where Red Arrow atones for his 'betrayal' by dying in battle with the Light, leading the Team to promise that they won't forget him.

Hi Greg,

I am loving the run to the finale.

My question pertains to Red Volcano's habit of calling people "meatbags". Did you or the writers come up with that independently, or is it more of a reference to other media such as Bender in Futurama or HK-47 in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?

I associate the term with HK-47 because he's a red-armoured droid assassin, but Bender is probably more widely-known (even though he doesn't use the term that often). So I'm just curious if it was a parallel invention, or a reference!

Greg responds...

Well, not the latter, since I was - at the time - completely unfamiliar with that. Bender probably was an unconscious influence though.

I realize the Light is in this for the long haul, and they seem to be patient enough to wait for many of their plans to come to fruition, but it's been six years, and they appear to have abandoned the idea of "recovering" Conner.

If it's okay to ask, what was their original plan for Project Kr? From hearing the Light talk amongst themselves, it doesn't sound like they ever intended for him to join the good guys, even if that's something they felt they could take advantage of. Conner's stated purpose of "destroy and replace Superman" wouldn't quite work, being that he can't age, nor does he have Superman's signature powerset. Besides, they seem to want the League alive (and they were developing Starro-Tech, so they would have been able to control Clark anyway).

If they didn't know about Conner's unique traits (forever young/no flight), what would they have done with him once they found out?

Would it be safe to assume that Project Kr wasn't THAT integral to their plans, given that things seem to be running smoothly for them?

Greg responds...

You seem to be under the assumption that their plan for Project Kr has changed. It hasn't, not fundamentally. Only the details have changed. Adapt or die, and all that.

Also, I don't think the no-visible-aging thing was part of their plan. That was an accidental side effect of a combination of their growth acceleration process and his Kryptonian DNA.

And, as stated many times before, I'm not interested in hypotheticals.

Finally, no single thread unravels ALL their plans.

In fact, I love her so much that in [the] Instagram [app] I RP as her in a DCRP group. Okay here are my 3 questions:
1.) If you were to pick a word to describe Tula's personality- what word would it be. (Ex. bubbly, smart, wise, ect.)
2.) After Tula joined the Team, did she have any best friends, (besides Kaldur and Garth). Perhaps she and Artemis were close? [In my head, they are, but- being a hopeless rabid fangirl my mind is not (if ever) close to canon… So, would you consider them close? If so, how close? (Sisters, BFFs?)
3.) Will the details of Tula's death be revealed; if the series ends before the details are- will you tell us anyway because we (the YJ fandom) are just that obsessed? Or will you not specify and make us wait…. (Why??? *starts to sink with her fangirl feels*)
THANK U!!! (P.S- I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOUNG JUSTICE!!!)

Hey, Greg. Just saw an answer to a question I asked.

"Why was there a men's room in Project Cadmus? We only saw Desmond, Guardian, and Spence working at Cadmus. Unless the genomorphs gotta go too."

To which you responded: "There were also guards. But that's beside the point. Why wouldn't there be a Men's Room? And a Woman's Room? I mean, you, yourself listed two men above. I seriously don't understand this question. Who builds a facility without facilities?"

I suppose what I meant to ask was why the bathroom was so LARGE. There were probably ten stalls, but we only saw the two guys (Guardian and Desmond.) The guards answers this... But where were said guards? We ONLY saw Guardian and Desmond. Guardian used genomorphs as a security force. So... Where were the guards?

Greg responds...

They're in a scene that was cut for time from the DC Nation version of the series. But that's all immaterial. You build restrooms that match the size of the facility (which was huge). Whether or not the company than populates its building with enough people to use the restrooms to the fullest extent of their potential has nothing to do with what the architect and city regulations dictate.

Heck, even if you're Cadmus, wouldn't you want options?

Besides, what makes you think the genomorphs weren't using the restrooms.

(Are we really still talking about this? Seriously?)

