What name was LexCorp using to re-release the Reach soft drink?
SPOILER REQUEST.
Was the development of Dick and Barbara's relationship not shown on screen due to time constraints? I know you said a lot of the time that what was shown and who was shown was done so because they were crucial/relevant to the plot, and I can see why a romantic relationship would not be. Or was it something that was always supposed to solely be developed in the tie-in comic?
With unlimited screen time, I'm sure we would have dealt with it on screen. But given that we went into development and production of the season knowing we had what we had, there was never any real intent to delve into it on screen. Though I like to think our characterization was consistent with what we knew about them - which was given more space in the comics.
Hi Greg,
Sorry I repeated the number 3 on my last post...
I had a few other questions regarding the 21st MFD...
1. The location was the Arctic. Was this in some way to mirror the events of Failsafe and how there Artemis "died" but in Endgame Wally "ceased"?
2. How close or far was Superman's Fortress of Solitude from the location of the chrysalis?
3. There are no Zeta in the Arctic so where did Wally Zeta to and how long did it take him to reach Barry and Bart?
4. Has the Light always looking for the death of a Flash? I ask because I think it seemed it was their goal with Neutron and Lex probably knew his theory to destroy the MFD would kill a Flash.
Thank you...
1. It was Earth's magnetic north pole specifically. If you see parallels, well... who am I to say they aren't there?
2. Further than the human eye can see. But it was really close to Santa's Village. ;)
3. He zeta'd to the farthest north tube on Earth that the League has and ran straight from there.
4. The Light wasn't behind Neutron. The Reach was. I do think the Reach viewed Flash as a particular threat, relative to the Leaguers who were still on Earth at that time.
So what and how long did M'gann and Conner talk about that night he visited her apartment?
They talked about what had occurred on the Reach Ship.
Hey, Greg! Love Gargoyles, excited for Rain of the Ghosts, and I just reread the comics and have a question about the clones.
We know that if gargoyles A and B are cloned, the clones, C and D, will have photo-negative coloration. Now, let's say A and C are female, and B and D are male. Let's also say that A and B do not become mates, but C and D do. The egg, E, is not artificially sped up, but develops over the ten year period. When E hatches, will its coloring resemble that of A/B or C/D?
Just curious about the practical application of the clones. Also, I think a Gargoyles Kickstarter would be a great idea! Have a nice day!
Oy, that made my head hurt.
Well, first - you need to remember that the color change was a result of the accelerated aging, not of the cloning process.
So the assumption that C and D are photo-negative assumes that they were accelerated. Not a safe assumption, but for the sake of argument...
Would E's colors resemble A/B or C/D?
I do not know. I'd have to consult my Garg-science buddies.
I know lots of people are asking about Wally and what happened, but I was wondering if the reason it happened was because that so many people expected for something to happen to Barry and you wanted to throw a curve-ball or if it was a shout out to the Justice League cartoon?
Neither. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
And for those people who thought/think it had something to do with the New 52 - you need to remember that we were already WAY down our chosen path by the time the New 52 premiered. We couldn't have made changes to reflect it, even if we had wanted to.
I have to say I was quite disappointed with the season 2 finale and season 2 in general. I thought season 1 was outstanding. But season 2 was far too up and down to be particularly good. Also, I must say, as a major Wally fan I was extremely disappointed. You gave us so little of the character throughout season 2 and when you brought him back, you promptly killed him off. And that too because of the fact that he was too slow. Its almost as if you were saying that the character wasn't a good enough Flash and so you removed him from the show. Worst, we didn't even see the team members grieve. Not even some of his oldest friends. I thought it was poorly handled. A character like Wally deserved better. So what was the point of it? I know you say that you don't follow the new 52 but this seemed like you were trying to get to the new 52 Flash and Kid Flash with Barry and Bart. In my heart I hope that there would be a possibility of a Wally return because I find it hard to believe that Artemis, Wally's parents, and Barry would ever be able to move on from Wally's death. Anyways, even beside that I felt the finale was rushed. Black Beetle was defeated too easily for someone who was shown to be so powerful throughout the season. And his plot for destroying the earth came out of nowhere. I think a two episode finale would have handled both the Wally death and the final threat in a better manner.
Rant aside, I would like to like to congratulate you for your two seasons on this show. This is the only animated show that I have watched from the first episode to its current last episode live. Hopefully, somewhere down the line you will be able to make a season 3. If not, I hope you can share details on what you planned for season 3 because I know YJ buffs would love to know what you had in mind.
I don't think we ever even implied that Wally/Kid Flash wasn't good enough. QUITE the reverse. Nightwing doesn't have super-strength, but that doesn't make him any less of a hero than Superboy. In fact, one could argue it makes him MORE of a hero. So the fact that Kid Flash isn't as fast as Barry or Bart hardly makes him any less the hero.
Having said that, if you didn't like the season or the season finale, then I'm sorry about that. You wanted a two-part finale, but where would that second part have come from? Which episode would you cut for that? (Maybe you could name one, but not one that Brandon and I would agree to cut.)
There's no doubt that we'd have ALL liked more screen time for the finale, for Wally, for grieving, for everything. But we did the best we could with what we had. And I don't have any regrets. Wouldn't do anything different.
So, now that you released the double ups, I'm very curious. At the end of season two are Zatanna and Barbara friends? Or are they just tolerant of each other?
The "double ups"?
They're friends.
How is it possible that Impulse is still present in the 2016 timeline? he time-travelled to achieve an objective (i.e. stop the reach apocalypse) and with that objective achieved there wouldn't have been a reason for him to time-travel in the first place, thereby creating a paradox which would have erased impulse from the 2016 time line and placed him back in his own 'altered' timeline (where the reach apocalypse was prevented). Time travelling gives me a headache :(
Me too sometimes. But this is basically ASKED AND ANSWERED already. Check the archives under Young Justice Invasion or Time Travel.
Batgirl and Aqualad joined in the justice league?
Huh?
given the Veronica Mars movie has nearly double the estimate budget needed to make the movie a reality (which means even with unexpected hiccups they have good odds of financing it)
So....If the movie successfully debuts (which will probably take a bit of a while since producing a stellar film takes time) and it turns out to be a great success (which givcn the creative team behind it, grants good odds)
Well, I seem to have gotten a little side tracked, but I just wanted to say that I would be one of the people happy to pledge some money in the support of one of your amazing creations and im certain the many many fans you have would quickly pledge for such a cause!
Thanks. But as it's turned out - at least so far - no one seems to interested at the major studios in following the VM model.
Hi Greg, I was wondering, was the apocalyptic setting shown in the final moments of "Bloodlines" (when Nathaniel Tryon was saying, "The mode should have crashed, should have all crashed...") averted?
The so-called Reach Apocalypse was averted.
Hi Greg
First of all thanks for giving us such a great and unique DC series after such a long time. Even though I was devastated by the finale, there is no doubt YJ was a great series and I really hope you get to make more of it(and hopefully Wally West gets to return from the dead). Actually YJ got me back into reading comics and watching cartoons after quite a along time and thanks for that.
Anyway I would like to ask you a different question. Do you have any plans of reusing the spitfire pairing in any of your foreseeable future projects. I hope you do because growing up Wally was my favorite dc character but his relation with Linda never intrigued me(plus it was the reporter superhero combo once again). The spitfire pairing was rather unique and I think the fans really loved it. I really hope you get to use it again given that the DC higher ups gets over their current Wallyphoebia.
Anyway best of luck for all your future endeavors.
It's not up to me. I don't control the DC characters. Be happy to, though.
First off thank you for having brought such an amazing series to life. After having endured the aftermath of Endgame, I believe there's still a question on everyone's mind, if matter can't be created nor destroyed then how was it there were no ashes left after Wally "ceased"? Also the scarabs words used were "ceased" instead of say dead, why? Finally as you've mentioned before there is no speed-force in Earth-16, so could there be other parallel Earth's?
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Hi again! Sorry for annoying you with my questions but I just remembered the ones I've been meaning to ask/find for a while now.
1) When exactly did Red Arrow and Jade get married?
2) What happened to the real Jim Harper? Did her die or just hasn't been found yet?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. Which real Jim Harper?
First of all, a big thank you for making this show. Outside of the Batmanverse, I have always ignored the other mainline DC comics like Superman and Flash. This show has introduced me to the entire DC Multiverse. And I'm heartbroken that it got cancelled when you were about to delve into one of the most intriguing events of the DC World. Hoping for a return to this world in animated form, either as a TV series or as a Movie series.
I would like to get some clarity on some points.
1.Did Luthor admit to being the member of the Light on camera in front of an UN member? Given the information obtained by Kaldur, won't that make him look like a traitor to the Earth?
2.With Guy Gardner(my favourite GL!)finally getting some airtime again, I would like to know who is the assigned GL of the Earth sector and what are the designations of the other two in the Corps?
3.Why was Jay not included in the final race to stop the 21st MFD?
