Hi Greg, just a couple quick questions (because I'm a language nerd):
1) Are there compiled 'dictionaries' of each of the conlangs used in Young Justice (Atlantean, Rannian, etc.)?
2)If so, are any of them available online?
(I ask this mostly as a fanfic writer who's a massive nerd and would like to have language references beyond what I've scraped together and expanded on.)
1. I have an abridged dictionary for New Genesian; it's a language I created for another science fiction project, which I coopted to use for YJ. I think Nicole Dubuc has a dictionary for Rannian. For Atlantean, I count on a consultant, Aris Katsaris. For Markovian, I use GoogleTranslate for Latvian. What am I forgetting?
2. I don't think so. Though I think that most of the translations are up on the YJ Wiki.
Elisa has dressed up as both Belle and Jasmine for Halloween. Does that mean their respective movies exist in the Gargoyles universe as we perceive them, and if so, does that mean they cannot be real in said universe?
Basically, yes.
Now, the legends those movies are based on is something else. All things are true. Few things are accurate.
What is the full name of Taro?
On which Japanese island is Ishimura?
1. Don't know.
2. Don't know.
I'd have to do some research to answer both questions.
In the season 3 of Young Justice trailer I noticed Static does not have a mask on. What happened to his secret identity? That's an important part of his character
He still has a secret identity. So does Superman. Not every hero feels the need to wear a mask.
Why did the Space-Spawns kidnap the eggs of the Liberty clan? For what reasons did they want the eggs?
No Spoilers.
1. What is your favorite episode so far from season three?
2. What episode from season three do you think fans will enjoy the most?
1. I feel really good about them all. I think the best episode is "Evolution". But my favorite is "Overwhelmed".
2. I hope you guys enjoyed them all. But I'm guessing that "Nightmare Monkeys" was a crowd-pleaser.
This is a very silly question, but when Cheshire told Red Arrow that if he wanted another date he only had to ask: Did they really dated before that?
No.
Oliver has tried to improve his relationship with Arsenal?
I think he has.
Good day, Sir.
This is more of a question regarding your policy than one regarding your shows. Your policy regarding not spoiling the details regarding future seasons/episodes of your shows is well documented. But I'm wondering whether or not you feel a freedom to discuss details that haven't yet been depicted on-screen but that have already transpired in-universe and that you likely won't revisit. For example, in between Young Justice Seasons 1-2, there was a substantial time gap in which plenty of untold (to viewers) story unfolded. Viewers got a hint regarding some of what happened, and some more was explicitly stated. But do you feel a freedom to--if asked--go into detail regarding events that occurred during that period but that will clearly never be depicted on-screen or even in the comics (especially considering that Young Justice season 3 looks like it'll occur after yet another time gap)? Do those details count as 'spoilers,' considering that they won't be relevant to future episodes and will likely never be depicted in future seasons?
As always, glad to see the Young Justice comeback and hoping for a season four too.
You're assuming those things will never be depicted. But, well... FLASHBACKS HAPPEN. So, yeah... SPOILERS.
Hello, hope you are doing well congratulations on Young Justice Outsiders and hopefully by the time you get this it will be renewed for a fourth season. My question has to due with the Gargoyles version of Arthur and cast. I was wondering what the ages of Gwenyvere Lancelot, Morgause, Morgana and Nimue were. I understand if you don't want to do the math for the exact dates for them but if Arthur was eighteen, what would the other's age range be compared to him? I tried to look it up myself but the myths so convoluted I could not make heads or tails of it.
It took a whole other year from when you posted this question for us to be picked up for a Season Four.
Anyway, the Gargoyles Universe Arthur Pendragon was born in 485. Every other character that you named amounts to a spoiler.
Hi Greg,
I'm an Arthurian lit fanatic and had a couple of questions. Dame Ragnal is implicitly Peredur's mother (her story is one of my all time favorites, BTW). In your world is Ragnal human? Her loathley appearance could be a curse, or she could be a child of Oberon or even a gargoyle based on her appearance in the old story.
In the story of Sir Gawain, his son is named Sir Gyngalyn. I'm curious why you gave him the name Peredur instead. Are these two names for the same character?
I am also curious what other Arthurian characters might exist (though that may be a spoiler). I'd be very interested to see what you'd do with Galahad, Lancelot, or Morgan LeFey.
In my reading, particularly in Roger Lancelyn Green, it's strongly implied that Ragnal is the mother of Percival.
Beyond that, all the rest of your questions are Spoiler requests. Sorry.
Hay greg big fan of your work I was wondering if you could explain to me why you used a mouthlay format for young justice and spectacular spider man.
I'm assuming "mouthlay" is a typo, but I can't quite figure out what it's replacing. The closest I can come up with is "monthly," but I don't understand what "monthly format" might mean. Sorry.
Hi, Greg! I'm so glad YJ is coming back for a Season 3 (Outsiders) I'm just wondering one thing, as of S2, are the Injustice League active (or still a thing) as no mention of them were in Season 2?
Not as a regular thing.
What is Black Beetle's real name?
Edith Lynne Portafiro.
Serioualy, though, what makes you think the Reach have names?
