I watched the first episode of Young Justice and, I must say I absolutely loved it! It, to me, is just as well written and thought provoking as Gargoyles ever was and look forward to subsequent episodes from you here. It has actually renewed my taste for the DC mythos... ( I'm generally a Marvel guy)

Side bar, when Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash are in the elevator with Superboy... I had recently watched Awakenings again. And when Robin opened the door I smirked thought "I wonder if commandos will be on the other end, with Robin sheepishly saying 'Heh, sorry, wrong floor?' "

Hey Greg,

I have a couple questions about Young Justice.

1. Is Aqualad and Artemis going to become close since they both have baggage? Such as Aqualads father being a villian and Artemis having a dangerous past.

2. I've read online an interview with one of your voice actors for the show, Jesse McCartney stated two things. The first was that the relationship between Kid-Flash, Miss M, and Superboy is going to become a love triangle and the second thing he stated was that early on in the season Aqualad would tell Robin this leadership job is something you were born to do not me and that he needs to take things more serious. He also mentions that this becomes a huge discusssion between Aqualad, Robin and Batman. So my question is whether any of this stuff is true or not?

3. Would telling the age of Zatara be a spoiler? If so then you dont have to worry about it. But if not I really curious whether this is golden age Zatara, he seemed like he was in his late 40's.

4. Is their going to be any episodes that will focus on each member of Young Jusice? Such as a story about Aqualad, Artemis, or Miss M.

5. How do you think Superman felt that night discovering he had a younger clone of himself? Of course he was mad as well as in shock, But he didn't react the way I expected he would towards him, he looked at him angry and basically pond off on the rest of the Leagures, then he flew away.

6. I understand that Artemis profile showed she was a master archer, but how good is she compared to Speedy? Would you say their equal, or one's better than the other.

7. How long would you say each member of Young Justice have been superheroes? other than Robin whos been doing it for 4 years.

Also I would like to say this, after watching YJ, I really prefer Speedy's seriousness over Robin's seriousness anytime. Plus Crispin Freeman is the best Speedy voice actor in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

Hope you're reading this. I really love your work on Spider-man and Gargoyles. As for my question: Considering you have the whole DCUniverse at your disposal, any chance Ragman will show up in Young Justice? It would be cool to have a Jewish superhero showing up in an animated superhero show. Sure, Ben Grimm and Doc Samson are Jewish and have appeared in animated from, but they've never said they were Jewish. Ragman's origin is tied into the legend of the Golem, so any young Jew watching it would have a Jewish hero to look up to. And he operates in Gotham, so it wouldn't be out of place to have Bats or Robin run into him. I'm asking you because you did have The Golem appear in Gargoyles, so maybe you'd want to put Ragman in Young Justice. Just askin'.

hey Greg,
this may seem like a strange question, but I was wondering about the character designs, more specifically in their civvies. At the end of "Independence Day Part 2" before Miss M comes, you see the four guys. With the exception of Superboy, they're all wearing long sleves, Aqualad shown in a sweater and Robin in a sweatshirt AND a coat. While the designs look good, it seems a bit excessive to be wearing so many layers in the middle of the summer. Was this just a decision made by the character designers and animators? Or is the Secret Sanctuary/Happy Harbor just in a colder location?

I strongly support Young Justice and am eagerly awaiting more. I just have a small question which I hope is not too imposing and I don't mind if you are unable to answer. The cast you have chosen are beautiful and seem to be very promising simply from the first two episodes, I just have one question that is important to me and as a very big fan of alot of female super heroines with Black Canary actually being my third most loved(just as a sidenote) I would just like to ask if the main cast of characters will include a couple more girls as prominent regulars, as you have stated before that the main cast will expand, because honestly I love Miss Martian and Artemis and would love to see a few more prominent girls on the team. This is by no means a dig at any of the boys and nothing to do with inequality or what not I just simply have an affinity to the ladies of DC.

But I do have a question. Now I know you're not going to answer any "is so-and-so appearing in the show?" questions, but its just a hypothetical question. I noticed that Zatara was part of the league, and being a Zatana fanboy I was curious, since her dad is in the league and this is about their "kids," I was confused as to how old she might be in this universe, since she's usually one of Batman's fangirls. So, hypothetically speaking if Zatana were to appear in the show would she be her typical adult age or more around Robin, Kid Flash,or Aqualad's ages?

This is reworked from my previous post as I realize I had worked a couple "ideas" in there, without really meaning too, because I got a bit carried away.

