You've previously stated that Kid Flash is a Harry Potter fan. But after his doing-everything-in-his-power-to-deny-magic bit in Denial, it seems strange that he would read a book about a teenaged wizard. And the quote that led to the HP fan question was in the same episode. I don't know. Something there just doesn't connect in this screwed-up brain of mine. Does he read it to laugh at the 'stupidity' of it? Or just for the entertainment value?

Kid Flash has/had nothing against the portrayal of magic as FICTION. That was his whole point. IT'S FICTION. He may not think STAR WARS literally happened either, but that doesn't mean he's not a fan.

In the comics there have been a number of explainations as to why the general public does not recognise Clark Kent without his glasses...do any of these aplly to Earth-16
1. Does Superman use his speed to blur his features?
2. Does he have unaturally blue eyes which are subdued by his glasses?
3. Is Clark Kent viewed as clumsy nerd, and a coward who runs away whenever there is trouble?

2. Uh... sure. I kinda like this one.
3. Clumsy nerd, yes. Coward, no. Not a hero, either, but not a coward. Just a human being, who SHOULD run if a giant alien is attacking Metropolis. But he's considered a fine reporter, who has taken some chances (human chances) to get his stories.
4. No super-hypnotism either.
Look, all you need to do is look at the original Christopher Reeve Superman movie, specifically at the scene where Clark considers telling Lois that he's Superman, and then chickens out. In that moment, I believed for the first time in my life that people could know both individuals and not make the connection. And keep in mind, there are VERY FEW PEOPLE who do know both individuals. Most know one or the other. And most people don't even think that Superman has a secret identity. They just think he's Superman from Krypton. So it wouldn't even occur to them to be trying to figure out who Superman really is.
ASK GREG LIVE - Correcting the web
So, I still maintain that ASK GREG LIVE was a great success, but I've seen a few posts on the interwebs that... undercut that success a bit.
With the best intentions, I'm sure, people have attempted to relate what I said, and although they got a lot right, they also got a bunch of stuff wrong. They either misheard me or mistyped or related the information second-hand or whatever, but I'm going to try to set some of the misconceptions straight.
Myth #1: "Greg categorically stated that Wally West is dead and will never come back."
I did not. Surprisingly, I was not even asked this question and thus never responded to it at all. Now, let me be clear. I also have not stated categorically that Wally West is not dead will definitely come back. And I'm not going to do either. Let me illustrate why with an example:
You've seen memorial holograms for Jason Todd/Robin and Tula/Aquagirl. There are four potential scenarios for those two characters coming back:
Scenario A) Both are going to come back.
Scenario B) Jason is going to come back, but Tula is staying dead.
Scenario C) Tula is going to come back, but Jason is staying dead.
Scenario D) Both are staying dead.
Break it down like this, and it becomes clear why I won't answer any questions about either character in this regard. Assume, just as a hypothetical example, our plan was Scenario C. Then someone asks me about Jason. They say, the show is over; if he's really dead, why not tell us. This sounds logical (in the moment), so I state that Jason is staying dead. No harm, no foul. I've only confirmed something that the show itself already stated. No big deal. That is, until someone else asked me about Tula. I don't want to answer this one, of course, because I want her resurrection to be a surprise. But I also don't want to lie. So I go for my standard "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT." But then someone realizes that I was willing to be clear about Jason, but not about Tula. Ipso facto, Tula must be coming back. And I've just spoiled my own show. Which, as I'm sure you know, I am quite LOATHE to do. Clear?
Myth #2: "Greg stated that they killed off Wally instead of Barry because Barry's death would be too telegraphed."
That's almost exactly the OPPOSITE of what I said. Rather, in response to comments I've seen that Wally's death was out of the blue, I said I found those comments to be ironic, because Brandon and I spent the whole season afraid we were telegraphing WALLY's death too much. We cut lines of dialogue from and about Wally because we thought it would send too obvious a signal that Wally was going to buy it at the end. (And this is NOT meant as a statement with regards to Myth #1 above. As far as Season Two is concerned, Wally is considered dead. What that may bode for the future, is something that I won't respond to for the reasons outlined above.)
We did - at the very beginning of the season's development - briefly consider taking out Barry instead of Wally. But we decided that Barry was too much of a minor character, and that his death would have no resonance for our audience, would exact no cost. I suppose, as some have argued, we could have spent the entire season bulking up Barry's part to make sure his end had resonance, but we didn't have either the screen time or, frankly, the desire to do that. Wally mattered to our audience. Even with relatively little screen time in Season Two, he MATTERED. And I think the proof that we made the correct choice is obvious in how it's torn fans apart over his demise. It hurts. It hurt us too. I still well up watching that scene - and I've seen it dozens of times by now. It is sad. It's supposed to be sad when a hero that we love dies. Given that, I don't have any regrets.
Myth #3: "Greg stated that Ocean-Master will have a huge roll in Young Justice: Legacy."
No, I didn't say anything of the sort. You guys have seen the villains who are participating in Legacy. You already KNOW he's not in there.
Myth #4: "Greg stated that Troia will have a huge roll in Legacy."
No, I did not. You already know the heroes participating in Legacy - except for the these-are-just-for-fun-and-don't-count-toward-the-canon-story characters. You already KNOW she's not participating in the story.
Myth #5: "Greg stated that Mary Batson is Lieutenant Marvel."
No, I did not. First off, I've never once mentioned anyone named Mary Batson. I have mentioned Mary Bromfield. But she is NOT Lieutenant Marvel. I did give a small spoiler about the Marvel Family at ASK GREG LIVE, but I'm going to leave it as a prize for those who attended in person.
Myth #6: "Greg stated that the plan from day one was to use Donna in Season One and Cassie in Season Two."
This is more of a half-truth. EARLY, early on, Donna was one of our leading candidates for Season One. This was before we had even narrowed things down very much. And BEFORE any true decisions were made, we were informed by our DC Liasons that both Wonder Girls were off-limits for legal reasons that were never explained to us. (So don't ask me.) So neither Wonder Girl was seriously considered. Then Geoff Johns came aboard and made both Wonder Girls available. Unfortunately, by that time, it was flat out too late to include Donna. So we decided we'd put Cassie in Season Two. And have Donna be one of the characters who joined and left the Team during the timeskip, and cameo her in Season Two. Unfortunately, for reasons reported fairly accurately from ASK GREG LIVE, we were unable to cameo either Troia or Mary at Rocket's bridal shower because there just wasn't time for Phil Bourassa to design FOUR new characters, i.e. the two girls in both their civilian and super-hero costumes. Had they appeared in "Satisfaction", then they would have also had cameos in "Endgame", since their designs would already have been completed. But since they didn't appear in the earlier episode, we weren't able to get them at all. This is a sadness to me. But there are realities of production that we're all subject to.
Myth #7: "Greg stated that rumors about DC wanting Wally killed off were 'complete horses#!t.'"
I NEVER used the term "Horses#!t" and never would. I clearly said "complete bulls#!t."