Both Brandon Vietti and myself will be there. And we're also rallying as many members of the cast and crew to come as we can find in San Diego.
Hoping for a big YJ fan turnout - especially those cos-playing as YJ characters!!
Think of it as ASK GREG LIVE plus ASK BRANDON and ASK ARTEMIS (Stephanie Lemelin) and many, many more...

Greg Xanatos writes...

Dear Greg,

Through your career, you've shown a fondness for various "Master Planner" type villains (Xanatos, The Light, Nerrisaa etc.) You've also become notable for thinking out things to great detail (as your timelines and posts on askgreg have shown). So I wanted to know, has your own "master planning" informed these characters? For example, does Xanatos plan his schemes out with cards like you do? Do the Light's group planning sessions reflect an evil version of the Writer's room?

Thanks!

Greg responds...

God, I hope not. I like to think they're all much slicker than I am.

Was the look of Aqualad from Young Justice in any way inspired by the Atlanteans from Disney's Atlantis? For example, the light hair and eyes, brown skin and light blue tattoos. Or was this just an example of "great minds"?

By the way, really looking forward to your new book!

Greg responds...

Probably the latter. But you'd have to ask Phil Bourassa.

In one of your earlier answers, you said that when he discovered her on his ship, Martian Manhunter contacted Miss Martian's parents for permission to allow her to stay on Earth. Wouldn't that mean that Martian Manhunter knew that she was a white Martian (and not his niece), or were Miss Martian's parents disguised as Green martians as well?

First, a compliment - issue #25 was undoubtedly Young Justice's best. Queen Bee is now officially my favourite YJ villain, the Dick/Barbara scenes were wonderful, and I wish we could see what Kylstar and his new friends are gonna get up to.

Now for my question: you revealed that there was a Captain Marvel story planned for the comic before the shift to YJ: Invasion. In "Misplaced", Cat Grant reports that Captain Marvel recently defeated Ibac and Sabbac. Was this a reference to the planned comic story, or a separate event?

Greg responds...

Separate.

GARGOYLES NEWS - DVDS and CONvergence/Gathering

Well, I've been out of the country and OUT OF THE LOOP, but we have some REALLY BIG news on the GARGOYLES front.

Season Two, Volume Two of Gargoyles has been released on DVD as a Disney Movie Club exclusive. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm planning on getting at least a couple copies, as I'm told by reliable fan sources who have already received their disks that these are the uncut and correct versions of the last twenty-six episodes of Season Two, including such fan favorites as "M.I.A.", Future Tense" and all three parts of "Hunter's Moon".

Wish I knew more. I've e-mailed a Disney contact for more info but haven't received a response yet. But you can probably find all the information you need by asking the fans in the comment room:

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/comment/index.php

Anyway, as always, I'm not asking you to spend money you don't have. But if you can afford it, please help us prove to Disney that Gargoyles is a viable property with a strong fanbase. You can do that in two important ways. (1) Buy the DVDs, of course. And (2) SPREAD THE WORD! Use Tumbler, Twitter, Pony Express, whatever. Just help us let people know that these DVDs exist and are out there for sale.

AND MORE BIG NEWS...

I was waiting until CONvergence was over on Sunday to announce this, but it seems they've already made the announcement here:

https://twitter.com/GargoylesNews/status/353393780675715074/photo/1

Next summer, one of my favorite conventions, CONVERGENCE in Minneapolis, will be dedicating their annual convention to the theme of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". And a major part of that theme will be the celebration of the TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF GARGOYLES!!! I'm going to be a guest of the convention, and we've already begun discussions to create a Gargoyles convention within the convention. That's right, folks, the GATHERING OF THE GARGOYLES is back!! There will be a RADIO PLAY! There will be a BLUE MUG!! There will be the ROCKY HORROR GARGOYLES SHOW-ING OF THE TRADITIONAL VIDEOS!! There will be ASK GREG LIVE!! And there will be other Gargoyles related guests to be announced!!!