In response to the poster who talked about the gender imbalance (which I also noticed), you talked about the 4 traditional side kicks.

1) Even though Wonder Girl (Donna) and Wonder Girl (Cassie) showed up shortly after the formation of the Teen Titans and Young Justice respectivly, and Donna was essentially a creation for Teen Titans because the writers failed to realize that the previous Wonder Girl apperances were just a de-aged Diana, wouldn't you consider either of them as important core members of the team?

2) Don't you think we've progressed as a society somewhat in terms of gender equality since the golden age of comics, and should that not be reflected in updated revisions?

3) Any chance of Cassie or Donna as Wonder Girl showing up in future seasons (or even this season) of Young Justice?

Hi Greg, I want to start off by saying I am a long time fan of your work, I enjoyed Gargoyoles (both the comic and the TV show) emmensly, and I love your other work as well. I am working at becoming a published writer as well as getting into the comic industry and you are one of those I'd list among inspirations. So please understand that the following critcisms are not a personal attack.

Someone pointed me to this site after I had started discussion about the lack of female presence in Young Justice's pilot, and I did see your earlier response about not being able to work in the female Leagures for speaking roles, and your reasons for holding Ms Martian back to the end of the episode.

You cite that Donna wasn't a member of the Titans until their second outing (or even a real proper character because originally Wondergirl was just a young Wonder Woman who ended up fighting alongside herself), and of course Cassie wasn't introduced to Young Justice till issue 4, but would it have been impossible to work Cassie or Donna into the series as a sidekick for Wonder Woman so there was some female presence. I'm not quite sure why there isn't going to be a Wonder Girl sidekick on the team since that's always been a staple of the young hero group? I thought Artemis was going to take that role, until I was told that Artemis in Young Justice isn't the Amazon.

Ms. Martian being the immediate target for flirtation was rather irksome; I hope that she shuts the boys down a bit ala Angela in Gargoyles.

I know you an write women really well, that's why this was a tad disapointing... but I enjoyed it over all, and hope to see more of the girls on the team.

But please consider adding a Wonder Girl to the team in a future season if she doesn't show up in this one.

I apologize if this is a multiple. My computer is acting a little hicky... The new YJ cartoon aims for older kids, while the upcoming comic book is under the all ages Johnny DC line. Finding stories all ages appropriate is probably not hard, I doubt every episode on tv would be incompatible for the all ages crowd, but it is it somehow odd or difficult to write for an audience that is not necessarily the target of the main product?

That show changed the way people looked at Batman and company to such an extent as to shape the re-imagining of the characters in all forms of media. Mr. Weisman, during a Comic-Con interview you identified Batman as being the leader of the Justice League, and the rest of the League clearly deferred to him in the Young Justice pilot. So I started to wonder about leadership in the League:
1. Has Batman been officially designated the leader in some way, or does he lead by more of an informal consensus?
2. Is Batman the only leader the Justice League has ever had?
3. How does Batman feel about leadership? Did he want to be the leader, or did it take him some time to accept that he was the best candidate?
4. How does the rest of the League feel about Batman's leadership? Obviously, it will vary from person to person, but is there anyone on the League who is dissatisfied with the arrangement?
5. Aside from the leader, are the rest of the League theoretically equals (I say theoretically because obviously some have seniority or greater expertise in some matters than others).
6. Was it difficult for you and Brandon Vietti and who ever else had input to narrow down the League's membership? You probably weren't looking for a JLU set-up with dozens and dozens of heroes, and part of being a long-time comic book fan is developing a fondess for B-,C-, and D-list characters that sadly go underutilized. I know if I were called upon to do so, I would have a hard time not including all kinds of wonderful, obscure characters. Was it hard for you?

Thanks for answering my first question about the timeline It was something that interested me due to your ardent stance on making Young Justice tight in continuity and grounded.

By the way, good on you addressing the gender "controversy." I sensed no fanboyisms in the pilot. I'm personally always assailed and bemused when someone, regardless of sex, ethnicity, orientation, etc. complains of "inequality." The true sexists and/or racists are the ones who always troll for "problems" like this and complain as such. Genuine equality requires no quotas in my mind. Anyway...

My next question is related to Roy Harper, formerly Speedy.
Despite his cantankerous fiery attitude toward Green Arrow about his rejection from inclusion in the Justice League and a real tour in the Watchtower, he seems like he would be the eldest of the sidekicks. Can you disclose any information about his age in relation to the other sidekicks?