Are you a fan of digimon if so I have a question for you if a human falls in love with a digimon and the two get married do you think they will adopt a child
Never seen the show.
Why are Nightwings eyes so dark in Young Justice Outsiders? I literally thought they were black at first...doesnt fit continuity with his eyes being lighter when he was shown w/o a mask as robin in the first season. Just wondering bc I think thats what threw me off when I first saw him in the trailer for he looked a little wierd to me
I don't understand. Nightwing's eyes are solid white inside his mask.
Hey Mr. Weisman,
Just saw the trailer for Young Justice: Outsiders and I thought it was awesome. However, is it just my imagination, or does it appear like the artwork style for the new season seem to somewhat resemble the artwork style from the films of the DC Animated Movie Universe more closely in comparison to the previous two seasons of Young Justice...?
It might have. Character Designer and Outsider's Art Director Phil Bourassa worked on both.
Without naming names, are there any aromantic characters in Young Justice? I'm not sure if you're familiar with the spectrum, but I've heard that at least one character in your past show was confirmed asexual, so I thought this was probably okay to ask. I've always been cool with it as a romance-heavy show, but it'd be nice to think that one or two of the YJ characters might be exceptions and single because of orientation. Love your show regardless, and can't wait to see some of what you've cooked up in the trailer tomorrow!!
At first I thought you had written "aromatic" and I thought: RUDE!
But, no, "aromantic". The answer has to be No Spoilers, I'm afraid. Sorry.
We know Elisa is a detective, but what section? I know thereâs homicides, narcotics, cyber crime, cold cases, sexual cases, domestic and even organize crimes, etc. But in which department Elisa belongs?
Hm. I thought of her as a precinct detective, handling whatever cases happened within her precinct, like the detectives of Barney Miller and Hill Street Blues. I might need to someday do some research on how the NYPD operates (or operated in the mid-nineties). If every detective specializes then it seems she's in organized crime.
As another question , have you heard about the new Spider-Man PS4 video game coming out, what are your thoughts on it? Thank you very much for your time.
I don't know anything about it.
Hi! English is not my native language, sorry for the mistakes in advance.
My questions:
1 - How really Xanatos and Demona meet? In the "The Awakening" Xanatos says that he brought her before than the other gargoyles and she woke up there. That it's obviously a lie. At that point, one suposes Xanatos knows more about Demona than he is telling.
2 - Didn't Xanatos knows Demona is already immortal in "City of Stone"? The suposed spell she cast, should stole a minute of life of all citizens watching the TV. If Xanatos knows she is immortal I can't see why Xanatos could think Demona will help him to get more years of life.
Maybe the questions are stupid? I watched the show in my language around three times, and there was some translation mistakes. Can you belive the hints about Owen being Puck was deleted? All of them. I'll rewatch in english someday.
1. It was definitely a lie. But the truth is a spoiler.
2. He believed she was immortal because of the occasional reuse of that spell.
Not stupid questions at all. I'm sorry you had to work so hard to enjoy the show, but I'm glad you did and do.
Hey, Congratulations with Young Justice Season 3! I wanted to ask you a question and how that would have affected the Spectacular Spider-man world. There has been a lot of debate over what kind of scientist Peter Parker is in the comics. In the original Ditko run clearly studied Chemistry, Until ASM #22, when he says: âI wonder if I should specialize in Biochemistry or Physicsâ. After Ditko left the title, Romita came in and according to the Marvel Handbook, he studied Biophysics. After that, it became a mess, he became Biochemistry researcher, a Chemistry Teacher, Engineer for Horizon Labs, CEO of Parker Industries (with a PHD in Physics) and more recently, the Daily Bugleâs Science Editor. So my question is, what kind of Science he would have studied while in college in the show and what is your opinion about what kind of science major he is in the comics?
At the high school level, Peter was interested in everything science.
At the Conners' lab, he was studying bio-chemistry.
What he would have ultimately majored in, in college, is a spoiler.
A few things I've been wondering
1)Is Matt considered part of the Manhattan Clan or just a friend?
2)We know Broadway loves old detective movies but what film genres do you think the other members of the clan enjoy most?
3)Do any of the other Gargoyle clans enjoy aspects of human culture like music, books, comics, film or television?
1. An ally.
2. Brooklyn likes swashbucklers. Lex likes SciFi. Hudson likes Celebrity Hockey. Bronx likes anything that's muted.
3. Yes.
Hi Mr Weisman firstly thank you for doing all these q&as for your fans on this site. it shows you really care and I for one am very glad you do it.
Here are my questions
1a) without saying who or what. have you seen heard or read any fan speculation that have got the up coming Outsiders season right. 1b) if so could you give us a fraction. 1c) how to you feel when you see someone make an accurate depiction of a season/episode yet to come out?
2)why do ship designs from Star Trek keep showing up in the series and tie in comics (Cornered episode Face your fears comic tie in)
thank you for you time regards and utmost respect from
Darksuperboy
p.s I did search the 17 entries for tie in questions for this answer but I might of missed it in the 19,000 invasion entries so sorry if you've answered this already.
1a. Any? Yes.
1b. You want ME to give you a fraction of fan speculation? No. Sorry. Aside from the fact that this was from years ago, I don't see that as my role.