I realize Wally is a man of science, but considering Zatara, someone apart of the Justice League is a magic user, why didn't he believe in magic?

I think he explained that effectively in the episode. I have nothing to add, except to contrast how he was feeling at the beginning with how he was feeling about it at the end - when (despite what he said aloud to cover) he had clearly had a change of heart about the whole thing.

My question is, how are these points reconciled on Earth-16? If his telepathy with sea-mamals is not the product of sourcery, why can only he do it (or am I assuming too much)?
And if it is the product of sourcery, even inately, wouldn't it be a simple task to learn such a minor technique as the "water-bolts"?

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here.
Superboy, being the most powerful member of the Team, often takes on THE most powerful opponents. And, frankly, some of them flat-out outclass him. I don't think that makes him a punching bag. Though I do think he can take a punch that most of his Teammates cannot.
If what you're asking is, "Why didn't you make Superboy more powerful?" then I think I've basically answered that before. We did not want our heroes to be over-powered. I don't see what the fun is in that.

My questions are related to the Cave layout and refer to the Season One team/time period (especially given that now the Cave is no more - watching the Cave get destroyed in season 2 was truly tragic, by the way, though so beautifully executed).
During "Homefront", when Robin and Artemis are running from the Reds, they end up in what would appear to be the team's shower room. It's pretty huge, which leads me to wonder...
1) Is it a coed shower? (And if I'm mistaken and that wasn't the shower room, then IS there a coed shower room in the Cave?)
2) If so, do the boys and girls take turns (meaning the girls would shower and the boys would wait their turn, or vice versa)? Or are they all comfortable enough with each other that they just shower at the same time and are respectful enough not to stare?
3) If the boys and girls do shower simultaneously, do they wear swim attire (or something similar) when they do so?
I'm just genuinely interested in how you view this particular team dynamic. Growing up in a military family, I'm accustomed to different heads for each gender. However, after watching Battlestar Galactica (the newer series), I found it fascinating that the Galactica crew shared a coed shower room. And, from an economy standpoint, it would probably save a decent amount on space and resources. A very practical outlook, actually.
And I was just wondering what system the Team had in place for this sort of thing...

I was thinking about Aquaman and some of his weaknesses, and this one I don't believe was ever mentioned. The whole one hour away from water thing, is it valid on Earth 16. It's just one thing that came to mind.
So, I can't wait for the first part of season 2 to hit DVD on the 22nd, and then Young Justice Legacy is out next month. These next two months are going to be so crash.

On Earth-16, Aquaman can't be out of the water for longer than 30 minutes and 30 seconds. I mean, take any episode of the series. Start the clock and don't turn it off until the episode is over. You'll see he NEVER stays out of the water longer than 30 minutes - including commercials!!!

If Match was indicated to be the FIRST clone of Superman on Young Justice, and IF he is able to age (unlike Superboy), wouldn't that technically mean that he'd eventually be renamed as Bizarro, and then Match and Bizarro would be one and the same individual on Earth-16?

Match went to one high school dance before he was frozen. There he met a clone of Lana Lang. They had a baby. That baby became Bizarro. However, Bizarro was recently offered a job on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, so he changed his name to Comet, the Wonder Horse.

2. As a professional biologist, myself, I can say with tremendous certainty that they are 20% Thanagarian, 15% Mammal, 84% avian, 11% Kryptonian and the remaining 4% is a mix of Latverian and Rhelasian.