And finally, I see the rationale behind why Wally had to be the one to *die*, and while Wally's absence in the major portion of the season did dampen it a little, I wholly support it. But actually, who took the call to *kill* Wally in the planning stages for this episode?
1. Luthor didn't "admit" to anything. He deflected. Watch the scene again.
2. I'm not sure what you mean by "designations". And I'm not going to get into the rules of the Universe-16 GLC, as that would be a SPOILER REQUEST for something specific we have planned.
3. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
4. "took the call"?
Hi Greg,
Just saw the stuff cut for time for Endgame.
So many potential plot and content in there! It's fun to read. and a pity we cannot see them on the screen.
Is there stuff cut for every Episode? I guess yes, the time is too limited and the plot is just too many to handle.
So, would it be possible to post the stuff cut of every episode in Greg's Ramblings? Like one week for one episode? it would be interesting to see them and review the episode again.
Not every episode, no. In fact, not for most of them. I think I've posted all the significant cuts here already.
Hi Greg! Amazing finale, even if I'm crying a little. I'm curious though, why did you allude to Lex becoming Secretary General, when it's not possible? Anyone coming from one of the five nations holding a permanent seat on the security council, US, Great Britain, France, Russia, and China, is automatically ineligible for the position.
Also loved the moment with Apokolips at the end, wish it was longer! I also wish we could've seen G Gordon Godfrey working for Apokolips a bit more :/
Maybe G. Gordon didn't know that. Or maybe he thought the rules can and should be changed.
Dear Mr. Weisman,
You have been responsible for two of my favorite shows--Gargoyles and Young Justice. They have brought me much enjoyment and I thank you greatly for that. You a writer of the highest caliber, able to write deeply intrinsic plots and characters who are both philosophically intelligent and comically amusing. Your talents are recognized not only by your fans, but also through organized bodies with highly publicized awards, such as the Emmy.
So quite objectively, your work is very good and many people enjoy the shows you produce. Why is it then, and I ask this with as minimal offense as possible, that your shows always seem cut tragically short?
Gargoyles and Young Justice both deserved additional seasons, yet the cries from fans seem to fall on deaf ears. Are network producers really so blind?
I'm not sure the Emmys have recognized my talents... but I'm glad the fans have.
The thing to keep in mind is that MOST shows don't go on forever, and few even go as long as their creators would like. My situation is not unusual at all.
Since virtually every wardrobe change in a cartoon requires a new character model turn sheet, what did your character designers draw for scenes like when Fox was naked on the rooftop in Eye of the Beholder or Elisa was naked under a blanket in Heritage?
It was a long time ago. But if you're asking if I have naked production pictures of them, I'm sure the answer is no.
Hey Greg, Congrats on a completed second season. I'm on a friends computer and I'm running short on time so I'll get straight to the questions.
1. at the end of "end game" when impulse asks artemis if she will be tigress as a hero she responds she will be tigress as a blonde, Was there any deep meaning behind that? or was it more of a half hearted joke type remark? if that is a question that would warrant a "SPOILER REQUEST"
2. What made you choose Wally? Was it just on a whim? or was there a greater underlying theme?
3. what is Wally and artemis's puppys name?
Thanks Greg.
1. Just a joke. (What other meaning did you have in mind?)
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
3. Bruce, I think.
Hi Greg,
Thank you so much for Young Justice. It is and always will be one of my favorite superhero series. Heck, it got me into superheroes again. So, thank you for the wonderful series. I just have two questions I had about Asami.
1) Was Asami from Japan originally or had she recently moved to America before she was kidnapped?
2) What was Asami's motive for running away from home?
I don't mind if this gets a "Spoiler Request, No Comment", I just wanted to let you know how much I love the series.
1. She was kidnapped from Japan.
2. SPOILER REQUEST.
Hey Greg, thanks so much for Young Justice, it is a great show and like you I don't feel like it's over yet. I love how in season 2 you introduced one of my favorite heroes Virgil Hawkins AKA. Static. Could you describe how he would appear in this universe in costume, I was really hoping he would have suited up at the end of 'ENDGAME'.
He was suited up.
I have loved Young Justice from the beginning and I really hope we get to see more seasons or more of earth 16 soon. I really like the way there are so many twist but Im really mad about what happened to Wally and it didn't seem right that he would be the one to die and I hope that if given more episodes in the future we would get to see more of him because Im really sad right now.
1. You posted extra lines that were not in the episode recently I was wondering if they got cut just from what aired or if they were cut from the script and never recorded?
2. Are there any extra scenes from other episodes that were animated and recorded but were just not in the aired episodes? if so is there a way to see them?
3. When Artemis and Kaldur were undercover Black Manta mentioned to Artemis that he knew Kaldur "cared" for her, did he have the impression that Kaldur was was in love with her?
I feel like this show has so much left to offer and hope that DC and CN will see that too eventually. Im not ready to let go of this show.
1. It's been a while now, but I think they were recorded but cut at the storyboard stage because either (a) the episode was too long or (b) we thought it would telegraph Wally's death or (c) both.
2. I don't think so. Maybe little snippets of scenes, but not entire scenes.
2a. Not that I know of.
3. Yes.
I was just wondering since the show is done can you fill in the blanks on the designations. I can safely guess that B26 is Static?

What was your favorite line you said when you voiced Snapper Carr?
"O-mega..?"
Compliments on Endgame. The mixture of victory and happiness, regret and loss, and a hope for a better future, wrapped up Invasion, in my opinion, the perfect way.
Good to see the Reach, especially Black Beetle, get their comeuppance. But, of course, I was saddened by Wally's death. The passing of the Kid Flash torch from Wally to Bart really emphasized what I believe Young Justice is all about.
As Artemis said, there will always be a world to save in Earth-16. The responsibility will continue to be passed from one generation of heroes to the next, with sacrifices along the way. Not all heroes on Earth-16 will be lucky enough to leave the hero "gig" (as Black Lightning described it) alive; or without serious injury; or without losing a comrade, friend or family member. The current generation can only move ahead to do what must be done.
With your mention of a time skip for a third season, I am curious about the 10-30 years post Endgame. As a fan of Batman Beyond, the concept of an aging Bruce Wayne physically unable to continue with his mission interested me. I thought about how the DC heroes would deal with their gradual loss of strength and endurance, and their realization that their active role in the "gig" is nearing its end. That version of Bruce virtually isolated himself for decades. Whether or not you planned to tell stories this far in the future, did you ever consider what the current League and Team members' abilities would be like down the line? And how that would impact their personalities?
Thanks again to you, Brandon and everyone who brought this show to us. I look forward to Legacy and hope more Young Justice stories can be told.
Brandon and I have a LOT of ideas for down the line. A LOT.
Thank you Greg and team for making the most joyous show in entertainment. It speaks volumes about the kind of artist you are, and the kind of people you are. I'm talking about The young Justice show.
What you achieved with the show touches the core of every true artist out there. The kind of artist that wants to evoke all kinds of emotions in people without resorting to gimmicks in order to keep his/her audience engaged. he/she wants people to get emotionally attached to his/her work.
(To avoid confusion, I'm going to pretend that the artist i'm referring to here is a man while still maintaining a fair stance that involves both genders. Therefore I'll use 'he' and all the adjectives that are associated with it as a pronoun that stands for both 'he' and 'she'.)
he does this because he wants to feel like he has a complete connection with his audience. It's almost like he forces his audience to share his fantasy with him, and he achieves this by creating grand visuals of his imagination. You achieved this with your show. No award, no matter how grand it is, can be used to capture the grandness of what you archived.
Thank very much for the sacrifices you had to make to bring this to us. We will always be indebted to you. You've gained fans for life with your work. I wish you the very best going forward.
Thank you.
Hey Greg. First off, I want to thank you, the cast and crew for giving a great quality superhero show that hasn't been seen for the longest time and I hope Cartoon Network makes the right decision in renewing the series as well as Green Lantern. Now for the question:
Obviously during season 2, Dick & Wally's friendship had suffered during the invasion. Mostly with the latter not approving Nightwing's methods of obtaining information about the Light & the Reach. So between the time of Intervention & Endgame, were Dick & Wally able to reconcile their differences and renew their friendship? It wasn't stated within the show; even though both of them congratulated Aqualad for ending the Light-Reach alliance, there never seemed to be a moment where there was a heart-to-heart conversation between them with Wally reuniting with Artemis, which was great, and Nightwing giving leadership back to Kaldur.
As I've stated - at this point - many times before, I don't actually think their friendship "suffered" as much as some people did. There's no doubt the ENTIRE situation was tense, and they argued. But they were NEVER NOT friends, and no reconciliation was necessary in my mind. No "renewal" was necessary. That's why we didn't dedicate any (precious, precious) screentime to it. It didn't seem necessary. Best friends fight sometimes. But they get over it fairly quickly, in my experience.
Loved the series finale of Young Justice, though as a fan of Wally West his apparent death was a stab to the heart. I did like how there was enough ambiguity in the nature of his death to pull off bringing him back in season 3 if you had desired to(which we sadly will not likely get).