1c. Mostly, one shrugs. Sometimes one shake one's fist.
2. Are you talking about Space Trek 3016 ships?
Hey, I want to know, what is Tombstone origin story? Is he just albino, like in the comics, or is there something that happened to him, like in Spider-Man Animated Series?
It would be something that would be explored in the future?
No spoilers. Sorry.
I haven't posted in years, (too far behind in reading), but I just had to post my daughter's reaction to Future Tense.
My daughters, 9 and 6, and I have been watching Gargoyles from the beginning. Most evenings they greet me when get home from work with, "Do we have time for an episode?!?". They are not just hooked, they are obsessed. Miriam, my little one, is seriously considering being Elisa for Purim.
(I told her from the start I wasn't making a gargoyle costume. I learned my lesson from our watching of Avatar two years ago when I somehow found myself having agreed to make them water and air bending costumes because they are no longer cheaply available to buy. Hours and hours later they came out pretty dang good, especially considering I don't actually know how to sew. Their friend went as a earth bender...he wore a green t-shirt with the earth bending symbol silk screened on it - cheaply available on the internet :| .)
We watched Future Tense a few evenings ago. Miriam spent the whole episode tense and near tears asking, "they're going to use the Phoenix Gate, right? They have to use the Phoenix Gate right?" I had to sit with my arm around her. When we got to the end she smiled a big smile and told me it was a really good episode but too scary to watch again. She repeated her assessment a few days later to a friend, (the earth bender). The girls had him watch the first episode of Awakenings yesterday.
As for the big one, she assured me she wasn't scared the whole time.
Thank you for the shared experience with my girls!
I haven't posted in about a year, either.
I love to hear about fans watching the show with their kids. And I'm so gratified that the kids appreciate it and are becoming a new generation of Gargoyles fans. And Future Tense IS scary!!
why was young justice push back to 2019
Was it pushed back? I can't remember now.
I'm pretty sure Outsiders wasn't all done in 2018. But all the final decisions on when episodes dropped were made by DC Universe. WAY above my paygrade.
Did Topo ever get that "impure" brand removed?
Yes.
I read somewhere that you legally can't be exposed to ideas, or something like that. Does this mean you cannot read fanfictions, browse the Tumblr tag etc? How does it impact you and/or the creative process?
1. It does mean that. (See the ASK GREG Introduction, Paragraph 4, for an example.)
2. It doesn't.
What did Dr. Dorado mean when he said the meta-gene was opportunistic?
He was theorizing that it takes advantage of the "materials" at hand.
Hello Greg! (And Greg's moderator team!) I love Young Justice and I'm so happy for Season 3. My favourite character by far is Bart Allen aka Impulse aka Kid Flash II, and I'm absolutely elated that he's looking to be a major character in Season 3. That being said, there's not much to know about him, so I decided to ask you about him and the show in general.
1. I read in an earlier response that the Garricks enrolled him to school when he moved in with them. How much formal education had he received before he came to the past?
2. I actually loved the character so much that I read the Impulse comics from 1998 and I noticed that his Impulse costume is slightly different in the cartoon, this sorta arrowed line thing instead of a lightning bolt thing. His hair is also much shorter. Is there any reason behind the change?
3. With Wally's death, was his designation in the Zeta computer deleted or disabled in any way? Especially since his hero handle is now being used by Bart.
4. Speaking of Zeta designations, in season 1 Speedy/Red Arrow just ordered the computer to "update" his designation. Is it really that easy to change your designation, or was he just making a point and had to later update it officially?
5. Secret aka Greta Hayes was a main member of the comic version of Young Justice, but in the cartoon, she's just a one-episode wonder. Is there any reason behind the change?
I'm glad you're doing such wonderful work with Young Justice and I'm looking forward to season 3.
1. Formal? Not much. You know, with the Reach Apocalypse and all.
2. You'd have to ask character designer Phil Bourassa.
3. Designations don't transfer. They can go inactive and be retired.
4. It's that easy to update YOUR OWN designation. Identity is very personal.
5. She wasn't part of our larger plans.
6. Thanks!
1. How old was Dick when he became Nightwing.
2. How long did Jason Todd act as Robin.
1. No spoilers.
2. No spoilers.
Not a question. Just letting you know, my six year old daughter loves Gargoyles and was ranting that the bad guys were being mean to the Gargoyles. She'd make a great advocate for them. And she loves what you guys did with the comics. I had to change some of the words that my daughter does not need to learn yet. But that's okay. I hope someday you will be able to keep up the good work.
Thank you so much. That really makes my day!
You know, when we first focus tested GARGOYLES, the moderator asked the kids, "Did you like Goliath?" The kids all said yes. Then: "Did you like Demona?" The kids said no. The focus testing folks then advised us to take Demona out of the show. We had to explain to them that the kids didn't like Demona because she was THE VILLAIN! (Duh.)
have you ever consider a crossover for young justice
Yes. With Scooby Doo.
Why did T.O. Morrow want to destroy the Justice Society and the Justice League?
He didn't like the heroes thwarting his schemes.
Were the members of the Injustice League chosen because they look very similar to the Light's white silhouettes?