Superboy is taller on land by about fifty feet - especially when leaping. But in the water, Lagoon Boy is taller due to the pressure. (When he's underwater, Superboy is reminded of being in a pod, which causes emotional pressure. So he slouches a lot.)

So, weird question: in Homefront what kind of... Whatever was used to hold Superboy and Kid Flash? It kinda looked like ice, but ice is usually clear, and that seemed opaque. And if it was ice, then how come Superboy didn't just busy out? Ice is brittle. It shatters easily.
I don't know. Maybe it was metal that Red Inferno melted and then Red Torpedo cooled again so it stopped them quick, but they didn't show burns... please explain this.

Back when the Superboy clone was first introduced into the DCU, he was given a pair of "specs" by Prof. Emil Hamilton that granted him X-ray, telescopic, microscopic, & heat vision powers...would the Superboy of Earth-16 ever consider useing that kind of technology (if it were available)?
Or did he learn his lesson bout augmenting his powers after the patches?
Would this violate his "no tights" policy in some way?
I'm not asking, or even hoping that he will use the "specs", just asking if he would if given the oppirtunity.

Professor Hamilton gave Superboy contact lenses that grant him all those powers. In fact, he gave Lucas Carr the same lenses.

But enough fan-girling, my big questions actually regard the Flash family:
Did Barry Allen have any influence on Wally's (and Artemis') decision to leave the hero "life" behind?
Was Barry always a study science over speed kind of guy?
I may be wrong but didn't Barry disapprove of Wally gaining super speed powers in the beginning and is he happy that he's left the life?
Can Wally get "out of shape" speed-wise since hes at college and does that effect his acceleration or top-speed in any way?

3. Barry wasn't looking for a sidekick and initially accepted Wally out of guilt when Wally nearly blew himself up getting his powers. But Barry came to appreciate Kid Flash with time. On the other hand, I'm sure he appreciated Wally and Artemis' decision.
4. I don't think he's let himself go but theoretically yes.

Hopefully you can answer this but I was wondering since my idea involves dc comics characters, what steps do I need to take to try and get the idea out there? I'm assuming I'd have to get permission from dc comics first.

You mentioned before that the main reason for the lack of women in the Leauge was primarily due to lack of source material, ie. not many female Leaugers to choose from...but what about Vixen, Gipsi, Dr. Light, Fire and Ice, who are all established Leaugers through many incarnations, much more so than Rocket (which is not to say that I dont enjoy Rocket in the show, because I definatley do).
Were these charicters not considered? Just not fit into your timeline? Some other reason?
If any were simply never considered, why not?
It seems that not including any of them is a missed opportunity for diversity on multiple levels.

Dear Mr. Weisman,
In reading Ask Greg and other forums, I've noticed a lot of bashing of many plot points in Young Justice. So instead of any bashing or questions (since it might be a while till you'll get to see this and I'll get my answers by watching the show :D) you're getting a heaping helping of praise:
First off Superman: When Season 1 started a lot people bashed his portrayal and avoidance of Superboy. But I loved it. To me it felt realistic and honest. I'd feel violated and uncomfortable if I found out someone had cloned my awesomeness. When Supes did accept SB at the end of Auld Acquaintance I cheered and it brought a tear to my. People bash Supes all the time for being "too perfect" but here was a real portrayal of imperfection and humanity. I was especially excited when we saw the team up between Supes and SB in alienated and the good-bye was very touching, and then when it came out in the comic that Clark made an effort to get to know Connor as a person and not a clone my heart soared. So beautiful and sweet!
And now something I'll admit I had some issues with: The Time Skip. But not for most of the reasons I've been reading from others. I wanted to see more of the relationship develop between the Supers, and see them kick Luthor's butt :) however I've been a fan of yours way back to Gargoyles (which is still one of my all time favorites) to know there is a reason for everything you do, even if I don't know why. One thing I love about your productions is the cohesiveness of it, the stories don't change and don't go back on their founding principles. In rewatching the first season of Young Justice I realized if I had missed an episode I could've been lost as to whats going on. Even the littlest thing you don't expect is connected has something to do with the overall story. Thank you so much for a beautifully written and gorgeously animated show. In age when it seems some companies are dumbing stuff down I love the H.G Wells references and the respect you treat you audiences intelligence with, whether they be children or adults like me. Thank you again to you and your wonderful staff! Keep up the amazing work you've found a fan for life :)

Thank you. Although I will say I don't agree that you need to have seen every episode to get or appreciate our series. Sure, it ADDS VALUE the more you consume (show, comic and video game included), but you should be able to tune in to any individual episode and enjoy the yarn that's on screen. I do sometimes worry that the PERCEPTION that that was not the case might have kept people away. But if they had tuned in at any point, I like to think they would have been hooked. And then AFTER THE FACT, they could go back and watch any episodes they missed, while simultaneously continuing to view the new stuff as it appeared.

I'm not sure what you mean by "finishing"...? I mean, just for starters, what medium are you referring to? It's not like I can just magically whip up some cartoons for ya.
But (1) let's start with this notion: it can't be done. Because my mind doesn't work that way. No matter how much I wrote on Gargoyles or Young Justice or SpecSpidey or WITCH or whatever, those stories and those characters would simply inspire new stories and yet more characters. To me, the universe (any universe) doesn't come to an end, so how could I ever bring any of theses sagas to an end?
(2) I gotta earn a living, pal. I don't own Gargoyles. For me to spend unpaid time writing stories that I can never publish, is, I hate to say it, even dopier than a doing post-production on a series for free. And there are limits to even my dopiness.