Anyway, my questions are:
1. Who did Rocket get married to?
2. When I see people dicuss your role with Young Justice, it makes it seem like you're the one with the final say when it comes to storyboard matters, which I'm sure you can attest is not true. Were there any elements from the first two seasons that you didn't initially like but were outvoted on by other producers/staff members?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. Um... Well, for starters, you're right that I didn't have final say on anything in a vacuum. Brandon and I together had final say. Scripts were more my domain, and storyboards, his. But we both had to agree on everything. And mostly we did. Since there's only two of us, no one was ever outvoted. On the rare occasions where we disagreed, we had to work together to find a solution that worked for both of us.
The ONLY exception that comes to mind is on Deathstroke's ponytail. I didn't like it. Brandon and Phil Bourassa, our character designer, did. So I let the two of them outvote me. (Even though I still think I was right.)
Hi again Greg. Apologies....I see most of my designation questions were asked before. So let me ask a couple of new ones.
As Team members have continued to join, have they all received (and in Static's case, will receive) hand-to-hand combat training? If so, is Black Canary still in charge of the training?
Though they are not Team members, will Tye, Asami and Eduardo continue to be trained in their abilities?
Does Arsenal keep in contact with Virgil, Tye, Asami, and Eduardo? Though he was kicked out of the Team, does Arsenal keep in touch with Artemis or other members? With Roy and Ollie?
1. They have or will.
1a. She's still in charge, but much of the training is now handled by members of the Team, especially, believe it or not, Superboy.
2. SPOILER REQUEST.
3. Some.
3a. Some.
3b. Yes.
Thank you for Young Justice. It was just such an amazing, brilliantly written show. I just a question.
Were Dick and Jason close before Jason died?
Yes.
I also wanted to ask just three more questions:
1) Approximately how old is Lian?
2) Do Red Arrow and Arsenal hang out or talk to each other at all?
3) How does Jade feel about Arsenal? (Does she think he is stubborn or something like that?)
Thanks again for your time!
1. Lian was born in September of Team Year Five.
2. I'm tempted to say "Spoiler Request". But what the heck? Yes. Some, at least.
3. They're not close.
I know this is not a question but I would just like to thank you. To everyone who worked on Young Justice, from the writers, the composers to the voice actors and to you and Brandon. Thank you so much for giving me such a wonderful story to follow, and making it an experience of a lifetime.
Never before has a show captured my imagination, nor the characters seemed so real as Young Justice has. The experience of watching these characters grow, coupled with the amazing acting and art design (as well as suffering through the hiatus to see them all again) was one of the best times i have ever had watching a show. And I never felt anything was dumbed down for understanding, easy enough if you have watched the episodes leading up to the current but with an extra layer of depth for those who could read into the dialogue and scenes to find parallels drawn throughout the series, or understood some subtle hints to character's stories in the comics. I for one thought the scene where The Team came down to meet the Justice League after they had arrived back on Earth was immensely powerful because of the fact the opposite had happened in the pilot episode of both season 1 and season 2. Fantastic job.
The characters in themselves felt real, and I could see many of the social situations the teens went through happening in real life (and in some cases I have seen said situation happen.) Before I had watched this show, sure I had always loved the DC universe, and yes i had watched previous DC shows (Batman:TAS, Justice League, the list goes on)but I had never been struck by a character in a way that I said, you know what I am going to look up more about Artemis, or T.O. Morrow, or Sportsmaster. Even previous characters that I have seen done on animated shows never felt old, each character in Young Justice felt like a fresh take, one I could like.
Props on you and everyone that worked on this show. You have created a world in which my favorite super heroes live, and in doing so have become my hero. Thank you.
Thank YOU. It was a great experience, and we're glad the show reached you in those ways!

Hi Greg. I read your Endgame interview on The World's Finest website. Thanks for your designation list. A few questions related to the A designations:
1. With Static officially joining the Team in Endgame as B-26, I was curious about Tye, Asami, and Eduardo. Even though your guest list stops at A13/Jay Garrick, have they gained Authorized Guest status?
2. Does B'arzz O'oomm now have an A designation?
3. If Blue Devil is not a League member, has he received an A designation? If so is he considered A6,7,8, or 9?
1 & 2. I think it's clear from the numbers that the answer is - for the time being at least - no.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hi Greg,
First of all I really need to just say how impressed I was and still am with Young Justice. Everything about it was incredible. Cartoon Network, DC, and Warner Bros. should really consider reviving it, especially since in my opinion it was the best program on Cartoon Network and they are steadily losing many great shows.
I just have a couple of questions about the status of the Light at the end of Invasion.
The characters often refer to breaking the Light in half. I'm just wondering if you could explain what that means. We know that 2 members were captured and such, but is the Light still functioning as an organization?
When watching Endgame I got the impression that the remaining members were still working together based on both Vandal's message to Rimbor, G. Gordon nominating Lex for U.N. Secretary General, and the meeting on Apokolips at the end of the episode.
So I'm sorry for my ramble. But I guess my question is this. Is the Light still working together and functioning or did the Team suceed in completely breaking apart their alliance?
Thanks again for all you've done, I hope that eventually my favorite show will return.
The Team and the League may have overestimated the damage they did to the Light, but that doesn't mean the damage wasn't substantial. Ra's was killed - at least for the time being. Black Manta and the Brain were captured. And the Light's plans were exposed.
Hey, Greg. I would just like some clarification on something. Impulse repeatedly hinted that stopping Blue Beetle from becoming a villain wasn't the only reason for his travelling to the past. What were the other reasons? Was it just to help Neutron?
That. And saving Flash's life, and generally stopping the Reach Apocalypse.
Also, he wanted to try Chicken Whizees.
First off, thank you for making my Saturday mornings something to look forward to and meaningful to me.
Anyway,
1. In Endgame, after Wally gave his life to help Barry and Bart, the Team shows up to greet the remaining leaguers, with Aqualad standing on the front of the super cycle. Were they informed of Aqualad being a traitor before returning the Earth off screen, did Nightwing tell Batman before he left for Rimbor, or were they all surprised to see him there?
2. Did Batman want Captain Atom to be take over as the leader of the League before that title was given to Black Canary or was it decided that each leaguer could only be the leader for a set amount of years?
3. After production on Young Justice ended and the show was not renewed, were the crew members of the show moved to different projects or left out of work?
4. Was there an official reason for why Young Justice wasn't renewed for a season 3?
1. I'm sure there was all sorts of surprise to go around.
2. I'm not clear on your question, but I think it's ASKED AND ANSWERED.
3. Some of each.
4. Not a single one, no.
In Bart's timeline, did Wally die?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hi Greg,
I do have a few questions, but before I ask them, I just want to thank you and everyone who worked on the show.
The entire run of Young Justice was flat-out amazing, and had everything from humour to sad moments to great action. The story hooked me and the characters were likable but flawed, making them relatable...there are so many more things I could say about how great the show was. I have to go buy the DVDs soon, so I can always have the show and the memories it has given me.
As for the questions I had, they are:
1. When you look back on making Young Justice, is there anything you are most proud of?
2. This sounds a bit odd, but if the original members of The Team could break the fourth wall and tell their viewers one last thing; what do you think would each say after the finale? (Though I really hope the series can continue with another season, movie, comic or something...)
Thank you for your time and creating such an emotional and great series!
1. There's a TON I'm proud of. I don't know if anything specifically qualifies for "most proud".
2. I'll leave such hypotheticals to your imagination.
I see that the queue is very cluttered with fan rambles that are either pissed off about his fate or begging you to tell them that he isn't dead/will be brought back in season 3.
Personally, I will choose not to ask anything pertaining to Wally. I have faith that you, Brandon and the rest of your crew had your reasons for doing what you did and that you guys know where you're headed with this. So instead, I'll focus my efforts on trying to get to that Season 3 so we can see for ourseleves what happens next. :)
Moving on, you had given a list of the designations in your interview with World's Finest Online right before the finale and there were seven "SPOILER REQUESTS" which I figured meant that we would been seeing these characters in "Endgame."
Based on who we saw in the episode, I'd wager that as of the 20th of June, Tempest and Blue Devil were the unknown Leaguers, and Virge, Ed, Sam and Tye were the four unknown guest designations. Then by the 4th of July, Virgil gained a Team designation upon becoming Static.
Could you either confirm or correct this?
And last but certainly not least, thanks to all of you guys for writing all of these characters and stories that matter so much. I really hope that we can get not just a third season, but a fourth and a fifth, too, while we're at it.
I could confirm or correct, but I won't.
What was Zatanna's reaction to finding out it was her glamour charm that disguised Artemis and led her to believe that her best friend was dead?
I'll leave that to your imagination for now.
First off, I love Young Justice. Thanks for making such a great show!