* Wotan has Ra's al Ghul's hairstyle.
* Ultra-Humanite's head looks like The Brain.
* Count Vertigo has a slender appearance like Lex Luthor.
* Black Adam is as bulky as Vandal Savage.
* Atomic Skull looks armored enough to pass off as Ocean Master.
* Joker is skinny and has an interesting hairstyle, much like Klarion.
* Poison Ivy and Queen Bee are both token females with long hair.
Nope. Wasn't a consideration for us.
Huge fan of your work. I've seen both Gargoyles and Young Justice, and I 'm working my way through the SW Rebels Blu-Rays I recently bought. Anyway, I'm aware your book Rain of the Ghosts is based on a pitch to Dreamworks that didn't end up going to series. Have you ever considered trying to pitch it to Netflix or Amazon and see if it can be realized as a series? Hopefully not too invasive of a question. Thank you in advance.
I've pitched it all over town. No one's bought it, I'm afraid.
Did Miss Martian ever try to fix the minds of the Kroloteans and other victims she brain-fried like with Aqualad? A lot of us didn't really think learning her lesson was enough.
Tried? Yes. But the Kroloteans refused to grant her access.
Is there a character in comics that is your personal favorite that you'd like to bring to life in an animated show given the chance?
You mean beyond the ones I've already done?
What are your thoughts on Jordan Peele wanting to do a live-action Gargoyles movie?
I love the idea. He and I exchanged a couple of VERY BRIEF messages about it. But to be clear, it isn't - to my knowledge - happening.
1. How does Martian shapeshifting influence health? What happens if a Martian is shot? Do they just shapeshift back any damaged body parts?
2. How far have Martians traveled throughout the galaxy?
3. Does Mars have nations or a united planetary government?
1. It can be useful, up to a point.
1a. With what?
1b. If the injury isn't too devastating.
2. As a society? Nowhere.
3. NO SPOILERS.
How physically strong are gargoyles exactly? We've seen them perform many impressive feats of strength over the course of the series that no human could ever match without some form of augmentation (bionic enhancements, genetic mutations, power armor, sorcery, etc), but if possible I'd like to know just how powerful they actually are, like, how much weight can the average gargoyle lift in comparison to a well above average gargoyle like Goliath or Demona? How many pounds? Or dare I say, tons? Like humans obviously not all gargoyles represent the pinnacle of their kind's athletic potential, hence why I listed Goliath & Demona as examples of peak physical performance, but even the weakest of gargoyles are seriously tough customers, as Lex has demonstrated more than once despite his size, or Hudson despite his age. So, yeah, I'd love to know how the strength levels of gargoyles ranging from below average, average, and above average, AKA strongest. Thanks for your time!
I'm not good with numbers - and am not in love with the idea of codifying that. Watch the show. See what they do. Do your own math, I guess.
Hey, Greg?
I'm an aspiring writer. But mainly just as a hobby. Yes I know, writers who write for fun will likely never become accomplished writers.
Bit of dark humor aside, um. I seem to be stuck in a creative rut.
For the past seven months I've made up ideas for superhero stories. Yet, every time, I get quite far into the creative process, and my mind just disconnects. I end up lacking motivation to write, I scrap the idea, and I start over.
I was wondering if you had any advice from writing Gargoyles, or really anything else, that might be able to help me out of this cycle I find myself in time and again.
Thanks,
~Jacob
My main advice is to write every day. EVERY. DAY. Think of it as a muscle that you have to exercise and build up over time. Some days you may only write a sentence and get stuck. But the next day you write another sentence. And the next day, you cross out the first sentence but write two more. Etc. You work the problem.
More advice is to break every notion down on index cards. Keep adding cards. Pull cards, but never destroy them. If you cross something out, only put a single line through them so you can still read what you wrote. (You never know when an old, formerly-rejected idea may prove useful.) Then once you have your cards feeling right, you write it up as a prose document.
Hi Greg,
Just began watch ing Y.J. in preparation for Season 3. So far, it's AWESOME! Though one thing puzzles me a bit. Now,personally, I didn't really have too much of a problem with it, but I was greatly curious; why WAS Superman so uncomfortable around Superboy when he first met him and for so long afterward.
My personal guess is that in addition to being disconcerted with fact that there was a clone of him in the world, he had had such bad experiences with Kryptonian clones in the past-*koff Bizarro koff*- he wasn't used to the idea that there was actually a clone of him that wasn't trying to hurt him or his family and friends. He didn't know how to act around Conner except with suspicion.
Still, there seemed to be something else. Was there something I missed?
Thanks and good luck with Y.J. Season 3,
Jacob
I think your assumption is incorrect, but I think you're both overthinking and underthinking the obvious. Superman's DNA was stolen without his permission and used to clone/create a living being. This is a violation. It's damn disturbing.
What does the color green mean in reach scarab ranking
I think that was a blue scout scarab that was turned green by the Ambassador for strategic reasons.
