1. Well, we haven't really cast Hawkwoman officially, and I'm afraid I don't have my files accessible right now to CONFIRM who voiced her, but I think it was Danica.
2. He doesn't currently have the capabilities to talk, but he has the vocal cords to do it, if that's what you're asking.
3. Ultimately, Bruce, Dick and Alfred had Thanksgiving together.

Hi, this is from yet another new fan of Young Justice. :) I just want to ask about a line Artemis said in "Bereft" about how she's "seen Kid Flash on the news." Sorry if this seems waaay out of proportion, but I just want to know if Artemis ever had a TV crush on Kid Flash before she actually met him? For some reason her mentioning seeing Kid Flash on the news seemed to suggest that...But then again plenty of people see him on the news, don't they? ...Hmmm...

I don't think the FACT that she saw him on the news means she had a crush on him. But she could have indeed been curious about him. He's a young hero about her age. That's something that she would have been interested in - maybe even fantasized about - as she dreamed of being a hero herself (and not a criminal like her parents).

1. I'm going to direct you to the archives, as I've answered this many times before, and nothing's changed about the kind of advice I'd give.
2. I believe they exist as fully as possible. I create backstories for them, whether or not those backstories will be revealed on screen or on the page. I make them real to me.
3. See the answer to question 2 and add one factor: Opposition to the villain. Again, check the archives, as I've discussed my theories of opposition before, particularly with regard to the villains of Gargoyles and Batman.
4. Characters make a good plot.
5. I'm not sure I understand the question.

You said in one post that there were a few individuals who know the identities of all the members of The Light, but those individuals could be counted on one hand. I think it's safe to say that Sportsmaster and Riddler are among those individuals.
1. Did Dr. Desmond ever know the identities of any of the members of The Light?
2. If so, did he know all of them or some of them?
3. If that is the case, did turning into Blockbuster make him lose that knowledge or not? (i.e., does he still know?)

I saw your answers to my questions, or one of them anyway, but I also noticed that I left out the second question.
The companion comics have a date of say April '12 on them (issue 12) but that comic came out in January '12. Was this intentional or were the comics finished sooner than expected? I was waiting for the questions to open back up to ask this, and when asked, I messed up and left out my question.
I've noticed this trend when looking at the page on the comic website I order from. I may be wrong, I don't know.
One added thing, I noticed looking at the comic site, that Issue 14 has a different look than 1-13, any reason why the change in the way you display the issue number.

I've never really understood why comics' cover dates don't ACTUALLY reflect the dates they come out. (For example, it's currently July as I write this but our "September" issue just hit the shops, stands, etc.) But it's a fairly universal thing. Not at all specific to YJ.

1. I don't really think she does. But if you see the resemblance, that's fine.
2. She has the same basic Atlantean attributes that would - on the surface - make her seem super-human. But she has no magical abilities.

1. I've seen many Kim episodes, but there are probably many more that I haven't seen. My favorite one that I wrote is "Big Bother", but I only wrote two, so that's not much of a sampling. And in any case, it's been a bit too long. I can't remember too much beyond the fact that I loved what I saw of the series.

Ok so, light refracts when it enters water, many people know this. What I'm wondering is if Atlanteans notice this when they go on the surface world, do colours look different? Are small details (eg small writing) hard to see on the surface? Is everything a little blurry underwater? etc.