My question is about the Light, Reach and Bart's future. It was made pretty clear in Summit and Endgame that the Light planned to betray the Reach. They seem to have planned out all contingencies and have an even bigger masterplan involving Darkseid - basically they knew what they were getting into. So what happened in Bart's future? Bart always referred to it as the "Reach Apocalypse" and the Reach/Blue Beetle were obviously in charge - it seemed as though the Light didn't intend for the Reach to actually conquer Earth in their masterplan, so what went wrong? It just seems weird to me that the big baddies who seem to have endless schemes, tricks and Xanatos gambits could have got it so wrong.
Nobody's perfect.
1: Is Kylstar and the others who stayed with him conquering other planets while YJ:I is going on?
2: Can Shimmer's power affect flesh or just materials?
3: Does Tim have living parents or does he stay at the Wayne Manor?
4: How strong is Vandal Savage? (Considering he took down Black Lightning,Captain Marvel, and Black Canary like nothing) If answered, why is he that strong and was he ever that strong in other continuities?
1. In theory.
2. Anything, I'd think.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
4. He's pretty strong. Plus he has a healing factor that in essence augments his strength, allowing him to push to the far limits of it without sustaining injury.
Lots of fans are sad that YJ is over even though we still have Legacy that has canon storyline. I am super excited for it so my questions will strictly relate to that.
1: How much input did you and your team have on the game? Heard it was more then most games get.
2: If the game sells really well will that help to continue YJ ether through a squeal game, direct-to-video movie, etc.?
3: Without giving spoilers of course, is there anything special you want to tell us about the game to hype it more?
Thank you for your time. I think it is super cool that you take your personal free time to interact with the fans like this and it really upsets me whenever I see a question from someone being rude or ungrateful.
Young Justice is my favorite TV show ever! I think you and everybody that worked to make it perfect is a genius! I could probably rant for days about everything I love about the series but I don't want to waste your time and it is better to keep this message short.
1. I can't speak for other games, but Brandon and I broke the story with them, and I edited all the dialogue. I also attended all the voice sessions.
2. Good sales are our best bet to get any further material.
3. Not at the moment.
First of all, I would like to say thank you for such a quality show! It's given me new hope for this age of television, though its cancellation has dampered that a bit. But I still have faith that it will be renewed someday, hopefully sooner than later. Anyway, here are a few questions on my mind.
1. I know you don't want me asking how long the planned time skip for season three was, but I am curious if there's any hope for a shorter time skip than before. So instead, my question is, is there any hope that the time skip this time around could be a matter of months? Or is it more your style to plan longer time skips? I felt the first time skip was natural, as I already knew the characters well (aside from maybe Rocket) and I welcomed a mostly new cast. However, I now feel that with the time constraints and more plot-based story, I'm still just getting to know these characters, and would like to keep getting to know them as they are. All the same, I trust your decision-making and would look forward to whatever you and Brandon cook up.
2. If you were to get another season, would it be like season two, a more plot-driven season, or would it return to being a character-driven story? Would a character-driven season even work, given the amount of characters now on the Team? And also, would the amount of episodes given make a difference in your decision in this matter?
3. What scene do you most regret not being able to include in/before the finale? (Un-moded Jaime reuniting with Tye/his family, Artemis reuniting with Paula, more of Red Arrow and/or Cheshire and Lian, more of the runaways, just to give a few possible examples)
Thank you for your time, and just know that I'm so honored to be a fan of your brillant show! May things go well with your future endeavors.
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. The amount of episodes ordered would indeed make a difference in what and how much we would attempt cover, among many other decisions.
3. Too many to count.
Well, since Young Justice just finished its run, I thought I might as well say a huge thank you.
I've been a fan of your work ever since I caught a WITCH episode, and unfortunately around the time Spectacular Spiderman was airing I was at that "I'm too old for cartoons" stage of life. Thank God I got over that, and with a little internet magic I was able to watch Gargoyles, Spec, and learn about Young Justice. I enjoyed the characters, plotlines, art, fight scenes, acting, basically everything (aside from few complaints here and there, but nothing too major).
Most of all, I enjoyed that it remembered it was a cartoon and not a comic. When Wally died, I was able to actually feel sad rather than groan and think "oh great, now I have to wait until he's retconned back into existence". If you get a lot of hate mail for that, don't worry. He's a popular character who recently got poorly handled in the comicverse, so people tend to be overprotective. Personally, I think him going to speedster Valhalla or the like is way more fitting than wiping out the whole of his heroic career.
So thanks to you and the entire Young Justice team for putting some serious effort into this show. It was much appreciated.
And since I feel obligated to ask a question, the finale aired on March 16th. How did you manage that?
Heh heh heh.
Wow This season was great! You and the team should be proud of you hard work it really paid off! I will dearly miss YJ it would always cheer me up when I had a bad day, I would pretend the team was there and they'd cheer me up, or they would come to school with me and help me through. I am not the only one that does this many people do, I even pretend I am on the team and we did missions together, to me the characters are real. I cried so much when reality hit me that the show is over, I cried a lot when Wally died too, but I know a lot of people asked you if he is dead and if there will be a third season so I wont ask that, instead I will thank you for this Wonderfully Amazing show, watching the team grow, listening to Dick say silly things like Aster and Whelmed, or Megan say Hello Megan, Gar say Noted or Bart say Mode and Crash etc. I know one day the show will come back because with fans like this nothing can keep us from a show like this!!! I will be waiting for the day this show comes back and I will one day show my kids this show. Thank you for taking the time to read this and create the BEST SHOW EVER!! We will keep fighting for the show to come back one day!!! The fans will never forget Young Justice!
Thank you very much!!
Dear Greg,
Well, the final episode of YJ has been aired, and what an ending! I gotta say, for a minute there, I thought you were gonna kill Barry, but Wally's death I did not see coming. Bravo, man. Bravo.
Furthermore, finally seeing Darkseid was nice. I mean, everyone knew he was the Light's original partner, & truthfully I expected him to show up a lot sooner, but that was good. Of course, Lex being a manipulative cuss was great, Static joing was cool, & I liked Tim & Cassie getting together.
It's a shame to see such a great show come to an end, but perhaps not for long. I saw your piece on the Veronica Mars kicksterter, & the thought of a kickstarter for Gargoyles or Young Justice didn't even occur to me until then. But if you start one, I will happily pledge what I can to the cause.
May they live again!
Thanks!
One of the "Endgame" preview images on The World's Finest shows a close-up of Artemis and the Flash Family at the mission briefing in Metropolis that wasn't in the episode itself. So I was wondering: are there more close-ups from that big wide shot of all the heroes? If so, could you post them? I'd love to see a close up of Aquaman, Aqualad, Tempest and Lagoon Boy from that big wide shot.
I have no means of posting anything.
Did Jim Harper find out about Mal Duncan becoming the new Guardian? If so, how did he react? Did they ever have any moments together after Cornered?
Yes. He was fine with it. Even happy about it. And, yes.
I apologize if this question has been asked before, I tried searching through the archives but maybe I didn't frame my search parameters correctly.
How public are The Team members as superheroes? I know the team isn't known by the general public, and certain sidekicks are known because they fight alongside their fellow mentors (like Batman and Robin, Flash and Kid Flash, Aquaman and Aqualad, and maybe later Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl and so on) but what about other heroes like Beast Boy? Or Bumblebee? Or even Superboy?
I ask because Superboy is wearing his Superman-symbol shirt in "Satisfaction." I understand this is a world where glasses can protect Clark Kent's identity or sunglasses protects Dick and Tim's, but come on! He's wearing his Superboy "uniform" right out in the open! Does that mean the public is unaware of Superboy?
What I'm basically wondering is, do certain Team members even need secret identities, or can they just go out in public without masks and such because they only ever go out for covert ops where the general public won't see them anyway?
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
But you saw Mal Duncan wearing a Superman t-shirt in Season One. Lots of folks wear them. Heck, Superboy originally bought all his S-Shield t-shirts at Suburban Outfitters. The fact that folks see Conner Kent wearing an S-Shield t-shirt wouldn't raise ANY suspicions at all.
Hey Greg, sorry for this. I know I'm annoying but honestly I cant even help it at this point. My grandmother just passed away, my aunt has brain cancer, and the only thing I had to look forward to was young justice and "spitfire" I am going to keep fighting for season three on behalf of all the producers and loyal fans like myself. I do have one question for you however, and yes, I'm sure you are sick of hearing it.
If(when) we get a season 3 Is there any chance that you and your team would ever consider bringing back Wally ?
Is he really dead?
Ailish, my condolences for your loss and your troubles. But I have no answer for you. I'm sorry.
Why weren't Troia, Lieutenant Marvel and Sergeant Marvel included in the big group shots of heroes in "Endgame" (when Lex Luthor was outlining the plan in Metropolis)?
ANSWERED. Check the archives.
I'm going to keep doing whatever I can to get Young Justice back, or at least finished! But for now, thank you so much for the adventure! I truly enjoyed it!