In "Future Tense" Puck depicted Demona & Brooklyn as mates, now obviously that's not happening considering Brook found Katana & started a family, but was there ever a point in time in which you were seriously considering the idea of a reformed Demona hooking up with Brooklyn in the future? OR, was Demona & Brooklyn's illusionary relationship meant to be a hint towards the eventual pairing up of Delilah and Malibu later on? Or was that all just coincidence and Puck's "shipping" of Demona & Brooklyn was never meant to be a clue as to their future or the futures of their clones? I only ask because I was always interested by Puck's ominous warning to Goliath regarding how his portrayal of the future, while not one hundred percent accurate, could still give hints as to the possible futures of the gargoyles as well as their friends and foes, i.e. like how although Lexington himself didn't turn evil as he did in Puck's illusion, his clone did indeed "join the darkside" by siding with Thailog. Thanks for your time!
1. Honestly? Never.
2. <heh heh heh> Wouldn't you like to know. (I mean, obviously, you would. You asked the question.)
3. I'll leave this to your imagination/interpretation.
My sincerest apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldnât find an answer on here or on the YJ wiki so I donât believe it has. I know Jâonn Jâonnz was transported to Earth in 1955, but what year did he officially debut as the Martian Manhunter?
2002.
How does the commitment ceremony worked? Is it a gargoyle tradition of mating or similar to a wedding? Has there been a humans and gargoyles that can have sex?
1. I hope to depict it someday, so I'm not going into detail here.
2. Closer to a wedding, I suppose.
3. No spoilers.
Is it possible for a Gargoyle to be on the Autism spectrum?
Yes.
1) Was the decision to have season 3 feature the Outsiders solely yours and Brandon's decision? Or, did your bosses give you a mandate?
2) Did management give you any kind of mandate about anything in season 3 or were and Brandon given carte blanche?
3) Are you allowed to talk about this? Or, would this be covered by a non-disclosure agreement?
1. Just us. No mandates.
2. Essentially carte blanche. No mandates.
3. There's nothing to hide.
Hey again, Greg...
A question I've often wondered but never really got around to asking. Given that Clan Leaders tend to have pretty broad and unilateral powers, does the Gargoyle Way allow any recourse for a Clan dealing with an abusive Leader?
Yes.
Hi Greg, I read somewhere you're a big X-Men fan. Now that I think about it, I do see some surface similarities between Brooklyn and Scott Summers. Would you say there was some inspiration there or no?
No. I don't see them as having much in common.
Cyclops is/was originally built in the Gary Cooper mode: solid, laconic tall, thin, heroic, unfancy.
Brooklyn is way more Errol Flynn.
Congrats on Young Justice being continued. Always great if fans fighting for the favorite shows succeed.
I really liked Rain of the Ghosts and Spirits of Ash and Foam. Will you write Masque of Bones now things are going well again? The book series is as good as Gargoyles was both in quality, imagination and depth of characters and story arc... books so brillant should be continued. PLEASE!
Thank you.
I still plan to get back to Masque of Bones and the Rain series someday, but unfortunately I just can't afford to do it now. I need to make a living, and with no one interested in publishing and paying me to write the book, I need to focus on other (paid) work instead. Sometimes real life is uncooperative.
There seems to beca real resurgence in the interest in "Gargoyles"... Funko POPs, talk of a live-action film, and of course next year marking the 25th anniversary. I'm seeing so many fans come out of the woodworks. Given that so much time has passed since the series began and ended, how do you feel seeing the fanbase alive and well and thriving?
I love it!
How did Queen Bee know her pheromones would affect Marie Logan? Can Queen Bee intuitively sense which people will be affected by female pheromones? Or, does she have to rely on trial and error to find out?
Really good questions. I honestly haven't thought about that. I'd lean toward trial and error, but that's something I'd want to discuss with Brandon and see what he prefers.
Did Miss Martian tell her uncle john that she meet Marie Logan the person who play Megan Morse on HELLO MEGAN and if so what did martian manhunter think about it ?
1. Yes, at some point.
2. I'll leave that to your imagination until or unless we do a story that shows it.
1. Did Roy knew that Artemis and Cheshire are sisters at the end of season 1? If the answer is no then when he find out?
2. Who told him? Was that Artemis or someoneelse?
1. Yes, basically. If not by the end of the episode, then shortly after.
2. I don't know.
How do you like the plays of Checkhov? In particular, did you enjoy the 1962 black and white version of The Cherry Orchard with Judi Dench as Anya and John Gielgud as Leonid?
1. I've seen some great productions and some nothing productions.
2. Haven't seen it.
Hi Greg. I just had a few questions regarding the Marvel Legacy one-shot from last year.
1. Did you get a chance to read it?
2. If so, what are your thoughts on what happened to Starbrand in it?
3. Were you asked for your input into it at all?
1. Nope. Don't even know about it.
2. Nope.
3. Nope.
I have some questions about Macbeth and his family:
1)Is Macbeth religious? I imagine he was a Catholic back in the eleventh century, but in the present day, is he lapsed or what?
2)How much does Mac know of what happened to his family after his "death"? I suppose he knows that Luach and Bodhe died in battle, but does he know that Grouch commited suicide?
3)If yes, did that color his suicidal behavior in the present day?
1. I'd have to do a bit of research about the church in the Eleventh Century. Macbeth did, if I'm recalling correctly, visit the Pope.
1a. Probably "what".