Hey Greg love your show, and the characters. There's only one thing that's really bothered me in this series. What is it that Artemis sees in Wally that would make her be interested in him?
I haven't seen her do anything that suggests she's interested romantically. Again, that isn't to say that I see no relationship between them - just I see it as more of a surrogate sibling relationship thus far.
In order for this to be a romantic relationship, Artemis would have to enjoy Wally's company, and she doesn't. They rarely interact between missions besides when she's being a bossy surrogate sister to him. She doesn't like his sense of humor and I don't think she thinks very highly of him, either. If most of this interaction has happened in that comic book then that's different. Unless Artemis is poking Wally about him saying something dumb or seeing a chance to deflate him a bit (for his own good, in the end), she doesn't talk to him at all.
People have noted that Artemis got jealous of Megan in "BEREFT" when Wally mentioned knowing her, but they forget one crucial detail - up until that point, Wally gave Artemis his undivided attention. Being attracted to someone, and being attracted to their attention are two very different things. Besides, the problem with "BEREFT" being the biggest anchor to their "romantic" relationship is it relies on an AMNESIA, and the benefit of that plot trope is to have characters act differently than they usually do due to ignorance
I KNOW that Wally & Artemis are supposed to be a couple. My issue is that I see it as a case of the show TELLING me something rather than being effective at showing me. After all, "TSSM" didn't need amnesia or Dr. FATE to get across the notion that Peter and Gwen were kismet. And that lessens my enjoyment and appreciation of that subplot, where I feel it doesn't work without blunt signposts directed by the plot itself.
For equal time, Wally did spend much of his time beyond "BEREFT" flirting with Megan incessantly, until "COLDHEARTED" obviously. It was mostly his fault that they started off on a wrong foot, since he was upset that Artemis was replacing Speedy. Yes, he stopped referring to Artemis as "beautiful" after the amnesia beam was undone, but we still see he cares because at least twice he's reacted very strongly when Artemis was either hurt or "killed" in subsequent episodes. Of course, this reaction is similar to that of Conner - screaming her name and going on a rampage - although unlike Conner, Wally can't back it up. I've seen Artemis show as much concern for Kaldur during a rough mission as she has for Wally, which doesn't quite equalize it. I can at least rationalize that Wally likes Artemis because he finds her hot. I can't think of a single thing Artemis likes about Wally, at least romantically (or even in general). Which is why I interpret their relationship as more of a surrogate sibling quality, even as the show hammers that into a different shaped peg.

Well, believe it or not, I think she found him physically attractive from moment one. And vice versa. I also think she admires his scientific brain. Wally can be a goofball, but there's no denying that he's brilliant. And she's interested in the same science he's interested in. I also think that she admires his heart; Wally never gives up. And I even think she admires his normality, which is something she never had. I think she likes the way he holds his own with her, gives almost as good as he gets, which she respects.
Basically, I think there are a lot of reasons she's attracted to him - even if she doesn't want to admit it to herself. Now, whether we've succeeded in showing this is a fair question and clearly, as far as you're concerned, we haven't. But for other fans, we clearly have. And I feel pretty good about it, myself. So... <shrug>.
Anyway, the thing I don't think you're really taking into account - or at least you're letting this surface fact overwhelm your interpretation of the relationship - is that both Artemis and Wally are (or were at the beginning of Season One) two very insecure people who cover their insecurities in different ways. Artemis plays the tough girl, and rarely lets her armor down. Wally plays the blustering wiseacre, and rarely admits to his true feelings either.
You say they hardly interact between missions, but we rarely SHOW you any time between missions. And she pokes him BECAUSE she likes him. And vice versa. It's a cliché, but it's one based on the very real way people - especially teens - sometimes behave.
I also disagree with your interpretation of "Bereft". You dismiss it based on tropes like "amnesia" and having characters act differently. But the whole point of Bereft was the clean slate. Artemis didn't have some kind of all-encompassing amnesia and neither did Wally. They ONLY lost six months, which happened to include their mess of an introduction to each other. But neither were behaving out of character for even a second. We tried to show that if they had met under different circumstances, the attraction to each other would have been immediate and reciprocal, and neither would have had to go through all the baloney that their true first meeting caused. The amnesia didn't create an artificial situation. It was their bad first intro that created that.
Now, you may have a point about "Denial". Perhaps we did "tell" too much in that. But I think we ALSO showed. I see chemistry between them in that episode, which Kent NOTICES and comments on. You don't see it, so it feels to you like it's being shoved down your throat artificially. But we'll have to agree to disagree there. I see the chemistry first. The messed-up interaction (and other characters reaction to both) second.
Oh, and by the way, I don't think Wally was ever really upset that Artemis was replacing Speedy. I think that was just an excuse. Shallow as it sounds, I think he was WAY more upset that he tripped and looked like a fool in front of a pretty girl, who then (due to her own insecurity) made fun of him. He reacted badly to that. And she reacted badly to his bad reaction. If Red Arrow hadn't been an issue, Wally would have just found a different peg on which to hang his insecurities.