Brandon just tweeted that "Wally is gone", when he says "Wally is gone" is Wally gone/teleported to a different dimension, planet, or somewhere else? Or did Brandon mean "gone" as in deceased gone? At first I thought Wally was sucked into the Speedforce, but a while back you said the Speedforce doesn't exist on Earth-16 (so that rules that out). I still have hope Wally is still around :)
Thank You,
June
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
To Mr. Weisman
That was so not cool. You literally ripped my heart out of my body with Wally's death. I really hope that you meant Wally to come back in season 3. For one thing, the reaction to his death was extremely disappointing. Outside of Artemis, Bart, and Nightwing, we did not see a single person mourn for Wally. Not even his original team mates like Superboy and Miss Martian. Even Artemis' fake death had more mourning than Wally. The death was also extremely rushed. I would like to think that if a character as popular as Wally was being killed off, then there would be more of a reaction and more time was dedicated to it. Also, it was unbelievably tragic. Of all the romantic relationships on the show, the one between Artemis and Wally was the only one that felt authentic and sweet. Plus, the way it was set up in season 1, it felt that it was something that you set up for long term with the spitfire symbolic parallel with Kent Nelson and Insa. What's the point if you spend an entire season developing a relationship only to end it tragically in the next season without even showing much of the relationship on screen. It's even more painful when you see that all other relationships have either been repaired or newly formed while Artemis is left heartbroken. That along with the fact that Wally's parents lost their only son. Also, this was the only place where Wally existed since he is not in the comics currently. But I take encouragement in the fact there is no body and in comic/cartoon world, no body means alive.
Now that my sorrowful rant over the season finale is over, I would like to congratulate you for two seasons of great animation. After JL/JLU, this was the first cartoon of excellent standard of storytelling and animation. I really hope there is some way that season 3 can be made and you can resurrect Wally and reunite him with Artemis as well as continue the incomplete Apocalypse storyline.
Finally, if there is no chance of season 3 happening, can you divulge what you were planning for season 3. Would there be another time jump? Would Wally and Nightwing return?...
Well, I think the notion that you didn't see his other teammates mourn is patently ridiculous. You saw their reactions in the moment. Then we skipped weeks ahead, and everyone was still feeling the effect of Wally's death. The fact that we FOCUSED on the three characters closest to Wally (Artemis, Bart, Dick) doesn't imply that the others didn't care.
Otherwise, most of this is ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Greg, wow if you really are reading this I hope you know I appreciate your work. I am not familair with the Gargoyles or anything, I am a fan of Young Justice. You see, my best friend and I are hooked on to it and we rescently saw the finale. We are broken. Yes you know it's because of Wally. No I am not asking for spoilers or for you to change the story line. I just want a yes or no answer if you could or at least put my mind at rest. Wally didn't die did he, not really. He simply disappeared and I don't think he died. If he did die then I'll accept it with understanding. But at the end of the episode it was implied more. And I think Wally will come back. I really do think so. I know cartoon network won't take another season but I know what's it like to have a story line of your own, I am an aspiring author. I know you won't leave this like that, so full of what nots but greg if you do plan to continue it or of you dont I beg of you that you come clear to us someday because what kills me the most is not knowing. Maybe you'll never confirm it or never read this and I'll go on thinking about this without being certain. Did he die? I don't care if you say yes or no, just a hint at what's going on. I probably seem a little needy but in some ways I am, the chacracters you created have such a hold on my heart its amazing. I bow my hat to you greg you've made an amaing thing here and I hope you might forgive me prying. Thank you for your work.
I don't know why people keep thinking I won't even READ their comments. Unless they've broken major rules, I read everything (eventually).
And thank you for your kind words.
But, I'm sorry I won't give you a hint for reasons I've already laid out. If you haven't read why already, please check the archives.
Oh dear, so many people impulsively asking why wally had to die and future spoilers, you are in for hell (or maybe your moderators and lots and lots of copy paste.
Anyways, now that its confirmed the light has also played with Darksied..
1. Was he(and Apocalypse) the partner referred to back in Bereft? Since we now know the reach were not drawn to earth until after the season finally.
2. The Reach themselves call black beetle...black beetle. Is this the official way to designate each scarab? Did they adopt the name from Wonder Girl?
3. Why hadn't you addressed the reach Apocalypse still being a success after Bart left?
1. Yes.
2. Think of it as a translation.
3. I'm not clear on what you're asking here. But if what you're implying is that after Nate's clothes changed in the future, why had the Reach apocalypse still taken place, the answer is - it hadn't. Nate assumed it had because Mount Justice was still in ruins. But you know why Mount Justice is in ruins. It's a subtle thing, but the ash rain that was falling before Bart left, has stopped after.
Hey Greg,
Sorry it's me again so quickly...I just remembered two things I wanted to bring up.
1. I've heard that Dubbilex was/is a DNAlien. Not exactly sure what that means since from what I've looked at your work you've said he is a G-Gobin/genomorph and was created by Cadmus. I just wanted to see if you could set it straight for me, what exactly is he? Also, I apologize if this is a spoiler, if you will have answered this by the time you get to my post, or it just pops up...but why did you not include him and the genomorphs in the second season? What happened to them? We saw some of them lying on the ground at the end of Season 1, and Guardian/Jim Harper is around, but nothing else. I know you don't like to give full out stories here but could you please say something regarding this, because I have seen nothing about them. I was expecting them to maybe come out, help the Team and League and maybe get the respect they were hoping for, but I don't know...
2. By now it will have been a while, but remember when I asked if you'd let Khary Payton/Aqualad say "BOOYAH!" for old time's sake and you said it was a spoiler. Well, now the season is over (again I hope the show comes back soon) and we didn't here it. I wanted to let you know though that I had another side trip or dream and I thought I actually saw Aqualad in the show say "BOOYAH!" It wasn't like in Teen Titans, but it was like he just beat up one of the bad guys (I don't know who) and he looked down on them like he looked down on Black Manta in "Summit" and said "Booyah" in that cool tone like he when he talked to his unconscious father. Then I snapped back to our reality and I was like, "Did it happen? I thought Greg wasn't going to do it, but he did! YES! BOOYAH!" And of course, then I saw it wasn't true and was :(
Oh well...Did you consider doing it at anytime in the production? If yes or no why did you not do it?
Thanks Greg.
1. In our series, he's a genomorph.
1a. There's a lot of things we'd have loved to include in Season Two had there been more time.
2. No. It doesn't fit Aqualad's character. I'm all for fan-service, but it has to make sense.
Hello Greg,
I hope this finds you well...I wanted to thank and congratulate you and your team on the amazing show of Young Justice.
I know that by the time you read my post you will have already read dozens of posts of people commenting on the season finale. I know you will probably have seen "Why did you kill Wally?" so many times you'll probably be Copy and Pasting "ASKED AND ANSWERED" or "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT" so many times that you'll get tired and/or bored. Well I am just here to say that while I, "A Flash Fan" who have written to you a lot about the Flashes, am dismayed and was sad about Wally's "ceasing," I wanted to thank you for giving him a noble "death." The courage and bravery all heroes displayed, but the Flashes were the ones who were ready to give the ultimate sacrifice. Barry and Bart's reactions were touching and the despair and trauma felt by the other characters definitely pulled my strings.
You definitely crafted an excellent story and series that let so many, including me, connect with these characters. I definitely saw a lot of love for Wally and everyone else as I scrolled down the queue of answered questions. I truly hope we will have a season 3...and why not 4, 5, 6, 7, 8...well as many as can be in actuality possible.
Well...thank you Greg. Even though the show is over (for now, I hope it will return soon) it will always hold a special place in my heart. I think about the first time I saw the World Premier in November 2010...Here we are nearly 2.5 years later and it was truly an incredible experience to remember. I hope to come back now and again, be patient, and follow just where you'll take us next. Thank you.
All the best,
A Flash Fan
Thank you. Very Much.
Thanks for the amazing show, Greg! You and your team are awesome!
- Why didn't Jay Garrick show up in the end to help Barry and Bart?
Let's imagine that even the kinetic energy from Jay, Barry and Bart wasn't enough, so Wally would have to help anyway. So, for only Wally to get hit by the beams, Wally would have to be slower than Jay too, and the audience would be like "Come on, even the 90-year-old guy can dodge the beams, and Wally can't?" (I personally wouldn't have a problem with Jay being faster, because he is my favorite Flash) That's the sole reason why you didn't include Jay in that scene? I personally think you should have done it anyway, if only for the sake of reuniting the Flash Family one last time. But it's your show, so it's your decision.
Wally's faster than Jay. By a little, at least.
But Jay didn't get there because there wasn't time. Wally was in the Watchtower, so his journey was Zeta-Tube to nearest Zeta-Tube and then a sprint to the Magnetic North Pole.
Jay's journey - assuming he thought to attempt it (and I'm not sure he even knew what was going on) - would have been a sprint from wherever he was deployed to the nearest Zeta-Tube, a Zeta-Tube ride to the nearest Zeta-Tube to Magnetic North and then another sprint. It was all probably over by then.