And going back to Gargoyles and YJ, I noticed your secret connection with Celebrity Hockey (Hudson's favorite show). I thought that was pretty cool. I like how you use mirroring, foil characters, connections, irony, all that good stuff on your shows. Like in "Cloud Fathers" Coyote (the spirit) pulled a stunt on Coyote (the Xanatos robot) which was very similar to Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Superboy pulling on Blockbuster in "Fireworks". I also see you said once that the Light was perhaps influenced by the Illuminati in Gargoyles, but not directly, so I wanted to know if there are any other hidden connections between YJ and Gargoyles and if so what are they?

There are probably a ton. You can chalk up some of them to my sincere lack of imagination. But others are quite intentionally used as fan-service, particularly to Gargoyles fans, who have been beyond ridiculously loyal to me for over a decade. And often it's just for my own personal amusement. Trust me, if I could have figured out a way to put some version of the line "You beat up a beach!" into Young Justice, I would have.

Here are the Flash questions/comments I promised, mainly centered on Barry Allen.
Your portrayal of the Barry Allen persona to me does not seem like the one I am familiar with in his appearances in the comics, from the Silver Age to his death on Crisis on Infinite Earths and even after his resurrection and into the New 52. To me he always seemed a calm and collective police scientist who had somewhat of Superman's persona in the pursuit of justice. Your version to me seems more like the Wally West persona, especially similar to the Justice League and JLU series of Bruce Timm. He seems more willing to joke around, his outbursts in the first episode of YJ, and his over-eagerness of the present in Mount Justice in the tie-in comic book are just some examples that lead me to this conclusion. So mainly I wanted to know where you drew inspiration for Barry Allen the Flash please. Please understand that I am not criticizing you; you're the creator and you have every right to adapt characters as you seem fit, but it has somewhat bugged me throughout the series. I am happy with the other Flashes though, and glad Kid Flash finally gets some spotlight in an animated series, plus "Bloodlines" was one of the greatest episodes ever!

A lot of decisions are, I suppose, relativistic. That is, I can't have sixteen Justice Leaguers running around, all with the same intense, focused, personality. So I may take a kernel of something that I see in a character's LOOOONNNNNNGGGG history and develop that into something we can hang our hats (or cowls) upon.
For Barry, I think it's VERY safe to say that the Wally West of JL and JLU had pretty much NO influence on us. Cuz, you know, we were doing WALLY in the show too.
But Cary Bates, who wrote a huge chunk of Barry's adventures before Crisis on Infinite Earths, is one of my best friends, and he always made Barry a little goofy. A little bit of the boy scout, who still had that Flash fanboy in him, i.e. the guy who was inspired by Jay Garrick. We made that literal in our series... and we extended it into his personality. He likes catchphrases, even if he knows they make his wife and friends groan. He's a goody-two shoes and a happily married man and a scientist and a forensics expert and generally this slow, methodical but deeply honest guy, who likes his life and so is pretty at ease with his own sappiness.
He's NOT a smart-ass, which of course, Wally can be at times. And personally I don't think we portrayed him AT ALL like Wally.
But it's out there. If that's what you saw, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I noticed that Mera and Kaldur have different glowing tattoos: Mera has octopus tentacle tattoos and Kaldur has eel ones. Why is that so? And what kind of tattoos do Tula and Garth have?

Let's start by saying that the word 'tattoo' is convenient, but not technically correct. These are mystic cryptograms or whatever, and they're only permanent until they are replaced. And, as I think I've said before, a more experienced sorcerer can sublimate the markings so that they're only visible when in use.
Kaldur reached a certain level within a certain specialty. Tula advanced beyond him but in basically the same specialty. Garth has a different specialty, but is more advanced than either of them. Mera, is more advanced than any of her students - at least in Season One.
Certain markings are totemic. Others relate more specifically to the powers.

It was not the first time they'd heard about it, so, yes, they had a uniform prepped. It wasn't a replica of Superman's, but it wasn't the <ahem> casual wear that our Superboy favors either. (And don't ask me what it looked like exactly. I don't know. Since we never showed it, it was never designed.) And it had stealth-tech.

So let me introduce myself, my name is Daniel I'm from Brasil and I LOVE the YJ tv show. As for the comic book, still I haven't had the chance to check it out. But I cannot see why it wouldn't be as great as the animation.
Anyways… with the recent CN's actions and the future listing of DC's solicitations, a lot of speculations have surfaced the web. Do those same speculations harm you or the crew in any way? Note that I don't mean it physically, I mean carrerwise (e.g. the mood in the work environment, the relationship with the bosses… that kind of thing?).
Have you ever thought about, or did in fact pitch in an Earth 16 title for the DC's New 52 (such as the Earth 2 title)? If not, how about it? I imagine that great things would come out of it. :) And what about novels? That would certainly be interesting!!