If you came to any one of the thirteen Gatherings that we held between 1997 and 2009, you know how much fun this can be. You'll want to be there again! If you missed the Gatherings and always wished you had had the opportunity, now is your chance! If you've never heard of the Gathering, but like Gargoyles (or any of the other shows I've done or am doing - including W.I.T.C.H., Spectacular Spider-Man, Young Justice, Rain of the Ghosts and/or Star Wars Rebels, etc.) then this is an opportunity to talk with me and other like-minded fans about them. (We'll probably have panels on them all!)

And if you're interested in just attending a great comic book and science fiction and fantasy and genre convention, then Gargoyles aside, you just can't beat CONvergence:

http://convergence-con.org/

The camaraderie of the Gatherings was truly something wonderful, and the closest I've ever come to that outside the Gatherings is CONvergence. I honestly can't think of a better con to merge with, even if it's just for one year. (For starters, the ENTIRE hotel is rented to the convention, and the parties go on all night. No more being told by management that we have to stop talking and/or move to some other location. We can and will continue until we drop!)

Now, let's think. Let's strategize. CONvergence is going on NOW. As I type this. And it will last through the end of this July 4th weekend. Next year's convention is exactly one year away. That's plenty of time to plan, to save up money, make travel and hotel arrangements etc. But mostly, what we've got to do in that year is SPREAD THE WORD!!! I want to see a HUGE GARGOYLE FAN TURNOUT at CONvergence 2014. Let's stun CONvergence, the world and DISNEY by showing them how immensely popular Gargoyles still is. And for sure, I don't want any Gargoyles fan saying, "Gee, I didn't hear about it."

So help me, please. I'm sure there are a lot of old fans out there that long ago stopped reading ASK GREG. Contact them. Contact EVERY Gargoyles fan you know, young and/or old. (Don't assume they must already know.) I want to see all my old friends. And a lot of new ones. So, please. Help me. SPREAD. THE. WORD!!!!!!

GREG'S DENVER COMIC CON 2013 SCHEDULE...

GREG'S DENVER COMIC CON 2013 SCHEDULE...
Hey, gang! As many of you know, I'm leaving tomorrow morning for Denver Comic Con. At last year's inaugural convention in Denver, I had a ton of fun with Khary "Aqualad" Payton and Greg Guler. They're both coming back this year, but other guests include Young Justice comic book artist Christopher Jones, Phil "Reach Ambassador" LaMarr, Dee Bradley "Desaad" Baker and Kelly "Cheshire" Hu. And, really, that's just the tip of the ol' iceberg. Check out the website here:

http://www.denvercomiccon.com/

Anyway, here's my schedule for the weekend:

FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2013
ASK GREG LIVE 05:00pm - 05:50pm
Room 105, m/p
We had fun doing this more casually at WonderCon, so here we'll make it official

SIGNING 06:00pm - 06:50pm
Floor Table
I was planning to bring stuff to sell and sign, but I've just been so swamped that I didn't get my act together. But I'll sign (FOR FREE) anything you bring over to my table and wave under my nose (politely). Don't know exactly which table is mine yet, but I'll announce it at ASK GREG LIVE and TWEET it.

CARTOON VOICES 07:00pm - 07:50pm
Main Events, m/p
Me wrangling a bunch of talented voice actors!

FOUR COLOR MIXER 09:00pm - 11:30pm

SATURDAY, JUNE 01, 2013
WEB COMICS 11:30am - 12:20pm
Room 104-106, m
I'm just moderating this one, but it should be fun.

STAR WARS ILLUSTRATION 01:00pm - 01:50pm
Room 504, m
The funny thing is, I was asked to moderate this LONG BEFORE I had my current #StarWarsRebels gig.