2. All of it.
2a. Yes.
3. That's for the audience to interpret.
Does Black Lightning's prominence in Outsiders have anything to do with you or your bosses wanting to create some synergy with WB's Black Lightning series? Or, was it part of your plan all along to make BL an important player in season 3? Is the fact that there is now a live action Black Lightning series just a coincidence?
1. Nope.
2. I don't know about "all along" - but definitely by the end of Season Two.
3. Yep.
Does the Light really believe it can play Darkseid the way they played the Reach? The very thought brings a smile to my face.
They have no intention of "playing" Darkseid, as I assume you know from watching Season Three.
Hi Mr. Weisman,
Saw the promotional poster for Young Justice: Outsiders, but I'm surprised the poster did not have the logo on it...
Don't know what poster you saw, but it does seem odd that there was no logo on it.
Hey, Greg I'm really excited about Young Justice: Outsiders. I loved the first two seasons and I'm a big fan of Hawkwoman. I would love for her to get more development in this season. My question is: What made you choose to put Shayera Thal as the Hawkwoman in your series and not the popular Shayera Hol? Have a nice day!
We decided that Thanagarians don't change their names when they marry. (We try to do little things to differentiate cultures, here and there.) So "Thal" is, in essence, the equivalent Shayera's "maiden name". But the character we've chosen is basically the Shayera who was Hawkman's wife when the Thanagarian versions of both Katar and Shayera were both first introduced way back when.
Hawkwoman did get a bit more screen time in Outsiders. I hope you enjoyed it.
Hi Greg! One of the people you follow on Twitter is making false claims to police that local comic stores refusing to carry certain books are involved in pedophile rings (aka pizzagating). Is this something you are aware of?
No. Someone I follow or someone who follows me?
I'm not on Twitter much these days. Is this still going on?
Hi Greg-- looking forward to the new season of YJ. I know we always get excited when new, licensed Gargoyles merch hits the market so I wanted to make you aware of this:
https://www.tfaw.com/Toys/Profile/Pop-Specialty-Series-Disney-Gargoyles-Hudson-Vinyl-Figure___573184?utm_source=AdWords&utm_campaign=&adgroup=&ad=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg5n6q9z72gIVVsDICh3MIAefEAkYASABEgKU8_D_BwE
I've already preordered 2. I imagine good sales will lead to future releases so buy, buy, buy & spread the word!!
It's great that they made those! Wish I had gotten some.
Is David Bowie exists in Earth-16? The Beatles?
Of course Bowie and the Beatles existed!
Does Wolf have romantic feeling for Fox during their time as members of The Pack?
I don't recall thinking so.
When Demona had the Phoenix Gate(Vows), why didn't she use it to transport some of the members of her clan to present day Scotland instead of bringing her younger self to the year 994?
How would that suit her one-track-mind plans?
Could Queen Bee's power influence a female who was not conscious of her own same-sex attraction? Or, I suppose, fail to effect a male who was not aware of his own same-sex attraction?
I would think so. It's bio-chemical. Not psychological.
Marie Logan seemed annoyed by the team's presence. Was it just because of M'Gann's uncanny resemblance to her, or is she generally unfriendly?
I think she was simply focused on the health of her animal charges.
Hi Greg. I'm going to ask for a spoiler only because it is a spoiler you have already given us.
Years ago, you said that a villain from the YJ:Legacy would play a role in season 3 - if it ever happened. Is that still the case? (I'm guessing you were referring to Tiamat as she is the only villain specific to Legacy.)
Also, is the general plan you had for season 3 the same as it was when you completed season 2? I guess you'll be able to talk more freely about this after Outsiders has aired.
1. There were a number of villains that Legacy and Outsiders had in common. I no longer remember who specifically I might have been referring to.
2. The general plan for the entire series (including S3) hasn't changed.
Hey, Greg! How you're doing? Can you name all the creators of the show? It always bothered me that I can't find this info anywhere, and I think they deserve credit for the amazing show they created. :)
Which show are we talking about?
Hey. I was just watching one of my favorite TV shows ever, Ben 10. And while watching I discovered that you wrote not only the best episode of the show objectively, Ben 10,000, but also my personal favorite episode Under Wraps. I just wanted to say thank you. You did a great job making a great show even better. What was it like working with those guys on that show if you remember. I know it was a long time ago.
I had a great time working with Tom Pugsley and Greg Klein (the latter of whom I also went to high school with). They made my freelance gigs on that series pretty easy. They also did me a big favor. I had been working on the non-union show W.I.T.C.H. for some time and was in danger of losing my union health insurance. The work they gave me allowed me to keep my coverage.
How would you describe the difference between Atlanteans in a taxonomic sense. Are they different species or different races. Is it like the difference between Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthals or is is the difference between Caucasians and Africans?
Neither.
Regular humans = Homo Sapiens Sapiens
Atlantean humans = Homo Sapiens Mermanus (or maybe Homo Mermanus Sapiens, I'm not sure which is correct)
What happen to Marie LOGAN and Garfield Logan's house in 2011 after Marie Logan died ?
It was closed up.
1) Have you ever attended a con in Canada?
2) Have you ever been invited to a con in Canada?