I bought the trade paperback of "Young Justice" (issues #0 - #6) today and enjoyed it. A few specific comments.
1. The Terror Twins gave me a mild "Jackal and Hyena" feeling; I especially thought of the Diamond Exchange scene at the start of "Her Brother's Keeper" when I read the part about them on the loose in the mall.
2. Judging from the flashback to the Joker's invading the Justice League's old headquarters, the Flash must have once been just as much a wisecracker as Kid Flash now is, though he seems to have settled down in the present-day scenes.
3. The story in #3 and #4 ends with Selena apparently getting assassinated by the League of Shadows after all, even after the two assassins we met "on stage" were foiled, meaning that the team failed in its mission - something you don't see in super-hero stories too often. The last silent panel brought that home well, I thought.
4. I thought that #6 came up with an ingenious way of telling Robin's origin story without having him break the "don't reveal your civilian identity" stricture, by having him remember it to himself.
5. The end of #6 was another shocker - a vision of Superman gone rogue, destroying the Daily Planet building and killing Lois Lane and Perry White, before Superboy takes him down. It left me wondering: does whoever was behind Superboy's programming believe (and fear) that Superman may indeed run amok someday, or is that what he wants Superboy to believe? (A rhetorical question, I should add.)
I also enjoyed all the humor in it, from the scene in #0 where Wally's mother is correcting his grammar and Superboy misinterprets her statement to Miss Martian unwittingly demolishing Wally's plan for a private moment with her by the campfire and Wally's account of his origin (and, yes, having two super-speedsters from different eras called "Flash" *is* confusing, though at least they wear different costumes).
I'm definitely buying the next trade paperback when it comes out - and I'm also glad that it's easy to follow for someone like me who has only a general familiarity with DC Comics.

Depends what you qualify as physical abuse. He didn't beat her or abuse her sexually, but he forced her to push her body beyond the endurance that any decent parent would force on his or her child. And he was certainly emotionally and verbally abusive. (Not that HE would agree.)

Hi Greg, i would like to ask how does martian shapeshifting work? How did they get the anatomy of any living lifeform correct by thing about it e.g shape and position of lungs, heart reproductive organs etc by just thinking about it.
Also, clayface's shapeshifting ability does the clothes he forms when he changes his form feel like real clothes or like clay and can he take those clothes off or they automatically reduce to clay?

1. Study and experience. Telepathy probably helps. But that's why, in Season One, Miss Martian had trouble with male anatomy. She had not studied it in the same way.
2. They'd feel like clay - though he can modulate how wet or dry, soft or hard it is.
2a. He can shed any of his clay (including fake clothes) as it's a morphic field that keeps him alive. And, yes, once out of contact with him, the clothes would revert to clay... though I'm not sure if the color would change or not.

Hey, might I first say how much I'm enjoying the work you've done on Young Justice. I grew up watching Gargoyles, and when I heard you were going to be the one behind my favorite super-hero team, I was beyond excited. You've also been able to create such rich mythologies and fantastic characters.
1. So, I know that you've got a large selection of DCU characters that are going to appear in the Young Justice series as both minor and major roles, but due to the fact that there are a lot of variation of certain identities (i.e. 5 different characters who were Robin, 5 different Batgirls, etc...), are there any particular characters that you would have greatly liked to use for the show, but found yourselves unable to due to the continuity and current time setting of the characters you've established?
2. Its been established in the YJ comics that it wasn't only Dick Grayson's parents who died, but also members of his extended family who were also in the act. In the archive I see you named his aunt who died Karla. Did you at any point consider naming her "Harriet Cooper", as in the aunt of Dick's who appeared in the Adam West Batman show?
3. Why was it decided by the creative crew that Dick's uncle would survive, but remained paralyze?
4. Why are white martians portrayed as more humanoid looking in the Young Justice comic, but Miss Martian's white martian form looks more bizarre? Was it part of Miss Martian's lie, or just a decision on the part of the artist of the comic?