YOUNG JUSTICE 03:00pm - 03:50pm
Room 108-110, m/p
At minimum, you'll have me and Chris and Khary. But I'll try and pull a few more folks in too.

Moderating this panel, which includes Greg Guler and Kelly Hu.

THE FUTURE OF STAR WARS 05:00pm - 05:50pm
Hard Rock Café Room (506-507), p
Okay, now, this one I wasn't invited to participate on until AFTER I got my current #StarWarsRebels gig.

WRITING COMICS 06:30pm - 07:20pm
Room 104-106, p
A real all-star group of comics writing professionals. I'm probably the guy on the panel with the LEAST experience.

YJ MEET UP 07:30pm
Room 104
Chris Jones, myself and maybe a few other YJ types will be meeting up with YJ fans and cosplayers just to HANG OUT and SHOOT the $#!+. Chris and I did something similar at the Doctor Who Conventions, and it was a lot of fun.

SUNDAY, JUNE 02, 2013
CARTOON VOICES 10:00am - 10:50am
Room 108-110, m/p
Me wrangling a different group of talented voice actors!

DIVERSITY IN COMICS AND ANIMATION 12:00pm - 12:50pm
Room 504, m
This is a topic near and dear to my heart. Technically, I'm only moderating. But I plan on participating too!

ANIMATION ART 03:00pm - 03:50pm
Hard Rock Café Room (506-507), m
Moderating this panel of talented artists too!

COMICS FOR EVERYONE 04:00pm - 04:50pm
Room 103, m
And I'm moderating this last panel, as well.

NOTES: m = moderator, p = panelist. And I'll probably do more than just the one signing Friday. I'll tweet about that whenever I'm at my table.

So, if you're anywhere near Denver, please stop by! Say hello. If we've met before, I apologize in advance if I don't remember everyone's name. But reintroduce yourself. Eventually, I do catch on! And I want to meet you and say hello!

Earth-16 Timeline FYI

So I JUST NOW finished updating the EARTH-16 Timeline. It is exactly 250 pages long.

I hadn't had time to update it much during the production of Season Two - or rather, I was pretty inconsistent about updating it. So since we finished, back in October, I tackled a little bit at a time. And I finally finished. It's the final version of the Earth-16 timeline, until or unless we ever get to make more stuff set in that universe.

It includes (as far as I can tell) everything from both television seasons, everything from the 20+ issues of the comic and everything from YJ Legacy. There's a bit of extra backstory in there too, (particularly Golden Age stuff) that I mostly figured out way back before Season One. And I tossed in some of the characters from the five year gap that were basically defined by what we DIDN'T do with them. But mostly I intentionally left out characters we didn't cover yet. We can always add guys like the Question or Gleek later, assuming we ever get a later. But Brandon and I will figure out where they fit on the timeline if and when.

And, no, before anyone asks, I will NOT be posting it. Even Warner Bros, Cartoon Network and DC don't have it. It's just for Brandon and I. But I can refer to it to answer specific questions, as long as I don't deem those questions to be spoilers.

Jason Todd Fan writes...

1. How is it possible that Jason Todd be Robin in the five year timeskip with Tim already as Robin in season 2? Its impossible, Dick is 13 in season 1, the minimum age for him to become Nightwing is 17 meaning he just became Nightwing in yj legacy which means jason should be robin in legacy instead of tim as jason becomes robin after dick becomes Nihtwing but it isnt and means jason cant fit in those 5 years of dicks age and tims fast becoming robin. Can you please explain this mess?

2. I heard you had dick grayson be robin in season 1 because you said it be unjust not to have him as robin... and yet its completely unjustified not to have jason todd as robin, you did the thing that you werent goin to do to dick and applied it to jason. Why? Why not have jason as robin in invasion instead of tim?

Greg responds...