3) I may have mentioned this already but I suggested you as a guest for the Toronto fan-expo in August. Is this something you would be interested in attending?
1. Yes. Once.
2. Yes. Once.
3. Sure.
Hello Greg, I deeply enjoyed the Traveler Warcraft novels that you worked on. I am a roleplayer who enjoys writing stories about the Warcraft universe, but Blizzard has a tendency to be inconsistent with explaining things about their universe and leaving a lot of blank spots. Your novel has added so much to the world so far. One thing eludes me though...
We know very little about how Dryads reproduce or how they age and about their life cycles. Book 2 had some hints, but there's still many questions left to answer. What about Frost Nymphs from Northrend? What about Lunara who predates the Kaldorei civilization? There's many questions to ask, but my main one is the following:
Will we learn more about Dryads in book 3?
We would have if I had been allowed to write it. Maybe the new writer did. But I haven't read the book.
1. Mr Weisman, will you be attending any conventions this year or next?
2. If so, will any of them be near Arkansas?
1. I don't remember what I attended in 2018, off the top of my head. As for 2021, that seems unlikely, unless you include the virtual convention: DC FANDOME II. I might be at that.
2. No.
In the comics, Shimmer's power is to transmute matter but on YJ her power seems to be to melt or disintegrate stuff. I'm just wondering what the motive was for the change. Did you think her original power was too powerful? Was it just to switch things up? Or, was it for some other reason I haven't thought of?
It seemed to work with how we were using her. Plus we prefer the cleaner clarity of a simpler power, generally.
Some Captain Marvel questions:
1) In Alpha Male, Captain Marvel flies all the way from India to Fawcett City in a few hours. Is it safe to assume Cap can fly at least at the speed of sound and possibly beyond?
2) Does Captain Marvel heal faster than a normal human?
3) Would the courage of Achilles protect Cap from fear based attacks from villains such as Phobia (of the Brotherhood of Evil)?
1. Back in Season One? Maybe.
2. Good question. Maybe. It just hasn't come up.
3. Sounds like it would, doesn't it?
Do Superboy and Superman heal faster than a normal human? Is that part of their invulnerability?
1. Yes.
2. Not exactly. It's part of their solar absorption.
I was looking at some of your responses from 2001 and I noticed a response that indicated that the New Olympian Clan population was around a hundred Gargoyles. This seemed a rather low number for a clan that lives in relative isolation and safety. Lower even then the canonical 198 of the London Clan; so naturally Iâm quite curious about it.
1) Why is the New Olympian Clan population so low?
2) Which of the still surviving Gargoyle Clans has the highest population?
1. They may be practicing population control, as London does.
2. Don't want to lock myself in on that.
How do you plan out a story Spider-Man?
I'm not Spider-Man.
But basically, there's no difference in planning a Spidey story than planning a story for any show. It involves a lot of index cards, moving beats around until it gels.
1a. Will Superman and Superboy actually die if they are deprived of oxygen for long enough? Or just be left unconscious?
1b. How long does it take without oxygen for them to die/be left unconscious?
2a. You've said that M'gann and J'onn need to breathe oxygen, but they come from Mars where there is little oxygen in the atmosphere. Is this because they have taken mostly human forms on Earth, even internally?
2b. How do M'gann and B'arzz breathe when they are in their true Martian forms?
2c. Do Martians breathe on Mars, and if so, what do they breathe?
1a. They must breathe to live.
1b. I don't know.
2a. No. There is oxygen underground on Mars. Less than on Earth. But enough to breathe.
2b. Like Martians.
2c. Yes.
2d. Oxygen.
I'm so happy that Young Justice is coming back! Here a few age-related questions:
1. How old was Jonathan Lord while filming Hello, Megan?
2. Same for Sandra Stanyon?
3. By the time of their first appearance in the show, how many years (if they've been around for longer than a year, anyway) have the Cult of the Kobra existed?
4. Same for Intergang?
5. How old is Abra Kadabra?
1. Jonathan Lord was 59 but playing much younger.
2. Sandra Stanyon was 57 but playing much younger.
3. Haven't locked that down.
4. Ditto.
5. Abra was 40 in Team Year Zero.
Hello again Mr. Weisman!
I know you've made Radio Plays of Cross overs with Gargoyles, Spider-Man, and Young Justice! Which leads me to this Question if you don't mind!
Is There by chance any Other Particular Disney Animated Series, Like The ones from Disney Channel or any other the other Disney Afternoon shows, That you would like to Cross Over with 'Gargoyles'?
W.I.T.C.H., probably.
What was last year did Marie Logan have a job as a actor?
Not sure. HELLO, MEGAN! was her one big thing, and that ended in 1980. But I'd guess she did a few little things after that. I'm pretty sure she was largely out of the business by 1990.
At what age sporstsmaster thought Artemis to archery?
From a very early age.
In the episode Terrors, Ojo is about to blow Superboy's cover. But, before he can do it, Miss Martian telepathically compels him to blurt out the name Tommy Terror instead. Question: did Miss Martian merely use her powers to confuse Ojo who was probably already disoriented because of the fight? Or, was M'Gann exerting some kind of mind control? I wasn't aware M'Gann had mind control abilities. Does she?