I'm not sure what speculations you're referring to. But...
ANYWAY, I suppose this is as good an excuse as any to go through a bit of a chronology.
We finished the scripts for Invasion in January of 2012. So that's when I stopped getting paid, because although I'm a producer on the series, that title and even the responsibilities that go with it were, in essence, a courtesy, based on my experience, I guess. With a guy as talented and competent as Brandon on the job, Warners didn't feel any need to pay me to do the post-production on YJ. They had no problem with me participating, but they also had no problem with me walking away. (Same with Season One, by the way.) (And it was the same at Sony vis-a-vis The Spectacular Spider-Man. In animation, writers often aren't valued all that much once the script process is completed. From the point of view of these companies, I was really just a story editor with a glorified title, who was willing to do what he had to do in order to make the title real and NOT glorified.)
On one level, I probably should have walked away. But instead, I worked for free, helping to post the episodes with Brandon from January to October of 2012. Simultaneously - because I do need to earn a living - I did a number of freelance scripts for various series, including one for Warners' Beware the Batman, plus a Transformers Prime, a couple of Kaijudos, a couple Rescue Bots and a couple of Octonauts. Plus, there was the YJ comic, a few miscellaneous things, and I was also working on revising my first novel, Rain of the Ghosts. Oh, and Brandon and I were also giving free input on Legacy, as well. So I was plenty busy.
In October of 2012, we finished posting episode 220, "Endgame", and on Halloween I moved out of my office on the Warner Bros. Ranch and moved back to my old office in Beverly Hills. By that time, I was done with the comic as well.
During that period, Brandon and I (both separately and together) pitched all sorts of further Earth-16 properties, including (but not limited to) a third season (of course), animated spin-offs featuring Arsenal and/or the Arrow Family, a comic book entitled Earth-16, the Black Manta Celebrity Hot Tub shorts, a direct to DVD movie, etc. Brandon even pitched a YJ meets Scooby movie. Unfortunately, none of these were in the cards.
I'd love to say differently. I'd even love to say I've moved on, but I haven't really. Like many of the fans, I'm still mourning the whole thing, quite a bit. Perhaps even quite a bit more than is healthy. And - because I do need to earn a living - I'm still looking for both freelance work and my next solid gig. (It's been fourteen months without a real job, and it's starting to get a bit nerve-wracking, to be perfectly honest.) But Rain is coming out in December, and I'm hard at work on its sequel. They've both been very rewarding to work on, at least emotionally. (We'll have to wait and see if they turn out to be rewarding financially - but at least the potential upside is there.)
I'd happily do a YJ Novel, but like anything YJ related, it's just not up to me. It's just not a property I control AT ALL.

1. Not really, mostly because it was SO long ago, I don't remember very much. But it was the basic Rocket/Icon dynamic.
2. Geez. Um. I wanna say Denys probably brought the notion to me, but I was already a fan of both characters. But, again, it was a LONG time ago.

4. Don't know. I remember we pitched it to Nickolodeon in New York, along with about ten other ideas or so. Nick bought two of my pitches, Rain of the Ghosts and Madison & M.O.N.-Ro (neither of which ended up getting made for various reasons). But they passed on Rocket. I have no idea why.

6. Brandon and Kevin and I came up with a ton of story ideas right off the bat. More than we could ever get to, frankly, even with five seasons. Then the task is to organize our thoughts, figure out what would happen when. We begin to come up with a throughline for an entire season and organize stuff around that. Of course, every time we introduce a new character or event that triggers multiple additional story ideas. It's kinda unending.

1. Puberty (as I understand it) isn't a light switch. It's a process.
2. We're talking ancient evolution, and the Martians evolved along similar lines as the organic species which they now use for their clothes and Bio-Ships. In fact, I would think all three species MUST have had common ancestors. But I'm not an evolutionary biologist.

3. The latter - although not JUST his legs, I would think. (Though again, I'm not a kinesiologist.) All of which is not to say that his exposure to a yellow sun doesn't have something to do with it. That's WHY he's strong.

It's been brought up a lot, and entirely not your fault characters can't be open about orientation. Really thankful for all you've done. Nightwings "and some woman" line alone me feel so happy; a Hero from a show vaguely acknowledged I existed, and it really means a lot to me-and maybe some confused kids will be helped. Its hard growing up and trying to believe your feelings thinking absolutely no one is the same, not being able to look to pop culture for any role models. I know it's still too controversial, but I'm glad for our little corner. I don't know how to word this well, but I just want you to understand how much it means to some people you give us a corner. As sincere as I can, I just want to say Thank You! I can't word my thoughts great, but I really wanted to tell you how I felt, thanks for all you do, and your time.

1. In Psimon's case, it was simply an attack. More recently, the point of the encounter was different. It wasn't about attacking, but about acquiring information. But either way it was a violent psychic attack with very similar repercussions.