1. I love how YOU define for me what the minimum age is. I love how you STATE unequivocally that it's impossible. Anyway, it's not a mess at all. It's all been very carefully worked out on paper. It tracks. Just because I haven't chosen to explain it doesn't mean it's a mess or impossible. And I'm still choosing not to explain it, because (a) I didn't love your tone and (b) it's a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

2. You're choosing to interpret my words the way it suits you. What I said, is that neither Jason nor Tim's origins make any sense without Dick there first. We were starting with the first sidekicks, so we needed to start with Dick. ON TOP OF THAT, Brandon and I also felt a strong affinity to Dick as the original teen sidekick, and felt he should have a place on the Team. But Invasion was taking place five years after the end of Season One. We had to honor and be faithful to that timeline. So we miss Jason and skip right to Tim. But we honor Jason in dialogue and visually. He's still a significant presence. Heck, Brandon directed Red Hood. You know he matters to us.

1. Absolutely not. Only Brandon and I get to see that timeline.

2. Mostly, no. If it's a spoiler, it's a spoiler. And I've already stated my reasons why I'm not going to spoil. Check the archive.

3. As for Jason Todd, I will say that at the end of Season One, he was eleven.

Hi, my questions are related to the the comic book because is not quite clear what´s going on with Dick Grayson´s sort of "love" life.
It is somehow clear that he is looking for a relationship with B.Gordon so then, 1) why the whole Bette and Zee situation? (issue 20) I´m pretty sure you have your reasons but I really will love to know why, only if it´s possible, of course.
And finally since I became a fan of Dick/Zee as a couple I have to ask 2) around what time did the two broke up and under what circumstances they did and how they feel about it now? And again all this is because the kiss in issue 20 makes things quite confusing.
By the way, sorry if my question has already been asked, but if it is I will happily search for it in the Archive.
After reading the final issue my dream of seeing Dick and Zee together....died mostly because I´m not too fond of Dick/Babs since they are canon in most comic books and animated movies, but in general it is an AWESOME show full of suspense and Lex Luthor. I really enjoy it and thanks for it. Hope we get to see more of it in the future.

Greg responds...

I'm not sure what to add beyond what Barbara and Dick discussed at the end of issue #25.

Dick's in love with Barbara, but she doesn't believe he's ready to settle down, and she's probably right. So he had a one-night stand with Bette that might develop into something more. And he's had a relationship with Zatanna that dates back at least to the end of Season One. (And, no, I'm not going to SPOIL the details of that relationship here.)

Long time reader, second time poster, ...

So you have commented in the past that at some point the characters take a life of their own and begin to write for themselves and dictate their actions (rather than you, as a writer trying to force it). Building off that premise ...

1) For Young Justice, is there any character that took a story in a direction other than the direction you were initially envisioning? (i.e. maybe you weren't expecting a story arc to go one way but one character's presence just shed a new perspective on the situation that took the arc in a new direction (or at least new side trek) than originally planned) If so, who/how/when?

2) was there any character (of the primary cast anyway) that took longer (even if just by an episode or two) to come in to his (or her) own in terms of taking a life of his own? if so, who?

as a general comment, i really am enjoying all the characters and their design, stories, and growth. so a thank you to you and your team for all the enjoyment i've gotten (and continue to get) out of YJ/YJ:I/YJ comics :)

incidentally, the same is true for Gargoyles and Spec. Spidey (i still watch dvds of those shows - as recently as this morning - and STILL get enjoyment out of them - the same is not true of many other shows)

Greg responds...

1. I'd say that was true of nearly all the major characters, but especially Aqualad, Artemis, Wally, Bart, Superboy and Miss Martian.

2. Not that I recall. Screentime helps, so some of the characters that didn't appear as much may not have grabbed a hold as firmly. But you also need to remember that we had way more stories for EVERY character than we had the opportunity to present in either the comic, t.v. series or video game. So they may be more alive to us than to you guys.