Hello! I've been a big fan of Young Justice for awhile now. I love how well you manage to tie a bunch of aspects from the comics together in a way that makes sense; not only in this show, but in Spectacular Spider-Man as well! I was personally very happy to see Tim and Cassie get together in the end. I was a big fan of them together in the comics and it was nice to see them get together on one of my favorite shows. I'm still hoping for a Season 3!
How did Batman and Wonder Woman react to the news of Tim and Cassie dating?
I'll leave that to your imagination for now.
Greg-
I loved the show; thanks to all of you for doing a great job- I'm going to miss it(and GL)allot.
1. Do you have any irons in the fire for any more older-audience DC superhero animated shows, like GL and/or YJ?
2.How do you deal with the fan-crazy and headcanonry without popping a blood vessel in your brain? I admire your tolerance, sir!
To the next project(raises glass)!
1. Not me. (Though I did write one episode of Beware the Batman.) Not that I wouldn't love to, but it's not my sandbox and no one at DC or WB seems too interested in having me work on these characters right now.
2. I do pop the occasional vessel, but mostly it's rewarding and worth the time.
Dear Greg,
I held off on posting this until I was feeling a little more rational post-Endgame. Didn't want to risk posting some kind of knee-jerk reaction and coming across as a crazy person ;o)
You've said that Young Justice was all about secrets and lies and about young heroes growing up. Well, to me Young Justice was about friendship and family. Season 1 especially was amazing in that respect, because there were only six team members to focus on and that left enough room for character development. You really made us care about these characters and I loved watching them grow from a rather disorganized, squabbling group of sidekicks to a well-oiled machine that could be considered a family.
The time skip in season 2 was a shock to me (and boy, did I lament the loss of my perfect season 1 team!), but I stuck with it in hopes of Wally eventually returning to the team and of getting some nice Dick/Wally friendship moments, as their friendship has always been my primary reason for watching the show. It's why I bought all the companion comics and am still planning on buying Legacy when it comes out; anything to get another glimpse of the Dick/Wally friendship. I was extremely happy with Summit because Wally was back! And he was fighting alongside Dick! Oh, how I'd missed seeing that! Seriously, I would've been perfectly happy if the season had ended there.
But then Endgame happened. And I was just so terribly shocked and disappointed with the events of that episode. To me it felt rushed, but I know you did the best you could wrapping up such an epic story in only a few episodes. Also, why were there 21 of those Reach thingies if just one would've apparently been enough to destroy the world? But what got to me most of all was, of course, Wally's death. It was so shocking that it's…kind of ruined the entire show for me :o(
I understand that you can't make everyone happy (though I'm convinced everyone would've been happy if you hadn't killed off Wally) and you and Brandon probably felt you had good reasons for ending Wally, but with one of my favorite characters presumed dead and the other taking a leave of absence (which I'm taking to mean that we would have scarcely seen him in future episodes), my reasons for watching Young Justice are gone. I'm loyal to the characters of a show, not to the show itself; taking away my favorite characters means losing me as a viewer.
I hope I'm not coming across as someone going, "Bring back Wally in season 3 or I'll stop watching!", because that's not what I'm trying to say at all. It's your show, you've built this world and these amazing characters and you're free to do with them as you see fit (well, for the most part) and I'm sure a lot of people would still enjoy the continuing adventures of the Team if there ever is a season 3. But with the characters I was most invested in gone, the show's just not for me anymore.
It's okay though, I know it's "just" a cartoon (even if it was one I was incredibly invested in) and I'll no doubt find something else that'll catch my interest; I'm just sad that Wally's death left such a bad taste in my mouth that it's kind of tainted the entire series for me.
Anyway, regardless of whether or not you'd planned on bringing Wally back (did you?), I'm just going to stubbornly believe that he's still alive and that Dick's going to use his leave of absence to find him and figure out how to get him back. Yep, that'll be my head canon.
Best of luck with future endeavors! I hope you'll get another chance to play in the DC sandbox :o)
Well, I would hope Wally's death wouldn't leave a "bad" taste in your mouth. Not that I expect you to be happy about it, but I hope you felt that Wally went out heroically and nobly.
In an earlier Ask Greg post, you mentioned you had no plans of letting the friendship between Dick Grayson and Wally West die. How can the friendship survive if one of them is dead?
How can it ever end if one of them is dead?
With the (very sad) ending of Young Justice, I'd like to give some (hopefully constructive!) criticism.
I dropped out of the show in the beginning ("Beneath" was the last episode I watched) of season two for various reasons, the first being the way Megan and Raquel were handled in the show.
Megan's plotline this season would have been much better if you hadn't shown it through flashbacks. This is one of the reasons I so disliked the time skip. I don't want to be told things happened (via flashback, in my opinion, still counts). I would have preferred it if we were shown her change over the course of a season, and THEN this plotline happened.
Also, Raquel. We had her introduced in the finale of the last season, and I was looking forward to seeing her integrate with the team...cut to her with the League. What? I wanted to see her working in and with the Team, making friendships! Even Billy got more focus than her, and that bugged me.
The time skip is also something that I don't think worked. I would have preferred seeing the characters make these choices, rather than finding out after the fact. The main six stopped feeling like the people I originally tuned in to watch, and I didn't like that feeling.
On a final note, the reason "Beneath" finally had me turning off the show is that I never felt like our heroes ACTUALLY WON. They'd have minor victories, sure, but they'd always have been *distracted* or *on the wrong track* for the Light's *real* plot- it drove me nuts.
Now, this is your show! And you can totally roll your eyes at me for missing the point, especially since I didn't see the season through (also, I did hear that a bunch of really nifty things happened throughout the season, so, y'know, joke's on me). But this is just meant to be used for future reference or, hopeffully, if the fan petitions actually go through and CN greenlights a third season.
I don't know what flashbacks you're referring to. In fact, I can't think of one. (Am I spacing here?)
And, of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't suppose it will surprise you to read that I disagree.
I like Raquel too, and I wish we had had more screen time for her. But she was never a lead, and we never promised she'd be one. And I think we respected her journey by having her join the League.
The time skip was never going to thrill everyone, I know. But it was important thematically to the kind of story that we were telling. And I think the fan response overall - once the first few episodes played out, pretty much justifies our decision - assuming we needed justification.
As to the notion that they never "WON". Well, I'll say they won as often in Season Two as they did in Season One. And they certainly "won" in the end. At a great cost and with loose ends, but there's no way that doesn't count as a win.
A little patience might have helped, but if you're just not enjoying the show, then I understand why you stopped watching.
So, I appreciate the constructive criticism, honestly. Particularly, the respectful way that you presented it. But, it wouldn't change our plans any. We have to tell the stories that fire our imaginations and work with what we want to accomplish.
Hi, Greg.
I was just wondering if Dick and Zatanna were still dating/gotten back together up until the conclusion of Young Justice:Invasion or had he moved onto Barbara? Also which couple did you prefer? Dick and Zatanna or Dick and Barbara?
I'd take a look at our companion comic books for an answer to this question.
And "prefer" isn't a word that applies.
Greg, I notice on your roster that Donna Troy (Troia) was part of the team at one point. Is there any particular reason she wasn't in this season storywise (you don't have to explain) or was there a production reason? And if you can get into it, can you give any details about her membership?
This is mostly ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Let me start by saying that the Young Justice season finale just about broke my heart. Don't get me wrong, that's just a testament to how wonderful the storytelling is for this entire series. Doesn't stop the pain, but at least it came from something good.
Anyway my question could be said to apply to all your awesome work.
Have you ever heard of a site called T.V Tropes and Idioms, and have you ever cheeked out your shows entries on it?
I have, yes.
Is there anything us fans can do to help Young Justice come back for another season?
Vote with your wallet. Buy the DVDs. Buy the soundtrack. Buy the comic book trade paperbacks. And most important of all, buy YOUNG JUSTICE LEGACY.
Hello there, first off: congrats on Young Justice! A splendid finale for a splendid show! I'll be very interested in seeing what YJ: Legacy offers in terms of the missing narrative between season one and two.
Now on to the question! Out of curiosity, is there any new on that project you and Vic Cook were lanning called Progeny? It sounded like an interesting story, and Galloway's designs certainly helped the interest. Just a slight bit of curiosity on if there's any development on that.
Have a nice day!
Nothing I can report right now, but I haven't given up on Progeny either.