1. My mind has been going back to the grotto. Ted Kord is the only deceased member of the league there and the other three "dead" members were from the Team. We know Artemis isn't really dead, Tula it can go both ways and I know will find out soon enough, and we officially know the second Robin is dead. I guess I would ask, do you think it is because the Justice League is more skilled with experience and therefore the chances of them getting killed is considerably less than the Team that's still learning the ropes, or is it that the Team is just more willing to sacrifice for what is right? I mean Flash would have died if not for Bart coming back; he said after he was saved he realized he wouldn't have made it, so is there a relationship between age and courage and the ultimate sacrifice do you think for the League and the Team?
2. Why isn't a Kent Nelson hologram/memorial in the grotto? He gave his life in the line of duty and was part of the League (or was he technically just part of the JSA?)
3. I apologize if this is a spoiler, but when did the League and Team start the grotto?
4. I've read that 16 appears a lot in the show. Is that because it is Earth -16 or is there some other reason, and if so what? And did you choose it to be Earth 16 or was that a decision made by DC Comics and the powers above?
5. My favorite scene of Season 1 was in "Auld Aquaintance" when Superboy and Robin bring down Superman and Batman. These latter two are pretty much the symbol of DC (wish Flash was a part of them, but of well) and to see Superboy and Robin, who in my opinion, got along, but never so great and never a prolonged experience fighting together was really cool. The other Team members fighting their mentors were cool, but not like this, this was ice cold frozen! I think it really conveyed something central about the series about the sidekicks filling the roles of their mentors (and was really glad Superman accepted Superboy at the end), so my question is, was this your intent or was there something else? Do you think this is THE scene or is there another one you think is better or was your favorite?

1. No. It's about specific circumstances. Keep in mind, these are heroes who are dead (or thought to be, as in the case of Artemis). Nothing on the memorial says HOW they died. By this time, you know how Ted Kord perished - and it wasn't on a Justice League mission. You have no idea yet how Robin or Aquagirl passed. For all you know, the two of them might have been walking down the street in their secret identities, when a piano, a safe and an anvil fell from above. They both dodged the piano and the anvil, but the safe got Jason and then Tula had a heart attack.

Yes, they've discussed it. But I'm not sure how deep the discussions went for either of them (for very differernt reasons).

I'm just going to look around, hang out, etc. But ASK GREG moderator Masterdramon is also going, and we thought it might be fun to organize a semi-impromptu ASK GREG LIVE event. I assume most folks would want to talk about Young Justice, which is great. But we can also discuss Gargoyles or the weather or whatever. Chris Jones and I did something similar a few weeks ago at a Doctor Who convention, and we had fun. I think about twenty or so fans showed, which was a nice number. We might wind up with a few more or less. Or, heck, maybe it'll just be me, Erin and Masterdramon, which is okay too. EIther way, we want to try to keep the thing unofficial, informal, casual, etc.
The main question I have is exactly when and where should we meet up? Has to be Friday the 29th, and because (a) I'm driving down there from Los Angeles and (b) it's the first day of the con, it probably shouldn't be too early. Likewise, I'm not staying overnight, and I have the drive home, so not too late either. So an afternoon meet-up, I'm guessing. Or maybe lunch? An early dinner? Linner?
And where do we meet? How do we find each other? (I'm not familiar enough with the Anaheim Convention Center to know exactly where a good spot might be.)

I know you said in a few other questions that Ms. Martian was the only member of her family who had a "white" appearance. She also mentioned that she had 12 sisters, and that Martians stay close in large families through telepathy. So:
A) How close is she with her Martian family, now she's on earth? Does she write/communicate/keep in touch?
B) Was there any difference in her relationship with her father, compared to her siblings, because she faced the same prejudices He did?
C) How well did she get along with her siblings, was she especially close with any of them?
Also, I'm not sure if you plan on answering this in the show, so if it's not a spoiler request, why did Beast Boy develop powers after being bitten by a Green Monkey? Why not right away? And, would a bite from any other animal have done the same thing, or is there something special about green monkeys?

B. Every relationship is unique.

1. Our basic theory is that qualified Green Lanterns are hard to come by in Universe-16. Entire planets, entire populations, have been searched, with a ring finding no one qualified. Earth, oddly, seems to have at least the potential for the kind of greatness that a ring is looking for. And so it may be a recruitment bed, which does NOT mean that suddenly there are going to be hundreds of Lanterns on or from Earth, or even a handful, as just being recruited from somewhere doesn't mean you're assigned to that sector.
2. Guy can be a real pain in the butt.

After reading through some of the old answers you've given concerning M'gann, I'm curious as to her family dynamic and to general Martian culture. I'm asking these under the impression that we won't see any development on this front in the current season, because invasions are rather messy and time consuming.
1a. Because there is no hiding who they are, how did the general Martian population react to M'gann's parents? I assume they were generally socially rejected, but was there ever violence?
1b. How common are families like M'gann's--would she have met other people who have a similar background to hers?
2a. How did M'gann get the "Hello, Megan!" tv series? 2b. Is Earth culture, like television and films, commonly explored on Mars? I'd hate to have the Martians watching shows like "Jersey Shore" and thinking that was what all humans are like.
3. Was there a triggering event that led to M'gann coming to Earth, or did she just see an opportunity and take it?

1a. Nothing's monolithic, but, yes, generally, there was a lot of social rejection. However, I'm not going to tell stories in this format.
1b. On occasion. But they're not common.
2a. Via broadcasts that J'onn J'onzz sent to Mars.
2b. What J'onn sends is selected by him. He can't send everything, so he sends what he thinks is of the most interest, or is instructive (in some way or another).
3. More the latter, unless you count her entire life and identity as a triggering event.