She gave him an unexpected shove.
Hey, Greg. Love the Spectacular Spiderman and I've noticed some visual references to the Raimi films(quite a few actaully) but I'm sure there are many more that i missed. Can you point them out besides those?:
Pic in the bugle of spidey stiking to a wall like he does in Spiderman 1 festival parade, Him swinging in the like in, landing on the train and jumping on the building twards the train like in Sm2, the arms binding to doc ock's back, spidey throwing a piece from the highscool fountain like he throws that piece of clock at doc ock in 2, falling airfight with venom in the highscool like the one at the building site in 3.
There's no way I remember all the references. Not even sure if I'M aware of all the references, since our board artists and directors may have also slipped some stuff in there.
Dear Greg:
First, let me thank you. I´ve been a big fan of yours since the Gargoyles´ days. I´m an amateur self-publishing comicbook writer and you have been one of my biggest creative inspirations.
I only want to ask one question:
With Young Justice returning, do you know if there are any plans to reprint the YJ tie-in comicbooks? I want to buy them to get the full Young Justice experience but they are very expensive right now.
Thanks again and I wish you the best.
They have been reprinted in a two volume trade paperback format, which is also available electronically through Comixology.
Greetings Greg, as a fan you and your shows I have to ask.
If you could combine Spectacular Spider-Man with Young Justice (or just Marvel and DC in general), what do you think Spider-Man's relationship with each member of The Team and Justice League would be like?
For example:
1) Who would be his best friend on the team?
2) Who would be his Love interest?
3) Who would be his Justice League Mentor?
4) Which YJ villain would be his rival?

Greg...I am a big fan of Young Justice. And I wanted knows:
1-does the heroes with super strenght are able of holding back even when impaired mentally?
I am asking this because during the Mission on Bee Queenâs kingdom, Conner have punched many soldiers without killing or causing severe damage to them, even in a Berserker like rage. Plus even when mentally controlled, heroes like Clark, Bruce and Barry refuses , even if an subconscious level refuse to break their vows of never takes a life.
2-Is Darkseid enought strong to defeat Superboy with flicker of his finger?
I ask this because on recent midia, Darkseid is depicted as powerful enought to manhandle Superman, and took the entire JL(Clark, Barry, Hal, Arthur, Diana, Bruce and Jâonn) to defeat the lord of Apokolips.
3- have the JL fought against Darkseid before the beginning of Young Justice?
I am asking this because nor even Dick( during season 1) shows knowledge of Apokolips existence.
4-during the pilot of Young Justice: Grayson shown surprise on the Watchtower existence, despite his hacker prowess.
This implies Batmanâs greatest secrets he hides on his own mind and not leaves them on Computer, where someone could potentially hack information.
1. I'm not exactly clear what you're asking. Are you asking if any of those soldiers died? Or why they didn't?
2. We haven't seen Darkseid in battle at all. So, No Spoilers.
3. No.
4. Not necessarily. You have to know to look for something to find it.
1.When did Jade found out that her sister is dating kid flash? (I'm not asking about a specific date. I'm asking did she found out like a week after that happen or mount or mounts)
2. What we her reaction? Was she happy? Did she wanted to mess whit Artemis about her dating him?
1. Haven't pinpointed that.
2. She ALWAYS wants to mess with Artemis.
Did Wally and Artemis break up at some point (in 5 years gap between season 1 and 2) and then got back together? Or they stayed together the whole 5 years?
No spoilers. But they were, at minimum, largely together for the bulk of that timeskip, at least.
Hello Greg.
I know you don't work for Disney, but regarding their upcoming streaming service and Spectacular Spider-man, I am curious about something. Assuming they would want to add the show, could they or would they be unable to since Sony still holds the show's rights.
I don't know. But to my knowledge, they haven't added it.
So I wonder about something and I decided to ask you but you'll probably say "No spoilers" but I'm gonna try anyway:
1. Was Zatanna Robin's first girlfriend and was Robin Zatanna's first boyfriend? Was robin Zatanna's first kiss?
2. Was Superboy Megan's first boyfriend and first kiss? I think its obvious about superboy so I'm gonna skip him.
3. Was Wally Artemis's first boyfriend and first kiss? Was Artemis Wally's first girlfriend and first kiss?
1a. Yes.
1b. Yes.
1c. Well... no.
2a. Yes.
2b. Yes.
3a. Well... no.
3b. Well... no.
3c. Um... it depends on how you define "girlfriend" and who's doing the defining.
3d. No.
I mean, I don't know about you kids, but I was playing spin-the-bottle in sixth grade, long before I ever had a significant other.
When did Earth-16 Jefferson Pierce begin as Black Lightning?
Team Year Two.
I always imagined Wally and Jade liking each other for some reason, and then it hit me: Jade is like a darker, nastier, sultrier version of Artemis. So, my questions are:
1) Do Wally and Jade like each other?
2) Was it your intention to have the two sisters mirror each others personalities to some extent? Or, am I imposing my own interpretation after the fact?
1. They don't have much of a relationship, honestly, i.e. haven't spent a ton of time together. But I think they had good days and bad.
2. Both.