1. Well, I suppose. But given enough episodes and/or issues, I'm sure we'll get to every character that Brandon and I want to get to.
2. Honestly, it didn't occur to me, but Aunt Harriet must exist somewhere on Earth-16.
3. It has to do with a future story idea.
4. AGAIN... nearly all the visuals of Mars in the comic were part of M'gann's lie. ALL Martians actually look (more or less) like M'gann's White Martian form as revealed in "Image", differing only by color.

When Garfield got injured, how did they fix his injuries? There wasn't alot of blood shown, so he must probably had internal bleeding which resulted in shock. Those injuries would have needed repairing so the transfusion would do some good. Telekinesis? Quick run to a hospital for surgery and back? Just wondering.
Also I've noticed people asking about the eye color change. Could that be a coloring error or was it intentional? Sorry if that questions's a spoiler request.

I'm merely curious as to why the second season of 'Young Justice' consists of only 20 episodes? While it probably hasn't affected the story you want to tell, it just seems unusual that WB/CN didn't give you guys the typical 26 episode order. I just hope it doesn't reflect a lack of faith in the show from the corporate end.

Hey Greg, I probably say it every time I post, but love your work. Been a fan since Gargoyles, miss Spectacular Spider-Man, and glad you were able to develop Young Justice (love all the nods to DC Comics, really shows you care about the material).
My first question is more of a general curiosity than anything else. With Earth-16's White, Red, and Green Martians, I was wondering why red over the Yellow Martians of the Pre-Crisis Earth-1? I know the Green Martians made red clones of themselves for Saturn for the retcon predating the company's latest reboot.
My second question is was the Wildstorm library of characters available for YJ? I was ecstatic to see Icon and Rocket and just wondered if the door was open for some of DC's other recent acquisitions like Gen¹³ and DV8 being in the realm of possibility (I hope this doesn't count as a spoiler request).

Wildstorm was NOT available when we began. I'd be interested in incorporating some of those characters if we got a third season. But so far, I've only included one - and only in a stealth way, that not even the company noticed.

Just finished watching "Image" which has definitely become my favorite. It particularly resonated with me because I'm a young woman dealing with my own insecurities about my image and my place in society and I was so happy to see M'gann's character develop and deepen in a such a way. So, thank you very much!!! Anyway my questions are:
1.) This episode dealt with deep subject matter in some areas. For example, the fact that M'gann turned into Canary and kissed Conner. I think it was a good set up to dive into M'gann's insecurities better but I also wondered why Canary's discussion with M'gann and the general reaction from the league (i.e. Green Arrow's amusement) wasn't more serious. I think Canary handle it seriously but she didn't really touch on the fact that it was inappropriate not only because it assumed another's identity but also because it violated the teacher-student relationship. So, I was wondering if it was just time limit or inappropriate subject matter or something else? Also, why wasn't Conner included in the discussion (seeing as he is also new to rules of society)?
2.) I'm a little confused about M'gann's background. Did J'onn know she was a White Martian and disguised her or is she just so awesomely cool that she fooled everyone? Is that why he is shocked to find out she is more powerful than he is telepathically?

1. Time constraints prevented us from going into as much depth as you or I might have wanted. But I think we got the most salient points across.
2. J'onn always knew his niece was white. But J'onn is also open-minded enough to know that her whiteness is only skin-deep (and often not even that). The differences between White, Green and Red Martians are CULTURAL. From a biological standpoint, they are INSIGNIFICANT. And although I think I've stated this before, M'gann IS J'onn's niece. M'gann's mother is J'onn's sister, and she is green. M'gann's father is white. Most of M'gann's siblings are green, though she does have one brother who is white.