I had a few questions that pertain to the Nielsen's ratings system.
1. Why isn't there any public information about Nielsen's ratings for most of the animated series that have been on television? Classic cartoons and many of the modern ones have virtually no ratings tied to them. In the past few years, the figures have been released for programs that have performed well for cartoons, such as the animated series that currently air on Fox, Avatar: The Legend of Korra on Nickelodeon, Adventure Time on Cartoon Network not to mention Young Justice, as well as a few other programs on or were on the air.
2. Are networks allowed to request that the ratings for a show be withheld or simply not released to the public? In addition, why are the ratings released for some episodes of animated television programs, such as Young Justice or Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, while not being provided for others?
3. As someone who has worked on a variety of animated projects over the years, were you given the exact ratings of a program to work with? By that, I mean were the exact ratings made available to you, and if so, who provided them? Or was that information not provided? And did these particular ratings have any leverage on what would go in the animated universe?
4. What were the ratings like for your original animated series, Gargoyles? A search on Google turns up an article, http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-15899915.html, which requires a subscription to read in full, reads:
"Walt Disney Television Animation's Gargoyles new animated show delivered a strong 2.8 Nielsen metered-market rating and an 8 share average over a special stripped debut Oct. 24-28. That was up 33% in share from its,"
5. Are you even allowed to discuss the ratings of an animated program, or is there a contractual obligation that prevents you (and others) from doing so?

1. As far as I know, anyone can PAY to get Nielsen results. But if you don't feel like paying, then you're reliant on getting those results from entities that have paid. Those entities tend to be news organizations (that may not think enough of the general public has an interest in cartoon ratings) or networks (who are only going to display ratings that make them look good and/or suit their current strategy). But I'm no expert.
2. You've got it backwards. Nielsen is a COMPANY that charges for its services. It's not some public forum that networks have somehow forced to withhold info from you. If you really want the info, go pay for it.
3. Very inconsistently.
3a. For example, on YJ, we occasionally got ratings reports from CN via our bosses at WB.
3b. Often, we got no info.
3c. Absolutely not, because by the time ratings came in we were way past committed to whatever creative decisions had been made. Whether those numbers effected air dates, hiatuses (hiatusi?) or pickups is a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine thing. I haven't seen enough of the raw numbers myself to make an evaluation.
4. As I recall, during our first season on Gargoyles, when we were weekly, our ratings were very strong. Our second season, when we were on five days a week, was during the peak of the Power Rangers craze, and although our ratings were solid, we were consistently beat by that show, coming in at number two for our time slot week after week after week.
5. There's no contractual obligation, but there are political considerations. Plus, as I said above, I'm not always informed. And I'm not fond of passing on rumors or making half-assed guesses.

I was just watching "Targets" again for probably the third or fourth time (and for the first time since before the show returned last September) when I noticed something interesting. In that episode, during the conversation between Red Arrow and Lex Luthor at the Peace Summit between North and South Rhelasia, Luthor tells Red something about Lexcorp being dedicated to peace. In response, Red Arrow says, "I've got intel linking Lexcorp shell companies to the sale of weapons in both Rhelasias. You're profiting off this war."
We learned in "Satisfaction" that the original Roy Harper had been abducted while investigating a Lexcorp shell company that he and Green Arrow suspected of smuggling weapons into North Rhelasia.
My questions...
1) Are these two events in fact the same? I mean, when Red Arrow was speaking with Luthor at the Peace Summit regarding his "intel", was he referring (unknowingly, of course) to the same event that led to the original Roy's capture (and, by consequence, his own creation)?
2) If the answer to the above is no, then feel free to ignore the rest of the paragraph. However, if the answer to the above question is yes, then I'm also curious: was Red Arrow's presence at the Rhelasian Peace Summit orchestrated by the Light in advance? I mean, obviously for Sportsmaster to extract information from him and issue new programming, Red had to be there, and he had to be alone. But if he hadn't been there at all, it seems likely that Cheshire would have actually killed Luthor - it just didn't seem to me like she knew what was really going on. But wouldn't it be too great a risk for the Light to knowingly put one of its own in jeopardy - unless they KNEW beforehand that someone (and a very specific someone, at that) would be there to "save the day"? Moreover, for this whole plan to succeed without Luthor being assassinated, both Cheshire and Sportsmaster had to have been explicitly told NOT to kill Red Arrow - which they could probably have done together very easily.
I'm not trying to put forth my own ideas here or anything. I just want to know, in light of the events and revelations of "Satisfaction", if I'm reading this whole scenario correctly. Or... am I just reading too much into all this?

"Okay, I'm pretty sure I NEVER said we were going to acknowledge an lgbt relationship on the show. I'm quite certain that we would not be allowed to on television. NOT ALLOWED. I don't know where you got any other idea. I've been pretty consistent about how I FEEL about this. I think it's cowardly. But I've also admitted that I'm complicit in that cowardice, as I know that if I insisted on bravery - and remained adamant - I would at best be overruled and at worst FIRED. And I need my job. I'm not proud of this, and I'm not happy about it. But that's the current situation. I imagine it does hurt, and I wish I could ameliorate that pain. But at this point in time, I cannot. I'm sorry.
Instead, what I've tried to do is write the characters consistently in the hope that someday things change and that some subtleties put in place now will help in their own small way to inch us forward. I also hope to have more freedom in the YJ companion comic, as comics have a history of being more progressive in this area. But we'll have to see. I'm afraid that for now, that's the best I can do."