3. Thanks.

I was just watching Satisfation agian, and my curiosity was peaked. Is there anyway to learn how Crispin felt about playing not only Red Arrow, but Arsenal and Jim Harper as well. I know NOlan voices SUperman and Superman, but it's easy to do 2 characters I've watched Batman enough to see that with the Justice League two part episode A New World. Three Characters, one with a totally different personality from the other.

One other thing, there should be no coinsidence that Jim could be Red's twin, is it possible that Jim is actually a clone of ROy with the real jim harper's memories?

Greg responds...

You'd have to ask Crispin how it felt, but he's hardly the first voice actor to play three or more characters in an episode.

Jim (Guardian) and Roy (Red Arrow) are both clones of Roy (Arsenal). Jim does not have the memories of the original Jim Harper (i.e. the Golden Age Guardian, Roy's Great-Grandfather), but then again, Jim never thought he was the original Jim Harper. He THOUGHT he was that Jim Harper's grandson and namesake.

1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

2. Ever?

3. His own real first name inspired it. Plus he saw Creature from the Black Lagoon.

4. Fellow pupils, though they may have had a class or two in common.

Hi there! Greg I have a little request more than a question for you...and since you could easily answer me that you could but won't do it, I would like you to see it as a challenge;
Could you describe how would it be the last scene of the last episode of Hello, Megan? Please??? And thank you :)

Greg responds...

No, I'm sorry. But I don't know it off the top of my head. So I'd have to figure it out, and I don't figure out that kind of stuff lightly. So it would take time. And I don't have that time. And, as I've said here before, I'm not looking for Ask Greg posters to come up with CHALLENGES for me. It's incredibly presumptuous, for starters, and it puts me in the awkward position of having to write up something like THIS, which makes me look like a jerk for not rising to your challenge. Thanks.

Hey Greg, I was wondering, since Earth-16 is (apparently) still in the DC Multiverse, and Grant Morrison is doing Multiversity, which will include a full map and profile of all the Universes, have you or anyone on the YJ team been in talks with Grant about the details of Earth-16?

Greg responds...

Nope. I'd love to be included, but it hasn't come up.

Were Barbara and Dick each others' first kisses?

Greg responds...

For Barbara, yes.

For Dick, well, I guess it depends on how you're defining "first kiss". But Dick and Barbara's kiss in issue #25 of the comic takes place before Dick and Zatanna's kiss in episode 126 of the series. But Zatanna kissed Dick earlier then either of those two kisses in issue #20 of the comic. But it was basically just a peck, so I don't know if you'd count that.

No. I'm not even sure where you'd get that idea. Are you confusing Captain Adams with Wade Eiling?

I am kinda confused with this entire plan that Nightwing,Aqualad,Wally, and Artemis has to find out the light's new partner.
1.When did they find out the light had a new partner?
2.Who started the whole plan?
3.how did each person come to be in on the plan?
4. what is the difference with venom and cobra venom?

Greg responds...

You've got the whole thing backwards.

They started out to infiltrate and bring down the LIGHT. Finding the new partner was something that came up along the way.

1. Watch the episodes. Sorry, but I'm tired of reiterating stuff that was 100% clear on the series itself.

2. Aqualad and Nightwing.

3. Watch the episodes.

4. Watch the episodes.

Greg responds...

1. Is this a trick question?

2. The latter.

3. No. It takes training and focus and a certain natural inclination. The spells themselves are the icing on the cake.

1. That's stated in the show. Yes.

2. Yes. Again, if you watch the show, you'd KNOW that Kid Flash and Robin were best friends, and that Aqualad's best surface friend was Speedy/Red Arrow. And they all knew each other and got along.

Why didn't Martian Manhunter bring Megan when the team went to the hall of justice?
I assume she was who they were talking about when they told martian manhunter that is was good that they didn't bring her and he agreed

Greg responds...