First things first, thank you so much for letting the spoiler-posts be deleted!! It's not just on here that spoilers are coming up and I've had to take a temporary step back from the fandom so the last few episodes aren't spoiled, and I know I'm not the only one. But luckily some sites have done what you've done and banned spoilers from episodes that haven't aired in the US yet. So thanks, again, for helping out us fans who like to wait to see what happens.
Anyway, I've been loving these last few episodes, it seems that all the little plot points from early episodes are finally coming together!! Images was brilliant, and you have no idea how excited I was to see a pre-green Beastboy! And from what I gathered at the end of the episode, your version of how Garfield gets his powers definitely makes more sense than being bitten by a green monkey. Robin's reluctance to lead tied in to what he revealed in Disordered, and I loved the realism of that! Wally hinting that he knows who Batman is and Rob's actions to shut him up were hilarious! And props to Phil for the white martian design, I was thoroughly freaked out.
And while I'm on about the awesomeness of this show, let me just say that your brother (I'm assuming Jon is your brother here) actually had me fooled with Perdita's second 'death' in Coldhearted, and I'm never fooled by TV these days!! So, major props to him.
Anyway, on to my questions. I do apologise if they've been asked before but I've had to avoid the queue lately for obvious reasons and I don't remember reading them in the archives.
1. We haven't heard Robin's cackle/laugh in a while, and I just LOVE that cackle, is there are reason why??

I was wondering how far in advance you guys have the show planned? For example, when you and Mr. Vietti and Mr. Hopps and the other fabulous writers sat down to plot out Season 1, how much of Season 2 was clear for you guys? How much of a potential Season 3? No spoilers needed -- just a general question.

1. I don´t understand in the YJ comics White Martians look exactly like Green Martians do except they´re well white. So why does Megan´s true form look the opposite and I understand that not all aliens will look human or humanoid?

1. In the comic, M'gann was describing visuals to her friends that were false. But keep in mind that White Martians and Green Martians DO look pretty much alike. If you think J'onn's showing his true form, you're wrong. He is Green, but he doesn't look like Martian Manhunter at all.

My question is about Robin from your TV series, Young Justice. When you listed the languages that each member of the team speaks, you confirmed that Robin is multilingual, and named a few languages he's fluent in. But you didn't mention anything about Romanian, which I thought was his mother tongue. So which language in your show-Romanian or English-is his first language? And what is his nationality, then?

Hi Greg. I wanted to tell you I was impressed with the most recent YJ episode Image. I did NOT expect the topic of Meg's appearance as Hello Megan to be broached in this way, nor did I expect Meg's, evidently crippling, fear of her appearance being known to be presented and exercised in this way. This show keeps breaking expectation. You've become very skilled at taking the less obvious path, even in the minutia. I love it, and wish you many, many years of renewal.
Also found the creator credits for the Hello Megan intro amusing. Was it fun scripting & storyboarding the show's intro & segments? You got to break genre for a bit there. I liked Superboy's reaction to finding out his namesake a lot. I'm curious to see the fallout, if any.

Writer Nicole Dubuc even made us "Hello, Megan!" crew t-shirts, which a bunch of us wore to SDCC in 2011.

First, I just want to say that Gargoyles is one of my all-time favorite shows, and I often return to it when I'm lonely and I'm always pleased by how fresh episodes like "Vows" remain after many viewings many years later. I'm also a big fan of Young Justice--to be honest, it took a while for the show to win me over 100% (of course, very high expectations were in place, both because it's a DC animated property and because you were working on it), but, I'll admit I've watched the Brazilian "leaks" up through "Unusual Suspects" and those episodes are pitch perfect, so, great job, and many thanks. I'm VERY excited for what's next.
Now, on to my questions:
As several people have pointed out, Brazil and Turkey are ahead of the US in terms of airing schedule. I don't know if you're aware, but fans have undertaken to sub the broadcast episodes back into English. I know you have mixed feelings on the subject of fanfiction, but I wonder if you have feelings on the practice of fans sub titling your work, originally created in English, back into English with their own translations? (And if you do have feelings/ideas on the subject, would you care to share?)
And while we're on the subject of fanfiction--I know a lot of authors who engage their fans have a public policy of not reading fanfiction, and you're among these. IIRC, the reason is because you don't want to incur the risk of being sued by a fan who claims you stole their work. I'm a law student and something of a nerd/geek, so I'm intensely curious to know where you picked this idea up. I'm taking copyright right now, and two of the doctrines we've learned seem to be in contradiction with the viability of this fear: (A) The idea/expression distinction (ideas are not protected under copyright, only their expression, so the idea of having Prospero on Gargoyles, even if you got it from another source, would probably not be considered infringement since the idea of having Prospero on Gargoyles is probably too abstract, whereas if there were a specific fanfic which predated a Gargoyles comic by five years and the Gargoyles comic carefully followed the plot of the fanfic, that could be a case of copyright infringement). And, (B) Infringing works are deprived of copyright protection, so if a fanfic infringes on a copyright (which, presumably almost all fanfic does, unless fanfic is fair use), it would have no copyright protection. (Here a critical question is whether fanfiction is fair use, which is an odd little quirk of the law, in that it's a well-known black hole in the law of copyright that seems unlikely to be adjudicated, and therefore, unlikely to ever be resolved.)
Of course, I'm not a lawyer (yet) and this is by no means intended to be legal advice, and I'm also not suggesting that you read fanfiction (personally, I'd rather you produce your awesome original stuff than spend time reading fanfic). But as a law nerd, I'm intensely interested in the relationship between perceptions of the law and the law on the books, and to what extent the law (and perceptions thereof) impact professional practice.