Dear Greg,
I have just finished watching the season 2 final for young justice and in my opinion it was truly bittersweet. I want to congratulate you on creating such an amazing show. I was honestly in love with the characters, their personalities, thoughts, feelings, and dialog were so realistic. I am a fan of DC comics and love all those heroes and enjoyed seeing them all on young justice :) I think that "endgame" was a great way to end the season but i was left heartbroken when i had to watch my all time favorite hero, Kid Flash, do something impulsive and selfless for the last time. To say i'm not upset would be lying so i wont say that but my heart honestly broke when Wally told Barry to make sure he tells Artemis and his parents that he loved them. :,( i wish i didn't get so attached to fictional characters because their fate is always in the hands of their creators, which makes them fair game and anything/everything could happen. I know there is a chance you probably wont read this but i just wanted to take this chance and ask you, is there hope for Young Justice and Wally West or will i have to just re-watch episode and just have Wally remain in my memories? I also wanted to let you know that the scene between Kid and Impulse was just.. no words can describe it. Wally and Bart's relationship is just precious and in that scene i saw an older brother passing down his legacy to his younger brother and that just made Wally's tragic fate all the more difficult to accept.
but no matter what my feelings are toward's Wally, i still want to THANK YOU for an amazing superhero show that this closet geek went crazy for ;P
Thanks for the kind words.
There's always hope for the series. Right now most of those hopes revolve around Legacy.
1. How old were Tye and Jaime when they met and where were they?
2. Why did they initially become friends?
3. Did they reconcile eventually after the fall of the Reach and did Tye go back home to El Paso?
4. Do Jaime's friends Paco and Brenda from the comics exist in this universe and are they friends with Tye too?
5. Where did Asami go to live after the fall of the Reach?
1. SPOILER REQUEST.
2. Why does anyone?
3. There wasn't much reconciling to do once Tye found out that Jaime had been - in essence - possessed.
3a. SPOILER REQUEST. But I've already revealed this, so, yes, Tye and Asami went back to live with Shelly Longshadow in El Paso.
4. SPOILER REQUEST. But, yes.
5. See answer number 3.
I know your probably sick of all the Wally questions but..
Was it hard for you to kill off Wally? And when making/recording the episode did any of the cast end up crying? Cuz I know the fandom did plenty of that...
It wasn't an easy decision. And we all got quite emotional about it.
RAIN OF THE GHOSTS BOOK TWO: SPIRITS OF ASH AND FOAM Countdown, Chapter Forty-Five:
And here's another of my shameless attempts to maintain buzz about my new novel, RAIN OF THE GHOSTS, due out in stores and on-line on December 3rd, 2013 (but available for pre-order NOW on Amazon, etc.):
http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Ghosts-Greg-Weisman/dp/1250029791
There's not too much to report about the first book right now - but at the above website, you can see the new gorgeous revised coloring of the first book's cover.
And in the meantime, I'm counting down my progress writing the SECOND BOOK in the RAIN OF THE GHOST series, SPIRITS OF ASH AND FOAM, which is due out on May 13th, 2014 and can also be pre-ordered:
I just finished Chapter Forty-Five. This one combined what I had originally planned as two chapters (45 & 46 - or if you've been keeping count since last March, 41 & 42). And I will NOT be starting on Chapter Forty-Six tomorrow, because there is no Chapter 46. Forty-Five is now officially the last chapter. My first pass is done. And THAT. Is a VERY. GOOD. FEELING. Believe me.
Of course, I'm not done-done. I still have to write the acknowledgments, and then I need to go through the entire book, rereading and rewriting from top to bottom. I've been constantly revising and rewriting as I go, but I'll need to do a lot more of that, and I'll need to proofread very carefully too. But now I know I'll make my drop-dead date, and that's a huge relief.
I'll start on the acknowledgments tomorrow! But now that YOU know the book is essentially finished, there's nothing to hold you back from pre-ordering a copy! Right? RIGHT!
Hi Greg,
After finally watching the season 2 finale, I must congratulate you and thank you. Thank you so much. At the end of an emotionally draining week I could always look forward to Young Justice. It's absolutely heart-breaking to know that the show that has kept me going for so long has ended. And what a note it ended on.
Wally was always my favourite character. Every episode in season 2 I hoped that Wally would re appear. And you should have seen my face when he did. So I must thank you for adding him as he has become one of my greatest inspirations. Thank you, Greg, for all the amazing characters you have brought to life. Thank you for the amazing story-telling and the incredible times in Young Justice.
I must say, you know how to make a 13 year old fangirl break down into tears for about two hours. Hands down to you and the crew for that feat.
Greg, I know the answer will probably be met with a SPOILER REQUEST, NO COMMENT or whatever you decide to write down, but I must ask. I hope that my questions will be answered.
1. Was Wally actually ever in Bart Allen's timeline? I mean, was he alive?
2. Do you think that Artemis would move out of Palo Alto? And what about her college life?
3. This is hard for me, but what exactly happened to Wally? Was it a proper death?... I mean, he just sort of... dissolved.
I'm very sorry if I breach the question thingie of SPOILER REQUEST, NO COMMENT. I know you are probably aware, but many fans are working hard to try and bring back the show. It's a big part of our lives and I know I'm not ready to let it go. Not yet. Especially not on this note.
Kudos to you, the crew and everyone who has worked so hard on this show. Major kudos for the voice actors who have voiced so well. I don't believe you get as much love as you deserve, so here I am, saying thank you. Thank you Mr Weisman. You and your show got me through some tough times. (Yikes, that sounded more corny than some of Wally's pick up lines.)
1. If you mean had he existed, than yes. If you're asking whether or not he was still alive by the time Bart was born, then that's a SPOILER REQUEST.
2. SPOILER REQUEST.
3. SPOILER REQUEST.
Thank you. I'll take corny anytime.
Hey, Greg! A while ago, I think it was Brandon Vietti who said not all the characters on the YJ:I poster was used- looking at it, I can only presume it's the girl standing next to Tim. Because the series is over, is it okay for you to reveal who it would be?
What poster are we talking about?
Some questions about the designations you revealed during the Worldsfinest's interview...
1)There were two designations of the JL whice were labeled as SPOILER REQUEST: did the two unknown Leaguers appear anywhere (a yes or a no will be sufficient, I'm not asking their names)?
2)This is more of a formality: is Static B26?
3)The designations B14 and B15 were given to Liutenant Marvel and Sergeant Marvel, which I guess were the Mary Bromfield and the Freddy Freeman of Earth-16. But none of the two has had (for what I recall) those names in the comics, so: which one of the two is Sergeant and which one is Liutenant?
1. SPOILER REQUEST.
2. Yes.
3. Freddy is Lieutenant. Mary is Sergeant. (That's a spoiler, of course. But I feel like I've already revealed it. If I haven't, well... BONUS FOR YOU!)
1) How long is the tenure of leadership in the Justice League? A year or it's up to the current leader to see how long he wants to be leader?
2) You mentioned before that leaders of the league were elected. We saw Captain Atom pass on leadership to the next designation in the JL roster which was Black Canary. Did the format of selecting leaders change?
1. It's a year, unless the Leader wants to step down for some reason.
2. No. Black Canary was elected (off-screen) to replace him.
NOT A QUESTION, BUT A GREAT THANK U TOO ALL FOR THE FANTASTIC JOB ON THE ENTIRE RUN ON THE YOUNG JUSTICE RUN SO FAR, U GUYS R THE GREATEST AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT FUTURE CHAPTERS OF THIS ANIMATED SERIES, UNTIL THEN ENJOY UR BREAK, U ALL DESERVE IT.
THANK YOU! (Why are we shouting?) ;)
Hi Mr Greg,
I know this is a wired question but I'm so curious. You voice cast Lucas Carr in Young Justice. Do you get pay for this character or you cast it for free? Is this only your interest or consider of saving cost?
I was paid. It's a SAG (i.e. a union) show. No one works for free.
Have you heard that Karl Urban is starring in a JJ Abrams TV show called "Human"?
No.
are Red Arrow, Cheshire and Lian living together as a family or are they still separated?
They're trying it out.
You Briliant Man!!! The ending of Season 2 was just brilliant!!!! It was so gut wretching I never cried in a cartoon until today well yesterday. I have been so caught up with these characters lives and I love how you put realism into it and not just some random quirky episode that doesn't deal with the heavy hitters of being a superhero. I always figured they would feel I guess how you would say "haunted and alone". I have fell in love with this series and today's episode just takes the cake. I mean Wally was my favorite character and it was done with such justice I can't even be mad that you guys killed him!! I really hope you guys get a season 3 I mean I know its not renewed for the 2013/2014 episode, but there is always hope right!!! GLTAS and Young Justice have by far been my favorite DC shows to have aired. Please keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to your novel series in the future!!!! Sorry for my ranting but I just love your work!!! I hate that Wally is gone, but I really like the series, and I feel like I'm missing out on so much since you and Brandon have tons of stories to tell!! So maybe one day we will get more :)
I hope so. Thanks for the support!
First I just want to say that Young Justice was a great series, and I - along with many fans - will miss it dearly. I have a few quick questions about Blue Beetle that were never touched upon in the series.
1. Does Blue Beetle live with his parents? They were (almost awkwardly) absent.
2. Did his parents - or anyone else he knew - recognize him when he revealed his face to the media while under Reach control?
1. Yes. We didn't have the screentime to show them, but he did mention them.
2. His parents know his secret i.d. already, so, of course. The rest is a SPOILER REQUEST.
You have said before that humans and gargoyles are incapable of reproducing together, which I must add is a nice touch. Many xeno-based series throw biology to the wind.