I don't think he had quite decided what to do with her yet. He had more or less decided not to send her back to Mars, but he wasn't sure about the sidekick thing. Or if he wanted her revealed to the public.

in the comics Megan tells the team that she won a competition to be Martian Manhunter's sidekick but we later find out that that was false and really Martian Manhunter found that she had snuck into his ship.
1. How exactly did Megan convince Martian Manhunter that she was his niece?, 2.wouldn't he be suspicious of a girl in his ship?
3.is it true that he wasn't really certain that she really was his niece

Greg responds...

1. He's psychic. Lying isn't too effective.

2. Initially, but he understood what she had gone through on Mars as a White Martian. And he was sympathetic.

3. No. What's true was that he didn't really know her at all. He has a LOT of nieces and nephews, and considering he's spent DECADES away from Mars, he does not have a personal relationship with very many of them.

This might be cliche, but what was your favourite thing about working on Young Justice.

Surely as we're all telling you how much this show means to us and has had an effect on us, no one's been asking you about your experience on the show. Since obviously the writer goes through a different experience than the fans.

And thank you so much for creating this amazing show!

Greg responds...

You're welcome.

Um... there was a lot to love. I had a great partner, Brandon. I had great collaborators, including Phil and the other artists, Kevin and the other writers, Jamie and the ENTIRE cast (but particularly our regulars), Jho and everyone else in post, Lolita, Kris and Michael. David and so many other great people. They were all a dream to work with. The fan response was frustrating at times, but mostly and ultimately very gratifying. Voice recordings were always fun, but there's nothing like a sound mix when it all comes together. Plus, think of the characters I had the privilege to work on! And I'm proud as hell of the final product.

O I forgot about another question I had: What is Martian Manhunter's new human biological age equivalent in 2016? We know Miss Martian's was 16 in 2010 and 18 in 2016, but for Martian Manhunter we do not know. (I am one of the frequent editors on the YJ wiki).

Greg responds...

For all Martians, I take chronological age and divide by three and then I round up or down to the nearest whole number. I figure you can do the same.

So, about Complications (which was an AWESOME episode, by the way)...
1)How did Crusher and Jade manage to find the Manta-Flyer?
2)Sportsmaster calls Deathstroke by his first name: does this mean that they are old friends/old partners/old something?
3)Speaking of Deathstroke, can you confirm that his full name is Slade Wilson?
4)How old is Deathstroke?
5)(This isn't directly tied in with the episode, but hey, since I'm here) How many years ago Aquaman and Manta fought for the first time?

Greg responds...

1. Sportsmaster had contingencies in place before he risked any split with the Light.

2. "Friends" might be pushing it, but they've clearly worked together before. Just ask Ted Kord. (Ooh, sorry.)

3. Yes.

4. By the end of Season ONE, Deathstroke was 47.

5. I have not nailed down a specific year for that yet, but it was LONGER ago than the conception of Kaldur'ahm.

Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,

I just read your ramble posting about John Wells, which was quite interesting. You said he was the one who provided research on the DC universe for you and all the other people who worked on the Young Justice TV series and comic books.

Research-wise, is the source material that he uses only comes from pre-"Flashpoint" DC Comics continuity, or does he also uses source material from The New 52 as well?

Thanks for taking the time to read this posting.
CGYJ

Greg responds...

As I've stated AD NAUSEUM, we were all DONE before New 52 started. So his research came from before that. But that wasn't a policy decision or any kind of value judgement. New 52 simply didn't exist yet. It's a function of schedules. (HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I SAID THIS?)

I really gotta know, in Season 1, The Joker tried to kill every one present with Joker Venom when the Injustice League surrendered. While it would seem like he didn't care if he died as long as he killed everyone, Joker is immune to the deadly gas in the comics. Was he really trying to pull a genuine "Taking you with me"? Or is he immune in the YJ canon, and planned to make a getaway once the venom killed everyone?

Greg responds...

I like it ambiguous.

When one of the Green Lanterns uses the Zeta tubes and the system announces their arrival/departure, how does it name them? Does it just say, "Recognized, Green Lantern, [number]" for all of them, or does it call John and Guy by their real names since their identities are public anyway?