1. I am HORRIFIED that people are watching episodes for the first time on YouTube - and in a different language no less. Given that those episodes were due to air in the U.S. in a matter of mere weeks, I think it's appalling that anyone would choose to watch them that way. So then having someone sub or dub it back into English seems beyond preposterous - and again mildly HORRIFYING. Just be patient and watch the shows as they were meant to be watched. Don't spoil them for yourselves.
2. I learned this fear from corporate attorneys at EVERY entertainment company that's ever employed me. And I've also learned this fear from personal experience from fans and others who have filed lawsuits or threatened to. And that's the key. It's not about who has a valid case, it's about who can make me miserable by filing suit - and how I can protect myself (as much as possible) from exposing myself to that misery.

Hey greg! First of all, I just wanna say that Young Justice is my favorite show, and whatever you're doing, keep doing it. :) I just had a few comments on the last couple of episodes...
IMAGE- loved it. I really liked how M'gann was forced to become her true self and I especially loved the ending with Queen Bee telling her to 'cooperate or everyone will know'. Nice touch, really enjoyed it.
1) Why did it seem like Robin didn't really want to be leader? Was it because of what happened in Failsafe?
2) Where was Zatanna? I thought she was a part of the team, but i didn't see her here.
3) Does Martian Manhunter know that M'gann is not really a green martian? Does anyone else know, or does everyone believe her?
COLDHEARTED- I liked this one, not my favorite necissarily, but I definatly enjoyed it, and I can't think of any question I have that wouldn't be classified as a spoiler.
MISPLACED- I had been waiting for this episode since the series stopped in 2011, and let me just say it was worth the wait. I loved it, I loved Zatanna's heart breaking cry to her father just before he put on the helmet, I loved how Captain Marvel seemed to make the terrible situation funny. And again, no questions without spoilers...

Hello there mister Weisman, I am a big fan of your animated works (gargoyles in perticular) Admittedly im not very versed in dc comics though I really do enjoy the young justice series and as i was watching through it I developed a few questions I was itching to ask if its not to much trouble.
1. What was the original t.o morrows motive for creating the red robots?
2. Ive heard alot of people talk about legal issues regarding characters use and even a rumor that you intended to use 'wonder girl' but couldn't. I know legalities is probably not your forte but I was just curious what sort of legal issues could arise if their all characters owned by dc comics.
3. Assuming in theory that the show turns out to be a sensational hit with the audience and the network (which it already is) for many years to come, how long would you want to keep the show running? Possibly a silly question but what im trying to ask more is 'do you have an overall ending planned for the series or will you invent more story so long as your able?'

2. I don't know. Though to correct your "rumor" - we were informed before we even really got started that WG (both of them) were off limits, so she was never really included in our development of Season One. Obviously, that changed during the Season, so we included Cassie during our development of Season Two.
3. No set ending, no. I'll keep going as long as they're willing to put up with me.
4. Yes, I can tell lies until the cows come home. But I have to be in the right mood.