"I'm very ambivalent toward fanfiction. On the one hand, it's very gratifying. I've created something that has taken on a life of it's own. That people like enough to invest their time into and create anew. On the other hand, I have a territorial instinct that exhibits a kind of knee-jerk negative reaction to seeing other people controlling the destiny of my characters. (That's the main reason why Goliath Chronicles was so painful for me to watch.)
For example, I know that TGS is doing their own TimeDancer spin off. That's very cool, but somebody mentioned (though I don't know if this was the final word) that they're not naming Brooklyn's son Nashville, because they think the name is silly or because they hate country music or whatever. I can't help resenting that. (I know it's not rational, but I'm trying to be honest about my emotions here.) I haven't explained the Nashville name. I don't intend to explain it yet. Obviously, I have no intention of making Brooklyn into the next Garth Brooks, but I'm not in the mood to go into my reasons yet. But when someone else decides that GREG THE GARGOYLE MASTER made a misstep regarding the name of a character, I bristle.
But going back to the first hand, I have to acknowledge that once a thing is created and sent out into the world, it no longer belongs to the creator, but to the interpretations of those who received it. If a fan believes that Gargoyles were created by fey sorcery, then to that fan they were, no matter what I might say to the contrary in a comment room. Fanfiction is the ultimate example of fans interpretating (and extrapolating upon) what they've seen."

So, I truly hope I'm wrong, but I have to admit I'm anticipating a deluge of questions asking for SPOILERS after the airing of this Saturday's YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION finale. I understand the impulse: "The television and comic book series are over, so there's no reason for him to hold back anymore! It means anything and everything are now fair game! He can never say 'SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.' again"
But, see, that's not how I feel about it. So here's why, and here's how that should guide your future questions at ASK GREG:
1. Let's start here: OBJECTIVELY we're not over. YOUNG JUSTICE: LEGACY is due out in the fall, and it will contain new content - a SUBSTANTIAL amount of new CANON story content, based on ideas suggested to Little Orbit by Brandon Vietti and myself, and all vetted after the fact by us, as well, to make sure everything from dialogue to timestamps is consistent with the property as a whole. Now, LEGACY is set during the five-year-gap. So I'm not going to be inclined to answer questions that require me to reveal things that happened during our time skip. And not just Legacy related stuff either, because if I answer some questions about the gap but refuse to answer others, I'll be de facto spoiling. That I will not do, so please refrain from asking questions about the missing five years.
2. If I've learned anything from the long haul on GARGOYLES, it's that things sometimes DO come back. So SUBJECTIVELY I don't feel like we're over either. I still have hopes - however slim - of returning to Earth-16 one day. So there are secrets that I still may want to keep. Particularly about "Season Three". I'm not saying I'll never reveal anything. Sometimes a tidbit here or there helps keep fan interest alive. But I'm not going to wholesale give away the plans that Brandon and I came up with for what happens next. In general, I'm much more inclined to clarify what's already been shown then reveal what hasn't been shown. So try focusing your questions on what's aired or seen print and try to refrain from asking What Happens Next questions. When I feel like revealing something, I will.
3. ASK GREG is NOT a good format for me to tell creative stories. Any question, wherein the answer could fill an entire issue of a comic book or an entire episode of a television series or MORE will not be answered, because I will not short-change a story with a quick response, and I will not tell a story here at ASK GREG. So try to refrain from asking questions that would take an entire issue or episode to answer.
4. Brandon and I have many, many ideas for what happened before Season One, a few still left for what happened during Season One, many for what happened between seasons (including but not limited to Legacy), many ideas for stuff that happened off-camera during Season Two, tons of ideas for Season Three, and many, many, many ideas for beyond Season Three. BUT... ideas minus execution are subject to tremendous second-guessing. So I'm not inclined to give you new content. If I had told you before Season One that Red Arrow was the mole, minus how we executed that plot, it might have seemed quite weak. It's the execution that demonstrates whether or not an idea shines. And frankly, I don't need the second guessing and, well, nastiness that the internet encourages. So that's just another reason to refrain from asking what else we might have planned.
5. I will not lie to you here at ASK GREG, per this post: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?rid=982 . But I also will not state things that I believe to be true if stating those things will pretty much guarantee that I won't ever work in this town again. I have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed and clothe, etc. So you will not see me bad-mouthing companies in this public space. So please refrain from asking questions that would force me to do that. The best you'll get is no response.
6. Keep in mind, I answer questions because I like to be in touch with the fans, and I think it's fun for us all. But that doesn't mean I somehow OWE you an answer. The more entitled you think you are to the answer, (I can all but guarantee) the less inclined I'll be to respond in any useful way. Maybe that's me being needlessly contrary, but I'm just going to admit up front that it rubs me the wrong way. So tonally, try to avoid a sense of entitlement in your questions.
All this is IN ADDITION to the FOURTEEN guidelines already posted here: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/ask.php I'll admit that these six new guidelines are perhaps even more subjective than the previous fourteen, but I guarantee you that we'll all be happier if you stick to them. There's no error there. They weren't entering Mount Justice. They were down the hall, not hiding. They just were walking up to join the others.
She first entered Mount Justice as a charter member of the Team with her B-designation. She was never an A-designation.