Greg responds...

It just gives their nom-de-guerre (i.e. Green Lantern) and designation.

Youve said before that Captian Atom has metal alloy skin, not a shell. So is he as anatomically correct as a Ken doll or something?
And shouldnt he be wearing some pants? If all the silver is his skin, it lloks like all he is wearing are boots, gloves, and a symbol on his chest, which leave NOTHING to the imagionation...exept what happened to his genitalia.
Can he even have any more kids if he wanted to?

Greg responds...

The metal covers his private parts and his toes by subconscious choice. The not-a-shell statement was in response to being asked if he was a Wildfire-style energy being beneath a metal shell. He's not. He's a fully organic human being beneath an alien metal coating.

When the world was split and the helmet was split, Nabu was also split. Why was Klarion not split? Does it have to do with the age of Teekl? If so what age is Teekl?

I thought I'd also try answer why there doesn't need to be an archery force as opposed to a speed force. Within the laws of physics archery can be performed at an expert level and the subject is not destroyed while performing such impressive feats. Running at speeds like speedsters are capable of are impossible to survive while doing. As such the speed force is not the thing that makes them run at that speed but the thing that allows them to survive running at that speed. At least that's my understanding of it though you have said we can imagine it which is satisfactory enough. I just thought you might like to understand the difference between the force being necessary and an archery force not being.

Greg responds...

1. It has more to do with the age that Klarion perceives himself as.

2. And how is Speed-Force different from Strength-Force? Or Heat-Vision-Force? Or Flight-Force? Or Shrink-Down-Force? Or Any-Actual-Super-Power-Force?

Look, you picked my most hyperbolic example, the one I was using to make a comedic point, and so didn't address my ACTUAL point. To some degree, you either buy into super-powers or you don't. At least, that's my opinion. The Speed-Force seems an unnecessary complication. Harder to get my head around than the original power its trying to explain. I mean, why should speed even HAVE a force?

Having said that, I'll simply repeat what I've stated before: if you love the Speed-Force and want to believe it exists on Earth-16, then may the speed-force be with you. All I've stated categorically is that no one on Earth-16 has ever heard of the Speed-Force. But the fact that no one's heard of it, doesn't in and of itself mean it doesn't exist. (See my recent answer regarding Meta-Genes.)

A very brief history of the "inhibitor collar", based on my research and recollections.

-1957 Oms en série {aka Fantastic Planet):
Tiny humans imprisoned on a planet of gigantic alien beings known as Draags. We follow one, of which, is treated as a toy by a Draag child, held captive by "inhibitor collars". Written by Stefan Wul.

-1968 Star Trek episode- Gamesters of Triskelion:
Kirk, Chekov, and Uhura trapped on alien planet and forced to participate in gladiatorial games. Imprisoned with "inhibitor collars" that shock them. Written by Margaret Armen.

-1991 Wedlock:
Rutger Hauer film about a diamond thief sent to an experimental prison using "inhibitor collars" that connect you to another inmate and will explode if proximity distances from one another are not close enough. Broderick Miller wrote this.

-1993 Fortress:
Christopher Lambert film about a couple escaping America to the Canada border in order to have a second child (hmmm how prophetic). Lambert's character is caught and imprisoned in a maximum security prison and implanted with a device called an intestinator. Similar but not quite the same.

-2000 Batoru Rowaiaru (aka Battle Royale)
A group of grade school students are sent to an island to compete against one another with "inhibitor collars" to ensure no one escapes.

There was also the latest appearance of Wolverine and the X-Men.

Not this is not a critical examination of your use of it or a declaration of plagarism on your part. I like your versions better, because there has clearly been some thought put into the workings of them. I like the updated version from YJ: Invasion, especially episode "The Fix". Thank you for your time.

Greg responds...

You're welcome.