But despite the fact that they couldn't be fertile, do you think that Goliath and Elisa ever got together, just for the heck of it?
If you're asking if they are or will ever be intimate, I think either (a) I'll leave that to your imagination or (b) SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
I have two questions about Rocket.
1) who is she marrying?
2)did she take time off from the team when she had Amistad, if so how long?
thank you for everything, this was my absolute favorite show and I am sorry to see it go so soon!
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. Technically, this is a Spoiler Request, too. Or at least, you're asking a question based on a non-established premise. But... yes.
2a. I haven't broken it down with that much specificity.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
With Season Two finally at an end, I wanted to ask a question. When Impulse went back in time from the year 2056, everything gradually started changing from the moment he arrived in 2016. Even though we know at least a few things about what happened, can please tell us how events occured in the unaltered timeline that led to 2056? I realize that you don't like to explain stories, but can you tell us the list of the events in condensed, bullet-point form? This particular topic was something that's bugging me for some time, so I'm interested to know the Reach Apocalypse was successful in the original timeline.
Thanks,
CGYJ
I'm not doing this. Sorry.
Wally West is my all-time favorite DC character. I just want you to know that you having him on your show meant a great deal to me <3 I don't think a question about him has been worded or asked this way so I will.
Was it your plan to kill Wally from the beginning? Or at what point was the decision to kill him made?
(My personal head-canon in order to cope with this is that he isn't actually dead, he's in the Speedforce. No body = no proof of death in my mind.)
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
I don't get when Impulse said Green Beetle wasn't in the history books. Was it cause he changed history when he cured Neutron?
Lots of possible reasons:
1. History changed.
2. Historians didn't know about Green Beetle.
3. History was imcomplete or lost.
Etc.
When Artemis Crock travels by zeta now, does the Computer recognize her as Artemis or Tigress?
When Bart Allen travels by zeta now, does the Computer recognize him as Impulse or Kid Flash?
Starting with the tag of Engame, "Tigress".
Starting with the tag of Endgame, "Kid Flash".
Hey Greg,
So, in a recent interview with World's Finest, you gave the Justice League two extra designations (#27 and #28). Were they Blue Devil and Adam Strange?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hi Greg :)
My name is Bianca Ruhland and currently i have just started my final year getting my double major in Creative Writing and Animation. It's a big wish of mine to one day go on to write for or create a cartoon series of my own (especially of the superhero variety, haha.)
After the series final of Young Justice i just want to say, well done. It's shows like Young Justice i want to show to my own kids one day. It inspires me and i want to work with shows like it one day.
Visually, it's stunning, story wise it's even better. You've managed to find a way to introduce characters to keep existing comic book fans happy, but write it in such a way it introduces new fans as well. That's a very hard to do (from what i've heard). Not to mention, your show is built in such a way that it doesn't patronize children's intelligence. You have connecting story lines about big issues. You show them the power of love and friendship, but also show the realistic side that sometimes, friends fight and relationships end. People grow up on the outside, but not always on the inside. Also, the fact you broke the 'Rule of 3' and had such a large female cast was so awesome!
I'm writing to you as one of many voices of support for this show. It breaks my heart to see it go, especially in favor of other new shows that...well, that just kind of look like the same old stuff personally. It's really upsetting. After watching the final episode, there are so many cliff hangers! And Wally! Also, i've heard rumours that there were plans to bring in Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, Jason Todd and Damian Wayne into the next season. That would have just blown my mind.
I was wondering, Greg, exactly where the show stands right now. Is there a possibility at a Season 3 if Beware the Batman and Teen Titans Go don't fare too well? Can we get it outside of DC Nation or on another channel? Do you have plans for a Kickstarter (ala Veronica Mars?)Is there anything at all being done that you can mention? Like plans for a mini-series or an online follow up comic? (ala Smallville?)
If you can't tell me anything that's fine, but i just wanted to let you know Greg that you did a really great job on this show. You and Bruce Timm are my idols and i hope to be like you one day. If it's possible, please don't give up on the show just yet, not because I and other fans want it, but because i honestly feel that children everywhere NEED it, for what it is and what it teaches.
Thank you for your time.
Okay, first of all, thank you so much for all the kind words. It's much appreciated.
In that spirit, and since you have stated a sincere interest in being a professional writer, I'd like to offer some advice, which I hope you'll take in the spirit in which it is given: you need to do a better job proofreading, especially when you're expressing your desire to be a pro to a pro. When I look at a potential writer, once I get to the second or third typo, I've generally written that person off. I know this wasn't a formal communication, but you took the time to give me your full name and to list your goals. You never know, and you don't want to poison the water by not ALWAYS putting your best foot forward.
As for the episode, I'm going to state again that there were no cliffhangers in it. Loose ends, yes. Cliffhangers, no.
As for the series' future, there isn't much to tell, but I'll try to answer your questions.
Our pick-up has absolutely NOTHING to do with the success or failure of either Beware the Batman or Teen Titans Go!
I don't know about the health of DC Nation, as I'm no longer at Warner Bros. But it is extremely unlikely that we'd ever get YJ on any channel other than Cartoon Network. Keep in mind that CN, Warner Brothers and DC Comics are all part of the same company, Time-Warner.
I have no plans for a Kickstarter and such plans are beyond my ability without the interest and cooperation of the folks who own YJ, i.e. Time-Warner. I've asked about this option and gotten no encouragement.
There are no current plans for more episodes, spin-offs, mini-series or movies, despite Brandon and I pitching multiple options for all of the above. I have asked DC Comics if they're interested in publishing more YJ or Earth-16 comics, and they have declined.
What there is, is YOUNG JUSTICE LEGACY, a video-game coming out next month with original cannon content, telling an important story from the five-year gap between Season One of Young Justice and Season Two. If this sells well - really well - then it represents our best chance of telling additional stories down the line. There's also the soundtrack album, the various DVDs and Trade Paperbacks collecting the comics. Again, the best way to get more YJ is to vote with your wallet or purse!!
And I'll NEVER give up on the show. It's important to insert reality into any conversation about bringing it back, but that doesn't mean I don't still have hope.
Mr. Weisman, do you feel any remorse whatsoever about destroying your fans' hearts and cause floods of tears from the audience with your works, with one example being the episode Endgame from Young Justice?
Are there more examples?
And, no. No remorse at all. I am remorse-free.
I am so distraught about the season finale (never series!) is there just, honestly, anything you can console hard core wally west/spitfire fans with? Because its been a FEW hours now and I'm not exaggerating when I say I am still upset about it.
Well, now it's been a few months...
But, no, I have nothing consoling to add...
How do you feel about the fans putting up petitions and, in a way, bombarding CN fb page and DC Nation fb page about bringing back Young Justice for another season? I mean i love young justice and would love another season, but i'm just wondering from your perspective
I think as long as they're being polite and respectful, the fans have every right to make their opinions known to TPTB. (The fact that I share that desire may influence my opinion.)
I've had this question since shortly after "Beneath" aired, but decided to wait for the last episode to air to see if it was ever addressed in the show.
In "Beneath", Nightwing shows a map of Bialya, which is the shapes of Bialya and Qurac combined. It also has a different flag from the one in "Image". This lead us on the wiki to conclude Qurac was swallowed up, but you corrected us on the wiki, saying the holoscreen was a mistake. We never pressed the issue any further, but it made me wonder.
For such an error to be made, there had to have been artwork, of the combined map and flag. Since no such artwork was ever used again on the show and Qurac and Bialya were never explicitly stated to have been merged, I must ask... why did that particular design exist? Was it a doodle, or an abandoned concept, or did whoever put it in there draw it himself?
I honestly have no idea. Seriously, it's a mystery to me. Someone must have gone to the trouble to make that, but I can't imagine who, and I'm certain that neither myself nor Brandon would have ASKED for that. There was definitely nothing in the script.
I can only assume - as with the Red Tornado history in Season One - that someone thought they were being helpful when they very much were not.
Of course, neither Brandon nor I noticed the error until you guys pointed it out on the Wiki, and ultimately we're in charge and must take the blame. In hindsight, maybe I should have pretended it wasn't an error and run with it. But I didn't.
I for one am extremely sceptical that Wally was ever intended to stay dead. As a writer, I can appreciate that having Wally and Artemis together is dramatically dull, but now you've created cliffhangers that may never be resolved.
So, my question is: did your decision to kill Wally have anything to do with the fact that Wally is no longer the Flash in the comics?
No.
And just to be clear: we created NO cliffhangers at all. While I'll eagerly grant that we left threads unresolved, anyone who says we ended on a cliffhanger does not understand the meaning of the word "cliffhanger".

I just finished Chapter Forty-Four. Actually I finished writing it a few nights ago, but I've been working with Demona Taina on the translation of a passage into Spanish. Really wanted to make sure I got the Spanish right... and Taina has been just great working with me on it.
I'll start on Chapter Forty-Five tonight. I'm definitely in the home stretch now!
